Again, nothing but irrelevant points. If you haven't setup a custom game, you have no idea if the other person is "trying hard" or not. You just like to tell yourself that because it sounds better to your ear than admitting that you are making other people miserable. There is a line here; on one side of it there is me, the guy who wants an evenly matched game and to earn my rewards. On the other side there is you, who wants "casual" games where nobody tries so hard but you reap the SAME rewards I do. Why do you feel you DESERVE the same rewards and progression other people have to work for? Where does this ENTITLEMENT come from. Where I come from, you reap what you sow and you earn what you get.

First of all, I tried to be polite but your language shows me that you won't stop being aggressive, so sit down kid and allow me to explain myself

What I want is to be able to have fun, unsurprisingly, you CAN have fun whilst the opposing side has fun. It is possible, in a CASUAL SETUP. I suppose you only sweat your games so you feel that it's impossible to have FUN in a video game.

In most successful games ever developed you CAN have the same rewards that sweaty people have, whilst playing CASUALLY. So what's your problem here? Am I the entitled one that I wanna have fun AND unlock stuff, something featured in literally most multiplayer games?

If someone has irrelevant points, then that would be you dude. I showed examples, games where you can unlock stuff whilst having fun. What did you show huh? You just said "oH yOu cAnT hAvE fUn AnD uNlOcK sTuFf!1!1!1!!1". I have evidence that it is possible, I showed examples. Show me your proof, come on then. You should be incredibly entitled to demand that other people must get less stuff because you tryhard on your games, and people who wanna have fun and enjoy themselves should go ######### themselves and play customs instead.

Yeah there are some that give you progress. Not denying it.

But then it would be the question about why kyf doesnt give you any bps, wouldnt it?

Also you spoke of maximizing your bps while playing casual. And even in your examples you said you get a lot more in ranked in those games. If you want to apply this logic to dbd it means you have to sweat for it in online mode.

    So you are left with

-sweating for a lot of bps

    -casual for a few bps

And the fact you can find games where you chill and get a lot of bps put of it, is the prime example of bad matchmaking.

Or you can add another mode that is a casual mode, where people don't necessarily take the game seriously, but that is something the devs don't want. If they add bp in a custom match everyone would abuse that.

So we can't have bp and exp granded in custom games, and we can't have two modes in dbd. So what's left?

Either we will completely destroy the fun that one side of the dbd community has so we can leave more place for sweaty players, or

The matchmaking should not be perfect so it can create fun games sometimes and sweaty games other times

    Am I incorrect?

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259169#Comment_2259169

Those other games are also irrelevant. What you fail to grasp is what is casual, i.e. easy for you is miserable for someone else. They are not having fun. The only way you get a "casual" game is if someone else gets a wicked hard one. Thus, MMR seeks to create balance. It means you and your opponents should be evenly matched and thus your rewards are EARNED.

You don't need to necessarily win a casual match. A casual match is basically a match where both teams don't directly intent to try hard. If you've played any other game that has two different modes, you'd know that. So, the other side doesn't necessarily has a bad time, does it?

Let me give you an example, I play pig and someone crouches and points at me. At that moment there are two different alternatives that we can picture, in the first of I attack the survivor which gives him the message that I wanna sweat, so in order for him to make the game less boring, he will either kill himself to try to have a more casual game, which is unlikely, or he will make the chase as lengthy as possible because he wants to give his team, which might be tryharding, a chance to tryhard and improve their ranks.

In the other scenario I will crouch and allow him to boop my snoot, giving him the impression that I don't take the game seriously. In that case most of his team won't take the game seriously if we all goof around and have fun.

I can try hard as ghostface, or I can constantly tbag during chases to make the game more fun.

In a lot of multiplayer games, the ranked mode features players extremely close to your mmr, whereas in casual the mmr is a bit more open, which makes fun and enjoyable games.

So no, I don't want easy games, I want casual games, where I can have fun and the other team can choose to have fun. Which will be extremely hard to do if I get faced with extremely high mmr people, won't it?

