They've since replied and said me saying deserved was indeed correct. I think survivor mains ideas of balance is crazy that "unless you play nurse or blight you deserve to lose!" And they think that's a balanced world...
That's not the point at all though
The point is if you intentionally handicap yourself (Playing with weak perks) and you go against meta slaves who know how to play, you are probably going to lose. That goes double if you pick a notoriously weak killer (The example being Trapper, but there are others)
Granted, IF you are good enough you might be able to still win - usually by tunnelling someone out megahard, slugging and so on.
-
"you can't argue with reality and the facts"
ok
Fact - Killrates have gone up across the board
Fact - No killer has below a 50% killrate (Meaning at least 2 kills)
Fact - New DH is still fairer than old DH, no matter how much you are annoyed by it
Fact - With a 4 generator slowdown build, matches will drag on forever if you choose to play it like that. This goes double for small maps like Saloon
Fact - Basekit BT does nothing against someone who is determined to tunnel you out (T. someone who tunnels when necessary)
Fact - Eruption was an uncounterable perk that turned any survivor hit by it into dead weight
Fact - Maps and map RNG is likely a big reason for deciding who wins and loses a match, which is why map RNG on certain realms is being reworked in the Skull Merchant patch.
Conclusion? Both sides are meant to win and lose a lot, that's the game.
-
Freddy is stuck in limbo
His power isn't weak, so he's probably not gonna get changes any time soon
it's just uninspired, boring to play and not that engaging to go against
His addons all suck, playing addonless freddy is no different to playing with basically any addons apart from the iris - which are serviceable if nothing else.
-
Agitation, Brutal Strength, Sloppy Butcher or either NOED or JOLT
Pretty decent build on most m1 killers

dredge has 2 terror radius-based perks
Yeah weird right?
idk why they do it
-
Should've made it so if you got a safe unhook, then it would proc
It'd have rewarded you for successfully taking aggro from a teammate after unhooking.
-
Unironically a better design
Well done if you are the one who made this, if not please give us the artist
-
A lot of Hag's playstyles revolved around splitting pressure via anti-healing and catching injured survivors in a web of traps then either protecting their hooks or protecting a set of generators
Hag's camping was nerfed with basekit BT/other endurance perks but also boons make splitting pressure basically impossible because you can put a boon on the 'non-hag' side of the map and basically you will never be caught injured. Unlike Knight, Hag is also 110% meaning she can't commit to chases as easily
-
To me It feels like Knight and Skull-Merchants powers don't have a "intended playstyle", It's just whatever players do with them because their powers tick so many general killer gameplay boxes (albeit poorly in some areas)
'Anti-loop', Tracking and a way to protect generators. The only thing that's missing from these two is mobility but they make up for that by having a power that leaves "something" in an area (guard/drone).
Problem is, they just aren't fun to play and I know that's extremely subjective as some people genuinely enjoy playing genlock knight but speaking personally I can't play Knight for more then a game or two before I'm bored but I can play Blight or Wesker non stop not because of their better results but because their powers are genuinely fun to use

Doctor has monitor and abuse? And blight has a perk that procs only on m1 hits? Its not the first time, hell dredge has two terror radious perks and his power takes away his tr.
I never said it was the first time nor that It hadn't happened before
I was just saying it's ironic and it's funny. You have to remember new players picking up a Killer for the first time will likely on have their perks to work with, so if their personal perks don't work with their power or are even a hinderance then it's bad for those players
This is why Sadako and Pinhead likely do so well, their teachables are insanely good for new players.
-
Ironically they gave a anti-healing perk to a Killer who's power can be completely ignored by not healing
Something funny about that

