Then explain how killer mains like Otz do well without Ruin?
Otz said ruin is necessary on Clown and its very good on Trapper, he is just good enough to play without it. Point still stands.

Just why? These forums are constant bitching that the devs are “survivor-biased” or “killer-biased”.
From my observation, the majority of you bitching are the entitled red ranked survivors or killers.
Ruin nerf is not that big of a deal. Most good teams can go through gens easily with it and they usually find it within the first minute anyways. Essentially, it’s a waste of a perk slot.
Killers want: Slower generator repairs, Automatic 4ks with 0 generators repaired every game. Small one-sides maps. No DH, no DS, no BT, no Adrenaline, no nothing.
Survivors want: No camping, no tunneling, faster generator repair, no killer on the map.
Both sides have counter-plays to the others. For all you Superior Red Ranks to be so much more intelligent and experienced in the game, you sure ######### a lot.
Probably 1 in 5 games on Xbox I play a Red killer that runs ruin.
BHVR might as well remove Teachable perks from the game so everyone is limited to Unique Play-styles of each Character instead of meta-builds.
Because they often do controversial changes without consulting them with players, and their patch notes reasoning is vague, often not on point or detached from reality. They also like to avoid fixing somr problems and just ignore th or do some wierd workarounds that get bugged every patch. I think the person that does the patch notes doesnt really understand devs reasoning and says something random.

I agree that Ruin needed to be changed simply because new players shouldn't have to deal with an objective skill barrier just so they can play the game normally. However of course, because BHVR doesn't know how to balance, they botched another rework so now the perk doesn't even do it's intended purpose anymore
Just fix matchmaking lol
Ruin is behind a paywall, thats good enough protection

No one wants to do generators, especially lower ranks and new players. We are too afraid to touch generators because killers know exactly where the generators are and the generators are so loud it practically gives our position away (THANKS TECHNICIAN YOU SOLVED NOTHING). We hate being sitting ducks and with Hex:Ruin our motivation to do generators went from 20% to 0% and we end up hating the game, not wanting to play dead by daylight anymore. Hex:Ruin is Toxic to us newbies who can't even hit regular skills check, and with the fluctuation of ranks, we're bound to get a killer who has Hex:Ruin on anyways. Did you know? there are a lot of grey rank killers who have all the perks unlocked, so rank doesn't even matter anyways.
"BUT WHAT ABOUT THE GEN RUSHERS, YOU CLEARLY NEVER PLAYED KILLER BEFORE"
well you see, when a survivor is hooked, all the other newbie survivors will stop doing generators and try to save the hooked person just to end up getting hooked as well, it's a cycle of trying to save but getting hooked instead. If you're getting Gen rushed then it's completely normal, you are not supposed to get 4k every game. You think a killer getting 4 kills in a game is a normal occurrence? you should think again. BVHR actually want new players to play the game and enjoy it, Hex:Ruin just sucks the soul right out of survivors, of course veteran players will argue "why don't you just run the perk small game?" "what are you talking about? hex:ruin gets destroyed by the first minute of the game", yeah but you are forgetting those OTHER GAMES, where newbies are just mad, frustrated, running around the map just to never find a ruin, they don't know the exact spots where ruins would spawn yet.
And aren't you bored of having Hex:ruin on EVERY build when you play as a killer? A newbie is not going to have the HAG unlocked, when you have Hex:ruin on you're always paranoid who's cleansing your Hex:ruin, and when you get your Hex:ruin cleansed within the first 1 minute into the game you get this sense of despair. Is that """FUN""" I rather run around freely getting Gen rush then getting salty the moment my Hex:ruin gets cleansed and tunneling that one survivor who cleansed it
I think BHVR did a right thing for creating a more friendly environment for new players and noobs. It's a lot more fun now that Hex:Ruin will be gone. New players can live freely without the PTSD of Hex:Ruin
You say that " you are scared of gens" and "stop doing gens if someone gets hooked", and this is EXACTLY what new ruin punishes. It makes generators lose progres IMMEDIATELY after you leave it. Skillchecks are also hard for new players, but learning them is necessary. Besides, if you are in white ranks, you shouldnt EVER be able to meet a killer with ruin, its devs fault that it happens. To get ruin, you have to farm 9000 shards, this means around 100 HOURS ingame, because you as also have to get around 1 000 000 bloodpoints to unlock the perk on all killers and another 100 000 to unlock it on a desired killer. The only other way is to get it from Shrine of Secrets for 2000 shards (around 30 hours ingame) but there is small chance of it sppearing. After such long time the killer should easily leave "newb ranks" and not meet new players anymore. But unfortunately matchmaking doesnt work.
So basically nerfing ruin for new players doesnt make sense, because new players shouldnt ever even see ruin, and the ruin nerf actually makes it harder for new surviviors, because passive gen regression is even worse.
New Hex: Ruin paired with STARTING KILLER PERK, Unnerving Presence (and maybe universal perk Distressing), is WAY stronger against new players than old Ruin

