Weird hitboxes? Oh no! Not in Dead by Daylight!
-
Yeah well, that's just like, your opinion, man.
-
I can already picture it: Stun the killer with a pallet, emote after, run to the next pallet. Profit. Yes yes a very healthy addition to a game infamous for its toxic community. OP you need to go back to Fortnite.

The amount of time it would take for the killer to be able to place their hexes would probably allow a full gen to be done, so that's just not feasible at this time.
I can't definitely get behind a time limit on being able to cleanse a hex though. Because honestly that would be an easier fix for the devs than somehow fixing the totem spawns.
The amount of times I've spawned in with a hex in sight is shocking.
Yeah, same. There's been so many times I spawn right next to a hex, or as killer my totem gets cleansed in the first 30 seconds. And since the devs refuse to tweak totem/survivor spawn locations, blocking hexes is a good compromise.

Weaker killers?
Nurse? Spirit? Hag?
Also the other 3, the artist, the nemesi and the wraith are not weak, they are average!
I never said any of those were weak killers, just Wraith.

Egc is totally killer sided, so 99% gates is perfectly fine
Huh? How is it killer sided?

While I do agree that Boons need to be adjusted, I think CoH is the main issue here. Destroying totes for killers creates too many issues with other perks and game mechanics. It's not realistic to think they'll do that.
What they realistically could do is make it similar to waking someone up from the dream state where it takes a little bit longer every time to bless the same totem, but if you take the time to rotate to a different area and find/bless a different dull then it goes back to 14 seconds.

I don't have much of an opinion about whether or not Wraith is hurt too much by flashlights. It's possible I suppose that Wraith could use a slight buff, and maybe reducing or eliminating his stun from flashlights could help? You wouldn't need to touch any of the other similar uses for flashlights on other killers, though, just tone down the one on Wraith a bit. They could even make it that flashlighting a cloaked Wraith brings him out of cloak but only stuns him 1/2 a second or so, long enough to make up the time it took to use the flashlight but not so long that he completely loses any chance at a chase. (The current lightburn stun is 4 seconds for reference.)
Yeah more or less that's what I'm talking about. I can get behind this idea. 4 Seconds of stun is just too excessive of a punishment. That's like getting hit with DS every single time and we all know how much just 1 DS at the right time can affect a match.
-
@dugman said:
Just for reference, flashlights burn other killers besides the Wraith
- Hag’s traps can be burned off
- Artist’s crows can be burned
- Spirit’s Husk can be destroyed
- Nemesis’ zombies can be stunned for 15 seconds (Zombies hate this one survivor trick!)
- Nurse can be burned out of a blink (the timing is tricky but it’s possible)
I suspect they do this because they want flashlights to have some other use besides just attempting to blind a killer saving someone or blinding for points at a pallet. If that was all flashlights did they’re probably be too weak. (They’re kind of weak now in fact seems to be a consensus among a lot of killers.)
My question is, why do flashlights have to be strong at the expense of a weak killer? All the things you mention don't directly affect the killer itself. He's the only one where you can use a flashlight to incapacitate him until you run out of juice. And all of those provide a counter to one aspect of their power. If I told you I can stop any other killer from moving for 3 seconds just by shining a flashlight on them everyone would be up in arms but somehow that's just ok because oh it's just Wraith who cares. Not to mention half of his addons require him to be cloaked to work. So if you wanna compare it to other killers at least you gotta look at all aspects. His kit is weak enough as it is lightburn is a mechanic from an old era of DbD.

So I play this game a lot. In fact I've played it almost exclusively for a couple of years now. I would say 90% of all the hackers I've encountered have been within the last 4 months or so. It almost feels like knowing nothing meaningful has been done about it so far emboldens people to try cheating, cause they know they're not gonna get caught, and if they do they just get an alt account and keep going. It's pretty pathetic being so bad at the game that you have to give yourself advantages like that.