I'm not referring to the feelings of a character. I'm referring to the feelings of people who are represented by a character, and to hear the community say that it's not worth the respect of pronouncing the name right would feel pretty shiddy.
A lot of these players are blatantly doing it for racist reasons or to be trolls. (i.e. I've screencapped multiple players saying "Nah I'm gonna keep saying Fang because I speak English not [slur for Chinese people]. Many, many people saying this and worse.)
It's also just common sense at this point. Some people don't know how to pronounce Élodie, or Zarina. It would just make things easier.
I do agree, some people are just offensive for the sake of it and that's not right. I was a bit confused about the topic of this thread. People behaving like that is generally unacceptable regardless.
I was reminded of the whole discussion surrounding Sadako's nickname. It seemed to me like people just giving a killer a funny sounding nickname like people do for all killers was being conflated with people intentionally trying to offend others.
-
Is it not a bit of a stretch to compare how you would treat a real person's name to how you speak of a fictional character that doesn't have feelings though.
Forgive me for this, I hate to ask this question but do we really have to consider the thoughts/feelings of a "character" which has none to begin with?
Like obviously people shouldn't spew hatred, that's not what I'm saying but when did simply pronouncing a name wrong become the same as that (In the context of DBD)
I do like your idea though, some character names idk how to pronounce so I just go with how it's commonly done or i look it up

It was pretty terrible to play on. I am willing to bet the majority of people saying they miss it and want it back is speaking out of nostalgia because, in actual play, the map was actually pretty terrible and suffered from a lot of problems. Killers that were slower than average played badly on the map because of just how some of the loops were. Certain killers that relied on collisions like bubba and hillbilly were awful on that map. It was pretty much only really good as stealth killers and hag/trapper with all the sneaky trap placements.
For survivor it was okay, there were plenty of strong loops, but it was kind of difficult to find generators and in the current meta I would no doubt think it would be a really strong 3 gen map if a killer say the knight were on it making it pretty miserable to play. So it would not have faired well with the slowdown-gen kicking meta.
As someone who played on it quite a bit on both sides, even without Nostalgia I think it was a fun map
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and layout of the map and imo it was a nice break from all the same tiles you'd see in every other map. There were no jungle gyms, L wall T walls, long walls etc - every tile was unique in a certain way.
Don't get me wrong though, fun =/= well designed. If you want a modern comparison for the issues Hawkins had then midwich is basically like having two hawkins stacked on top of each other. It was horrendous for certain Killers like Huntress.
It had baked in 3 gen scenarios because of the guaranteed generator spawns that would be in the portal room and the drop down rooms. It even had the exit gate problem where the gates basically always favoured killer.
-
There's a lot of circumstancial stuff that has connections to Predator, but there is no way BHVR would get into a partnership with a license holder, create a bunch of content for it (Which costs money by the way) and then have to frankenstein it into an original chapter because of some disagreement or contract termination.
They already had all the promo material, trailers etc ready ahead of the PTB so this has been planned for a long time
Surely if it was a 'cancelled' license then that would cause legal issues and we would hear about it.
The more likely and more logical explanation is that this is just a poor release from the dev team that they thought more people would like but didn't. Predator license or not, it's not just the Killer that is lackluster. The perks are extremely uninspired and boring too.
-
It's not a tech though
It's called game sense, if the final gen pops while you're carrying a survivor and you have the foresight to check if they have one of the strongest perks in the game then you deserve the reward for doing so
The scenario is really rare I don't see it that often

3.8 movement speed.
which means you can body block her pretty easily. But a lot of survivors don’t know that because they’re so afraid of starstruck.
All killers move at the same speed while carrying though
It's a completely standardised mechanic
-
Keep in mind their response to the lackluster reception to Knight was 1 tweet and all it said was
"Our recent release didn't go as smoothly as we hoped, here's some free stuff"
They've already started this kind of """damage control""" by doing their free BP newsletter thing whatever it is.
I highly doubt they will respond to the criticism. Not all of it is valid, I will agree but a LOT of it is.

right, but if you're running scourge hooks without monstrous shrine and iron grasp then you're kinda shooting yourself in the foot in my opinion.
personally i think all scourge hook perks should include the basement hooks, but that's just my opinion.
You don't need either iron grasp or monstrous shrine
Agitation is all you need

I think this post can be summarized as follows. The killer is not on a level as pay 2 win license like Wesker, therefore it is a failure.
The expectations are way too high. Try learning the killer first. BHVR spent months releasing a new killer, the least you can do is spend time learning her.
If you think Wesker is pay to win you must be completely ignoring the other strong killers that are either free or can be purchased for free.
"Expectations are way too high"
Yeah we just had a lackluster chapter, the last thing we were hoping for was a second one in a row

Like?? Yes. Both are.. eyes? Congrats for noticing.. but those are definitely different models..
The one I saw it was a gif of Trickster's face and Skull merchants fully unmasked face overlayed over each other with a fade in from one to the other and there was little difference
I can't verify how factual it is though, so I'm not gonna say its legit but if it was a legit comparison they do look extremely similar in some aspects.