Surviviors are immune to Static Blast while vaulting (?why?)

I didn't say the Nurse was bad, I said the FUN factor to playing her was tanked. And people want to have fun playing a game, not spend 10-20 minutes getting frustrated. So the dves took a Killer many people played and had fun playing and made her almost disappear from the trials.
I dont play much nurse cause I suck at her, but I think it was the most fun I have had as killer.
Outplaying surviviors with precise blinks is very satisfying, and they can even counter that because its too fast to react. But of course its not much of a threat if they see it coming.

Then its up to the devs to balance the game properly after that change, people are acting like this is the devs last change to the game, maybe they have something in mind for later to balance it or maybe add a new perk. My point was all the people jumping the gun and saying there quitting the game bc of this
I think quitting is just a threat to devs, not really quitting.
-
Trapper and Hag too OP, good they nerfed them with this update.
-
@Outland said:
You are disagreeing with me that the frequency with how many Nurses still play is way down? Honestly try to think back to how many nurses you vs before the change and how many you see now.
Her power is powerful, but the change to the base kit, made her more frustrating to play, to the fun factor is way down, and people have made it clear by playing some other killer.
The Nurse Killer player spends a crap ton of time WAITING, waiting after she blinks for exhaustion to clear, waiting for her blinks to regen. The Nurse spends a lot of the match time, actually stupified or gimped.
And there has been little Dev acknowledgement that they reduced the fun factor of the killer to a point of extinction.
Not many people play her, but because she is hard, not because she is bad. Fatigue is needed to balance loop breaking power. Hag's teleportation requires surviviors to be dumb or 15 second cooldown. Thats way more than Nurses fatigue. And dont forget chain blinks.

I never said it was useless, im aware ruin wins 80% of games, my point is the people who are crying and saying they are quitting the game bc of a patch note that is going into the ptb not the official game
I agree Ruin needs nerf, but definitely not this kind of nerf. Especially since Ruin is Hag's perk and not Spirit's or whoever people use it on in meta.
And PTB changes go through most of the time.

