I would literally never bother to play solo survivor if keys did not exist. It's fun to run around with flashlights and toolboxes and all that, but at the end of the day, the matchmaking is just trash. I will get literal rank 15's as my teammates to go up against rank 1-2 killers, and you can guess about how well that will go. There's also tons of people who kill themselves on first hook, AFK teammates, etc etc.
It is annoying to die without a chance just because I happened to join the wrong lobby. A key at least gives me hope to survive some of the most BS builds in the game.
Mori's are also significantly more powerful than keys. Even an Ivory is game-ending because you can just tunnel someone off hook at 5 gens if you want, and it's a hatch game instantly.
Whenever they nerf keys, is when I stop playing survivor and move to purely killer.

Im a rank 1 killer myself with 7000 hours. I know how to play killer efficiently. I dont have problems to kill people but depending on the variables above it is simply not possible to play a decent and fun match for all without frustrating survivors.
And if you face 4 very good survivors on a map with good spawns, you wont have the chance to protect gens and kill survivors as killer without mobility.
You brought up another important point: Map layout.
Thanks for the input!
I also don't know why you care about survivors having fun. It's not your job to make it a fun game, it's your job to kill them. Maybe you are a nice person, but DBD is not a nice game.
You think some teabagging SWF with purple flashlights and OoO is out there for you to have fun?

Yes, if you face a decent group which knows how to loop efficiently, it will become pretty tough for killers. A coordinated group will finish gens no matter how you chase them.
Except there are a wealth of killers who just straight up ignore looping for the most part. You can also just use bamboozle or spirit fury and looping nearly ceases to exist.
I can't remember the last time anyone was able to run me for any significant amount of time as a bamboozle brutal strength clown. Maybe someone humping the god windows on disturbed ward?
Half the time they get greedy for extra loops and punished by bamboozle incredibly hard, especially at loops like cow tree or the ironworks of misery god-window where they get boxed in by it.
You can quickly carve out some dead zones and just protect the gens near those. If you know you are going to be running into a 4 man on comms just use the killers best add-ons or a mori. Pretty simple.
-
A good killer is going to be dropping survivors left and right. Either by playing someone overpowered, or by actually using a good build on a regular killer.
Half the people complaining here are probably just tunneling some guy through god windows with an M1 killer, not knowing you could/should be running perks to cover those kinds of weaknesses.
The last 5-6 purple rank killers I faced all just tried to down me no matter the cost, even though I was prepared and in an extremely strong position. It usually costed them multiple generators to get a down. The last few red rank killers I faced all dropped those kinds of chases with 10-20 seconds and found better ones. Notice a pattern?
-
Go up against some rank 1-2 killers playing meta builds on killers like freddy or spirit, and you will be wishing you could rush the gens even faster.
Most killers who complain about gen rushing are just focusing one guy the entire match instead of spreading the damage, which is how you should be playing.
This is what gen rushing actually is, by the way:
Unless the survivors you are facing are rocking a build like this, you are probably just not applying enough pressure.
-
You can't hide from whispers. If you are having trouble finding anyone during your corrupt use that as well.

Tell this to the killers I loop for 5 gens and 4man escape.
And they were probably just pepega. What about all the games I load in, have 2 people kill themselves on first hook, and then the killer finds me? I can loop them almost indefinitely, literally hitting EVERY pallet on the map, outplaying them at every single step, and it won't matter.

