  • I dislike SWF from a balance perspective because the game was clearly designed in such a way that survivors have to work with limited information, alleviated only by a few choice perks. SWF get all these info perks for free and still have their perk slots open for other goodies. Considering SWF is never going away and the devs see, to embrace it, some of these info perks, kindred for example, need to be made default effects.

  • I think Twins and Blight powers fit quite well tbh. Blight injects himself with some weird concoction that makes him smash into things like a lunatic. Twins you literally control both “twins,” though I think that victor pinning survivors is a cool idea albeit too powerful. I agree trickster’s power doesn’t fit at all though. He’s just a terribly designed killer in general imho.

  • Trapper sort of looks like Jason but that’s about it.

  • Much appreciated. As a new player this grind is worse than most cash grab mobile games or hyper-Asian MMORPGs lol.

  • @Profezia said:

    • you forget it's even coming out until day X
    • you say "cool, what is the next chapter" after seeing the killer, survivors and their abilities.
    • you don't have bloodpoints capped + 8000 shards by the release of the chapter
    • you are more hyped for the buffs&nerfs it brings
    • there's no new map or even graphical update
    • when even a fixed bug is a more interesting topic to discuss

    What else did I miss?

You forgot that the hype train aka streamers and youtubers have barely even pumped out any content with the new killer. There’s a smattering here and there but that’s about it. If the hype train barely notices your next big content update, you can comfortably bet your life savings that it’s going to be subpar.

  • I mean let’s not mess about, Spirit is incredibly easy to play. Perhaps the easiest killer. She can run around at lightning speed whilst completely invisible with the only downside being she can’t see survivors, but she can still hear them, and see their scratch marks + blood (with addon.) So it’s almost no downside at all. Even if you can’t pop out right on top of a survivor, you’ll be close enough to catch up within a few seconds, even as a new player.

  • Just give Spirit a global wail sound when phasing. That way there’s a tell for survivors in chase with her, and people on gens will know there’s a chance she could pop up behind them for the grab. Also it will sweeten the blow a little as a global sound can passively mind game random people all over the map.

  • I’m honestly not even remotely excited about the new killer. This game isn’t near polished enough nor is the latency good enough to have to hit someone 8 times with those little knives, especially on console, not to mention the ricochet addon where the maps aren’t even designed to support it. Adding to that the fact that knife states dissipate so quickly, as well as the killer generally being a far, FAR weaker version of plague... It’s pretty disappointing.

  • That would be cool, but I’d rather have Alien.

  • The 6% on spinechill has clutched quite a few gens for me. Sure It’s nothing special but it’s a secondary effect and when the gen you’re working on is almost finished, with the killer is coming right for you, that 6% can make the difference between completing or abandoning it.

  • BBQ is fine. While the effect can be strong at times, it’s certainly not overpowering and has adequate counter play. Just in a locker or fake going one direction and double back.

  • As a new player, the grind is ridiculous. Worse than many mobile games. I had to play for about 100 hours just to get two decent survivor builds and one viable killer build. This was after spending £60 on the game. Bare in mind as a new survivor you’re only getting 15 to 25k blood points per match on average, which is a puny amount, not even enough for one blood tree level after the first few levels.

Serious question: do you have trouble with metaphors, comparisons, examples, parallels, and other stuff like that?

The irony is that you’re really missing the point(s) I’m making..pretty hard..yet I’m crystal clear on what you’re saying and where you’re coming from lol. I’m done with you now. Move on bud.

I'm not policing anyone, nor did I "try to make it about race", so you can drop it.

I disagree with you on certain things you said and expressed my disagreement, that's the point of a discussion forum. I find it quite funny that you claim I take issue with different opinions when you clearly can't handle my disagreement.

As for the race thing, I mentioned it to point out that, intellectually, I don't see why people are against LGBT representation in media on the basis that "there's too much of it" when another group already dominates media representation. It's plainly written, I don't see why you're putting words in my mouth.

The discussion is about an LGBT character in DBD, not how many white straight people are on TV. Personally, I don’t judge people by the colour of their skin nor their sexuality, and I apply the same curtesy to media. I find the whole “representation” thing very faulty and highly ironic.

