Because you were infact a bad teammate....

If you're on 0 hooks, why would you let your 2 hook teammate go for the save?

Being a dedicated gen slammer when your team is all on death hook is not a good play.

Bottom line is, you dont deserve a second chance at a consolation prize ,and neither are you entitled to wasting a killers time.

If you got found and hooked last, it is what it is, just accept the L and move on.

I can't control what my teammates do. If they decide to go for the save, that's their choice. Who am I to stop them? Am I supposed to bodyblock them if they try to go for save? That would make me a bad teammate.

This is why I run Kindred. If I see teammates go for the save, I know I don't need to. If I see them getting chased, I sneak in for the save.

  • That's strange, because I just got the same dailies I did yesterday. Not much variety there...

The scenarios in which you're 0/3 hooks when your teammates are all dead indicate you were a bad teammate.

Any survivor playing the actual game will be hooked at some point, in order to reach 0/3 hooks when everyone is dead it indicates you ATLEAST threw your last teammate under the bus to grab the consolation prize escape via hatch.

Theres no valid reason to give the last remaining survivor 2 extra chances at the consolation prize when they were some of the worst survivor teammates you could ever have.

With 3 dead, the game is over, if you get found accept the L and go next, and most importantly, stop trying to waste the killers time because you got upset. Break the toxicity cycle.

Not necessarily. I've had plenty of matches where I've stayed hidden from the Killer, but I've still worked on gens and did hook saves when the Killer left the hook. The other three teammates would run around getting chased and bodyblocking for each other while I was the gen jockey. Once they all died, I either got hatch, or I got hooked and died as well. Half the time they'd say I was a bad teammate (never mind the gens and hook saves I did), but I counter that running the Killer all day long doesn't mean a thing if no one's doing gens.

That said, I also wish I could still have a chance of unhooking myself if everyone else is already dead. Even if I do get caught again, I'd rather have the 4% fighting chance than a 0%.

  • I wouldn't mind a mode like this; it would be helpful for looping practice, which is what many players struggle with.

Though I would say disable all perks for this mode so neither player would have an unfair advantage over the other.

I would also say no to the Leaderboard, as that would cause unnecessary sweating.

  • Sure, one could say that tunneling is fair, but it is also problematic for several reasons.

    1. As many pointed out, it is unfun for the Survivors, leading to many DC's and hook suicides, which is another issue that is frequently complained about.
    2. It leads to stagnation in Killer power design improvements. Players are too busy tunneling to learn to use the Killer's powers effectively and provide constructive feedback. And then the devs will look at the stats and say "Oh, that Killer has enough kills already (because they tunnel all the time), so they don't need improvements."
  • We're not going to push those types of players out of the game because we're always going to get new players.  And many people do have legit reasons for giving up (i.e. being hardcore tunneled). They shouldn't be punished for wanting to get out of matches like that.

The devs seem pretty adamant about harsh penalties, so I'd rather remove the DC bots. They're not helping us if players continue to be pushed to throw on hook. And in my experience, the bots haven't been helpful even when players do DC.

  • I agree with this. The penalties as they are now also punish the wrong people (the ones who suffer from random server crashes). It's not fair for them to get punished when the crashes aren't their fault.

  • I agree with OP. And let's not forget the "it's not my responsibility to make sure others are having fun" mentality and acting like that excuses toxic behavior. Why even play a multiplayer game if all you care about is your own fun?

An example I can think of is Larry. If you try to use your cameras after hooking a Survivor, you're punished with the anti-camping slowdown upon exit. This happens even if they were on death-hook and you didn't camp. There's no reason why a Survivor in the sacrifice animation should trigger the anti-camp effect.

It shouldn't be that difficult to step out of range to use your power.

  • Because there's no reason to use it near survivors being sacrificed? Even if there was, what's the harm in waiting 20-30 seconds for the sacrifice animation to complete?

  • Why do you need to use your powers near survivors being sacrificed? There's nothing there to camp anymore, so what value would you get?

  • I'd support this. I had described a match the other day where it was me and one teammate remaining. The teammate was slugged, and they DC'd (I assumed to give me hatch). But since the bot took their place, the hatch didn't spawn. And that bot was slugged, so they couldn't do anything. I was chased by the killer, and I was just screwed at that point.

