I mean, insofar as some of the language will make it clear when Legion's vault doesn't activate perks, yes, but that's a language change.

As for the second part, that makes a bit more sense. I'm still not sure I agree, I'm learning for the first time here that apparently people use Spirit Fury on killers that already have a pallet break for some reason but I've always been of the opinion it helps M1 killers that have to swing through pallets and don't have an alternate way of dealing with it much more.

Even if it's actually changing I struggle to think of special-break killers that really want to use Spirit Fury. You cite Bubba but he's really good at dealing with pallets, he really doesn't need it.

I agree. It's not that much of a big deal to Killers who already have a way to quickly get rid of pallets. It's always been a fun meme perk on these Killers and only really effective against SoloQ or a SWF that isn't on comms anyway. I'm not going to pretend we've suddenly lost some incredibly powerful perk / power synergy when it's kinda superfluous if used on Killers that can already deal with pallets.

  • This is yet another head scratcher of a change for the game to me. Not sure what the reasoning is behind this except to simplify Killer interactions and to avoid introducing or allowing for exceptions to those interactions. This consistency isn't necessarily a bad thing for game health in the long term, but it does make this particular perk less fun to play with.

Even as a Legion main, I've never actually used the classic enfury combination all that much. I do run Enduring in my build, but I tend to eat the stun and either play / go around the pallet (if it's a crap one) or vault to break it with the button if it's a pallet I want to get rid of. I can see why many Legions would be disappointed because it kills a fun combo, but I don't personally think this is the huge nerf to Legion that a lot of others have been saying. Especially since their recent buffs make using their frenzy vault as anti loop somewhat viable now.

Let's be honest, getting hit with the enfury combo can feel cheap and be pretty annoying sometimes.

So basically the devs made it consistent in opacity. Outside the fog bubble you can't see anything inside but if your inside the Fog you can see decently well.

They basically made fog vials a pre runners dream if you know the killers coming your direction pop fog and pre run but there pretty much useless in chase.

Exactly this. If the Killer is already on top of you, there will be no point popping your vial because you'll still be easy to spot. But it could be useful against ranged Killers like Huntress and high mobility Killers returning to the hook to tunnel. You could pop a vial in such a situation and maybe give the unhooked Survivor a chance to reach safety or at least gain some distance, since the Killer won't know what direction they've run from outside the bubble.

They still seem to be pretty weak to me and a lot less fun than their original iteration, but at least I can see a purpose for the vials now and the fog effect (hopefully) has a consistent effect across all maps. I doubt too many Survivors will be trading in their toolboxes and medic kits for these but they could be a somewhat useful item to find in a chest, at least.

  • Wow… Trickster's realm is absolutely stunning and I can't wait to play on it. It has so many neat little touches and details.

All my neon Legion/Trapper/Trickster skins are going to go so hard on the new map, too!

  • I think certain characters are just easier to design cosmetics for. That's at least part of the reason why some get more fits than others. Feng has the whole UwU gamer girl thing going on, Kate's a classic American sweetheart, Nea, Mikaela and Sable are all different flavours of alternative. Ace is a sketchy lounge lizard kind of a guy and probably a lot of fun to design outfits for.

It must be a lot easier to come up with fits for these popular characters when compared to Felix, Jane or Jonah because these characters don't really have a distinctive or interesting style to theme their cosmetics around. Then you have poor Taurie, who would probably have more mains if only Nea didn't already exist in the game.

Meg is an interesting case because she tends not to get as many outfits as you might expect, despite being quite popular anyway. Meg has a lot of skins because she's free and she's been in the game since forever. If cosmetics were the main reason for picking a main, I would not be a Meg main. I like only a handful of her cosmetics and I'm usually left trying my best to put together a look that isn't 100% sporty looking. Her sporty aesthetic is probably not all that interesting to the shut-ins who play this game and haven't touched the grass of a playing field since leaving high school.

Gabe is another character that suffers from a similar problem with all his sci-fi themed gear. It just a weird niche that probably doesn't have much wide appeal (I'd love to see more casual fits for him). He's like the anti-Vittorio, who seems to get anything but period specific middle ages clothing to wear.

I'd honestly struggle to come up with ideas for the less popular Survivors.

  • DBD does have some excellent sound design. There are way too many things to mention but I some of my favourites include the way Trickster and Clown chuckle to themselves, Meg Thomas falling from a height (I like all her voice acting, tbh) and The Huntress when she gets extra angry after a stun (I'm sure you know the specific sound that I mean).

There are some goofy sounds that I enjoy too, like Myers getting stunned (please never change this). And Steve's old scream, of course (R.I.P).

I hope they don't revisit any more older characters to give them new VAs. I think if something has been in the game for a very long time and it doesn't affect the game play, it should really be left alone. I think Joey and Susie should have their own voice actors, instead of sharing Frank and Julie's. Just to make them feel more like characters in their own right and less like cosmetic options. Hunk should get his own SFX too, since the angry teenager sounds don't suit him well.

  • I just want Legion back. It's been too long already.

Other than that, some more new classes. And maybe we could have the cages move again after a little while if nobody comes to save you, so I don't have to watch yet another oblivious Claudette work on a gen 20 meters away as I go to second stage. I'd rather take my chances than experience that again.

  • A Blade Runner-esque city block bathed in neon would instantly become one of my favourite maps (it would be up there with Toba Landing). Honestly really hyped for this.

I recall The Ghoul trailer had Kaneki chasing Dwight down a Tokyo alleyway. I wonder if that was a hint at what the new map might look like.

