All the data would be nice.
Apologies if it wasn't clear - I do plan to share all of the data I've gathered, as far as practicality allows. Unfortunately, there's a huge amount of it - over 1000 people responded, and there were 15 questions in the survey, some of which weren't simple multiple choice, so essentially there are about 15-20,000 pieces of individual data, and I can't fit every single one into a forum post.
I will put everything that I reasonably can into that post, which will include statistical data on all the points I listed above, along with extra graphs comparing relationships between data sets that I find interesting. What I'm asking here is if there are any pieces of information that you guys are particularly interested in, so that I can make sure that everything people want to know is included in the post 😊

Its the unfortunate part that a lot of posts and conversations on here will very quickly fall into whataboutery, can't mention strong killer perks without "what about *insert strong survivor perks*" and you cannot mention camping without "what about gen rushing"
Its a type of deflection, im not saying that everyone does this, but calling out the shortcomings of one group of players and they will try to deflect the blame or just share the blame with another set. Of course they have a point with alot of the connections, keys and moris are 2 very similar coins.
Generally, it's not that the people who bring that stuff up are wrong, it's just that it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Yes, X may have problems, but we're talking about Y.

As you all know, I am planning to release the results of this survey publicly as soon as I can get them properly organised. For everyone who is interested (and I know many of you are), I have created a thread calling for suggestions as to what kind of questions you want to see answered, what kind of graphs you might want to see, etc. So go there and make your requests!

Reporting people definitely does have consequences. Assuming their word counts for something as far as you're concerned, the devs have confirmed this on multiple occasions.
Of course, this is only as long as what they did is a reportable offence and you followed the guidelines for reporting. For example, certain offences, like griefing or holding the game hostage, require clear video proof for anything to be done about them. It's likely that most people who think reporting doesn't do anything actually just didn't lodge their report properly or reported for something that isn't actually against the rules, because that does happen a lot.
-
It depends generally on which killer you're using, but basically it's all about putting pressure on the survivors. "Pressure", in the context of DBD, is just another word for forcing them to stop working on generators.
It sounds like what you're doing wrong is mainly committing to a chase with one survivor for too long, allowing the other three to do generators undisturbed. Playing killer in DBD is all about knowing your own limits and managing your time wisely. If a survivor is running you around for that long, or if they're running a strong loop that you know it's going to take you a long time to catch them on, it's time to abandon the chase and find an easier target. Never be afraid to drop a chase if there's something more worthwhile you could be doing instead.
One simple way to not only find survivors but also put pressure on them is obviously to patrol the generators. Most survivors won't keep working on a generator if they hear the killer coming, allowing you to at the very least stall progress on the generator momentarily. You can use perks like Overcharge and Surveillance to make patrolling easier, more effective and more time-efficient. Corrupt Intervention is also a good perk as it effectively shrinks the map in the early game.
Another strategy for applying pressure is the "hit-and-run" technique, which focuses on forcing the survivors to waste time healing or be penalised for staying injured. It typically involves combining the perks Thanatophobia and Sloppy Butcher, which are usually paired with other healing-related perks like Nurse's Calling and sometimes Coulrophobia. This sort of strategy is particularly effective on stealth killers, who are typically not strong around loops but excel at catching survivors off-guard and getting an early first hit.
The best way to exert pressure on survivors is, of course, getting hooks. If someone is on a hook, at least one other person ought to be trying to save them, which means that half of the team are not doing generators. But getting hooks is mostly a matter of just playing well and ending chases quickly, which is a lot more complicated than just your build and depends a lot on which killer you're playing.

You were too good for the Emblem system to comprehend. You should have rescued your teammates from all those hooks they didn't get, and healed them from all the hits they didn't take!
-
I would imagine that it varies. Some companies BHVR are probably still in negotiations with, and some actually approached them and asked to have a DLC in the game! Same for the design process - some characters come together very quickly, and others take months and months to reach a workable state.

