  • Hate to say it but lightborn and learning to evade them are your options.

I run lightborn a lot but that's because I'm lazy and I play Myers mostly so staring at someone for half a bar of stalk while they stand there trying to blind you is great.

  • oh god, nothing reeks of commercial desperation like a crossover.

  • Yeah you could play around with killers but the only way to really get the feel of a killer is to have a target to hit.

Sure you can get a feel for Nurse's power but landing a hit with her is a different beast. Sure I could wander around as trapper but I want feedback about what traps work and what traps often just sit there when placed etc.

I'm all for loading into a custom game even if solo, but what I really want is to play an offline game of DBD against some bots.

I'm sick of pvp and the player base, its a great game marred by a bad community.

Let me just kill some bots for the fun of it.

  • MMR was a mixed crapshoot yesterday?

Hmm explains a lot games swung wildly between stomp and being stomped.

Hmm come to think of it I didn't notice much difference from regular MMR, in fact I can't say I've really experienced any variable "feel" to match making throughout any of this "test".

Well yes, I sorta have to agree there. Though I have to add that the 'you were dead from the start' thing is only revealed at the end, not very early on in the match. Regardless, character/lore accuracy should be one of the last things to consider when it comes to this, imo. Moreover, I highly doubt the devs intended this, so it's not like they went "that's so Amanda" when they designed it, or whatever.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2898041#Comment_2898041

The equivalency to a board game would look more like 1 player constantly being forced to skip a turn because the player opposite them has tons of "the person in front of you must skip their turn" cards. Is it within the game's rules? No one questions that. Did any player intentionally grief that specific player? No, not really, it's just how the cookie crumbles. They could swap seats, but then another player gets to eat the stacked deck.

Actually, that's not too applicable, 'cause the Pig is standing still. The equivalence would be that the sucker doesn't get to win because they so-happened to be seated across that one guy with a trump card that says "the person opposite you cannot win the match, they can only help their teammates."

Yes, you can have a laugh at RNG screwing that one sucker over, but you also cannot blame them for being a teensy bit miffed that their chances for victory (or even a normal game, for that matter) were denied. Not everyone is the best of sports, and you cannot ask them to be in full control of their emotions. Yes, it's a game, and yes, I am maybe taking this too seriously for my own good. But in this specific case the Pig is standing still, doing nothing. Occassional RNG screwing you over is fine, it's what makes games like Binding of Isaac and various deck-building games so satisfying. But that's culiminations of poor RNG, not another player choosing to sit still and do nothing.

Not to mention that it's entirely possible for more than 1 survivor to be the 'sucker' in this scenario. The 'counterplay' folks mention here fails to account for that/those other survivor(s). Someone even said something akin to "sucks to be u, but there's nothing you can do". That's simple BS.

I'm not calling for bans. That's an overreaction, I'll give you that. Same for calling it "toxic gameplay".

If, somehow, you (generally speaking) have missed my main issue with this whole thing, it's simply that standing still, doing nothing, should not result in a guaranteed death because of sheer RNG. You say yourself that DbD is RNG-heavy, and I'm not denying that. But to make the most out of it, it still requires player input. This requires less input than a facecamping Bubba.

Things being rare should not trump the notion of something just being BS, and "AFK" Pig is just that, BS.

I think I've said everything I have to say on this. I think I won't be able to convince you, so I'll leave it there.

    The ol tantrum mike drop.

Stop taking the game so seriously maybe you'll be less of a twat about it. That's all I got left too.

  • Both, playing survivor makes you a better killer and vice versa.

I’d say start with survivor so stuff is scarier. It’s survival horror after all.

  • @TrappinMan said:

As someone who enjoys doing it when I need a break from toxic streamer wannabe nonsense from survivors, it absolutely should not be bannable, and if it is, then so should blendettes who never come out of hiding until the doors/hatch open.

There's inherent ingame punishment for the play style in lowered bp, loss of your rbt in later part of the game, and you'll probably depip since you won't have hooked all survivors nor really chased.

This is exactly the way to look at it. There is so much nonsense on both sides of this game that one playstyle by one specific character that you may come across once in a blue moon really isn't some toxic disaster requiring people to be banned for it.

  • Most of my survivor play is solo and for the most part its just plain fun. I don't always escape but who cares if I don't, if I can die thematically and/or heroicly it can be just as fun as running loops and getting out.

