Read the thread, please. Guy in the locker with DS doesn't do gens only because you're standing in front of the locker, unlike the guy with DS on the ground. You have to eat DS in order to keep pressure. NEVER ignore DSers in a locker, it's a bad play.
Reread my statement, you shouldn't be chasing someone that just got unhooked and you shouldn't be standing Infront of a locker to start. They shouldn't be forced to run in a locker to begin with. You do not have to eat DS to keep pressure, that's not true at all. If anything you apply more pressure by going after someone on a gen or the unhooker. PGTW is great, I'm a rank 1 killer btw.

Just because you're chasing someone with active DS, doesn't mean you're tunneling.
And if you leave the locker they'll just walk out.
Agreed but more times than not you likely are. If they leave out of a locker then good, can the person play the game?? If someone with DS hops on a gen then more than likely you can catch them before they get to a locker and if so just leave them on the ground which is pressure.
-
Why are people so mad about DS+Locker being a thing. You shouldn't be chasing someone that just got unhooked in the first place - if they go in a locker just leave them be, they aren't doing a gen or anything useful. A valid point is that it's killer immunity but even then just slug the person. It's a free escape in endgame is a bit of an issue, so it's probably smarter to eat the DS earlier.
-
Yeah it's sorta dependant on where the person is but in general, or atleast for me and I have great headphones - I can't hear people walking on the dirt. Now if they're on something metal or breathing loudly from running yeah.
-
Lag switching and lagging are very different things. When someone lag switches, everyone's game will freeze and the killer can do as he pleases. When it comes back, you'll be down getting picked up or something that's complete bs.

As an experienced spirit, I can tell you that Iron will is great. Unless the person is running while injured or by grass.

That's fairly strong but it's nothing too crazy. Now prayer beads Spirit, Irihead Huntress and triple blink Nurse is something to actually cry about.

Myers is eh. I actually mained him up until I got into red ranks, where he gets slapped. Overall he's mid-tier.

At everyone who says pipping means winning. Who won the match if nobody pipped? 🤔
Then it's a draw lol. The game literally has a "win, draw, loss." With it's pipping system.
The game has a pipping system for a reason, people are way too concerned with the endgoal without any concern as to how they did along the way which is never ideal anywhere. Even if you 3K, if you camped and one hooked all of them the game will ultimately see it as either a loss via depip or black pip, draw thus no progress. Do not be fooled.

I've already given you some examples of games when 'winning' and 'playing well' don't coincide. I could continue to give you plenty of other examples if you like. You've also brought up 'real life.' Even in real life, even if you believe you've done everything correctly during your time in primary education, there are times when you are not selected for certain colleges or universities. Even if you have an outstanding resume, you may not be selected for a job/higher position you wanted. Sometimes you are just unlucky and they are currently looking for someone with a prior experiences or different skill sets, or even different sex that are more suited for the task - other times there are just better candidates who excel at the same things you do, but even moreso.
Life doesn't automatically just hand you a "win" just because you think you *deserve* something because you've done well. That is life. Games are an excellent way of teaching you that.
I don't promote the idea, no matter how literate or how "correct" it may be in a sense because it's unhealthy overall and stifles new/bad survivors.
And herein lies the problem. You don't care how "correct" the point is because you believe it's "unhealthy" for the game. So you have chosen to prioritize what you believe and *want* over what is "correct." At that point, there is no further reason to discuss this, given that you have shut your eyes and closed off your ears to what is correct.
You're not quite getting it and your analogy is off. The idea of telling survivors "you survive then you win." Even if they did bad is like saying, in a real life scenario "If you graduate then you win" But they had all D's and nearly flunked. Like sure, the person graduated or survived but what on earth is the point if you nearly failed in the process or did poorly? You will find very little if any progress.
Sure, life will never hand you a win but that isn't the point. The people who do well or contribute a great deal will always be far more likely to do better and progress accordingly in a game or life which is ultimately the point. The guy who just "survived" is barely making ends meet and will find little progress meanwhile the other guy who does well is far more likely to progress and proceed.
NOTHING is promised in life but the people who do better and work harder are far more likely to succeed or progress opposed to those who do bare minimum or "just survive." which you aren't getting. The mentality you have going into something plays a big role and thinking "as long as I survive even if I do bad is okay." "Graduating is all that matters even if I literally have all D's." Is very unhealthy and will ultimately get you no where. Hell, with that mentality you likely won't have the opportunity to get into Harvard or any great school to begin with. You're half assing in a sense and when is that ever good? Once again, this is common sense and adds up but whatever you say, to each their own. Just wanted to clarify.