Also when I want rewards in a casual setting, I don't mean getting rewards when I bully a baby nurse, I mean I want rewards even tho everyone in the game was goofing around

  • @T2K said:

I have to say, I see it like @Moundshroud.

This goes for every game, not just dbd. If you want casual games centered around fun, you play offline, casual mode (like kyf), or you play online/ranked/competetive and get stomped for playing around. Theres no reason you should be provided with anything but fun when you playing around and want fun.

If you say you want to maximize your bps and at the same time have a casual game, its just a stomp game. And I can guarantee you most of the time at least one player has a miserable time.

I dont think its good matchmaking if one side gets stomped.

You just want two things that dont go well together in view of a healthy matchmaking.

In most multiplayer games you have the option to progress whilst having the option to either sweat or play casually, and it works. I can think only a few games where you can choose either the one or the other.

But I can think a ton where you can choose both. Examples: in rainbow six siege you can get points by playing a casual mode, an unranked mode and a ranked mode. The only difference is that you get a bit more points on the ranked than the unranked and casual. And it works for them (same with exp)

In league it's the exact same thing, you get more exp and a bigger boner when you win a ranked game rather than a normal game.

I would mention ow but I don't remember if the same thing applies there, even tho I'm sure it does.

Go through your games that have a multiplayer system and see if any of these have the same features I mentioned.

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259102#Comment_2259102

Your points are irrelevant, and nonsensical. Casual games are low stakes. You appear to want your rewards and have it easy, i.e. casual. It doesn't work that way. If you want rewards, you have to EARN them. If you want to play for fun, you can do that anytime you want. Quit pulling our collective legs.

It's also interesting that you've been increasingly more and more hostile. I apologize if my behavior is at fault here, but let me give a counterargument:

In almost every game that has rewards there is an easy and a hard way to get them. In most competitive games, you have more than two options, one of them is money, the other one is playing a casual mode, which gives you stuff, but if you play a ranked mode it gives you the same stuff....but more.

So what if I want to get rewards whilst having fun? Remember that in a videogame fun must outweigh the sweatiness. If it doesn't then the game will lose popularity extremely fast. Also, pardon me but, how big of stakes does dbd have? I'll leave that to you, but I think that the stakes here are extremely low. If you say that the stakes is how much pip you'll get, you describe every multiplayer game.

Also getting rewards "easily" isn't necessarily a bad thing now is it? Why shouldn't a casual player gain access to content because they're casuals? Every other game simply rewards you for being more and more competitive. So for example, if you want to reach level 100 from level 90 in league, you can either play a lot of casual matches or play ranked matches, which will give you more exp than casual matches.

You seem to think that having fun and getting rewards cannot coexist. But look at most multiplayer games, and you'll see that they coexist, and that's why they're popular. Videogames aren't designed as a grind simulator, they're designed to unlock stuff whilst having fun. If dbd turns full competitive without a casual system to balance it out, then we will have your philosophy which might destroy the game. The philosophy of:

You will either sweat to unlock ######### or have fun and don't progress at all.

    What I'm asking is:

You will either unlock stuff faster whilst sweating, or unlock stuff slower whilst having fun.

Ps: please explain what "quit pulling out collective leg" means, because I see that people don't entirely disagree with my points :)

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259087#Comment_2259087

Then quit lying and saying you want a casual game. Those aren't for progression; they are just for "fun" and nothing else.

Interesting that you didn't contest my points there. So you basically say that I don't want to have a game where it's casual and I can progress whilst having fun? I could be mistaken, can you please rephrase your sentence if I am? I'd appreciate it

  • Did that happen while the mmr was active, out of curiosity?

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258999#Comment_2258999

If you are playing to earn Blood Points and Rank, it isn't casual. You are going up against other people, not usually your close friends. There is nothing casual about that, and it is UNREAONSABLE for you to expect them to give you casual games. However, you can get casual games twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week with a Custom Game and everything you need is unlocked for you. And for the record, with literally five minutes of time (or less) on Discord you can have total strangers willing to jump on and play in your custom game with you.