Thing with Legion in 2v8 is that an actual duo between a Legion and an Oni or Nurse or something melts lobbies. I used to run Legion + Nurse duos with my brother frequently and it was disgusting. However on the flip side, getting paired with a Legion while playing Trapper or Ghost Face or something? Uuuuuuuuuuugh.

Legion in 2v8 was almost always either dead weight or breaking the trial depending on the pairing. Legion was absolutely EVERYWHERE, and it made some other killers miserable to play sometimes due to the likelihood of getting dropped with Legion. Also miserable for the survivors if the Legion got paired with a different killer like Oni.

I think pretty much any duo with at least one top tier Killer will melt the lobby if they are half way decent. If I play 2V8 past 8 PM when all the KWFs are out in force, the Survivor experience is a pretty rough one.

It's true that when I did get matched with another support Killer as Legion, we did struggle quite a bit (Legion were balanced out in the mode by having no lethality of their own to bring to a Trial). But then I don't particularly care if I win or lose in 2V8. It's not a mode that anyone should take seriously at all, imo.

I wouldn't be opposed to certain pairing being forbidden, at least for Killers that duo queue. I'm a solo queue gamer and I never got paired with an Oni once, so it's possible that's happening on some level already. I'm willing to bet most complaints about the Legion + Oni pairings were actually more about the unfairness of having to face a KWF than with the pairing itself. But BHVR don't see a problem with SWFs knocking the game's balance out of whack in 1V4, so they're not going to care about it now that it happens on the Killer side too.

  • 2v8teamkill.png

It was never about Legion's strength or unsuitability for 2V8. Of course I don't have access to BHVR's stats for the mode, but from my own (admittedly anecdotal) evidence, I can see that they actually under perform compared with other Killers.

No, Legion were never strong. Their popularity imbalance between the players on the Killer side who enjoy them and their unpopularity with a large number of vocal haters meant they were always likely to get more complaints than pretty much any other Killer. So people complained and they were removed. It's as simple as that and nothing much at all to do with balance. And it's nothing to do with Legion pushing Survivors away from 2V8 either, since Killer queue times are still exactly as long as they've always been.

I get it, they were a common pick. So I do sympathise with the people who were sick of seeing them in every other trial. I face a rotation of Weskers, Huntresses and Nemis and I'm fairly sick of seeing these guys, too. But there really isn't a lot of choice right now and very few Killers in 2V8 have both a relatively simple power and a low skill floor. 2V8 was a good place for players to dip their toe into the Killer side of things without the extra stress and pressure of having to go it alone. I bet a lot of 2V8 Legions were inexperienced Killers. But now these players have only Trapper or Wraith to choose from, since pretty much every other Killer in 2V8 takes considerable time to master (basically a throw pick for beginners) or costs real money (Ghostie).

I don't see how taking away choices from 2V8 is a healthy direction to be going in but here we are.

  • According to the stats, I spend 90% of my time playing as Scout. It just suits my stealthy play style the most, I guess.

The aura reveal wall hacks help a little with looping, as does the faster crouch walking speed against a Huntress. I like revealing the Killer's auras for my teammates while they're in chase, although it's sometimes difficult to tell if I'm actually doing that (I've been asking for a small BP reward for this as feedback for several iterations now). It can also be fun to rebuild and reset pallets, especially if they later come in clutch for a teammate.

But I have a feeling a lot of my fellow Scouts have moved over to the beamer class. But I won't be joining them, since I'm useless with a beamer and pretty much only use one to blind Killers at pallets. I think having more stealth Killers in the mode and a stealth class has weakened the Scout in more recent iterations, too.

The only downside for me is that sometimes other Survivors won't heal you because with the Iron Will effect, they don't realise you're injured!

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/464087/why-so-few-killers-for-2v8

why would it have anything to do with licensing? If a killer is already playable in the main game then there's nothing about the licensing agreements that say anything like "oh but you can only use this character for regular 1v4 but not a model that doubles the amount of killers and survivors." Doesn't make any sense.

That logic is also already flawed by the fact we can use every single licensed survivor in 2v8, so why would it be any different for killers ulle?

Well, I imagine if there is a Predator chapter in the works then Disney will probably want the Xeno and Predator to be added to 2V8 at the same time to maximise their potential profits. Same logic applies to the two Stranger Things Killers. Then there might be a reason an IP holder wouldn't want their character in 2V8 because it wouldn't be a good fit or might "dilute the brand" in their eyes. I think that kind of thinking could keep Myers out of 2V8, since he's known to be a character who's more of a lone wolf that stalks his prey alone. We might think that Myers in DBD wouldn't take away sales from his upcoming game but he was likely removed anyway for similar reasons.

Chucky and Ghostie on the other hand might be easier to add because they have established partners in lore (I know DBD's Ghostie is his own thing and unrelated to the films, but you get what I mean). None of this stuff matters at all to us but it is the way IP holders think sometimes.

I bet video game companies are a lot more relaxed and easier to work with than companies from other types of media because they understand the culture better and collaborations tend to be a lot more common. This is probably why the Capcom and Konami Killers were among the first to be added.

  • He probably is a little too overpowered in the sense that he is pretty much never out of his power. It hardly seems to matter who he matches up with, just having another teammate feeds him enough blood orbs to keep 3 or more Survivors on the ground or in a cage at any given time.

But as I've said before, I don't think it really matters if things are OP in 2V8. I guess it all depends on how you view the mode. I see it as a playground / sandbox where we all get to mess about with things that would never, ever make it into 1V4. Giving both sides broken mechanics to play with is one way to achieve a kind of "fairness". I'd hate for 2V8 to become mired in the same tedious balance discussions that eventually gets all the fun stuff removed from 1V4. Just let it be its own silly little cartoon mode where anything goes.