I'm pretty sure this is what the topic is about, the random snags on invisible collision when too close to certain walls/corners in loops. Stops all movement momentum dead in its tracks so it costs a LOT of distance.
Yes that's correct. I've noticed it happening a lot more often as of lately, especially in the new map and it is very punishing when it happens.

You're not completely helpless against someone with a flashlight lmao. Having to dodge the beam while uncloaking adds depth to chases with survivor who find/bring one.
A good wraith can handle all of those, including flash bangs. This is an actual case of git gud
My guy I am perfectly aware of being able to dodge a beam. I'd love to look you up in the leaderboards to see how incredibly experienced you are with Wraith. Well I'm pretty confident that I know what I'm doing. When you play against actual good, high mmr teams or good comp teams come back and tell me lightburn is a good and fair mechanic. It accomplishes nothing other than giving one killer an unfair disadvantage. Just because you can dodge it it doesn't automatically make it a healthy mechanic.
Fun fact, did you know you could juke the Spirit before they nerfed her? That doesn't mean her power was ok and good for the game health overall. Same with sabotaging traps.
Since you automatically assume requesting for a QoL means the person asking must be bad that tells me everything I need to know. Git gud /thread what a great way to contribute to a discussion.

Then people should ask for that aspect of wraith to be buffed.
Removing unique killer-interactions that make chases more interesting isn't the way to go.
What is interesting about lightburn? The feeling of invincibility you get by merely having a flashlight against a mediocre tier killer? what about flashbangs which instantly burn you at any distance? How is being burned by a flashlight while you're locked in a pallet breaking animation an "interesting interaction"? Please elaborate

@mynameisBlade said:
Let the Killer pick the Hex Totem Spawn. In preset locations of course. The only risk of bringing a Hex should be that it can be destroyed. Not oh it is randomly in the most obvious spot seen by all players at the start of the match....
That won't happen. It's too hard to implement. How will the killer choose the totem spawn? DO you get to run around the map looking for the perfect place? That's counter-productive and would waste a ######### ton of time. Not to mention it would imply that all dull totems wouldn't spawn until the killer places their hex, so now all of a sudden you're nerfing survivor perks at the same time. Blocking totems is the easiest way to ensure you get value with minimal impact to the current gameplay.

maybe the ideal would be if the totems were not placed in the game, but the killer himself put them where they wanted, so he could hide well, and the perk activated from there, so the killer would decide the time he wanted that particular perk activate it, so you don't have the problem of losing the perk right at the beginning of the game, it's a complicated subject, but your idea of blocking the totems is not that bad but that's why they created the undyng, but who knows in the future they will create more perks
See that makes everything so much more complicated. When do you set the totems? At the start of the match? Then you end up wasting even more time trying to look for spots for totems. Also it'd be extremely busted and abusable if you could do it at any point during the match...then everyone would just force a 3 gen and then set ruin in the same area. That's not very balanced.
-
@JoaoVanBlizzard said:
If the Hex started blocked in the game the survs would simply stay in generators and use perks to counter these hexes, however I don't think the killer needs this base kit because he has other perks to protect his hex, that's what you're asking is same thing I think the game hooks should be blocked for 60 seconds so I don't take campung at the beginning of the game, would you like that? probably not right
Exactly my point. If the hex is blocked at the start survivors just get on gens. The game progresses normally and nobody gets affected by the change. It's the least oppressive way to go about it. The only change is that it guarantees you can get use of your hexes for 1 minute at the very least. Whether survivors know where the totems are or not is irrelevant and it gives the killer build maximum strength when survivors are also the strongest in a trial (no killer pressure, 3 people potentially on gens). Assuming they find one of the hexes they can just continue working on their primary objective for a minute and cleanse immediately after the timer runs out so no harm to survivors, but that first minute will most likely have gotten you enough value to where you don't feel like you've been punished by the RNG through no fault of your own. Even Haunted Ground (or HG paired with Retribution for that matter) being blocked would actually prevent the killer from potentially winning the game in the first minute of the match...what more do you want??