You see the main complaints about solo play are always the same kind of thing.

People want it to be as viable as a coordinated team on comms would be.

Name any online PVP experience where a solo PUG is on par with coordinated team on comms in a group play experience? It doesn't exist.

If you can't handle players with different experience to you, different playstyles to you, different goals to you, different ideas of what's fun to you, without getting all pissy and bent out of shape about it then maybe the solo play experience isn't for you. (This is a general statement not directed at anyone in particular)

The whole lets make mechanics to buff solo play so that you can face off against a killer 1v1 only results in uber buffing SWF through the moon.

If teams on comms are getting a significantly higher escape rate, which we know they are behaviour said it themselves, then maybe they should be looking at imposing some kind of self limiting element to group play. Its not punishing people for group play to rebalance things a lil when people are grouped up, especially given the potential advantage it can give.

Now I should qualify that suggestion with... I personally have no idea what form that mechanic would take and whether it would even really work other than to disuade people from playing with their friends, which is not a good thing either.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2897519#Comment_2897519

I think you are wildly misinterpreting my emotions regarding this. I’m not “whining”, I’m despondent because this is yet another thing solo queue’s just cannot reliable handle. I just want to play the game and consistently stand a decent chance to win. I don’t need to win every game, I very much don’t.

Yes, it’s very much in-character for the Pig, and to a degree I can appreciate that. But I have been facecamped/seen facecamps far too many times for me not to be highly opposed against this even cheaper strategy. I don’t care how effective it is, I don’t care how ‘fun’ it is for the pig themselves, nothing and nobody should be able to change the end-state of a match by standing still and doing #########-all.

Remember: It’s a game. Games should be winnable, otherwise there’s no point. Even Saw, at very least, offers the victims the idea that they could escape, until they realise that the trap was rigged from the start. This doesn’t do that.

No, games create scenarios that may be un-winnable sometimes.

Its not a great mechanic but it’s also not the end of the world.

There are lots of games that can create a zero sum un-winnable scenario.

Also it’s not immediately unwinnable, I’ve had plenty of games where every survivor got the traps off, it’s just very RNG heavy.

The idea that all games should be fair and balanced and consistently winnable for everyone involved is deluded. It’s online pvp with a lot of varied abusable mechanics, it’s gonna be zero sum sometimes.

I think survivor would be much more exciting to play if more games were zero sum and you had no guarantees of escape much like a real survival horror experience.

It’s still possible to hatch out against it, it’s really hard but possible. My team has done it twice. I’ve also died once to it with a head pop. I’ve seen it played twice only in random games. The first time we escaped was a kill your friends match where we played around with how to counter it and found a working counter.

Yeah the one time I faced it solo my head popped, but it became a race to get as many blood points as I could before I went down. It was actually kinda desperate and fun.

Look at all the overreaction posts across all the afk pig threads…

“I can’t believe people defend this play style”

”I’d never do this in game. Its horrible”

”It robs people of their license to play”

    ”It should be banned”

    ”toxic blah blah blah”

Its nuts. This community is completely nuts with overreaction about a game.

I can imagine what it would be like playing a boardgame with a lot of this community they’d be screaming, huffy, dice throwing, table flipping children if things didn’t go exactly as they wanted them to.

As someone who has worked in such customer facing positions as well as with minors - you're basically proving that you have no experience.

If a customer walks out because of bad service, that is NOT a tantrum.

People can and have had tantrums while doing so, as such people do in all of their ordeals.

But what - if someone has a catastrophic experience that isn't what they paid for, is it a 'tantrum' for them to ask for a refund?

Is the returns section just the 'tantrum' kiosk where the only job they have is tantrums, there are 0 legitimate returns or honest mistakes?

Do you even know what a real tantrum looks like?

Sigh you are making assumptions again.

I never said you had no experience with it. We have all experienced batshit crazy customer I deserve a refund guy.

The fact you state your customer facing experience and then still give tantrums as reasonable responses is just more lack of personal insight.

“catastrophic experience” it’s a computer game not a hospital. Your examples are completely over the top compared to the scenario of I don’t enjoy the game as much as I thought.

The OP wants to uninstall after not being able to get adept after 3 games. Sounds like a tantrum to me.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2894455#Comment_2894455

Is it whining when you are actively denied even the chance to win the game because someone stands still? Hardly.

