  • I personally dont like chases, i like hide and seek. But most killers dont, and a lot of survivors dont.

Also, i play only solo surivivor, and you never know if your teammates touch gens at all.

Oh of course, the MMR system is pretty dire because it's not uncommon to have back-to-back games with babies and then a 4-man bully squad. I'm just curious what you're really supposed to do when all 4 survivors are simply far better than you.

It's hard to really learn and improve when there's that big of a skill gap because you're not really learning much from just brute forcing loops with bloodlust 3. At the same time I have nearly 3000 hrs in the game. I'm pretty sure I've plateaued as far as my skill is concerned and I'm just not really interested in tryharding to improve. I just wanna have fun and chill.

You really are supposed to lose.

The devs just want that 60% kill rate, and the matchmaking tries to get you there. So, if you get several matches where you 4k, you then get several matches where you get 0k, until you end up with about 60% overall.

Sure, not what most players want in matchmaking, because instead of thrilling, close call matches we get matches where we either destroy or are destroyed, which is either boring or frustrating, but that is how the devs handle it, from all i saw about this issue.

  • Well, when was that discussion, and when was bbq nerfed? And how much was it used afterwards?

So why make a thread now? because you see bbq recently again, since pack-all-regression-perks is no longer the meta, and killers try to go into chases faster again, and pack more detection perks.

But that does not make you right before, because perks run on a scale, and next to noone used bbq before the regression perk nerfs.

But since then, the meta and killer tactics have changed, and that gives vaildity at the moment.

So, you still were clueless, since you dont even see why it is run now.

Just because something is rare it doesn't invalidate the issue, especially if the issue is becoming more prevalent. It's pretty rare to go against a pub stomper Blight but there are MANY threads about him. If you don't agree with me I couldn't care less. I don't want to see you crying in threads about rare issues though, I'll call you out for it.

So, you say that the reason why a lot of killers feel bad with the game is because of teams they never encounter. As i said, the thing itself might be an issue, but its not the reason, since its not widespread enough. The fact that you either choose to ignore that or are unable to understand it makes any further discussion pointless anyway.

    Have a nice day.

Garden of Joy is pretty good for Dredge and other teleporting killers. At least in my experience. Borgo I don’t see enough to have an opinion on.

Brogo is quite bad for dredge. at always, it depends on rng, but Borgo tends to have large Lockerdeadzones, and often gens are nowhere near a locker.

For Dredge, Skull Merchant map is the only one worse, because there are so few lockers to begin with, and most are not relevant.

SWF play the survivor role so yes I would consider it a survivor issue.

Then i dont agree with you. Since the problem doesnt come up very often, while it might still be a problem, its clearly not the reason for the point in question.

People wanted all the non-gen perks nerfed into oblivion, while simultaneously having access to tunneling and camping with no consequences (aka two methods that also drastically speed up the match for a player). This is the natural result of that. Is it ideal? No, but this is just one example of what happens when players want their hands held. And this is not exclusive to killers, there are examples across the board

Matches lately, in my personal experience, are almost always determined in the first minute. Survivors either drop like flies or they blast through gens. The more we "balance" a game that was inherently imbalanced to begin with, the more you're going to see these matches where one side dominates the minute the other makes a single mistake.

Say what you want about the "unbalanced" elements of years past, but at least they made the game more fun, more interesting, and, ironically, more "balanced" in the sense that either side could implement something ridiculous in a match.

Thats because devs only balance for matches overall, rather than for every single match.

if you get matches back to back were you 4k and then never get more than 2 hooks, both matches were most likly unbalanced skillwise to begin with, however overall the average just leads to the 50-60% killrate. (they said once that they can accuratly predict the outcome of a match (and thus think matchmaking works), which i think is easier the more the skill difference increases, while with close matches, like at least i would prefer, you shouldnt be able to predict the autcome accuratly every time).

Instead, devs should focus on making every individual match balanced, but thats a) a lot harder, and b) devs focus on fast queue times instead.

