If you start walking away while shes standing still, she will watch where you head for a few moments, but she won't have a choice but to phase after you. Meaning that a few seconds of walking away means she's phasing, so randomize your behavior considering that she can't see you. Also, you don't need to know where she is, only for her to be confused about where you are for a few seconds. You could walk away for a bit, then after a few seconds run back to the pallet, then vault it, or just start walking away from it again. Perks like quick and quiet would easily confuse her. You can also use spine chill.
But that's ignoring injured noises, footsteps and environmental ques for when a survivor is moving. Usually it's not hard to go back to the other side of the pallet while phasing either. Spirit is really just a game of simon says. You listen for sounds and then you slap down the survivor. The lack of information is why she has no counter-play. There's an equal amount of chance that she's just standing there waiting for you as there is her phasing towards you. While perks may help they aren't a fix nor will they be consistent. By that point you should just run full meta so that you have the best chance of escaping regardless of the killer.

The one problem with balancing around the killers base kit is that addons then can not make the killer any stronger at all, otherwise the killer immediately becomes op when played with addons if the killer is balanced and viable without addons. If every addon had just as big of a downside as an upside, this would work, but that's not how the addons are designed and that would most likely be insanely hard to balance when considering the amount of killer addons in the game.
Also, I have often seen many complaints about the addons of some of the newer killers not being good enough as well, which is pretty much the exact opposite direction of trying to balance the killer only around their base kit.
Regarding Billy, I definitely have seen people say that his base kit needs a small nerf as well, since he has so much going for him. I think the nerf is fine, as long as the overheat isn't to significant. If the chainsaw overheats too fast, his loop potential will be hurt too much, which of course isn't good, but giving him a small limit on his power usage is not a bad thing in my opinion.
It could be like how some of PTB Ghostface's add-ons were or Nurse's new ones. Something fun that adds to the power but doesn't significantly change it to an absurd level. Of course this is assuming the base kit is already strong on its own.

I just don't think he is as good as he should be especially the drawbacks for his iridescent add ons
Yeah his add-ons are pretty bad, but his power makes up for it. Once you learn how to use it you can get pretty inventive with the lunge. I used it on the game to get a meg across one of the drop off loops yesterday. I promise he's worth getting down if you have the time/patience.

There's no difference between a survivor who vaults and doesn't vault, they both run at the pallet meaning there's no way to know until you've decided what to do in response to them running at a pallet.
The answer is the same to both, your argument and the argument I made. It's about behaving in a random, unpredictable way. You should always assume when the spirit stands still that she is phasing, i.e. don't get close to her, run away, or walk away and avoid grass. You should always assume that the survivor is going to vault.
If the spirit stands still, assume she is phasing, if she tricks you then assume she isn't phasing. If the survivor fake vaults, assume they will fake vault.
What really comes down to for both situations is know both roles well enough to understand when and why players fake certain behaviors, then predict the fakes before they happen. Is a survivor within range to hit if they choose to vault? Assume they're going to fake. Is the spirit standing still at a safe loop? Assume she is faking. Start walking away from the loop, count to 3, assume she has started phasing to come get you, turn and run perpendicular to the direction you were walking in, or run back to the pallet. No spirit is ever going to stand still and fake phasing if a survivor starts walking away. They will assume you are going to walk away a certain distance, then begin to run hoping to conceal scratch marks. So many survivors do this, but they never seem to consider that once the faking spirit sees you leaving, they begin to phase within the next 2-3 seconds.
The thing with a pallet fake is that you can predict the survivor using it against you the next time. With Spirit it's just "well she's invisible now so I guess I should try to do something". When she phases and you're still at a loop she gets you. If you run away, she gets you. The problem is that there's no indicator of where she is. She can be anywhere and there's nothing you can do about it. A pallet fake may extend a chase by a few seconds at most, but even then if they're giving you trouble at that one area you can break the pallet and catch them somewhere else. Spirit is just a loss no matter what. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

Well with the way your attacking everyone who disagrees with your opinion, it seems you need to get better, instead of wanting nerfs for viable killers that already received them. Spirit and Freddy can be countered, just not w the same brain dead tactics that work on other killers because they can't really counter it.
I haven't attacked anybody. I'm simply pointing flaws in the points people made. Like I said before, just because something was nerfed doesn't mean it was fixed. Ormond is still completely broken even after the nerf. The only nerf Spirit received was towards 2 of her add-ons and a vaulting animation. These were steps toward fixing her, but not an actual fix to the core problem. I only asked that if survivors aren't suppose to use looping then what are they suppose to use? What specifically qualifies as "wits"? How are suvivors suppose to make sure their team doesn't die when they stealth around the map doing nothing? And by mentioning "Your 20 other second chance perks and add-ons" are you asking for them to use it to escape? That's all I asked from you. If I were attacking anybody I would've been banned off of the forums by now. It's all simple questions as to what you would like to see.

