  • Perks - distressing, unnerving presence, huntress lullaby and overcharge. Add calm add on and whatever other add on you like. Massive terror radius when shock not on cool down. Keep the totem up and the survivors will kill the gens themselves with missed skill checks. Can be oppressive on small maps.

personally I run distressing, unnerving, Pop and then whatever for the 4th, bbq/thana/sloppy etc etc.

calm and discipline add ons. It’s a good overall slowdown build with good amount of slowdown. No chase perks though so you have to know how to time your shock therapy to shut down loops deny vaults etc.

He does well with NOED as you can find and down people quickly when that last gen pops.

DH is the only legit crutch perk that you listed. I wouldn't have to run ds if killers didn't bother tunneling every game.

Sigh, no perk is a crutch perk (kind of my point) reread the post maybe I wasn't clear. Any perk when used well can give you an edge and people cry crutch when they fail to play around it instead of admitting they got outplayed (Sometimes the random chance of pure luck plays into this too). It eases the beat to the ego, basic human psychology.

Some perks are better than others and can be more broadly applied, some are more specific or niche, while some have too many downsides to be useful outside of very specific niche's, and some perks improve recovery from a mistake or a good oponent play (these are counters not crutches).

So a killer builds around an endgame design that punishes survivors once gens are done with quick downs, blocked exits and good tracking. Any downs/hits during the game are bonus gravy. Its a legit build which has crazy snowball potential and one application of the perks.

Feeling bad for running a particular perk is just silly. Think up a build and run the perks you enjoy.

Lastly DH is great, as killer I love it, most people have no idea how to use it and often screw it up resulting in free hits. I'm also more likely to tunnel the DS user to draw it out early, which is a very effective way to work around it. You don't need to tunnel/repeat slug when there is no DS.

If there was an equivalent perk to NOED on survivor side it would probably be adrenalin. Late game perk that means you don't have to really heal throughout the game and can get a free pass even if making mistakes when the gens all pop, again not a crutch a counter to being hit or down near the endgame.

So punish survivors for doing their objectively effectively?

    Exactly. They are you opponent.

NOED is fine and a legit perk to run if you like. It's a killer 'second chance' perk albeit with counters to balance it out... how many second chance perks do survivors have? By the logic expressed by many of these posts, any survivor that runs DS DH etc etc is a lazy useless survivor who needs to learn how to escape and has to cruch out on these perks. It's rubbish from both sides... use NOED, DS, BT, DH if you like they are legit perks and can be played around.

What most of these discussions are likely is survivors rush gens to the exclusion of all else, killer runs NOED, downs survivor expecting an easy escape turns 4 escape into 3-4k, one player comes to the forums to whine about NOED because they didn't get their expected escape.

Same thing for DS, killer fails to draw out DS early downs suvivor in egc survivor pops killer and runs out gate, killer comes to forum to whine about DS.

Just stop it you big collection of whiney babies and play and enjoy the game.

  • I get it, I main killer and some sessions are crappy. Most aren't.

I don't care about rank so that eases the tension in game. I'm happy with a 2 kill / 2 escape result and they are often the most fun/well matched games.

I love a post de-rank 4k facestomp and even more an all red ranks potato farm 4k facestomp, (they are the saltiest potatoes) but hey who doesn't its pvp after all. The occasional mori fest is a good way to end a night too.

Then you get the great players who just purely outplay you and deserve mad props.

Then the hated bully squads who just spend the whole time trying to farm and butt dance/clicky click and won't leave damn game till every drop of egc is used up. You can usually tell if you've got this pretty early. Last night I knew in the first minute after running into two survivors who just looped around the same structure endlessly and butt dancing and flash light clicked while 2 gens popped. Not gonna lie I just DC'd, If I put the time in I could probably catch them make a 1k or 2k out of that game but I just didn't feel like it. Also you know they are gonna boast/salt in post game like beasts so screw it take the 5min hit and get a cup of tea. Why would I spend my game time with the kind of obnoxious children I wouldn't want to spend my real time with? It's sensible time management which is what playing killer is all about.

