Improvements to survivor should be done to help better coordination it would especially help soloQ. We should see other survivors perks in match and I think all survivor should see the basekit antimechanic progress. Many has suggested basekit kindred with only seeing the other survivors aura as well. Swf already can communicate all that information so it would be very minor buff for them. Maybe even killers could get buffs then if kill rates would go bit down and that would nerf mostly swf.

Great ideas. These have my full support.

  • Nurse and Blights powers at the basekit are not healthy for the overall game balance and should be changed.

  • Enjoy it. The game is on fire right now.

not about bring stronger stuff, it is about not having any counter-play towards the perk. you have to play less efficiently as killer or get punished by 4th hook-states. Playing a strong killer is legit only counter-play towards decisive strike because your factoring in the 4th chase as a given. With other killer where their chase is terrible, it is a lose/lose.

Im doing fine on Pig and Sadako. Isnt that bad for me.

that's barely a counter. I am wasting time vs decisive strike survivor while the survivor is acquiring generator progression. The second chance meta for survivor is borderline oppressive due to this decisive strike change.

Then the slowdown-meta and this one have something in common.

Who wins in DBD right now is mostly up to who brings the stronger stuff. Its sad to see.

Now this might seem like a crazy post to say. "SURVIVOR MAIN!" you shout. And yes I am. (Sadly because survivor is the only role where I have 75% of the perks but anyways) I mean it when I say that killers are too strong. RECENT killers are too strong. Now they might have some decent counterplay but when it comes to their arsenal, especially compared to earlier killers, they are just too strong compared to what survivors have in theirs. Power creep essentially.

Let's take a look at one of the most loved killers in the game, Huntress. Her power? Throw Hatchet. That's it. But the versatility of her power (throw hatchet) is what makes her even viable in today's games despite her releasing YEARS ago. Let's look the most recent killer, unknown. He's a pretty decent and fair killer…sometimes. But nonetheless, fair.

It can shoot essentially a pink glorp bomb like a grenade launcher that can shoot over loops and explode with AOE splash damage. This glorp bomb can also bounce off walls. It also leaves random versions of itself it can teleport too. It has Anti-loop so it'll be hard to loop. It can deal splash damage so even if you loop you can't hug walls. If you try to evade it's bomb it can shoot it towards a wall to bounce off and get you regardless. It can also teleport so it has map traversal. You see my point? Compared to Huntress, who is comparison a pistol, Unknown is like a grenade launcher, and many of them scattered randomly in the battlefield that it can fly to on a helicopter at fast speeds anytime. Now Unknown is more fair than the other I shall name to further my point.

Let's take a look at Xeno. She has a tunnel system, 2 modes, one giving her a tail with little to no windup time, which she can also fake her tailwhip and not be severely punished if she misses and even then, she can ALSO instantly M1 too, which the very same mode can only be stopped by flamethrowers which also do little to nothing as she can swat them away with her tail in no time. Those very same Flamethrowers can only be received near those same tunnels. Once you get those flamethrowers, it slows you down. And even then, they only are useful if near a loop, which takes even more time to set. So, Xeno has map traversal via tunnels, anti-loop via her tail which you cann't outplay due to little wind-up time to dodge which she can also just M1 instantly and slowdown via the flamethrowers which is kinda the only counterplay.

You see what I mean? With older killers their powers were mode simple but effective, meaning most killers will have to make up for what they lack in skill, knowledge and/or perks meaning there's room for many strategies and gameplay styles. But now killers have anti-loop, slowdown, map traversal, stealth or any sort of combination all in 1 kit, no add-ons. I understand that being a killer is hard having to make up for what you lack, but thats what made killers fair but also really skillful. Now killers have everything in their kit that as a survivor, theres no room for error when facing them besides their won knowledge and skill which is a gamble of in itself.

Survivors have also been receiving lackluster perks and horrible map/pallet/loop designs to even run these killers. It's like being in an empty battlefield with nothing but a knife but your enemy has cover along with loads of weapons. What can I do besides lose?

If the game is becoming alot more hard for killers, they should make up for it in base game changes, not making killers strong in every aspect to make up for the lack of strength they have. Power Creep is never good…

Not a bad take. Survivor definitely is in need of some improvements.

Newer killers propably have complex and sometimes overloaded powers due to the game having evolved so much and the devs trying new stuff. They also recieve feedback, that a good killer has to have:

    • good map mobility
    • chase power
    • some form of gimmick

Look at all the recently released killers. Almost all of them follow this trend.