"You see legion, you are injured" But he cant really kill you, unless he is quite good. Just use Resiliance, easy win without Ruin.
Yeah, and he has to get a whole whopping M1 hit to down people. What about when you load into a horrid map with basically nothing to work with, and you can't even stop him finding you because your team can feed him your location for free.
@epyon said:
Oi mate, dedicated servers go both ways. Maybe you'll get a grab maybe the survivor is in a different dimension already.
"Face camping for easy kills" nice rank 20 bait. If you try to face camp on red/purple you will get a whopping one kill, ez displeased.
I will not comment upon calling lowest tier killer super strong and easy.
If you don't think hag is god tier you are probably just bad. She has statistically some of the highest kill rates in the game, and is braindead easy to play. Lay trap, get a free hit. Anyone competent can pick her up and 4k.
And you might not pip facecamping, but it can 100% get you an easy, easy 4k. If I facecamp it's usually starting at 5 gens, and from there, what can the survivors do? You either trade with BT / DS, which people might not have, OR, you can watch everyone die 1 by 1 on their first hook and still probably 4k even if all the gens get done because by that time there will only be 2 survivors left.
I remember when getting downs used to take some skill in this game, but it's slowly going away.

I did not see a single ghostface at red ranks yesterday. It was mostly freddy and huntress.

Now that ruin is gone most hex totems don't offer an immidiate reward anymore
So would it really be that bad if hex totems rebuild themself after 90ish seconds or so but lose all tokens
Survivors who pay attention still know where they are, so they can always put them out again
It would still be high risk high reward cause being without a perk for 90 sec and losing all progress on it is still devestating
But the risk would equal the reward somewhat then
Haunted grounds lets you take advantage of the lousy totem spawns. You can almost rely on having it within the first minute of the game.

Genrush, Totems wiped in the first 30 seconds, and guess what still Decisive Strike?
Matchmaking/ranking being brutally unfair...albeit that is a problem across the board...
The matchmaking is such a huge problem for solo Q players right now. If you are the random in a SWF you can get literal rank 15's as your team when the killer is going to be red ranks. It's awful when your team is going down every 4 seconds.

Nope, NOED is the ultimate piss off to SWF. The get very salty when you use it and it activates and they get downed by it. SWF friends of mine constantly cry about how OP it is. Same goes for moris, while they run keys, commodius, map offerings.
Wrong. Infectious fright is the ultimate anti-SWF perk. It is impossible to flashlight/pallet save against it. NOED implies I am getting to late game, and have lost. I would rather run other perks and never make it to late game to begin with.

At the same token, Plague is slow. If you want to not be as slow with her when charging vile purge, you need add ons that increase the charge. That being said, there's plenty of loops where you can't hit them with it so you're forced to M1. Freddy is good at shutting down loops, doesn't exactly make him brain dead. Legion is something else, yes he can use his power to force survivors to mend and slow the game down in that aspect. But it won't fix the gen speeds.
You don't even need to chase with her. If you have corrupt intervention, all the survivors will be funneled into you at the start of the game; where you can just splash them a little bit for basically a hit and run injury. If they cleanse they will be totally screwed, and from there everyone is a 1 shot for the entire game.
I personally always run an apple add-on so I get the ability at least once per game, along with infectious fright to make the most out of it. I usually do devour hope on her as well, because you can sneak in the 4th and 5th downs with the apple purge and then hit 5 stacks without the survivors even knowing.
-

Honestly, make it to where it takes 60 seconds to do a gen with two people on it. Hell, even 55 seconds is pretty good.
These survivors who think "oh you want an easy 4k omegalul." All survivors have to do is touch gens, try and loop a killer unless you're super stealthy then you don't even need to do that. And unhook. Meanwhile as a killer you have to chase someone, hit them twice before downing them, put them on a hook 2 times against 4 other people. Yeah, must be easier than doing gens
Depends on the killer you are playing. There's tons of braindead easy killers to play these days. Legion, plague and freddy come to mind. Literally anyone can do well with them. Legion and plague? They see you, you are now injured. Freddy? Just spam M2 as you walk around and congrats you are now impossible to loop, and can bloodlust at every tile in the game with bamboozle.

