Wondering this too. I like the idea of killer ranks, but at same time, I gotta grind every killer to rank 1 every month?

Ranks aren't used for matchmaking.
Each killer has their own individual MMR rating. This will be hidden but used for matchmaking purposes.
Ranks for survivor and killers will remain the same.

the MMR is a behind the scenes value for each killer, your "rank" is now meaningless and unused in terms of matching, they will either remove the ranks or change them into a different system

Ranks will "dissappear" after the MMR update, theyll exist but wont be used for anything related to matchmaking, like Devotion levels right now.
Rank and MMR are not the same thing. Rank is global at least for now. If they do a Rank rework this might change.

Through you playing. As you play your MMR rating will update based upon performance. Say if you win seven matches in a row as Nurse then your nurse MMR Rating will have increased whilst your Trapper rating will not have changed at all.
Basically your 70 win streak with Forever Freddy + Ebony won't affect you trying to learn Pyramid Head now.
Ranks will be used for commemorative purposes until the devs add in Rank Rewards, which they stated interest in doing in the post.

They will be gone as a meter for deciding who you match with, they will still be there but with no function, like Devotion levels.

As far as I know there may be decay if you don't play in a while but yes, the MMR and Rank system will be completely separate. Ranks will still reset however this won't correlate with the matchmaking.
nice, well that seems logical and fine with me. I thought we would have to play each killer up each monthh, that would be too much, not to mention I play surv too LOL
The ranking system is different from the skill based ranking that theyre basing matchmaking on, you wont know your skill based rank. So youll keep your r1 but matchmaking isnt working off that.