@Wolfven said:
All BHVR needs to do is have an internal map "banning" before the match starts by 'banning" all the maps last played by all 5 players and put them into the "banned" pool and then choose a map from the remaining pool. Done.
There's a reason LF masks were removed while their reporting system from the middle ages is still there. I believe something along the lines (maybe last 3 maps instead of 5) would work, but that entails putting in extra work, sir, and the devs for the most part follow the bare minimum standard, cause they're scared anything more may break the game in 10 other ways. It's unfortunate, but it's what it is.
-
@Nathan13 said:
I would maybe give it 30 seconds but yeah something needs to be done about spawns.
In some maps it takes you longer than 30 seconds to walk across to where survivors are. That's part of the issue. You definitely need more than 30 seconds or survivors would be encouraged to stealth around the totem (which they saw immediately after spawning) and cleanse it as soon as it's unblocked with no real downside as the killer has no pressure in early game. 1 minute makes it a lot harder to do so.
Hell, there's even the code to implement it in the game already with Plaything. Such an easy QoL change.
-
@Bran said:
I kinda feel the same man. Removing the masks really doesn't do anything.
Like, okay...now they can't use it...what else changes?
Exactly. Like it would have been fine if in the same developer update they had also committed to putting in place better measures to combat racism in game but no, they just remove the mask and then bury their heads in the sand. It can't be that hard, but it takes more work than just typing a paragraph.
-
A lot of times certain bugs are harder to fix bc the devs don't know how to recreate them. Combine that with spaghetti code and it becomes a nightmare to fix recurring issues. I'm sure they care, they just don't know how to fix them.
-
First of all, racism has no place in Dbd or the Dbd community. I also don't even own any of the LF masks so I don't really care whether they remove them or not. However, the way they announced this left a really bad taste in my mouth. Out of all the ways BHVR could have tried to curb racial harassment in the game they chose the laziest and less meaningful one. So yeah, deveoper update, you removed the mask, and then what? Are we good now?
Why not announcing instead that you're fixing your outdated and convoluted reporting system to make it as easy as possible to flag racist behavior? How about tracking players from the server end so the burden of proof isn't on the affected player? What steps are you taking to ban racist players who engage in hateful behavior? In other words, other than removing a mask that was problematic from a PR standing point, what's your commitment to fight against racism, BHVR? Cause just removing a mask ain't it for sure.
-
Never thought I'd see the day when people would complain about the Wraith being OP but here we are...
Goes to show, people will whine about this game no matter what the devs change, which they in turn can use as an excuse not to implement changes that are actually needed. Smh.
-
If you're having to literally beg the players to make the game enjoyable for newcomers then maybe the problem is the game and not the players...
Ever thought about that?
ìt's amazing too see the level of mental gymnastics from some of the people in this community.
-
There was nothing about reducing his speed boost after uncloaking in the patch notes. I do not think this was intended. If I understand correctly the only thing that was supposed to change was his cloaked speed and the time it takes to uncloak, not the speed.
-
You're preaching to the choir my dude
-
I'd say there's a certain grey haired game designer whose ideas/opinions very often happen to be the opposite of what players actually need in the game, I suspect the game would actually improve quite a bit if they were to be let go. They won't do that.
An actually competent QA team would also be a good start.
-
You talk about not having a connection to the devs, then proceed to ask people not to burn bridges with them and make them dislike us 'customers'. Well what if we apply the same logic but we swap the power roles, so to speak, I believe it is in BHVR's best interest to keep their players happy. No players, no game, no sweet sweet cosmetics revenue. So we do, in a way, get a say as you can see from them backpedaling after the backlash.
While I don't condone people targeting the devs with personal insults as they deserve respect just like anybody, people are entitled to their own opinions and some of them may be stronger than your composed, pragmatic demeanor. And even a blind man can see that they're not exactly the best at quality control or communicating with their players. Not to mention most people in this forum paid money for this game so the least they can expect is for it to function as intended. Imagine you are someone who bought the game when the twins came out (broken patch btw), and then this is what you get immediately after. Or imagine you've been playing this game for a while and really love the unique concept, the lore, or whatever, and just feel very passionate about it so you wish the devs could elevate it to its fullest potential but every time they just give you the bare minimum to keep it functioning. It turns out a lot of people have those feelings in common and that alone makes it a "community" whether you feel part of it or not.
What exactly are the ramifications you are afraid of? They have proved time and time again that they don't listen unless they're threatened (i.e. with bad press like in the color blind incident, or with a potential loss of players/revenue as it happened with this patch). The thing is, people aren't upset about the changes themselves, rather, they are upset at providing feedback to the devs after the PTB only for it to be ignored, then after pointing it out they're generally met with condescending replies from the devs. So the concerns were made politely and timely, but unfortunately the devs chose to ignore them.
The dev team has been notorious for their stubbornness over the years, so what bridges could people burn if they never existed to begin with?
So as a customer I don't expect them to like me. I understand they're just trying to sell a product and profit from it. And if they want more they better fix their ######### game.