Have you not noticed the broken lunge hitboxes? And how easy his portals are to spot and close
Yeah I have. The hitbox changes are mostly to blame for that since there wasn't really anything to accommodate for it. I think if the little end part of the animation where his arms sort of fall down counted for a hit it'd fix him a little, but over all it's not that bad.
-
Because there's no way to tell if she's phasing or not. Its just a terrible design decision. Imagine if Demo just shredded instantly with no animation or wind up. There's just now way to tell what they're doing and you end up dying for a lack of information that you legitimately cant have.
-
I think he's fine as he is. I play him all the time and the only thing I would really do is make the rat tail and rat liver base. Just QOL stuff.

This was when the other two teammates were still on hooks before they died she put them directly across from each other.Then in that same area was the final generator.
It's your team-mates fault for giving her that big of an advantage. Having 2 hooks close together is a huge advantage for a killer, so they're not going to leave it.

Maybe you're braindead if you can't figure out how to outplay a spirit. I could also argue against survivors using your reasoning for spirit counterplay, "killers have no legitimate counters to survivors that fake vault windows/pallets. It's basically a guessing game. As killer, we should know when they are or are not going to vault."
Except you can tell when they fake the pallet and not fall for it next time.. There's no difference between a Spirit who stands still and one who is phasing, meaning there is no possible way to tell until you're dead.

Stealth, wits, and four of your 20 second chance perks and add ons.
And would wits not be distracting the killer? Perhaps by wasting their time at a loop? Also are you advocating for people to use second chance perks? Hmm...
-
Nothing, they'll say they're working on it but ultimately nothing will come from it.
-
It really depends on how fast the over-heat is. For Billy I don't really think it's necessary because yesterday when I was doing curves I realized that you have to hold it for a good amount of time. Over-all though it really isn't needed but you know how BHVR is.
-
BHVR will just add him anyways considering all the furries are gonna ape out and buy him day 1. Even if they're bad, which has been a trend recently.

Is it too much to ask to maybe play as the specific killer and learn their tactics and playstyles to combat them when playing survivor? Just me then. I don't mind playing against the spirit. Every killer can be anticipated. It helps to learn workarounds for their powers instead of getting them nerfed because people cant stand to use some sense.
But the problem is there is no work around. Hoping that she just "isn't good" or misses isn't a counter. A counter would be being able to tell when she's phasing and actually having a way to know where she is.

But when i watch True and Otz they always seem to know?
They don't. They can guess but they don't know where she's at truly. And that's the whole thing, if you guess wrong you die. A chase with Spirit is more like a game of russian roulette except there's 3 bullets opposed to 1. And somebody can just shoot you anyways. Speak based off of experience, not what streamers tell you.

Take off your perks and add-ons and see how strong Spirit is. Maybe take off your headphones too.
That makes every killer bad. You're taking away tracking and perks which are some of the essential parts for a killer's success.

Yes! It's poor design that a Survivor can misplay and trap himself! This game is supposed to be Survivor-sided, and so anything where a Survivor can mess up must be removed!
Ask for skillchecks to be removed next. I mean, it's poor design that Survivors can sometime miss them. All gens should just auto-complete! The Killer has that time to try killing everyone, or they all pop and he loses!
Peak killer main posting I don't know whether to feel embarrassed or laugh at you.

Why are you just gonna send them a message about how they're bad at the game or something?

Turn off the chat or just ignore it. There's a lot of ######### here even in the killer community. It's both sides having this us vs them mentality that just makes it worse, along with youtubers/streamers that push it further by saying "swf this" or "killer that". There's a serious lack of self awareness that many people who play suffer from.

Funny because it seems that when it's the other way around it's apparently balanced
It's not. That's why we removed infinite loops. That's why toolboxes were nerfed. That's why you have to actually time pallet stuns now and you can't blind killers out of the hooking animation. It's why killers are being reworked to have more threatening abilities. But of course killer mains are just always victims because some body t-bagged them a pallet.

Go to YouTube and watch tru3 talent okay, and tell me stealth doesn't work... By the way, he's red rank, solo only. Running around in wide open areas and being loud will always get you found.
I'm red rank and solo only too, that doesn't mean #########. Just because it CAN work doesn't mean it will. If the killer is brain dead then you can get away with stealth sure. But with sentient killers who know how to actually play the game and keep pressure up it doesn't work at all. Play some legitimate survivor solo que and get a taste of it. Because it is very apparent you don't know how this game functions at higher levels of play.

And what would you do to her?
Play the phase sound while in a chase so people can at least try to make a decision based on that. "BuT mUh MiNdGaMeS!!!!111??". No killer should be "just hope they miss lmao". It's just bad design.
-
Because killer mains are always of the victim mentality. Instead of learning or playing around things they want their hand held and want to cry whenever somebody t-bags them. Survivors are objectively stronger but treating them like this untouchable god force is just dumb. Usually when survivors run full 4-man meta they suck at the game. But the game should be balanced around this type of team you get once every few months. I just find it really funny how EVERY team is a "4-man SWF (with comms) Gen Rushing Death Squad with Purple Flashlights and Full Meta™".
-
BHVR only listens to what they want to hear. Even when people say "No this is a terrible idea" they might consider it but probably not.

