But breakout is really fun, any means is too..
Steve... well his perks are just fun.
The newer killer perks... what even are they i forgot I-
I main yui, have equipped her perks in matches and barely ever get use out of them, that's why I brought her up but I did say at the start of the discussion that i dont think any perks are useless, just more niche and situational and therefore as you said, very fun to use when they do get a chance
Tbh PH perks arent even awful, you have forced penamce as the niche one, deathbound will be a good information perk as not only are 2 survivors locations revealed but they're tied together as well unless they want to be risky with oblivious, will synergise well with nurses calling too.
Trial of Torment would be so much better if the yellow aura was removed which I honestly think it might be since enough people have complained about it consistently

Pyramid head, the hag (yeah, i dont like hex perks),deathslinger (well DMT could be good), spirit, huntress wanna have a talk with you too.
We'll allow ds, huntress, PH (to an extent) and also a lil Wraith but you can take the hag and spirit right out of the groupchat when at least 2 of their 3 perks are very common and quite good.
Ace and Ash are also looking to join in that case

@Snowstruck said:
It's mostly the killer perks they come out with that aren't great.
Steve and Yui have entered the chat
-
The game is in a relatively good place right now and most common complaints are often blown way out of proportion to the actual damage they do to the overall experience
-
No perk is useless, there are just perks that are niche or more situational which I think makes them most of the time more fun and satisfying to use, it'd be so boring to just have perks that are unconditionally great such as a lot of the meta, there's a lot less thrill or excitement with them and its fun to synergise with different niche perks.
That being said some perks could be adjusted ever so slightly to make them easier to activate such as autodidact (like slightly increasing skillcheck frequency)
-
I dont think i'd buff it but I would love the addition of a totem counter to the perk

I just got a 3k with blinkless nurse with only thrill of the hunt as the only perk
Oof...
Maybe its a good idea at this stage to just play your best to rank up as quick as possible and get out of the situation

M1 bubba if you have him
Nurse idea is better though

As survivor, you want to play with good survivors on high ranks, they have the necessary perks to survive. As killer, you want to play as much low ranks as possible, to have the highest chance of winning and not get sweaty.
I don't understand how that's a reponse to what I said?
And no I'd actual much rather play with mid ramk survivors to be honest because the vast majority of high rank survivors I play with are very unaltruistic and don't take many fun risks at all for fear of losing their rank I presume and that's fair enough if they want to play like that of course but I don't take the game and ranking as seriously so I don't enjoy it.
-
I'm rank 6 and honestly I admit that I shouldn't be there, I'm only there because of the amount of time I've been playing because of quarentine.
I'm not complete potato like your examples but it's more than I'm not good enough at running killer to be that high imo and at the same time there are people the same rank as me or higher who arent where they should be either (but also to be fair to them everyone has a bad match now and again)
Hopefully the new mmr system fixes this because I really shouldn't have to put effort into deranking myself if I want to be where I belong.
-
Yui as survivor because I like her aesthetic and she had badass vibes
I don't play killer that much but when i do I only ever seriously play wraith, he's power is incredibly easy to learn and as a very casual unskilled killer the stealth aspect is something I really need in the game. Downside is since he's the only killer I've ever spent bloodpoints on I have no good teachables :/
I have tried other killers but only for a handful of games at lvl 1 with no addons and the matches go about as well as you'd expect so I end up never wanting to play them again, at least for a long time.