So, would you say it would’ve been more ideal then to remove it as a Hex? Or only activate late game?
I do understand that it’s not the best decision the devs have made since I’ve started playing, but Ruin is not the cure-all in my book for beating survivors.
Would you accept the Perk change if it were no longer a Hex?
It would make ruin quite strong late game.
But we dont need that... I want Hags perk to be good on Hag and buy me time for early game setup, not late game gen slowdown.
-
@Outland said:
Could be? I wouldn't recommend doing it too much as it is a bannable offense. But its pretty much the only thing some players can do to express themselves, that the devs react to.
The devs still don't seem to care that the only Nurses we see are some poor person trying to grind out a daily. The player base for her has almost disappeared.
I disagree about the Nurse.
She is hard as hell, but her power is the strongest in the game and she is still 2nd strongest killer. Basically she is one of the only 2 killers that can skip loops, the other being Hag with Mint Rag.
Except Nurse doesnt need Ultra Rare addon
-
Ruin is not a crutch perk for killers like Trapper and Hag that HAVE to prepare early game.
Ruin is crutch for most killers, but sometimes its the only thing keeping that killer running, like Clown or Doctor that have low map pressure and not great effects later either.
-
Ruin is needed for killers that need to prepare early game like Trapper or Hag, but also for weak killers with low map pressure, like Clown or Doctor.
Ruin changes dont make sense, as new Ruin is supposed to be strongest mid game, while hexes with immediate effects are cleansed very early. The only way for a Hex to survive to late game is to make its effects hidden until late game, like Devour Hope or NOED. Ruin is not one of those perks, so it will be too weak
-
@Lliart said:
This is gonna be a long one lol XD
As noted in pretty much a large majority of the forums, reddit, YouTube, etc., the ruin change is quite divisive (Or if you're like me and many others, really really scary lol) Though a lot of what I've seen is outright dismay and fear at the developers'/community manager's response to said outrage. A large chunk of the notes describe how annoying it feels to play survivor while giving little consideration to how a killer would feel, especially with how they would feel needing to use ruin over and over again.
Now I'm hoping and expecting folks to be civil in their feedback, as flinging insults, anger, and vitriol will only cause disdain and dismay and COMPLETELY bury the point we're all trying to make, which is this:
Ruin for many people is seen as a tool to ensure that the early game is safe from survivor pressure and ensures that the game will not be over before it starts. As of right now, a rather good handful of killers have quite little map pressure. Take for example the Plague or the Clown. In order to get started, they need to find someone (obviously :P) but once one enters a chase, there are still three survivors left to work on generators. Generators that, without the slowdown of ruin, would be finished in approximately 1.5 minutes time, with even less time if survivors choose to bring in a toolbox or perks encouraging working together quickly. Now some may say just run Discordance. While yes, that may work for a little, it doesn't resolve the fact that survivors will still run back to said generator to repair it quickly. Another point, if one's argument is "Just don't play Clown or Plague, they're bad." Then maybe the developers need to take a long and dedicated look into them, as that kind of dismissive response is not really constructive. Unlike with what the notes have stated, many killers don't have a problem of losing emblems if they don't have ruin, it's the speed of the game itself ending so quickly.
Now I'd be more accepting of these changes if totems weren't so unluckily placed at times, such as right next to a generator or out in the middle of a field. Hell, I've even seen them in quite obvious survivor loops such as in T-L walls just sitting in the crook of the L wall.
For a TL;DR: Ruin feels like a necessity due to generators being repaired so quickly and the Dev Notes don't seem to address that concern, more so the concern about emblems or survivor's feelings of fun. It is not fun for a killer to begin a match and hear their totem being dismantled within 14 seconds of the game starting, so will there be heavy consideration taken into effect for hiding totems? Generators are repaired so quickly already for killers with low map pressure such as the Clown, Plague, and Doctor, will there be consideration taken in for how difficult it is for them to get pressure applied?
REMEMBER!!! This is a civil discussion about Ruin. If you act juvenile by name calling or trying to pull rank in a way that denotes that you're opinion matters more because you're high rank, then you aren't really adding to the conversation.
Dont forget about killers like Trapper or Hag that need time to prepare traps at the beginning of the game and ruin was great for that. The problem with ruin was that it was good not only for killers with low early game pressure/needing time for setup, but for all killers. Ruin should nerfed for those killers that can be good without it, not those that the ruin was created for
-
Im going to bump this once because its already buried under all these ruin and Doctor complaints
-
Btw I have seen one thread about hiding ranks removed, we will see if it was on purpose too
-
Im starting to form conspiracy theories that Ruin nerf was done to hide this new "feature" they are going to add, if they buff Ruin immediately after this nerf then this must be it lol
-
@Widowmaker8197 said:
This is coming from a survivor struggling to stay in rank 1. Stop it. The new ruin changes are needed. Almost every game I play the killer gets 2 or more kills. But no, the killer mains are gonna complain because the devs are starting to realize the game shouldn't be balanced around the killer getting 4 kills every single game. It should be balanced around 2 kills/escaping half your games.
Gen rushing doesn't exist. The survivors are supposed to want to get the gens done as fast as possible it's our OBJECTIVE ffs. The gens already regress pretty fast if they've been kicked but with the new ruin they're going to regress automatically as if they have been kicked. It's like all generators are automatically kicked with the new ruin. Oh, and I haven't even mentioned what it's going to be like if the killer kicks the gens and ruin is up? It probably will regress as fast as one survivor's base repair speed.
TL;DR: We haven't experienced the new ruin in game yet so we shouldn't be complaining right now. Also, gen rushing doesn't exist. Survivors are supposed to want to get the gens done as fast as possible.
Ruin is HAGs perk
Maybe changes are needed, but not if its useless for Hag and Trapper then whats the point of Ruin
Ruin is supposed to slow down early game and give time for preparation, new ruin doesnt do that in any way.
-
The outrage about ruin nerf is enough to prove toxicity of the community, and shows necesity of such measures
-
*Only killers that need time for early game setup use ruin
-
If ruin doesnt stack with kicking then its too weak