The implementation and number of moving parts added is quite complex. The gameplay isn't.
The point of that tweet I understand--this isn't something BHVR shunted out at the last minute. They put a lot of work into it. The gameplay, however, is simplistic.
I don't think this was a rush job personally, that's what makes it worse
THIS is what bhvr considers a finished product, basically.
That's why I'm really disappointed by it.
I might've misinterpreted the 'mechanically complex' thing, I seriously hope they weren't saying this killer's gameplay is complex. Quite frankly, it is not.
-
"This character is one of the most complex in the whole roster"
Blatantly false.
The power is nothing more than a mobile version of starstruck on a timer with tracking and a simon says minigame attached to it. There is no skill ceiling, no learning curve outside of "where do i put the thing". Comparing Skull Merchant to Killers like Nurse, Blight, Wesker, Huntress is a huge disservice and I seriously hope nobody thinks that this mess of a power comes anywhere close to being "mechanically complex"
Also the secondary argument of "but the power has lots of things!!!". Making a needlessly complicated power does not make it deep and complex to use.
The radar could've easily been killer instinct. There is NO difference between killer instinct and pulling up an ipad to look at white dots.
-
I don't know what's worse
That this Predator theory is plausible
Or the fact that people are believing it instead of the more logical conclusion that BHVR just made an extremely poor, low effort and half baked chapter
-
Some would define Adrenaline as a 'Win more' perk, typically if survivors get all gens done they are usually the ones winning
However Adrenaline is also a huge anti momentum perk for killer and encourages slamming gens and not healing. I can't tell you how many times I've just barely won a game before the last gen got done and in the endgame lobby I saw multiple adrenalines that if they went off probably would've cost me the win.
I think Adrenaline is one of those perks that if there's just 1 it's usually not a big deal but it's power increases expontentially the more survivors have it. I can't tell you how demoralising it is to have 4 survivors injured and dead on hook, last gen pops and they all become healthy.
I like Adrenaline though, I think if you play well enough to make it to endgame with 3 perks then you deserve it.
-
We're reaching cope levels I didn't think were possible
I believe it

I think the game should show the killer who has dh while injured so you know to bait it out and then when survivors don't have it you can just lunge normally.
That's an interesting suggestion honestly, but I wonder how you would do that
Would it be some kind of visual on the survivor or would it be something on the HUD?

@Digfish said:
Literally the most whiny, entitled people play this game, I swear. "I don't like the chapter, so that means the devs don't care about the players."
Dude, it's still the PTB. The whole point of the next two weeks is to get feedback and adjust the killer and new perks as needed. And even after that they will likely continue to make adjustments as they have done with the Knight. I'm sure they are hearing the feedback on this one from the community and the Fogwhisperers.
I don't think this is a particularly good killer, but there's still plenty to like in the new chapter. The eruption nerf is good news. The reworks of Red Forest and Shelter Woods are cool. And hopefully on release, or shortly thereafter, the killer will be adequately buffed.
But "boycott" away. No one expects you to buy content you don't like. I have like 120k shards saved up, but I reserve those for cosmetics I like. I'll be paying my $12 or whatever it is for this chapter, even if it's not the best.
I don't entirely disagree with your post, but
Buying lackluster content you know is lackluster seems like a lack of standards. We've seen BHVR are capable of making good content, so why would we settle for content that seems rushed/unfinished and so on?
It might just be the PTB but the PTB is essentially a preview of upcoming content. The chapter is basically a "Completed product" according to BHVR. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be releasing in 3 weeks.
-
I might not even bother using shards on Skull Merchant
If the perks are horrible and I don't want to play her for her power, what's the point?