I thought it was just a flat rate bonus for games that end with unrepaired generators.
There is a bonus if the gates don't get opened at the end of the game, but killers also earn points (at a flat rate) based on how many generators remain each minute. Previously, the number of points you earned for Gatekeeper increased with each passing minute, whereas now you get the same amount of points for keeping 5 generators unrepaired for 1 minute as you would for keeping 1 generator unrepaired for 5 minutes.
-
The kind of people who insult their opponents at the end of games do so regardless of what role they're playing. It's really not a killers versus survivors issue.
First, I would just like to clarify that there is a difference between not playing to win and not caring if you lose. I always play to win - it's natural, it's a competitive game - but it also doesn't bother me if I don't. I play to win because playing to the best of my ability is fun, not because I need to win for the sake of personal fulfillment.
If you want to play to win, go for your life (so to speak). If you just want to muck around and have fun, that's okay too. Statistically (and very generally) speaking, though, you are probably going to lose at least half of the time, so being okay with losing is probably a good thing to practice in any case, no matter what role you're playing.
So to answer your question - yes, it is okay to not care if you win. But don't let that stop you from trying.
-
I'll give you an explanation from a comment I made on a different thread about the same thing. If you have any further questions about it, feel free to ask 😊
Basically, Gatekeeper used to increase the reward exponentially if more generators stayed up for longer. Now, it just rewards a flat amount of points per generator every minute, meaning that a killer who defends five generators for one minute will get the same amount of points as someone who defends one generator for five minutes.
If you want a more detailed explanation, the old Gatekeeper operated on a formula of p = 5 x g x t, where p is the number of emblem points granted every minute, g is the number of generators remaining and t is the number of minutes elapsed. So if a game lasted for five minutes and no generators were completed, the killer would receive 25 points in the first minute (5 x 5 x 1), 50 points in the second minute (5 x 5 x 2), 75 points in the third minute (5 x 5 x 3), 100 points in the fourth minute (5 x 5 x 4) and 125 points in the fifth minute (5 x 5 x 4), plus a bonus for having 5 generators remaining at the end of the trial.
The new Gatekeeper operates on a simpler formula of p = g, where p is the number of emblem points granted every minute, and g is the number of generators remaining. So in the same example of a 5-minute game with no generators completed, the killer would gain 5 points every minute for a total of 25 points, plus a bonus at the end of the game for no gates being opened. If two generators had been done in the first minute but the game had lasted for 9 minutes, the killer would receive 3 points every minute for a total of 27 points, plus the same bonus for no gates being opened. If two generators were done after two minutes, and then the remaining three stayed up for the next six minutes until the end of the match, the killer would receive a total of 5 points each minute for the first two minutes in which no generators were complete, and then 3 points for every minute after that, for a total of 28(5x2+3x6) points, plus the no-gates-opened bonus.
In this way, the new Gatekeeper emblem punishes killers much less harshly for not slowing down repairs in the early game. It's still problematic in other ways, but that's another discussion. Also, the thresholds for earning the different emblem levels (Iridescent, Gold, etc.) will presumably be adjusted to fit with the new points system.

In my opinion, the only times when it's okay to DC are when the game is being held hostage and you have literally no other choice, when you're the victim of a gamebreaking bug that prevents the game from ending, or when you suddenly have something else to attend to that is more important than playing DBD.

Why would that kind of thing be in the patch notes? The patch notes just state what changes were made, they're not meant to be a place for the devs to talk about their future plans. Again, that's literally never the case in any game.
Unless by "Patch Notes" you mean the "Designer Notes", in which case that's another discussion entirely and not what I was referring to when describing the purpose of patch notes.

The name on the board is their nicknames.
Even the lore and item description itself tends to bounce between calling and the actual names and nicknames
Joey and Julie being the ones that get swapped around frequently
Ah, that makes sense. Well, in that case, everything still fits as far as I'm concerned.
-
I agree that sometimes the wording on perks could be clearer. I usually just chalk it up to the fact that many of the devs are bilingual, and English isn't necessarily their first language even though they may be fluent in it, so occasionally a grammatical error or a strangely worded sentence slips under the radar.
As for the patch notes, it's not customary for patch notes in games to provide a justification for every change. Patch notes are there to tell you what changes were made, not why. Littering them with explanations would just clutter them up and make it harder to distinguish the actual information.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/614/J9WQHUF35DYX.jpeg
If you notice, there’s numbers on the walls which i’m gonna guess is kills. So why did the group act so surprised over Frank if they’ve done this before? You could say “it’s kills after the janitor” but right after they killed the janitor they went to burry him and ended up in the entity. Still an interesting thought though!
We don't know that it's kills. According to their lore, they did a lot of minor crimes like vandalism and theft before the whole janitor incident, largely inspired by Frank. Those tallies could simply be for successful crimes pulled off. Perhaps they had some sort of competition going.
Although, that illustration was most likely created before the lore was written, since the names on the wall don't quite match up with their names in the lore and so may have been the names for earlier iterations of the characters.

Yes thank you guys for answering so thoroughly. I've only been playing for a few months and it's changed a bit since I've started already. So any information is very much appreciated. Also, can anyone tell me why the rank pairing is so off? I hope this is a glitch. I do play as both, but it seems like the game is tailored far more towards survivors.
There is currently a bug with matchmaking wherein the system sometimes receives incorrect rank information from the killer, causing them to be matched with survivors outside of the usual six-rank limit. The devs talked about it in their last livestream - it is something they are aware of and are currently working on fixing.
However, in the case of the screenshot you posted, that probably isn't a bug at all, because grey ranks (17-20) don't have a hard limit on which ranks they can be matched with. The reason for this is because grey ranks are almost exclusively new players, and there aren't necessarily enough new players at any given time to guarantee matches with people around their own rank. Basically, if the game can't find other grey or yellow-ranked players to match you with, it matches you with players of higher ranks because it assumes you would rather have a badly-matched game than no game at all.