That argument was against people not bothering to cleanse ruin
If survivors immediatly go totem hunting the second they see it's ruin it's the same effect the old ruin had
But old ruin worked well early game, not only "once you get the pressure going"
-
@[Deleted User] said:
You will always lose 1-3 gens early on as she is not an m1 "chase" killer, even with ruin. I personally find corrupt to be better on her because of that since you stake your claim of the map ahead of time and draw them into the minefield.
Well yeah, but I just bought Hag instead of Plague so I dont have Corrupt

That's the point, i think the constant regression is an insane slowdown once you get pressure going
Haven't played with it ofcourse but i feel like not bothering to destroy a ruin is going to backfire like not bothering to destroy an devour hope
But Devour is hidden until its too late, Ruin is instantly visible
-
@JawsIsTheNextKiller said:
You chose wisely as Hag is powerful, great fun and plays very differently to other killers. People will not be looking for Hex Totems now and that is when they get hit with Hag's best teachable: Hex: Devour Genrushers.
I think that now, with ruin gone, I can trash all hex perks and just use Devour savely since no one bothers to cleanse when no Hex is active
-
@Peanits said:
I would definitely say give it a try first. Having played around with it, it can be pretty nasty once you get some pressure. Combine it with Surveillance and you also get some outrageous tracking (since generators automatically regress). You'll always know which generators are being worked on.
True
But this is HAG's perk
Hag needs time EARLY to set traps
After good EARLY set up she has no problems with pressure, trapping gens is more than enough.
What you should have done is decrease synergy with killers OTHER than Hag and killers that need early game set up.
-
@PistolTimb said:
Hey, Hag is a damn fine killer and will likely be the best when it's all said and done. NoED is free, too. It ain't all bad, friend.
Ruin was best perk to buy time while setting down traps, now its gone.
And noed is bad and a crutch. Good game on Hag means pressuring them down before they do 3rd gen, and completly destroy them with constant teleportation before 4th gen
-
@ProfessorDunwich said:
From this well made summary of the recent dev stream.
"They decided to update Doctor next because he’s the most annoying killer to play against."
He was not changed because he was weak and people struggled to play as him. No. He was changed because survivors found him "annoying" in the incredibly rare instance a killer decided they wanted to suffer playing as him. Probably why we have had so many Legion changes recently, to make them less "annoying" for survivors to go against. Meanwhile very weak killers like the Clown are not "annoying" will likely be left to languish for years to come.
But you just made Doctor weaker. The only reason Doctor is not Clown yet is because of the stun while screaming. True, your update made it easier to use stun in chases, but now its useless because stun lasts 2.5 seconds while Doctors recovery lasts 3 seconds.
So basically now we cant use Doctors only strong point.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/973728#Comment_973728
It does read confusing but when i asked a dev said that it should be less punishing if 2-3 gens pop early
We'll have to wait untill the ptb to be sure though
Well did you read my follow up?
I need TIME to prepare, not information where they are.
Cool it works with Surveillance, even if I dont have it, but ruin didnt need any other perks to be useful before.
What im trying to say that new ruin is completly different perk, doesnt matter goid or bad, it has different role than old ruin, and I dont like it, because ruin is Hags perk
-

The tunneling is for two reasons.
- To eat DS so they can't be used in the endgame where it's a free escape for the survivor. This combos with making a NOED-focused build stronger in the endgame. Eating DS also ensures maxing Remember Me
- Best way to slowdown gen completion is to get someone out of the game ASAP
Dont forget getting angry because surviviors use flashlights

You should've just slugged and camped both of them (in case they have unbreakable too) in that situation.
Had a similiar situation later, I ate 1 DS and slugged the other. The other guy DCed after 60 seconds passed. Also I thought camping was toxic or something.

I know what you mean, but corrupt has a different purpose than dlowing down the game. Of course it foes that too, but ruin was a perk especially made for that.

