Toothy offering isnt fix
Why this event has a unique event where the annviversery offering is VERY RARE. Just why? What is the motive for that? What is the problem with common rarity like the every other event? Still so poor amount in the bloodweb, even that fix. I never will understand that decision. This event supposed to be a celebration and is not.
Comments
They nuked it to about half its commonality from previous events. It's much better now than it was, but still at about 50% output from what I can tell.
I just read the announcement on X, so I logged in and spent almost 1.3M manually. The problem is STILL there!
its because the torte is still very rare. L bhvr. Switch it to common and increase the rate even more.
I swear they just don't listen. 10th anniversary is supposed to be a big celebration, instead it feels like a battle for something we've ALWAYS had and they can't even give us that. Let's hope they'll revert the rarity to common like literally every other event.
I just tried it and its fixed, but the cakes are still hard set at specific levels, they just increased the amount of levels that it comes in at. If you do 50 levels for a whole prestige, you will get 27 cakes every single time.
Yeah the "fix" just makes the whole situation feel worse, like they aren't even listening to the feedback in the first place and doing the bare minimum. I feel even less motivated than I did before the change to keep playing, especially with how the event is designed.
Proves they know what they did i guess and its not a bug they just added more levels to the code lol
it isn’t fixed because the torte is still very rare so bulk spending more often than not will just not get them. I’ve prestieged jason 4 times manually since this fix and i’ve recieved 66 tortes. That is only 10 more than I would have got an hour ago.
It's a fix but god is it a pathetic one. It's technically better but it really should be a flood and not a trickling stream of Cakes.
It's more like 20% for survivor and 25% for killer as compared to previous years
Seems BHVR is not only aware, but the lower amount of cakes is 100% intentional. All ire is earned.
EDIT: This is clipped from 2025 and was delivered to me, and by me, out of context. Heads up.
My theory is that they are Very Rare to make them appear in the P100 characters bloodweb more as they are more likely to get higher tier item in their bloodweb. So it being Very Rare just makes it more common on P100 bloodwebs and in the end there is like several guaranteed bloodweb levels that you can get a cake 100% of the time. I just used some bloodpoints to prestige one killer twice and it cave me about 60 cakes.
Why are they always touching stuff that are perfectly fine?
Likely. Which is a weird choice for an event for everyone.
If they're still hard set then it isn't fixed. An actual fix would be having them appear as they did for the 8th anniversary and earlier.
Its fixed in the sense that you get more is what i mean, but it just proves that the hard set number was intended by them.
funny thing is the player count on Steam reached the highest it’s ever been at 140,000 when Jason released, beating springtrap’s 130,000 just about. Then the anniversary release got a whopping 170,000 which is insane. It promptly dropped to 75,000 by the next morning, has been around 100,000 to 120,000 since. Not terrible numbers, but I wonder how many dedicated players are like me and holding off until they fix the event. I can’t earn any bloodpoints until they do, so what reason do I have to play? I tried a couple matches of the event, it’s kinda cool but pretty imbalanced and certainly confusing. And we only have it for 20 days total, so it’s not like anyone will get used to it before it’s gone. The small window of time plus the high rarity of anniversary cakes makes this actually the worst anniversary the game has seen in terms of motivation to play. Even with Springtrap being the only new character during last year’s anniversary, they were able to keep a very consistent player count, likely due to the enticing opportunity to stockpile items and offerings as well as level their characters. Just in two days we’re already seeing weird fluctuations in the game’s player count on PC during this event. If only BHVR didn’t mess with the offerings and make longtime dedicated players feel like their time was worth less this anniversary
Exactly this. I genuinely don't even want to play at this point, combined with the fact that it's not incentivising for me at all especially compared to previous years. I don't understand why they've chosen the 10th anniversary event, to be the worst out of all 10 of them. It's ridiculous that they are making us beg for this type of stuff. Being this stingy over in game currency only used for character progression (there are 95 characters to level up, an unimaginable chore for newcomers) is so shocking.
How low can you go, eh BHVR?
@Balrog
Sorry for the direct tag, but is BHVR aware that a lot of people are dissatisfied with the slight increase of the cakes?
There is radio silence again, even in the almost 180 comments discussion about cakes in this forum.
I mean, this is objectively still a lot less than the 9th year, which was less than the 8th year.
This is a comment from 2025; the 52minute tag is misleading since if you went to the dev page to get a recent screenshot of this quote, it would say "1 year ago". This does not undermine the current feedback or frustrations, I just wanted to clarify this specific screenshot is not accurate to this years communications.