My whole post was saying that I’m perfectly content with an LGBT character so long as they’re not forced for the sake of politics, but you took issue with the way I said it. That’s why I was making a point about policing people’s speech and behaviour. People who look at everything through the lens of perceived identity instead of reality are obsessed with trying to force everyone to behave a certain way, and this all ties into why some of the DBD community have expressed concerns about an LGBT character in the first place. Politics, politics, politics.

You’re perfectly entitled to disagree and naturally I can handle your opinion hence why I responded to it in the way I did, humouring your arguments despite the fact that I wasn’t in the mood to debate politics. You were sidetracking the discussion unnecessarily though, instead of simply accepting that someone is in favour of an LGBT character so long as it’s not forced, you wanted to debate my reasoning.

I do get what you’re saying. But I also disagree. I don’t think there should be an LGBT character just because there are so many straight characters already. I don’t look at things that way and I think it’s a strange perspective to take. I do understand it on a certain level, but it gets taken too far and that’s what some people are annoyed with. I’m not one for keeping score, tallying up the statistics of how many this, how many that. Everything should just be taken for what it is imho

I think there should be an LGBT character because that character just so happens to be LGBT, and it’s merely a small part of their makeup as opposed to their entire identity. That’s the correct way to do representation. Make it organic. Make it fit.

Add an interesting character. Make them gay for all I care. Just make them genuine. I don’t want to see an overtly flamboyant drag queen whose tank top says “Sissies love Kpop” because it will obviously be more tired old political pandering and I’m simply not interested in that.

LGBT sexuality is shoehorned into just about everything these days and I can see why some people are getting bored with it.

Really? Because I can't, at least on an intellectual level.

On an emotional level, sure, having something you're not used to appear multiple times can be annoying.

On an intellectual level, the fact remains that the vast majority of media is about heterosexual cis white people (disproportionately so).

And "shoehorned"? Why is the inclusion of anything other than the default seen as "shoehorned"? Artistic freedom, and all that.

There’s no need to keep shouting it from the rooftops - the entire establishment has your back already, as does the majority of society.

Yes, "the establishment" (whatever that means) and the "majority of society" that keeps gay torture camps (commonly called "conversion therapy" to hide the fact that it's quite literally torture) up and running.

In summary, by all means add a character who just so happens to be LGBT, but don’t make it a blatant pandering to tired old identity politics as this actually has a negative effect on the LGBT community because it makes what would normally be an understanding and accepting person into someone who just don’t want to hear it anymore.

You can be understanding and accepting while also not wanting to hear about something. However, if all it takes for you to go from "understanding and accepting" to "hateful and opposing" is the presence of the thing you (supposedly) understand and accept, then you were never very understanding and accepting to begin with.

An example: I understand and accept that people like to eat popcorn in movie theaters. Personally, I can't even stand the smell, makes me nauseous. The fact that I see popcorn associated with movies doesn't make me hate movies, nor theaters, nor popcorn eaters.

You see. The TDLR of my post is “by all means add a character who just so happens to be LGBT but don’t make it a hollow token character,” yet you still take issue with it. You’ve even managed to try and make it about race. This is the problem with intersectional ideologues. They want to police everyone’s speech and behaviour, and if anything is off by their imaginary standard it’s offensive and something to make a big fuss about.

I can, on an intellectual level. I judge people by their character and actions, not their sexual preference or the colour of their skin. The same goes for media - I judge it by the content and value provided, not by whether the lead character is gay, or black, etc etc. It’s perfectly reasonable to find forced identity politics tedious and boring, and no amount of policing will change that.

Yes. Shoehorned. It’s very obvious when I mention shoehorning that I’m referring to shoehorning, and not to characters or personalities who just so happen to be LGBT, hence the point of my post in the first place.

There are many such cases of token characters and personalities being shoehorned into various media to appease particular groups of people and to profit from them in the process. This is obviously what I’m referring to and I suspect you’re aware of that.

