Doesn't really matter. He's still in prime position to Dead Hard again and run the Killer on another chase with his Get Out of Jail Free card.

Dead hard doesn't give the distance of getting hit though so, the two hit scenario is not as bad as the healthy three hit scenario. And unless the timing on a loop pallet or window is correct or even possible, many times Survivors will Dead Hard to nothing with you directly behind them for the next swing.

Adding a broken status would slightly nerf this perk without defeating it altogether. As it stands right now, it's OP and a headache for Killers.

    This is what will happen.

Chase, hit #1, injured, speed boost, chase, Dead Hard to avoid hit #2, Broken, chase extended, chase, down.

    Survivor gets hooked.

    Survivor gets unhooked.

Now Survivor is off the hook, still Injured, with a Broken status effect that doesn't matter because he is injured, and his Dead Hard is reloaded and ready to go AGAIN.

Correct but, no more option to heal and regain a three hit scenario.

  • @gendoss said:

I could see a good change giving you broken for like 60 seconds or something but the entire match? That's crazy, playing the whole match injured is a huge punishment for just using a perk.

Not really the entire match, until the Killer downs you, could be the entire match if he doesnt chase you again.

  • He is meta if you take a little time to practice and play on PC. His mobility combined with current Meta perks is very strong.

  • Survivor sided in that you can't smash 4K every game? I find it hard to believe that high ranked Killers aren't winning most of their games.

  • I dont really see DBD as being an unfinished game. It's more evolving than unfinished. Constant new content, new bugs and balancing issues. For a small developer, I think they do rather well, even if some of the content gets rushed and takes time to settle in.

  • A lot of games are released as "early access". They are unfinished and the developers tell you so up front. Some titles are big enough to get people to purchase at price without being complete. If the company is honest about developing a game with ongoing customer feedback, I think this can work out quite well. I would be wary of smaller independant developers and companies with a bad history of failed projects.

Some people like being a part of the early access process, some don't. If you don't like early development, be patient and wait.

  • Not all SWF are OP. My friends are worse than the average solo and, we goof around. I'm sure good teams of try hards exist but, I doubt it's very much of the population.

  • Myers doesn't need a buff, you need to learn how to play him. He's a mid to late game slugger.

  • Iron Will completely counters Stridor now so, I guess that's the nerf.

  • The hard part about balancing is that SWF and Solo teams exist.

  • The Red game breaking add-ons suck. They are supposed to be rare but Killers earn so much BP you can just play a different Killer until you can dump BP into the Killer you need good add-ons for. This is why basically every match has Red / Purple addons. Nearly every time I face Trapper, he has the add-on to reset his traps. Some aren't as bad as others but, I think add-ons should basically buff the basekit mechanics, not add completely new mechanics. They are farmed way too easily, many of them offering reveal or exposed mechanics that aren't fun on the opposite side.

  • That's the problem with a lot of powerful Red add-ons. The only balance is in the rarity, so you can't do this every time unless of course, you grind BP with someone else and only play that Killer when you have access to OP addons. It's like how every time I face Trapper he almost always has the addon to reset his traps after 30 seconds.

I personally would like to see all these gimmicky OP addons removed for things that only buff current mechanics. Like Trapper being able to carry more traps or, Clown can carry more bottles, Huntress can carry more hatchets, reducing cool downs and, improving speeds.

  • Some of the most broken addons can carry you as Killer. Current meta builds make the game easier too for both sides.

  • If Killer was actually difficult, even less people would play Killer.

The challenge is in solo Survivor play. Even the best Survivors in the game can't pull escape streaks like Killer streaks and they have to use keys to do it.

Why would anyone 'strive' for an average result?

4k is a win, what else would it be?

    0k is a loss

That makes a 2k squarely in the middle, by any non-asymetrical metric, a draw.

A draw is fine, but you don't 'strive' for it.

What I mean is a 2K should be common even at high level play. Where it's near impossible for everyone to escape but also very hard to pull 4K. Yet what we see is more like Killers that stomp through most solo teams using meta regression and, skilled SWF teams being the only real counter. The result drives a stale meta, where the fun and risky perks aren't reliable enough and everyone burns out playing the same thing over and over again.

  • Good point, seems the devs aren't helping the situation, driving futher the meta.