Heck, I'd say remove the bots entirely. If someone DC's and we lose as a result, oh well. It's just one game. Just say gg's and move on.

  • Honestly, I would rather just have the bots removed if they're going to insist on keeping the DC penalties the way they are. I feel like the bots cause more problems than they solve, and the penalties don't really allow us to make much use of the bots anyway.

  • "-When the time is less than 15 seconds (when the numbers are red) it would no longer be possible to abandon the lobby"

^ I could have sworn this part was already a thing.

But I certainly wouldn't mind the other ideas that were brought up.

  • @kisfenkin said:

I disagree. I think they should increase the DC punishment. Bots should only be in matches where someone accidentally loses internet. The bots aren't there to cover a temper tantrum, but to support the players that aren't having internet problems and actually want to play the game.

They were never meant to incentivize DCs, and since this mindset is obviously something that has come up, please, BHVR, increase the DC penalty significantly to squash this idea entirely. I suggest:

    1st DC 1 hour penalty

    2nd DC 1 day penalty

    3rd DC 1 week penalty

    4th DC 1 month penalty

    5th DC 1 year penalty

People who have internet problems shouldn't be punished that much. And if the DC penalties get that ridiculous, that will only incentivize throwing on hook. Not to mention people will be afraid to play this game again, because everyone has their internet blips from time to time, even when their service is generally good.

  • I don't even know how they're supposed to stack, since you only get that bp bonus if YOU complete the gen. Other people popping gens while you're being chased doesn't give you anything.

  • @Amy095 said:

Rip it happened again, now a 24 hour ban thanks to bad ping my end..

This is another reason why I made the post about putting a cap on the DC penalty stack...

  • True. Although I'd rather not have the DC bots, as they screw over the Survivors just as much, but that would have to be a separate thread entirely.

  • IIRC, event add-ons don't work outside of their respective event.

Correct me if I'm wrong though...

  • Indeed. It's weird that you can pick up a killer item while holding a survivor item, but you can't pick up a survivor item while holding a killer item...

  • Agreed. The guy's all about following the rules as well. "Hookiciding is against the rules." But isn't telling people to DC also against the rules?

  • @jordanjustice said:

So, I just realized how bad bots could be for survivors.... In matches where there is only 2 people left and the killer slugs one to max their cringe factor and go for a (usually undeserved) 4k... if the slugged survivor does a sacrifice DC to counter that cringe slug... does a bot come in that point? Probably.

Please change this, if so. That is a calculated gameplay DC and it needs to be an option. A bot just hurts the other survivor in that situation.

I just had that happen yesterday. Just me and one teammate left, and the teammate was slugged, and they DC'd. The bot was slugged in their place, so they couldn't do anything. I couldn't do much to help the teammate or their bot, since I was being chased.

  • Hiding within the terror radius is much more forgiving than hiding within 10 meters of the Killer. I actually did this one and still played the game normally. (It was against a Dredge in The Game.)

If the challenge was to hide within 10 meters of the Killer without being caught for a whole 120 seconds, then I would agree that that challenge would be insane, but the terror radius is not nearly as bad as it sounds.

Isn't that specifically what a support ticket report is for?

...Not really? They do require video evidence, right? Otherwise, the report system would just be abused to heck and back. And maybe only 10% of the community records their gameplay, if that? And do you really believe a person should be banned if they did it only once? I can't see the support ticket producing any results here...

I'd like to make a distinction between hookicide when everyone is on death hook and you have 4 gens left, and hookicides 20s into the game because you didn't like how you went down.

Which is exactly why nothing can be done about it. Neither the game or the devs can make that distinction in every single hookicide case.

  • If the devs don't want to remove the penalty, that's fine. I understand them wanting to discourage willy nilly DC's. But what they need to do is put a cap on the stacks. There is no reason why the penalty should stack to the point where you have to wait literal DAYS to queue up again. I believe that is the main reason why people prefer to dodge the penalty. Another possible reason is that they prefer to save their penalty stacks for when they really need them, such as when their connection randomly drops.