And that was completely unrelated information that was completely unhelpful. If someone is having issues with characters like Trickster, telling them "well, deathslinger is cool with dead hard" doesn't help them at all.
Dead hard is unnecessarily oppressive against certain killers, and reminding people that some killers are ok with new dead hard, doesn't help anyone at all, and doesn't solve the issue that dead hard is unnecessarily oppressive against certain killers.
Cool. Didn't ask for your input because I wasn't talking to you to begin with

What's your problem I wasn't even talking to you
The person was talking about ranged killers getting hard countered by DH and I said hey at least deathslinger can deal with it
-
Also having this bug, same platform as OP
-
They aren't gonna change a thing about the visuals
Whether that's because they value their artists vision too much or simply because they don't care about how consumers feel about it, I'm not sure
The Power will stay basically the same with numbers buffs and maybe 1/2 extra side things at best
I'm not being pessimistic, BHVR works in patterns and that's the pattern.

It’s not worth mentioning that new dead hard does nothing against deathslinger. And people should only mention that, if they are also willing to mention the specific killers where new dead hard is more oppressive than old dead hard.
Why aren’t you mentioning Trickster, where his knives harmlessly passed through old dead hard and old dead hard barely did anything to him, but new dead hard resets the knife count back down to 0, and gives survivors a speed boost?
New Dead hard tells specific killers that they should stop using their powers, and that is terrible.
???
The person I was replying to mentioned Trickster already
-
@Veinslay said:
Having to constantly wait as the killer to swing at the survivor is the most unfun mechanic in the entire game
On a personal level, I used to have fun playing Huntress, Trickster, and Demogorgon, even on console, but now they're basically unplayable because of how prolific dead hard is
Worth mentioning though DH does basically nothing against a Deathslinger who's good with their power, not only can the killer always force a deep wound but you can't DH when you're speared. There's at least some ranged killers who can deal with it
@Coffeecrashing said:
Dead Hard is unnecessarily oppressive against certain killers, where the survivors can use dead hard on reaction to these killers powers. There are also survivors that can reliably dead hard on reaction on killer lunges.
The worst part is many people refuse to acknowledge that it’s valid to complain about the NEW parts of new dead hard. We have so many people say “killers shouldn’t complain about new dead hard because you can’t dead hard for distance anymore, and that is what killers said was the biggest problem”. How does that even make sense? Do these people really think killers should have predicted the future, and before new dead hard was announced, they should have complained about endurance and speed boosts?
There are valid complaints about it, for sure.
I made this very thread to hear those kinda complaints since my personal perspective is that I'm not really bothered by the perk all that much.
I see it a lot, on pretty decent survivors too but I typically don't feel robbed like I did before with old DH.