I think that the devs need to give Legion a buff, and I have a really good idea for it. I think if the deep wound bar went down even if you are running, it would make a big difference, and would give a lot of extra pressure when in chases. Who agrees that this should be a thing?
This used to be a thing actually not too long ago when nemesis was introduced where the mend timer would go down when there was no terror radius, it was patched pretty quick by changing how mending timer worked so it wont be added in

Well, its a small skillcap, the torment trail is relatively balanced on its own, but in combination with his ranged attack that can down people just makes it an insane combo. And yeah, its been 2 hours so I cant fully judge him, but lets compare to deathslinger on release: deathslinger was called super weak by killers and super strong by survivors. As a split player, I thought he would be incredibly strong at first due to lack of counterplay. But on this one? I played him for a few minutes with a friend and its insanely easy to get a hit around loops. Like, imagine a Freddy, except instead of his traps slowing you down, they damage you.
In fairness I cant play pc so I'm judging off footage I've seen so far and I've seen both sides doing well and struggling. PH is VERY strong at hooks and saves as there's pretty much a guarenteed hit on one survivor at the very least but I've also seen survivors react very well to dodging his special so yeah I'd still stick with the mentality that it's too early to properly judge.
-
I think it could be balanced by how difficult it is to use his power, I thought he was very OP from his description but I honestly don't think so anymore, I really think we need to wait a longer amount of time until people get used to him to see where he is, he's only been out not even 2 hours now so you cant fairly judge him either way

@Bovinity said:
So does anyone else think that these things by themselves are a source of a lot of hostility and bad behavior?
Many of them just aren't realistic to do in a real game. At least not how you'd normally play. Killers end up having to camp or tunnel to secure the sillier ones, and many survivor ones are just improbable period without some kind of cooperation with the killer or screwing over your team.
They just don't seem very conducive to good gameplay experiences for one team or the other, just degenerate nonsense for the sake of something ridiculous.
I completly agree that some of the challenges can encourage bad manners and the like.
Ones where you have to get a certain amount of pallet stuns in a single match encourages unneccesarily wasting pallets which is very unfair to teammates. There's also one where you've to kill a certain amount of survivors and I recently had a game with a billy that slugged everyone the whole game, literally every time people were downed and tried to let them bleed out and the only valid explanation I can think of for this is this challenge.
There was also a challenge before to escape through the hatch which is obviously going to encourage survivors to be a lot less altruistic and a lot more selfish and actually hope for your teammates to die in the match and camp hatch.
That being said, I would still be reluctant to take some of these challenges out because I find the boring challenes like complete 25 gens just as bad
-
@WRussoW said:
If you're a smart killer with good mobility (aka the Spirit, the Hillbilly, etc) and you kill some survivors before the hatch spawns and you want to get a 4k, you'd let survivors fix gens until it spawns, find it and then kill the rest of the team. Unless survivors have a key, they don't have a chance to escape in this scenario. If they refuse to fix gens, a killer may just wait until they fix gens or wait until both survivors appear at one spot.
The devs have stated that a last survivor always has at least a chance to escape solely but the whole mechanic makes this statement straight up a lie.
Yeah I forgot that pretty much 99% of players do this and it is a core issue and noone ever gets hatch escapes, therefore we should reshape the concept of hatches around this exact claim. Thanks for reminding me

Why is there the type of people that haft to be toxic and say they aren't toxic at all. 3 survivors had at least 15k points which is nothing I was huntress with irid head and still lost because I was genrushed and 2 hooked everyone and at the end of the game am getting treated like garbage for no reason at all. Saying I am toxic for using those addons. I told them it's in the game I can use it, because it is in the game there should not be a problem using something the devs put in for a reason at all. Just hurts to see people be so mean for no reason at all and accuse me for being toxic. :(
"They gen rushed me" doing gens is in the game there should be no problem at all doing something the devs allow in a game.
It's literally the survivors objective what are they supposed to do, run around the map and just look for totems without touching a gen? And you also said they got 2 hooked each so I doubt genrush.
Honestly just don't mind them in egc, their choice to waster their lives acting like that, it's not as if iri are common at all in games and if you have them you may as well use them, Ignore chat and leave if theyre like that and it literally can't affect you.

Very interesting idea! I was actually going to use dbd for an altruism experiment for my bio mode at the beginning of the year to investigate influences on reciprocal altruism etc but it was only for one sf lab report, the word count was too low to explain the experiment well and it was a pair project with a friend who doesnt play dbd so I just couldn't, looking forward to seeing your results!

