People are seriously out there acting like camping is some sort of crime and not a strategy.

They say things like "this change is an abuse prevention system" and don't want to call it for what it is... a major nerf to all killers accross the board.

Meanwhile when they use their newly acquired "built-in endurance from unhook" to body block for their healthy rescuer... then immediatly end up on the hook again... they cry "foul play! Killer is tunneling, it's unfair!"

Yeah no, I disagree. Let the healthy survivor do the body block or die.

All those freebies given to survivors lately only makes the game worst in every possible way.

These survivors need to learn how to loop, not "get out of jail free" cards.

If you end up on a hook... look in the mirror, it means you messed up somewhere.

Yeah, a "strategy" that involves not playing the game, going afk while the remaining survivors finish the gens, and then they cry about gen rushing and not being able to get kills. Killer logic is truly baffling...

My post isn't arguing against the change though. I'm saying that killers need a buff to offset the nerf if it does come through.

If the devs gave a buff to offset the camping nerf, that would completely defeat the purpose of the camping nerf. The devs don't need to compensate for it, that's up to you to do. And that's as easy as chasing another survivor.

  • "Currently, SWF can communicate to the other members "hey killer is camping - everyone keep doing their generators." Solo-queue players right now have no method of communicating that to the other survivors. Due to this, the new upcoming anti-facing camping mechanic would widen the informational gap between SWFs and solo-queue even more."

^ This is why I always run Kindred, so I can see the Killer facecamping, and see where the teammates are so I'll know whether I need to make the save or not. Or if I'm the one being camped, the teammates will see that as well thanks to my Kindred.

  • Or at least make the hatch offerings secret so that only you know where the hatch will spawn.

  • How do you even get the charms? I got the patch and see the new outfits in store, but I don't see any charms or any codes to redeem them or anything...

  • Gen rushing isn't a problem. Do you know why? Because 90% of the time, gen rushing leads to three-genning. At that point, the killer wins.

  • I think this would make the hatch harder to find, because when you start hearing that sound, you won't know how far it is (or it'll be farther away than you think).

Or it would make it easier for the killer to find, which they usually find it first 90% of the time as it is. This is the same reason I don't like hatch offerings, because it also tells the killer where the hatch will be.

  • Yeah, I prefer these kinds of challenges over the ones that require you to throw and/or screw things up for your teammates (i.e. "Hide within 10 meters of the Killer without being caught for XX seconds." Even worse when it has to be done in a single trial...

When I play killer I will mentally pick one survivor that gave me best chase. If said survivor ends up on a hook and gets unhooked, I will give him hatch. If his teammates won't unhook him, I will kill them all. Sometimes (but it's rare) I will hint to standing survivor (after basically winning the chase) to unhook my designated survivor and then kill rescuer (if he does not, everyone dies). So maybe if I was your killer spirit - then this would be the explenation 🙂

For a moment, I thought your name looked familiar; I had to go check that match to see if it was you. That doesn't appear to be the case, though, unless you use a different name in game?

  • I don't think it needs to be removed, and we already have the option to disable it if it's that bad. (Just click on the speech bubble next to that little box where we type.)

  • I've had one match that sounds similar, but a bit different from the scenario. I was up against a Spirit, two teammates were dead, I was on death hook, and Leon hadn't been hooked at all. Spirit eventually found and hooked him. I saved him from first hook, but he soon got hooked again. Spirit followed me to hook. Granted, I didn't notice if she had any great hatred for Leon, so I thought since she didn't put me on my final hook when she had the chance, maybe she'd spare him, too. But when I tried to save, Spirit grabbed me, and Leon died on second hook. Spirit still let me wiggle off and gave hatch though. I'm not sure why she chose to spare me. I have that match saved in my Twitch channel highlights. XD

It's 2023 and survivors waiting until the last minute to leave still isn't reportable, nor do we have a concede button.

I lose faith in the developers more and more every day.

People are complaining about DC's and early hook suicides while also asking for a concede/surrender button, and I am really failing to see the difference.

  • Issues like this are why I believe that the DC penalty needs to have a cap on it. Anything longer than an hour is just excessive, regardless of the reason for the DC.