All you have to say is, "I'm setting up a casual game right now for people who don't want to be sweatlords... any takers?" You will get more responses than you have room for. So let's put aside this false pretense that you want a casual game. What you want is an EASY game where your opponents are weaker than you and thus it "feels" like they aren't giving 100%. When in fact, many of them might be sweating as hard as they can, but you are just better than them. I'm sure they think YOU are the Sweatlords, when you think you are playing a casual game. Everything is relative.

Do you know why custom games aren't used a lot in most videogames now days? Because you don't have the satisfaction of progressing, it's just another party game.

What I said I want isn't to only have chill games, but to go in dbd with the mentality "I'm going to play some dbd games to chill and maybe finally upgrade my goddamned hag to p3"

Side note, you can't unlock prestige in custom games, which I'm unironically obsessed about. So stating that every casual player should play custom games, is basically asking half the player base to ######### off and let true sweaty gamers take their place. Which would hurt dbd, wouldnt it?

Also what are you describing is like what some people want, a casual option in dbd and a ranked option, which would hurt both the matchmaking wait times and dbd as a whole, that's why the devs said they won't add it. And what you're describing is even worse, because you won't even be rewarded with bloodpoints.

I really don't get why you think that way honestly, I admit I don't know how many people play dbd casually, but I bet that if you told that side of the community to play custom games because that will be fufilling for them, then they wouldn't really like that.

I don't play only to have fun, I also wanna feel the satisfaction of playing against someone whomst I probably don't know (even better if I know them and we meet randomly) so I can progress through the game, unlock new stuff and have a good time

Forgot to mention! Custom games don't even grand shards! So it will be impossible for someone to purchase fun characters without paying for them! And if you say that all casual players should buy stuff that could be purchased via in-game currency because they don't wanna spend time sweating, then that is really ######### up!

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258795#Comment_2258795

You can already do this; it is called a Custom Game. It can be as casual as you want and have all the restrictions and friendliness that you and your friends choose to setup. Don't kid a kidder.

You need 4 people online and wouldn't update your rank and bloodpoints gain

To put it mildy, telling people to play custom games to have fun, is basically saying to play custom ow so you can be creative, I mean yes technically you can do that, but why don't you have it available in the first place without having to stage everything out?

  • @Moundshroud said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/256096/the-real-question-is-do-we-really-want-a-perfect-mmr

So just to be clear, you define a casual game where you can win without working? Wouldn't that mean it is sweaty for the other guy? :)

I would defy a casual game as a game where you can equip anything as your load out and you would have a chance of winning.

Imagine league for a minute, if you don't know anything about league, I'll try to explain it. Imagine playing yuumi ad. Yuumi is a character where you literally rely on other players, since you can attach to them and make them harder to kill. If you play ad yuumi on a lane where you have no teammates (let's say the top lane) you will probably lose. You don't play yuumi ad on a ranked mode, you play her in a casual mode. Even if you play her like that in a ranked mode, there is a small chance you win, but usually you play your main. In dbd every game is a ranked game, which punishes diversity and creativity. And since we can't have a casual mode, more than half of everything we have available will be unusable for some players.

  • @fogdonkey said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258681#Comment_2258681

I see, so basically you would like to have two ranks, e.g. hard and casual, and you would always choose one of these before you queue up. You select it based on how you plan to play during the game. So basically almost like having two separate accounts, but it would apply only to the rank.

(In theory you could play sweaty on the casual setting as well, but then you would cheat only yourself, because your ranking would go up on the casual setting as well.)

That could be a cool feature.

Indeed it would be, but the devs said they don't want two different modes. So the mmr will basically ######### me in that situation xD

So the only way to remain in my rank would be to buy a secondary account to sweat. Which, not many people have the luxury to pay for a game twice, I assume this is the case for controller players

Why is MMR considered bad for streamers? I would rather watch them playing against survivors who are actually worth going against them than seeing them destroying random solo teams at 4 gens every game...

Imagine going into a survivor stream where they only face nurses and spirits, I would really not enjoy myself in that scenario.

