I don't see a survivor quitting epidemic. From all metrics that we can see, the playerbase is doing just fine.
-
Entitlement is the reason.
BHVR keeps rewarding this kind of behavior. See Skull Merchant nerfs.
-
A crouching pig being able to see your aura when close to you isn't really a problem. She has sound clues and you can still see her approaching. Plus she moves slower.

And what is your solution? Just removing it would lead to long dragged out matches and you can´t expect that survivors won´t do that.
An idea would be that hatch opens after charging a progress bar by the survivor hiding near the killer or while being chased. Then instead of having killers be able to close the hatch it becomes a race of the killer finding and downing the survivor before hatch opens and they can escape via it. The hatch location should become visible so killers can try to run survivors away from the hatch and survivors know where they need to escape once they built up the progress.
This way you get a sort of final confrontation that you see from Horror movies while removing the rng nature of the hatch.

I wrote some big long response to this, but I want to ask why you think hatch is the problem before writing things so that I'm not making assumptions. Why do you think hatch is a problem?
Hatch is what leads to slugging for the 4K which is the criticism that Finisher Moris have. As long a hatch is an RNG mechanic that can gift a survivor an escape by being lucky, killers will feel forced to slug to earn a 4K.
-
The finisher mori is not the problem. It's hatch.
-
Honestly, I'm not sure there's actually a fix to tunneling, camping out slugging. They are tools the killer have to build pressure and removing them would require an actual game overhaul which isn't guaranteed to be worth the dev time when the game has a stable playerbase.
-
customs already let you use everything without needing to unlock it. So I don't see why customs need to be a place to earn bp
-
The main objective of the killer is to kill survivors and the main tool to do so is hooks. If hooks were sparse then it would be significantly harder to kill survivors without survivors needing to intervene to rescue their teammates which would be a bad experience for killer.
We already see enough complaints about slugging and all less hooks would lead to is more slugging.
-
@Skillfulstone said:
The Finisher Mori actively incentivizes slugging for the 4k (slugging the 3rd Survivor and leaving them alive in order to search for the 4th Survivor, often leading to ≈4 minutes of boredom which ends by a mori or bleedout) which makes most games end in a whole lot of wasted time and/or a mori animation which everyone has seen dozens of times by now.
People going next/DCing before being last/during the animation is a result of people being sick of most of their games ending in several minutes of nothing followed by an animation that often feels like the Killer equivalent of Survivors trolling at the gates.
The Finisher Mori, as it is currently implemented at least, adds little of value to the game and encourages unhealthy/boring gameplay. Rewarding a 4k, no matter the means, increased slugging (the forum threads speak for themselves) and made many people prefer dying early over being one of the 2 last Survivors.
The reason people slug for the 4K is due to how the hatch works. Removing the finisher mori will not change this.

for now. But there is a reason there is usually a bonus for survivors most of the time.
The survivor bonus doesn't mean much given the game needs 4 times the number of survivors then killers. The bonus should generally be on the survivor side as the game should always need more survivors to queue up when both sides are in a good spot.
-
Being chased and being hooked are simply aspects of the game you are playing. If you don't like the killer chasing you and you can't stand the idea of being eliminated in an elimination game, then I question why you keep playing.

The DC system in DBD is one of the most terrible I've seen.
Imo it's a perfect example of theory that doesn't hold in practice. It's crazy how many obvious flaws this system that have still not been patched after years. And some people still naively defend it thinking it disincentivizes giving up early, when giving up on hook has never been as high…
The thing is, griefers who really want to DC easily circumvent the penalty system. They can give up on hook or going AFK, both heavily penalize the team as they won't even get a bot.
In contrast, someone who has actual connection problems will take the full penalty, even though they'll leave much later in the match, and give a bot, hence being a lot less detrimental. Contrarily to one might believe, the penalty system is quite severe, even though the first penalty is only a minute, it only fades out after 24h which means in reality you can DC at most once per 24h, which is really not lenient if you play a lot, you will eventully get the 15 min from time to time. Meanwhile again, griefers can give up on hook with no penalty, then DC at the end of the day, they can do that every day and if they play only 1-2 hours per day, they'll never hit the penalty.
Another "hilarious" consequence of this system was when big streamers like Otzdarva got held hostage for entire hours by hackers, yet they couldn't leave the game or they would get an even longer DC penalty. Once again, this penalty never works in practice. It seems to only punish normal players.
I used to complain a lot about this system but just like so many things in this game I simply gave up on logic and decided to not care. I have stable connection so whatever, I'm not affected.
Or at least I thought I was not affected, until now. Because apparently we can't have functioning servers for Christmas, so now half the games start with 300 ms ping for everyone, and I can't even DC out of these matches as the killer. So I waste 10 minutes in a match where everyone only point to hooks, begging for me to kill them because they don't want to play either, yet nobody can leave the match.
tl;dr: REMOVE THIS STUPID PENALTY AT LEAST UNTIL THE SERVER ARE FIXED PLS.
If there was some mass server problem that was causing people to disconnect, BHVR would turn off the penalty as they have done in the past. If you are experiencing connection issues, it's likely something on your end.