I've been lucky, I haven't experienced this issue as excessively as some others have. It only happens to me once in a blue moon. Like, maybe once a month or so?

  • Oh yes, I thought it was strange that Steam had indicated to update DBD, but there was no dev announcement about a bugfix patch or any other update. What was that about?

  • I just played a match on my Steam Deck, and I'm stoked!

Of course I'd been struggling to get it working via Heroic so I could play it during my vacation. Now it works on Steam as soon as I'm back home. Oh well, hopefully it'll work the next time I'm away from home. XD

EDIT: Just saw BHVR's tweet that DBD is Steam Deck verified! Whoo!

  • How exactly would you know who the repeat offenders are? You may get a lot of games where players DC, but how often do you get those same players? I get a lot of people who DC/hook suicide in my games, but they're almost never the same people. For all I know, they could all be "first-time offenders," or who don't do it on a constant basis.

What? A 4% change is a remnant of the initial game design. The game is no longer based around something so outrageous which is majority used for exiting the game.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3419437#Comment_3419437

You can't in any game, the point is to have a real deterrent from screwing over 4 other players. Players that would dc so often they couldn't play without hook suicides shouldn't play the game in the first place.

These comments just show how selfish and conceded this playerbase is. Bhvr really just has to step up.

If you're going to complain about hook suicides, maybe you shouldn't play the game either. As others have pointed out, there are plenty of valid reasons for doing so, including the same reason listed in defense of the players going AFK (never mind that they too are allegedly "ruining the game for four other players").

People really need to drop the mindset that they can't have fun unless they win. You don't have to let DC's or hook suicides ruin your fun. Yes, it'll be harder to escape, but not escaping doesn't mean you can't have fun. You can still make progress on your daily or whatever archive challenge you're doing. You can still have fun, edge-of-your-seat chases. It's like another twist in your game, similar to when Devour Hope or NOED activate, or when a teammate legit dies. If anything, the complaints about DC'ing/hook suiciding are just as selfish and conceded as you claim the playerbase to be with their defense of it.

  • I don't think suiciding on hook should be reportable, because there are just as many valid reasons for doing so. If you want to give your last teammate hatch, for example. Or I'll do it if I'm being hardcore tunneled, because I know the killer's just going to come after me again and I'm as good as dead anyway.

    it is, though.

@CrypticGirl just wants to play DbD. she's having a tough time getting Heroic working. well, for right now at least, she could be playing on Steam. who knows what tomorrow will bring. maybe BHVR blocks it again.

but right now, she could play. that was the point. for whatever else you want, go check yourself then.

It's kind of pointless now. I was hoping to be able to play it while I was on vacation, but never did get it to work. Now I'm back home at my PC. Sadly I don't know anyone I'd trust well enough to do the RustDesk thing...

Just to be sure nothing is going weird with your setup, I would recommend deleting the folder in your DeadByDaylight folder in your Prefixes directory and then in Heroic Wine Manager uninstall all installed versions, then install the newest version of PROTON-GE which is currently Proton-GE-Proton7-55 as I'm writing this. Make sure Dead By Daylight is using that version of Proton, and make sure you run Force Game Update If Available and also Verify And Repair before launching the game. It should install Easy Anti Cheat and then launch the game and you should be able to get into the main menu. From there try playing a bot game to see that everything works correctly.

Sadly, it still doesn't work. But here's a question: Where exactly do you launch the game from? I've tried researching elsewhere on my own, and saw suggestions that you don't launch the game from the Heroic Games Launch, that you're supposed to add Heroic to Steam as a non-Steam game and then launch Heroic from Gaming Mode. (This doesn't work for me either, as I just get an infinite loading screen when I try to launch Heroic from Steam Deck gaming mode.)

And here's something interesting. Just for giggles I tried launching DBD in my Steam, and I can actually get into the menus and play a tutorial match, but I can't get into a public match. I just get immediately DC'd after the offerings are shown. I don't suppose there's a way around that, is there? I've tried forcing the compatibilty layer and selecting Proton-GE-Proton7-55, but to no avail.

  • @omano said:

I said Proton, not Wine-GE, not Lutris-GE and where are you getting these Flatpak things? Something is weird here.