After playing some matches with DC bots, I'm finding that they don't really change the outcome. We're already at a losing point when a teammate DC's. I had one teammate DC on second hook, and apparently the bots are notorious for missing skill checks, so that bot died on hook before I could get to them. Another teammate DC'd while they were slugged, so their bot couldn't do anything (I was the only other person alive at that point and I was being chased). And then a teammate DC'd against an Onryo when they got fully condemned, so all that bot did was take the death stare.

So at the end of the day, the DC bots don't really change anything in the grand scheme of things. So why do we have them? If a teammate gets so mad that they DC on the first down, I'd rather just lose the match and go next than drag it out with a bot. We could all do so much better in accepting the fact that we're not going to win every match.

  • I went against two Onryos in a row this morning. The first time I accidentally screwed over a teammate by grabbing a tape from a TV while she was coming towards me, and she had more condemned stacks than I did. She got downed shortly after, DC'd, and then her bot got the death stare. I felt bad.

The second Onryo played the slugging game, so my condemned stacks built up too fast and I was unable to get tapes due to being slugged for half the match, and I got the death stare like three minutes into the match.

So yeah, she's feeling a bit oppressive to play against atm. I told myself I would DC if I got another Onryo in a row, but thankfully I didn't.

I wonder why this thread hasn’t been moved to Feedback. Isn’t this someone’s critique of an in-game phenomenon? An opinion on player experience?

There've been plenty of threads about this already in the Feedback, and I hear the devs have already said that they're not removing penalties, so all these discussions about it are just beating a dead horse at this point.

  • I'd delete Hag. I hate her traps so much, and two of her perks are among the top three that I hate going against the most (Devour Hope and Third Seal). The third top perk I hate going against is Pentimento...

What one person finds fun another person may not.

Player attitude has a much bigger effect on whether or not that player has fun. Most players seem to actively not want to have fun, they just either want to win at all costs, or their priority is to prevent others having fun.

Exactly! At the end of the day, it's all about the players' attitude, and that's not something that BHVR can fix. That's up to us. And that goes for both sides (those who DC and those who remain in the match). Just because one person DC's doesn't mean you can't have fun. It makes it harder to escape, yes, but you can still do what you can, have an epic chase, what have you, and have fun.

Too many people have this mindset that they can't have fun unless they win, and that mindset desperately needs to be dropped. Again, that is not something that BHVR can fix.

    LoL

No. Why should it taken away? The point is that those, who ruin the game for the 4 other people should be punished. The solution is not take away the penalty, but make a system to penelize those who kill themself just becase they got downed.

It could be so damn easy.... If you have no unhook perks, and there is x survivor alive, or and y gens left and you try to unhook yourself then you should be banned from que just like with DC penalty.

Disconnecting or killing yourself because the game went bad or not fun since you cannot bully the killer shouldn't be allowed or an option. Especially not since killers have to play over the trial no matter how fun it is, since they cannot kill themself. At least now, how balancing works within a few month I am sure survivors will hook the killer.

The flaw in your logic is that you assume that every single person tries to throw on hook because they want to quit the match. But there are also scenarios where you have no other choice by to attempt the self-unhook, such as when everyone else is slugged, or the team just outright refuses to save you, or if there's one other person remaining and you sacrifice yourself to give them a chance at the hatch. Unfortunately, there's no way for the game to distinguish between those scenarios, and that is why banning people for attempted self-unhooks should absolutely NOT be a thing.

From the perspective of a teammate of one of these players, it will always be better for me and the teammates that stay in the match, if someone like this is encouraged to DC-to-bot, rather than suicide-on-hook, go afk, sandbag the team or run up to the killer to die.

The DC penalty discourages them from DCing and instead suiciding-on-hook, going afk, sandbagging the team or running to the killer to die.

    ---

However, on the other side of that, the developers should be investigating why people are finding the game so unfun that they're DCing/suiciding-on-hook.

I really don't think there's a single answer to that. Someone could just be having a bad match for all kinds of reasons. Maybe the killer or teammates are being toxic. Maybe the person's getting tunneled. Maybe they just made a huge mistake (and one mistake by one person is enough to cost the entire match, I've found, even if the person doesn't quit). Maybe the person is just unlucky and kept getting found by the killer. Who knows?

So they move on to the next match hoping that it'll be better than the last one.

  • As long as the DC penalty exists in its current state, people will continue to throw on hook. And as the devs have said that they're not removing the penalty, there's nothing we can do about that.