Nope, impossible. The way it works is, it takes her 0.5 seconds to crouch, 1 second to draw, 0.5 seconds to get up. And the addons only affect the drawing part. So it will never be 1 second to fully set a trap.
Yes, keep putting traps together and activating 5 at once, certainly wasn't a waste of time to set them up.
Or the survivor crouches to get to the hook and away from it. Negating all that time invested in setting up.
Sure mate... I am the rank 20. And hag is so easy and powerful that it's only logical very few people play her on red ranks...right?
I don't think you see her as much at red ranks because she is most effective when camping hooks, and a lot of good killers don't want to camp.
-
@HellDescent said:
No. She actually needs old ruin for early game prep.
Her prep is a minute at most. I think the last time I loaded into blood lodge, with literally the best blood lodge RNG I have ever seen by the way, it was still under a minute to completely shut down every single pallet in the middle of the map.
From there, I got a free hit at a gen with my 16m terror radius because of monitor and abuse, drove them into the center of the map, and got my free down while spamming control.
From there, it was snowballing off that 1 down denying the unhook.
Stupidly overpowered character.

Corrupt intervention is far more powerful than ruin on her. You get 2 minutes to get easy sloppy butcher hits at the first 4 gens while another 3 gens are totally secured for the late game.

Not to mention some of her completely busted add-ons. Why rusty shackles is still in this game is beyond me.

Anyone placing more than 1 trap at a hook is an inexperienced or lower rank Hag. Hard proxying the hook is a great way to lose. Traps at pallets usually just force the pallet down without a hit unless you're in chase and able to mindgame them.
Also, traps at pallets should always be a hit if you know they are going to it. You literally just spam control and then do a lunge because the hag is already positioned for the attack coming out of the teleport.

Why do you assume I am spamming them all down right on it?
I place them far enough where if they are trigged, the survivor cannot bum rush the hook with BT because they will be hitting the second trap placed directly on the hook and then feeding me a slug on top of the hook, which is literally GG if they don't have unbreakable.

1 trap at the hook, and the rest in the area surrounding area? Yes.
But god, wasting so much time putting 10 traps down less than 10 meters away from the hook is something we all did when we played her the first time, and we only got away with it because the survivors also didn't know what to do... 😂
Fast trap add-ons make setting the traps a second maybe?
So 10 seconds to set up every trap, each of which is potentially a sloppy butcher hit? So 1 second for a hit that takes 20 seconds to heal.
Stay rank 20 my dude. I will be here at rank 1.

10 traps at the hook...that brings memories...
I was such a dumbass the first few times I played hag... 😂
It is still a totally viable way to play her. She is the best 1 hook killer in the game, next to bubba. There is no counterplay to a good hag except crouch walking everywhere, crippling your teams gen progress. With fast trap add-ons you can shut down an entire area of the map in just 30-40 seconds. Hag doesn't have a bad map. Most killers do.
Why do you think she has a statistically higher kill rate than almost every other killer in the game?

Hag is one of the most overpowered killers in the game currently.
But clown has 2 of the best perks that exist, and is very satisfying to use because of his incredible sound effects. Your call.
-
Sure, I have already swapped to corrupt intervention instead. But I mostly am done playing the weak killers, like clown, who kinda need it if you are serious about a 4k.
There's plenty of overpowered killer characters who can get away without using it. Why do you think every streamer in the world plays huntress?