  • @mikewelk said:

You can thank the Toolbox + BNP + Wire Spool + Prove Thyself + Built To Last + Stake Out combo for that. Oh and Sprint Burst so you can get to gens faster! I simply cannot wait for that new Scavenger perk that promotes further gen rushing. When all four survivors have this you might as well just go AFK and grab a snack and they would probably finish all the generators by the time you're back...

I see very few solo survivors ever bring this build once a match, least of all 4 times. Are you sure its a survivor issue, and not an swf issue?

As a killer main get accused of cheating all the time, I'm trying to p100 nurse with no add-ons or perks. There's a lot that gives survivor position away from sounds to scratch marks to just the environment moving a certain way. After a certain amount of time you also gain surv awareness, so you know where survs will be for the most part out of sheer matches played and what they tend to do what gens they'll spawn on, what loops they'll run to, places they'll heal etc consistently on certain maps. Not saying that they aren't cheating but wall hack cheaters are harder to prove than the speed, flying, teleporting, etc hackers. That being said i don't report cheaters anymore I used to religiously with vod and everything but nothing ever happened so i just stopped wasting my time, I just go to the next match, i really don't understand the need to cheat in this game at all but hell people will cheat in anything given the opportunity.

Oh i get that, i got such accusations as a killer too, but after 6k+ hours, i think you can spot the difference.

  • @Anti051 said:

The faster the generators can be completed, then the faster the killer has to jump to desperation tactics like camping and tunneling.

When killers get to the level where generators start getting completed in 4 - 5 minutes, then desperation tactics come into play pretty much at the start, lest the killer eat ######### and lose with nothing.

Since generator regression was weakened, but generator progression was not, it actually makes sense that the utilization of early desperation tactics has intensified.

But why? Is it important that 2 or 3 gens are left when he kills everyone?

I mean, i know the feeling if you get 2 or 3 gens done while you dont even have downed one single person, but i had lot of matches that i still won, even without tunneling and camping. Because suddenly, your patrol routes become more clear, your chances of finding survivors get better, and a lot of survivor recoursses are already depleted. (just as an anekdote, but i even had matches where all 4 survivors made it to the end with 8 hooks and all gens done, yet they never could open a single gate (and it wasnt an endgame build).

The thing is, this desperation sets in as soon as the killer is threatend with a loss. If he acts on it by tunneling and camping, he shifts the balance and might still get that win. But that means, if this inflates kill rates, they need to be balanced around that, and that might turn out bad for killers.

  • @Lost_Boy said:

Tunneling is a very loose term thrown about by survivors a lot when they lose a game.

For example tonight on my very last game I got some salty survivor in end game chat hurling abuse at me because I apparently tunneled Dwight out the game.

The team had 2 gens left before Dwight decided to DC on his deathhook and I already purposely left him on the ground after downing him for a third time to get picked up by his teammates when they had 3 gens left. I mean I actually gave him an extra life and allowed him to run away and get healed up.

Can't really do much more than that & obviously when you're on 2 gens with 4 survivors somebody needs to go asap.

Survivors definition of tunnelling has a very broad spectrum in this game & I bet half the people who complain about tunnelling aren't even getting tunnelled. Probably just some salty player that can't handle losing.

I don't play survivor that often but when I do I might get someone tunnelling me once every five games or so. Suck it up & move on.

Thats true. Same with camping. I had matches where i leave the hook, go into a chase with another survivor on the other side of the map, and he runs straight to the hook. i follow him and people tell me i am camping.

Also i go for the survivor i see. I try to not tunnel, but i seldom go out of my way for it, and it happens so often that the survivor you got first runs into your arms while still injured, and then even a third time. Sometimes, when he is clearly new, i let him go there, but if hes the one with the flashlight or that teabagged earlier, hes out. Technically, that might be tunneling, but its not the intent.

But other killers will work around survivors blocking them to go after the previously hooked survivor, and even when you and i do not, that still needs to be adressed.

And I repeat my earlier comment to this argument:

Ragequit during the game => ruined match for the rest

Lobby dodge => slightly longer queue time and I would argue the quality of the matchmaking can't get much worse

The dodge MIGHT make the next match unbalanced, the quitter DEFINITELY wasted everybodies time.