But what they need to do is make DC'ing the more appealing option, which means that the penalty will need to be adjusted. I say they should put a cap on it. There is absolutely NO reason why the penalty should stack up to the point where you have to wait literal DAYS before you can queue up again. I would say cap it at an hour or something. That should be enough time for the person to calm down from whatever rage they were feeling, and maybe they'll be done for the day altogether while doing something else while waiting for that penalty to end.

Another possibility is some kind of strike system. For example, three DC's would lead to a 24-hour ban or something. Or maybe five DC's, who knows? But IMO, there should NEVER be a permanent ban just for DC's. But I don't see that point changing either. But these ideas would make people more willing to accept the penalty while still discouraging DC'ing willy nilly.

  • @Seraphor said:

Why are players killing themselves on hook?

Is it because none of their team mates are coming to save them? Then they're right to get out of the match, it's already doomed because the survivor team has zero coordination. There is no solution for this, it is the players faults.

Is it because they're being camped? Well the anti-camping mechanic will make that less likely. You'll be better off hanging on until 59 seconds then unhooking yourself, even if you get tunnelled and hooked again, because you'll get to waste a lot more of the killers time and score a ton of BP in the process.

Is it because they don't like the killer? Similar to the first point, there's no accounting for bad survivor behaviour. The only real solution to this is to address the balance for that killer in question. It won't solve every case, but it will save some.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3490494#Comment_3490494

DC penalty can never go away. Bots aren't a valid replacement for an actual player, and it will break the MMR system.

If the teammates are doing nothing but Plot Twisting and Urban Evading around the map, and I'm hanging on second hook with 4 gens still remaining, then yes, I'm going to go next. 😡

  • Maybe this is why I keep getting the daily rituals for the same handful of killers. It's bad enough that I just get dailies for killers in general, but it's for the same handful of killers and not spread through the entire roster...

  • @oxygen said:

Leaving the lobby should be possible for everyone.

All possible information besides choice of survivor, choice of cosmetics and choice of items shouldn't be available however. Prestige, especially profile access, names and so on should be gone.

Alternatively completely get rid of every last line of code that makes up the "backfill" logic. Just use completely normal matchmaking to replace anyone that leaves, don't rush it or whatever on earth it does that makes a revolving door lobby where the killer changed 2 times and 3 survivors left and got replaced have a massively increased chance of being a horribly mismatched clown fest that already has a predetermined outcome from the first frame of the match. I don't care if that means I'll have to wait 30 seconds instead of 10 seconds. Or a minute even, I just don't want to see 3 yellow perk killer vs survivor team with 3000+ average hours or a 27 hour survivor in a match vs a 6000 hour nurse main.

But get rid of prestige no matter what. For all someone knows that prestige 5 Dwight might have 3 P100s anyway.

Yet another reason why prestige levels should be hidden from other players.

  • Heck, I'd be fine with discarding my unwanted items and getting nothing in return. It's just needless inventory clutter.

  • I would think that MMR is hidden for the same reasons that people want prestige levels to be hidden. It may lead to lobby dodging and/or harassment.

  • I was wondering this myself. Just yesterday I was on a gen and two teammates got downed within seconds of each other, and my gen exploded and my character screamed both times. I'd have a clip of it from my stream, but my understanding is that we're not allowed to post screenshots or videos if players' names are visible?

Although to note, the killer did have both Jolt and Eruption, but the killer didn't kick the gen (definitely not for the second time the gen exploded). Could it be a bug of having both perks equipped?

  • @DaddyMyers_Mori said:

If there is no DC penalty, then bots are kinda pointless.

You will have everyone leave as soon first survivor leave.

    Don't like killer? DC

    Don't like map? DC

Actually, the bots are kind of pointless because of the DC penalty. People will instead throw on hook to avoid the penalty and prevent the bot from replacing them. That's the entire point of the post (for those who don't want to read the "paragraph vomit" as one person described). And it will be made even worse if the DC penalties are raised as some people are suggesting.

  • @Raptorrotas said:

Well if the problem is people dodging the penalty, then remove the possibility to dodge it.