Or a stream where they're forced to play killers with the safe perk loadout because if they change it they will lose. So it both destroys diversity and creativity

"Losing" for me is mostly having little to no blood points since I need them to p3 my hag, and also cuz I need to get all perks to all characters. So, when I say that I'll lose 30 matches, I mean that I will intentionally don't get that much bloodpoints so I won't pip, which will be a waste of time and resources. That's also the main reason that I don't like nurse, I love her, but I'm extremely bad at her. Even if I 4k, I'll lose a ton more bloodpoints than if I played pig or Hag. I know that my way of "losing" and "wining" is kinda bland and lame but I basically describe it as:

Your definition of winning/losing is not in question here, nor is it even relevant. As @Noz put it, you want to win even if you're not actually trying to, by going up against people who are below your skill level.

I think that the two opposing sides here are the people who are afraid that the game will turn extra competitive, which I believe it will, and will lose the feeling of "I intended to tryhard this game, but I'm having too much fun right now" and the people which believe that the MMR will actually not destroy this way of playing dbd, but it will actually include people who both wanna tryhard and people who wanna ######### around.

In this case I concede that I actually don't know on how it's going to work, and my concerns could just be something I shouldn't really worry about cuz it will work, or I could be rightfully concerned about the future of the game, because admittedly, I don't want another league of legends.

So, I think that we should give it a shot, if it works then great, if it doesn't then the devs can go back to the drawing board.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258685#Comment_2258685

If MMR works as intended, you should be trying your hardest every game, since the players around you are of equal skill. For me, I'd have to run meta on every Killer if I wanted to have a chance to win at my current MMR. That just doesn't sound appealing to me, and many other players have expressed the same sentiments.

But, if you enjoy that, I have no room to judge.

You should only be trying your hardest to win if you actually want to rank up, though. I play casually and went up with/against others who played casually, for the most part. Win or lose, I am always relaxed. Except in that one Nurse game because survivors don't know how to loop her and never touched a single generator. That one was annoying.

Publicity is an issue. A game without a large content creating community is a dead game. Think about what streamers like Otz, Hexy, Cope ect do for the game. I give them 6 months before they are as burnt out as Tru3 clearly is.

Can we not overstate the importance of "content creators"? Games were sold long before Twitch and YouTube were a thing and they continue to be sold now, even without them.

The issues are already known. Anyone with a reasonable understanding of the game knows that it is not balanced and certainly not fun at high Ranks. The issues have been pointed out but nothing has been done. I see no reason why BHVR would immediately start on a fix.

I literally agreed with your 8 months timeline. That's not "immediately". I'm beginning to think you're not reading what I'm writing.

Not having a visual indication only makes it slightly harder for people to abuse it. If you throw 20 matches and only hit 3 people, your MMR will plummet. I don't think anyone needs a visual indicator to know that and to abuse it.

However, as OP already so helpfully demonstrated, people who like to "sweat" do care if they win or lose, so they'd never do that on purpose. They'd try to find a way to game the system so they can still crush the other player(s), but without actually ranking up.

To be clear about this, the gaming industry did achieve everything because of both content creators and ads. Minecraft wouldn't be even close to popular if twitch wasn't a thing, would it? I could be wrong but I remember that the game became popular due to content creators.

  • @Noz said:

This must be the only multiplayer game where people want to do nothing but troll around and win at the same time, without having to actually try and that being somehow an acceptable position.

You either can have: A game where everyone tries to actually win OR a games where some people try to actually win and others just goofing around.

The effect of the later ( which is what dbd currently is ) is people complaining about: SWF, Tunneling, Camping, Dead Hard and so on.

Because for some reason people are not expected to try their hardest, if someone does not play on the same level of try-harding as they are, they are either: trolls or sweatlords.

You can get rid of this problem by accepting that people always try to play at that best, like most online games.

"But DbD is different!!!" No it is not, just because this is currently the culture around this game, doesn't mean it has to stay this way.

I'll admit that I picture dbd mostly like a party game rather than a tournament game, since half the roaster of both killers and perks aren't designed for the highest level of play.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258671#Comment_2258671

Because most people don't like losing, even for a higher purpose.