But then the solution is easy: Let survivors know what killer they go against, and let them lobby dodge.

Result: slightly longer queue times, but no more ruined matches. Also, since a lot of hard counters from killers are now removed (calm spirit and doctor might be left, and plague and/or no mither might be an issue), there is not too much to do with that information as survivor. Thus, parity would be restored.

btw, wouldn´t it be entitlement to demand that other players to remain in a match with you, no matter how boring, unfair or whatever you play?

  • Well, what do you say to killer that lobby dodge, because they see 4 toolboxes? ITs basicly the same, killers just can dc before the match starts because they can act on information they got before, while survivors just receive that information in the match.

But it still is basicly the same.

  • Hmm, i am not sure what my experience is worth at the moment, but i get it almost every game as survivor. However, i play survivor much less now than half a year before (mostly because camping and tunneling became so dominant), so i have a very small sample size at the moment.

  • Claudette is my mainsurvivor since i started playing the game, mostly because i like the stealth approach, and she used to be the invisible woman. While i was a main survivor, i did play both roles, but mostly survivor. When dredge was released, he instantly became my main killer., and i started playing 50/50. Since solo survivor is really no fun at the moment, i became a killer main with dredge.

Afterward is Jeff, because he is basicly my Avatar, only i have more belly and my beard and hair is mostly red/white nowadays.

Hag and Doctor are basicly the only other killers i can really enjoy, so they are on my list, too.

  • @H2H said:

maybe all the survivors who constantly complain about solo queue should just stop trying so hard so their mmr will go down and they'll face easier killers

IT doesnt work that way for survivors, because they also get worse teammates. I would be happy to play in a lower mmr, see a lot more different killers, but actually have teammates that do something in the game.

Yes Dh got nerfed and at the same patch genregression got nuked. Killers got basekit buffes Survivors got base BT and Stackout Hyperfocus were very popular so instead of +10 Seconds there were -40 Seconds. CoH removed Selfheal, but healing numbers got doubled. DS got nerfed while OTR got a massiv buff.

So what was the reson for Tunneling and camping. I think maybe the genrush, the nuked KILLER meta, the bad design of maps and not the "buffes"

The reason was tunneling is a winning strategy for killers.

You get an average outcome without tunneling and camping, meaning in some games you get more, in other less kills. What outcome do you think would keep killers form using that strategies? we know for sure its not a 2kill 2 escape, because the killrate is even higher than that. so a 3kill 1 escape? But no, if they got 2kills and the third, most killers slug to get the 4k.

So i think killers would stop tunneling and camping if they get the 4k anyway without it, and then only maybe.

IF you have a different opinion, tell me what result on average you think killers want to not resort to tunneling and camping.

  • I start with claudette and Dredge, and will then move on to Jeff and Hag.

You mean the same thing Survivors do every time a new Killer launches?

The difference being; they are giving Survivors more genrush while forcing Killers to play slower. Kind of tells you which side the devs favor.

The thing is, the devs aim for a kill rate of about 60%, they had that given the last numbers we got, and then they nerfed dh, and self healing. So those numbers might very well be of that 60% in favor of killer, and these changes might be to correct that back to the 60%. Ever thought of that? I doubt the devs favor any side, because they want as much people as possible to play the game.

Didn’t they say slugging survivors and not advancing the game is holding hostage? You can’t just slug us and wait for us to bleed out.

no they dont. The first part of your sentence is not related to the second, because slugged survivors bleed out, and therefore it ends after 4 minutes, and this is not holding the game hostage. so yeah, you actually can be slugged and bleed out, and if you would block players that do that, then you got your answer why its not coming right there.

People complain about Killers being too strong and requiring little skill

People complain about Killers who take far more skill also being too strong

What exactly do y'all want from killers? This is a serious question because I'm at a loss as to what the problem even really is anymore? So what is the actual things you are expecting to see when you play DBD?

A lot want a killer that takes skill to be bad.

People just forget that a lot of power of a killer comes from the dedication of the player.

For example, i am not a very good killer player. I suck with most killers.