Nothing should deny the chance to win a match that easily, regardless of side.

Also, there’s very little points to farm in these matches. No one’s getting injured therefore no one’s healing, no one’s getting chased therefore no boldness points except totems, survival is completley out the window. That only leaves objective. Even being generous and say that you max it out, that’s ~10k. 13k if you do all totems. That’s nothing.

    Yeah its whining.

I had one game against a mechanic that made me die boo hoo. Is all it is.

Try this if you encounter it.

Oh man its me that's gonna go pop, try and finish a gen or whatever you want to do and then laugh oh well its only a game and move on.

Oh I didn't get many blood points this game that's ok its an imaginary meaningless currency that comes from an infinite soucre providing you just keep playing.

Here we have a character based on the saw franchise and someone found a way to create a hopeless scenario that really emulates the saw franchise.

Spoiler alert the bad guy lies on the floor all movie then kills the guy who can't escape. I'd say AFK pig is right on the ######### money theme wise.

Bit its not faiiiirr waahhhhh!, learn to laugh safe in the knowledge it will probably be patched out eventually.

Uh, no. Did you not see the issue I myself brought up that with your ‘solution’ the pig can just hit ‘em off or even grab ‘em, regardless of the side?

It’s not at all like unhooks that take 2 seconds to do.

fair point I guess people will just have to learn to lose sometimes and not be big babies about it till a better patch is thought up.

"ban them its not fair" is still a gross overreaction though.

I mean when you die in game you don't actually die in real life so just curb the tantrum and queue up for the next game, like an adult would.

    That's a temper tantrum, right?

"I bought tickets to the theme park and you won't let me on any rides? I'M GETTING A REFUND!"

    Temper tantrum.

"You're docking my pay because you mismanaged your own company? I'M QUITTING!"

    Yet another temper tantrum.

You see, when people have a legitimate complaint and plan on acting on it - just call it a temper tantrum!

No complaints are viable if you just excuse them away!

When in a trial you have 4 DH, 4 yellow items full of add-ons, bodyblock, BT, DS and gen rush to a point that only Nurse could deal with those guys, yes it is toxic.

If i go in a fight against you with an assault rifle while you have a wood stick, i do not think you would find it non toxic.

And when infinites were in the game, was using them abusing something broken ? Yes it was.

Abusing META perks + items on 4 survivors, with the amount of safe loops/maps and the gen speed, it is abusing something broken.

Its not toxic to bring strong perks and be good at the game. Its really not.

It doesn't matter what you and your friends do.

Its not impossible to win against teams like this with any killer but it can be very hard.

It definitely unbalancing when you add in comms, they've admitted the survival rate for SWF is significantly greater. That doesn't make it inherently toxic though.

I'm gonna press any advantage I've got to get kills and survivors should feel free to do the same to escape.

Balance and toxicity are different conversations. Is a strong SWF with meta perks unbalanced I'd say yes, is it toxic no not in of itself.

Yeah. Pig really doesn't need any nerfs so I'd hate to see her add-ons changed over smth silly like this.

It shouldn't be bannable what a gross overreaction.

It won't require nerfs either all that needs to happen is boxes can be accessed by all directions, similar to unhooks. Solved.

Till then just role with it, its pretty rare to see and not the end of the world.

  • @Sakurra said:

I want to try it for meme. What's the build?

Video tape + ruleset no 2.

You can do a couple of early chases and hits but you want to find a box and just bodyblock the front of it. Then its an RNG gamble as you sit there and wait for someone's head to pop. You may get lucky and get 2-3 but I've never got more than 2 in a game.

After that play as normal as typically there will be 1-2 gens still up and only 2-3 survivors left, so build for endgame.

I usually run NOED, bloodwarden, BBQ&C, 4th is whatever you like. Perks that slow the gate opening usually require pre-req hooks to get value so they don't usually help with this set up.

The counter play is the team doesn't touch a gen till everyone has got the traps off, usually leaving one person they then 99 5 gens and pop them in rapid succesion in order to open a gate and let the trapped player get hatch for 4E/0K.

Its not very interactive but it makes for a high stakes endgame.

  • @Brokenbones said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2895445#Comment_2895445

It is very different from someone getting camped out

For a start, the killer has to actually win a chase and hook a survivor before they can camp and/or tunnel somebody out. Many people would have you believe this is difficult and thus takes skill which also means it's entirely possible for you not to catch anybody in a chase.