Please don't incite this. Too many newer players ultimately decide that surviving is winning opposed to actually being useful during the match thus pipping. And I severely disagree with the notion that the game would still be the same if the pipping system wasn't a thing. That's simply not true, if it didn't exist then everyone would be too immersed and caught up in the notion of escaping opposed to actually doing well in a match because objectively there would be no incentive or point. The only thing to prioritize would be escaping.
Even though the winning condition (escaping) does not require players to play skillfully, they're also not mutually exclusive conditions. If a player want to win (escape) without any skills, that means that they have to rely either on 'luck' or 'skills of other players' - basically whether they win or lose is completely out of their hands. So if they want to win *consistently* then even without the pipping system, players will eventually have to take it upon themselves to learn how to play the game well. So yes, even without the 'pipping system' there certainly is a point to raising your skill level. Being skillful will help you win in a more consistent manner - it's just not necessary to win a match.
Winning SHOULD be pipping. The game validates this by having you move on to playing with and against better players. The classic idea of "you passed this level, so move onto the next, harder level." It does no one any good to be too caught up in surviving to only fall short of pipping points. You survive, okay ,but you didn't pip so in a sense you're stuck on the same level and not progressing. Which is generally considered a loss or neutral. Anything but a win.
That's simply a matter of perspective. If I were to escape but did not 'pip', I don't consider it as "loss or neutral." I simply take it that I won due to luck or other players' participation and that I need to practice more. If I were to die despite pipping, I simply take it that I lost, but I did perform well enough where I need to be playing with better players. What I don't do is delude myself into thinking that I 'won' despite not fulfilling the winning objective just because I did well in a game.
At red ranks, good players prioritize pipping and doing well. At brown/green ranks players just wanna live and escape. Then when they die to billy or flipping Myers or can't hit ruin skillchecks, they are the first to scream nerf. That in itself should speak volumes. I'm not gonna go back and forth about what the game says, but that mentality of "I survived therefore I won." Isn't a healthy one and never does anything positive for the team that I notice new or bad players typically have, putting the cart before the horse so to speak and this thread in a sense is validating that.
It's just common sense, not a dilusion or perspective. If you are in a bad spot in life or in a game (lowest points, not pipping constantly despite surviving.) and what you're doing isn't helping you progress then you are clearly doing something wrong or nothing at all. Usually the two ideas coincide, you do something right then you usually progress unless you're already in a great spot or there's no need.
There are so many brown and green ranks in this game that wanna get more bp a game, pip, etc but they don't understand that surviving shouldn't be the most important aspect or "winning" yet most of them have that mentality that they must live, even if it means doing little to nothing and hiding in a locker which eventually frustrates themselves and ultimately their teammates. Nobody likes that person.
I don't promote the idea, no matter how literate or how "correct" it may be in a sense because it's unhealthy overall and stifles new/bad survivors. Players that have a true understanding of how the game works see it very differently than most bad/new players for a good reason because they know what a win truly is and the game validates it by giving more bp, pipping points, etc. They get rewarded which you normally do for a win. That's just my two cents though, hope newer players just get it eventually.