its not like im gonna use poised or something, ofc im gonna use perks that dont suck.
Well yeah, people gravitate towards their preferred playstyle and/or the meta perks because they net the best results
This thread isn't criticising people for using DH, it's a discussion to figure out what people's core issues with the perk are because as someone who's played mostly killer lately I'm not as annoyed by it as a lot of others are.
Like people comparing it to Eruption, I get the comparison but I also don't fully agree with it
-
@Wexton said:
It's annoying that's my problem with it, it isn't dreadfully overpowered or anything but it's still extremely annoying. I see it basically every game now, usually 3 survivors are running it. My problem with dead hard lies with it just being bad game design, I'm just gonna steal a comment I saw on YouTube to describe it "imagine playing call of duty and you have to wait 9 seconds before shooting your opponent" like I know dead by daylight isn't an fps game but I think the complaint is still pretty valid.
Survivors can make a lot of mistakes in a chase and still win because they used dead hard at the right time, that's annoying man, imagine having a chase extended by 30 more seconds because they pressed a button. You can do everything perfect in a chase, but if you don't stare at the survivors butt for 9 seconds and wait out deadhard you'll either lose it or the chase will be extended for a much longer amount of time. Just gonna throw in an example here, imagine facing a very annoying survivor, y'know teabagging and clicking stuff like that, you chase them and you get them down one health state, you're excited because you want to stick it to this jerk, and when you swing they deadhard, all of your progress is done and you didn't get to stick it to that jerk and now you just look an idiot. So now you gotta carry your shameful butt to another survivor and hope to God they don't have deadhard either.
It's just annoying, there isn't really much to add to my statement. Annoying perk that perpetuates bad game design. I don't think a perk like deadhard can be balanced without being flat out removed from the game all together. Btw I know some survivors are really bad at using dead hard, I've seen survivors do some really brain dead plays with it but that doesn't change the fact that a good survivor, even an average survivor can get a lot of use out of dead hard.
It's a valid complaint for sure, you said it yourself that it's not OP or anything in your opinion but it's still annoying. I can respect that POV
Although I feel like the annoyance factor of DH is amplified by the fact that it's a perk that turns a killer's correct play into a mistake. To use your Call of Duty example, it's sort of like martyrdom from original COD4. Yeah you successfully killed that dude but because he had a perk you're punished for it unless you anticipate it like people do with DH.
Sprint Burst has an identical issue, where you basically need to catch survivors 3 times for a down (Initial sprint burst, hit 1 and hit 2) but SB doesn't turn a correct play into a misplay.
-
@Rulebreaker said:
The only problem we have is the sheer amount of times we see it. Every game there's almost always 2+.
I can't disagree, in basically all of my games there is always at least 1 person running it.
But is that because DH is insanely powerful or is it because the perk is just fun to use and rewarding? I genuinely don't know.
This is how the whole "Maybe Windows needs a nerf" discussion started as well - the sheer frequency of the perk.
-
Generators that are blocked by the entity have never supposed to lose progress, this was confirmed way back when Thrilling Tremors came out
I think it was bugged, but the combo will still work - Pain res will hit the gen and put it into a 'regressing' state but while the gen is blocked it will not lose progress until its unblocked, then regression will resume.
Hopefully that makes sense
-
They shouldn't have made it an exhaustion perk
They should've made it so you gain the same haste boost as people you unhook and maybe some kind of other secondary effect to the person you unhook
At least then the killer might chase you instead, not realising that you're moving at 110%. Current version it's so obvious.

I'm not saying it needs to be removed, but
A lot of the time less is more and Skull Merchants design has so much stuff tacked on that it just, for lack of a better term of phrase, feels like it's trying too hard. That's why people are calling it a 'fortnite' 'apex legends' design
The massive claw, the technological stuff on her back, the bizarre mask, the weird focus on everything being as asymmetrical as possible. There is such a thing as being overdesigned.
Legion is just a mask and a hoodie but that's far more visually striking in my opinion

If she was a 50 year old tall man with this exact same design these complaints wouldn't exist I'm willing to bet money on it.
Legion and Deathslinger didn't receive any hate for their designs (except some for Susie) despite being 300000x more lackluster
I don't get how you can call Legion and Deathslinger lackluster, at least their designs aren't assymetrical messes.
It feels like a lot of modern dbd designs for cosmetics and some killers is just keep tacking on stuff and hope people find it cool. Legion's design is pretty simplistic yet it's become iconic to the game to the point they are getting their own comic series
Deathslinger's design might seem pretty generic, but it's at least consistant.
-
All of them are horrible perks
Hyperfocus is only good if you center an entire build around it with strong items. Nobody runs it by itself and even if they did, it's not super easy to actually get value out of it because hitting skillchecks is easy, but hitting skillchecks with diff speeds not so easy
Overzealous would be good if we still played in a pre-boon DBD. We do not
Quick Gambit idek what to say about it - you're supposed to run the killer away from teammates doing gens.
No opinion on the new perk yet but probably not gonna be used by anyone

Mori isn't good either I'll admit but I've seen a couple posts here complaining and ALL over social media everyones typing up huge essays and posts abt how she should've been this cool cyborg dude yada yada and its so weird how extremely pissed off people are about her.
Just people setting themselves up for disappointment
Then again, I think there's a decent amount to be disappointed about even if you don't care about the design. The power alone seems to have drawn a lot of people's ire already and it's only been an hour and a half.
Personally, I don't get it. I don't get the power nor the design philosophy behind it. She's an M1 killer.
-
Who's mad about it? Female killers are a staple of the game and some of the most played.
Seems like most people are mad about the power and some of the perks. Maybe her design seems a bit jarring but so did Trickster and he turned out... Fine in the end I guess?
BHVR actually made a female killer who seems to be straight up evil for a change.
Mori isn't very good tho
