Blocking every gen on the map without any counterplay, 4 times per match, is such a "holding killers like babies" implementation into the game. Patrolling gens and applying pressure is outdated, I guess. Now you can regress gens (pain res) AND block them (grim embrace and/or DMS) without moving more than 16 meters away from the hook. You control so many things in the match without actually leaving the hook and checking gens. Does no-one find this ridiculous?
When I start losing gens rapidly mid-game, I know that I failed at applying decent pressure. I should not be given the crutch of being able to block all gens so I don't throw a tantrum for losing a game when I was not doing well that game. What's next? A perk that activates when you hook a survivor for the first time, and it makes everyone injured/broken for x seconds? Going out, finding and hunting survivors? Not anymore. With this new product, you can now injure and down survivors from the coziness of your couch/ proxy camping.
I swear, soon enough, killers will be able to injure, down and kill survivors without ever leaving that first hooked survivor. And all gens will be exploding and getting blocked for 50% of the match. Kind of feels like FNAF lol. You just stay at one place and control everything.
What a lazy, boring direction this game is taking, sheesh.

Gabriel needs some casual clothes, sports clothes, animal onesies, pyjama, blighted outfit, valentine's, etc. Such a beautiful character with a cool lore, and they are totally neglecting his cosmetic potential. It is baffling.
-
This begs a question... are ALL events we know of getting removed, in favor of new limited time modifiers....?
Maybe 2024 is the year when we kiss goodbye the Anniversary Event (including the offerings), Halloween event and Bone Chill. What if they are removing ALL of these events?
I really can't think of a reason why BHVR is seemingly wanting to get rid of their players. It really doesn't make sense.

And when have the new Grim Embrace supposedly being a "solution" to anything?
It's just a perk that had a weak effect for what it required to trigger it that now is a good slowdown perk with a decent effect. Don't know where you got it was a "bandaid" to anything.
Also, can we stop with the "Mah SoloQ", please? Every single team-based game out there would be worst if you play it with randoms and no communications. What SoloQ needs is that, in-game communications, not having the whole game balanced around them.
I only play solo Q when I play survivor, because I don't have people to play with. And no, you can't just easily magically get friends who will be into DBD and resonate with you personality-wise and want to play when you want to play.
I think most of DBD survivors are solo Q. Neglecting us is a bad choice for the game's health.... and our will to play survivor / DBD.

Grim Embrace is a good solution but it is not fun for survivor.
It's good for those 1000+ killer win streaks, I guess... ☠️

Having to rely on a specific perk to "fix" a problem in the game is a bad solution in my opinion.
Past instances where this has happened:
1) introduction of Shattered Hope to deal with old Circle of Healing, instead of properly nerfing/changing Circle of Healing. The change to CoH came much later.
2) introduction of Reassurance to deal with camping, instead of addressing camping. Camping partially got addressed much later (the anti-facecamp) feature.
And now we have Grim Embrace to try to fix genrushing. Having to use 1 specific perk to deal with a game design problem is no good. At least in my opinion.
-
@Rumble said:
Disagree, this helps alleviate the complaints of killers gen rushing without impacting gen speeds. Even as survivor it almost felt fair
First of all, Grim Embrace will not help you with 2-3 gens popping before you get to hook a single person. It only activates after hooking. Basekit Corrupt Intervention would. Second, it sucks having to rely on a perk to be able to control gens. That's just a bad design.

I created an account on the forums just for this. How is there no Lunar New Year event??? Is the game going downhill? Why wouldn't we have this as mentioned by someone previously, the year of the dragon, are we not hosting this?
The devs have not commented yet, not given any justification and explanation on why they removed the event. I wouldn't be surprised if they removed the Anniversary event as well, or at least simply stopped making anniversary offerings. Like, what is the point of introducing cool new stuff (like Lights Out) if they're gonna delete something else that we've enjoyed every year so far.... :(

yeah, this whole february looks like a bust. i don't think anything's motivating me to play other than hillbilly changes and those aren't good enough imo cause i don't want to play hillbilly 24/7. sad month ahead of us
Yeah, there's quite a few of awful changes that came with today's update
- RIP solo q with the new oppressive Grim Embrace
- RIP M1 killers with the destroyed STBFL
- RIP Lunar New Year Event on the COOLEST year of the Chinese Zodiac - Dragon
- Twins have been bugged for almost 2 months , and the devs have not fixed their bugs