Maybe the fact that any non-SWF will get destroyed versus a camping Bubba is evidence enough? Camping killers need to be punished by SLOWING the hooked survivor’s death timer when the killer isn’t in chase. That way camping becomes MUCH LESS viable.
I think this is the best way to address face camping tbh. If it's implemented though it has to be a core mechanic and not a perk which I feel might be seen as an option by devs

Didn't watch the otz video, but what makes camping 'successful' for killers are the hero survivors that throw the game to save that person. Think of it like this, the killer is handing you 3/6th of survivor objective by hanging out by the hook for 2 minutes.
If everyone stopped feeding themselves to the camper, it would stop being such an issue.
Very true about feeding but i get survivors will still do it because the game becomes so so boring so quickly if its just gens gens gens out, there's no rush or excitemnt from the killer and its very satisfuing getting someone out, even if it is just a one for one. Even now I would 100% still go for teammate as long as I had borrowed time than do gens

The problem was left with the strength of Camping and more the fact that the survivors fed into it when you have someone with the skill level of Otz all it takes is a little bit of feeding and you could practically end up with an easy win wealth against more average Killers a little bit of feeding isn't going to do that much
Yeah i acknowledged otz's skill level in my post.

Umm... If you get mad because you got facecamped in a dbd match don't send these types of comments like honestly but just a little thing I wanted to vent.
Honestly those people are so sad.
I don't know what age your brother is but my little brother is 12 and plays dbd and obviously isn't going to be super aware of all these unofficial rules that everyone gets mad over, I think people in this community forget that even though the game is 18s, people of all ages are playing and maybe they should just get on with their lives and move on to the next match rather than waste your time trashing some random person youll never meet again because you're salty you lost this match.

Rank 20 killer with 1 perk on level 1 and no add-ons got 2 kills on a screen, survivor ranks were much higher. Ranks differ killer, not survivors.
Yes because one screenshot proves that? Survivor skill definitely does differ with rank, what you're basically saying is that 4 rank 20 survivors should hypothetically do just as well as 4 rank 1 survivors against a red rank killer? There are obviously going to be exceptions like good players who haven't played in a while and have been ranked down and the like but there is no way you can just outright say that in general, survivors of any rank all perform the same.
Also in the screenshot you can see that it's only the two red rank killers who survived.

They do a lot of changes to balance the game, e.g. perks and mapchanges, but the biggest problem is this unfair matchmaking every game. Why the devs don‘t see this mainissue?? Or why they can‘t fix it for month? Here only one example, but I think all player know it...
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/717/E76AB559-5124-445E-ADA7-6190754BC4DA.jpeg
They are going to address it with a new mmr system, I completely agree though that it's a mess right now, yesterday I was in a survivor team with ranks 2,9,12 and 20 (can't remember killer rank but I do have a screenshot saved because it was so ridiculous)
A lot of people argue that rank means nothing in terms of skill level but there is a very very big difference between a rank 20 vs 12 vs 2.
-
Not a build but perks that i think are particularly good for solo queue are kindred, bond, inner strength/resilience both for if you have no one around to heal you but not used together (i usually bring a medkit though instead of inner strength if I want to run something else), better together paired with prove thyself.
-
@OracleOfFilm said:
Is it just me or are the wait times to play survivor taking forever?
If I want to play a killer, I am starting the game instantly but I am often queued for a long while when I am a survivor. Surely, as you need four survivors ready to get a game as a killer, it should be the other way around.
They always get so so bad late chapter. I'm ps4 and I only really play survivor except for tome challenges and I literally got 2 games done in 45 minutes because the wait times were so bad. I love this game but you waste so much time waiting for matches it's usually not worth it