@knell said:
Seems like @NuclearBurrito and @Fibijean get it.
The pipping system simply determines how well you did in a match, which in turn, then is suppose to match you with people in a similar skill level. It has nothing to do with the winning conditions.
The idea that you have to "play well" to win in a game should be debunked. There are plenty of games where active players' skills don't determine the outcome of the game.
For example, let's say you are playing Tetris against your friend. You are hitting 4-line Tetrises and multiple T-Spins. Your friend is clearing out few lines at a time, simply making sure he isn't topping out. Because you were building up the columns for a bigger multi-clear and your friend hit a small combo at the right time at the end, you top out. Who won? You, who displayed more skills, made more complicated moves, have tens of thousands more score points overall? Or your friend who only understands the basics, and have much less points, but who made you top over most likely due to luck? The game is very clear on this.
Let's also take a game of Werewolf, for example. A complete-newbie Werewolf who stays silent all game could still win, whether it is due to the other more experienced Werewolf bluffing his butt off, or simply due to luck and never being picked by the Villagers.
So how can a Survivor survive and still depip? It simply means that you fulfilled the winning condition without having to display any type of skill, or if you did, it was very minimal. Of course, this (not having done much in the match) also means that you probably shouldn't be placed in that skill level setting, so if the matchmaking is functioning correctly, you should be placed with your less skilled peers by the pipping system. The opposite (Survivor dying and yet still pipping) holds true, in a similar manner where you failed to fulfill the winning condition, but displayed enough skill to be pushed into a setting with others will higher skill level to have a more even match. That's all it is.
Ultimately, even without the pipping system, Dead by Daylight will still be Dead by Daylight. I wouldn't even notice a difference in the gameplay if it were made invisible. Without Escaping or Sacrifices though, this game wouldn't be Dead by Daylight.
Please don't incite this. Too many newer players ultimately decide that surviving is winning opposed to actually being useful during the match thus pipping. And I severely disagree with the notion that the game would still be the same if the pipping system wasn't a thing. 1) Nurse - she's the only killer that isn't vulnerable to being looped seeing as though she teleports/ignores vaults and pallets.
2) Spirit - She has some of the best chase potential in the game with the most mind games and great map pressure. She has great passives too.
3) Billy - Amazing map pressure, has an insta down to punish survivors making mistakes. That's pretty much it.
4) Hag - Amazing map pressure, she's probably the only killer where you can have all 4 survivors hurt if they're far from one another given they activate your trap and she has no bad map. She has great mind games and chase potential.
5) Huntress or Freddy - IMO it's a toss up really.
-
It honestly depends, for killer I wouldn't say it necessarily depends on the kills? But how I got the kills and how many hooks I got. 9 hooks but 1 kill is better than 3 kills and only like 3 or 4 hooks which is pretty big. I don't think most people actually get that. I also judge a win by how much pressure I'm applying to gens and survivors.

Nah, we’ll keep complaining about something that literally breaks the game unless you rely on meta killers (which, by the way, survivors complain about).
Only way to make things better
You do realize in like any game, at the top tier people almost always play meta right? This isn't anything new.
I don't think it breaks the game, if anything I think solo que should be brought up to SWF level. Some killers are very weak but there are always gonna be killers better than others, doesn't matter what the devs do and at red ranks players are gonna be using the best perks and killers, etc.
The killers in this game will never all be equally viable, period. A tough pill to swallow is that SWF is not going anywhere and complaining is never gonna change that. If you see a SWF just run your best killer with your best add ons and you should be able to hold your own. You won't often see strong red rank SWF's anyways.

Ayyyee...fellow PS4 player. Yep, I’m a console pleb.
I’m terrible at Nurse, I feel bad playing Spirit, and my frames drop A LOT while playing Hag. I’ve been playing survivor more often as of late so I’m not really focusing on killer. I usually transition between Hag, Spirit, and Plague. I’m at Rank 4 killer though so I can’t really play Plague against good survivors, I’ll get stomped.
When I get in the mood to play killer I’ll most likely be playing Hag and hope my frames don’t drop. She is highly underrated honestly.
What's your PSN? I'll add you. I see though, I'm horrible at Nurse but I don't take the time to play or get to learn her, she doesn't interest me.. And yeah, playing Spirit against solo que players makes me feel horrible. Hag is disgustingly underrated, s'why I main her. If you get good with trap placements she can be a very scary killer. I'm Corrupted-P1 on PSN btw.