The establishment and the majority of society is indeed fully behind the LGBT community and this is highly demonstrable. I could give many examples, but frankly this is going way off topic and I’ve really no desire for a big debate, so we’ll agree to disagree. I will say though, the fact that the extremely niche “gay conversion therapy” exists doesn’t magically mean that there’s systemic discrimination against the LGBT community, or that the establishment/society is against the LGBT community.

Anyway, what exactly does gay conversion therapy have to do with an LGBT character in DBD?

You’re missing the point. Someone can be understanding and accepting whilst also finding something boring and tedious - this is true - however, extremist identity politics is absolutely going to alienate and irk some of those people, turning them away from the “cause.” No amount of policing, criticising, banning, doxxing or bullying will ever change this. Some people will simply become fed up, turn around and say “I don’t want to hear it.”

Lets try and keep this on topic. The only people who can police my speech or opinions on these boards are the mods. The sad thing is my comment was supportive of an LGBT character, but you still had to take issue with it instead of simply accepting that we share different views on the overarching topic.

  • I don’t have any issues with adding a character who just so happens to be LGBT, however if they’re a token character who’s entire identity is LGBT sexuality, then while it obviously won’t make me stop playing the game, I’ll find it highly cringe-worthy and tedious.

LGBT sexuality is shoehorned into just about everything these days and I can see why some people are getting bored with it. We get it. Some people are LGBT. I’m bi. One of my friends is a transvestite. There’s no need to keep shouting it from the rooftops - the entire establishment has your back already, as does the majority of society. There’s nothing you can do about the fact that some people don’t like it.

In summary, by all means add a character who just so happens to be LGBT, but don’t make it a blatant pandering to tired old identity politics as this actually has a negative effect on the LGBT community because it makes what would normally be an understanding and accepting person into someone who just don’t want to hear it anymore.

  • If you play clown properly, there’s pretty much no such thing as a god pallet. Throw piss bottle on your pathing and throw the slow debuff on theirs and you’ll catch them 9/10.

  • Was someone in that game named AllSeeingGoy?

  • You can’t tell the community is screwed when the majority of replies are people who kill themselves on first hook lol.

  • I think after the struggle phase you should be let off the hook in injured state with sprint burst speed for 5 seconds, and the killer is stunned for 10 seconds if he’s within a 40 meter radius.

  • The killer will definitely be Nemesis. Give him the ability to smash through every obstacle in the game 😈

  • With many survivors it’s a lose lose situation unfortunately. If you don’t hold back you’ll have more fun you’ll have to facepalm through the usual salt. If you do hold back, you’ll have less fun, but will still have to facepalm through the salt albeit not quite as much.

  • The game isn’t designed around being in constant communication with your team. You’re supposed to be working with limited information, using your game sense and potentially your choice of perks to work out what’s going on or what to do next. SWF bypass the game’s inherent design/mechanics with discord but technically it’s cheating as they have far too much information at all times not to mention 20+ perks for free, and it’s not supposed to be like that, hence the game’s mechanics in the first place.

  • Aye I’ve noticed this. Even with Knockout they’re pretty fast. By the time you come back to the general vicinity, they sure as hell ain’t anywhere near it lol.

  • Bro just stop running towards me after unhook, go and heal up or do a gen. If you run at me I’m gonna tap dat.

Not the case by the way, I am a killer main and I have a different opinion.

What’s not the case? My post basically just said I get accused of camping and tunnelling on killer when it couldn’t be further from the truth. If your experience is different then that’s good but it doesn’t mean my experience matches yours. I just got called a tunneller (amongst other things lol) by a 3 man team for re-hooking a Dwight who literally ran into me in the opposite side of the map 😅

  • @ArthurPadula said:

Quit tunnelling and maybe people wouldn't DC.

Stop running directly into me after unhook when I’m on the other side of the map.

  • If you’re a killer and you don’t let all 4 survivors escape unfettered, you’re an absolute monster.

  • The grind is far too excessive. I purchased every survivor and killer, but after 100 hours of gameplay I have one killer build on Leatherface, and two survivor builds. I’m talking decent builds with meta perks. I have all these characters to use but I can only play them with suboptimal or bad perks. Just the grind to get all perk slots unlocked on so many characters is ridiculous.