There is also things you can do to actually stop or delay somebody who is being camped to death - there are perks for that and things a player can actively do to hinder a killer's playstyle which means there is a back and forth. This, not so much.

Many people will make the argument that survivors either don't have to work very hard to escape or that they would if they weren't carried by their perks, so with that in mind why shouldn't killers also have to work for their kills? Why should somebody's gamestate be basically already decided when they spawn in because of something the killer decided to do?

Again I repeat this argument a lot but at the very least Basement bubba requires you to catch somebody, that's way more than this asks of you to do.

sorry I didn't bother to read your reply. I assume it highlights a bunch of obvious differences about camping require a chase and having some form of counterplay. Yeah of course.

But lets face it many games of dbd have 1 chase at most, maybe some play around a hook then everyone gets out, that's a pretty common occurance and no too different from the format of blocking a box then having some endgame chases.

Sure someone may be guarenteed to die via head trap but the solution is pretty simple... make boxes accesible from all angles solved.

If you end up facing one then play it out and move on its not the end of the world.

As I've said on other posts the amount of puritanical melodrama about gameply in DBD is rediculous. While afk pig is a thing I urge you to give it a try maybe you'll learn something about how to play around it.

Maybe you'll... god forbid... enjoy it.

It's hard to tell sometimes on here because people there are people in the comments genuinely defending this as acceptable gameplay

"Acceptable gameplay" you sir have a dangerous mindset about gaming.

There's one way to play this properly everything else is unacceptable.

My idea of fun is the only idea of fun everything else is inferior!

Someone found a silly little mechanic that can result in typically 1-2 heads popping, its very rare to see more than 1 pop.

The fix is to make boxes accessible from all angles so they can't be body blocked, no other nerfs are needed and frankly if you lose one game every now and then to it it really isn't the end of the world.

I say try it yourself before its patched out, you may actually have fun.

The amount of puritanical melodrama in the DBD community is staggering.

  • If you aren't enjoying it sure play something else.

What I don't get though is why people put so much importance on getting meaningless game achievements.

listen i really dont care how a Killer plays the game right now. You wanna soley focus on Kills like the great hockey player the Devs say you are? sure, go for it. i dont blame you, as you said that is exactly how the Devs want you to play.

You can hardcamp, hardtunnel and keep a close eye on your boxes, patroling them like gens - but dont just sit in front of one box and do literally nothing. all of the other scenarios have one thing in common: you are actually participating in the trial, which you can not say for someone that is sitting still in front of a box without moving.

defending a Pig doing that is about as stupid as defending a Survivor sitting in the same corner all game to "tactically wait out until all the others die and then escape through hatch". This isnt a strategy, this is straight up AFKing and ruins the game for anyone else who has to put up with it.

I genuinely have to question why you people even boot up this game when you refuse to actually play it and instead just sit in the same spot without doing anything. At this point you might as well just boot up Minecraft and stand still in front of a tree there - its the same level of excitement AND you dont actively ruin other peoples experience (but that is what its all about, isnt it?).

There is about the same level of interaction that happens in most base games really, it’s just confined to the endgame.

As usual people have just put a bunch of narrow assumptions on how it plays and get all snotty about it. Then sit around thumbing their self righteous noses at anyone who doesn’t play the game they way they want them to.

You are only blocking the box for the first half, it’s not that different from getting a camped out kill and then playing out the endgame in a 3 v 1 only it takes less vigilance to guard the box than the hook and you skip the first chase.

I’d say they’ll probably patch it out by making boxes accessible from other directions much like hooks. Until then give it a try you may shock yourself and like it.

No thanks I’d rather play demogorgon or pyramid head chase and down survivors while listening to their awesome themes than sit there and do nothing all game leading to cheap kills. Also you get no blood points from it and no pips in the emblem system so how exactly does it benefit you. It’s doesn’t help you get any better in chase either. Afk pig and basement bubba are two things I’ll never do in dbd but that’s just me

Yeah but playing one game of it as pig doesn’t prevent you from doing those other things. You are quick to denigrate it without having played it.

I prefer other more interactive game play myself but it was kinda fun and different to try something new. Even if it’s not the most interactive.

pair it with BBQ, you typically get 1-2 kills from pops then 2 bbq stacks from the endgame kills. I was getting between 20-30k base plus bonuses when it worked.

