    That's weird.

What version of Proton do you have selected?

Are you sure the PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME variable points to the right place?

Have you tried "Force update" and retry multiple times?

This is a regression if you've gotten the missing hashfile error. You've already gotten past this point before. We just need to figure out why it's not working now.

I have GE-Proton7-31 selected. It's the only one I have, other than the default, whichI'm pretty certain the PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME variable is pointing to the right place.

    Should be an easy fix.

Do you see the little EAC popup with the little blue loading bar before DBD proper starts? If not, you need to make sure the PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME or whatever it was is set correctly.

If so, good; EAC was properly set up. Just go to "Force update if necessary" and relaunch. If that fails, try "Verify..." and then relaunch. The former is more likely to help than the latter, and the latter takes 10 minutes-ish to work, so try the former first.

If you've gotten the missing hashfile error, I'm assuming that it was indeed set up correctly to begin with, and all you have to do is click that button and you'll get to the menu (assuming all of the necessary files were copied).

That's also what I meant when I said that using the installer via Lutris doesn't work. If you get that error on Heroic and EAC is set up correctly, "Force update if available" fixes it. Lutris's Epic launcher has no such option.

This error has nothing to do with the files you copied, for the record, and you probably would have gotten it the next time you started it up regardless. I always, ALWAYS get this error the second time I launch the game after installing, but never the first. YMMV.

I do see the EAC popup, and I tried the force update, but still get the "EAC client cannot be instantiated" error. When I tried the verify and repair thing, nothing seems to happen.

  • Well, I've copied everything over, nothing overwritten, and it still says "EAC cannot be instantiated." So I'm completely lost on where it went wrong...

Yes, you need both the Steam and Epic versions installed. You can uninstall the Steam version once you've got Epic working, but I keep them both installed so I don't need to redownload the Steam version every time there's an update.

Yeah, the post in question wasn't very clear at all, and it wasn't in the original instructions.

You still need to add the PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME enviroment variable, and then you need to take the EasyAntiCheat folder from the root of the Steam version and copy it to the Engine/Binaries/EGS subfolder in the EGS version (so they're in different locations

Also, the missing files referred to here

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3316577#Comment_3316577

after doing some testing might be like 70 or something. To prevent anyone from having to boot the game up that many times, copy the following folders from Steam to EGS (unlike above, these are placed in the exact same location in both folders):

    DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries/Win64/

    DeadByDaylight/Engine/Binaries/Win64/

    DeadByDaylight/Engine/Plugins/Experimental/

    Dead by Daylight/Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/CEF3

Dead by Daylight/Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/ - there are threeish more folders here that already exist in Steam, but don't in EGS; compare the two and copy the ones that don't already exist

I'm going by memory here, but I think that's largely correct. If I did miss something, wait for the error message and just copy whatever folder the file is in that it's complaining about. But at least this way you can deal with one or two error messages instead of 70-something.

While I'm waiting for DBD to install on Steam, are these folders easy to locate? And will we have to do all these steps every time the game updates? Because it updates quite often, and if we have to keep doing this every time, it may not be worth it... 🙁

    Oh, and I missed this.

You didn't copy the EasyAntiCheat folder from the Steam version to the Epic version correctly. There's a post about this somewhere above. Take the EasyAntiCheat folder from the Steam version and copy it to the Engine/Binaries/EGS subfolder (or something like that) in the EGS folder.

I didn't find the post you're referring to, but it sounds different from the one I followed. I had tried to point to the Proton EAC Runtime itself, so I thought they may have been the problem, so I just pointed to the folder it was in. Then I just get "EAC Client Cannot Be Initiated" or something.

So in order to copy the EAC folder from the Steam version to the Epic version, does that mean I would have to install the Steam version of the game?

  • As additional info, the game tells me, "Easy Anti-Cheat Hash Catalogue not found."

  • Well, I can't get it working. I get the error "EAC has detected that game files have been modified (error code 1)."

I've tried forcing the update and verifying and repairing, but neither worked. :(

  • Yeah, hard no. If the slugged survivor can't recover, then they won't be able to do anything...except DC. And there are enough people complaining about that as it is.

  • At least you can do cross progression with Epic iirc. I just need to read up on how to do it...