And there we have the crux of the issue: you say you don't care about losing, but you actually do, which is why you don't want the MMR. You want the freedom to choose between clubbing baby seals (when you don't feel like trying as hard to win as before) or going up against people of your own skill level. That's not going to happen, and I'm honestly glad it's going away.

    Stonks!

(I wanted to add a gif here but it didn't work :( rip)

For me a perfect game is getting as many bps as possible. If I get that my bloodpoint stonks go up and I can invest on p3ing hag faster, that is my end goal. If I intentionally lose bloodpoints so I can have more chill games, the stonks will go down, which will slow down my goal.

But I admit that I might be the only one that thinks that way xD

Assuming that win is a 4k or escape, then yes, this would annoy and hurt the casual community, probably. I can't say with certainty :/

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258667#Comment_2258667

I have another question: why should the game match you with potatoes just because you're playing Pokémon? At any point, you can put down the game and crush them all, which is definitely not fun for them.

    Thats a good argument xD

I love how all of you take the pokemon example seriously, even tho, to be fair, I've done that before

Long story short, a swf didn't wanna play the game cuz they were 3 of em and I had a 3gen as blight, so I completed the whole elite 4 whilst they were busy hiding in the basement.

I got a 30k bp game with bbq fully stacked a survivor pudding and a bps, so it was worth it in the end xD

  • @fogdonkey said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258633#Comment_2258633

And you can still do that, you will just not escape probably, your rank will go down a bit and that's it.

How should the game know that you are playing Pokemon at the same time and therefore you should be matched up with potatoes?

You're correct! There is no way for the game to know if I play Pokemon or not. But, just like in the previous example I gave to Orion, if I tryhard in a swf cuz we're preparing for a tournament, I'll probably end up in the top 1%, assuming we've been doing this for a week. After the tournament is over and after I return on playing casually, I'd have to lose more or less 30 games to get a medium MMR, not accounting the other players on my team who wanted to win and lost because I chose to play casually.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258633#Comment_2258633

Then you would lose while "playing chill" after "sweating" for a prolonged period of time. My guess, however, is that you wouldn't "play chill" for very long if you were constantly losing. Not many people say they don't care about winning and mean it. When push comes to shove, they'll likely try as hard as they can to win.

I agree, that I would lose if I played chill, but here's a counterargument:

I've reached red ranks with high MMR and instead of playing sweaty ghostface that I've been playing, I wanna play a game with perks that only give info without slowdown. I won't win that game. The game will be balanced around the top 5 builds for every killer, which admittedly is already happening, but at least now I have a chance that the rng gods will give me awful survivors, or survivors that just wanna have fun.

Also if I play in the top 1% (I'm not even close to the top 1% but let's assume that I am) then I'll probably get matched with nurse or spirit. No killer in their right minds will play any other killer and expect to win in the top 1%. So since more than half of the roaster and perks are not intended for higher levels of play, wouldn't that make all of em completely useless and unplayable?

The counterargument to that I assume will be "then just don't reach the top 1%". Well if me and my friends decided to sweat for a week to prepare for a tournament, then I'm already at the top 1%. So if I wanna have fun again I'd have to lose about 30 games in a row to get to a medium MMR and have fun, which isn't great is it? Because most people don't like losing, even for a higher purpose.

  • @Orion said:

Because both sides would have to sweat their pants off to win

No, that's not how the MMR would work. In practice, a perfect MMR would place you against people who play like you do. If you play without regard for whether you win or lose, making a lot of mistakes because you're not really thinking about the most optimal plays, and so on, you'd be matched against people who do the same. If you play to win every single time, you'd be placed against people who do the same.

So yes, I do want a perfect MMR.

If sometimes I play perfectly and sweat and sometimes I chill and really don't care about the outcome of a match? Wouldn't that break the balance of the MMR?

Think of it this way: as a survivor I can tryhard and pull off long chases. But other times I wanna play hook sabo claud and come out of a bush to ruin a killer's day. Sometimes I wanna play Pokemon alongside playing dbd because I really don't care about the outcome. A player doesn't only tryhard or playing chill, a player will play according to their mood.

Yeah I'm telling you it's worth it, I make off like a bandit!