I'm just looking at the "Install for" options in the ProtonUp-QT - Wine/Proton Installer, and it lists a Steam, Wine, Proton, Wine Flatpak, and Proton Flatpak.

In the DBD settings in Heroic, it asks for a Wine version, and a WinePrefix folder. I've tried different Proton versions for the Wine version, but I haven't touched the WinePrefix folder path. I don't know if that's where the issue is or not.

  • @omano said:

Without having the computer on hand I can't help more if you're sure everything is done as it should. Sorry. One possible thing is that you use an old Proton version. For EAC to work you need to use a recent Proton version in Heroic (or game settings). Old Proton version can not have the EAC Runtime to work.

Well, I went in to make sure there weren't any more updates to Proton. I was using 7-49, but then found Wine-GE 7.0-GE-8-LoL and then lutris-ge-lol-7.0 8-x86_64.

Then in the Wine/Proton Installer, I saw that there was a "Install for" field with the options Steam, Heroic Wine, Heroic Proton, Heroic Wine Flatpak, and Heroic Proton Flatpak. I wasn't sure which one to choose, but I tried the lutris-ge one on Heroic Wine. Still getting the same error.

I clicked the "Report a problem running this game" and saw a log, but I don't know about copying it...

  • @omano said:

Are you sure you ticked to box in Heroic for EasyAntiCheat Runtime in the game properties/settings (and do not set the environment variables, you just need to tick the box).

To run the game it is as simple as ticking the box in game properties, and creating the symbolic link in the proper place. That's all, if everything is up to date it should work.

Yes, the EasyAntiCheat Runtime box is ticked. I put in the command you posted above, and it created the file (I assume the symlink you mentioned) in the EGS folder. However, I'm still getting the "EAC client cannot be instantiated" error. I have Heroic version 2.7.0, so I don't know what else could possibly be out of date.

  • @omano said:

Do you all have issues on the SteamDeck? I play on PC with Heroic, no issues at all besides the messed up update, fixed after using the Repair functionality.

@CrypticGirl so first things first you said it didn't work you didn't say why you think it didn't work. Also, the proper command for you would be :

    ln -s /home/deck/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/EasyAntiCheat/ /home/deck/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries/EGS/

If you have an error post it here.

before you issue the command, make sure you do NOT have a folder EasyAntiCheat inside the path /home/deck/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries/EGS/

After you issue the command, a symlink called EasyAntiCheat will appear in /home/deck/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries/EGS/ at this point there is nothing to do regarding the EasyAntiCheat folder, game or EAC updates will be reflected to this symlink as it points to the real folder.

For the other issues regarding this file error, again, do all the people have the issue on SteamDeck?

Oh yeah, I think it didn't work because I still get the "EAC client cannot be instantiated" error. I'll let you know when I try your latest tip.

And yes, I was having the issue on the Steam Deck regarding that unknown "aksilencegenerator" error. Updating the Heroic Launcher on the Steam Deck fixed it for me. Now it's just the "EAC client cannot be instantiated" error that I can't seem to get past.

  • @omano said:

Where is your game installed exactly? copy/paste the path here.

    /home/deck/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight

I forgot to mention, yes, I did change the (USERNAME) part to my actual username in the scripts and such, which would be "deck."

  • I think I'm officially a lost cause. First I tried this method described above...

    #!/bin/bash

     cp -rf /home/(yourusername)/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/EasyAntiCheat /home/(yourusername)/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries

     cp -rf /home/(yourusername)/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/EasyAntiCheat /home/(yourusername)/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries/EGS

After you create the script, you need to make it executable. In your terminal run:

     chmod +x (scriptname).sh

To run the script (assuming it's in your home directory), simply type this in the terminal whenever you need to re-copy your EAC folders to the correct places:

     ./(scriptname).sh

^ This didn't work. Then I tried this in terminal...

    ln -s $EAC_DIR $BIN_DIR

    ln -s $EAC_DIR $EGS_DIR

And I get "ln: missing file operand."

  • Do I have to redo all the steps with copying and pasting those folders, or executing those commands in terminal?

  • @omano said:

Reinstall the game then I don't know. Are you using the latest Heroic update? I have Heroic 2.7 on my side.

