the problem is the crappy teammates I'm getting. I've been left on hook to reach second stage multiple times already, and sometimes they'll just leave me to die. I literally had everyone leave me to die on hook, one guy was destroying my plaything totem, one guy was running circles, and another guy was self caring. How am I getting these teammates? I'm not trying to humble brag, but I loop killers for minutes on end, so how am I being matched up with these people???
Did you play a long time ago when there were ranks (not grades)? When you went down a color and the end of the month. Did you have better teammates then? Just curious.
personally I enjoyed the ranks and had good teammates.
-
More like why are your teammates picking that perk? Is your mmr really that low? That you are being placed with potatoes that would use that? Oh yeah mmr is garbage. Ever since the end of ranks survs have begin really selfish and that’s a selfish perk. Blame the matchmaking not the perks or play styles

If BHVR was struggling to make a good matchmaking system from the ground up and we were just suffering through the process, this would be all well and good.
But that's not the case.
The Emblem system and having players matchmaking within their own rank color was such a far more enjoyable experience than what we have now. At least we knew what our rank was back then, matches were much more consistent, and survivor team composition for SoloQs was actually pretty good.
If they kept improving the Emblem system we'd be in such a better spot today, in my opinion.
They took a good system and replaced it with a worse system and still have yet to get it to work even close to on par with the old Emblem system. SoloQ is in the worst place it's ever been because this SBMM system does an extremely poor job at team composition. As a SoloQ going into a game today I have absolutely no idea if I will be paired with survivors who can loop and get stuff done or scared little baby Neas urban evading in corners of the map. There is no consistency as far as I can tell.
Yeah I always played solo and met friends doing so. I felt I was playing with people near my skill. But I would still mostly play by myself.. I really enjoy the peace. Now all I get are potatoes. So the only time I play is with a swf. So I’ve almost completely stopped playing. People don’t really talk about ranks.. they bring up the grades. Idk the emblem rank system should be brought back and improved. But I think most really enjoy the swf I just want my solo experience back but I don’t think they ever will go back. Sure you can argue that ranks didn’t completely show your skill but I was almost always a rank one and my teammates were pretty great and the killers too. I was challenged. Now it’s not the killers as much as it is the survivors screwing me over.

depip is pointless if grades are time play good for you that you can get to red rank so fast some of us are not so lucky like me who played both role more then 4 days but still in silver on killer and just got to gold on survivor because the matchmaking sucks.
and fact a lot of killers I main suck
Agreed. It means nothing but time played make it zero or one pip and remove depip. Or go back to emblem grade system
-
It should go back to the old emblem(rank) system not grades. You don’t need to play consistently well to go up in grades that’s why bad players get to the iri grades. You only have to play good, have luck, or farm a few games and play a lot to go up in grades. You hit check points to where you won’t go down. That’s the problem. It makes average player get up to the “high” ranks. We need to go back to the old system where you had to play really well all of the time to maintain your rank.
-
Matchmaking should be based on RANKS not grades
-
@Piruluk said:
So basically you want the old red rank, I remember that I got potatoes as teammates even at red rank. Unless they making really hard to reach ranks and maintain, there is no point in graded matchmaking.
But of course killer mains would love that 100+ game in row with 4k
Would love to go back to old ranks but make it way harder to get to iri

I used to get good teammates frequently to a point where I memories all of their names. With this terrible matchmaking I am getting random people that cant even run a basic M1 killer for 30 seconds... its ######### stupid.
That was me with rank emblem system. I always saw the same awesome players and after a few games and playing well with each other we would become friends. Now I’m making garbage friends and getting drunk and not trying because they suck and I no longer care
-
Rank (emblem system)was better imo. Less dcs, less camping tunneling, less camping, less slugging, less selfish survivors, less sandbagging,& less hiding all freaking match. Matches were more interesting and fun.
If you got up to the high ranks you had good teammates that actually cared about playing well. Now no one cares and the equals trash matches with garbage players.

