I can't blame any Killer for going hard. You don't know if you are facing a tough team until it's too late and you lose 3 gens.
If they’ve downed each player at least once within the first few minutes, I think it’s probably safe to let up a little. Continuing to go hard against players that obviously don’t have a chance is literally overkill. I think these players have clear emotional problems that have nothing to do with the video game.
-
It isn’t bad to try hard. I think the worst is dealing with killers and survivors that already have the skillz to pay the billz but then choose add-ons that make them completely OP and unfun to where you quickly decide that there isn’t even a point in playing beyond first hook. Rank 1 Huntresses with iri hatchets or Wraiths with the addon to see auras while cloaked, for instance. And then piling on ruin and tinkerer so that not even one gen gets fixed. It wouldn’t be so bad if the killer exhibits some form of playfulness but most are so damn serious about it all.
-
I always run small game and not too long ago I ran all around a map at the beginning and it took it took an unusually long time to have the perk activate. I’m almost certain none of the other players got to them first. It was weird. There’s also times when I’ve been convinced one had spawned within walls or rocks making them inaccessible.
-
I just used NOED tonight with Ghostface because I needed to earn the rift challenge of making a sacrifice during the EGC. I’m not a particularly good killer but my rank is still in the double digits so I usually steamroll most of the survivors I’m matched with and rounds rarely last that long. So I removed my usual gen slowdown perks and went with NOED which I never choose. I couldn’t think of a more reliable way of completing that challenge, and even though I was only aiming for the one sacrifice, NOED wound up giving me 3K. Turned out that 3 out of the 4 players were red rank and should have known better not to gen rush.

No it's not. Its a crutch. If you use this you'll be depending on it and that's not good.
That logic flies in the face of the way most people learn new skills. In order to learn how to ride a bike kids use training wheels. They don’t keep using training wheels once they learn to keep their balance.
-
I’ve only begun playing her for the Rift and yeah I suck too. But somehow I’ve been passing her challenges with little trouble. Most of my rounds have been zero kills except for ones one The Game map. Seems like the perfect place to use Nurse’s calling, but I couldn’t have gotten 3K and 4K without the use of Ruin.

How is it "lack of imagination"?
A shapeshifting killer would simply just suck. They'd be unplayable against swf (because the survivors can just ask each other who they're with) and it would only work a few times against solo-que players before people start catching on. Unless the shapeshifting killer had some sort of strong secondary ability to make up for their first one sucking, no one is gonna play them.
It’s a lack of imagination because you can only imagine one scenario where impersonation might fail against an swf group (which btw most players don’t play swf). There are other scenarios that can happen where verbal communication wouldn’t solve a damn thing. But again, you need to have an actual imagination. I’m not going to do your thinking for you.

Why does shape shift have to mean stealth? Literally just have it shape shift into different forms. Like give it 2 or 3 modes of attack. Just think of a killer who can m1 in one form have some sort of crowd control in another and then a ranged attack in the 3rd. Make em a 110 or even better make them the only killer that can at will switch between 110 and 115. M1 is reserved for 115 and the other 2 ideas are reserved for 110.
You’re right, and it doesn’t. You also make some very good point on how to create a shapeshifter that wouldn’t be walked over by an SWF group.
See? This is what happens when people begin using their brains and imagination instead of immediately shooting ideas down as “impossible”.

Yeah but his main aggressive power is countered directly by comms, the secondary ability would also be underwhelming too
It just isn’t meant for this kind of game
How would shapeshifting be considered “aggressive”? Ultimately it isn’t any different from any other stealth ability. Wraith’s cloaking ability isn’t that effective either. It doesn’t fool anybody. But it’s what makes him unique. It’s the other abilities aside from stealth that makes killers like Myers, pig, and wraith deadly. It would be the same for a shapeshifter.

But for spine chill all you have to do is look away when approaching a survivor on a generator or hiding.
And? So?
Honestly I don’t understand your point. Not all counters are foolproof but that doesn’t mean they’re totally ineffective.
That said, I have never and I mean ever been completely surprised by Pig while running spine chill. Ever. If he has ever gotten close enough to use his pounce it is because I allowed him to. Pig entering spine chill range without him setting it off at least once is extraordinarily unlikely.