@Almo said:
Hi!
Just wanted to address one common concern I've seen from the community. "They nerfed Ruin so it wouldn't be hard for new Survivors."
That's not quite what the intention was. This is subtle, but bear with me.
New Ruin is in fact really brutal for new Survivors... because it is insidious. They have no idea what's happening, and they struggle to get gens done at all. That little zap effect when you take your hands off a gen? Barely noticable to a new player who's panicing because of the L3 Terror Radius they are hearing. It's not even noticable that the gen is regressing twice as fast as if the Killer had damaged it.
What we wanted to do was not "make it easy for new players" but "make it less frustrating for new players". In playtests with newer Survivor players, it was 4k with 4 or 5 gens up almost every time. But they didn't hate their time in the game as much because those red skill checks weren't in their faces.
I'm looking forward to playing on the PTB with some of you tomorrow; see you in the Fog!
I think you misunderstand. The problem with new ruin is not that it doesnt work on skillchecks, but that it doesnt work at all. I you are worried about skillchecks, make it flat debuff like thanatophobia, if you are worried about new surviviors then, Idk, increase skillchevks at low ranks, or just make matchmaking work.
New ruin is bad because its useless for killers that need to set up traos early game, like Trapoer and Hag, the ones that benefitted from the old ruin the most. Now it gives you no help early game. Please dont forget that this is HAGs perk, so it should work best on HAG and killers similiar to her.
-
BT is okay though
-
@Mert_MK said:
DS, BT: Don't tunnel
Adrenaline: Don't let them finish the last gen. And if you fail at that, they deserve the heal and sprint burst.
SWF: Deal with it, you can't nerf people playing with their friends.
No nerfs needed.
I got 2 hooks in basement, they got saved, catched them both, had to eat 2 DSes
Wow I tunneled 2 people at the some time.
-
"Unless they tap it to check for ruin"
You just said that lol. Tapping takes 0.2s. Skillcheck takes 10-15s
Old ruin was good early game, so if they wasted time to cleanse then the effects were the same (Gens being done slower). Now ruin has value mid game, while it still can be detected early game.
-
Your theory works only 8f the ruin effect is hidden... If its not then they will just clense...
It would have to be like Devour to be of any use.
But still, no effect early game and no time to setup

Obviously you didnt read that he escaped with another survivor after 2 were tunneled to death. If you wanted more details on the match you could have said so.
The second survivor he escaped with was on the hook. He unhooked them and escaped with them. There was no team abandonment.
In this case there wasnt, but people bringing keys often do that

That's when you use Corrupt Intervention, it's better for killers that need to setup during the early game :P
Corrupt doesnt buy as much time, good enough surviviors know where the gens spawn.
Also for killers like Trapper its unfavourable to have surviviors coming your way when setting traps, because they can see there you are setting them.
Ruin slowed down the game without guiding surviviors to you, now it doesnt slow it down at all early game

I mean, BHVR isn't acting randomly, I think they nerfed Ruin to prepare for a future change. However, since you are a game designer and feel you could be a great asset to the BHVR team, you can find job opportunities at BHVR here:
About Ruin
I just said that I agree with BHVR because most of the community is acting like you need Ruin to win when in reality, that's definitely not the case — I'm a red rank killer, I main Nurse and Pig. I don't use Ruin because it makes me adapt and become a better player.
Another thing is the PTB hasn't came out yet, can we at least wait to test out their product instead of assuming the worst? It could look a lot better in practice rather than on paper. 😁🤗
Cool, but why killers that need it the most suffer the most? Ruin was most important for killers that need set up, but used by all because of free slow down. Now its usefull for everyone except killers that need time to set up very early in the game
-
Then why are you surprised? If you bring all medkits when no one will let you go and heal. And if you didnt bring anything then well maybe you should have. Killer may be #########, but key is not a counter to tunneling.
People want keys to be nerfed because it lets people escape anytime they want and abandon your team.
Keys are cancer like moris
-
I like that Hag perk was nerfed for Hag more than anyone else...
How are we supposed to set up traps like this
-
What? No one had borrowed time? Or decisive strike? Or even flashlight? Or toolboxes to genrush? Not going to believe it lol
-
New Ruin is very cool
Except IT BUYS YOU NO TIME TO SET UP TRAPS
I thought Ruin was a perk to slow down game for setup killers, but other used it too because it was too strong, New Ruin may be good but still useless on killers that need time to set up VERY early game, before they even find surviviors.
Dont forget this is Hags perk ffs
-
That would make no sense. Corrupt is supposed to force surviviors to group together and go towards killer. Thats why it blocks FARTHEST gens not CLOSEST