At least that's what I believed before the complaints got Legion removed, despite not being very strong compared to most of the other Killers. Now I think I'd just shrug if Oni got nerfed or removed from the next iteration, if that's what everyone really wanted.

  • I've had completely the opposite experience. In truth, I usually do pretty well with my Killer games (not that I get to play that many). But of the 3 Chucky games I've played so far, we killed the majority of Survivors for a team Kill rate of 66.67%. The exception being one game which was a miserable rubber-banding disaster so I'm not sure I'd really count that.

My Survival rate on the other hand has totally fallen off, with only 4 escapes in 16 games. It's weird how different people's experiences can be playing the same game.

  • I don't know why but my ping on the Survivor side is mostly fine, yet whenever I play a Killer game it's spotty at best. Sometimes it will be totally fine but then suddenly I'll be at 500ms ping and everyone is teleporting around the map.

The frustration is just the same for Killers as it is for Survivors and it makes me want to avoid playing Killer altogether. Maybe I'm getting sent to some far flung Server for my Killer games, I don't know… but I swear it was never this bad last time around.

I have a theory it's maybe to do with Nemi's extra zombies but I can't be sure it's just that.

  • I mean, we're getting to the point where the remaining Killers to add are either likely to be loudly complained about like Clown, Skull Merchant, Ghoul and Legion (again) or they put stuff on the map that will require a lot of work and adjustments. As you say, some of those Killers are licensed too, so there are negotiations that need to take place with the rights holders and maybe certain Killers like Freddy can't be reworked to fit the mode at all (like with Lights Out). Even relatively popular Killers like Pig could be badly received when there will be another Killer present to harass Survivors interacting with the Jigsaw boxes.

BHVR tend to make an event out of 2V8, so they probably look to add Killers that can be added together to maximise interest and revenue. I think the next iteration is very likely to see The Henry and Demo be added with a Stranger Things themed 2V8. Not sure that free characters like The Unknown or Dredge would be prioritised when they can make more money by adding licensed IP instead.

What makes 2v8 a little "balanced" is because it don't have MMR, so you can sometimes down some survivors in 20s or less even with all the crutches and 500 mega safe pallets. But, when you go against survivors that knows how to do the basics, it's basically impossible to win as killer in this mode. This mode is clearly designed to ensure the killers don't have a chance to win.

If the most balanced version of DBD is the one that has virtually no MMR, that says an awful a lot about how poorly the MMR system actually serves us in 1V4. I think you could make a similar argument regarding 1V4 with match ups that feature weak links on the Survivor team as being a necessary part of the Killer gameplay loop. The ability for Killers to sniff out and eliminate weak links with ease was something that people defended when BHVR trialled the tunnelling mitigation systems a few months ago. I wouldn't say that makes 1V4 more "balanced" in the strictest sense, but it does make the Killer side stronger and able to win more often. So it's not that different to the lack of match-making in 2V8 in that respect.

But yeah, having to fill a lobby with a double the amount of players (and keeping 1V4 live at the same time) is always going to negatively affect fair match-making. I never touch 1V4 when 2V8 is here because I know all my fellow casuals will be enjoying 2V8. That said, I don't think MMR is completely absent this time around. I haven't faced any day one Wraiths trying to mind game around a waist high rock and I usually get at least one of those whenever 2V8 rolls around. The Killer side will struggle if two support characters are matched together, but one or more top tier Killers can usually send enough Survivors to cages to get the job done. I've been watching streamers play Killer 2V8 and they don't lose very often.

I don't think the problem with DBD's MMR can be easily solved, tbh. It especially won't be solved so long as an MMR system intended for direct competition between two equal sides is shoe horned awkwardly into an asym like DBD. This is why I feel like BHVR are heading down a blind alley when they say they're pivoting attention away from making changes to the gameplay loop and towards tinkering with the MMR system. It's just not going to work out the way they hope it will.

  • Conspiracy theory maybe, but I feel like they gave specific direction to the VA to dial his screams back a lot so that he would never be a top choice for Scene Partner again. For me, there's no other explanation that makes sense for why it's so weak and muted now.

Yes it's weird. But more because it's weird when anything that's been in the game for as long as Steve's scream is changed without explanation and for no obvious or sensible reason. Same thing with the Myers rework. There's always a big risk that players will lose what they enjoyed about the character they once loved. I've hardly touched these characters since their changes because part of what I loved about them has gone forever.

  • I wish I could understand where the idea that 2V8 is "Survivor-sided" is coming from. To me, it's the most balanced of all the modes. Which means it's Killer-sided but actually achieving the 40/60 split that BHVR are aiming for. If anything, each iteration becomes more Killer-sided as stronger Killers continue to be added. I've Survived only 3 of my 11 Survivor games so far (In one of those Trials I decided to leave an open hatch to go rescue the last caged Survivor instead of leaving like I probably should have but still, it's clearly not Survivor-sided in my experience).

Chucky and Billy are fun I suppose but they just don't hit the same way that Legion does for me. So I think I'll probably not bother all that much with Killer until my stabby boys and girls are brought back into the mode in a way that makes them (hopefully) fun for everyone.

On a side note, I find it funny that many people argued Legion were bad for 2V8 partly because they gave Oni his power for the entire Trial. But I've yet to play a Trial when that wasn't the case, anyway. The Huntress and Wraith they were matched with fed the Oni blood orbs as effectively as any Legion could.