The ambush itself is, the stealth is what you are going to use most of the time and is actually pretty useful.
Not against somebody using spine chill, which is probably most of us. Stealth is handy, but can be countered easily. Shapeshifting could have the same ability of shutting off terror radius and could even be made to deactivate spine chill for added effectiveness. The visual aspect of the power is only part of what could make it a good killer to go against.
-
@Yords said:

Well then he just has a part of his power that wouldn't work once a team figures it out. He is just missing out on a part of his power. Imagine if the Pig didn't have her ambush, she wouldn't be able to use a big part of her kit.
Even without being in a swf her ambush doesn’t usually amount to much. Good thing she has her traps.
-
For instance, shapeshifter enters a group of players, hits one of them: FLASH! All players are blinded for one second. When they can see again, there are two Neas. Which is which? Think fast before you get hit. Even an swf group would have a hard time communicating fast enough to counter something like that.

Tell me some of your ideas for a shape-shifting killer that can work when discord exists instead of saying I lack imagination.
Already did. Shapeshifting wouldn’t be the only power. There are plenty of killers whose primary abilities don’t work against swf groups. That’s what add ons and perks are for. Shapeshifting doesn’t have to work long term to be effective. Even a couple of seconds can mess players up.
-
@Yords said:

SWF completely eliminates the possibility of a shape-shifting killer
That just shows your lack of imagination.

- Trickster doesn't always mean they know some magical stuff to trick people, infact the new killer is a killer who does tricks with his Kunai's and his Baseball bat, with him throwing alot quickly and, with the add-on, can have him bounce off the walls, and he literally spins a baseball bat when doing a recovery attack
- SWF would completely slaughter a ShapeShifter killer
Swf can potentially slaughter ANY killer, but just because it’s a shapeshifter doesn’t mean that it couldn’t have any other abilities. He could cast illusions as well along the lines of Doctor or Freddy. A character like this could put paranoia through the roof.
-
@QwQw said:
- That concept would never work in a game like dbd.
- The Trickster is called that because he preforms tricks with his knifes.
1) Never work? Why? It’s just coding. Killer takes the shape of the person they wound. How hard is it to change a skin? No harder than developing any other power I’d imagine.
2) I know the rationale behind why he is called that, and it doesn’t change that its a crap name for the character. Plenty of other people have given more appropriate titles for him.

Did you actually read the lore? Dude was always up with knife tricks ever since he was a child, and carried them into adulthood in his career.
And he didn't burn his bandmates alive, he *allowed* them to burn alive by neglecting to help them.
So what? Throwing knives doesn’t make a person a trickster. Read up on the mythology behind the word. Tricksters shapeshift. That would be a far more interesting killer than what we got here.

That's why the proposed indicator wouldn't say if there's a hex or not, only that "Hey, at least one totem still stands." Killers would recieve more information.
Doesn’t matter to me, I still say no. Any information at all about how many totems there are is detrimental to a killer that relies upon hexes.
-
As a survivor main (but occasional killer) I’m against having an indicator for hexes. Survivors already have enough things to help them survive. Let the killers keep the few things that benefit them.
-

I mean...it doesn't stop me from gen rushing. I do all the gens and then I break one totem.....
I just remember most totem spawns or their locations as I play the game so I can check quickly later on. Even easier if I have hunch or a map equipped which are easy enough to have.
I guess it slows me down a few seconds, and 14 more to break it but I mean, if that costs a perk slot I have no issue with it. Sure it demolishes a lot of solo queues though, but I mean, what doesn't?
I don’t get that logic. There are 5 totems spread out all over the map. What are you going to do, run all over the map looking for lit totems once all the gens are done? Because that’s exactly what you’re going to have to do if you don’t get lucky and NOED spawns at the first or even second one you see.
-
I let the last survivor have the hatch for a variety of reasons, but I won’t ever give it to a person that flashlight stuns me. That person gets the hook no matter how many others d/c.

I've heard apparently some people think the teabagging in that scenario is them saying thank you.
Pretty much. There isn’t a whole lot of ways to communicate thank you other than maybe leaving your item behind, which to me is a silly offering unless its a crap item.
-
It’s still a little bugged. I just hooked two people in the basement but it gave me credit for 3. Guess they’re trying to make up for the fact that once I got 5 in a round but got a big fat zero for it. Lol
-
I didn’t have a rough time with it. Got it in 3.
-
Lol. I just learned this the hard way. Stupid me!
-
I think of it more as a neutral idea. It doesn’t help or hurt the game in the slightest.
-
Sometimes I’ll die and give them the hook. It depends upon how the game went. If you were a ######### player I’m going to struggle to the bitter end in the hopes the killer finds you.
but lol: “the sewer of solo queue”. You mean “the game where the vast majority of players play”.