Its a game don't take it to seriously, recognize when your time is being wasted for the obnoxious pleasure of others and just extricate yourself from that scenario asap and always remember... the opinions of random strangers on the internet are irrelevant to you.

  • @NinjaDette1 said:

As a woman myself I feel male killers are more intimidating then female in my opinion.A female killer would probably just end up breaking her nails while trying to kill.

Many women are not worried about breaking their nails. Sexist stereotypes really don't amount to much of a contribution or reason for choosing one over the other.

  • I think trapper is mostly fine, he's definitely not weak, as is how the mechanics of traps work, as they are powerful. What he needs is to have the lower level brown sack built into his base. Which can then be upgraded with bags. A better system for obtaining traps outside of running around the map collecting them.

Traps from lockers is a good idea and having traps handy puts him on par with hag when it comes to shutting down loops etc. Nothing worse than setting up and running into a survivor out of position making you unable to herd them into the trap. You are now empty handed in a chase within a trapless area. Unless you out mindgame them and get a quick down it is a huge time sink loss for trapper and sometimes best to just drop the chase as he's basically powerless outside of M1, there is no other killer who can end up in this position as far as I'm aware.

Also when people are disarming traps like no tomorrow, you often have to run back to an area to pick traps up or head off in some random direction losing yet more time. Time is vital to the killer in this game. I think Trapper's map pressure would increase greatly and not be to oppressive by double start and carry trap numbers, so 2 base instead of 1, and refill from lockers.

That small buff alone would probably be enough to give him a good boost kinda like clown. Now you can chase anyone with a bottle ready to go rather than time the wind up and release perfectly or be punished. It wasn't a huge change but made him much better.

  • Interesting idea but ultimately NOED is fine the way it is. Its the killer second chance perk and has plenty of counters. If NOED is a crutch then so is every second chance perk and survivors have a lot more of them than killers. You can make a case for just about any perk being a crutch as they are beneficial and boost your game.

You aren't owed an escape just becasue you did well and got the gens done. If you focused on gen rushing and ignored bones then its a threat you may have to deal with and it can be a real threat. It keeps the game interesting and provides motivation for doing bones even in the absence of an active perk.

Maybe we should just make survivors only able to walk and give the killer a wiffle bat. Then everyone can feel balanced.

  • There is absolutely no reason play by any made up house rules. You will be punished for it everytime. Just play the game and let the salties salt. You can decide on your level of oppressiveness or obnoxiousness or benevolence and tweak your game to suit.

Does the situation favour a tunnel to regain pressure, or bit of an egc/basement camp to get a kill then feel free to do it. There are counters to this and if survivors play them well they will counter you.

You want to give the hatch or deny the hatch that's in your power, again you decide. Play a few light matches and take it easy then break out your power build for a snowballing facestomp its up to you.

Players will do everything in their power to tilt you and make you lose, flashlight clicking, butt dancing its all part of the game (It's too obnoxious for me but hey you do you if you like). You have the option to do that too... any post game salt is irrelevant.

Don't feel bad for playing the game. I'm not saying you should be as obnoxious as possible, or grief people etc etc I just want folks to remember that you are not responsible for anyone else's fun. Play the killer how you want to play it, you'll either make friends or lose friends or a bit of both.

Remember bragging in end game chat is just a sad as having a sore loser meltdown, don't be that person everyone dislikes that person. Above all else be humble in your wins and composed in your losses.

  • Well last night I played all new killers I've never played before to practice and generally let everyone go. I copped a never ending onslaught of post game abuse about how crap a player I am for my efforts and de-ranked about 4 levels (although I don't really care about that). I did log off feeling a bit jaded however.

