Hardly any skill? Knowing when and where to place dream snares takes skill because you dont get value from them if not placed correctly. You can argue about skill with the dream pallets, but dream snares take skill.

😂 no. He could just place this mid chase with no slowdown and force you to run into them. That did not require skill.

It was too easy to apply pressure as him.

What if Hag had an alternate trap type like how Clown's can switch to an alternate bottle?

And what would the alternate trap type do? We all know Clown's alternate bottle is useless.

All the perks giving second chances yes.

Why do you need DS ? Don't want to be hooked again after the unhook, ask your teammate to help.

Why do you need to tunnel? Answer that and you'll probably find your answer to why we use DS.

  • I think Pig needs some changes, and Hag could get some gameplay changes too so her power is more intricate than just placing traps and teleporting to them.

Mostly as killer. I hit one survivor with a oni demon slamb and 2 survivors decided "im out". Went on myers and had a survivor kill themself on hook (no tombstone or perma tier 3). And as onryo i jumpscared a survivor so hard they vanished from existance. Im so confused. Anyone else experiencing this?

If I'm getting clearly tunneled out of the game for no apparent reason, then I may be likely to just DC. This is especially true when none of your teammates seems to be making an effort to save you.

I know this discussion is old, but you’re right. The game has made mending too easy for Survivors, especially self-mending. It’s like when you put Survivors in the Deep Wound effect, it takes 5 seconds for them to mend. I know cuz I even kept count one time to make sure.

How did you find this post almost 3 years later lol?

when our most recent maps were Eyeire, RPD, and Midwich, my hopes for new maps are not high. id rather they work on fixing the existing ones (which they also arent doing) than making new ones if the new ones are just going to be worse than the old ones.

I think RPD and and Midwich have a great atmosphere, and their design challenges conventional DBD map design. If anything, the maps are a breath of fresh air since they don't fit the exact carbon copy of other maps.

Plus, I've had some of the scariest matches I've ever had on both of these maps.

I think Eyerie blends old map design with unique map design and does a good job of it. Only thing I don't like about it is how bright the map is.

To me, Midwife and RPD got the ambience perfect.

If Eyerie was perhaps at dawn or dusk rather than full blown day time, I'd like it more.

  • @AnneBonny said:

i'm not, all the new ones are awful

People always say that, but having different maps is valuable. Personally, although I'm not a huge fan of Eyerie, it's okay overall.

RPD may not be the best gameplay design, but it can be one of the most intense maps to play on against a competent killer. I definitely had one of the scariest matches I've ever played against a Myers on RPD.

So how is it fun to have more maps with the same tiles but just other visuals?

Still changes up the scenery rather than playing the same environments over and over. Plus, people complain about everything no matter what. People like to complain. About characters, maps, cosmetics, the devs, etc.

There is no making everyone happen because people love to complain.

  • @BlackRabies said:

We just got a new map with the Artist chapter and playing the same map over and over? IMO I think we got to many maps already.

How do we have too many maps? There's no way you honestly think that.

We've had numerous chapters introduce new characters with no new map. If anything, there's a character overload rather than a map overload.

Plus, this game is technically down 1 map since we lost Hawkins. That doesn't even include the multiple chapters without a map.

  • @Reshy said:

I think what should be done is make the game night time for survivors, but day time for killers. Killers get better visibility in the area they can see, but survivors get worse visibility but over a much wider area.

Also making the red stain less visible across the map, and maybe thickening the fog on the more open maps might be worth considering.

That would kinds get stale don't you think. My idea was just to give each Map variation so that they're not the same each time with the ambience.

  • And many argue Coldwind would look better at night. The point is to have the option. If implemented, Haddonfield could have day, evening and night ambience which is something we've never had.

  • @Tr1nity said:

    Port it to VR

At first I'd think that would make it look like an fps lol. But I guess third person vr is possible.

You didn't agree oflr disagree with my post though 😐

  • It should, in my opinion, be reworked to be more interactive. Just requiring us to hit different buttons in the skill check success zone would make it more difficult and intricate.