I’ve dropped Self Care for Iron Will. It is so much better. It honestly should be more meta than it currently is. It isn’t only a counter to Spirit but it can throw off any killers tracking.
Don’t get me wrong...I like Spirit’s aesthetic and her lore but she is hell to go against. She’s not an interactive killer, she’s a bore to face. Red ranks are full of them too. I went against like 20 yesterday when I played.
Self care in general is eh at red ranks, waste of a slot tbh especially if you SWF. Yeah, IW is good in general especially vs Spirit and Nurse. Stealth is probably the best option vs them.
Yeah, tons of spirits in red rank but I don't blame them tbh. It's boring but that's how every game is at the top tier. She just requires good headphones and to train your listening a bit. I main Hag at red ranks though and I play on PS4. What platform you on?

Girl please...you must have short term memory because my profile picture was Spirit for the longest time. I AM a Spirit main (or used to be). I have mainly played her ever since she was released a year ago. I know everything there is to know about her. I don’t have to open my mind to anything I already know.
What are the downsides to using her power? None. Most of the time you’re still on the survivors tail and you get a hit regardless.
Nurse? Misses a blink and gets fatigue.
Billy and Leatherface have a cooldown when bumping into ideas.
Legion has fatigue.
Plague has a cooldown.
Spirit? Gets out of phase and still manages to hit a survivor with her 10 yard lunge. I have so many clips on lunges that are way longer than they should’ve been. Equip the Katana Tsuba and Wakizashi Saya and your skill on tracking is irrelevant because you’ll get a hit everytime with the lunge.
Windows aren’t a hard counter. Tf? She doesn’t even have a vaulting animation and you can phase around jungle gyms and catch survivors off guard. Simply moonwalking as any killer will mindgame a survivor. It’s not hard. Jungle gyms aren’t hard to play around especially as a Spirit.
I stopped playing her because I don’t wanna torture people by playing Spirit. She’s boring to face. She’s annoying to go against especially since red ranks are FULL of Spirit and Nurse.
I agree with most of this, I play a ton of Spirit as well and she doesn't have many weaknesses. Vaults are a decent option if you quickly vault then stealth back through it (unless you're hurt.) Your best bet is to run iron will and walk. That new Nancy perk will also help vs spirit.

Actually you can hear Spirit's footsteps if she's close. It sounds like a bear walking and the music cuts off if she phases and you're outside of the terror radius.

Okay so far you've called me a demented freak for wanting to be a power role as killer against 4 survivors. What a wonderful person you are. I don't want constant 4k's, but I don't want 0 chance games either where they just rush gens despite me still sweating my ass off.
That's another thing, why SHOULD I always sweat like hell when playing killer? Survivors don't sweat, it's super chill for them.
If you are sweating your ass off but you have 0 chances of winning, perhaps you should pick either a different killer or get better. Killer is power role but it's rough and can be stressful against equally skilled survivors. It's not gonna be easy, playing killer isn't meant to be for everyone. I played Evolve in GB ladders with top tier players, if you think playing killer in this game is very stressful then HA.

Huntress could do with some QoL changes and Hag coulf use her base range extended. I still think Freddy should have his teleport at the start of the match but oh well. Also, Huntress is VERY map reliant.
Hag does not need a buff whatsoever. She's 4th best killer IMO. Freddy is fine as of now and Huntress is very map dependant true, perhaps they could make greater LoS areas in more maps but still, she's 5th/6th best and pretty solid.