The old system didn’t prevent someone from getting matched with dumb teammates in soloq.. and it’s very unlikely they will ditch the new system and change everything regarding grades and ranks back to what it was.
though they have talked about giving soloq something to bring them a little closer to swf level, which should help in more coordinated playstyle.. hopefully we see something soon (like… anniversary chapter-soon)
I had really good teammates on the old emblem system. Everyone seemed to know the assignment. I was rank one and got real rank one teammates. Sure if I played at a weird time I might get some weaker players but ehhh
now it’s consistently bad
-
It’s brutal for solo survivor too. In a squad of friends it’s ggez to the killer but as a solo I’m with trash teammates who are selfish and scared. No middle ground. I loved playing solo and having a challenge but these games are impossible with my teammates making the dumbest decisions
-
Freaking solo survivor is impossible. Played three games yesterday for the first time in a solid month and got the dumbest players. Please go back to old system
-

I just keep hoping I’ll hear one day they have returned to the emblem system. I know I’m not the only one… almost all of my friends were from dbd and now they are hardly playing dbd or have completely stopped.

@Veinslay said:
Just stop spending money on the game. I don't want to quit entirely because of sunk cost fallacy and I've almost got every killer to p3 l50 all perks, but I at least stopped spending any money on the game. Admittedly, I've spent hundreds on killer cosmetics in the past. I haven't bought anything since boons became a thing and they destroyed Deathslinger. People paid money for that killer and they made him complete crap. Not only terrible but unfun. The Ring killer will be the first licensed characters I will not buy. Hitting them in the wallet is the only way to get them to consider changing. As long as people keep handing them cash hand over fist, they have no incentive to change
Yes I love this game but with sh*tty mmr and all the nerfs to killers and the dumb useless perks piling up
they pump out new killers, survivors, and cosmetics to spend money on but ignore creating new maps, new game mechanics, game qol fixes, perk tweaks because everything is about money.
so stop spending money!
-
I agree I play a lot less and people I played with play a lot less
to me I think it was the loss of ranks and the new grade system. No longer do I have the drive to get and stay at rank one. Now with grades everyone can achieve grade one.
what’s the goal? What are we striving for? Your right… it’s a party game to pick up for a few… no longer the hours of grinding
-
Actually this is a good point. Maybe if your character (killer or survivor) doesn’t move for x amount of time it equals a disconnect.
it is also really annoying to go against an afk killer
-
does surviving a match necessarily mean your skilled? No
i can hide or get lucky
or play really selfish
-
I have to say whenever I’m against a terrible killer who can’t get a single down and is just absolutely on the struggle bus… noed. And they end up with at least one kill if not a 4K. So whenever a killer is sucking I run around and do totems… but if your not in a swf with communication it’s hard. In a swf you can tell your team to slow down and count totems… that you smell noed. If it’s a good killer they hardly ever have noed. It really does reward terrible players but it’s also our fault for not cleansing 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
-
They need to be like hex’s where you snuff once and done. Or maybe even twice since you actually have to find and bless unlike a hex that is already lit. But being able to bless unlimited totems is broken as hell. Anyone who has played killer will know how incredibly broken the boons are… but you best believe I’m running them as a survivor until they’re nerfed
-
Mmr is based on escapes and kills
what I’ve noticed is camping has increased. That whole argument to just do gens and punish the camper is not a thing unless your a swf on coms otherwise the randoms have already wasted too much time figuring out that your being camped and that killer is going to get a 3 or 4 k
bad matchmaking. I get players who crouch walk, locker hide, dc, hook suicide, refuse to heal you, leave you on first hook, can’t loop and go down instantly. I am almost always the best player on the team and when I finally get caught I’m left on the first hook to die. Those other ######### teammates escape with a higher mmr and mine is lowered
im seeing more camping, way less altruism and other survivors that are no where near my skill
-
Mmr
idk I used to have a ton of fun solo surviving … now that’s exactly what I see too. So now I only play if a few friends are on… which sucks because I love playing solo but not with people who are going to dc, hook suicide, crouch walk the maps corners, hide in lockers… I have no clue what’s happening… I hate that mmr is escapes and kills.. even if we could see our mmr it wouldn’t even matter since it doesn’t even represent skill in this type of game. Old emblem system did a better job and I had wayy better matches
-
I think what you found is totally correct. I always found it frustrating when I would read those post from people saying to just do gens. Yes if your in a swf group on coms I can tell them that I’m being camped and just do gens or if I happen to have kindred… otherwise we’re a bunch of randoms who have no clue what’s going on and waste a ton of time to figure out that the person is being camped.
mmr has definitely made this worse since before with the emblem system a camping killer wouldn’t pip.. so as a high rank survivor you wouldn’t see this as often.. unless they were r1 and just maintaining their rank. Now with sbmm which is based on kills and escapes a camper is no longer punished… their mmr will go up because the system doesn’t care about how many hooks, chases, interruptions to survs objectives etc… it only cares about kills.
solution =get ride of mmr