With the camping/tunneling meta, DS and BT are pretty much required anymore. I'm sure there's a lot of survivors that don't want to use up a perk slot of DS, I know I don't. However, after being tunneling/proxy camped exclusively out of several games in a row, I am forced to put DS in a perk slot so I actually get a chance to play the game instead of staring at the Killers face for 2 minutes then staring at the Killers face another 2 minutes.

I understand. My honest opinion is the Devs screwed up by making dedicated Killer / Survivor ques. This leads to much of the community playing one side exclusively, becoming biased and invested in "winning". Had they made a single que where one player is chosen at random to play Killer, you would see a lot more variety and casual play as many players wouldn't be so invested in "winning" and just playing the role for fun. You could even do a round robin lobby, where everyone takes turns playing Killer.

Unfortunantley that ship has sailed as, many players are completely invested in the side they like to play. Rankings further drive the competitive nature of the game, driving each side further into Meta.

  • Yeah, you have to be injured, running and, not exhuasted.

Also pro tip, use it to gain distance while you are still far enough away to not get hit, so you can make it to a pallet or window. Only use it to dodge if you absolutely have to because, it won't always work if you try to dodge a hit.

  • It's not about gen control or anything else. It's about the 4K mindset. Killer mains think they need to 4K every game to be good, when the balance should be a more consistent 2 and 2.

The mindset has been set in and any attempt to reel Killers back in will not go over well within the Killer main community.

As someone who has tried to play around with "bad" perks for fun, it's borderline impossible to even get a feel for them when you face sweaty killers and survivors lol

I love playing risky builds as Survivor. Breakout / Sabotage being my favorite combo but, more often than not, I feel like I just throw the game.

  • Killer role has been taken far too seriously. 4K is considered a "win". When the game really should strive for a 2 and 2 balance. Meaning that it should be difficult to pull a 4K but, with the meta makes it possible to 4k consistently and, Youtube taught them, that's a win.

  • The Killer is nine years old and they are trolling you.

  • Been on a Darkest Dungeon kick myself for over a month now. Highly recommend.

  • Well yes, those things play a part, if they didn't Killers would just murder all but the best SWF teams. Which is basically how the better Killers perform anyway.

  • It's a stale meta. I'm sure Killers feel the same about Dead Hard and Decisive Strike.

I don't really know how to break the meta gaming unless a large overhaul of unused perks made them actually viable.

  • Agree to an extent that the Hex perks require up to a ten objective game for the Survivors. While Killers only have one unaffected objective.

I thought we were supposed to see some Survivor totems at some point? Would be nice to lets say, block all reveal mechanics until its destroyed or, block all exposed mechanics until destroyed.

I think overall the game is dying for more objectives and the Meta has gotten quite stale. I've been burnt out for a good month now and rarely play more than a couple matches a week.

  • I take Killer role very casual, focus on the rift challenges and rituals. Getting Kills is secondary, hooks and BBQ stacks are better. If everyone plays well and escapes, good on them.

If you log into Killer with the mindset of sweating the kills, you are going to get upset over getting outplayed.

  • Haven't had much fun for a while, maybe got burnt out.

Been playing Darkest Dungeon a lot.

  • I think it's dumb to negotiate a contract in which we can lose a map.

Many people paid for that DLC and we shouldn't lose content we paid for.

I think BHVR should take this experience as a lesson. If we negotiate for licensed content, we should be able to keep the content we paid for.

I understand losing or not renewing for future content but, the stuff we have should be locked in.

  • Hatch should favor Survivors, that's the whole point of hatch, to escape.

  • My friends can't look backwards or loop either... OP SWF! 🤣

  • No

    No

    Yes

    No

Reasons - If we removed hatch Kill rates would go through the roof, already sitting at 50% - 70%+. Exit gates should already be balanced that way but, whatever. Keys should have a short unlock timer, very short but, enough to give the Killer a chance. Still this would likely increase already high kill rates.

  • Mettle of Man - When the cosmos align on a summer solstice and you manage to take three hits next to another survivor you might live long enough to take an extra hit.

Breakout - If you happen to be in the right place at the right time (not doing gens) you can follow the Killer who, hopefully isn't using a "carry perk" to try to help your teammate wiggle out, at which point the Killer can just drop them and chase you.