However, with my mainkiller i win often enough, because i know his ins and outs, and thus, i play him way better than any other killer. And thus can be true for any killer.

Survivors explicitely do want killer to change target before theyre dead. They also want to explicitely have 2 hooks each before the killer goes for their first kill.

I think you misunderstood me, or i didnt say it. I dont care if survivors get a anti-genrush mechanic nor am i expecting them to. I think theyre hypocrites for trying to enforce rules on killers they'd call ridiculous if someone proposed zhem for survivors.

Just start treating both roles equally.

The thing is, there are not 2 roles to tread equally, there are 3 roles, and you cant.

I really dont think you can balance around killer, solo survivor and swf in one and the same system.

I think swf and solo should be seperated and each balanced differently, so both sides get a fair shot in each match.

At the moment, killers have a hard time against 3+swf but easy matches against solos and 2swf. So changing the killer balance to one side (either with killer buffs or survivor nerfs) increases the gap to the other side.

And i think thats why a lot of those discussions are around, because killer seem to argue about swf all the time, while the one arguing about killers are mostly solos.

Also, yes, survivors dont want to be tunneled, but you are the one that compared gens to hooks.

  • @roundpitt said:

The more you buff survivor, the more necessary tunnelling becomes. If you want killers to stop tunneling, buff killers so they don't have to tunnel.

Take away tunneling without anything in return and people will drop like flies. But hey, Nicolas Cage!

This is plain wrong. Because what would you like to be the outcome of an average match, when both sides are of comparable skill?

I would think the balanced outcome is something like a 2kill 2 escape result. So if the game was balanced around that, killers would tunnel to get the 4k.

So how much do you have to buff killers to stop them tunneling? So much they get the 4k reliable without tunneling.

Can you give a single reason why survivors should still play the game then?

    @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3434824#Comment_3434824

    And hearin lies the problem.

This game is balanced around survivors being scared to do gens. Around hiding from the killer, and wanting to sneak around. Around looping not existing, and pallets being a "last resort" to get away. Around survivors wanting to look in chests for items. Around survivors doing totems because skulls are scary. Around survivors wanting to group up because they feel safer together. Its balanced around survivors roleplaying survivors. But once that roleplay is removed and survivors realize that:

    • Looping is actually very effective
    • Hiding is not effective and is a waste of time
    • Searching a chest will not get you an item that is worth the time actually looking for the item
    • Doing totems is pointless if the killer doesn't have a Hex, and actually might hurt your team.
    • Who cares if the killer is near you, just do the gen, if you see them coming, run to a loop. Hell do the gen in their face because it is almost done.

Imagine if survivors simply had to search every chest, and do every totem to escape along with gens. Suddenly you add a full 2-3 minutes of game time, and that's assuming they know where every single one of them is. Imagine if survivors HAD to group up on a gen to do it, so now when you get pressured the killer pressures 2 of you at once.

This is why "low level/low skill" players think the game is so unbalanced. Because they already are bad at the game, so they go down super quick, and these things add so much time.

While you are right (and i would really like to the game to return to more stealth play and way less looping), from past experiences we can say that a lot of killers would use those 3 minutes to just camp and tunnel harder than before, and with 3 more minutes, i dont know what feats you want to implement to prevent that.

    @Raptorrotas said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3434743#Comment_3434743

Completed gens cant be regressed tho. Removing regression would be more like removing healing from the game, if we try to find similarities.

    Gens/gate ~ hookstates

    Repair ~ chase

    Regression ~ healing/denial/pallets etc.

    Escape ~ Kill.

Well, if thats your take on it, then you are asking for a big advantage, because you want to survivors to change their target before its done, and the equivalent of that - by your comparision - is not not to tunnel, but to change the survivor you are in a chase with once you have injured him, and giving him time to heal instead of keeping on the chase and downing him. I never saw a survivor asking for that.

  • I think that is a good definition, but then the proposed solution is wrong, since it doesnt affect just gen rushing but normal gameplay as well. The Survivor changes dont effect killers that neither camp nor tunnel much.