Tonight I just played as usual and if the last person was glowing gave them the hatch. Focused a lil more on people already with a crown and those who were just trying to hide all game to get the escape, which led to some tunneling etc but with good intention hehe. Slugged most glowing folks after first hook and generally just did my thing. Much better result less toxic post game chat (a lil salt here and there but not much).

Most final survivors were generally happy to get their crown done. Some nights are toxic some nights are good. Guess the idea is to just play the game and if you get lucky with a crown or a friendly killer role with it. If not move on.

Same, I want to eat pallets early game, I break every pallet that's downed in a chase and use fire up so I get faster and faster at doing it the more gens that progress. I main Freddy so by time end game all the pallets are dream pallets lol

Hmm time to level freddy and check this fire up you speak of.

  • Perhaps with the new game start state they were talking about mori's might be deactivated till it finishes thus removing the first 2 mins hook and mori play. That would make them a little less oppressive without having to change their basic use.

Yes people would still get two minute mori'd after the match start phase but at least there is more game time.

I mean they have been reworked once before, correct me if I'm wrong but you didn't need to hook someone to mori them when they were first released I believe, all you had to do was down them or so I've heard. I'm sure someone can confirm or correct this?

And you were complaining about genrushing some days ago, lol. No bias at all.

Gen rushing is a different beast, its a base game mechanic that some feel is too fast. Competely different from a powerful addon that costs bp's.

Personally I think gens are ok but some extra mechanics such as reduced efficiency while wounded forcing survivors to heal more rather than just blindly focus on gens or reworking gen tapping might aid in some of that balance. Who knows it could be worth a try.

I find games are either a snowball one way or the other its rare you get that balanced game with 2ks/2 escapes and manageable gen progression. This is probably more a match making issue than the gen speed issue though.

  • @P1P3DS said:

Now, tell me what it feels to 3 survivor escape via hatch with 1 gen left?

    Or gen rushing?

That's how it feels like to get mori'd first hook.

Yeah it blows but its part of the game you win some you lose some. If I mori off first hook and the rest of the crew split up and manage a seriously vicious loop play that results in no more deaths and then a key hatch out on last gen, then more power to em well played. My power play was outdone by your power play.

Yes keys get used after a more progressed game hence my statement about obnoxiousness before. Mori after first hook with 5 gens up is the most obnoxious way to do it. Better to hook folk for more BP's but that said you risk the gen rush snowball if you don't press your advantage so the choice is up to the killer.

Just finished a game as mint rag shackles hag with a mori, (a very oppressive build and a fun one for last game of the night) ,didn't use the mori once as I managed to 4k the survivors with hooks at 2 gens left. Maybe I should have just mori'd the last guy as I love that animation but the BP is better when you hook, its a choice and a valid one.

This isn’t an example of entitlement to me. An example of entitlement was BHVR said we’d be getting a 1.5x blood rush for three weeks, which we got, and people asked for more. That was entitlement.

This example BHVR said we’d be getting a more common, cheaper bloody party streamer like years past, and it is not working as intended. They hyped us for the event for a long time. Advertised it. I would like to know if it’s going to be fixed and if there’s an additional reward like extending the event.

The before example they came through and it wasn’t ‘enough’. This time they didn’t come through on their word after a lot of riling up. I am also disappointed because these are days lost on a timed event.

Some players are suggesting banking these but that assumes everyone will bank them for a later agreed upon time to use them. That won’t happen. If I bank them for weeks later, I’ll just have a 104% offering and likely one of a few players to be using them.

The idea here was multiple players would have a large accumulated supply with more to come and easily get 120 to 150k blood points a match. Maybe even more. I hope they hotfix it sooner than later.

Ok a more tempered reply, but I'm afraid the post is a great example of entitlement.

Its not really asking for a reasonable fix, or have the bugged cakes removed and any blood points spent on them refunded. It is asking to be compensated for the potential difference between one cake vs the maximum potential of everyone bringing cake. Just think about how silly that is for a moment. Nobody has lost anything. Just the potential to gain is not as great as it could have been, in an imaginary currency (not even real money) that is infinitely renewing.