I keep trying the thorough destruction challenge (damage 10 gens/pallets) and despite keeping tracking and kicking gens plenty of times and keeping count, it’s still not giving me that challenge. I don’t know what to do. I’m a survivor main so I don’t have a huge amount of perks to work with for killers. Any tips? Is this challenge bugged?
I got that done in one, and had used Tinkerer to let me know when gens were being used. Whatever you do don’t make the mistake of using Ruin. You won’t get the prompt to kick the gen as long as the totem is up. I used Tinkerer, Nurses Calling, all ears, and Whispers on Ghostface, which a primary focus on keeping people wounded so they’d be more concerned about healing than gen rushing. But if they tried to gen rush instead of healing I’d still get the alerts. The longer you can drag out the round the easier the challenge becomes.
And don’t be stingy by denying pallet stuns to survivors. Just take your lumps and break those pallets asap.
-
I appreciate that they’re trying to do something different with this killer, but he still isn’t my cup of tea, either. Trickster is a poor choice for his character and I don’t really see how his knife flinging fits with his backstory. He should shoot flames or something if he burned his bandmates alive.
-
Reminds me of the cheesy 80s hair band, Trixter.
-
Apparently some people think so. I tried Oni for the first time last night and two out of 4 players disconnected on me at last hook. lol

what I dont get? The logic of some people. Cant read and understand?
I can understand perfectly well when a person explains what they mean in a coherent fashion... something that you have yet to do. When you say you don’t “get” other people’s logic it would help if you gave examples. Not even “Sherlock” would be able to deduce whatever the hell you’re trying to say, if you’re even trying to say anything at all.
-
I don’t have a problem with it, and I’ve died many times because of it. It’s a terrible feeling to willingly take a protection hit for someone you unhooked thinking that you still have a chance to get away only to have some other counselor fix a gen in that exact second and you go down due to NOED. I always run Small Game but that said, if all four survivors simply kept an eye out for totems and cleansed them as soon as they’re found then NOED would almost certainly never become a problem.
-
It shouldn’t matter if you use For The Record (or any other perk for that matter) as long as you have Empathy equipped. I haven’t tried this challenge yet but from all I’ve heard I’m beginning to believe it’s bugged. On paper it looks like it should be an easy challenge to complete. Maybe you need to fully heal them from the dying state, not just get them back on your feet. Also, if two players are healing one person maybe that messes it up, too.

I said Hex Totems, not regular totems.
Well they’ve never asked us to do that, so...
I admit some of the challenges are tough, but to date I have managed to pass all of the survivor challenges in every rift to date and I’m not even among the best players. They’re all entirely possible, you just need determination.

It's not about being easy. It's totally out of your control.
It'd be like if there were a challenge that said: "Cleanse 4 hex totems. Complete this in one Trial."
or "Grab a survivor out of a locker twice in one match." (This was an actual challenge IIRC)
It's not really skill based. It's totally in the control of your opponents. If a Killer picks up a survivor instantly, you can't pick them up from being downed no matter how skilled you are.
Kind of bad examples. I’ve actually cleansed 4 totems all by myself on many occasions. Grabbing more than one survivor out of a locker does seem a bit more like stars need to be in the proper alignment sort of thing. For every challenge there is usually at least one perk that will increase your odds of success substantially. You just need to figure what it is.
-
It’s weird that you had such a hard time with that challenge considering that the description says nothing about having to be in close proximity to the killer.

What don’t you “get”? Maybe you should stop being condescending and better explain what the hell kind of answer you’re looking for instead of starting a new thread and merely posting the word “title”. At the moment there is nothing to glyphs other than the challenge of looking for them. That’s all.

tome challenges equals ALWAYS lore now? I dont get your logic. And who are you to tell me what I know and not, #########
If you’re looking for a rationale behind glyphs then clearly that falls into the category of lore. If there is no rationale then the only excuse for them is for the challenge. Pick one.
-
It isn’t much of a challenge if it’s easy, is it?

You think people will take five hours out of their day to watch your video?
I don’t know. I’ll admit that getting the challenges done can be antithetical to escape. But maybe the point is more to have fun than always escaping. It is kind of funny how the healing challenge took considerably longer than I thought it would, but I still got it done through regular gameplay. I haven’t devoted even half the time that I did last rift but I’m already up to tier 22.

For me it is totally Midwich. Even if the killer bungles and lets all 5 gens be repaired, the exit gates are always in the same location and way too easy to patrol back and forth across that middle courtyard with no obstacles to get in the way. It’s also very difficult to hide once you begin the opening procedure.
-
PGTW is only good with killers that are good enough to end chases quickly. Ruin pretty much works equally for everybody.
-
It only makes sense that the killer knows what you’re carrying and you can’t see his. Your characters aren’t there of their own free will. They were abducted and not in an inherent position of power to “know” what killer they’re going to face.

You may be proud of that fact, but if you want to know the truth most people find that kind of thing sad. There are flavors in the world other than chocolate. Live a little.