Maybe try using some S T E A L T H?
Stealth is not a legitimate counter. Stealthing is how your team dies. If you don't take pressure off your team-mates or help progress the game then you aren't going to be alive for very long. If the only counter to a killer is to not get caught then that's just admitting that they are inescapable. At some point during the match you will have to take a chase if you want your team to succeed. When you unhook there's a good chance the killer will come back to pressure you. If they see you on a gen with BBQ they're going to come and pressure you. "Just hide lmao" is what rank 20s do. They hide the whole game and then their entire team dies. Believe it or not but killer isn't suppose to be a free win.
-
@ThisGuuy83 said:
Or instead of whining about every viable killer, you could actually learn how to get good instead of just relying on pallets and loops... 🤷♂️
That's literally the only thing you have to not die with in a chase. Am I just suppose to stand still in the open? "Man this guy is so good he killed me when I had zero defenses damn I should just play better next time :(". There's more viable killers but Spirit and Freddy are just the easiest to play so most people don't bother learning the other ones. Which is the biggest problem I have. They take really nothing more than basic killer knowledge to play and their powers are way too strong for such a low skill ceiling. Huntress, Demo, Billy, basically anybody that takes time to learn their power are justified in their strength because there is a legitimate margin of error to have. But their powers potential means that they can compensate greatly for it. Saying "learn how to get good instead of just relying on pallets and loops" is probably the most redundant statement I've ever heard. This is what all the skill for survivor comes down too, and it only highlights your own inexperience if you truly believe in what you said.
-
@FogLurker said:
Spirit was already nerfd with prayer beads and collision, Freddy was already nerfd with his forever Freddy build/add-ons.
But that doesn't fix the problem. Ormond was """nerfed""" but look at it now. It's still completely broken. Just because there was a nerf to something doesn't mean it was the right one. Spirits problem is only exacerbated by her add-ons. Spirits problem is there is no actual way to counter the power other than hoping she screws up. Freddy requires absolutely zero skill to play and has some of the best anti-loop in the game. You place a snare and they either give you the pallet or you hit them. There's not a loss in that scenario.
-
@Leachy_Jr said:

Drop pallets early against Freddy and he can't do much except bloodlust which wastes his time.
For spirit NEVER let her get possession on pallet, drop early and make educated guesses, she ain't the best killer in the game for nothing. If it's a god spirit then yea it's quite hard to escape, but if you're complaining about that you also have to complain about god deathslingers, huntresses etc who can end a chase just as fast.
The problem is that you literally can't do anything against Spirit in a chase. If you run you give her scratch marks to follow so you can't leave a loop fast enough to actually get away. If she hit you she has even more tracking and you can't tell where she is ever at so there's no opportunity to even make a legitimate decision other than "oh boy I hope she doesn't go this way". Against a Huntress you can at least react and actually play the game. Not so much against Deathslinger but he sucks anyways. Spirit is way too strong for how easy it is to play her.
-
@Todgeweiht said:
I don't know why people keep saying billy is the most balanced killer in the game. At least from my experience when I played him for his adept a few weeks ago I found him to be extremely brainded, just rev your chainsaw around the whole and if you find a survivor in a bad position hit him with it. If not try some cheeky stuff at a loop. I had a hard time getting it because most of the time it ended in brutal killer due to how fast my games were, I had to resort to being an M1 killer with mobility to get it.
That's a problem with the ranking system mostly. Ghostface isn't the best killer in the game but the same thing will happen if you use your stalk. It's also the survivors fault for being in a bad spot against a Billy. They get the whole terror radius as warning and they decide to stand in a spot where they're gonna die. Learning how to curve is what makes him good but it's really tough to pull off. Otherwise you can just loop him all the same.
-
@Maperson said:
Bcs they are balanced
Yes because having no way to see what the other side is doing and getting killed for that is balance. So is not being able to loop literally anything because you're slowed down all the time.
-
Because BHVR can't design actually good abilities. They put a cool-down on it and say "there its fixed :)))". Every perk since Demogorgon has just been a ######### cool-down perk. Essentially meaning no snow-ball and hindering the perk. Handicaps aren't GOOD balance. Just because it's not as strong as before or it's harder to use doesn't mean it was fixed in a good way. It's the reason why so many things aren't usable in the game currently. With how fast the matches are you can't wait for something with a minute or 3 minute cool-down. These things just can't carry their weight because they're constantly locked down.
-
Yes change the add ons to probably the worst killer in the game with no power changes. Peak BHVR design philosophy.