  • It's happened already, on console. Back around when the Resident Evil chapter came out, framerates were unplayable with lag spikes dropping the fps to 0 every few seconds. I took a break from the game from basically the middle of June to the middle of September.

  • Can't agree with you here. I appreciate your perspectives, but a lot of this is just personal experiences you've had while playing the game.

The fact is that you'll face different playstyles against different players, but to generalize that all SWF's are high MMR or all killers will tunnel/camp is an over-exaggeration.

Sure it's a way to play that is not fun for survivors, and killers do occasionally have completely valid reasons to want to do so, BUT, this does not happen every game.

One unique thing about DBD is that every match will be slightly different in one way or more. So, to be honest it just seems like you've had rough luck in your matches.

I personally think DBD is currently in a much better state than it was in June and July, around when the Resident Evil chapter released. Yeah, the game still has tons of performance issues, but the game is getting a bit better in that regard. Around June/July/August, however, the game was unplayable on console.

  • Maybe a simple change that can make doing generators more interactive is by still having to hold M1 to work on the generator, but now you'll have to hit a different indicated button within the skill check success zone for the skill check to be successful.

For instance, say you're playing on Xbox, then if you're using one button for the skill check, then the game can recognize that and prompt you to use the other buttons such as the D-Pad (Directional Arrows), the Letters (A, B, X, Y), and maybe even even the bumpers or triggers, depending on which one is not being used to actually M1 the gen.

The same could apply for PlayStation.

If on PC, then simply the game can prompt you to press different keys within the skill check success zone. Not only would this make skill checks more intricate, but it would also make them slightly more difficult and focus-based since you can't only just hit one button to complete the skill checks.

    This ^^

I think it would be far more interesting to see Dead By Daylight's iteration of the classic character that really leans much more heavily into darker horror elements of his story. They've already proven time and time again they can create compelling OC's and they've even proved they can take a recognizable and widely known character and create their own version of their story that sticks to the original core elements that made them who they are while also introducing new, fitting, and otherwise interesting elements to their characters like they did for Ghostface and I can only assume exactly like what they would do for Dracula.

I appreciate all of your feedback. From what I've read I actually agree that having an original Vampire killer instead of a licensed one has way better potential to be amazing. I'm sure there will be a The Vampire one day in DBD.

  • I find it cute when a survivor becomes a duckling and follows me everywhere. So long as they do gens when we get to one, don't attract the killer intentionally, and can loop the killer decently.

Well, it was the most heated topic a couple of days ago. You are just late for the chaos and pandemonium.

BHVR hasn't given us a clear answer in the matter so most of the possibilities are merely conjectures, darting from Netflix wanting to do their own videogame based in Stranger Things to the raise of the license because of the arrival of the new series. The only truth is the agreement is over and the characters are becoming Legacy.

The map will be disabled permanently. There is no going to be a repurpose or reskin of it. This is something the moderators have amply explained. Sadly. It was a good and interesting map and I'm sad to see it go.

Yeah I guess I'm late. It's unfortunate though.

I feel BHVR needs to start focusing more on maps than characters anyway. There are not enough maps to keep the game always refreshing. Especially now since we are losing a map BHVR should at the very least revisit a past original chapter to add maps such as Trickster's or The Blight's or The Twins

  • @miketheratguy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/273959/how-why-did-dbd-lose-the-stranger-things-license

People were talking about it all day yesterday (myself included) which is when the news broke. The only reason it's not the main story is because Pinhead was released today. Some have theorized that the timing of the announcement wasn't a coincidence.

Anyway no one knows for sure why the license is expiring, the team has given only a vague statement on the subject. The general understanding is that it's simply a contractual agreement coming to a close, the license perhaps coming up for renewal and not being picked back up (quite possibly due to a decision by Netflix). My belief, though this is only speculation, is that the map is the only thing that's being pulled because it's the only piece of Stranger Things content that was given to all players for free.

