  • Has there been any public statement from BHVR about this yet besides direct emails? I don't want to get invested in it just for it to be another thanksgiving day accident just to get blocked from the game again >_>

  • I ended up buying it on Epic in addition to owning it on Steam and I regret it. Opening epic is so much more of a hassle than just playing the games that are on the steam deck home screen so I never do it. I wish they would just enable the anticheat for steam already.

  • Damn I was so excited that I got to play a bunch of matches yesterday that I planned for a game night today with my friends which I now have to cancel last minute because half of us can't play again :(

ok. it's more that they're playing actual live matches, is all. so a bit different.

i can get into the menus and do things that don't involve other real players, but i haven't tried a Custom Match just yet. don't have time to get a group to test with.

Ah! That's crazy. For me I don't get a 500 error on live matches, just a generic "disconnected" message. That's great to hear though, I assumed there was still some server sided thing that needed to be enabled to join live matches but it seems we're even closer to being able to play if it's just a client issue. I was expecting to get a ton of bot match practice in before actually getting to earn BP again.

it works as in you're playing full matches?

it kicks me once the match begins with Error: 500

Full tutorial matches yep - multiplayer still doesn't work but I've played a handful of tutorial matches without issue. I first noticed it started working on my steam deck and when trying on my laptop I forgot to install the eac runtime on my laptop, so I deleted the game fully as well as the proton prefix, so I pretty much started from 0. Installed the game, eac runtime, set proton to 7.0-4 (since I have my global default to experimental), and it works. This is on X11 and using flatpak steam on arch if that matters.

  • For me it's working out of the box in steam, seems a lot easier than in heroic. I just had to install "Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime" from my steam library and it works out of the box.

  • Pro tip: Don't forget to install "Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime" from your steam library if it didn't install automatically. I was having the unable to instantiate eac error when I tried to play on my laptop until I did that, I guess it was already installed on my steam deck.

  • I'm actually able to play the tutorial now on my steam deck! Using the default proton which for me is 7.0-4. Surprising considering the radio silence here. Hopefully multiplayer matches will be enabled soon...

  • I haven't yet spent hundreds on DBD, but as a completionist at heart, it would be hard to resist spending hundreds on my favorite survivor if the game was actually playable on deck instead of getting stuck at the loading screen with EAC initialization errors.

  • Another update another crash initializing eac :(

  • According to the KDE devs, valve has shipped over a million units, that's a lot of potential DBD players. And the backorder queue will be empty this week or next week. Sales are only gonna increase when you can have one shipping within a few days of ordering.

this is probably one of you, but im just gonna post it here so yall can gaze at it while you wait

Can confirm, after launching it repeatedly maybe 20-50 times I managed to get to the menu too, though I spent too long trying to line up my phone to snap a pic to get anywhere besides the main menu before it exited.

Nowadays and despite the most recent update, I still just get crashed out at the loading screen, no failed to initialize EAC like it used to do

Just going to add my voice to the crowd, as I'm expecting to get my Steam Deck soon-ish. I am curious, if the game can be played via Remote Play if it won't work on the Deck itself. That's something I plan to experiment with once I get it.

Grinding on the Steam version is daunting enough; I really don't want to do the entire grind on the Nintendo Switch version, too. Playing on the Switch can be insufferable, through Elgato and OBS due to input lag, and in handheld mode due to everything being too dark to see anything. So being able to play my main account on the go would be awesome. XD

I tried for a while with remote play but the inconsistent latency made skill checks impossible to predict, on top of just the general added latency making it so I have to hit skill checks extra early. So I'm worried playing like that will just make it harder to switch back to non-remote play, and also makes all my teammates hate me.

  • Sad to see this never got fixed :( Would really love to play this on my steam deck or linux pc

you could join me in the dark lands of Stadia. you can sync it to steam.

How does stadia fare doing skill checks? I tried in home streaming from a roommates pc but even over gigabit lan the added latency really throws me off and I don't want to get too used to it.

Linux is opening the door to even more cheaters.

What a silly idea founded on the faults of client sided cheat detection. Any devs worth their reputation would implement server sided validation of perks, stats, player locations, visibility, and actions and be done with it. The fact that cheaters fly around the map show that the devs aren't doing the most they can, so focusing on the operating system the players use is a red herring and simply lazy.

So close yet so far :( at least I get 60fps lol. It's a shame I can't even get into a practice game while we wait for eac to be fixed.