Are people really THAT upset that the New UI and character movement went through? I’ve seen threads about people “leaving” the game because of it when we all know they’ll be back in 3 days. Like C’mon how old are we? Yeah, sure it’s not the best and people are allowed to have their personal opinions but to lash out at the devs who nerf the perks and add-ons you cry about and update the maps you want updated (both survivor and killer side), you sure are ungrateful. I don’t mind the HUD while others do mind it but be happy they’re willing to try new things.
What exactly is ungrateful about demanding a certain standard of quality in a product you have purchased? You make it sound as if they updated the game out of kindness and goodwill. This is a multi-million dollar game studio we're talking about my dude. Sure, they're not EA or Blizzard, but they certainly have the resources to do a lot more than what they deliver. No players, no game. It's in their best interest to get their act together.

I have actually and no. 1 that rarely happens no. 2 once you stop feeling entitled to a win it's not as bad as you make it seem. What makes you think there's nobody better than you in this game? What makes you think there aren't players who can loop you or outplay you?

I'm not saying that spirit is fair or anything, but if you classify "guessing right" as no counterplay then TL walls also have no counterplay because you simply guess right on what the killer is gonna do. Same with huntress with her "will I lift a hatchet or will I keep going" 50/50, by your logic she also has no counterplay either.
Basically your logic is flawed on what is and what isn't counters.
One thing I will admit though is when injured it pretty much is the spirits game to lose.
No it's not. There are ways to run TL's that are objectively more efficient. Once the killer runs counterclockwise it is a 50/50 scenario. That doesn't mean once you get to a TL wall it's just luck. With Huntress and any other killer you can literally have visual and auditory feedback on what they're doing which you can use to react accordingly. How well you react after is a different thing. WHich btw not sure if you noticed but the Spirit's power has none of those. No feedback.

No, I don't own a business. But I am in Mental Health, and forcing yourself into a stressful activity is unhealthy. The man literally said the author's words were "a valid opinion".
Just because you want something a certain way doesn't mean you get it. My kids often ask for unhealthy food and demand a drive thru instead. Telling them no is not "alienating a community". The examples given there are asinine.
It is not one team telling you to root for another team. It is someone telling you that if you get stress headaches from watching football, maybe you shouldn't watch football.
Or if your Apple Iphone was causing you to lose sleep at night because of its brightness, maybe you should try a different form of alarm clock.
Ah so definitely you didn't get a single hint of sarcasm in his (the game director btw) answer? Oof I you're in Mental Health hopefully you're not telling victims of abuse to take declarations of love from their abusers at face value...I feel like you're trolling at this point. Maybe you're just a casual player who's not aware of how the devs usually interact with the community in this game, and that's ok, but you're posting in the forums so clearly you have some kind of investment. What would you suggest can be done then, to get the devs to include colorblind people in the gameplay experience?