You don't play much clearly
Actually I play a lot. I get rank 1 killer and survivior every season and I main Hag/Spirit. Maybe I'm just good at the game and don't whine about red rank SWFs to be some omnipotent gods that I should dodge and D/C when I see them.
-
I agree with this, I come from a long line of competitive communities in gaming but DBD killers don't seem to get it. Against 4 really good players on com, it's supposed to be hard. 4K is not how an average game should go. 2K is fine, hell if you hook a ton and give a ton of pressure you can get a black pip if you kill one person.
Now don't get me wrong, there are only a handful of viable killers at red rank and swf survivors do have things tipped in their favor. But it's not nearly as bad as most killers think. Haddonfield should get reworked and a few more killers should get something to bump them up but the game is by no means a stomp in survivors favor.
If anything, solo queue should be brought up to SWF level tbh then if devs wanna hand out nerfs they can but I don't think the game is in bad shape with regards to balance.
-
The new Nancy perk will be a solid response to spirit. I enjoy playing Spirit, she is very fun to play however I'll have to agree that there is very little counterplay to her. At red ranks I usually dominate with 3-4K's.
Your best bet is to use iron will and walk, as someone with great headphones - I can hardly hear a walking survivor. Q&Q+Lithe is great. I personally enjoy playing against the Spirit, and I think she has a neat design. I'd like to have more Japanese/mythical killers. Spirit has a lot more control than other killers, the game is more dependant on her making mistakes and just how good she is opposed to other killers.

Wow what an increase of all healing times can do to the perception of the act of healing if that heal isnt instant.
ALL healing except adrenaline got tweaked for the balance of the game, and suddenly "healing is bAd".
Back then ~84% usage rate for selfcare... " bad perk" ...
The tme you spend selfcaring is time you dont have to run around like a bleeding headless chicken, find someone, get their attention (hard to do if you're behind them)and then make them stop what theyre doing to heal you.
If you selfcare, that person can do generatrs the whole time you stand still and heal yourself.
Selfcare is designed to be weaker than medikits, who would use medikits if they'd be weaker than a purchase once perk? Thats the design. But selfcare can be used whenever you want, no need for item or anything.
Next time you're injured and got out of a chase, if you need more than 16 seconds to find someone to heal you, selfcare wouldve been faster. (Well obviously communication makes that easier, but thats the cwf issue, duh)
You clearly don't get it. People aren't saying healing is bad just to say it, the point is instead of healing most of the time - do a gen instead. If all 4 people heal that's a lot of time off of gens, especially if done multiple times. When you prioritize gens over healing then the game ends sooner which is far more beneficial for survivors. Yes, a perk can be good in one patch then bad in another especially if it's nerfed. Look at MoM.
-
Depends on the Elo. I recommend brown and green ranks to use it - you have to carry yourself at that rank and you likely won't be good at looping at this point so healing to that health state is worth it. But in low purple ranks and red ranks, Self care sucks and wastes time unless killer is slugging.
-
I play both survivor and killer, usually killer more (Mainly Hag and Spirit.) And honestly It's not as bad as people make it out to be. I can usually 3K/4K at red ranks unless it's SWF and they are very coordinated. Even then, I can black pip or hold my own fairly well and they'd have to be amazing. I'm usually rank 1/2 killer and survivor as well. It's not as inbalanced as people think, red rank 4 man SWF is tough and has the advantage but if you play top 4 killers you can black pip.
Killer mains are a bit exaggatory acting like as if when you see a red rank swf that you need to just drop your controller because the swf are like omnipotent gods. I will say, if you aren't playing top killers then I get that. I just think more killers should be viable but in any game there is gonna be viable and unviable things and a meta.
-
These perks aren't all that great tbh. But It's too early to call right now, we have to see it ingame and see what syngerizes with it. The only two perks that seem to be good are fixated and inner strength. Fixated is gonna hurt Spirit and Nurse a bit, or atleast spirits that don't use headphones effectively. Stealthing will be a bit more viable.
Inner strength could be strong, do a totem at the start and when you escape a chase just chill in a locker for 8 secs and you're healed. That's great for all stages of the game (early/mid/late) and keeps you from wasting time healing. It's gonna make sloppy pointless. Also, Make your choice is gonna counter Babysitter hard.