The bots are not for the ragequitter, but for the people he leaves behind. Their existence has NOTHING to do with the penalty a ragequitter should receive. If they prefer to dodge the penalty and deny their team their replacement bot, it just shows that the ragequitter doesnt care for the team.

That's actually not viable. I'd rather not be punished whenever I decide to sacrifice myself so that the last teammate can get hatch, or my teammates can focus on escaping if I get first or second hook in endgame.

  • No, the DC penalty should absolutely NOT be raised, for the exact reasons listed in the original post. People will simply resort to throwing on hook to dodge the penalty, and eliminate the disconnect bots in the process.

You simply cannot force people to remain in a match that they don't want to continue with.

  • I would personally enjoy this. This is why I stream the game myself, in case I have those memorable matches that I want to save (or even capture clips of the silliest or most epic things). And when I meet other streamers, I like to see the match from their perspectives as well.

However, I can't see how it would be implemented. I imagine it would be quite difficult.

  • I can't find the post now, but someone had posted in General Discussions the Q&A transcript, where the devs said that basekit Unbreakable was not coming, but they were still working on the finishing mori. I think that's a terrible idea. I believe I've seen others point it out before, but it would only encourage Killers to slug everyone as fast as possible for the mori.

  • And also, despite the fact that the article says you only get one outfit piece per day, I've been getting two pieces at the same time a few times. I've been getting one of Deathslinger's pieces and one of Claudette's pieces at the same time. So something is definitely off somewhere...

  • Now I'm confused, for some reason I didn't get the shirt for Claudette. I've logged in every day (in the morning and evening). How did I not get it? 🤔

  • This is why I'm somewhat concerned for the Forced Hesitation buff coming up for the new chapter release. It'll allow the Killer to easily slug everyone, especially if they also run Infectious Fright.

  • @Spectralfx said:

I don't understand why survivors feels like they can dictate how others should play based on what is fun TO THEMSELVES.

I don't know what to say other than you know, learn to loop and don't get hooked.

And I don't understand how standing beside a hooked Survivor, doing literally nothing is considered fun for Killers. Is getting the kill really that much more important than having fun? Or are you only able to have fun when you get kills?

So your response to people complaining about camping is "learn to loop, don't get hooked, get gud." Well, the same applies to the other side as well: Learn to interrupt multiple Survivors, learn to spread pressure, get gud.

People need to stop usng "it's not fun" as a counter-argument. BHVR can remove camping while buffing killer somewhere else so that the "unfun" camping is gone while the power level of killers remain the same.

It's not guaranteed that they die. If there's a pallet or window nearby or Bubba enters Tantrum, they have a chance to escape. Also, Reassurance is already a major counter to camping. If they use it, it's almost always necessary to immediately stop camping to avoid losing the game.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3443131#Comment_3443131

Nah. I am asking for a compensation buff in this case because I think BHVR made this change as a quality of life change and didnt consider the impact on kill rates.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3443146#Comment_3443146

You know why you can't beat them? It's because you don't camp. It's necessary to play as dirty as possible to beat strong SWFs. This is why I consider the camping changes a nerf that needs to be compensated for.

Also being unable to get a 50 win streak due to swfs is a poor excuse. OnePumpWillie and I also get swfs during our streaks and still beat them fine.

    Blast Mine

Reverted 24 second heal time to 16 second.

    Mettle of Man

When Decisive Strike was nerfed, Borrowed Time was made base kit.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3443202#Comment_3443202

I didn't say I couldn't win on Bubba without face camping. I'm just saying that it's a massive nerf to Bubba. I will still beat solos fine but beating strong teams will be difficult. Also, the change affects all killers and not just Bubba. Bubba is just the one that is most affected. Also, Bubba has the 2nd/3rd lowest kill rate in the game at high mmr and shouldn't be nerfed further. https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/350586/stats-kill-rate-by-killer-and-mmr-september-2022#latest

I'm genuinely curious now, what sort of compensation would you suggest for the camping nerf? Killers will already have the compensation in that the mechanic will be disabled in the endgame. And they've already received all kinds of basekit tools to help pressure Survivors: Faster pallet breaking, faster gen kicking, 2.5% instant gen regression when kicking, longer gen repair times, Survivors getting shorter speed boosts when hit, nerfed Dead Hard...the list goes on.
