I even got it when one of the gates got opened. I remember that I scared a survivor off the gate switch, but that gate was opened later. Either a bug or that moment already counted as success
Hmmm that sounds wrong. Report it in the bug section of the forum! :)

Unnerving Presence is one of The Trapper's perks, and this Tome is themed around him.

Psst, check the date, Almo.
Hahah I thought I did check the date! :D You're right.

Try getting out of tier 3 the moment BT activates or he leaves you. The Deep Wound timer will not go down while in the terror radius. A lot of Doctors run Distressing, which makes his terror radius around 40 meters. By the time you exit his terror radius, you should have snapped out of it and already started the mending action. If he continues to chase you, then loop him until he leaves you. Make him want to stop chasing you and the moment you see him leave, start snapping out of it. The Deep Wound timer also pauses while Mending, so you won't have to worry about going down right after you snap out of it.
I haven't read the entire thread, but I'd just like to point out that now Deep Wound does not go down if you are mending or running. It's not related to TR anymore.

Regarding rank reset update:
One serious problem we had was people who don't play a lot who still want to rank up. Sure, playing a game a month just isn't enough. But when it takes quite a few games to get from 15 to 5 and each month it knocks you right back down, that's not fun, nor is it indicative of how good you are at the game.
Also, the system knocked everyone from 1 down to 10, and then various ranks down to 15 depending on how far from 1 you were. Given how the matchmaking algo works (in order to get queue times down), that meant every single player in the entire pool was a legal target to play with every other player in the pool.
-
I've had a lot of good experiences talking to the players here. I like the forums. I just tune out the excessively negative stuff; it's not hard to spot. :)
-
I would just like to comment that Mettle of Man is used by many players, and the comment that "literally nobody plays MoM" isn't true.
-
Welcome to the game! It's complex, fun, presents interesting moral choices, and we hope you enjoy it. :)
-
We took a hard look at the maximum gen-slow from a full Freddy slow build. We decided we didn't like those addons giving such a slowdown. So we changed them.

There was no leak. Someone just left the tap running and now the bathroom is flooded.
Oh right. I hate it when that happens.

His upcoming changes that were leaked seem great, actually. Removing the need basically to switch between treatment and punishment modes.
What leak.

The EGC is doing exactly what was intended. Stopping matches from ending with the Survivors just running around with an open gate against a Killer who is unable to pressure them enough to leave. They can try this with a 99% gate, but the Killer can just open it and force the match to end.

I hope this isn't too late... I was watching a lot of horror games and some youtubers got recommended to me (monto, demi, and noob3)
Then what solidified the deal we're the horror icons but the one that made me buy it was the pig I just HAD to play her
And though she feels gimmicky and sometimes really weak, shes still my favorite, this is a great game and I enjoy playing it, though I like watching it more.
Pig is not weak. She's got a pretty high kill rate even in red ranks. :)
-
I'm not convinced 2v8 would be fun. A lot of systems in DbD depend pretty heavily on the power balance as it shifts from 4v1 early game to 1v1 late game.
-
One of the key elements I like about DbD is that Killers don't need to worry about getting attacked. They are unstoppable; Survivors' only defense is to avoid the Killer. One reason I don't have much interest in those other games is that Survivors can hurt the Killer, and in some games they can even hurt each other.
It's the sense of being a real predator that makes playing Killer fun for me. Sure, it's possible the Survivors all escape. But that's all they can do... escape.

I was playing For Honour and found Tru3ta1ent on YouTube really getting into the game mechanics which helped me learn a lot.
Signed up to Twitch and started watching him and he also played this weird looking horror game called DbD.
Not didn't make much sense watching but his explanations while playing really got me interested, to the point I was watching someone play something I thought was PC only and I’d never get to play, like so many others.
A few days later a couple of friends mention that this multiplayer horror game was coming to PSN and they thought it looked like my sort of thing as I love horror games.
3 of us picked DbD up just before Huntress came to console for free; and we got around 5 or 6 more people to try the game too.
Unfortunately I'm the only one still playing, mainly due to the barrier to entry to unlock decent perks and the spiralling cost of content.
Every update I’m hoping something changes that will bring people back in.
One of the For Honor designers is on our design team now. ;)

Wow, talk about the chance of that happening. You got pretty lucky there Almo.
Yeah, don't I know it. :) I felt weird having worked at the company DbD was made at and not having tried it all that time (this was around July 2017). People had even told me it was really good and I just never got around to trying it. Wish I had; would have been interesting to watch over its live development. Seriously... what were 40-second gens, permanent hook sabotages and permanent NOED like?
-
I was asked by the CCO of the division of BHVR I was in, "Hey, do you like DBD?" So I downloaded it and played over a weekend. I said next week, "Yes". He replied, "How would you like to work on it?"
And here I am. :)
-
Hey, I didn't intend this to turn into such a huge thread. But thanks for keeping it positive! Gotta hit the sack, see you around in The Fog!