Looks insane? Cleanse the totem that stick out like a sore thumb
All depends on the map and RNG. You get disturbed ward and the survivors spawn on top of it, your perk is gone in 20-30 seconds,
You get or offer Hawkins and it spawns behind a barrel in some random room? It will be up the entire game.
-
@twistedmonkey said:
Is it the killer or a mix of also certain perks carrying them then much like some survivors?
My point is always rank is not about skill but time. This game doesn't separate a 5k hour like yourself with a 100h player. This is why most complaints need to be taken with a grain of salt as they will be versing better players.
In your case you win 95% of your games then only 5% are top tier. So If it's down to bad rank 1 players on both sides then in theory that would even out as you need 4x the amount of bad survivors per bad killers to even it out in the stats.
I would say the last bastion of BS that survivors hold now is the keys. But killers still have a wealth of overpowered items and characters to call upon.
And the keys are honestly not even that overpowered for solo Q, only for SWF on comms, which is overpowered to begin with. I don't mind keys in solo Q because it is very hard to communicate you even have one; or have found the hatch.
-
@twistedmonkey said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/971159#Comment_971159
But then if most are not good then why so many complaints? That itself tells more of a story and you then have to wonder what the complaints actually mean when they complain every game is a swf hit squad when rank 1 is full of bad survivors.
There are plenty who can do extremely well with low teired killers. Maybe its not the killer but the time they took to learn them. Survivor after all are just skins where as each killer needs to be learnt to be effective with them.
That is because there are just as many bad killers as there are bad survivors. As I stated before, there's plenty of killers at rank 1-2 who don't, or cannot, mindgame; because they don't need to. The killers themselves carry them.
I must have around 5000+ hours in this game and there's only a handful of sweaty SWF groups I recognize. The ones that run every second chance perk in the game, know how to loop like gods, and also rock every broken item that exists. The other 95% of my killer games are stomping solo Q players who usually do not have a prayer.
-
@twistedmonkey said:

Rushing gens wont get you to rank 1. You need chases along with saves.
If survivors just do gens and get out then they back pip after a set point much like killers who camp.
Skill is in the chase for both sides but its not the only skill. Knowing when to evade, Leave a chase, Pressure a gen, Slug, Do gens, Take a hit, Mindgame plus many many more are all about knowledge and skill within play.
holding W or M1 will only get you so far.
I disagree, otherwise I would not be seeing rank 1 survivors who are so bad in a chase.
Most red rank killers just play easy mode killers like huntress, billy, spirit, hag, freddy, plague, etc. It is not very often you run into a mindgaming M1 killer who is really good.
Someone like freddy is literally the hold W killer. Spam M2 and hold W, and can rock spirit fury for even more free hits. I've seen plenty of rank 1-2 Freddie's who don't mindgame, ever.

If that is truly the case then why do so manycomplain about red ranks while stating every game goes so fast? surely they would have more slower games than fast ones? the truth is ranks are about time played nothing more and most only remember when they lose a game badly.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/970902#Comment_970902
I've saw matches where people throw themselves at the hook, others where 2 are left and manage to do 3 gens. Its never over till the fat lady signs. Even once the gens are done its never a good idea to give up as a kill can be just a few steps away.
Patterns change constantly and why the nature of a PvP game is different. The unpredictability is what makes them fresh even with such simple concepts.
Every survivor at red ranks is going to be rushing the gens, it's part of how they are getting there. If they are good in a chase or not is a different story. When I play survivor my goal is to always be on a gen unless I am being chased or saving someone. The chase is the only part of this game that takes any real skill.
Anyone can hold M1 and hit good skill checks, ruin is what stops people mindlessly doing gens and makes it require some sort of effort. You can get gen rushed by some rank 15's if you make the (poor) decision to chase their rank 1 friend too long.
The problem is, there is simply way too much to work with on a lot of the maps if you are good at looping and mindgames. But bad/new players will not use the pallets to their fullest extent, which is why so many need to exist.
The counterpoint is a map like Hawkins, where there is almost nothing to work with and it's basically a slaughtering ground for any competent killer. Those kinds of maps feel designed for rank 1 survivors, but end up being incredibly oppressive to newer players.
That's why you can have a rank 1 survivor who will camp shack pallet and just drop it on you while totally healthy, and a rank 1 survivor who will loop the shack for a minute, take a hit, loop it for another minute, and only drop the pallet at the very last second to avoid going down.
-
NOED is garbage. You only get it after you have lost the game basically, I would much rather have early and midgame perks.
I am swapping to corrupt and will be maining the insanely overpowered hag from now on. The gen rush is going to be real and with the prevalence of keys at red ranks it means you can lose the game after 3 gens are done half the time.
1 hooking everyone with hag is a good counter to the gen rushing.
-
@twistedmonkey said:
The average game at red ranks is 12m on the last stats. This was shown after 2 years of complaining about gen speed. There is no reason to think that it has dramatically changed with all the changes since then.
Keep in mind it is very easy for survivors to get into red ranks currently. You will have 200 hour survivors mixed in with 5000+ hour survivors and both are weighed equally according to the game.
There is a massive, massive difference between going up against your average red rank survivor and someone who has literally every loop in the game memorized.
The game is totally different when you are fighting for literally every M1 hit. As opposed to what I typically see when I play killer, which is potato red ranks survivors who go down easy. There's still rank 1's who will camp shack pallet and stun me with it in the first minute of the game.
That's why I don't think those stats are meaningful.
-
Maybe, but ruin at red rank play is typically only there to stop 3 gens popping while you get your first down. Now that is wide open to happening at all times, so while the combo will be extremely strong, you would probably only have it for 1-2 gens at red ranks unless you are decimating the team.
And if that is happening, you didn't need the perks anyways. Corrupt + discordance is probably the new meta.