The paid content (characters and cosmetics) will be on sale at half price starting today or tomorrow depending on time zones. I think the statement was that they will remain on sale until November, when they will be permanently removed from the store. Anyone who owns them before that time will keep them, anyone who doesn't won't be able to get them. There's no reason why the team can't redesign the map structure with a different aesthetic and textures to remove all references to Stranger Things (which I myself would like, as Hawkins is one of my top favorite maps in the game) and they may do so, but they haven't said whether that's something that they're considering. Yesterday there were entire celebration threads about the removal of the map, so don't be surprised if someone reminds you that they hate it and are glad that game content that other people enjoy is being taken away.

That is unfortunate honestly. Hopefully we can get another indoor map in place of Hawkins.

I know lots of people don't enjoy the indoor maps but I love them because it ups the horror feel since every corner carries a sense of unknown with it. Tight corners, limited environmental vision, etc.

  • Honestly we need new maps. It gets boring after a while playing the same maps over and over.

  • Probably Hag. I rarely see her.

  • When a trial starts and you don't see the killer and hear the terror radius for a while. I always start to panic and keep looking around me thinking it's a possible stealth killer such as Myers, Wraith, Pig, Deathslinger, Ghostface, etc.

I breathe a sigh of relief once I hear a terror radius since most of the time it reveals who the killer is.

    Basically fear of the unknown.

  • I'm for it. I'd be down for a chapter with just Springtrap + A new map; no survivor.

I agree that there are not many good and notable survivor options.

  • I wouldn't be surprised to see a Castlevania chapter. It would be very cool.

  • Demogorgon is always a fun match. With Deathslinger it sometimes feels like you can't do anything during chase.

There is a turn around period for patches you dont just rush out fixes before you play test them so that you dont find more issues with the new patch thats just sloppy sure itll take longer but they would cause more harm to their name rushing it out

I literally never claimed that performance on any console is “fine.”

You simply dont like what I said, and have resorted to lying to help win an argument that doesnt exist.

    /thread

And I quote, "Both the servers and the framerate are fine."

You stated this in response to the OP who was clearly referring to PS4 when speaking about framerate and servers.

Too big, too complex. Not built to make this game fun or to feel reasonably competitive for either side. I think fans of the RE games might appreciate the adherence to the layout but that nostalgia is only momentary and they we all have to live with it and play in this huge labyrinth. There are a lot of extraneous areas like the multiple 'outside' balconies and courtyards or whatever that could easily be cut. Split into multiple maps. Why do we have so many Badham maps and then this one gigantic monstrosity? Maps should be built to optimize the DBD experience, not to enslave everyone to a nostalgic look at another game.

Wish they would give more maps the Badham Preschool treatment.

Then explain why games such as Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes, and Red Dead 2 do not run as bad as DBD on PS4.

Thank you. Plenty of other AAA games run perfectly fine on PS4 and XB1. @MegaDwight even claims that the performance on console is perfectly fine on DBD when nearly every other console player is claiming otherwise.

Cmon now... you gotta be smarter than that.

  • Happens ALL THE TIME. I'm considering not even playing anymore until these framerate issues are fixed. I feel like I wasted my money on the Resident Evil chapter because I can't even enjoy it due to the performance.

Technology evolves and you cant expect the devs to stop making new and better content because it might cause a stutter on some old hardware.

The result of your issue is “upgrade” and no amount of argument is going to change that.

There is no reason why DBD shouldn't run well on console when plenty of other larger, more graphically demanding games run perfectly on console.

It is called poor optimization. And for all your "upgrade" comments, consider that the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are still very difficult to find and purchase for retail price.

  • Doctor without a doubt. All they do is shock all game and make a bunch of noise. It's annoying!

Plus tons of Docs apparently love to tunnel.

  • @MegaDwight said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2340461#Comment_2340461

You dont mention the servers at all, because they are fine. You are playing on outdated hardware. Software evolves, and if you arent willing to upgrade, you will feel the results.

    Try the PS5 version.

I never complained about the servers. I haven't had issues. I have issues with the game being poorly optimized.

Way more demanding games run great on PS4 and XB1. Games such as Battlefield 1 and V, Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2, Rainbow 6, COD, etc. All games are larger than DBD in terms of GB and also more graphically demanding. If those games can run smoothly on PS4 there is no reason why Dead by Daylight shouldn't.