Did the devs advertise something and then fail to deliver exactly what was promised? yes. Is that generally poor form? yes. I hope they fix it too. I'll make the rational choice to not spend the cakes for a few days to see if it gets fixed.

Like any other rational non demanding person would do.

  • Compensation. For crying out loud. This is the kind of ridiculous demand that makes me think any customer service person should be able to fight one customer per day. You press a button a red light starts flashing and alarming and its go time.

The bug is well known, devs have stated it, it still functions but in a different manner. It's not exactly what you'd expect but in the grand scheme of things its a minor detail. its up to you if you want to use them or save them.

BP's are infinite as long as you play a game you get them. The perceived loss of the cake not working as its meant to, that's assuming everyone brings one every match... Its not like you bought a defective car... How blindly entitled are you?

I'm sorry, and if I get chewed out for being abusive here so be it, but this has got to be the silliest dang topic posted yet about the event. Congrats.

  • @KingFrost said:

Why do killers get upset when survivors use keys? They're just doing their objective! Same with Gen Rush.

Exactly its a powerful addon the fast tracks the objective. Just like a mori.

Gen times are more of a balance issue as they are part of the base mechanic and are a different discussion.

  • That's using it as intended, the self imposed etiquette of not using mori's noed etc is ridiculous.

If you bring a mori someone is gonna get mori'd obviously, how obnoxious it is when you do... that is about game state, are there 4-5 gens left and looking like some potatoes then go for another hook its worth more bps. Are gens flying off the wrack then ease the pressure and take this down to three on one.

No different than keys, someone with a key will likely escape and maybe help their friends escape. I rarely see anyone go on about oh man I never take keys I feel bad. Yes I have been mori'd plenty of times I'm a potato survivor who gets caught all the time. Sometimes in less than 2 mins I watch the animation (some of which are great) say well that was viscous and re-queue.

Often after the first or second mori people start DC and suicide on hook to get out of game. Just keep playing and get mori'd, folks knowingly lose bp's from dc or sac due to trying to avoid getting mori'd then piss and moan about not getting blood points, its just foolish.

  • Lame lagswicthers got a heap of that on the new map when it first dropped. Good bleed out though well played.

I keep telling myself events can't get any worse in terms of toxicity, but each one ups the ante every single time lol.

I haven't played killer today, but I am for sure just going to get my 4 stacks of BBQ and let everyone escape. I don't care if I depip. I won't give in to the toxicity myself, no matter how bad it's been tonight for survivor. I played a game just now as Claudette where we managed to actually repair all the gens and everything. Guess what, for the life of me I could NOT find a crown so I had to escape without one. Feels bad, man.

Yep been depipping to toxic scum all evening. Just geting my BBQ and C hooks in. Some games have been nice but most have been rather poor.

I don't feel I need or should do it but I wanted to practice some new killers against a less sweaty crowd and if you gonna de-rank anyway then...

I've let so many people go only to be abused in the post game. Normally I wouldn't care but it is starting to get to me tonight. Tomorrow is back to my mains Hag, Trapper and Doc. Might even bring a few mori's along as I'm all out of favours.

  • Yep been playing no add on huntress all evening. So that people can get their shinies. Have deranked from 6 to 10. Going for the one hook BBQ&C points. the idea being the sooner folks get their shiny the sooner we go back to a normal game. Youse can haves the precious.

But I’m just about out of favours. Tomorrow night it’s business as usual.

  • Oh man, its was a joke. Have you seen the sheer number of posts about this, if folks spent as much time playing the event as they did whining about the event they'd have the dang thing on every toon by now. Try and laugh a little its fun.

You know fun "the employment of time in a profitless and non-practical way" ;)

  • To all the survivors whining about having to earn their crown, killers have to earn it too... by having the fortitude to show up and game with you whiney cry babies HA...