Your argument is that spirit is fine because you watch the "best players in the world" on twitch.

I'm quoting you because no one else who is new to the game says spirit is fine. If you really watch so many streamers, you'd also know what their opinion on spirit is.

I doubt someone who is new to the game and asks people if tunneling is a bannable offense knows more about me, someone who has been playing for years and is pass 4k hours.

If you add something constructive to the discussion, which "killer hard survivor ez" is not, sure, I'll happily keep on talking about it.

Man you’re hilarious, but tedious. I’m done wasting my time with you now. You say I’m “full of #########” yet you’re literally just talking ######### the entire time, making up nonsense, moaning, with no constructive input whatsoever.

That was not the argument I made as you’re well aware, but you need to try to misrepresent what I say as some kind of weak ass attempt to discredit my opinion because you can’t handle the fact that some random guy on the internet disagrees with you lol. It’s actually sort of pathetic. You could just accept the fact that we disagree like I did and move on, but you insist on being a salty little dog about it, constantly quoting me with your asinine drivel lol.

Like how you’ve misrepresent the question I asked the mod twice in a row now, as some kind of desperate red herring. I’ve already corrected you on that, but seeing as your reading comprehension is somewhat lacking, I’ll oblige.

It had nothing to do with tunnelling and the fact you think the scenario I gave to the dev constitutes as tunnelling proves without a shadow of a doubt that you really don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. You’re one of those survivors who expects the killer to just let you win despite your terrible misplays.

I asked the mod if Killing someone when their entire team come to unhook in your face before you even have a chance to leave the tile, with no borrowed time, no DS, twice in a row before the guy who got screwed by their team dies, is bannable, because the dev said killing the same person multiple times is bannable. I gave them a specific scenario where the logical tactic is to take advantage of the enemy teams huge misplay, to secure yourself a win, and asked for clarification as to whether or not it constitutes as a bannable offence as the mods initial comment was vague.

By all means get in my notifications again and I’ll let you have the last word. You’re obviously desperate for it mate. Grow thicker skin and learn to accept the fact that not everybody shares the same opinion, and your opinion is not gospel.

I remember one of the first games I ever played was GTA Vice City when I was like 5. Loved that game lmao.

Ah same man. Mowing people down in the streets and killing hookers to get your money back. Simpler times.

  • Age ratings mean little to nothing and parents should, for the most part, ignore them entirely. They only exist because of politics and bureaucracy.

I still remember my first time watching A Nightmare on Elm Street when I was like 8 years old. ######### was dope. Sometimes I wish I could still get that same feeling from watching horrors. The charm is all gone now.

That scene at the start of Scream, with the tree. Seeing that for the first time when I was a kid. Good #########. I miss that.

  • For me it’s Freddy. I love his design but he just has a ton of power in his basekit which makes solo queue vs him a nightmare.

Don’t want to see him nerfed though. He’s not OP imho.

  • I hate facing spirit because of the mind game aspect, which I love in concept and definitely don’t want changed, but I don’t really struggle vs them tbh. It’s not that hard to tell when she’s phasing and to juke when healthy. When injured it is very difficult to avoid getting tagged if you’re caught out in a bad position, but that’s just part of her strength and your team has to play around it in other ways before/after.

You saying "best players" just in itself shows the lack of understanding. Just because someone streams and is good at the game doesnt mean they are the "best players"

Also calling someone a "salty dog" wont make me think you're any more informed about the game.

You’re full of assumptions. You’ve no idea who I watch and they’re indeed some of the best players in the game. Judging from our little interaction together I’d hazard a guess that I’m more familiar with the mechanics and balance than you are lol.

This going round in circles with you is becoming quite boring now. You’ve nothing productive to add to the discussion. I’ve already made my argument and you’ve not refuted it, presumably because you can’t.

For someone who cares so little for my opinion you sure seem to be quoting me a lot rather than dropping it and telling someone else they’re talking out of their ass instead. I’m sure they’ll appreciate your highly productive contribution.

This random guy you’ve never spoken to before disagrees with you on something. The horror!!!

Watching the "best players in the world" doesn't mean you understand the game or are good at it.