Also, DBD used to run fine 98% of the time on console. Now I can't go more then a few seconds with the fps dropping to 0 (freezing) then going back up, essentially teleporting me mid game.

  • @Ruma said:

    As a PS5 player..:

    No they shouldnt of course.

Other games that are more demanding also run on the PS4, they just have to optimize it.

This game is optimized p i s s poor on PS4. The game literally has an FPS stutter every few seconds where it drops to 0 then goes back to normal. It's annoying during regular gameplay but also can completely mess you up during chases as survivor and killer, as well as on skillchecks.

The game is near unplayable on PS4. I don't know if Xbox players have the framerate issues.

  • @MegaDwight said:

Both the servers and the framerate are fine.

Personally, I find the “something else is to blame for my failures” crowd to be quite embarrassing.

You must not play in PS4. The game literally has an FPS stutter every few seconds where it drops to 0 then goes back to normal. It's annoying during regular gameplay but also can completely mess you up during chases as survivor and killer, as well as on skillchecks.

The original poster is correct. The game is near unplayable on PS4. I don't know if Xbox players have the framerate issues.

  • Happened to me today on PS4. Played 7 matches as survivor and 5 out of 7 camped. Probably a result of piss poor performance.

  • @Respawn said:

  • I agree. Performance issues have gotten worse and it has been weeks. Still can't even enjoy the RPD map. Yet, cosmetics keep coming through nonstop.

I have nothing against cosmetics but at this point it seems like cosmetics get pumped out faster and more frequently than bug and glitch fixes.

  • @GeneralV said:

    They don't...

Unless you are using a very old map offering, such as Fuming Cordage or Painted River Rock, which have a smaller chance of sending you to the desired map.

What offerings are those? Never heard of those.

  • Silent Hill Chapter for sure! I was never interested in Silent Hill before it but playing as Pyramid Head and Cheryl really got me interested in Silent Hill lore. Plus, Executioner is a great killer in the right hands (aka, mine 😈)

I think you're mistaking All Kill with Chains of Hate though. Chains of Hate was the first DLC of 2020.

  • @Firellius said:

I think it's difficult to create a compelling monster character, since it's hard to motivate them. Every killer has something that makes them a killer, ideally, but monsters are more like animals or forces of nature.

It might be possible, but it'd be way harder to pull off.

Random idea just popped in my head but what if we got the Xenomorph as a killer and we start off as a face hugger and have to cling to a survivor almost similar to Victor. From there we would injure the survivor, fall off, chase, latch on again, then down the survivor. From there we could start the gestation and hatch the Xenomorph.

The Xenomorph would offer many upgrades. However the face hugger would still be decent enough at the beginning to make getting that first down not too difficult.

This idea kinda reminds of Michael In a way. Tier 1 is face hugger, Tier 2 is going through the gestation animation, and Tier 3 is staying as the Xenomorph.

But how was that unfair? Sure you didn't know where he was, but he has a seven second long dream transition before he can actually hit you. Meaning you have plenty of time to run to a tile.

But you could not hide. Hiding is a key part of this game. Current Freddy is a great balance between maintaining the illusion of an actual dream state by not being able to see him from afar or only in little flashes. Then when he's close, it's much better to see him.

How would it feel if he was invisible all the way up till he hits you? So yeah, regardless of that 7 second transition time (which I totally forgot about tbh), being able to at least have a chance at locating where the killer is is fair.

Old Freddy was much weaker than New Freddy and although his power was more unique, it was also less involved than current Freddy.

Current Freddy is similar to old Freddy in a few ways too. Except he can hit you to put you into dream state without having to wait 7 seconds. Those 7 seconds were extremely unfair for old Freddy at times.

  • @QwQw said:

Never did I think I'd hear some call Old Freddy "unfair".

Current Freddy is boring as hell. It's fine if some people like him, but it's unfair to all of the Old Freddy mains that we were robbed of our killer.

I did not say Old Freddy was unfair. I said that not being able to see him unless you're in dream state is unfair. The way they have it done now with current Freddy is much better. We can only see him now when he's within range. Before though, you had no idea where you could hide because you could not see him. That was unfair. Not Old Freddy as a whole.