Having to go a full 6 months without major content is simply way too much to ask for, I'm afraid. A compromise would be to dedicate an entire midchapter to nothing but fixes to the game. But asking the community to go a full 6 months without a new killer or survivor? Yeah……no
We had a mid chapter that was only fixes. People complained there was nothing exciting about it.

stop talking nonsense. you can close your steam profile from comments, you can turn off comments in the game. if you play from other platforms, no one will ever write anything to you. We played for 7 years without an anon mod and suddenly when it appeared (because support was tired of considering complaints, obviously) trolls and cheaters needed it.
Yet if dbd is the only game where this is a problem it makes more sense to disable profile views from dbd only.
You can still report cheaters who are using anon mode
-
The penalty has to stay. If you think survivors suiciding on hook is bad atm, you've clearly never played when survivors and killers can freely shop for an ideal game.

We can ever only know Steam player numbers so it's a guess for the consoles, which are by far the majority of the playerbase. And as others have pointed out, DBD is eight years old now.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3862673#Comment_3862673
I think making a DBD 2 would be supremely difficult due to the licenses being a nightmare to make new contracts for across all the platforms.
I also seem to remember them saying they don't have plans for a DBD 2 either. Too bad, as is would allow them to drastically clean up the coding, maybe add in cool stuff like a match replay system, scoreboards, etc.
I don't think a dbd2 is guaranteed to be a better game. Like payday3 flopped while 2 was regarded as a good game despite flaws of the engine.
-
The game is 8 years old. You can't really expect that it would keep growing at this point. The fact that it keeps a stable playerbase is already impressive.
-
As long as hyperfocus exists the way it does, stake out can't be buffed.
-
Why don't you explain what is too much instead of making vague complaints.
-
The hindered on legion stabs doesn't make any sense. Why would you chain stabs if the person you just hit is now slower and you cancel faster? You would just frenzy against a healthy survivor and hit them twice to injure and slow them and get knocked out of your power. You're just removing the power fantasy.
Nemesis buffing zombies to kill using the tentacle strike will just make players not want to play Nemesis. No one plays Nemesis for barely useful ai companions.
All these changes will do is push players away from these killers and lowering killer diversity.
-
Darkness revealed isn't a perk you can get consistent value from due to how maps can range from lockers everywhere to huge locker deadzones.
It hardly needs a nerf when it's not even reliable.
-
You can say that you find current twins unfun, but I don't see how any of your suggestions actually make playing as Twins more fun.
-
@GeneralV said:
Well, I'd point out the fact that Skull Merchant reinforced the precedent, but she didn't create it. Freddy did, when he was nerfed a week after his release. Yes, one week after release.
But yes, I think you're correct here, my friend. Skull Merchant's recent nerf was easily one of the worst, most unnecessary changes I've seen in DBD since I first started playing, and if a killer can be nerfed for reasons completely unrelated to actual balance, then no character in the game is safe.
The main difference between Skull Merchant and Legion/Freddy is that BHVR said it was intentional to get people to stop playing Skull Merchant were a statement like that was never said around those 2.
-
IMO, the increasing hook stages by 10 seconds granting an additional 20 seconds of hook time for each survivor was unnecessary. It outpaces the increase of 10 seconds per a gen and helped tilt the scale backs towards fast gens since hooks now provide less time pressure.

Making a game that is fun for EVERYONE is objectively a good idea. I challenge you to enjoy survivor, when the only thing you can do is crawl. you can try it out as killer even, if victor gets crushed by a survivor, you are now not allowed to do anythign besideswalk incredibly slowly. set a timer. EVERY single killer has had aspects about them updated and changed to make matches more fun for each player, it isn't the end of the world. And i also said DEBUFF the survivors upon hitting them. make gens hella slow, healing hella slow, etc. there are so many options outside of "bleed out for four minutes".
and i was using legion as an example because they also can injure multiple survivors extremely quickly. like victor. Would you like me to use other killer that also have a mend mechanic as well?
so do you not view killers as part of the "everyone"
-
I don't think it needs to be tweaked.
Cheaters and people saying toxic things in end game chat can still be reported even if they turn on anon mode.
-
It's funny how some parts of the community care so much about the gaming dying. Weird how a game can be dying for years and still hold a 30-40K players on steamcharts.
-
Ghostface is one of the worst killers in the game. Last thing he needs is nerfs. At the end of the day he's just an M1 killer. Just loop him.
-
Considering Blight and Twins chapter around the pandemic were littered with bugs and Twins practically made the game unplayable. I would say BHVR has improved.