I'm kinda the opposite to you, I like some nice banners and badges as I find them much more visible than charms (survivor ones anyway) that I never bother equipping

I dunno, since the banners and badges are only visible on the scoreboard, I don't really get the point of them to be honest. I do really like some of them, like the Legion Pumpkins. They just don't excite me the way a cool charm does.

I really enjoy kitting out my Survivors with charms that I think they would equip. For example, my Claudette has all plant themed ones. And Lara has artifacts that I think she would go adventuring for outside of the Fog (Necronomicon and the Lament Configuration as well as a mimic chest from D&D). My Ripley sometimes has cat themed charms. Just being able to add role playing details like that adds a little something to the game for me.

I also like repping my mains on my other characters. All my male Survivors and The Legion have the Meg doll equipped and the Susie doll charm from The Casting of Frank Stone is always equipped on my Meg. Obviously I love my charms but to each their own, I guess.

  • You're not alone. I've had more than a few terrible experiences with my character rubber banding all over the place. Completely unplayable at times and thanks to the new DC punishments, we no longer have a free DC per day to spend on escaping situations like this.

I don't know why, but it seems to happen more often on the event servers. I hardly ever get this issue in the regular mode.

  • I personally like the charms and I enjoy collecting even if I'll never ever use 95% of them. But the banners and badges, I honestly couldn't care less about those. There are some nice ones and all but I've pretty much settled on my combo, so the opportunity to unlock new designs doesn't motivate me one bit.

I do feel like we get a lot less cool freebies than we used to a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure there were less free event cosmetics for all the events last year and then we had the imfamous near empty free track in the last rift that lasted for an age. I'm not a huge fan of the high concept cosmetics we mostly get these days in the premium track either, but that's a different discussion.

They've gradually shifted to the pricing structure and less generous give aways of a free to play game and I sense that DBD will go in that direction in the not too distant future. I don't necessarily think that will be a bad thing, just what I feel is probably going to happen.

I loved being the first person on the frenzy chain I was rather proud to delay the teamwide slashing. only time I didn't like Legion was when somebody else was up to bat, but maybe that's because I'm biased as a Legion somewhat main. I usually play scout and tried to keep him perma revealed so we can prw run him and then I gladly smash him with pallets that I just rebuilt later

I'm a fellow Scout enjoyer too. I once used the same pallet to knock a Legion out of their power 3 times. I'm sure they didn't appreciate that very much but it was certainly pretty funny to me. I definitely think maining a Killer (or at least having some personal experience) can change a negative perception into a more positive one, at least a tiny bit. I'm not saying everyone would suddenly fall in love with the Killer, but if more people had experienced the high of getting a final hit down with their first iteration more people would at least understand their appeal. It was the most fun you could have playing Legion.

But the deed has been done and they've been benched. It does kind of feel like the longer they remain absent and the less we hear from the devs, the less chance they have of ever being added back into the mode.

  • Let's stop pretending Legion were ever good in 2V8 as anything other than a support character. They were fun to play as, but very weak unless you got lucky and The Entity matched you up with a solid teammate who could mop up after them.

Heck, even Trapper is currently better than Legion in 2V8 right now on account of the fact that you can actually play as him in the mode 😔

  • I play mostly for hooks, so that's the metric I measure success by since my kill rate is overall pretty poor (I tend to let the last Survivor find hatch a lot, so I don't achieve a kill rate far above 50%).

Of the Killers I play the most, Billy is my best with an average hook rate of 7.86, followed by Chucky at 7.79, Legion (my main) at 7.26 and Trapper at 7.16.

But I wouldn't say I'm better with Billy or Chucky. They are just much stronger Killers than my other mains and perform better mostly because of that reason. I'm not skilled with either of these Killers.

  • I'd like some more communication from the devs on Legion's future in 2V8 as well. Their absence basically killed any excitement or appeal of the mode for me last time around.

I feel like people who argued for their removal were either taking the mode way too seriously or just not really getting into the spirit of things. Even if you think they are "broken", there's no way the argument can be made that they're unique in that respect when there is plenty of equally broken nonsense still in 2V8. I thought that was kind of the point - that everybody gets an equal opportunity to play with their broken toys.

Legion being removed broke that implicit contract for me. Why should I subject myself to a triple dash Wesker when I don't have a Legion match to look forward to? I'll probably still play 2V8 a little bit, but I'm still sore about BHVR doing them dirty like that.

I’ll always be grateful to @supersonic853 @tjt85 and @Moonras2 for reasons they probably don’t realise haha

That's very kind of you to say, but I don't feel like I've been here long enough or really contributed often enough. I'll always feel like a newbie compared to the old heads still hanging around here!

That said, I'd still like to give a shout out to the regulars, to the occasional posters (and yes, to the fallen heroes and villains of the past o7) who've made coming here worth the visit over the years. I've always enjoyed discussing DBD and reading everyone's takes. You guys are real ones for that.

  • I'm honestly kind of surprised the older lady won in then end but if you think about it, I guess it makes sense. Enough of the votes that were for the other older characters probably transferred over to her in the final round (I didn't even bother to vote in the final but I would have voted for the young lady if I had).

I'm happy for the people that wanted her to win, but I have a feeling she'll end up with a super low pick rate and barely any skins like a lot of other neglected Survivors. I'm ready to be proven wrong again. As for myself, there are enough Survivors that I never play already, so I'll probably just get her perks if and when they pop up in the shrine.

I still think it would have been a better move to add Linda as the first older lady Survivor, since she's a character those of us who played through and enjoyed TCoFS have made a connection with already. Perhaps BHVR will anyway and we'll get that Frank Stone chapter one day…

  • A spider Killer is something I would both love but also hate to see added to DBD one day. I've got a bad case of arachnophobia, so it would easily be the scariest Killer in the game for me.