Almo can you talk, to the extent that you're allowed to, on what tools you use to measure balance.
I know that you guys do gather some statistics, like those released.
What are some other stats that you gather?
What motivates you to change a perk, a killer, or a mechanic
Are you open to making major changes to the base kit for all survivors/killers?
What's your favorite food?
Most of these are too broad for me to answer concisely. I can't even really say what my favorite food is, I like a lot of different kinds! :D

I actually have a question for you @Almo and you don't have to answer it.
What is it like to work with BHVR and how do you deal with the community on a day to day basis? A community that seems to always has something to say about the game you and BHVR are trying to make.
I know I've had my fair share of complaints on BHVR in the past, the recent update being one of those (although I really enjoy playing as Yui and the Oni, I think they're fantastic). But how do you deal with a community this large and this vocal about every change made to the game they play?
There's a lot of positivity in the community, and I mainly focus on that. :)

@Spooky13 said:
Wow, so now we know the leaked lore for the upcoming Almo survivor!
Now for some questions. Which side is harder to balance for, killer or survivor?
Which killer was the hardest to find a balance for?
Which new chapter was the most fun to balance/create?
Finally, what killer has your favorite Mori? Really curious to all the devs answer to this.
I don't think either Killer or Survivor is harder to balance, but they both present their own challenges. For example, you can come up with some cool Survivor perk, but it's just broken as hell if all four Survivors run it at the same time.
I don't work on new content, so I can't really say which chapter has been the most fun to work on. I will say that adjusting a Killer with a very high annoyance rate but low kill rate was a really interesting challenge (Legion). I took some clues from Riot and how they worked on Darius; he had a 60% ban rate, but 48% win rate.
My favorite Mori is either Huntress for the brutality of that first head shot, or Legion for that evil ankle-drag. shudder
-
I like a lot of the Killers, but Myers is one of the best at generating creepiness through his play mechanics. Turning the camera to see him not moving behind something, but staring...
Peoples' creativity with tricky ways to use the updated Freddy are very impressive.
I have not actually done Killer design, as that's handled by the designers who make new content. I work on existing content.
Our prototype Killers often start as the Doctor with a baseball bat and just a flat red texture all over. Seeing that spit little white blobs during the Plague prototyping looked pretty hilarious. :D

Quite an impressive resume. I'm not familiar with many of the games you have had a hand in creating, aside from splinter cell, but I'm sure many of us fansr appreciate the opportunity to speak with and pick the mind of one of the balance designers.
As someone whose been a fan of this game~to varying degrees, I have a question or two, some along the lines of which I'm sure you were expecting to be presented with at some point when creating this thread.
I first want to ask, what was the reason you chose to adjust both nurse's add-ons and her base kit?
This was handled by someone else on the design team. But the main thing we wanted to do was A) make the addons more interesting and varied and B) give Survivors some space if they managed to avoid a double blink attack.

Okay, you know a lot about coding so it makes me curious since I'm really interested in following your foot steps.
What degree did you need to become a game programmer / game designer? 😁🤗
Currently, I know Javascript and HTML. I took AP Computer Science a while ago and passed it with ease.
Am I going in the right direction?
My recommendation is to make something. I had published 4 Mac shareware titles in the late 90s, so when I sent out my first application to a game company in the UK, I could already show that I knew how to start, manage and complete a project on my own.
The education always helps, as it broadens your skill set and your ability to acquire new skills.
This is of course just my opinion, and with regard to starting a career I also recommend getting many different peoples' recommendations and see what feels right for you. :)

Very cool! What was it like working for such a big company like Ubisoft? Was it cold, corporate culture, was was it more relaxed? How was the work-life balance compared to working at BHVR?
I worked with a lot of really talented people at Ubi. My experience there was good; I stayed for 6 years.
One funny thing happened related to working at such a big company. Someone at one of their offices in India got married, and sent an announcement to the mailing list "Ubisoft - World - Production". Well, that meant anyone in production, so that included all artists, programmers, team leads, QA, QC, etc. It pretty much only excluded accounting, marketing, and stuff like that. Probably 5,000 people got that mail!
I was nice and just sent a note back of congratulations. :) I bet she got a flood of email that day. :D

You are correct, but changing what Merciless means, if done properly, will require more work than just reverting it to 4k. The idea would be not only to change the requirement (to whatever it becomes), but also to clarify to the player what's going on with it.
-
I use it sometimes. I mostly like the (imagined) look on their face when the gates open and BOOM down. And I imagine the "######### he's got NOED hate that guy what a noob" going on in their voice chat.
And then I chuckle silently to myself.