I cannot respond to all feedback, I do not have enough time! I do not have any statements or communications at this time, as we have shared information and communications regarding the bloodweb as of last Friday. The continued dissatisfaction is noted however, and something I can take back to the team.
It should be looked into, because a scripted drop rate is not at all fun to deal with.
Previous years had random amounts of cakes that would show up in the bloodwebs. In some cases, up to 3-4 cakes could spawn in a single web. This is the desired level we'd expect from the biggest anniversary event.
Yes, please continue to share your thoughts here, this is crucial to the process and is really appreciated.
I do agree with @wesker_shades here.
I feel like current rate doesn't feel satisfying compared to previous years.
Especially if we only have 3 weeks to gather the cakes that we expect to last us whole year.
Also agreeing with above.
Least amount of cakes in the supposed biggest anniversary.
Good catch! I did not see that.
Easy to miss! Your feedback and frustrations are still heard.
Just sharing my thoughts here in terms of /why/ this feels so frustrating. Being able to make a stockpile of cakes to bring throughout the year makes us play MORE, rather than less.
If there is a patch or event that feels unbalanced (which is often), tensions get high, players get sweaty. Being able to bring a cake when things get like that is a way of saying "I might get tunneled out, or chain flashlight blinded and t-bagged, but I at least got some BP". Sometimes bringing cakes even signals to the other side that you aren't there to ruin their time, but to just try to get some points and play a game. It relieves tension.
When the cakes are scarce, players wont use them as often. And instead of playing more games when things get stressful, players will just shut the game down and find something else to do.
No need to reply, I just wanted to give you a why to take back to the team, at least something more than "players want more cakes".
I'm curious : What is the process in reference? I'm not asking to attack, but legitimately I'm becoming confused. We all (I hope) assume these changes all went through rounds of discussion and comparison before implementation, and I think the kinder side of the forums would assume play-testing happened. What is this process in question? It's not as though the event is PTB, this isn't a 'here's the rough draft let's polish it now' situation, as the event is already live and the lifespan is ticking by.
As to the cake, I'd point out that people are upset not just because of the cited bits of wanting to farm them and it bringing enjoyment, but also because BHVR has established an expectation. This is the bar that was set, and like in all business when one violates the standard set and falls below that expectation, one would expect to see a thermal incline begin as satisfaction drops off. Can this also be conveyed to the team?
I know the bar was set kind of low but hitting this far below average on a 10 year Anniversary is… well, yikes.
The feedback loop! Sorry for just calling it the "process" and not being more specific.
100% this. I saw a video from Scott where he conjectured that the reason for the cake reduction is to encourage people to play more outside of the anniversary event, and it had never occurred to me because it doesn't make any sense, or at least the idea falls apart under even light scrutiny.
I mean I am more likely to play when I feel my time is being maximized the extent that it can be. If I feel like I'm not going to be able to get even a decent amount of BP for my investment of time, I'm not going to play more in service of chasing a total number, I'm simply going to be less likely to play.
Of course, there's the notion that once a player has all the things they'll stop playing, so you want to make that process take as long as possible, and while that might be true in theory, in practice it just isn't going to happen because maxing out everything in this game would take more time than anyone has.
But giving people more BP so they don't feel as much like that pursuit is as hopeless as it is would be a much better approach to keep people engaged than making every match feel like even more of a drop in the proverbial bucket (like half a drop?).
Making the grind less efficient is a really myopic way of trying to keep people engaged. Having cakes to use makes people feel like their time spent in game is more worthwhile.
But to what end? What's the feedback needed for? Is it a surprise to BHVR that people are mad the cake acquiring is at an all time low for the 10th anniversary, of all times? Feedback loops have "action" as one of their elements. Is anything going to be done?
While that screenshot is a year old it actually highlights that players complained so much last year about the lack of cakes a year ago that BHVR responded. BHVR was completely aware of how important being able to load up on the cake offering was for players. BHVR had a year to take that feedback to make this year better, instead this year is worse for cakes. It makes no sense to not take the easy win in player morale of making the cakes easily accessible like they were in years past.
This is actually a very solid point. It does feel a lot like someone is failing an open-book test right now.
I'd imagine they weighed the feedback against playing habits and found that it effected nothing. Nor is it doing so this year, considering the player count. The winter event rewards were also worse last time. But people still played. So this trend will likely continue because there's no reason to incentivize an already active playerbase.
What is wrong with the amount of cakes? 27 per prestige level when it only takes about 8 games to prestige during the event you will have plenty of cakes. Not to mention you will be stacking the other 100% BP offerings.