  • Okay, that fixed it. I can use the controller in matches now. It's so good. 😁

  • Honestly, I think Plunderer's Instinct should give faster chest unlocking times instead of Pharmacy. Idk how much faster, but just a little faster than normal...

  • My main is Dwight. I first started playing in the summer of last year, just before the 5th anniversary event. At first I started playing him because he was the default guy, and I had no particular opinion on him or any of the others. I stuck with him because I felt for him after reading his lore. And then, after they did the texture rework on him, he became a lot more attractive. Then, while looking for dark cosmetics for him (to make it harder for killers to see him), I got the Black Coffee cosmetic, which looks so sexy on him. So I kept playing him more and got even more attached to him.

Now I can't wait to get all survivors to P9 so that I can get back to playing with Dwight and get him to P100.

  • I'd rather not go through the grind to prestige everyone to 100, because that would take FOREVER, especially with new characters coming out on a consistent basis. I'll just want to do so for my one main survivor who deserves all the love after getting everyone to P9 to unlock all the rewards.

They do not grant BP, but should not have the problem of game breaking.

It gives us the ability to temporarily switch off any items/offerings/maps/cosmetics/characters that are causing game breaking issues in the game, to ensure continued enjoyment.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3226131#Comment_3226131

it's when something is considered to be game breaking.

Flashbang that stacks two and Huntress Lullaby that was not working, devs did not killswitch.

    There is no "consistency".

They fixed the flashbang bug with this latest patch. I didn't know about Huntress Lullaby, so idk if it's fixed ornot...

  • People talk like DC'ing is a bad thing, but they also want a button to surrender. How is that different?

  • Since I'm on a mission to prestige every survivor to P9, I kind of have to play with them all until that point. But my least faves would be Nea, Jane, Jeff, Bill...

But are we talking about who's hot as well? Then it's Dwight. Dwight is definitely hot. XD

  • Strange, I haven't had a single player DC in any of my games this morning...

Not saying it doesn't or won't happen, but I'll keep my eyes open and see how interesting the match gets when it does...

  • @IanOromis said:

Just to add to this: this will become an incentive to actually play different characters. My friend is a perfect example. He had no other reason than to play Nea because he didn't care for any of the other cosmetics. He didn't bother to buy any other character with real money because she just had so much stuff, he wouldn't play them anyways. When Felix got the RE outfit, he liked it and bought it, but is just stuck playing Nea until he's done using up all the bloodpoint offerings on her, while spending BP on Felix. Again, just an example, but I'm sure there are more people out there in similar situations.

I think the current separate inventories are actually meant to incentivize playing different characters. In the above case, once Nea runs out of bp offerings, then Felix will have enough stuff to play with him.

I'd definitely support the idea of a shared pool because I'm currently grinding the Survivor roster to P3, then I'll go to P6, and then P9 with all of them. I'd have to use the character I'm currently leveling to avoid spending all of their items. Meanwhile, I feel like I can't play with my main (Dwight) because I don't want to use up all his items and don't want to spend bp on him while I'm leveling other characters. With a shared pool, I can keep using Dwight while leveling everyone else.

  • Yeah, I think the killer should get the choice as well. I think some of the most epic interactions happen in the endgame between the killer and the last survivor, whether the killer chooses to give hatch or not. I'm almost tempted to put together a video compilation of such interactions that I've experienced. XD

  • I like this idea as well. Though if the Killer chooses the mercy option, maybe have them see the hatch aura rather than being teleported directly to it? That way they can easily carry the helpless Survivor to it. I just think it's more..."romantic" that way, especially if it's Huntress and Dwight. XD

  • Having a daily reset would be useless, because there's no way anyone can earn enough shards within 24 hours (unless you play 24 hours a day, maybe?)

I do like the idea of not having base game character perks in the shrine, though.

  • With my mmr being in the pits, the three main problems I experience are me failing to loop, one or more teammates doing nothing, or killers tunneling. The first one is definitely a skill issue. The other two are neither skill nor game issues... 😕

  • Since I don't main killer, I don't sweat for kills when I do play killer. Usually when they get the five gens done I just let them all go. Even when I do succeed in getting a kill, I actually feel bad about it. That's how you know the killer role isn't for me.

Whenever a killer spares me, I'm usually curious as to why, but I've only been informed a few times on why they did so. I had one who told me it was because I tried pulling the exit gate switch after I wiggled off (the hatch had already been closed). I had another who told me it was because I ran them around the most. But most of the other cases, I'll never know...