it seems they really hate having more players. i cannot understand the reasoning to having lights out gamemode in the lunar new year event slot. they better have something amazing planned after lights out ends or people will go back to being bored again.
Lights Out seems cool, but it cannot replace the Lunar New Year Event. It was so much fun interacting with envelopes. I loved getting red toolboxes and firecrackers. :( Now characters like Gabriel or Nicolas will never get those....
Not to mention, we are not getting any male lunar cosmetics?? Like don't get me wrong, the Yun-Jin and Kate Lunar cosmetics look absolutely stunning, I love them so much. But no new Lunar cosmetics for male survivors??? And no new Lunar cosmetics for killers???
Why, BHVR, why?
-
Imagine not holding a Lunar New Year event on the coolest year of them all: year of the dragon ! This year won't come back for 12 more years btw!
Like, it baffles me so much. Why would they remove such a cool event?? Was DBD suffering from success that much that the devs looked for ways to decrease the player count? I honestly don't get it.
I grinded a lot during the double BP / shards double weeks, and was gonna take a few days of a break, and then play again for the Lunar New Year event. But now that the event is not happening, I have no reason to play for at least a week. The new tome will be open for 70 days, so I can take a lot of time with it.
There is nothing incentivizing me to play this week. Year of the DRAGON! They could have made the Lunar event spectacular and better than ever before. And instead they killed it. That's beyond sad. A significant part of DBD has just got removed.
-
Okay, they just mentioned it on stream: NO Lunar New Year event this year.....
BUT WHY ??

I went to ormond today. Brought a sacrificial ward and the survivors brought a Ormond offering. Still went there. What is the point of a sacrificial ward if I go to the bad map anyway? 3 times this has happened to me. I was going on a 2 month streak of no DCs as killer before this. Please can sacrificial wards be fixed? I'm tired of going to badham and garden of joy even after I took the time for a sacrificial ward. If I'm stressed enough to bring a ward already and then my ward doesn't work it is really depressing. Please BHVR you have fixed a lot of stuff the last few years let this be the next problem you fix 🙏
Have you reported this in the bug section yet? If it's a legitimate bug, reporting it there could prompt the devs to take a look at it.

Okay, I get the criticism but I do not think that Grim Embrace will be as bad as bad as old Eruption. Eruption left you in a state where you could no do anything: No healing, no totems, no chests, no nothing. And it did that for a whole 25 seconds.
Now Grim Embrace only blocks the gen up to 4 times per trial for 12 seconds. You would need to hook 4 different survivors to end up somewhere near the value of 2 old eruptions (not even counting that old Eruption also did damage to the generator and 25 seconds of free regression to follow).
I am quit happy with the new Grim Embrace, however it should not combo off with DMS or allow the Killer to spot where the anti-facecamp is kicking in. This needs a tweak.
But overall I did not get the feeling of misery that some of you are talking about. If anything I like another perk that rewards the Killer for hooking different survivors.
The perk does way too much. Blocking every gen up to 4 times, and there is nothing you can do about it. Eruption you could play around (although in solo q it was hard). You can play around Thrilling Tremors and Dead Man's Switch. You can't play around this, at all. Unless you're a cracked SWF that can keep stalling that first hook with sabo plays and/or FTP + Buckle Up.
I'm assuming you're a killer main who keeps having troubles with SWFs, and that's why you're so happy about this perk coming to live. You probably don't play solo q survivor, so you won't even feel the pain of the disaster that's about to come to the live servers.
I'll probably try a few survivor games, but after a few matches of not being able to touch gens for 80% of the match, I'll just ALT-F4. Blocking survivors from doing objectives is the worst thing you can do to them. Yes, you can still heal, but if no-one's injured, or you don't have an injured teammate nearby, you'll just be doing nothing. What a terrible, terrible design.
-
I really hope the devs undo the Grim Embrace changes, that would fix so many things. But again.... if we have to wait for *6 months* for them to change it, my survivor days might be seriously over. And I just got a P 100 survivor, so this is really sad 😢
-
I really don't want to suffer against the new Grim Embrace for the next 6 months 😢
I'm sure killers will proxy camp even more now.... Hook someone, then step away just far enough for Grim Embrace to Activate. Then Dead man's Switch activates as well. And when someone comes in for a save, down them and hook them. And then you get the broken combo once again. So *camping* is going to be very much rewarded now. I smell the return of camping Bubbas.... 😞
Very funny.... You hook and don't even need to go patrol any gen at all, because you know all of them are blocked. Pair that with Deadlock, and you're all set.
-
I use Thana on Plague just to push survivors to cleanse and give me my corrupt purge. Otherwise good survivors will not cleanse until all gens are done.