No amount of buffs will solve the survivor issue. It isn't that you are weak. The issue is people don't play this game as a team game and there is no incentive to play it as a team game. You can still "win" by being completely selfish which is going to be the fastest way to kill teamwork.
The bad thing is that it is a habit people pickup early in their time with the game and never unlearn it. That is why I look at playing survivor as 1v3v1. Me versus the other survivors versus the killer.
The incentive was the old emblem system. You could pip up in rank even if you died. You HAD to be altruistic to pip… you had to do x amount of gens, heals, saves, chases. Now it’s survive… whether that be from hiding in a locker most of the game… not risking your life to save a teammate. The answer to all of this is go back to old ranks…

This looks like all of my recent games. I stopped playing DBD as much because I don't know anyone else who plays so it's Solo or nothing. But since I stopped playing regularly ( I play maybe one evening a week now), I think my MMR has dropped so my team mates are absolute potatoes, and every Killer camps and tunnels from the first hook. Since MMR is based on escapes (2 years to develop such an idiotic way to judge skill), I barely ever escape and I'm trapped in MMR hell.
So I'm inclined to play even less. I feel like the devs only care about SWF, and luring in new players by constantly adding content.
Anyways, the old Rank system was far superior. I was in red rank, and usually got competent team mates. Killers at red ranks camped a hell of a lot less. This Grade system sucks.
Totally agree. Old emblem system took into account much more than just kills and escapes which does not represent skill in this type of game
-
My theory is it’s survs combined mmr to sorta match the killer. So I’ve been placed with pretty bad teammates because I’m good. And my friend and I have been placed with complete newbie potatoes because were both good. At least that match our killer noticed and let us escape. I basically only play when a few friends are on because something is up with solo … I used to get awesome teammates with old emblem system… I used to love playing solo… now I have to swf
-
Kills and escapes do not measure skill in this type of game.
at least the old emblem system was more complex
-
No
mmr is based on kills and escapes. So that does not measure skill. You can creep around the map and wait for your team to do all the work and escape and your mmr increases. You can loop the killer and do a few gens but finally get caught and one hooked so you die and your mmr goes down. Obviously the second person is more skilled. The mmr system is not a good way to measure skill. Same with a killer. One could camp each first hook and get 4K so the game thinks they’re more skilled than the killer who got multiple hooks but say maybe only one kill. Also the “grade” is like the old emblem system except you can’t depip… so basically your guaranteed to get to the high grades or reds if you just play enough. So we used to have the old emblem system that determined our matchmaking but now they turned that into grades which now are just an end season bloodpoint reward system and our mmr is hidden.
all these players thinking they’re red ranks. I would like to see the old system come back and see these same players try to get back to the red ranks 🙄 its grades. It’s a participation award.
the mmr just 💩s on you the next match if you win.. next match easy.
with the old system I felt my teammates were really close to my skill. And I felt the killers were really good. Now I feel like they’re mixing the new with the experienced players… I haven’t seen people blowing up gens and urban evading since I first started and now I see them every session

Ive been saying this! Right now SBMM is making solo survivor games misery!
I get the same thing in solo survivor. Its 10 straight matches in a row of unfun losses. Either the killer is above my skillset or my teammates are below mine.
I could ve wrong but it could be a flaw in the mmr.
Survivor lobbies are averaged to find a killer with the same mmr as the average of the survivor group.
This means you can have 3 low mmr players with one high mmr player and end up going against a killer with an mmr closer to the mmr of the highest mmr survivor.
I could be wrong tho idk either way solo q is awful
Yeah I actually think it could be something like that… I feel like if I win my teammates get worse and worse.. I’ve actually had a few games where the killer has let me live since I seriously carried the entire game. They were brand new … had to be.
-
To me it seems that if I win (escape) I get matched with 1-2 new players and a pretty good killer… escape (win) again I get a crazy good killer and all new players and totally get ######### on… so then I die and the cycle repeats.
sbmmr is not even what this system should be called. Even if it did work the win and loss is on escapes and kills. That does not measure skill. They really should just bring back the old rank system with the emblems and maybe add a lil extra to it… like some Gen points if you ran the killer all game or Extra if you escape or kill… idk I love this game and am sad at the state that it is in. The queue times at night are insanely long now. I thinking it’s because less people playing killer… also the new mmr makes players really selfish… I used to love playing solo but I can’t anymore
-
Please devs just copy his patch
and fix the mmr
needs to be more advanced then just escapes and kills
-
Yeah I want old rank system back. It encouraged interesting and altruistic gameplay. This mmr which is just escape( even if you did jack sh!t all game and just got lucky) and kills( even if you camped/tunneled) the game increases your hidden mmr. Grades which everyone thinks is your rank means nothing just amount played since you can’t go a grade down.
I used to like getting back to that r 1 and trying to maintain it.
-