But i agree that by your definition of gen rush, it is a problem. But on the same turn, its sometimes needed. But then the CounterTunneling/CounterGenrush circle just starts all over again.

  • @Raptorrotas said:

Youre right, instead we should buff a character so bad people who play solo can keep up with good teamplayers on third party comm tools. Afterall this community is advocating for it all the time.

By that logic we instead should focus first on bringin all killer characters on par with the good ones and then buff tgem some more so bad players can keep up with suupaalfs nurse.

Way to miss the topic tho as were not debating killer power here, bit moreso a way so survivivors cant just focus down gens. You know, like survivors always talk about evil tunnel and camp.

    ---

How about all survs need to tdo 25% gen and then swap gens all the time. Im sure theyd ne find with doing as they preach. Oh and ofc a time limit they can stay around gens.

That might even be ok, if gens never regress

After all, unhooking dont give you back the hookstate, once its gone its gone, so the same should be true for gens as well, right?

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3434484#Comment_3434484

Say that to killers who get matched against SWF kill squads running hyperfocus, commodius, and send you to garden of joy. 10 seconds isn't going to do a damn thing, when survivors literally just doing nothing but holding shift + w, no pallets, no windows, no looping, no anything, take 55 seconds to down and hook. Now do it 12 times lol

So, do you want the game balanced around those swf kill squads, and if so, what do you think the changed balance would do to all solo teams, that are still about 50% of all matches?

  • @H2H said:

Since survivors have basekit anti-tunnel and will soon have basekit anti-camp and basekit anti-slug, it seems only fair for killers to get a basekit counter to survivors engaging in unfun boring no counterplay gen rush gameplay.

Maybe the first time a gen reaches 50% it will automatically block for a while or instantly regress a large amount! Maybe survivors will have to take a chase to gain repair tokens they can spend to repair some percentage of a generator!

First of, can you define what a gen rush is, please?

  • While i doubt that reworked maps favor survivors, they reduced good stealth gameplay. On several maps, where you could juke the killer before, there are now few los-blockers, and even if there are, there is nowhere to go. I would like to change that and give more stealth options, even if that means less pallets. But a lot of killers will just not like that.

  • Yes, but then you have to balance the possibility for abusal vs the fair use of said tools. And this tools would be abused, especially since you yourself stated you would protect yourself from "unfun" playstyles, which by the devs are totaly legit.

  • Can you guarantee that noone will abuse such a feature by just avoiding killer players who play a killer they dont like, or that just plays better than them? IF you can, i am all for it. If you can´t, then see those things as argument why it shouldnt be done.

  • Why do you think you have the authority to tell your teammate what to do in the first place?

  • @1ettuce said:

Don't lose all the gens. The survivors completed all the gens. If you can't kill any of them before that, they deserve the 4 out.

Not exactly a true statement but way more true than yours

if that is so, why does the game not just end with the 5th gen completed? Because its not over, so they havnt won yet, and they dont deserve anything.

A lot of the time they are all alive because the killer didnt either camp nor tunnel. Because the killer played fair they deserve to escape?

Also, there are endgame builds, especially with challenges.

  • I play dredge main, and some matches you just lose to rng, because locker placement is bad. I had maps where nearly 2/3 was locker dead zones, so you basicly have no power, and matches where gens are far away from lockers are not that uncommon too.

The last map released is especially bad, because there are way fewer lockers than in other maps to begin with.

I have to say, sometimes if i get such a map i just go to a locked locker and wait the match to pass by.

  • Since i usually dont camp anyway, i expect the changes to dont affect me as a killer.

As a survivor, i cant wait to see it.

  • well, players with p50+ become slowly more common, but i havn´t seen many p100 player yet.

  • no, but he can against solos, which are about half of their matches, since all solo matches are just above 50% of all matches.

If you want to balance for a 3k against 4swf, then you have no idea what balance means, or can you give any reason to play solo survivor, when a 4swf can only expect to get one player out on average?

But ok, i´ve seen enough posts from you to know you are not interested in balance, just your advantage.