Shelob from Lord of The Rings would be an obvious choice but I think a very unlikely collaboration.

  • My favourite Killer is the Xeno. I'm a big Alien fan and I find it fun to put the sentry flame throwers in sneaky, unexpected places. But most of my teammates seem to put them in the worst possible locations, which can be a little frustrating. Unfortunately, I see very few Xenos (probably because the tail attack requires the kind of precision that only PC / mouse and Keyboard gamers can achieve).

I like Killers that put items on the map to interact with that also offer some Survivor counterplay, so I enjoy facing the Onryo too. Singu used to be on this list but they nerfed the EMPs to be useless for anything other than helping slip-steamed Survivors that are being chased. So unless you're in the vicinity of a chase, you don't really get much value from them anymore.

Even Killers like Pig can be fun if they're not the kind to harass you off the Jigsaw boxes (to be fair this is lore accurate behaviour, since all of Amanda's games were rigged to be impossible to win). Chucky is also good for a laugh because his animations are so funny. Mirror Myers was also great, but he's been dead since they removed map offerings and made the mirror add-on an iri.

I'm a sneaky, stealthy Survivor and I mostly play to avoid / lose chase. That's where I get my enjoyment, so really the only difference for me with regards to Killer power is whether I hit the dirt quickly or really quickly. A lot of Killers are complained about because they have powers that are fun to play with but not so fun to play against, but that could honestly describe most of the Killer roster to me.

  • I don't know why there is this obsession with buffing "low tier" Killers to be more viable against the strongest Survivor teams. I think tier lists are way overvalued and hardly reflect the reality for most. An average player can expect to win more often than not with pretty much any Killer if they put the time into learning their strengths and weaknesses.

It can be done, but it has to be done carefully and in a way that doesn't make them more insufferable to face in low MMR. Having seen what BHVR have done to the likes of Clown and Myers, I don't trust them to make careful or considered buffs to low tier Killers anymore. Their Legion buffs were successful though, so I'll give them credit for that. For example, you can give Legion extended duration to their Frenzy because it won't really affect low MMR survivors. Since these Survivors tend to group up, they make chaining hits incredibly easy even for the previous base-kit Legion without any add-ons. So it's safe to buff this aspect of their power.

I don't know what could be done for, say, Ghost Face that would make him a better pick than Billy for the more competitively minded Killer players (I compare these two because they both have an instadown as the main focus of their power).

    Ghost Face:

    • Has an instadown power.
    • Can be broken out of his power by Survivors, sometimes unfairly so.
    • Base speed / Low mobility.
    • Relatively strong on indoor maps, but then there are very few indoor maps so that hardly matters.
    • Just a basic attack Killer at the end of the day.

    Hillbilly:

    • Has an Instadown power.
    • Always has his power (no more overheat). Power arguably gets better with use.
    • Can be anywhere on most maps in seconds.
    • Can destroy pallets with his power.
    • Weak on indoor maps, but then there are few indoor maps so that hardly matters.

The relatively weaker Killers are unlikely to be buffed to the point that will make the "trust me bro, I'm in top MMR" ultra competitive gamers suddenly drop their meta Killer of choice. That just isn't going to happen. Besides, plenty of weak Killers are still very popular regardless of their relative strength. Just because you don't see them in your trials doesn't mean they're not being played. I main two of them myself (Trapper and Legion) but I understand their limitations. Trapper is the definition of feast or famine. That's just the way it goes with him and no amount of buffs will change that.

  • I'd just like to see them bring the dailies back in some way. Maybe for rift fragments, if BP isn't a good enough reward.

I don't think Killer variety is all that bad in mid MMR. You can be matched with pretty much any Killer since they are all viable. But it really suffers at the extremes of low and high MMR. Certain Killers over perform at low MMR but struggle against stronger opposition and in high MMR only a handful of Killers can actually compete. Low MMR Survivors are as tired of seeing Ghost Face and Legion in every other game as high MMR Survivors are at versing Blight and Nurse.

There are also some Killers that are difficult to play on controller and will probably never be very appealing without offering an incentive.

Granted, I did ignore the dailies for characters that I really didn't want to play. But I also played a lot of Killers for a daily that I sucked with but I haven't touched since they were removed (like Xeno, for example). A reward helped to soften the sting of an inevitable loss. So I think it probably has made variety a little bit worse overall.

The game wouldn't end so quickly if you and your team were better players. Also… you know what? You calling a common, valid strategy an "exploit" is so outrageous that speaking to you is not worthwhile. Call for better tutorials, actually try getting better at the game, and stop blaming others for your failures.

I didn't call it an exploit because that has a different meaning. An exploit is taking advantage of an unintended bug. I suppose you could argue that slugging the entire team is an intended and valid strategy because there's nothing to stop you from doing it. But I do consider it a design flaw because you're meant to do the thing you're supposed to do to serve the Entity, which is hooking and sacrificing Survivors (hence the higher BP rewards). The Doctor earned 15K BP compared to the 35-40K they would have earned by playing the Trial out in a typical way. Maybe he finds it fun to play this way. I don't know because fun is subjective. I can only say that it's not a fun thing to me.

How do I get a better team in Solo Q? Nobody can choose their teammates in Solo Q.

And if you didn't come to debate with people, then why are you even here?

Edit: Also, I find discussions around skill whenever this topic comes up to be irrelevant. Surely a game should be fun by design for all skill levels. If it's not, then that's poor game design.