Where I disagree however is, that older killer designs where a lot more simple. Freddy, Pig and Doctor have very complex and confusing powers when they released.

And it's not even a year.

Dbd is like a film (while we are at the topics of film right now). I'm curious how the the final act will play out. Until then, I'm here for lil Piggy. She needs all the support she can get in this BOOP-less society.

    It doesn't.

All it does is give players a terrible experience where they get no points and don't get to play the game at all.

It's unbalanced, unpleasant and teaches some bad Killer habits that will usually bite them in the ass later.

Agree! Hard tunneling creates a very stale experience for all players involved. 3 survivors will just do gens, therefore will not interact with the killer and dont take part in the chase apsect of the game. One survivor will only get chased, therefore having no dwontime on gens, doing totems or doing cooperative actions. They also miss out on a huge part of the experience. The killer will loose gens at a fast pace due to them not caring one bit about their macro-gameplay.

Dont get me wrong, tunneling is SOMETIMES a necessary evil if survivors become too efficient. See my previous post about hitting the limitations of a character. But tunneling at 5-3 gens remaining is just completely unnecessary.

  • @ember__lol said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3708257#Comment_3708257

    Elaborate on why please.

If forces players get better. May it be annoying rn? Yes, in a month or two players will be good enough to where it won't be a problem, then next time we get a huge influx of players it'll happen again.

Tunneling has been in the game since it release. In your logic, the players should get better very fast, then a new wave of new players joins and gets the tunneling-training. This is not how it works and doesnt even take the amssive inconsistencies between killers into account. A Wesker that is hard tunneling will undeniably just get the down at some point because the survivor will get hindered. A skull merchant will eventually get a down due to her power giving haste and hindered. A Nurse has next to no conterplay if she hits her blinks on point.

Sometimes there is no getting good.

This is something that I get to see a lot when playing Pig. People just tell me to get good after some games that didnt go too well. Then im analyzing my games and I see that I simply hit the limitations of the killer. Survivors pre dropped pallets and delayed my first down for so long that I wasnt able to dish out traps. This often results in a loss for the Pig.

DBD is a massively unbalanced game due to the vairety of maps, killers, addons, items, offerings and now sadly skins as well (looking at you Huntress). Just telling people to get good, when they literally could not have done any better is not right.

Sure, against many killers on many maps, a survivor will be able to delay a down a lot more and hard tunneling will make that survivor be more accustom to being in chase but dont you think that there should be a similar amount of chase time for all survivors in a trial? Tunneling one survivor in an attempt to make them "better at chasing" results in all other survivors having the time of their lifes sitting on gens for several minutes straight. This results in a boring matchj for 3 out of 5 people. Games are supposed to be fun. This is not it.

  • @ChaosWam said:

At this point I say fair game

Decisive buff, no change to OTR, no change to BU+FTP, no change to Background Player and Flashbang going through walls. And survivors expect killers to adhere to a rulebook. I play both sides and I don't even care if I get tunneled as survivor, I completely understand it.

I think there are extremes that are not tolerable. One of them being a nurse with quad slowdown that has the fun idea to get someone out at 5 gens because "they could have still genrushed her", despite the team taking 2 minutes to get the first gen done. One could say, that the survivors where not good and deserved to loose there. Sure. Thats one viewpoint. On the other end, one has to see that this is a game. Games are consumer products. If a game sint fun for the players anymore, they will just go and play something else. This is obviously not good for the game overall.

(Luckily) Not every team is running these perks, therefore not every team should get the whip. I usually play according to the team im facing. If i see, that they want to go hardcore, Im going hardcore. If i see that they are chill or not as good, I try to play really chill and create a fun experience for everyone.

I think this is a healthy way to approach the game.

  • I would not outright remove her lullaby. I would create addons that can change the lullaby in many ways.

    • Purple addon: reverses the lullaby radius. The closer Sadako gets, the quieter the lullaby gets. Otherwise the lullaby is map wide.
    • Yellow addon: massively reduces the lullaby to 6m.

The lullaby is alright, its just not really thought through. You CAN sneak up on survivors. Even on good ones.

The devs said that but I’m not sure that’s true anymore. They said they would come to the store a year after being in the rift and yet it’s been a year and a half since Huntress’s night owl skin has been in the rift and it’s still not in the shop. And I think it’s been two years since her Apex Ursine skin has been in the rift and it’s not in the shop either. So I wouldn’t be getting your hopes up lol.