  • I would be 110% happy even without touch and gyro support. Though they are nice to haves, I just want to be able to play the game. As long as they make sure you don't have to whip out a keyboard to press space to get past the title screen or manually map the controls, I'm happy. There's a lot less that needs tweaking if you just use the existing console/controller mappings instead of trying to add support for touchpad, gyro, touchscreen, etc. None of that matters if you can't play due to EAC.

Still doesn't work? When will you finish the project? What do you think?

Tweet at them to enable multiplayer on steam deck :) My deck is in the mail so it couldn't happen soon enough. I simply can't hit skill checks when streaming from a windows pc due to the streaming lag. I'm literally buying an hdmi over ethernet adapter to try to get a lower latency connection so I can play since I don't have direct access to the only windows pc in the house. I would much rather spend that money on DBD content :/

  • Lets gooooooo! Looking forward to seeing the server side enabled :)

  • Horizon zero dawn, cuphead, death stranding, hitman, superhot, all verified, it would be amazing to see DBD join that list.

And @MandyTalk , omano is right. enabling steamdeck is the same as enabling for linux+proton. Steam deck IS linux+proton, so whenever anyone says "linux support", you can just interpret it as steamdeck support. Any distinction between the two is too small to matter for games that aren't "native", plus the community will eagerly fix anything that arises, as has happened with many windows-only games before such as Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, where the community developed a day-1 controller api patch to bring the game to linux+proton, which the game devs have graciously implemented which is why NASB is now deck verified.

NASB devs never "supported" linux, they just didn't put roadblocks in our way - and the gaming community is all the better for it.

You no longer need to use the EOS EAC Version to enable proton support. The non EOS version is supported now as well! This means that now it‘s actually only a click away and does not require the change of game binaries etc.

This is fantastic news! Now both EAC and BattleEye games can support linux in actually a few clicks. No changes to game code or SDK updates required. I've been wanting to play DBD for so long, thanks to Valve bending over backwards to get game developers access to these easy options maybe we will be able to play soon :)

@MandyTalk In case news hasn't reached the devs yet, do make sure they hear of this recent update which should make the task much easier. In a few days the deck compatibility ratings will start going live, but I'm sure it will still be a while before the testers get to DBD. It would obviously be better for DBD to start out with a good deck compatibility rating rather than require a re-test.

    From the new Steamworks documentation:

    Easy Anti-Cheat

Proton supports Easy Anti-Cheat without requiring any recompilation, but it does require you to manually enable support for your build by following these steps in order:

    1. Go into the EAC settings on the EAC partner site and enable Linux support from the dashboard.

    2. Once that's done, download the EAC Linux library (easyanticheat_x64.so) for the SDK version integrated with your game, and add it to your depot next to the Windows library (EasyAntiCheat_x64.dll).

    3. Lastly, on the Steamworks site, publish a new build of your game containing the new depot contents. (You don't have to make any changes to the game executable, just include the new files in the depot contents.)

So now the steps are, ticking the box on the dashboard, and adding the correct .so file to the game depot and publishing that. No new builds, sdk updates, or recompiling required.

Also of note regarding resubmitting for re-testing:

If your title's functionality was previously blocked or limited by anti-cheat, but you've since completed the above steps to enable Proton/Steam Deck support, you can resubmit your game for a follow-up review. Please see the Steam Deck Compatibility Review documentation for more details.

  • According to The Verge this morning, this is now planned :) Maybe the news just hasn't reached everyone in the company yet but this is promising.

    Dead by Daylight — Yes

“I can confirm that we have plans of updating our EAC to support the Steamdeck in the future,” a Behaviour Interactive rep tells The Verge.

We don't even need any kind of support, we just need EAC for Linux enabled

Precisely. Just don't block us from trying or ban us for making workarounds, most of us will happily work with proton, wine, and crossover devs to make the game work - we just need a chance.

    Boon: Few Clicks

    VERY RARE LINUX USERS' PERK

A dev update from Easy Anti Cheat changing a lot in the Linux Gaming scene.

    • It will activate permanently from now on.
    • While active Dead by Daylight dev team click their mouse few times to make their game playable on Linux Distributions.
    • While active, game sales will be buffed
    • All features implemented within range of Few Clicks' aura will receive discounted development cost
    • Perk applies a multiplier to the player base stat
  • +1 this would be amazing - especially to be able to play on the Steam Deck when it launches. Epic makes it sound like enabling proton support is pretty straightforward:

"developers can activate anti-cheat support for Linux via Wine or Proton with just a few clicks in the Epic Online Services Developer Portal"