It works, I had a completely messed up update in the end it ended up downloading the whole game.

Where do you get that version from? I only have 2.5.2 and I don't see any options to update it.

  • @omano said:

Verify game files again from Heroic. If it still doesn't work, delete the file, verify files again, and see if it fixed it.

On my side I have multiple files corrupted/not downloaded properly, verifying files is currently downloading files, specifically:

    • DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Content/Paks/pakchunk0-EGS.pak
    • DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Content/Paks/pakchunk1-EGS.pak
    • DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries/EGS/DeadByDaylight-EGS-Shipping.exe

Nope, that still didn't fix it...

  • Now I get the error: "EAC has detected that game files have been modified (error code 4). To resolve this, please verify the integrity of the game cache (found under the Local Files section of the game's properties).

Additional info: Unknown file version (DeadByDaylight/Plugins/Wwise/ThirdParty/x64_vc160/Release/bin/AkSiolenGenerator.dll)"

I have tried both the force update and verify and repair options, but neither has resolve the issue. Do I just delete that file mentioned in the error?

  • @omano said:

    Follow my steps:

    • Install the game in Heroic (from this step I'm assuming a CLEAN game folder, without anything copied here and there)
    • In the game settings, tick the EasyAntiCheat Runtime box
    • Install a Proton GE version (I use 7-49) in Heroic
    • In the game properties select the Proton GE version
    • Now in terminal execute these two commands, by replacing the username in the path (or by completely modifying the path to match your system, here it is default folders, but you need to have the real path from your system), this is assuming default path here with a user called USERNAME so change all USERNAME to your user name

    ln -s /home/USERNAME/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/EasyAntiCheat/ /home/USERNAME/Games/Heroic/DeadByDaylight/DeadByDaylight/Binaries/EGS/

    • Start the game
    • Enjoy

Now I get the error: "EAC has detected that game files have been modified (error code 4). To resolve this, please verify the integrity of the game cache (found under the Local Files section of the game's properties).

Additional info: Unknown file version (DeadbyDaylight/PluginsWwise/ThirdParty/x64_vc160/Release/bin/AkSilenceGenerator.dll)."

I have tried forcing the update and the verify and repair option, but neither has resolved the issue. Do I just delete that file version mentioned in the error?

Just delete the entire DeadByDaylight folder inside Prefixes. It'll make a new prefix the next time you launch the game. The prefixes are essentially just the fake windows drive that Wine uses for compatibility with Windows programs

Okay, now I've tried it, but it's still not working. 😭

  • @Alakad said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3399227#Comment_3399227

That's odd. Maybe try deleting this prefix folder. It should be in Heroic => Games => Prefixes => DeadByDaylight. And then afterwards try "Force Update" and/or "Verify and Repair" from the game's settings menu in Heroic.

So when you say delete "this" prefix folder, is there a certain one? I'm in Games => Heroic => Prefixes => Dead by Daylight. In there, there are three folders: pfx, drive_c, and then dosdevices. Do I delete the pfx then?

  • @Alakad said:

It's a bit confusing but the root directory of the game is called DeadByDaylight but there's also a DeadByDaylight folder in the root directory. I think it has to do with the way EasyAntiCheat and Unreal Engine work as to why it's setup like that, but anyway, here's a more thorough explaination...

For example, your folder structure probably looks like this to get to the EGS folder:

    Heroic => Games => DeadByDaylight => DeadByDaylight => Binaries => EGS

If it's on Steam it would be:

    Steam => steamapps => common => DeadByDaylight => DeadByDaylight => Binaries => Win64

Ah. Now I see the folder, but the game still isn't working for me. The EAC splash window will appear, and then it will give me a black screen. After a few minutes, the game stops and I'm back in the Heroic Games Launcher. No error messages at all, so I have no clue what I'm doing wrong here...

  • I'm trying this again (last time I couldn't get past the "EAC cannot be instantiated error), and I'm lost at this step...

    • "Copy the EasyAntiCheat folder -- the entire folder, not it's contents -- and navigate to DeadByDaylight => Binaries => EGS and then paste the EasyAntiCheat folder in there.