Bring a bonus to deviousness offering and you make out pretty well.

You are knocking it without trying it.

AFKing defines as refusing to participate in a normal game of DbD.

you dont need to literally be AFK to get banned for AFKing - for example, people that play wraith, cloak and walk around the edges of the map can also get banned for it.

i distinctly remember a post in here from a while back where someone complained about being banned for AFKing for playing "get off my lawn" Hillbilly (picking billy, sending yourself to Haddonfield and camping a house, chasing anyone off your lawn that tries to enter). and if that was enough to get them banned, sitting in front of a box all game should be more than enough to result in a ban as well.

The fun police are out in force here.

Not AFK at all. Should be called Box Protector Pig, not AFK.

Is Bubba now AFk Basement BUbba? No.

As wraith I will stand still on the hatch, its tactic.

I’ve been calling it all in pig, because you pick a box and go all in, it’s a gamble but can sometimes pay off big.

I totally agree, I just wanna do it once to see how many kills I get. Not like I would do it often cause it’s so boring.

Exactly someone cooked up a lil tactic using this build and it can be interesting to give it a go. I ran it for about a week till I ran out of video tapes and got mixed results.

Best game all 4 heads popped 1 from box blocking, 3 from people just not removing the traps I don’t know why 🤷‍♂️

I never knew if a survivor struggled off your shoulder the trap would rearm. Was it a bug but they wiggled off and their head went pop barely 2 seconds later. It was really funny.

Most people were good sports about it but I did get a lot of abuse. But I often think bad sports are gonna be bad sports regardless of what you do so might as well try something different and potentially fun before they patch it out.

  • AFK pig is a misnomer for it. Because really you don’t go afk. You still participate just only in the endgame.

run the addons video tape and rules set no 2, then build for endgame. Noed, bloodwarden, etc

you can engage in a couple of chases but you want to pick a box and block it eventually. Now you play RNG waiting game. Best I’ve got is 2 head pops due to blocking the box. Mostly you just get one.

It doesn’t pay off like it used to as a good team will 99 the gens get the traps they can off and then pop gens in rapid succession to try for hatch if they still have a trap.

but most games you get one kill from the head pop then it’s 3v1 for the last gen and endgame with noed and bloodwarden you should be able to mop up at least a 3k from that.

Be ready for the salt, people lose their minds at you about this but to them I say give it a try. When teams 99 gen counter play it can make for an intense endgame that’s actually a lot of fun. Even if it’s not the most interactive game start.

  • I hate to say it but working MMR is the solution.

Lets not focus on fixing the MMR and just make everyone be nice to each other, is just fantasy world thinking.

New players stay in the game because they are matched with other new players and a working MMR should do that. Currently the system throws you under the bus in the name of fast queue times which isn't a great solution, especially for new player retention.

Its not toxic to play well.

Believe me if I down you all at 5 gens up I'm probably going to chuckle to myself about how it went and then move on, I'm not here to babysit people in game I'm here to play a few rounds of DBD and there is nothing wrong with that.

or you could farm up whatever points you can, let your head go pop and move on to the next game, no point whining like a baby player no matter what side you are on its only a game.

I think people are just being snarky.

if you're up against an afk pig, make sure to 99 the gens. pop them all at once, and you can get hatch to escape.

Good players have figured out a counter, the rest just whine like children same ol same ol.

The very last time I tried an all in pig the team did exactly this and it worked well, I tip my hat to them.

No hard feelings either way its only a game.

  • meh I wouldn't worry about it.

I get a REPORTED! every other game and I'm sure I'll still kicking around for a while.

I got destroyed by a really well coordinated hook sabo MOM squad tonight gotta tip my hat to em they did well got 1k in the EGC by luck. What was funny is even with the light hearted back and forth in the endgame one guy still accused me of being mad and tunneling him because I couldn't get a hook.

Even if you are genuinely having a laugh with folks post game and everyone is sharing some GG's, some people will still act out their little head cannon that you are angry and they are some kind of victim of your terrible gameplay.

This community is tiresome, props to the other three in that match.

Not gonna lie it was a hard game and I wanted to rest my head after that one with a couple of rounds of no chase chillin it basement trapper, both games went well even with the salty DC's in the second. Aparently I'm the worst person in the world for locking down the shack with traps and riding it out to a 3K with NOED.