  • A head cosmetic to commemorate the event.

Or a shiny to bring out that salties... my precious...

  • I like this change, no longer do I hit the hook survivor when going for the unhooking one.

As for survivor BM, I love it when people stop after a pallet to butt dance and taunt, you could have run away you idiot! I'll just go ahead and smack you now.

  • DS has a lower bar for success and has its uses.

DH gets me more free hits as a killer by poor timing/misuse than people who use it well to escape.

I'd say DS from a utility point but draw it out early and its gone.

  • There is a big warning window that opens when you click that prestige button explaining what what it is and what will happen. You then have to click to proceed. So yeah its normal.

  • Ok the obvious answer is let you keep the crown if you found it no matter what its everyone gets a trophy day, but lets just see what a 4k for the crown would equal in terms of game play it would be a tunnel hook camp mori fest the likes of which you have never seen.

Now think of all the crying then.

  • @Bmj2 said:

How about you stop crying and just quit the game without telling everyone that they should quit too ?

No one actually cares about you quitting or sweating against a SWF party.

When Im playing survivor I only do it with 3 of my friends all the time and we all have a great time stomping baby killers; I actually feed on their salty tears at the end of the match when they cry about swf and it makes my day better.

Also Surviving with friends is a decent response to alot of the many annoying killer mechanics that exist in this game and alot of killers abuse them such as: Ebony Mori, Face camping, Tunneling, playing Doctor, playing Freddy, Noed and so many more.

Why would you go out of your way to stomp someone who was new? wouldn't you want a match against an experienced killer or do you mean baby in the sore loser sense. Or is that experienced killers stomp you and this is how you compensate. I'm not trying to salty I'm just trying to understand the second half of your comment.

It says for him to stop crying and why tell everyone about it and I agree with the latter. But then goes on to kinda confirm his concerns by saying you play that way because you enjoy griefing new players, thus validating the very point of his you are arguing against. Strikes me as odd.

  • @C3Tooth said:

Extend Gen time doesnt fix anything, since a Gen is complete, its permanent.

If Killer able to kick finished Gens, then even lower Gen time from 80sec to 40sec, it might still work.

5 Gen done = Gate powered? Just kick a finished Gen to de-power the Gate.

The problem with this is you could just run around kicking gens and hold the game hostage indefinitely.

  • I don't think the problem is gen time. Yes I have had games where gens have flown by and I've thought wow, but they are not the majority of games.

I think the issue is incentive to do something other than gens. Ok totems to prevent noed, get rid of an active hex etc, but I've had teams ignore every other aspect of the game to just rush the gens. People don't heal don't do totems just punch through the gens asap. Even with ruin up.

Perhaps being injured should slow you down giving more incentive to heal, I know there is a perk for this but the point of it is you slowdown even if healthy when others are injured/hooked. .

Eliminate gen tapping thus increasing killer gen pressure just a lil. You often hear survivors say over chat I'll just tap this gen then I'll come unhook you. It basically renders kicking gens useless as a pressure tool.

Minor tweaks like this could re-balance some gen issues pressure wise without just increasing gen time to drag out the game.

  • @NinjaDette1 said:

Should of seen me the other day when playing as one of my survivor mains.I found the hatch then got downed the killer then just left me to die and went to chainsaw the air😂.Now as a killer main I usually just let the last survivor go I mean I don’t really care much for blood points.Sometimes I feel people who mostly main as a killer and not as both should try the survivors side and see how it feels to be denied the hatch and or the gate some killer mains can be very sweaty just to win.

Closing it in someone's face for the bleed out is an obnoxious move, at least hook the person, its the same as waiting till the very end of the egc to leave, I'm often maxed out on chase so I'm not coming over to watch you bum dance, I'm kicking pallets etc till you just leave.