In tome 4, there was a "seifuku (red)" cosmetic for the spirit. Still in limbo as of right now. I would love to get this skin. Its now been almost 4 years since this rift released and im losing hope for it ever making it into the shop.

I know this is not related to the lag issues, but with that many things broken right now, the best solution is probably to disable it.

wesker also has a teleporting bug but his is more restrictive anyways there why more bugs that most players don't even know because there's verry few players that knows them

To combat the most egregious cases of facecamping where it was next to impossible to get an unhook, that's why the meter has a distance requirement to it, as unhooks can be made if the killer is camping at a distance, if killer is hitting a survivor on the hook for example, they're clearly too close and will trigger the antifacecamp meter.

I actually don't think the wording is that vague on our communications, but thank you for the feedback on it - our intention is of course to be as clear as possible and given the name of the feature includes the word facecamp in it and a distance requirement, it does appear, to me at least, to be very clear in intention.

    Thank you very much.

There is no amount of reading between the lines needed… you just need to find the premise the devs outline and then the intention. The premise is this one:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/BDJ1PFS14LHH/grafik.png

This includes all instances of camping where the killer is "nearby". Whatever exactly "nearby" means. - But fret not, we don't just have the premise - we also have the explicitly stated intention:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/8COGQ1KFBCMW/grafik.png

Again, we don't know what exactly "egregious" or "too close" in this context means - but given how the same sentence (!) continues, we don't need to, since the intended outcome is stated clearly: survivors - remember the premise: survivors that are not the most coordinated of teams - are supposed to have an actual chance to rescue a fellow survivor. - Which is simply not the case with the mechanic as it is in place. It doesn't matter for a Bubba or a Billy or a Huntress - or any other killer who really makes it their mission to camp out that hook - if they are 1m away from the hook or 10m.

That being said: I don't think it's possible to design a mechanic that achieves what they intend it to achieve without either being very abusable by survs or fundamentally redesigning how hooking/unhooking works.

Which is why I say they should just've called it "anti BM on hook"-mechanic, boot the premise and the intention and that's that.

Edit: tbh, what bugs me the most about this is not how the mechanic turned out - but how bhvr really has a knack for messing up their communication and expectation management. It happens so often that via the way the word things or the statements they make and without giving any actual details/say what exactly they mean/how exactly they define things, there's too much room for interpretation - interpretations that are not reigned in, even if they get widely popular. This makes it effectively impossible to avoid disappointing, and eventually alienating at least a chunk of the playerbase. And it is so avoidable by just thinking a lil bit longer about what you want to say. #rant end. Sorry.

Anyway, that being said: if in doubt agree to disagree. Didn't really intend to derail the topic and make it about rhetoric and semantics.

You stated your point really well. I have no other choice but to agree. The wording is really vague. Due to how the mechanic got implemented, I always seen it as a means to tackle real face camping, at which the mechanic does succeed.

I also agree, that combating camping as a whole has often no real solution without being heavily abusable.

I would love to have a statement from the devs here. What was the specific intention of the mechanic. To combat FACE-camping or camping in general?

  • 3rd party sofware, not intended because not in the game. Easy. Cheating.

True. I wanted to use my flashlight, just for me to start crouching in front of the killer. Led to a hilarious moment of silence though.

  • @Halloulle said:

I always find it funny how people get hung up on the "face" part and repeat that part like a broken record - and even cite some of the relevant dev posts… just not all relevant passages.

Let me ask you this: What was the devs' reason to implement that mechanic? What is its stated purpose?

It was to deal with frustrations and feeling powerless on the survivor side; make survivors have agency in a situation where they don't have it.

Question: Does this mechanic achieve this?

Answer: No. Just being able to take an action isn't the same as having agency. - If it was all about "being able to take some action while hanging around" nothing was needed: there's 4% and there are skill checks. Between getting camped at 0.5 meters distance and at 5-12 meters distance and getting downed ten seconds after the unhook is no effective difference.

As it is now it's an anti-BM-on-hook-mechanic. Which would be perfectly fine… if they actually said that this was the intended purpose.

The intention was simple. To stop the "most egregious cases of camping" called face-camping. You are reading too much into it.

It is supposed to help a survivor when the killer does literally just standing next to the hook.