This post is just "I didn't have fun because I lost." You don't need to be fed second-chances to survive; you and your team needed to be more coordinated by better deciding when to go for pick-ups, sensing where the pick-ups were, and repairing generators. That, and there should be better in-game tutorials and/or Killer bots so that finding totems can be practiced.

It's not about losing. I can deal with losing. I escape only around 35% of my Survivor games and it's still my most preferred role. I'm saying it's not fun when the game can be ended so quickly by a short cut to victory like that. Playing that way goes against the basic game play loop of sacrificing Survivors on hooks. It's exploiting a game design flaw.

And how am I supposed to co-ordinate with my team when the game doesn't give Survivors the tools to do so? Besides, The Doctor can use his power to defend his slugs against pick ups and there's really not much that can be done. Hex: Third Seal might not be all that popular, but it should be on BHVR's radar for a rework and be given the Knock Out treatment. It's a very unhealthy anti Solo Q perk.

I hear so many people say we should try to close the gap between Solo Q and SWF as if that will make the game better but I really don't think it will. Same as it won't help to try closing the gap between Trapper and Nurse. BHVR should either be looking at ways to bring the strongest strategies / tools on both sides down a few pegs. Or they need to find a way for varied skill levels to be able to play together in the same Trial and still have an enjoyable time. I believe the latter was the intention of the anti-slug and anti-tunnel changes and I'd prefer this approach. But now they say they'll be looking at MMR improvements instead, which is doomed to failure because it will Kill queue times for their content creator partners and negatively impact promotion for the game.

  • I feel like we'll be having this discussion over and over until the day the game dies because I don't think BHVR will ever do anything to curb the excesses of these two common Killer strategies. Not even the relatively conservative mitigations made it out of the 2 PTBs, so I've given up hope they will ever be meaningfully addressed.

I came back from my break for the new chapter to see what The First was like to face and instead I got a tunnelling Ghoul and a Doctor with a full slugging build. We got a 2 out against the Ghoul despite the tunnelling because the team was competent (Ghoul can be anywhere on the map in 20 seconds. There's no safe unhooking against this Killer).

But The Doctor ended the game in under 5 minutes without hooking anyone (Hex: Third Seal, Hex: Thill of the Hunt, Hex: Undying and Sloppy Butcher was the build they used). What was most surprising to me is that they were clearly a very skilled Doctor. They knew exactly how to shock to deny pallets and vaults. They probably could have won comfortably by playing normally yet they chose to play in such a way that was utterly miserable to the Survivors anyway.

That last experience was bad enough to put me back into retirement and I haven't been back since. If BHVR actually want their game to be fun, I'd suggest they look again at mitigations. But like I said, I think that's never gonna happen.

  • Personally, I don't like DS because the only thing guaranteed to make me grumpier than getting tunnelled out by the Killer is missing that stupid skill check.

Not getting value from your build is kind of the gamble you take when running anti-tunnel (same for anti anything else for that matter). For that reason, I only run anti-tunnel when I know I'm going to be a juicy target for the Killer. Like when I'm playing on Nintendo Switch or if I'm playing as Sable (because Killers love to tunnel Sable, it seems).

My personal anti-tunnel build is Wicked + Sprint Burst + Off The Record + Made For This. Maybe give it a shot and see what you think.

You don't even need to be a good looper to get value from this build. Wicked can give you an early warning (if the Killer isn't undetectable). Very useful against high mobility Killers. Then it's just a matter of holding forward to get as much distance out of the combo of perks as you can. Obviously it helps if you can loop, but this build will still eat up more of the Killer's time even if you can't. A few of the perks also have some utility outside of being tunnelled (basement self unhooks with Wicked, map mobility and chase with SB, hidden aura and scratch marks with OTR. MFT is also the best anti-Ghoul/Legion perk, two very popular Killers. Plus it gives you endurance for completing a heal).

  • I think it was incredibly naive of BHVR to think that anyone other than the pretty lady would win in a public vote.

To go to the trouble of designing a diverse set of characters but then to throw a conventionally attractive young lady into the mix is certainly… A choice. Well what do you know, *shocked Pikachu face* it looks like the pretty lady wins. Surely nobody could have predicted such a shocking turn of events!

All that said, I don't know why they don't just put Linda from TCoFS into the game for some older lady representation. That way, they can also keep players who want to be a twenty something happy, since they could easily add her 80's version as a legendary (or vice versa). I honestly think any character would sell if their perks are interesting enough. I can count the number of games I've played as Jane, Felix and Zarina on one hand, but I like some of their perks so I still bought them anyway. I know skins give BHVR a lot of extra income, but there are enough Feng/Kate/Sable/Nea mains out there buying cosmetics at this point to keep this game afloat for years to come.

I suppose as a middle aged guy, in theory I should want to see some more older representation among the Survivors. All we have that isn't from a license is Jeff (I'm not sure he even counts since he could be in his 30's) and Vittorio (the freshest looking 50 year old I've ever seen. Dude doesn't look a day over 30). Edit: I forgot about Ace too, which will tell you how much I don't care about Ace. But then again, all my other Survivor mains are conventionally attractive 20 somethings so of course I voted for the pretty lady.

I do think a lot of the discourse around the choices people have made is incredibly silly. BHVR is many things, but they've never come close to adding anything remotely close to what I'd call "gooner" content. I've been gaming for a very long time and the cosmetics in this game are incredibly tame compared to what used to be in video games 15 to 20 years ago. They are a thoroughly modern games company in that respect.