Sabotage - You have to be in the right place and time (not doing gens), predict which hook the Killer will go to, drop it, hope they aren't running "carry perk", at which point they can just drop the Survivor and chase you or walk to another hook.

When any of these perks actually pays off, it feels pretty good but, mostly you just throw the game.

  • Nurse requires a time investment and skill, she can be horribly punished for missing. She is crazy deadly for someone who knows how to use her.

  • You have to force them out, take your free swings and make them leave, GG.

  • Welcome to the internet bro.

  • The Twins in general, most hated Killer.

Getting burnt out and not having fun in sweaty matches.

  • Too much RNG and loadout variations for any "balance" to be achieved. Overall I would say Killers perform pretty well. Yes, that balance can shift on a dime and, a full sweaty SWF can wreck most players but, I don't beleive that is a good example of a standard game.

The desparity between Solo and SWF alone is pretty big. The wide range of skill and experience is another factor. For exmaple, I sometimes play with my friends full SWF and, we are all moslty bad at looping but, we can coordinate over comms.

I personally believe the game should have incorporated a que that randomly picks one player to fill Killer role. Match 5 players and choose one for Killer. It's not a popular opinion and all the stigmas are quite set in so, the community would never accept it. It would have gone a long way for the overall health of the game as players experience both sides more often and, playing against Killers that aren't always invested in being a "killer main" would go a long way to feeling more casual and less competitive.

MMR is designed to help solo queue get competent teammates which imo is a step in the right direction. What I don't get is why so many survivors dislike MMR

My experience with MMR was getting paired with newby killers that camped hook 1. I guess the game was trying to pair me with low skill killers and I realised that the high skilled Killers I was playing against were just better and could actually play the game.

  • How to enjoy playing Solo que?

Pray for competent teammates or a swift death.

Did Netflix announce something regarding game development?

They did announce a colabortation with Sony Playstation and I would assume try to bring a streaming game service into Netflix. This is likely why they pulled the Stranger Things IP.

I won't support them, cut my subscription over a year ago and never looked back.

I would be worried about the security of the game’s future, but try to remind myself that licenses have to go through legal red tape, and sometimes original creators can be dicks.

Yeah, it gets messy as Licenses evolve change hands and leave behind old creators who feel entitled to money made long after they've had anything to do with the IP.

  • I wouldn't be too harsh on BHVR. It's very likely that Netflix pulled the plug on this.

  • It really depends. I would assume the issue with licensed content mostly has to do with the license holder and not BHVR. Of course BHVR would want to keep Stranger Things content in the game, it had to be Netflix that pulled the plug.

Look at what happened to Friday the 13th. A whole game got stopped in it's tracks over licensing issues.

  • I'm assuming Netflix is pursuing other game titles and, they either don't want to renew their license with DBD or it's too expensive to renew for BHVR. Grab the characters if you don't already have them and, I'm sure the Hawkins map can be reskinned or just abandoned, not much loss there.

New players won't have access in the future, which is sad but, you can't always count on licensed material. Poor Friday the 13th players had an entire game development shut down on them due to licensing issues.

  • You need to detatch yourself as Killer and play for your own enjoyment. Sometimes you will get outmatched, sometimes the survivors will try to troll you. You can't let these things get to you.

It can feel just as bad on the Survivor side if you let it get to you. Played against a Nemesis earlier that completely threw the entire match just to chase me all game and tunnel me. My team was taking hits and everything to try to get him off me but, he wasn't having it. He got 1 kill.

It felt kinda bad but, I was able to keep him busy long enough for everyone else to escape so, whatever.

  • Trickster suffers from a couple things that results in him not being a whole lot of fun.

He has poor map pressure, (which often results in a very campy play style).

Not a whole lot you can do in chase, block LoS as much as possible and pray he runs out of knives, (as Sdurvivor).

Even in tall wall loops, if he has enough knives you will go down. Pallets and windows will just give him a couple free hits.

I like the concept of the power but, the way it translates into gameplay just often feels bad for both sides, somehow.

  • I don't understand the argument here. That team was playing as hard as you were and you beat them, congratulations!

It looks like MMR paired you correctly.

  • The game has always been tough as solo Survivor. The only time it isn't tough is when you get matched with a potato Killer or someone who doesn't care enough to sweat the 4K.