Had to give props the other day, slugged 3rd survivor to go for a 4k as I knew where they were, got the down and hook. Return to the slugged survivor. Can't find them anywhere. Looking all over the place, they crawled across the entire map to hatch out. I mean from one corner to the other. If I'd gotten there first they could have had it, they earned it mad props. That is a survivor.

  • @PonyTony said:

i agree pallets are too op in this game survivors who know what they are doing. They always abuse pallet loops and dead hard. Imo dead hard and pallets should be removed from the game or at least most of the pallets. If i have to chase 1 survivor through 5 pallets and perfectly placed windows. Wİth the gens popping each 10 seconds ,how am i supposed to kill anybody. Only way to get more than 1 kill is to use noed bloodwarden and semi-camp the hook maybe if someone come to unhook you can get others. People complain about hitboxes while they have a perk like dead hard. I don't understand.

Pallets and loops can be played around though, rarely is it a good idea to respect a pallet. If you get a survivor who drops every pallet in your face great, that's a gift. Chase even a good looper into a place without pallets and you should get that down. If you lose two gens but eat 10 pallets in the trade the mid to late game just got a whole lot easier.

I'm not great at shutting down loops either but I'm getting better and eating pallets is just the ticket to killing loopers. Also dead hard when used well like any perk can decide the length of a chase, most people mistime it though, DH into a wall, or flag it by running back into my face making for free easy hits. I'll take a DH survivor over a sprint burst/balanced landing/lithe survivor.

  • To agree with one OP point, maybe making the crowns a bit of a competitive scavenger hunt ain't the greatest in bringing folks together, but people are saying that everyone in some matches got one so they don't seem that scarce. I'm just not overly fussed on most cosmetics if I get one I get one, if not then no big loss. Don't really see a reason to complain about it though.

Good luck to you if you're hunting for one.

  • I'm playing new killers I have never touched before so am currently de-ranking like a beast, its refreshing hehe.

  • Do the crowns provide any bonus beyond a cosmetic, extra BP for wearing it?, because if not folks are welcome to them in my matches. Maybe I'm to much of a pragmatist.

  • Just wow the guy saying ez to a rank 18, just ignore it if they are proud of that to the point of bragging they probably have little else in life.

The psychology of lack of power is an interesting one, if you lack any true sense of power in life, as a huge number of people do (especially children as they aren't really in control of anything), you create an artificial sense of power to compensate. Online gaming is like a crock pot for this kind of massaging of ego. You can live in a fantasy world and have all the power you desire.

Remember that when people brag about winning and get abusive when losing its often because they are more likely an insignificant person in real life. I don't get upset I just pity them a little.

As for the rainbow match making there is a fix in the works apparently.

  • I love how this chat is one post saying there is no such thing as a smurf followed by red ranks talking about their smurf account hehe.

Not gonna lie I'm currently de-ranking as killer, not on purpose but I've maxed out the killers I main and am trying new ones, usually results in the loss of a couple of ranks. When I get back to green we'll probably see improvement again.

Yes I have had swf with half half red and yellow ranks who get very upset when you 4k them. Is it a bad match up or is it a smurfy play?.. who knows.

  • Whenever you feel its necessary.

  • Custom game to get the mechanics down. Unfortunately live server experience is based on interaction with others and that is a mixed bag.

If you are on pc and want a killer to play against who ain’t gonna grief you then I’m up for a few casual games.

  • Great if any casual gamers want to queue up in December with me for auto game with no wait. I hear the lines will be short. This guy said so 👍

  • The lobbies I dodge are ones with 3 to 4x identical toon, it’s all assumption but my experience tells me they are a really toxic group. I’ve never had the all dressed alike meme group for a laugh. I’m sure it exists but not in my experience. The second is people with toxic abusive names, now it doesn’t offend me but often again telegraphs bad attitude players. Why spend my time with people like that when I can skip out and get a new game with better people.