I've hit my limit for interaction with DBD players for the evening, I'd play some more if there were solo custom game bots but as for PVP I've had my fill.

My bad, I didn't mean to imply that you were complaining. I am just surprised this change happened and I assume it was because of negative feedback. But you never know with Behavior, they might have just felt like it.

Nah it sounded like I was complaining. Lol.

you are right there a few more pressing mechanics that need a redress but I’m glad to see something lacklustre like haemorrhage get some changes. I’m excited to give sloppy butcher a try again.

Eh, if you can heal mid chase, you deserve it as far as I am concerned. The game is HELLA survivor sided, but not for this reason. That is just silly to complain about, in my opinion.

Oh I’m not complaining. I used it a lot myself, it just shouldn’t have been as easy to do as it often was.

It’s good to see changes that may make game conditions more threatening and safe plays a lil less safe.

  • I think its a step in the right direction too.

Outside of facing a really experienced killer, survivor is often just really safe to play. (I'm not saying the game is survivor sided its possible to beat even the most coordinated teams).

It just lacks something as a lot of gameplay isn't that threatening. When you got time to pause and heal mid chase something is kinda off. This is a step in the right direction.

Although I'll miss the power of 99'ing your heal, DH for pallet and then pop the full heal to reset 100% of killer pressure mid chase, but lets be real that shouldn't be a scenario in the first place.

  • @WesCravenFan said:

Survivors are not afraid of Killers because they have been given too many tools not to be.

I think its more they have too many tools that let you do it all on your own.

The team element of survivor has been heavily eroded in an effort to make solo players feel more viable but that's just lead to a lot of one on one intereactions taking the whole game, while everyone else just sits on gens.

I'm not scared of the killer because there is not much that's surprising about them, so I'll either run one for half the objective or someone else will run them for half the objective.

They probably won't get to use a mori and I don't have to worry about moris anyway because if we get to that I'm dead anyway.

Outside of being really good at the game most killers don't really have a lot to threaten you with. b

Its like being unable to solo your objective or eliminated early isn't fair so we want to be able to do everything without aid not worry about being eliminated.

I can't think of a duller game experience. The threat of elimination and the element of upredictable surprise is what makes the game scary without it its just dull predictable loopy chase which actually isn't that fun or interesting.

  • The last thing you want to do is have to stare at a gen for longer.

Its not really an interesting solution.

I'd say make regressing/kicking gens more valuable in general and get rid of tapping to stop regression.

Then we need to put the focus of survivor game play back towards team inetraction rather than solo ability.

Yes this makes solo queue less viable but half the games issues stem from trying to make a solo survivor able to just do it all alone like some uber hero.

Maybe make the first couple of gens require 2x survivor to repair or at least get started. You need your buddies to get it off the ground and as we get closer to the finish and its likely someone is dead then the capabilities of a solo survivor increase.

Maybe a mechanic called desperation as survivors get eliminated your ability as a solo player to complete your objective increases. I don't mean a stop gap perk I mean an evolving game state kinda like the egc.

  • Top marks for melodrama.

When I get hook camped at 5 gens I hang out for as long as I can if I die I queue again because hey its only a game.

Some of the most exciting games I've played have been high intensity play around a hook, both as killer and survivor.

You lament using perks to make counter builds but then your solution is just make the suggested perks base kit.

Bring the staitc meta build and have your anti camp built in for you, why simply because I don't like camping.

I want to run the builds I want and have the tools to counter a particular playstile all in one because I feel cheated. waah.

Can we get killer gen regression built in too to stop gen rush? I want to bring a strong build that will get me kills and end chases but I gotta run regression so I don't get smacked down by gen jockies in 5 mins and I don't want to waah. Its all so silly.

You wanna reduce the risk of being camped at 5 gens then don't be the schmuck who gets found first, play smart.

Smash out the gens and then go for hook trades, the killer is either gonna trade or tunnel which will give 2 people time to finish the gens and 99/open the gates.

No one even tries to hook trade anymore they all just want to get away for free and then chuck a sookie when they can't.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2893742#Comment_2893742

I mean - you're kinda doing the exact thing you're accusing me of. You're using a very narrow lens to frame the argument and change the definition of 'toxic' to fit a very narrow and - frankly - impractical if not absolutely amorphous property to the game.