  • I love the charms (except all those color variants from the rifts, they're so redundant). They're so...charming, lol. I've actually wished that the killers could wear them like the survivors do.

  • I could be wrong on this, but I heard the reason they're priced like that is because they owe a certain amount to the company they're licensed from (in this case, Capcom).

  • @MsSaltyGiggles said:

Knockout is one of the strongest slugging perks in the game. When I've went against a killer with knockout 9/10 they are slugging with it. They'll slowly hit you down over and over to drain your blood. Now, all in all, this perk is not even used that much. So why the nerf you ask? Well, when it is used it's a bit #########. I don't want to lay on the ground the whole match and bleed out. Knockout will hide your downed body to other survivors, so they will have trouble locating you...in solo queue most won't even look for you...at least not for awhile (rare).

My suggestions for this change: similar to the NOED nerf. I would like to see knockout show you the aura of the downed survivor once you get into a certain range of them. This range would increase over time the longer the survivor is slugged on the ground.

    Thoughts?

But you can already see the aura of downed survivors when you get into a certain range of them (16 meters, I believe?) But yeah, I agree it's horrible for solo queue players, and I DC from any match where a killer just wants to slug and never hook.

  • No no no, leave it as is. The infection doesn't take that long to get maxed out (maybe 30-45 seconds?) so using the sprays is absolutely necessary. As one person pointed out, the permanent hinderance would be too crippling, and taking away half of the sprays would be too nasty overall.

  • Yeeeaaah, it's already hard enough for the last survivor as it is. There are only two gates for the killer to patrol in endgame, and they can always see the auras, so they don't need any more information...

I tried for a while with remote play but the inconsistent latency made skill checks impossible to predict, on top of just the general added latency making it so I have to hit skill checks extra early. So I'm worried playing like that will just make it harder to switch back to non-remote play, and also makes all my teammates hate me.

Oh yeah, I have the same problem with playing on the Nintendo Switch via the Elgato Stream Deck + OBS, regarding input latency and skill checks. It's really insufferable at times...

  • If I suicide, it's typically on second hook under the conditions...

    • If we're still at 4 or 5 gens
    • If I'm very clearly being tunneled
    • If the teammates screw me over
    • If the killer runs Devour Hope or Third Seal (unless they're broken early)
    • If it's a Huntress with the iridescent hatchet head add-on
    • If my internet lags
    • If I'm trying to give hatch to the last remaining teammate

DC's or first hook suicides are rare, but they'll happen if...

    • I screw up REALLY badly and end up in the basement at the start of the match
    • I get hooked in basement by a Trapper or Hag
    • I'm slugged and the killer refuses to hook me
    • It's near the end of the game and no one left to save me, or I'm trying to give hatch
  • Yeah, it is way too risky to try endgame saves, especially if the killer is camping. I had a Nemesis match recently where he camped me in the endgame. The teammates came to save me, but of course one of them went down in the process. The other teammates then went to save that person, but again, another one went down while saving them. Rinse and repeat the hook trades until they all died, leaving me to escape alone. Needless to say, I felt pretty awful. Made me wish I had just killed myself on hook so they could escape rather than killing themselves trying to save me...

  • Yes, I think the skill checks should continue as normal when Reassurance is activated, but the timer would still be paused.

  • I also thought the challenge layout was a little weird for this level. I wish the Jonah challenge could at least connect to the one right above it so I can skip the "Blind the killer 6 times challenge," because I cannot even get one blind to save my life. So now I'm forced to do some of the killer challenges to get around it. Swapping the Claudette and Nurse challenges would provide a workaround, too.

  • Just going to add my voice to the crowd, as I'm expecting to get my Steam Deck soon-ish. I am curious, if the game can be played via Remote Play if it won't work on the Deck itself. That's something I plan to experiment with once I get it.

Grinding on the Steam version is daunting enough; I really don't want to do the entire grind on the Nintendo Switch version, too. Playing on the Switch can be insufferable, through Elgato and OBS due to input lag, and in handheld mode due to everything being too dark to see anything. So being able to play my main account on the go would be awesome. XD

  • I have felt the same gripes about survivor, topped with the fact that all the Daily Rituals I get are for killers. :/

  • BBQ still gives the same information it did before the 6.1.0 patch. And despite the BP bonus removal, I still see a lot of killers using it. It's still a useful perk, and still gives you information to pursue the next survivor after hooking someone.