Therefore you believe "BHVR don't balance their game with SWFs on comms..."
Welcome to the world of BHVR don't care about you, have you thought about playing survivor or civ?
Honestly if you think BHVR don't care about or listen to their player base there is absolutely no reason to give any validity to any statement you make about them or how they work the game.
They are by far one of the most interactive, communicative and responsive game developer groups in the industry, constantly looking for and addresssing feedback and issues. Not only that but they are extremely generous with their content, all original characters and the vast majority of cosmetics can be bought with in game currency that is very easy to save up and even with licensed characters, their perks are still available to buy with iridescents in the shrine. You'd be hard pressed to find many games on par with this.

Basically this. Personally I would revert the roles - Killer looking at Survivor-->Killer sees Survivor (OoO lights up). Both looking at each other-->Both see each other. Survivor looking at Killer-->Survivor does not see anything.
Currently it is the other way around, which gives OoO the Benefit that the Survivor will always see the Killer but not vice-versa.
In the end, the Survivor is the "Object", so they should have the higher risk. Would this destroy the Perk? Potentially, but it should not exist in the first place, IMO.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1282924#Comment_1282924
Your Obsession with SWF is laughable. OoO is a problem in Solo as well. Granted, it does more in SWF, but it is also strong as Solo.
May as well be a killer perk with those adjistments tbh, the survivor os looking at killer but it doesn't show killer but the opposite works vice versa?
I think the only adjustments that should be made are that it shouldnt light up for any killer that's undetectable, that's very very unfair since the whole point of the perk is that its is very high risk high reward.
-
The problem is that that statement isn't entirely true either about it being balanced for survivor, it's very easy to just win the game by camping.
Otzdarva recently did an experiment on this, it was initially meant to be about noed and proving how easy it was to win the game by doing the laziest strategy possible: camp hooks and then endgame with noed. The problem in the first few games was that the camping strategy was so effective that a lot of times the game didnt even make it to the stage where noed came into play and he ended up having to drop the pure camping aspect of his trials to start to prove anything about noed.
I understand that 1)Otz's killer skill isn't representitive of the whole killer base for downing survivors to camp in the first place and 2) killers are still punished for hook proximity and 3) there is a lot of variation between games but the fact that camping made it so consistently easy to get 3-4k every match in the first place with very little if any other actions says something about how balanced it can be.
That being said I know it's a hard gameplay issue to address because there's no mechanic you can really implement to prevent it that wouldn't be completely unfair to all killers in general and it's not fair to punish killers for the actions of a portion of the playerbase either

And you think anyone will have any sympathy for you with an attitude like that?
Yeah it sucks that that happened but how do you address a perk like that as a whole when its not common occurrence even? Also killer sweat for a 4k? Thats literally THEIR GOAL and how were they supposed to cop for sure that your teammate had bond.
Literally get over yourself and move on to the next match, its not ruining every game.

My bad using a cellphone and auto correct messed it up. I was saying what about party chat and discord. I don't see why bhvr should take away man power from bug fixes and updates to put in a comms system most people won't use.
Don't get me wrong it is something that I have thought about as well. I think the killer should be able to hear what the survivors are saying in they are in the proximity. I think the amount of toxicity that would stem from this would be outrageous and only make this game even more toxic than it already is.
Completely agree, I love the idea it's just a shame that parts of the community are so bad that it wouldn't work so well overall. It's really disappointing when you see that the community's immediate response to suggesting a communication feature like this is that it could be so toxic, especially when they're absolutely right.
I love love love the idea of killer hearing proximity chat as well, I know it would make toxicity worse and would completely remove the horror aspects but the concept is so funny

Yes this problem has been mentioned about 3 or 4 times above and I've addressed it with the feature of course being optional.
I'm not sure what you mean by your last sentance but this is aimed at solos, swf will still use discord regardless so it wont affect them, theyll still use discord because there would be a very limited range in the in game voice chat

