While playing yesterday and today I've noticed that my mmr hasn't raised or anything. For survivor, its a mixed bag but its relatively getting me in better matches. For killer however, I keep going against rank 20 over and over and over again. Its been like this be4 the announcement happened and its just getting real sick of versing rank 20s who dont even know how to run. Is there like a certain amount of matches until you get better players?
You need to ignore the ranks entireky and look at how the survivors play. Rank no longer matters at all when it comes to matchmaking

Thank you for telling me you're not considering a word I said beyond "power bar", I'll stop reading your post right when I read "I'm out"
That was the most important part of tge message so thats fine. Not every killer needs a power bar

I guess but his traps can be disarmed. I admit I do not have the hours in trapper yet, I have p3ed almost all my other killers so I am now p3ing the ones I didn't play much, like Trapper, Pig, etc,... but I have enjoyed the games I have played with him recently and stacked about 50 cakes on him so despite having quite a few hours, my 4d understanding of trapper is indeed limited, but I am starting to like playing him more. I have lots of hours as Hag so thats why I want clarification on why he doesnt start with all traps. Thanks for response.
Yeah but since they added in tge reset survivors disarming traps is almost whatever. Survivors disarm, you rearm it, they forget and get snapped. No biggie.
-
@DrDeepwound said:
Can anyone even provide a valid reason for him to not start out with ALL his traps?
Because hed be able to lock down a whole area in about 30 seconds if he could do that. Hed have you 3 genned before you even knew where 3 gens were. 2 to 3 traps at base is sufficient without being oppressive
-
@PassarinoT said:
I'm ngl, I think the devs should give him a new power. Still using beartraps, but something to make them:
a) easier to place
b) less fatal, but more useful during chases
My idea is give him a power bar that allows him to summon a trap in a spot and will consume half his power bar, then when a trap is disabled, the entity consumes it and gives him back like 1/3 his power bar. (power bar constantly refills at a slightly slow rate) Then, when a survivor is trapped, they have to succeed 3 skillchecks to escape it, then it is consumed by the entity and the survivor is free. This could possibly make it much easier for the trapper to place traps without consuming time and not have to walk all the way across the map. Very rough idea here.
As soon as you said power bar i was out. Hes the trapper. He places traps. He doesnt need a power bar as his ability is already limited by tge number of traps he has and how long it takes to place those. All he needs is for his traps to spawn slightly cliser together, allow him to carry 2 at base and buff the trap setting speed by a quarter to a half of a second. Thats it, hes golden.
-
I was on thee Game and it was a billy. I was working on a gen and kept missing skill checks. Then id hear the heart beat and crouch walk behind some boxes. Hed come look not see me leave and wed repeat the process. This happened 2 or 3 times before he finally looked behind the boxes and chainsawed me in the face.

True. Its always the medicore survivors that tbag the most.
I see so many run Blendette with sprint burst. They pick the character the killer wont spot, and if they do get caught they have a free escape. Its such a no skill playstyle yet they all think they’re gods.
Unless theyre also good in chase so when the killer does commit its a long one. Who wasted more of the killers time? The person the killer had to spend 20 seconds looking for, 15 seconds cstching up to because of sprintburst and then another 30 seconds in a few tiles, or tge guy that ran tge killer for 45 seconds?

I just realized bhvr is literally programming terminators...maybe we shouldnt encourage this 😬

You're correct that they said that camping and tunneling is acceptable when playing online. I'm just thinking of it from a designer point of view. If you were to create a killer bot for DBD, would you try to embed a code that guarantees the killer will always be mixing things up, or would you be comfortable with a bot that face camps every hook he/she makes, and/or tunneling every rescue? I would like to think that the devs would try to aim for the former.
Well, it might depend on the difficulty of the killer. Lets assume for a moment that they shoot for "Very difficult equivalent to legit r1 killer"
They would shoot for maximum efficiency in decision making. Great example:
Killer finds 2 survivors working on gen. 1 survivor is injured and was unhooked 45 seconds ago. Other survivor is uninjured and hasnt been hooked yet. The most efficient decision is to down the injured survivor, chase for no longer than 10 seconds and injure healthy survivor if possible, return to downed survivor and hook them.
According to survivor rule book this would be tunneling but its the best decision for that scenario.
Face camping is only efficient when things go very wrong early. Theres 1 gen left and youve only gotten 2 hooks and only removed a couple pallets. Yup, time to camp and hope for altruistic survivors.
Creating bots with this level of decision making would be extremely difficult and time consuming though, doubt it would be at that level

It'll certainly be interesting to see how a killer bot performs. They would clearly have to have something embedded in the code that would prevent things like camping and tunneling.
But even if it was a single player mode that only allowed you to play as the killer, I would be perfectly fine with that! It would give you an opportunity to test out a Killer's abilities without having to worry about competing against other people. But to keep incentivizing people to play online, it could be designed so that the only way you get bloodpoints is by playing in an online match.
The devs have said hundreds of times at this point that camping/tunneling is legitamate, why wouldnt they allow their bots to do this?