  • The different tier level perks also throw me off, despite knowing how they're listed (Tier III alphabetical, then tier II alphabetical, then tier I alphabetical). It would be easier if they were all listed alphabetically by name, regardless of tier.

  • It'd be cool if you could trade items with teammates in the pre-game lobby. I'd happily trade all my flashlights for medkits. XD

  • Myers, Hag, Clown, Trapper...

Hag tops that list though. Haaaate the Hag... 😠

  • This is why I like how the lower level bloodwebs are really small, and you don't get a lot of higher rarity items and stuff, because it's cheaper.

  • At least the team earned more bloodpoints so they can buy more goodies.

  • We've seen countless discussions on how to address camping, and with all the downsides to all the suggestions brought up, it makes me think that there really isn't a way to address it. They could just delete the Insidious perk, but that isn't going to stop the killer from camping.

Many people have also pointed out that "just doing gens" isn't really as punishing now with the base gen repair speed nerf, thus making camping more effective than before.

I went against a camping Trapper the other day, and of course the other teammates tried to save the hooked person, and eventually got killed in the process. I just stayed away and shook my head, realizing that it was pointless to try doing gens. I would have made it out if the killer didn't have effing NOED on top of that...

  • Had a pretty bad oops moment the other day. Artist was chasing me through RPD, and I ran past Feng Min who was healing herself. (I didn't know she was there.) Then Artist downed her. She was on death hook, too.

    #feelsbadman

  • Yeah, better let someone with the BT perk save you from basement.

  • Whoops, that's what I get for doing it on mobile. It should be fixed now. I tried to edit my previous post, but apparently in this forum, "edit" means "delete." 😕

Uhhhh devs don't want end game to be killer sided? They disabled DS & OTR In end game just so it was killer sided?

Because having DS and OTR made it too survivor-sided in endgame. They were practically guaranteed the escape with those perks, so they were disabled for endgame.

On the other hand, they nerfed NOED, making the totem easier for survivors to find, so the killer isn't guaranteed the endgame kills either.

  • This is what the endgame collapse is here for. All of those suggestions would make the endgame killer-sided, and the devs have said they don't want the endgame to be killer- or survivor-sided.

I do agree with the "just leave" sentiment though. I went against a Hillbilly the other day, and what could have been a four-person escape turned into a two-person escape, because three of us stood in the exit area. Hillbilly flew in with his chainsaw and downed Yoichi and Rancor-mori'd him. Two of us fled while Felix sat by the hatch self-caring as the timer counted down, and then the Entity got him right on top of the hatch.

All because they wouldn't just leave.

  • I say don't punish hook suicides. Why? Because, like camping and tunneling, there are times when hook suicide is a valid strategy, such as when you want to give hatch to your last teammate.

It's also not fair to punish people who get frustrated when they, say, get tunneled, for instance. I'm thoroughly convinced that killers are going to camp and tunnel, regardless of what the devs do to punish or deincentivize it. Perks like BT, DS, or OTR don't stop tunneling; they only delay the inevitable by a very small margin (and the killer buffs and survivor nerfs only made it worse). The only real way to counter tunneling is to remove yourself from the match before the killer does, whether by DCing or suiciding on hook.

"But that would screw over your teammates!"

Would it, though? If the teammates have to get off gens to save me from the hook YET AGAIN, I feel more like a hinderance than a helpful teammate. I got tunneled by a Huntress this morning, and I DC'd on my second down. I spectated the teammates afterwards, and they did just fine without me, if not better. They still lost in the end, but I highly doubt the outcome would have been different even if I had stuck it out to my last hook (which wouldn't have taken long at all).

"You just need to git gud."

It's funny how people say that like it's that easy. It's true that my looping skills leave a lot to be desired, but I have played for just over a year, I've watched video guides on how to loop, and have practiced with a few friends (sadly that was many months ago and currently don't have anyone to practice with). How much longer will it take me to "git gud?"

  • I don't understand how the "wheel of text messages" would work, especially if a Survivor is in chase. They're not going to be able to use the wheel while they're being chased, where there's already very little, if any room for error.