Hardly absurd. Let's say someone with a massive platform like Hens or Ayrun decided to do this. It always propagates from there.
But address the hypothetical rather than deflecting. Assume that a meme started where people decided that they didn't like playing against Artist. Forget the specifics. A case where a killer that isn't OP (Artist) became disliked for some reason.
Should Artist be given the same treatment as SM?
I'm all for making common sense changes to balance an obviously broken killer, but this wasn't that. This was burning a killer to the ground rather than a few small changes to reign them in, with the express purpose of people not playing that killer - likely for multiple years, possibly indefinitely.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3858106#Comment_3858106
This is why the SM gutting is so frustrating.
It's not just Mandy gloating about it on a stream or that it was clearly done in a cynical, meanspirited way that goes beyond a simple overreaction.
It's not that BHVR had their arms twisted by a manipulative and petty portion of the playerbase, setting the precedent that all survivors need to do to get a killer nerfed is creating a meme.
It's that SM mains know, fairly conclusively that 'next year' will turn into 'it's on our radar but no changes are expected at this time', to 'we'll revisit it in 2028'. It's all but a certainty because that's BHVR's track record.
See also: Freddy rework.
And when the rework does come around, it could end up in a Twins situation where the quality of changes didn't justify how long it took for them to drop on a ptb only to get a few minor qol stuff since the ptb changes were just not thought out at all.
-
We're long past the days of people playing chill during events. Fact both sides have people who play to win which ultimately makes events nothing more than just skins.
-
As long as hatch remains a purely rng mechanic that grants survivors a free escape, killers will always find it better to slug for the 4K.

I actually had to look cuz that seemed so ridiculous to me and yeah idk if he's baiting or what cuz that's such an insane thing to say.
Nurse, Blight, Billy, Spirit, Artist, Oni, Plague, Singularity, Twins, I could go on but you get the point. There's no way Houndmaster is anywhere near the level of any of these killers. No idea what Hens is smoking
Anytime a new killer comes out and is strong. Content creators love to rush to "wow this killer is a new top 5 killer" then a couple weeks happen and suddenly that killer is no where to be seen.
It happens so consistently that I just can't take any content creator's opinions on the game seriously.
-
The RPD is just a bad example since that's any killer with a power to hit over pallets will win at that specific pallet.
But also what's different than any other killer who can hit you during animation?
-
if they are baby killers you shouldn't have difficulty beating them
-
I know some people warned about this exact same thing (I was one of them).
People downplayed it, because they hated skull merchant so much they couldn't didn't want to acknowledge how it will be used again. I'm just surprised it happened so soon.

I think map offerings should only be used once every 24 hours and once for each side. The reason I don't think they should be removed is because of Achievements/Trophies.
This would only help if you consistently face the same opponents

Taking a hit seems like a pretty stupid idea, since being injured means he just downs you with a basic attack anyway. But now you're making extra noises and leaving pools of blood everywhere.
MAYBE that would work with bite the bullet and self care, and you pretend to be a bush.
Like other people have said, he's still an m1 killer with no chase tools. If ghostface is winning chases easily against you, you should be struggling against every killer.
-
Removing Anon Mode wouldn't remove cheaters nor does anon mode make it harder to report them.
This is just looking for something to blame.
-
Nah. Sac Wards aren't refunded if no map offering is used, so I see no reason why map offerings should be refunded. That's just the risk you have to deal with now that sac wards are more common.
-
Weave requires the killer is running Franklins. That is half the killer's perk slots dedicated to make a single perk work. The counterplay to the perk being pickup items and throw them into the corner is very effective and since survivors see the auras of items on the ground for free there's no excuse to not being able to play against weave.
-
Ghostface stalk already has a range cap. I don't see why a killer who only does 1 thing needs that 1 thing nerfed when he's already one of the weaker killers in the game.
-
@JimbusCrimbus said:
It's more so spite on the survivors part. 99% of the time when this happens, the survivor is dead to rights, and the game is already over. All you're doing is being a child.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3853421#Comment_3853421
Yet survivors expect killers to give them free chances by not tunneling etc.
I'm aware many survivors do. I personally don't think killers should be expected a certain way either.
-
The tombstone addons shouldn't exist the way they currently do, but no one is a bad sport for not wanting to give their opponent free kills.
-
This isn't anything new. People will flock to whatever is an effective build when people start talking about it. I remember when DH had a 75% usage.
-
Map Offerings should honestly be removed IMO, but with the change to make sac ward common you should be able to spam them which will stop all but a 4 man squad putting 4 of the same map offering. But at least it means they can't also control basement/hatch spawn as well.
-
I went with BG3, because the bg3 devs have only added free content to the game over the past year when they didn't really need to and they just announced adding new subclasses for each class in the game.