I have the same thoughts about it for the most part, although there are some very valid points out there. Namely:
- It's way harder to deal with solo where you can't ask the other people how many totems they did.
- The 'counter' to camping is to do gens and leave, but if you do that, you aren't cleansing totems and you risk a second person dying to NOED.
Granted neither of those are really unsolvable issues, the latter being fairly rare in my experience, but they are very fair points and I don't think they should be completely ignored just because you're alright with the way it works.
Give small game a totem counter that says how many more totems are left 😃
-
Honestly im suprised its a question, a God huntress is and always will be better than a God deathslinger
-
Eh, camping that first survivor for a whole minute seems like a waste of time. If the otger 3 are smart theyre working gens and can have 3 close to done. After that youre whole plans out the window.
-
I enjoy playing solo at r1 survivor. Ive escaped 3 out of 4 games today and only one of those was a mismatch 🤷♂️
I agree both moris znd keys need a rework.

It feels like new tinkerer is better than discordance. I got tinkerer right now on freddy so when it goes off i can teleport to the gen and get them off. What you guys think? (Also if a gens regressed by ruin below 70% will it warn you again?)
Yeah bbq, suirvallance, tinkerer and ruin would be pretty powerful combination.
BUT, dont discount that undetectable bit. On freddy run bbq, tinkerer, dark devotion and nemesis. It works now way better than youd think and its going to be even better when tinkerer is buffed

I mean youre right. But also wrong. Because of swf. They get super alteristic. I mean all 4 off gens to get the one guy off. Ive won a few red rank games because of this. To the point all are slugged and the guy barely got off hook. Its more or less a mind game at that point. You could let your friend die and win....or you could come rescue him and basically lose. With that being said. I don't camp. Just.. if i see you injuried or something, youre my side goal now. Makes sense?
While true that doesnt negate what Im saying. You see tbagger, you get angry, you make mistakes. Nothings 100%, it wont always work, but it does work.
And theres nothing wrong with camping when its necessary. If theres only 2 gens left and ive only gotten one hook they better be really good at being altruistic

Don't teabag unless you're actually good at the game, if you use god pallet or waste your dead hard or screw over your friends or go to a insane set up, don't teabag, you simply haven't earned the right to
You have to understand that this is a mind game. They want you to chase them so their team can do gens. If it pisses you off youre more likely to tunnel them and not think clearly letting the weaker players hold m1 on a gen. Even when they do it at the exit gates, theyre renforcing the "this action means you suck" so that in future games when you see someone do it your brain associates that action with an anger response causing you to make mistakes and tunnel the ones that are stronger in chase.
@Bullettimegod said:
O im the killer who if you teabag ill kill you and let the others go. Straight up.
Then youre letting them win. Thats what they want. 1k 3 escape is a loss for you. Im fine with it when im the only one that dies if i wasted that much of the killers time. Its a team game, not a 1v1.

@BigTimeGamer said:

Actually in this case that isnt true at all. He cant down you with FF, so saving that pallet for when hes actually trying to down you is a good thing.

I honestly think discordance is much better and consistent. The problem with whispers is that it tracks hooked and downed survivors, making it irrelevant mid and late game and only reliable on certain killers like pig. Whispers is usually much better at the start of the game than discordance. It allows you to save time, but after you get your first hook and start snowballing map pressure, it becomes useless. Besides maybe finding the last survivor, or tracking exit gates when hatch is closed. Discordance is good at the start of the game, but not as amazing as whispers, but it makes up for it later. Let's say I get into my first chase and I down a survivor, discordance activates when I down them, or when I'm about to down them. I will slug the survivor and pressure that gen, saving me precious time. I'm curious to hear other opinions on this, but for now I think discordance is superior.
It really depends on tge killer. Discordance is an amazing perk on Michael because it lets him stalk multiple people at once, whispers is better on doc because it ensures hes never going to miss a blast, just as a couple examples

@Mtom912 said:
tunneling may seem good in concept, but it actually is a terrible strategy, if a killer is tunneling a survivor off hook, that would also normally mean they are near the hook at all times, so they are not pressuring gens, that means the other 3 survivors can safely do gens, and 1 occasionally save while 2 continue to do gens, add in BT and DS that should be 5 gens done
Exactly.

@bubbabrotha said:
If you are playing to win, which I am, tunneling makes sense. By removing a link, you are making the rest of the survivors do more work, which makes patrolling gens more succesful. By tunneling someone out of the match you are making mid to late game much easier. I don't think it's the nicest strategy, but if you play to win that isn't an issue. I guarantee that person you refused to tunnel isn't going to care if you have fun, they want to win as well. It's a free for all. That's why I'm ok with scummy tactics on both sides. And I never play survivor. If you want to bodyblock, flashlight spam, or the like go ahead. We're all trying to win in the end.
That really depends on who youre tunneling and how good or bad the survivors are. You tunnel the wrong person youre #########. TARGETING and juggeling can be effective, but thats very different from hard tunneling.