I wish I had something positive to say I was very excited for this update. Everything for the most part was heading in the right direction.
There are definitely some changes they need to make to fix this update before it goes live, unfortunately I don’t believe that’s going to happen. It’ll be a few more weeks before the patch up stuff.
I believe they have good intentions, I just wish they listen to feedback a little bit more. I know they do pay attention to our feedback, but sometimes it feels like it’s overlooked.
I too was excited for this patch! Lots of good changes. However the STBFL is getting ruined, Grim Embrace is about to create another oppressive META, Buckle Up is getting untouched, and it seems like Sadako is getting the short end of the stick again. I agree, the devs seem to have good intentions, but they can be really stubborn in taking our feedback and implementing exactly what the majority wants. :/
-
Just like a commenter above me, I think that the new Grim Embrace is an atempt to fix fast gens, but it is not just a bad attempt, but also a harming one, especially on solo q survivors.
The biggest problem have been early gens. 2-3 gens popping by the time your 1st chase is over. People have been suggesting basekit Corrupt Intervention to help with this, and I agree with them. It would be a very healthy change to the game.
Grim Embrace does not address this problem reliably - if your first chase is against a really good survivor, 2-3 gens will pop anyway by the time you manage to hook them. And not just that, people are now MUCH MORE inclined to run the broken FTP + Buckle Up combo, because survivors will now want to prevent the 1st hook from happening desperately. Flashlight saves? Nahhh. With the upcoming Alan's perk that hinders blinded killers, many more killers will most likely start bringing Lightborn. Flashlights will start becoming useless due to the increased Lightborn usage, so the FTP + Buckle Up combo will become even more rampant. ANYTHING to prevent that 1st hook that makes the survivors lose the game automatically.
And of course, not being able to do gens for a long time makes you useless. Unless you happen to have a teammate near you, and at least one of you 2 is injured and could use some heals.
How I would buff the current live servers Grim Embrace:
Keep it like it is, but once you hook 3 survivors for the 1st time, reveal the aura of the last survivor for 10-20 seconds, and make it ignore Distortion and lockers. That way you won't have a survivor just hide and ignore you, so you can get your Grim Embrace reliably. I have been running Grim Embrace for months now, and I absolutely LOVE it. It always catches survivors by surprise, it gives me neat pressure, and I can track down the obsession. It is not META, and it is fun. Perfect for me.
I don't think I'll be running the new Grim Embrace, because it's just awfully oppressive and unfair to survivors. It will also make Thrilling Tremors and Dead Man's Switch pale in comparison (unless you combine it with Dead Man's Switch, which will be another broken combo).
TL;DR
What I want:
- Corrupt Intervention basekit
- revert the Grim Embrace changes, and make it reveal the aura of the last survivor when 3 people are hooked - aura reveal ignores lockers and distortion
- rework Buckle Up so it doesn't pair with FTP unfairly, and so it doesn't make WGLF and MFT pale in comparison.
Thank you for reading <3

From observation they're trying to slow gen progression as much as possible without directly nerfing gen repair speed. Otherwise that Grim Embrace and DMS combo would have never went live despite the obvious flaw.
That's what I thought too. But they don't realize that the major problem is with the early gens. Many people have suggested implementing Corrupt Intervention as basekit, which would help a lot in preventing 2-3 gens popping during the 1st chase. Especially when you play Myers, Hag or Trapper.
My guess is that the new Grim Embrace is an attempt to fix that, but in my opinion, it is a very bad attempt. By the time you hook a survivor who was good in chase, 2-3 gens can pop anyway, and then Grim Embrace won't give you what you needed.
Grim Embrace however puts Thrilling Tremors and Dead Man's Switch (by itself or with Pain Res) into obscurity. Just like Buckle Up put WGLF and MFT into obscurity, because it does what they do, but better.

This might be the worst Developer Update they've ever given us.
- Bizarre Onryō nerfs from the PTB that noone asked for.
- No mention of buffs to Alan's perks -- which are widely regarded as mediocre at best.
- Blight somehow being able to keep his infinite rush add-on (this one is truly baffling)
- And the cherry on the cake is the developers acknowledging that players found Grim Embrace + Dead Man's Switch to be problematic but have decided to do nothing about it.
Like ??? What is going on at BHVR ???
I know, right. I really don't get how they're allowing all of this to come to live. 😭
And if we have to wait for months for the devs to change these things, it will really, really suck. :(
(reminder of how long we had to wait for the Made For This change, and the FTP + Buckle Up combo is still rampantly running loose.
-
I would like the devs to buff Dead Hard a bit.
In the PTB, Dead Hard activated when you unhooked someone. (which was kind of RNG based, because depending on the hook distance, and the positioning of you and your teammates, and whether the hooked person has Deliverance, it could be hard to activate it)
Now it activates when you are unhooked.
I propose the combination of the 2 - Dead Hard activates any time either you are unhooked, or you unhook someone. The first chase of the match would still go without Dead Hard, because no-one would have been able to activate it by then, so it wouldn't be hard on killer. On the other hand, more ways to earn it would promote teamplay and reward good loopers.