Hag and Huntress changed due to valid argument made. Clown and Myers is still pending but found no reason to switch them yet.
Yeah, Umbra which is like the best Huntress player - has said that Hag is better than Huntress. She can cope with maps better, smaller height allows for more mind games, has better map prescence, can snowball harder, etc.
-
The biggest thing I want people to take away from this is that most of these perks are dependent on the Elo/Rank you're at.
If you are in brown or green ranks then self care is good, you shouldn't be running adrenaline because all the gens aren't likely to be done, etc. At worse ranks, things like Deliverance, Borrowed time, Self care, etc become more viable because teammates and killers are bad. You need to be self reliant to get out of them. DS is pretty good across the board though.
-
Sorta.
-
Looping and "gen rushing" is just survivors playing efficient and doing their objective. Tunneling and camping is just ruining the fun of the game for others, including the killer. As a killer main, it does help to off one person quickly - it makes a world of a difference.
But tunneling one person the whole game and camping the entire time is bs.

You are correct he's a good killer, but he's not a top tier killer. SInce the gold standard for balancing is yet unclear to me as I have been offered numerous differing opinions, this was just another discussion in order to try and gauge that.
No. Freddy is pretty solid where he is, giving him the ability to teleport to traps would be insane and make hag pointless.
-
This post is nonsense. Yes, you should learn how to pressure survivors and the map but attempting to do so without ruin (Unless you're a nurse god or don't play in red ranks.) Is literally suicide. The point of Ruin is stall, having it up for a minute can make a big difference even if it inevitably goes down - it allows you to gain some momentum, pressure easier, etc.
-
Get a great pair of headphones for starters, they help tremendously tbh with directional sound. When I first started playing with Spirit, the biggest mistake I made was using phasing too little. Use it, use it, use it. Even if you're making the wrong guesses, keep using it. With practice you'll get better at predicting and you'll start guessing better based on what you hear and see. I also wanna note that survivors in your terror radius will not hear your phasing sound.
Add ons: personally I love the charge time add on. You can phase quickly with it, that add on, movement speed add on and moderate reappearance speed add-on are all GREAT to use on her. I also like recovery speed add-ons so I can keep using her ability. If you're making the wrong guesses then reappearance speed add-on will help with correcting your mistakes - but play around with different add-on's to figure out your own playstyle and what works for you.
Iron will and Quick & Quiet hurt Spirit a lot. It's the best counterplay for her so just keep it in mind, especially if you aren't able to hear people.
-
Hag is top tier and has a unique playstyle. She's fairly balanced and I don't think she should be adjusted in anyway.
@Raptorrotas said:
Yeah forgot the fact that she has to set up the teleport first.
She's fine but her teleport shouldnt stop momentum. Her teleport is a chase tool, not map pressure.
And freddy's teleport is a joke, in IdentityV thats a support skill with ~2 seconds max that can be used by ALL killers.
Her traps are a chase tool AND map pressure depending on the playstyle. As a Hag main, I like to juggle.
-
If you have great headphones you can hear fairly well? But I wouldn't advise it, the devs have intentionally messed with the audio anyways. If you wanna hear better than perhaps run stridor? Not being able to pinpoint where a non-injured survivior is gives counterplay and makes Iron will a great perk vs spirit. She doesn't need buffing.
-
I don't know why console players wants M&KB so badly, most games on consoles simply aren't optimized for it. You can play Nurse on console, I've seen great nurses on PS4 - granted it's rare but she's more than playable. It's just harder because of the frames and sensitivity issues but once you work out the kinks, you can play her just fine.
-
No.
-
Huntress is good, but she can suffer from bad maps and she has a huge skillgap. Perhaps the new Freddy isn't a bad idea?