Of course. I think people might be mistaking my intent to only have it only apply to survivor voices for some reason (was just pointing out what they have actively addressed about the issue, and promised to take action on,) but the point was that the entire game needs a normalization pass and that people are more than happy to take advantage of how poor it is currently addressed. Its also not something that requires some kind of 5 month initiative, the tools and ability required are not barriers to achieving it, which makes the promise of action years ago much more telling.

Should also mention that headphones are unfortunately the objectively correct decision for the amount of audio queues and how badly they are balanced in the game, though I completely understand your point about the loudness being less of an issue when you can just turn the speakers down. Unfortunately multiple aspects of tracking and tells come from audio queues, and many of them are easily obfuscated by other, louder noises. Having to have the volume up on headphones in order to hear someone's footsteps while they're running behind a wall on a map full of sand makes the stuff like explosion sounds or constant screams much more of an issue than they should be, before even getting into how it can impact people with hearing disorders. Maybe someone at BHVR likes the absurd audio balancing turning everything into a constant string of jumpscares, but it's an extremely unnecessary accessibility issue that goes beyond just relevant disabilities. Things like the loud noise notification being spammed like you mentioned are completely related to the concept of normalization of game audio, its about attacking the extreme highs and lows of volume in a way that reduces peaking and unnecessary fluctuations in the loudest and quietest sounds you hear in the game.

Even in stuff like the old doom engine it could be done by simply assigning float values to each file in a text document, and giving the player the ability to choose between presets. A free program like Audacity can be used to compare the dB values of extreme sounds and find said float value options without any audio engineering background. I obviously don't know how that type of work would translate to their environment internally, but it can't be something that takes years to even approach for survivor voices, let alone the rest of the sounds in the game. And the best part:

it can be entirely optional, like the visual heartbeat.

Depending on how it would be have to be accomplished, it might not even require duplicate adjusted files. These types of things can potentially be incorporated as simply as tying a single statement to a option. Its not the level of trying to rework smerch for the 90th time, or wasting tons of time on doomed reworks like the infamous Twins one, the difficulties with the concept are entirely dependent on how easy or difficult it is to incorporate a simple system into the game.

It's absolutely something they should fix. But I get the impression it's so low down on their priority list that it keeps getting pushed back by other issues. It's ridiculous that Survivors like Ace get to take a 5th perk to trial for being so quiet, meanwhile my main Meg can't even breathe without the Killer hearing her from across the map.

This reminds me of one of the funniest things I've ever seen someone do in this game. A Xeno was able to figure out which locker my Dwight was hiding in by walking really close to each locker so that they could hear his breathing sounds. I felt like I was playing against the Xenomorph for real since that is exactly what one would do!

  • Same thing happened to me. Since I only care about Dustin's hat charm, I'm going to wait a little to see if they fix the issue before claiming it.

Try Lisa Garland, Sheva, or Rose Marigold. I always thought they were funnier than Steve anyway.

Sad to see steagull go though.

Elodie is good for Scene Partner as well if you don't want to spend big money.

I get the joke, but imagine if we got actual volume normalization and/or rebalancing instead? Almost like was promised for survivor voices in particular years ago. We could fix the issue for everyone at the same time if they gave an intern a small bonus and a copy of audacity for a weekend.

I dunno, the explody notification noises are easily 100 times worse to listen to with headphones than any of the screams. Maybe they should fix that first.

I feel like there's also a bit of a generational divide going on in gaming, between the super serious younger gamers who grew up with the rise of e-sports playing with their headsets and old timers like me who usually play sat on a couch with all the sound coming out of the TV set. None of this stuff matters if you play the game like that.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Yes, there should 100% be a toggle. For me voicelines on Characters really kill the enjoyment to play them, especially when they are bad. Like, I hate Orela just for her stupid voicelines. No offense against the actor, but the person who wrote that stuff. Even worse that you hear it when you are not playing her.

Ideally I would like to have a Toggle for each character, since I do like Voicelines on some characters. E.g. I like Wesker or Unknown very much. But if the only possibility would be to have a Toggle for on or off for all characters, I would be totally fine with having it off for all of them.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4049705#Comment_4049705

"When BHVR do get the genuine actors in to record lines for the game it can really add authenticity and value to the experience of playing as them."

Only if done properly. The TWD-Characters are atrocious, since the celebrity voice actors are not forced to do Grunts of Pain or Screams. And therefore with the TWD-Characters you have the original Actors doing the voicelines and other people doing screams and grunts. And it is sooo bad. Really killed those characters for me and I was actually planning to P100 them, but now I am just salty that I paid 15 Bucks for the Daryl-Skin.

"I think I read somewhere that they might add voice lines for the original survivors one day. I don't know what I'd do if they gave my girl Meg a voice I just couldn't stand."

Yes, read this as well. And already dreading the day it will happen (and it will happen, because they believe that everyone loves Voiceliens). Might make me uninstall the game if there is no toggle to silence the characters again.

I'm not a fan of the Walking Dead but I can definitely see why lots of people were so disappointed the original actors didn't do the screams. It does give off the vibes that they're only doing it for the pay cheque (In their shoes, I'd probably do the same if given the option to do less work for the same amount of money). Nic Cage and Bruce Cambell are such real ones for sreaming for real though. It makes you appreciate their efforts even more.

  • It's even more heartbreaking now that I've learned that Robin has a pretty funny sounding scream that goes really well with Scene Partner. Imagine old Steve and Robin both with Scene Partner in the same trial. It would be so funny.

Why do you do these things, BHVR? 😥

  • I like the voice lines, personally. But a toggle to disable them for the peope that don't would be a good feature.