I see nothing alienating about this video. At all. First of all, it isn't targeting any part of the community.
He is saying if you find Killer stressful, try Survivor. If you still can't handle it, take a break from the game. This is healthy advice for ANY activity you partake in. This video is not the smoking gun you think it is.
Clearly you don't run a business. Or if you do maybe you shouldn't be. Imagine if Apple was like "didn't like our new phone? Why don't you buy a Galaxy instead?". Or let's say your team isn't doing well this season, and the president of the team tells the fans that well if they don't like the way our team is playing go root for our rivals...do you not see it?
He was talking about the killer experience, you know, 50% of every single match, at at time when the game was in a way worse state than it is today balance-wise and out of all the possible things he could have said he chose to shut down any meaningful dialogue about legitimate issues with a snarky answer. If you take it literally then of course it means what you said but he meant the exact opposite.
Which is what happens with the colorblind issue. They decided at some point that it allegedly gives players an advantage, even though said advantage has never been been demonstrated (as they've never tested colorblind mode). So yes they're choosing not to be inclusive and therefore alienating a segment of their players who have a disability and have been asking this for literally years.

Not only they take years to fix bugs but the PTB is slowly becoming the Publicity Test Build since bugs don't even get acknowledged after, let alone fixed like with the latest chapter. It's now just a way to create hype with the fog whisperers. Pretty sad that they show so little love for their own product.

Your clip only proves that you're just not very good at the game my dude. Any person with a brain would have known better than to keep repairing injured at blink distance after infectious fright...it's only easy mode if your opponent hands you a hook on a silver plate.

Whispers, AND
A Nurse's Calling...
Most useless, distracting perk since Monstrous Shrine. It's so situational and more often than not when I see somebody healing I'm already chasing somebody else. Good players heal near you cause they know they can prolong the chase long enough, bad players go to the edge of the map which means I have to go out of my way to get them and it makes me lose pressure.
-
Bumping because I get this when playing killer and honestly it's really frustrating. Playing Nurse and coming out of a blink less than 1m away from a survivor only to not get hits or hit objects instead. Playing Huntress and having to aim towards the air behind survivors because if I throw a hatchet to their character model it goes right through them. Feelsbadman.
-
Bumping because this is exactly what's happening to me and it's so infuriating. It's gotten to the point that I'm having to aim hatchets 1m to the side of survivors or they will go right through them...

Then my luck just sucks cause all I want is a Ranger Medkit and here I am pulling key after key...
-
Ok this strikes a chord with me because I have a similar playstyle. Basically I try my best to let everyone have fun. That being said, I learned long time ago that I play by my own rulebook and it all depends on the scenario. If they're getting trashed or there's a rage quit I usually will tone it down so the game doesn't end in 5 min, give hatch, let them farm etc. Against decent players I'll slug if I have to. There's literally no reason not to since I know I'm going against good players so they WILL get picked up. It's not like they're going to spend the whole game on the floor till they bleed out. Now if I'm going against a strong/toxic swf then I'm gonna go all in and in those games it's usually no mercy. If they BM so do I if I feel like it.
Notice that these are my own decisions and if a chill game turns a bit harder and I'm feeling competitive I may just decide to slug all 4 of them dingdongs. Whatever the case even though I want everyone to have fun that includes myself so priorities. I play nice but because I want to no because of some BS code of honor. I mean it's a fuxxing videogame.
Now I think you maybe a bit confused. A 3k against a good team is a pretty good outcome and you shouldn't expect to always kill everyone. You figured out what you did wrong so next time drop chases earlier. Also many times even if I do everything "by the survivor book" they'll still call you a camper/tunneler, etc so yeah, you can't please everyone if I tunnel it's my ######### problem.

There's more to game design than just "what I think is cool". It's a discipline that requires careful systemic thought about everything you put into the game. Being able to maintain a live game's design over time is just as important as putting cool things in. It's both possible and necessary to do both.
Kinda like when y'all carefully thought about lockers and the Twins power.