I put off buying dbd for so long because I hate online gaming with strangers. It’s the dumpster fire of human interaction win or lose.

with that in mind I can exercise my ability to assess whether I think it’s a worthwhile game or not. I might be wrong but I’ll stand by my decision to play or to dodge. It has nothing to do with ease of winning but more the quality of play.

There are some red flags in this game that a number of folk have cited as dodge reasons which through their online experience are legitimate.

A lobby dodge is far less disruptive than a killer dc.

  • Yeah mate this is an example of capitalising on good endgame play. I say well done.

The mori was used in the best way possible to remove the ds escape. The rest was punishing bad survivor plays.

you earned that victory mate and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

  • I try not to, but still get accused of it. Often if I run into you straight away after first hook you're slugged while I find a hook target.

If I can't find one and you are still slugged well then hook it is.

You also have to press advantage if the good looper just ran into a dead area with no pallets then an easy down on a powerful player is just good pressure.

Tunneling for obnoxious play well that's a sticky one if I've hooked you and you come back to flashlight click, butt dance and bait you may get hooked again. Not for revenge or to prove a point but you're there asking for it so why not... Nothing personal just business.

What if you play SWF and "attack" stupid teammates for not cleansing NOED? Just a hypothetical.

Its not an exact science more a general statement. Usually you see a two vs two or three on one post game survivor hate fest.

Most post game negativity is in the minority I have to admit you either get props or a GG no matter game outcome.

Although 4k mori on hag is like dinner and a show usually hehe.

  • Hag, I don't need to chase you, just bide my time, you'll trip a trap and be mine.

Set up killers are like a chess game I really enjoy hag and trapper. Its satisfying to herd a survivor, watch the sprint burst/DH/Balance/lithe and bam straight into a trap 1 sec later.

When I'm lazy I main doc, sure he's not the greatest chaser but boy can I find people and slow the game down.

With these guys I always end up pipping into a weight class above my experience and have to play someone else for a bit to basically practice them while I de-rank into non sweaty range.

  • There are a lot of assumptions in this topic. BBQ is good for information, you can apply pressure where its needed straight after hooking someone or pick a weaker target who is in a bad position and get two people on hook quickly. This = gen pressure and effective slow down.

Saying the only way to counter a "gen rush" is to use gen slowdown perks is like saying there is a gen rush problem while at the same time saying there isn't one and telling people its their perks to blame. It's counter intuitive.

I think gen times are ok. Some mechanics could change a lil like gen tapping . Some games are oppressive survivor snowballs, some are oppressive killer snowballs and some are in between. Would I feel less pressured to play hard as killer with slower gen times yeah of course I would, but it'd beef up my 4k snowball numbers considerably. BBQ and Chilli isn't to blame and assuming all posts about gen rushing extend from its use is a poor assumption.

    Sure, gen rushing exists.

Just earlier today I was up against a Wraith who got 2-3 hooks by the time we finished all the gens. Other than his last chase, he didn't take too long to down anyone, it's just that we were all over the map, all working on gens. No surprise, the last survivor got hit with NOED (she was taunting him near the gate despite knowing he had it) and everyone else left, but if that last survivor had actually tried to escape, he would've gotten one kill. This was with two solos and a 2-man SWF (me+a friend), no toolboxes, no perks to speed up gens, nothing.

There are many problems associated with balancing gen rush, though, due to its nature as an edge case. Anything you do must have little to no effect in the other 90%* of cases. The problem is that generator repair is so simple, mechanically, that there's not much you can change that affects gen rushing, but not the other 90%* of cases.

*The percentage is pulled out of thin air and is just meant to emphasize that gen rushing is an edge case and not the norm.

This is exactly what gen rush describes. A clear and concise example. Its basically a game state that results in no real way to recover, outside of tactics like hook rushing and egc camping or noed.