When BHVR do get the genuine actors in to record lines for the game it can really add authenticity and value to the experience of playing as them. Alan Wake, Nic Cage and Chucky are so much better with the voice lines than without.

But then you have cases like the new additions for Stranger Things (no disrespect to their VAs), but it really kills the experience of playing these characters because it's so obviously not them. It really takes you out of it. Plus, there's no consisentency. Ash should have voice lines in the trial. The Rain skin that I paid £15 for should have voice lines in the trial too, not in the lobby where I'm probably no going to hear them very often because the queues are either too fast or too slow (and I've gone to make myself a cup of tea). Rain's VA is not Cailee Spaeny but she is pretty close!

I think I read somewhere that they might add voice lines for the original survivors one day. I don't know what I'd do if they gave my girl Meg a voice I just couldn't stand.

  • This is devastating. Why on earth would they change this? Did some suit at Netflix twist their arm? I loved playing as Scene Partner Steve! His silly little scream was one of the little things that make this game enjoyable at those time when it's not very fun. Made me care less about being tunnelled out.

It would be fair enough if they'd actually got Joe Keery in to voice him but it sounds like they cheaped out and got a soundalike instead.

  • I joined the forums because I was deep into my obsession with the game and had nobody to talk to about it. My friends and family would never play this game and I didn't feel like waiting an age to be allowed to post on the DBD subreddit (no great loss because I hate Reddit anyway).

At the time, I also felt like there wasn't that many voices in the discussions from newer / less experienced players. Something that I felt was missing from the player feedback BHVR was getting. Some things have improved, but I still think this is something of a blind spot for BHVR. Content creators often make a lot of great points, but their takes are distorted because their experience of DBD is so far removed from that of the average player.

These days, I'm a lapsed player that barely plays enough to get out of the Ash ranks. But I still come here out of habit, to read people's takes on things and to stay connected with what's going on in the DBD world.

Edit: Oh yeah, and to do my fair share of venting as well!

  • Get them to watch this 11 hour Otz video on every Killer so they can get an idea of the right counter play. Then get them to watch the 10 hour sequel!

    https://youtu.be/xHFHiLcCmTk?si=NWP8ZuT1-oKa0phP

Obviously I'm being a little facetious here. I know Otz has published shorter beginner focused videos, too.

The point I'm making is that DBD is not at all a friendly welcome to new comers (or even lapsed returning players). There's a crazy amount to learn before you even begin to feel like you've started to understand how to play. It took me a while to figure out that DBD is designed around giving the Killer free rein to be as ruthless as they please. There's almost nothing you can do to help your friends Survive a Killer's attention if they're so dead set on eliminating them.

The way I see it, there are two ways to enjoy this game. Firstly, be ultra casual. Never care about winning at all. Take nothing seriously or personally. I had the most amount of fun when I first started playing and had zero expectations beyond hoping for a good scare or two. It was only later on when I stopped feeling the fear that frustrations started to bite.

Or secondly, be a total sweat and go all in and learn everything that you can. Become super obsessed and dedicated to improving. It takes a certain kind of stubborn personality to persevere with this game if you really want to take things more "seriously".

I bet it's the players that fall between these two extremes who eventually hit a wall they just can't push past (this is where I think I am). Maybe your friends will be reminded that DBD just isn't for them. It's definitely not a game for everybody and that's OK. I'm not even sure it's a game for me anymore and I'm 1000 hours into the weeds.

  • I mean, would you bring one if you could..?

because bhvr allowed 2 killers who by design are incompatible with Lights Out; Doc and Legion.

they violated the spirit of the mode so they never should have been allowed. if you love Legion that much you woulda been fine being a Trapless Trapper but they didn't do that.

I'm a Legion main that thinks they got done dirty in 2V8 and even I think they were a total disaster in Lights Out. They should never have been in that mode at all.

As for Lights Out, it's the one time limited mode I hope they don't bring back. As Survivor, it was a rough experience not being able to see any resources to run to for looping or being able to find your teammates for a heal. And as Killer, it felt like only the hardcore SWFs on comms were playing by the speed the gens were popping because they were the only ones who could find their teammates. The only fun I had as Killer was yoinking Survivors off a gen from the darkness as Deathslinger (Which was admittedly definitely worth loading up a game for).

I know a lot of people argue that it brought horror back into the game. But let's be real, the horror aspect of DBD is vestigial for most veteran players at this point. Nobody is playing it like it's a horror game anymore. It's more about winning by any means necessary than it is about giving someone a good scare.

  • It's not that I don't have hope left for the game or for BHVR. It's more that I know they will never again take risks to improve the game. I can't really be too critical of them because it's not a little indie game these days. A lot of livelihoods are at stake and they have investors and collaborators to keep happy, etc.

But it does mean that all they'll ever do is tinker around the edges of the big problems and make meaningless adjustments that won't change a thing. Of course, they'll still make small uncontroversial QoL improvements that everyone can get behind. But the big issues will remain untouched and actually might get even worse over time. I feel like the game is in a worse state in early 2026 in all the ways that matter to me than it was at the beginning of 2025. Based on last year's trend, I think they will continue to listen to all the wrong voices and make the game a worse experience for the average / casual Survivor player (I do think Killer is in a decent spot right now). The Survivor side has felt neglected for some time now.

I kind of understand now why they stick so relentlessly to 4 chapters a year, pumping out a ton of licensed content they don't have the resources to keep on top of. It's because the game isn't growing sustainably with decent player retention rates, but with a high turnover of new players that burn out quickly and leave when they see the game's faults are never likely to be addressed (it took me 3 years to finally realise all this, but what can I say except I'm slow on the uptake).