Both wrong. The peak for balance as well as player count were this year at the anniversary/ at re chapter release.
From then on killer got some hefty blow and survivor hit validation on two overall interactions. Which indicate a negative trend in the killer survivor strength department.
And the player count is steadily decreasing since then due to several reason for example the NFT and security problems or balance issues with boons, hv and the resent killer nerfs, making those killer less fun to play.
Yeah I was wanting to see the trend as-well because I used to play this game hours upon hours a week and now I’ve played it maybe a few hours the last few months. Also I’ve noticed all the people on my friends list are playing other games too. And I didn’t move onto something new and exciting I went on to try sot and totally fell in love with it. Hate the new mmr system that’s what turned me off.
hoping it’s going down and the devs do something. Better mmr system. Better balance between killer/survivors
-
Yeah the hanging out at the open doors is annoying… not sure what a solution would be. .. that’s why we have the end game collapse…I think that the door progress should go down with time… so they can’t 99 it and then just do f All prancing around till the see you and get in a chase just to come and tap a door and open it having just enough time to twerk a bit before leaving.
-
I think everyone knows that the game is killer sided. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t play killer and therefore should have no business in stating an opinion on the subject. or they’re trolling
They need to encourage more players to play killer somehow.. like maybe an entire page of a rift that has to be done by playing killer. Killer sucks. Playing survivor I can relax and hold down a button and do a few skill checks while doing a Gen. killer you are constantly at work and then the rage when players tbag, flashlight click, and dm you that your garbage. I hardly ever got any hate mail as survivor… might be because I suck at killer and I’m pretty good at surv but even if I destroyed a team I would get hate mail… hardly ever as survivor
what people forget is we need killers to have a game. Keep bugging survs and nerfing killers your not going to have a game anymore. Booms and that f up “sbmmr” which is hardly anything to do with skill and just escapes and kills .. this game is turning to s
and I’m sad because I absolutely loved this game…so here I am b!tchin in a dbd forum

@pseudechis said:
I'd say its more that they further removed the skill element of match making.
Previous rank system required contribution to pip up or down. It was wonky and if you spent enough time online you would eventually rank up. So it was based on contribution + time spent online.
New MM is did you die? yes/no, did you kill anyone? yes/no. Contribution is irrelevent.
Somehow the latter is meant to be more representative of "skill" but it doesn't take into account contribution at all so you can rank up even when you don't contribute if your team smashes out gens and you get out.
Somehow the new "skill based" match making relies on less metrics related to skill than the previous "non skill based" matchmaking.
Did they just go to the zoo and pay a bunch of chimps some bannanas to cook this one up because I'm really preplexed by it???
Shouldn't a combination of contribution + escape yes/no dictate match making? Pips from contribution dictate how many points you move then escape yes/no dictate + or - direction. If you die but played an amazing game your derank is less than or equivalent to the increase of a poor game where you got out by luck and didn't do much.
Totally agree. I have teammates I can see hiding and creeping around the edges with bond. I have teammates that Pre throw every pallet. Or that run and the first sight/sound of the killer even if it’s a super important Gen to finish and he has pop or something 🤦🏻♀️Or he’s tunnel visioned on someone else. These are players I would report for trolling they’re so bad. .. if they showed up in my game with the old emblem system. But I guess you escape if you hide the entire game. 🤷🏻♀️ The only time I play is if I see some friends to swf with. I’m not the best player by far but I’m pretty good and I get s. For teammates. No one goes for saves everyone is really selfish
emblem = interesting altruistic gameplar
mmr= did you escape? Even if you didn’t do as much as the other player who carried you and died first hook
-
I haven’t played killer in a really long time… and highest I ever got on old ranking system was 8 sooo I can’t really give an opinion on killer with new “mmr” I hate the new mmr solo.. I can handle it playing with some of my og dbd friends. Mmr encourages selfish game play.. whereas the emblem system rewarded interesting and altruistic gameplay. So yeah I’m left on the hook or sandbagged. Used to play this game a ton.. took a break for a few months and now play a few games once in a blue moon if I see enough friends on playing it
-
Those are “grades” they have nothing to do with skill. They’re disguised to look like the old emblem system but really only show how much someone has played in the new reset. Mmr is hidden and also has nothing to do with skill since it is based on whether you survive or kill. You could urban evade and do nothing and escape from the hard work of your team and the game says Yayy you win and your mmr will increase