Yes, it all stacks.
However, the bonuses from Babysitter and NOLB start a little sooner than the basekit Haste effect, so you don’t really get the full 8 or 10 seconds (depending on which perk), it’s more like 7 seconds for Babysitter and 9 seconds for NOLB.
Thank you so much!
-
P 100 doesn't mean much in my experience. I've faced P100's with flashlights that were mediocre, or even bad. Some even gave up on first hook for no reason.
Plus someone could have a P 100 but be playing on a P 22 character that match.

I've seen some streamers use the pants, and.... it looks so bad 😭

Have you heard of not taking things personally? The killer isn't out to get you specifically for any reason. They're not trying to ruin your day. Well, usually not.
Yes it can be frustrating to get tunneled out, but none of your 'best intentions' are a factor in that, only your skill at 'not getting hit'.
Learning to not take this game personally is very important if you want to enjoy it.
You make a valid point, I know. Thank you for your input.

I 100% think tunneling needs some sort of downside but going out that quickly against an M1 killer is a skill issue.
It was a Myers who leveled up fast due to good positioning on RPD. I also got hit twice through pallets that match. Twice. I dropped them and got hit through them anyway. And when I was on death hook, my teammate had a small window where he could have potentially healed me. He didn't. He ran way. Then he had another potential, and he didn't.
It was not a skill issue, the circumstances were just all arranged in a bad way. Plus, Myers is not just an M1 killer. He has an instadown ability, in case you didn't know.

Cause these skins just can't be mixed and matched with each other. Especially with his limited options.
Yeap, exactly. He needs the variety that Vittorio has been getting. And Vittorio's cosmetic designers have been really good.

I mean, I agree with it logically. It is true. However, we humans have feelings, and we humans have compassion for others. Have you ever heard of those 2?
-
I did just a bit of photoshopping, and you can see how much more natural he looks already.
-
I remember the devs answering this question somewhere, saying something like, "we don't want to increase the BP cap further, because it removes the incentives to play the game when new characters come out. If you have enough of BP to get everyone to P3 at once, then there is less motivation to actually play the game when they come out".
I don't remember the exact words, but it was something along this. And I understand it. They want to keep the players engaged.
Also, spending 4-5 million BP at once sucks. The other day, I had 2 mil BP stored, plus done tome challenges, and grade reset rewards. I got 5 prestige levels on one of my characters, in one go. By the time I did the first 2-3 levels, I felt.... exhausted.... and bored. And I am one of the people who generally loves doing bloodwebs. It's fun, I love the sounds, I love choosing nodes of my preference, and I love the "minigames" with the entity, to make it go a certain way and consume a huge chunk of bloodweb at once.
Trust me, you do not wanna spend a lot (4-5 mil) of BP at once. If the cap was at 5 mil BP, it would feel even more tedious than now, because it would be even more apparent just how slow it can be.
I personally feel like the 2 mil BP cap is fine, but I do hope that in the near future we get another improvement to spending our bloodpoints. It needs to be faster.
-
I understand that for a lot of people:
- sometimes you just wanna chillax, do a fun build, and win easily
- sometimes you want to sweat, strategize and face fun and strong opponents.
The problem is when you cannot choose whom you face depending on your mood. I feel like having 2 separate game modes would help a lot with this. Let's say you are a really good player with high win rate. Your MMR is high, so it gives you strong opponents. When you're in the competitive mood, this feels great. When you get a win, it feels incredibly awesome, like you've just beaten a strong Dark Souls boss. Very rewarding.
However later or another day you just wanna have a chill match, and bring a fun/quirky build. The MMR won't let you have that chill match. And then you feel forced to be in this competitive mode. I understand that's why people tend to hate strict MMR. But it's also not fair if you just keep stomping people over and over again in public matches. It might feel really good to you, but your opponents had a miserable match. If you won easily, they lost terribly. It feels bad for them. For a good balance, either both sides need to be in the competitive mindset, or both need to be in the chill, casual mindset.
I am really hoping for the implementation of 2 separate modes: 1 casual one and 1 competitive one. Limit perks/items/addons or randomize them to minimize the sweat potential in the casual mode. And then keep allowing everything in the competitive mode, so both sides can do their best.