I haven't been on the project long enough to know for sure about the old adepts (that was a long time ago!). But it's possible that was before we were on consoles. Steam doesn't care, which is why we were able to change Skilled Huntress to 20 there from 100.
About new adepts, we wish to keep these consistent across the board. It's possible we could change what "Merciless" means, but then it's a matter of priority.
I agree these are unbalanced in terms of how hard they are to get compared to Survivors's adepts, so I hope to address this at some point in the future. I just can't make any promises about it.
-
In my personal opinion (not as a developer, but as a player) The Doctor is the most annoying to play against.

no.
that is one of my main problems with Deep Wound, when the timer stops inside the TR, there is little to no threat to it.
pig traps already take forever to kill, pausing them in even more scenarios would take away all the pressure they are supposed to put on you.
in the end, you could just keep genrushing the killer even with a trap on you, which defeats the whole point of pig traps.
on top of that, if the killer would do that it'd be the same as hookcamping someone. they would waste tremendous amounts of time for a single kill.
on top of that, she can crouch and deactivate her TR at any given time.
Deep Wound just got changed. It now stops only if you are running or mending.
-
It's really hard to change achievements on consoles. As an example, we'd like to change Skilled Huntress to be 20 shots like it is on PC as 100 is way too many of these to ask for. But they ask us, "But is it still possible to attain these?" We say, "Yes, but it will suck." And they say, "If it's still possible, you can't change it."
Other achievements have been changed because they became literally impossible to attain because of gameplay changes.

Escaped and didn't get it for the new survivor. I know killer got changed to 4k and double pipe awhile back.
Do survivors now need to double pip?
Just make sure you have that Survivor's three perks and an empty 4th perk slot.
-
I have not had this particular issue. I've run the addons you're talking about, and have not been accused of cheating.
This is not to say you're not having the problem... just answering your original question about whether others have the issue. :)
-
I know that I am biased. But after 900 hours of play (not including playtests at work, which are on a seperate account), I'm not bored. I always find some new situation or some weird thing happens to keep it fresh.

I just got dead by daylight around two months ago now, and I feel I've gotten pretty damn good at it. I watch a ton of videos to learn new, and master preexisting techniques and strategies. I am just curious to hear what different peoples' opinions are for liking different killers. Personally, I like Wraith, Legion and Clown. Wraith, because he is a very straightforward and easy to master killer, Legion because playing him forces me to go for perfect games (sort of a go big or go home type killer to me), and Clown because he is really easy for me. I am rank 10 or so in both killer and survivor and I want to keep trying to get better at this game, because I have grown passionate about it. Bill is the best survivor btw :))))
Guess who my favorite is. ;)
-
I've let 4 people go in about 850 hours of play. Those were cases where it looked like a solo Survivor caught in a 3-person SWF who were playing in a really unpleasant manner, causing them to be the last one standing with no real chance of escape.
As for "rules", one of DbD's great strengths is "player agency". Killer plays how they want, Survivors play how they want.
-
My PowerPoint templates use the NOED icon instead of the DbD icon. :)

These do not trigger the challenge. The challenge is based on doing the action to destroy the pallet.
EDIT: I was wrong, they do count.

Stats that Peanits have said you shouldn't draw any conclusions on. So which is it? Do we listen to the stats that are broad and have no detail or dismiss them as Peanits suggests?
Also, once again, you are picking one of THE BEST streamers of Dead By Daylight. I don't think that's fair to the average player.
When I refer to "Statistics", often I refer to the more detailed ones we have.
Also, a blanket statement like "Killers are not in control above rank 10" is clearly not true given what we know about the game. SOME Killers may not be, but the original statement I am refuting doesn't need to be falsified for all players to be untrue in general.

Fungoose is also one of the best and most knowledgeable streamers out there for DBD. I don't think you can compare his games to most average games Almo.
The contention was, "Killers are not in control above rank 10". This is not true. The many Killer streamers who are in control are counter-examples. This is also does not appear to be true according to the statistics that show Killers averaging 75% kill rate at high rank.
-
@Sylorknag said:
Lol. Lots of entitled survivors I see.
If you play past rank 10 you know that killers are not the power role, they don't dictate the pace of the game, they are any shape of form in control.
You are just waiting for survivors to be over autruistic or to fck up.
I think Fungoose might disagree with you there. :)

That's not correct -- plenty of game have had their achievement/trophy requirements changed long after release.
We have even gotten some changed... once they became impossible. Just a change to the number is something they are not letting us do. As long as it's still possible, they are VERY hesitant to let us change an achievement.