A total judgment without even playing with said person.
with that belief and this mmr system, it is time to find a new game to play with my friends as dead by daylight has lost all fun for me and my friends

I'm not a fan. I'm not being matched with players of equal skill. My swf teammate and I are getting matched with players that previously would've been low rank because they play poorly - either by bad decisions or just hiding most of the match.
SBMM encourages game play that the emblem system punished. Camping at 5 gens and hiding for the match in old system were punished. While you could come across those play styles in higher ranks it was less likely because it would cause you to lose pips. SBMM instead rewards those playstyles while punishing those that don't play that way.
Can even tell by the scores at the end that it is not good match making - previously would've said matchmaking is broken because while emblem system wasn't perfect it still encouraged better gameplay to reach certain ranks and your scores would be fairly even if someone didn't quit/get tunneled. Now you're just matched with either people that recently died or recently escaped depending on your last match so the players that actually try are being matched with those that hide causing these noticeable differences in BP. Killer will get a 4k - teammate and I will have 15k+ BP while our teammates that were not tunneled/camped out will have less than 10k BP or even 5k/less because they weren't doing anything aside from hiding, losing chases, or leading the killer to others. There are times where we died but teammates escaped and it's same thing - we have 15k+ BP but the teammates that escaped had less than 10k.
We run into way more survivors working with the killer. Killer works with them to kill the team and let's them escape so they both increase in MMR. Fun match for those two but unfun match for rest.
Dying we get stuck in deathloop until either get decent teammates or killer that's trying to drop mmr. With the old emblem system if I died multiple matches in a row it didn't feel bad if I had good teammates. The only times it felt bad was when matchmaking gave me teammates it shouldn't have (like it feels now), I had teammates working with killer, or we had a killer that just tunneled me out. The 50/50 escapes/deaths aren't feeling good. My deaths don't feel deserved when I see the end game BP that justifies my thoughts that my teammates were useless. Escaping doesn't feel good when I've been stuck in a deathloop and the killer I get matched with isn't good. I'd rather a good team and good killer, not this crappy mishmash we have now.
Ultimately it's made this game WAY less fun. My swf teammate and I will play maybe 3-5 matches and then switch over to For Honor (thanks dbd crossover for introducing us) - we end up only playing DBD a couple times a week because it's just miserable experience with SBMM. We play hoping maybe it'll be better but it's not. I miss the old emblem/rank system.
Couldn’t agree more. I think people don’t really understand how the sbmms works. It’s literally escapes and kills. I have been playing this game forever and reached rank one fast every reset on old emblem system. I know the game well and now I’m being matched with people hiding in the corners of the map and literally urban evading every where. They run away when they hear chase music instead of finishing a really important or close to done Gen not realizing that the killers tunnel vision chasing someone else. These have got to be new players or just really crappy teammates. But if they escape off the hard work of their teammates the system rewards them. Old rmblem system was better. Rewarded good gameplay/ interesting game play. Same for killers tunneling and camping is now rewarded whereas before you were punished

What?
I'm...not sure if you understand how MMR works.
It's actually better for solos than ranks were.
Now, if you struggle as a random, it'll match you (when it's working correctly - again, my theory is that BHVR disable it sometimes for whatever reason) with proportionally weaker killers.
The only reason it benefits SWFs is because it's much easier to smurf down your MMR as a coordinated group, then stomp weaker killer players.
Mmr is escaping/ kills
so it does not accurately gauge your skill. I used to quickly get to rank one solo as survivor every rank reset with old emblem system. Now I’m being placed with people creeping around the map with spine chill and urban evasion. I started using bond to watch them. They run away at the first bit of chase music not realizing that they’re chasing someone else and they need to finish the Gen that’s almost done. Mmr does not work. If they creep around not contributing and escape because their team did all the work their mmr increases. That’s all it cares about. Escapes. So now as an experienced player I’m being placed with dumb players that I would think were trolling if it was happening before mmr was implemented. Same goes for killers. Tunnel and/or camp and be rewarded with an increased mmr with your kill.
-
Mmr is kill or escape. So camp and tunnel is a win. Creep around and wait for everyone else to do the work and escape is a win and your mmr increases. The old emblem system was wayyy better.