    How to Counter Spirit:

Step 1: Play Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Nurse, Hag, Doctor, Huntress, Myers, Bubba, Freddy, Pig, Clown, Spirit herself, Legion, Plague, Ghostface, Best Dog Demo, Oni, Deathslinger, Pyramid Head, Blight, Twins, Trickster or Nemesis.

Step 2: You are now safe from Spirit killing you. Get countered!

You're incorrect. Spirit will always follow you on your worst nightmares where even Freddy shits his pants

  • If I see a survivor with colorful cosmetics then I instantly assume that they're comp players

  • Definitely not. I'd argue that the spirit, mechanically-wise doesn't need a nerf. Instead her counterplay needs a buff. My thoughts are:

Make it so you can hear the phasing sounds inside of the tr as well. That way the survivors will know when she started phasing and will be able to somewhat predict where she is.

Secondly, make it so when she hits a survivor, 75% of her power recharge get depleted (just like legion).

Thirdly make it so survivors can hear her footsteps again in increased volume, so they'll know more or less where she is via using sound.

  • Spirit, old Freddy, twins

Bhvr has made several mistakes in the past.

You're right I just like the headcanon bc I think it's a cooler explanation :)

Imagine the entity nicknaming the survivors as well. It'd be hilarious 😂

  • I would remove ruin for corrupt or something that matches your killer

  • Absolutely not. The game will be even more buggy and confusing for new players, not to mention that the devs literally said that they don't want a shape shifting killer.

  • I'm addicted to spine chill, so that's one perk slot out. I like borrowed time a lot so that's one more slot. I often use an exhaustion perk, so that's dead hard for you. And I'm left with one perk. Admittedly, there are better choices for me than alert, for example, I really like windows of opportunity, that gives a lot of info for what my teammates used. Spine chill basically tells me if the killer is coming or not, so that's everything I need right there :/

  • Third one is so cute

If it's Christmas tho, use the first

On your birthday use the second

    Bigbrain

  • I think it's a good addition, you take 3 seconds to create a new way to loop. And you don't really need to break all of them, the Freddy's Map for example has breakable walls in the building. You can either choose to limit your choices of entry (only in the middle) so they can also have limited options or open them and give survivors more options.

Sometimes? Every licensed map just sucks in terms of gameplay. Indoor maps should not exist, and this new one is surely gonna be the worst of them.

I like Freddy's map and the stranger things map is also pretty ok

    "Unnecessary"

    LMFAO

Found the person who's never played Bubba

^ this for the "unnecessary buff"

And secondly, if people want to use unfun mechanics that will probably lose them the game and make em depip, whilst having little to not bloodpoints, then the devs can't really do something about it. Dicks will always play in a dick-ish way

To be fair, the Realm Beyond Update was intended to be mostly a graphical update.

and -from a casual viewpoint- I very much enjoy these maps; but I agree there seem to be many balance problems.

i wonder what the terrain updates will bring though

Indeed you're correct, but by focusing almost exclusively on the graphical update, doesn't it destroy the balance of the game? It's like trying to play a game of poker when all your cards are colored from both sides, I mean they look cool but will it be fair for me to play like this?

My headcanon is similar to that, i think it's the entity who actually name them, even though the survivors never saw them they are able to recognize them instantly, like as if the entity slipped their names inside of their heads.

The entity is considered to be like an organism that the only thing it wants is to satisfy it's hunger, so I doubt that the entity would care about naming them. It cares about them getting their job done

  • "tunneling" doesn't really have a definition that everyone agrees with. So, for me, tunneling is specifically targeting a survivor to put them out of the game. Personally, many survivors randomly accuse of tunneling, and what I learned is that they rarely care about the reason. For example, if there is a survivor with a key, or a survivor that constantly appears in front of me, then you, as a killer, don't really have a choice but to put them out of the game. Unless you intentionally ignore them, which you can as a killer, but don't expect that the survivors will show you mercy.

  • As a Hag game I agree that this is the best way to counter her. As a survivor I constantly harass her webs, especially when she picks a survivor. Since her web will probably be built around a 3gen, harassing the web is infinitely more important than doing a gen outside of her 3gen