I am not saying any of that i am saying banning players is not the way to solve these problems.
Here it's a fault on my part for not specifying what I'm focusing on - I know I proposed banning such players in the original post, but that was more part of my venting. What I want to achieve is addressing the tunneling, and protecting survivors from having a miserable match.
Usually when I make a post on tunneling, I don't focus on banning players, I just want it to be addressed. I propose suggestions like "if a person has been hooked 2 times, and no-one else has, then you could make the person invulnerable until at least 1 other survivor has been hooked once". Or make it so DS disables killer's powers for x seconds, so DS isn't useless against Nurse, Slinger etc.. To me it sounds very reasonable, manageable, and protective of a survivor player who just can't shake off a bully. And people just tend to defend the tunneling and put down my ideas.
I don't know if you have ever been in a position of playing as survivor and getting tunneled out at 4-5 gens left for no good reason. Trust me on this, it feel absolutely awful. Especially when you've just used a limited time BP offering for everyone and it got wasted. It really makes me want not to play the game ever again. I may have got tunneled out in this match because the killer had a rough last match and 4 people escaped and bm-ed them. But that was not me who did it. You know? 😢
-
I feel like MMR should exist, but it needs change. I think that the only thing that really stands out in demonstrating one's skills is chase. For survivors, how long they can last in chase, and for killers, how fast they can end a chase. I don't think that healing or repairing gens in general requires a lot of skill. Chase however does.
That way, if a survivor holds a chase for 3 or more gens, and then gets camped to death on their 1st hook, their MMR would increase, because they held the case for a long time. The killer's MMR should go down a lot, since it took them ages to down that person. And with that, we would need individual MMR gain/loss, instead of the current team gain/loss.
I really hope that they address this. Getting matched with teammates that are new and/or much less skilled than me doesn't feel good at all. They need to face an easier killer, and I need teammates more matched to my skills.
Of course, chase parameters that influence MMR should change based on killer - for Nurse, it would need to be vastly different than for let's say Pig.

You got tunnelled. Tunnelling is a strategy to win, eliminating survivors as fast as possible slows the game down. It's explicitly not against the game rules. Just because they tunnelled you doesn't mean they tried to ruin your experience, it could just mean that they were trying to win. Survivors using combos like ftp and buckle up are just trying to survive, they are not doing anything wrong.
Banning for that is unfair because they are doing their job, killing survivors. Tunnelling being unfun to play against is the game's fault in my opinion.
I understand what you mean. But why don't you guys help me change this? I am all up for Buckle Up rework and Corrupt Intervention basekit. Let's help change both of the "evils", instead of justifying 1 with another. I don't think the tunneling problem should be ignored just because survivors have equally unfair "weapons" in their kit. I think both sides should be addressed. And they are not likely to get addressed, if you guys keep basically saying "it's fine as it is". Let's make this game a better experience for both sides, instead of pretending that everything's okay.

@_Onyx_ said:
Killers tunnel because the gen speed is way too quick. 12 hooks does not compare to 5 generators in time to fulfill
Both tunneling and gen speeds need to be addressed. It's not fair for a survivor to suffer an awful match just because the gen speeds happen to be too fast. That survivor is not the cuase of gen speeds being fast, and doesn't deserve the tunneling treatment.
I am all for Corrupt Intervention becoming basekit. Sure, why not. But tunneling also needs to go. And if the killers don't stop it, they need to be punished for it, so they will stop doing it. An unhooked person only has 1 health state, and cannot get healed if the killer is tunneling them. It is just unfair.
-
@OrangeBear said:
You got killed early, it happens. Saying the killer should be banned for doing that is ridiculous.
It didn't happen randomly. The killer actively pursued me. I remind you, I did not bring a survivor sided map offering, and I did not BM. I even did not get a flashlight/pallet/sabo save on anyone, nor did I attempt it. If there is no punishment for this, then it will keep happening. Help me change this game for the better.
I know that survivors also have unfair stuff (like FTP + Buckle Up), but tunneling should not be defended by this. Instead of justifying/defending 1 evil by the existence of another, and keeping both intact, let's change both.

In my opinion, no killer should be S-tier. S-tier killers in a game where most survivor queues are solos is an overkill. Nurse, Blight and Tombstone addons for Myers need to undergo a big change.
Of course, changes need to happen on the survivor side, too.

- Five Nights at Freddy's - Springtrap as killer and a map from the original games (pizzeria or Fazbear's Fright) would go so hard
- Cindy and Brenda from the Scary Movie film series - these 2 are iconic and loved by many. Many people want them in DBD, too.
- Fortnite - I would LOVE for this collab to happen inside both games. I would absolutely love DBD characters in Fortnite, and I would love some iconic Fortnite characters as survivors, or at leasts skins. 😍