@xenotimebong said:
Less “run around low wall safe loop until pallet is dropped” style looping is good in my opinion, more “whoever plays better wins” looping is what they should be aiming for. So no ultra safe, un-mindgameable pallets, no bloodlust, no killer powers that force holding W until you die. Unfortunately I don’t think Behaviour really know what kind of meta they’re creating, I think they just do stuff they think is cool and hope people like it.
Well what theyre doing is creating killers that require different strategies so when you go in as a survivor you have to actyally think and form a strategy. At its purest form some require you to be more stealthy whike some require you to be better at looping.
They do the same thing with maps by tge way. Some maps are buikt for stealth (swamp) some are built for looping.
When you couple these things together what you get is a fresh experience, provided you understand all of this of course.
For example you could cause serious issues for a deathslinger on swamp if you know what youre doing with stealth. Just like Azarovs is the bane of wraiths existence.
Add on to this killer add ons that change up their style of play a little and survivors that prefer one playstyle over another and matches become pretty interesting.

@Guiltron said:
He literally made a critical mistake the first minute of the match by committing to the dude holding W instead of patrolling.
Maybe, but what would have probably happened is that survivor he had been chasing would have simply gotten on a gen. If it was one that hadnt been started yet then 2 gens would have popped by the time he got his first down with another popping shortly after.
And is that really a good defense anyway? 1 mistake costs you the entire game? How many mistakes are those survivors allowed to have?
Sorry but this was a poor excuse

People can be good at poker with bad RNG because they are masters at bluffing. That doesn't apply whatsoever to DBD. If you get zero pallets on one side of the map, are you just gonna bluff that the pallets exist? If you get bad luck with teammates and one of them just dies in five seconds, are you gonna bluff their missing progress on a generator? Defining a win condition itself is still absurdly difficult due to the asymmetrical nature of the game where somehow both sides can technically win. They haven't done it yet because its extremely hard to do.
Well I agree theres more to it than poker, obviously. Bluffing isnt the only tool in poker either. Its about being able to read your opponent and figure out what they have and then playing them off their hand and what they think you have. Dbd at a high level is similar. What are the survivors doing, are they bunched up on 1 gen or are they split aceoss the map. Are they all really strong in chase or is there a weak link. If i chase this early pallet thrower through this strong area can i get the person thats strong in chase to run through that area once the pallets are gone?
And as far as bluffing is concerned, i bet you bluff and/or get bluffed at least 15 times in a given match and dont even realize youre doing it. T and L wall, survivor runs around the corner and you moonwalk backwards to catch them coming over the vault. You bluffed you were going one way and went the other. Did they call your bluff and keep running and not vault? Did they fall for it and catch a samurai sword to the face? So yes, theres a TON of bluffing in dbd
Teammate dying in 5 seconds is like getting a 7 - 2 off suit. Maybe you can still pull a win but the odds are not close to being in your favor. We can do this all day, theres a ton of similarities between these 2 games AFTER you learn and are consistent with the basics like landing hits consistently or looping properly.
Well they did define a win condition in the tutorials and yes there can be multiple winners. I agree doing that part is difficult, but not impossible. Survivor escape, killer kill 3k+. Bam. Win condition defined. Im not saying thats necessarily what it should be just that its not as complicated as people make it sound.
-
@SweetTerror said:
They already said that ranks don't mean anything, and it's not what matches you up with other players anymore.
Yeah but these are legit yellow and green ranks, you can tell by how they play. Im on xbox too and can confirm what op is saying

It amazes me you think spirit legion and ghostface require no skill at all. Its just factually incorrect. Spirit youre going to suck with if you dont understand tile routes, and you need to pay attention to a much higher level of detail than with other killers. Legion you have to be really good with splitting pressure and hitting people that are actually good at the game with feral frenzy. Ghostface, whether you approach him hit and run style or try and mark people both require different skills to do effectively.
No killer in this game requires no or even little skill to play effectively. You hand a brand new person Freddy or Myers and their going to get ######### on everytime by veterans

The only thing I wish is that they would increase her crouch movement speed. This becomes useless once gens begin to fly as you can only use it to save stacks on STBFL when chasing the obsession.
That and her teaps need to be a little more consistent. But shes underrated for sure rn.

It comes from the fact that restrictions are being placed on one side, and not the other. And that's unfair. Survivors would be voicing their opinions about it as well if the situation was reversed. It should be both or neither.
Well survivors should be able to switch their items based on what they see others running, but i agree it would be good if it locked them 30 seconds before it started so the killer can adjust their build if necessary. Tye change was made though so their can be killer specific skill rankings which I think is good. Theres no way for them to do killer specific matchmaking without locking you into tye kilker beforehand.

Not just because of the hatch. An MMR in a game based so heavily on RNG can't work, period. Scott explains why very well:
Poker proves that wrong. Poker is heavy rng, and yet there are people who are really good at it.
This is pretty simple actually. All they have to do is define a win condition for each side. Skilled players will meet that condition more often than than unskilled players. Just like good poker players win more hands than they lose. Then they just increase your skill rank based on whether or not you met that condition, they can also increase your rank more or less depending on the skill ranking of your opponent.
Dbd actually isnt all that disimilar to poker, as often youre playing your opponent against the hand your dealt. Thats where the skill in this game lies once you understand the tiles and strats
-
They already give shards, what more are you expecting?