Why on earth did they have that gasoline can by that gen? Dev's obviously don't play Killer but the gens in game don't require gas. If they'd did killers would easily be able to keep up with pressure. But you can take out face camping to remove even more killer tactics. Preety great job so far happy 7th I'm not coming back.

killers can keep up anyway, as a 60% kill rate shows us. How much kills should a killer get without effort, in your opinion?

  • @AetherBytes said:

Disconnecting players will be swapped into a bot survivor

As they deserve. But what happens to the character they were playing?

  • I think its about the same reason killers dc after 3 gens pop without a single hook. They know its already lost and want to go out.

That doesnt have to be on the killer, but i run bond on survivor all the time, and the number of people that just hide in the basement walking in circles, or hiding in a locker while you are in a chase and not even going in their direction often tells you how its going to end anyway. So most times its your teammates.

But having the 5.th blight or nurse in a row after the last 3 already camped, and the guy that hooked you seems unwilling to leave, yeah, you want to go to the match roulette again in hope of one decent match.

But i personally understand people dont like it, so i only play killer latly, until maybe decent solo matches are a thing again.

  • I would agree with xerox, but i change Coulrophobia to Starstruck, and run 2 Calm-Addons, on Midwich, The Game or RCPD. Easy win.

  • I never brought the perks before the nerf, and i wont bring them now. Tunneling either is an issue, or its not. If it is an issue, its not fixed by perks, we have seen that in the past. Then devs have to do something about it, or people will stop playing. If it is not an issue, you dont need them in the first place.

But the truth is, i just play killer instead of survivor, because i dont want those tunneling matches, regardless of outcome.

To compensate killers for the major buff that was given to ALL survivors with the introduction of visual TR, I demand that we also get hearing accessibility upgrades for killers. We should have basekit killer instinct any time you get close to a survivor, with the distance within which you can see the survivor being much greater if the survivor is injured.

And, do you think that would be healthy for the game?

  • IF you dc for being camped and tunneled, then you give the killer free time, and this, a free win. Which means the killer did everything right, and will do it the next match, and the next, and forever.

If you stay in the game, the killer might at least get punished for doing so by only getting that one kill, and if that happens often enough, killers might change their approach.

Also, people dont dc because of that, but also because they dont like the killer, they dont like the map, the other survivor got to the hex totem first and got the points, or whatever other reason you can think of.

  • I have a standard answer to that which i use and most survivors just shup up after that. It goes like

"oh thats nice of you to say that. Because the entity likes it salty, and now i can sacrifice the salt in your tears to her, too."

Well, nothing since you do it already. Clearly this message isn't addressed to you.

Thing is, I'm not a psychic (yet), I can't tell if it's out of niceness, or toxicity. Which is why I'd rather they left altogether.

Maybe, just maaaaybe, this post isn't directed at you? /S

Just like posts aimed at camper/tunneler/aso don't mean anything to me for example.

But it is aimed at all survivors. How am i not a part of all survivors? Oh, maybe i am just not part of all dear survivors, but that means they only hold dear the ones that act in a way they dont like. Strange.

CAN YOU PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE ENTITY LEAVE THE GAME ONCE YOU'VE OPENED THE GOSH DARN GATES

I get it, you won, congrats, but why do you feel the need to always wait like a minute or two near the exit before going.

Nobody's hooked. Nobody's hurt and needs healing. There's literally no point. Just go, please, I broke every pallet. What is wrong with you.

    Thank you very much,

    Much love,

    WB.

Edit: I forgot to add Thank you and I am a polite bean.

I dont understand, thats what i am doing. If everyone is safe and not hooked, i open the gate and leave. What exactly do you want from me?

  • I would like there to be seperate queues for swf and solo, with different balancing.

Killers can choose if they only play one or both, but due to the different balance, the outcome would be close together.

IF still not too much people want to play killer vs swf, just do a swf contingent, so that after x games in an swf, a player has to win y matches as killer vs swf. Win because a) they cant just go afk but have to play, and b) they might get a different oppinion about the balance in the game.

None of this will ever come, and thats why dbd might get better, but most likly will never be balanced.