Except those "nerfs" weren't NEARLY to the extent of the nerf Ruin is getting. Ruin was gutted.
BL got gutted, what are you talking about?
This new ruin looks pretty insane with surveillance. Gens are just constantly regressing at all times and you know if someone is working on any of them? Too bad it will still be gone in the first few minutes of the game.
I can see the reason for the change, a lot of my games when I play killer will be SWFs carrying along new players. So it will be 1-2 rank 2-4 survivors and some rank 15's. The rank 15's just get so crushed it is probably off-putting for them. They can't do gens, they won't last 30 seconds in a chase, they will be bad at hiding, and they are feeding me snowball perks like pop with their easy downs.
Meanwhile, a full red rank lobby will usually have some toolbox gamers who just power through it and don't care at all, or it's dead in the first minute of the game.
-
@Almo said:
New Ruin is extremely powerful late game. It must be a Hex Perk, or it would be OP as hell.
Why ever run it over devour then? Or NOED? If your totem makes it to late game, which it won't because in 80% of the maps the totem spawns are garbage, you may as well be full god mode with devour instead of regressing the gens a bit faster (which everyone has pop for anyways).
Maybe it's overpowered on a map like Hawkins but then you got maps like Wreckers Yard where I don't think I have seen my hex totem last over 2 minutes in the past 30-40 times I have played on it.
-
I really don't see how you are going to slow the game down enough now without playing scummy if the survivors are good, and you are playing an M1 killer.
It was already borderline impossible to 12 hook a team of rank 1 survivors on some of the worst killer maps (blood lodge, Thompson house, haddo, etc).
My ruin typically only lasts between 30 seconds and 2 minutes at red ranks, which I feel is still worth it for how powerful it is. The new one looks awful for a perk so easily cleansed in the first few minutes of the game.
Ruin is only really oppressive on the indoor maps like Hawkins, but that map is already so killer favored it's almost a free win always. Ruin on 75% of the maps? Spawns right in the open next to a generator.

What do you mean they don't work together? You can literally hook bomb with BT + Deliverance and get a free deliverance every time.
Deliverance is probably the best anti-basement perk that exists. You can trade for the person in the basement and just get yourself out with DS + Deliverance. Check these clips, I traded in the basement for this streamer and then deliverance out into a key escape for a 4 man out.

Devour hope is a bit useless if they find it before ruin or anything else.
It's a go big or go home perk. I advise using it with a map offering instead of just in a random build. The game, springwood, lerys, and hawkins are all really good for it.
All the other maps? You will need to be running thrill of the hunt, because it's liable to spawn right in front of the survivors. And devour + thrill is a pretty lousy build tbh, too much invested into a perk that can still be eliminated in the first 30 seconds of the game.

I stand by my statement. Huntress is up there as one of the three most mindless killers in the game. Hag, Huntress, and Spirit.
-
It's because huntress gameplay is mindless and honestly isn't too much better than spirit. It's just a 50-50 guess if she is going to pull up a hatchet at the pallet or do an M1. Now add in instadowns on top of that and it's just busted.