Ah, my bad, I forgot Windows of Opportunity existed and assumed it was a typo XD And you're also right about the cap, I guess I just can't read. Sorry about that. What a mess 🤦
To answer your actual question, WoO isn't capped and you can get it up to a maximum range of 52 metres with four stacks of Open-Handed.
-
No, the only perk that has a capped range as far as interaction with Open-Handed goes is Kindred.
With four stacks of Open-Handed, you can increase Bond's aura reading range to a maximum of 68 metres, or OoO's to a maximum of 104 metres if you are the obsession, and 96 metres if you're not.

I need to say that it is a way less than I expected
I felt the same way when I first saw those stats, honestly. I think, especially as a killer, it's very easy to assume that survivors were SWF because they were coordinated with things like bodyblocking and helped each other out. But the reality is, that sort of thing happens a lot more often between random solos than most people realise. Even as a survivor main myself, I often find myself falling into that same assumption when I do play killer or watch someone else play it.
-
Yes, they synergise very well. It's one of my favourite combinations. It's a bit of a gamble to take into a match, because you're basically devoting half your perk slots to a situation that may never arise, but it's really fun when it does work out. Tenacity allows you to crawl away much faster and farther than the killer expects if they leave you alone for even ten seconds, and Unbreakable allows you to recover faster and (my favourite part) recover to 99% instead of 95% so that it's very easy for a teammate to come and pick you up.
-
@Markness said:
Hi Fibi,
You could make it so they don’t stack. It frees up a killers perk slot this way and makes it so that survivors would not have to run into it so much. Killers could still run it though for a guaranteed multiplier, but they could also have the option of not running it in case they want to gamble that they go against a SWF group.
What ends up happening is that killers get compensated for their pain and SWF can continue to play with their friends and the queues won’t get hit so hard.
Before rank reset I had instant queues as a red rank killer and 20 or so minute wait as my survivor in the red ranks. This is only going to get worse with the ruin change so something like this could help in the mean time.
You could, although I'm not sure people would like that. I agree with you that it would be good to provide players with more of an incentive to play killer, but I personally feel that improving the killer experience overall, rather than just compensating them for a bad experience, is a more reliable solution.
While bloodpoint rewards could work as a temporary solution in the meantime, I suspect that its temporariness would cause issues, because if the killer experience or the killer/SWF dynamic were improved in the future, and the bloodpoint rewards removed as a result, players would then feel cheated.

Oh, that's actually good to know, sorry for spreading that then. Just this is the first time I've seen someone actually say that wasn't happening.
It's okay, not your fault 😊 As I said, it's unfortunately a pretty big misconception in the community at the moment because not everyone reads the patch notes or plays the PTB, and certain big names were spreading the news around before the official patch notes got released.
-
I don't have a huge issue with the idea, although I think it's unlikely to be implemented, but I just wanted to point out that giving killers another BP modifier wouldn't do anything to reduce the prevalence of BBQ, since there's no reason why players wouldn't just stack the two.
-
@Buckie said:
Don't worry, with the "fix" incoming, you can't see what rank they are! So now instead of knowing that the matchmaking is garbage, you'll just think you're a bad killer.
That's not happening. The only reason anyone thought it was was because of an unofficial source that included the feature in "leaked" patch notes, and because certain high-profile community members spread the misinformation by tweeting about it. It was never announced by BHVR, nor was it included in the official patch notes or in the PTB.
To address OP's question, there is a bug in matchmaking at the moment where the system receives incorrect rank information from the killer, causing them to be matched with survivors outside of the "six-rank limit". It's an issue that the devs are aware of and are currently working to fix.
-
Not necessarily. Matchmaking would play a part, since there is no hard limit what ranks a grey-ranked player can be matched with if options are scarce, but there's also the likelihood that a lot of people may not play killer that much. There are a lot of survivor mains out there who only play killer for dailies or challenges, but still keep their killers decently levelled up for when they do play them. Such people would be a very low killer rank, but could still have high-tier DLC perks unlocked on their characters. The same would apply even to people who play both roles and just choose to invest all their bloodpoints into killer. There are also veteran players who come back to the game after having deranked to grey or yellow due to not playing in a few months.
Basically, although it's probably not as common a perk at low as at high ranks, there are a lot of reasons why grey or yellow-ranked killers might have access to Ruin, so unfortunately fixing matchmaking, while important, isn't going to completely resolve the issue here.

It could have changed drastically within the last six months, of course, but here are some stats from last May. There isn't really a huge difference between platforms.
-
Yeah, that's a dedicated server issue. The same thing happened when the servers released on PC, you could no longer see your "recent players" on Steam.
My guess is that it's because that information was previously stored locally, as part of the peer-to-peer connection, but now that it's stored on external servers, your account doesn't have access to it anymore.

A better way to handle that would be to increase wait time for lobbies when people dodge. Right now its about 4 seconds when you leave. For each dodge you make it increased by say 5 seconds. You dodge 3 lobbies well now you have almost a 20 second wait time for another lobby. At least I think its better. I liked knowing the ranks of people on my team or that I'm playing against because I sort of know what to expect.
Yeah, personally I think that would be a good solution.