I just had a look at it and it looks very similar to the symbol whell I suggested above if that's right? I think that'd be a great idea, I thought you meant typing as in keyboard which wouldnt work cross platform
-
There are also the games where lag is so bad the match is literally LITERALLY unplayable. Got m1'd by a huntress yesterday and even she didn't know where I ended up to the point that I almost got to use unbreakable before she found me. When it takes so long to find matches and you can't do any part of a match and you are not enjoying any part of the game by no fault of any of the players, it's not fair to force someone to stay in the match and penalise like that
-
@Waffleyumboy said:

Although it wouldn't bother me, proximity voice chat would just lead to massive toxicity and audio bullying towards killer and survivors.
Also, as someone else pointed out, it does kind of kill the atmosphere. Minus the pregame lobby, when does anyone speak? Survivor or killer? It's a game of few words and i feel like that is a big part of this game's charm.
Atmosphere wasn't actually something I considered that's a good point.
Maybe the small range could help with that and of course just disabling completely if you don't want to. The toxicity thing was the BIGGEST con I had in my head when making the post because knowing some of the community I feel like that'd be pretty common. I play ps4 so i dont have a lobby chat at all btw
-
@Huff said:
I'll say the same thing I say about any other voice chat thread: It might be cool just to pacify some of the people that are complaining about SWF being too OP compared to solo or killer or whatever, but I only think it would be a good idea if there was an option to opt out.
I don't want to have to deal with some 16 year old squirt acting like hes 9 and just figured out how to cuss, fresh out of the CoD scene, yapping my ear off while I'm trying to play. Or some person thinking they're hot stuff blasting their rap music over their mic while I'm trying to listen to the damn game.
Also, 2 or 3 meter distance is insanely tiny and the feature would practically be nonexistent at that point. You'd have to be doing ASMR whispering into each others ears. Even Dwight's Prove Thyself perk has a range of like 4 meters, and it only really works if you're sitting on a generator right next to another survivor.
I've mentioned a few times here that it would have to be on the condition you can disable it of course, a lot of people seem to miss where i say that though dw
The small range is to limit it to have some balance, I don't mean for it to be on a swf level at all because that would't be fair, I just mean it for situations like the examples I mentioned like if two survivors are going for a hooked survivor and one has bt, even someone saying theyll try flashlight save
I think it's hard to tell what effect it would have on gameplay though unless it can be tested unfortunately, I love the idea though

Then we still have the same old issue of a disadvantage over swf + majority really doesn't want to talk to random kids. Imo text chat should be the only thing added
Text chat would never work well especially across all platforms, swf will always have the benefit over solos thats unavoidable, its more about closing how big that advantage gap is without simultaneously comprimising the experience of the player which i get is very difficult to do.
I agree that people wouldnt want to chat with random kids so as i said above, it would be optional, it all about having that balancing option available in the first place

Simple things like "Need Help!" or "Killer on me" would be nice but telling perks could be troublesome, how many perks would need to be informed ?
How to implement so many of them without taking too long to choose that people waste time, or implement too little that you can't talk properly.
I get that being able to say "I'll rescue him I have BT/We'll make it" or "Don't worry I have DS" but that could cause some troubles with that idea.
Definitely and i realised that as I was typing my responses that yeah okay if two people are going for an unhook and one person can say they have bt, that still means that there are at least 2 survivors in the area that are at risk to the killer but then I realised what's to stop survivors from just meeting up at the start of the matching and share perk info in advance to avoid that risk situation completly?
So yeah that could end up being completely unfair, maybe be able to assign text or symbols to the directional buttons on a controller or unused keys like a hook for "I'll save" or an exclamation point etc,
I think this would be okay as long as you could make notification silent, their animation is very short and out of the way, there's a restriction so you can't spam/over use them, and that they don't actually reveal the location of the survivor when they are use (otherwise it would make perks like bond, empathy etc obsolete and also just be too unfair on killer)