You only get that many if you play killer. It's around 20 if you level survivor.
That's not what people's main complaint is though - it's that they have progressively gotten lower the last 2 years for no obvious reason other than "it's intended", when the drop rate for the first 5 years worth of anniversary cakes was similar and the game was doing fine.
They made an artificial currency, set the expectation of X, and each year seem intent to drive the actual delivery of [X-1/year]. It's frustrating for folks when the event itself is half-baked, balance is borked, and community toxicity is at an all time high. Whereas this time they said cake was bugged and then 'fixed', it's still lower than last year which was intentionally reduced and also saw extreme feedback.
EDIT: To be clear, my attempted point is just that there are actions and consequences. They knew these would be the reaction to their choice, and they chose it. There's nothing unexpected or cruel going on here. They made a choice and are receiving the exact community response they knew they would going to receive. This isn't surprising anyone, and anyone who claims otherwise is being either disingenuous, or grossly imcompetent.
The reason they don't want to give as many cakes is because they want players to slow down with progression. I personally don't see the big thrill in progression and i play because i like the game its self. I think players need to assess why they play this game. If they play to get p100 and thats it then why not play something other than DBD that has rewarding progression. If you don't play for prestige then you don't need cakes.
All this cake issue is doing is drawing attention away from other parts of the game that needs addressing and instead focusing on something that in the grand scheme of the game is insignifficant.
I could argue BHVR drew attention to it by lowering it in the first place when they could have listened to last years feedback so it wouldn't be something they needed to deal with now.
Regardless, it's clearly significant enough to enough people in this community, even if it's not something that bothers you, otherwise they wouldn't be talking about it. Your reason to play this game isn't more important than theirs.
But why slow down progression when it's a thing people enjoy doing and that, as you said, has no real rewarding effect on anything? Even if you have 50 p100s what does it hurt if you get #51?
Yeah, if they stand by this, it might be the most obstinate and out of touch thing they've done yet, and that's saying a lot
I mean in a vacuum it's not all that consequential, but it really speaks to how tuned in they are (or aren't) to the community and what motivates players to play long term
The issue is that I think progression is a huge part of why a lot of people play the game, at least consistently. But cause let's be fair, a lot of the time the game is kinda miserable and boring. There are definitely stretches of time where it's only thing that gets me to log in.
And that's not just DbD; a lot of people's motivation to game (or a great many things in life, tbh) comes down to chasing progression in its various forms.
I think they know exactly what they're doing. They are tuned in. They know this is a playerbase that whines and cries and moans while simultaneously punching in their credit card numbers. The two things they need are profit and engagement and they're getting lots of both right now. There's zero reason to act. I expect will have some final act of empty pandering like that 5mil, but I'd be shocked if anything significant was done. There's simply no reason to, unless things take a sharper downturn.
The problem is, as you said, the long term. How many of these new and returning players are going to stay? And how embittered will everyone else be when the dust settles?
Im not saying my reason to play is more important at all you have just read far to much into what i have said. End of the day the cake issue isn't a big deal for majority of the player base as everyone still continues to play the game despite complaining.
I think that the assumption that the mjority of the player base doesn't care about the cake/progression issue is a bold and probably erroneous one.
Yeah, they're tuned in all right, but I question whether they are able to interpret what they're seeing; like a toddler watching a physics TED Talk.
Like so many businesses nowadays, they can't see past the quarterly numbers. If their goal is long term engagement, this play is almost comically misguided, imo
The reason i come to that conclusion is if it truely bothered players that much why would they continue to play. Player count for steam is still over 100k which is massive. Would have thought if majority was that annoyed about this cake issue that the player count would be much lower.
The main issue here is that we give you the same feedback every year: Last year, we told you that making the cake purple is not good and it should stay brown for a better grind. We've been also telling you for years that event offering for other events (Blood Moon or Mistle toe) should work like Bloody Party Streams - increasing it for all and not only for you.
It's just gets a bit annoying that we sound like a broken record every year since you ignore the feedback.
This!
I believe people in BHVR need few wins as a gaming company right now.
Making people angry because of cake doesn't help you at all - especially with arguable recent releases, recent loses, recent community situation (people aren't satisfied with balancing, killers, survivior tactics, perks and everything overall).
We are hopeful that we get a bugfix today with balancing changes and fixed cake rate.
Losing pressure as a killer if 4 people get immidiately health state doesnt feel good.
Losing to a poison as a survivor doesn't feel good at all - poisons are too strong.
I hope I will be back with positive feedback in an hour or two.