You're the one talking out of your arse, doesn't mean I'm salty for not falling into it.

Actually watching the best players in the world for 2 years, observing their gameplay and taking in their insights, irrefutably lends a great understanding to not only the mechanics of the game, but the balance, development process, and general ecosystem, regardless of how long you’ve been playing. It’s a computer game. It’s really not that complex.

  • @Marigoria said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1949146#Comment_1949146

You just asked in another thread if tunneling is bannable because you're a new player... why should I listen to your opinion about a game you are new at?

    edit: typo

Aha way to totally misrepresent what I asked as a cheap way out of the discussion.

I responded directly to a mod who said along the lines of “targeting another player multiple times is a bannable offence” and I asked for clarification on a very specific scenario whereby I’m defending a hook from multiple survivors who are trying to unhook directly in my face without borrowed time. Had absolutely nothing to do with camping.

Also just because I’m a new player doesn’t mean I don’t understand the game mechanics or haven’t been watching the very best players in the world for over 2 years.

It’s a discussion and there’s no reason to take a disagreement personally lol. But by all means be salty.

I’ll be the bigger man and say we agree to disagree. You think killers have the advantage. I think survivors have the advantage. You’ve given no real argument to support your position other than “at low ranks killers win more” and I’ve already answered that with a rebuttal which you’ve ignored.

    Moving on.

  • @Marigoria said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1949123#Comment_1949123

If solo Q has an advantage is why killer kill rates 70%?

The game is actually designed to punish bad survivors, why do you think killers dominate at rank 15-20?

Because even at red ranks most survivors are sort of bad at the game. If the game didn’t compensate, survivors would have no chance and the community would be even more inflammatory then it already is lol. The game needs to take into account that just one bad survivor can screw over their team, so it needs to alleviate this somewhat via various mechanics, thus when there’s actually a team where everyone is skilled, these compensations turn into advantages.

Last time I looked most killers were in the low to mid 50% but maybe that’s changed, it was a while ago, but it was only even that high because matchmaking is borked + most survivors even at red rank make many mistakes IMHO.

no, it would need to be targeting specific person/people over the course of several matches as the OP explained in their first post.

Alright good because the scenario I have has happened several times and I’ve only just started playing lol.

  • People need to bare in mind not everyone has been playing this game for thousands of hours, nor do they all watch YouTube videos or read guides. A new player could be “camping” or “tunnelling” out of sheer inexperience. The type of player who can give everyone a “fair experience” whilst still actually getting something out of it themselves is the type of player who has thousands of hours of experience.

Also bare in mind if the killer sees you all coming for the save he’s not just going to run to bend over and run to the other end of the map. The smart move would be to take advantage of the situation and find/down the rescuers and/or re-hook the sacrifice.

Sorry to hear you’ve had some bad experiences though. I get flamed a lot for “camping” or “tunnelling” when I’m simply defending the hook from the survivors who run right into my face and assume I’m just going to watch them unhook lol.

Sounds like you only play SWF. If you played solo Q, your opinion would be way different. Only underdog in this game is solo Q and low tier killers that have been forgotten almost since they were added. Not spirit.

Nah I play solo and view SWF as literally cheating as they use third party applications (discord) to bypass the intended mechanics of the game. Just being on voice comms gives everyone like 20 something perks for free lol. Imho of all things are equal skill-wise, survivors have an advantage even as solo queue. This is mainly because the game is designed to compensate for bad survivors, so if there are no bad survivors, it equals out to an advantage.

Steam usernames, just like nametags on console, are handled by their own platform, so if you think one is insulting, report them to Steam.

Regarding the rest, targeting is griefing, if someone is specifically targeting some players and they get reported multiple times with evidence, that can lead to a ban.

Can I get some clarification on this as a new player. If I have someone on hook and their team is silly enough to go for the save without borrowed time, right in front of me, so I defend and re-hook, then they do it yet again, so I repeat resulting in a kill, can I be banned for “targeting” or “tunnelling”?

  • Idk spirit seems like one of the harder killers to learn to play optimally vs decent opponents. Maybe that’s just because I don’t have headphones or stridor and usually have to play with my volume low lol.