I think some elements of the gen rush could be lessened by fixing things such as gen tapping. How could anyone realistically repair a gen to stop progression by tapping it for less than a second while being chased by the killer. It just strikes me as flawed and renders kicking gens virtually useless without specific perks and even then sometimes not worth it.

Also maybe being injured would impact your repair speed offering more incentive to heal, remove that RBT etc. I know thanataphobia exists but seems again more likely your ability to repair a generator might just be generally influenced by the gaping hole in your abdomen or a head wound or even a busted finger.

I'm not saying its toxic or bad play, but its kinda like the 4 slug hook snowball on the killer side, usually that results from survivor mistakes but the gen rush snowball can result just from the size of the map and need to patrol.

  • My second ever 4k, just the best dang game I'd played yet. One guy told me to uninstall the game and kill myself.

Sorry mate I still haven't done either of those things hehe ;)

  • Not gonna lie I stuck a piece of clear tape on the monitor when first learning huntress, it helped me get a feel for how hatchets worked and resulted in more accurate hit in the long run. I still do it sometimes when I haven't played her for a while.

  • Lets call tunneling what it is... hook rushing, it is the killer equivalent of gen rushing.

I've had two gens pop in the first chase on many occasions. Now that doesn't mean I've lost but we now have a disparity in pressure which is about to snowball in survivor favour. (Yes I could have got the down quicker etc etc sometimes fate isn't in your favour and I'm not saying gen time needs a change that's a different discussion)

Saying that the killer tunneling is bad play and shouldn't do it, is like the killer asking survivors to stop working on gens when they get ahead and let them get a couple of hooks to catch up. You can't accuse people of purposefully trying to ruin your fun when strategy now dictates quick downs or removal of a player in order to re-balance the game.

Ok scenario 2, killer has good pressure, gens aren't flying off and multiple downs. Then yeah tunneling is not necessary and a bit of a jerk play. So some scenarios call for tunneling as a viable tool some scenarios don't. Some players can't make this distinction and continue to tunnel, maliciousness or inexperience its hard to tell and often the former given the competitive nature of the game, but not always the case. I'm afraid when this happens you just have to roll with the punches.

Camping including proxy camping... I don't want to keep re-hooking the same person, pressure is applied better by multiple hooks and perks work better (BBQ) with multiple hooks, camping a hook nets fewer blood points and can be overcome with a coordinated effort by survivors. Most killers know this and often say it on the forums.

Pay off is minimal and usually not worth it outside of getting one kill in the egc for the hell of it, unless survivors do something stupid and feed themselves to the camper then big payoff so people still do it, scummy yeah but not always a bad idea in some circumstances especially with one or no gens left and very few killer hooks so far. You can also build around perks to punish this altruistic behaviour so it is a viable play. Altruistic behaviour is and should be risky. Standing in someone's face on a hook is obnoxious and should be called out but its just the most obnoxious version of a potential strategy.

Proxy camping... I have a hooked survivor, I know other survivors will come to get them. I'm not going to run to the other side of the map and ignore that fact. Patrol gens > find no one > return to check hook. Good strategy, the lion stays near the zebras. Hook trades apply good pressure by ensuring there is always someone on a hook, its creating a 3 survivor game without having to tunnel kill someone off. Good strategy to apply pressure or re-apply lost pressure and the goal for the killer.

Survivors often do stupid things around hooks, go straight back to nearby almost complete gen you just chased them off, heal right there etc etc. Making hooks good hunting real estate. Easy behaviors to punish and may result in hooking/slugging the recently unhooked person as they are more vulnerable. That is punishing bad play. No different to survivors chain looping a poor looper or capitalizing on killer mistake to extend chase/escape, frustrating for killer but another good play punishing bad play.

To say all instances of tunneling and camping are scummy/cheating is to completely ignore game mechanics as they apply to differences in survivor and killer pressure in the moment. I know this is an epic post and I'm often verbose I'm sorry and thanks for reading, but these are the elements of game play and are often lost in a one line reply.