I don't see Binaries in the DeadbyDaylight folder. Do I create one?

  • If that's the case, they should just delete all perks, items, and add-ons entirely (and make Kindred basekit). Only then will skill actually matter.

  • Depends on the time of the day. When I play in the morning (EST time), there's always a Survivor queue bonus, while late at night, Killer gets the bonus.

  • "4 survivors slugged on ground killer doesnt hook = 4 minute timeout/no chance to hurry bleedout meter"

This is exactly why the devs are working on the Finisher Mori mechanic that no one seems to like.

    Careful what you wish for.

I haven't seen any survivors who screw up skillchecks yet, only absolute beginners do that. Also walking up just to redeploy your drone is the same as if you're playing Trapper just to re-set a trap which will get immediately disarmed again. It's a lose-lose situation while possibly up to 3 more people are doing the same thing, you can't keep up.

This isn't your typical DBD skillcheck, as I'm sure you know. Pressing random directional buttons as generated by this drone hacking thing isn't difficult, but it's awkward with a joystick, and I mess it up more often than not. I haven't tried using the d-pad, but I doubt it would work.

Another thing I learned is that the Skull Merchant is absolutely CRACKED on indoor maps with multiple floors. She places a drone downstairs in Midwich; if you happen to go into her zone on the top floor, you still get exposed and can't reach her drone to hack it from there.

  • I've played several matches against Skull Merchant, and I'm finding her very annoying. Like Hag levels of annoying. She defends gens with her drones. You can hack drones, but you get insta-exposed if you mess it up. Even if you successfully hack it, she can easily redeploy it in the same spot.

So yeah, to me, the Skull Merchant is like another Hag, with more effects to her power.

  • Right? I'm a terrible killer, but even I know better than to keep chasing someone I can't catch. And if you can't catch all four survivors, then Grim Embrace is obviously not the perk for you.

And since you obviously don't care to improve, then why are you complaining about losing?

  • The perk description says "After a generator is completed"... It doesn't say it has to be completed by YOU. Therefore, Poised is fine as it is.

  • I've been collecting my match data as well. (I play Survivor 99% of the time, and I play solo.) From the way my matches have been going, Killers are doing just fine, even with the HUD additions.

This should be a quality of life extension onto the anonymous mode, being on console I cant stop messages unless I stop all communication and I shouldn't have to for 1 game not to mention the false reports can impact my profile.

This is something that needs sorting please.

Go to Options - Online, and under Gameplay Privacy, turn on Anonymous Mode. That way people will only see your character's name and no profile to click on.

  • Yeah, they should at least wear the cosmetic we have equipped on our survivors.

  • The new wiggle skill checks aren't made to be better than the old ones. Devs stated that they made the great skill check zones slightly bigger to compensate for not being as impactful as the old wiggle skill check.

Though the old wiggle skill checks weren't that impactful anyway, so I'm really failing to see why it needed to be changed...

And? You don't need that information constantly, but it doesn't change anything if you do have it constantly. If someone gets pushed off a high progress gen, they call it out over voice comms "my gen is at 95% in XYZ, I'm being chased". Now, solo Q has access to that same info, where they'll see the gen progress, and the chase bars. And SWF still comes out ahead because they can call out the exact location of the gen whereas solo Q has to do play detective to find it.

I find it so baffling that so many people are upset that solo Q is slowly being brought up to the level of SWF.

And after crying that solo Q was a nightmare to play to boot. I don't understand the logic either...

  • One thing you could do is time management. For example, how long do you spend in the queue waiting for the next match to start? At least a minute, right? Whatever time it takes to find a lobby, and then the 60-second countdown (unless everyone readies up before the countdown ends, which almost NEVER happens).

You could be spending that time spending the bloodpoints. And also not letting your BP balance escalate that high to begin with helps, too.

I'm already linked egs and steam, but sync doesn't work

I did notice in the DBD settings in Heroic, it says "Sync Saves: Unsupported." I'm assuming that means that your progress in Epic won't be carried over to Heroic, or vice versa. If that's the case, it's probably not worth playing DBD on the Steam Deck, at least through this method. I might as well stick with the Nintendo Switch version for portable DBD...