You're basically rewriting the definition of toxic to mean 'Bannable offense' or 'quantifiably harmful' in some way. Which may be understandable if you offered some form of clarity. But you're using a completely subjective system to qualify 'toxic' in order to prove that I, myself, am using a completely subjective system to qualify 'toxic' behavior.

And, at this point, you're not even contending that what I said are in any way negative aspects of the game but are, instead, core aspects of the game. That killers kitting hooked survivors is not a mean spirited and discouraging thing, but some form of sanctioned and commonplace practice that is expected of all killers.

You're not saying that the definition of toxic is changing, you're rewriting what's good and bad based on your own moral rubric.

And the fact that you're trying to say that purely negative, self defeating, and community-wide shunned actions are in some way not any of these things, but are positive.

This in and of itself speaks more against your point than I ever could.

It's a forum. But if you wanted to educate or discuss something instead of trying to defend negative player behavior, this conversation would have turned out a lot different.

No I'm not assuming anything about you, if you look at what I've wirtten, and I implore you to do so, I've only said they way you've written your reply comes off like you are taking this a lil personally. You did resort to personal attacks about reading comprehension when I'd say that post comprehended what you said pretty well it just didn't agree with you.

I haven't made assumptions about how you play the game or what roles you play, personally I don't really care or see how its relevant but again it was your first point to dig at a reply that didn't agree with you.

You can't get your nose bent out of shape if someone says hey that seems like you are taking it a lil personally when you resort to personal attacks as part of your reply.

I never said my version of what's toxic isn't subjective, but I'm not going to label someone else toxic just because they played in a way I might not think is fun because as I said just because you don't have fun doesn't make something inherently toxic.

Behaviours that are frowned upon and banned by the TOS are defined by the TOS, they are your go to book on what's toxic and bannable.

If you disagree you are welcome to say that and why, but I'm afraid camping, tunneling, BM'ing, selfish play such as running past your team mate in the hope they get chased and you don't, making a bad hook save is not toxic its just gameplay.

It may not be very good gameplay, but sometimes it may be the exact play to make. Bad gameplay isn't inherently vindictive its just bad.

To go back to my original point "subjective opinions about what is good gameplay shouldn't factor into match making via post game assessment because they are too subjective to be reliable and you can't trust th eplayer base to be reliable".

You admit that your definition of whats toxic is just as subjective as my definition of what toxic, so I'm guessing we'll have to agree on the point I'm making that its too subjective to be used over MMR. (to be clear I'm not making an assumption here I'm making a guess based on what you've written).

I also still think you take this stuff too seriously if you define all you've listed as toxic afterall its only a game, true toxicity can be harmful, most of what's listed is just annoying moreso if you take the game too seriously.

  • It'll probably get patched out but hey might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

I got 2 head pops for zero chases the other day. Its probably the most relaxing killer game I ever played.

I never went afk once, just hung out to see how many kills I'd get.

  • Or you could just play them and figure it out like we did in the ol days.

I don't want tutorials ugh I just want custom game bots so I can play DBD without the negative online experience it often is.

It would also allow people to practice them off line if they felt like it.

Last thing this game needs is a hand holding tutorial, its painful how many games start with an unskippable tutorial process these days so the dumb kids can play them too.

  • This is almost as good as “I never feel safe as survivor” the other dumbest thing I’ve ever read on these forums.

    classic.

  • Yeah either build for slowdown or build for endgame.

You eventually hit a point where fun builds aren't that fun anymore because what makes them fun is getting good synergy and kills out of them, eventually you either stack regression or play NOED/bloodwarden like everyone else does at high level.

  • The mori build,

Rancor, devour hope, undying, NOED. Ebony mori.

Gens will fly but folks will die. Switch out NOED for slowdown if you want. Corrupt, pop, or ruin.

  • Yeah people would just use it to cull unwanted killers from their roster simply because those killers were strong.

Its a horror game I say embrace your phobia.

I'm waiting for some kind of arachnid killer, people are particularly scared of spiders.

Yeah I didn't mean to offend anyone. It's just hearing it over and over.

You get blamed for it when they heal right in front of you. lol

They never blame themselves only you no matter if they played crap.

Even the best streamers do it when they need to.

Yeah man I wasn't implying you offend anyone, I completely agree.

Its the go to tantrum accusation, what's toxic about camping and tunneling, isn't the camping and tunneling its the gross overreaction to it.

You couple that with people who feel justified in being unpleasant purely because of their overreaction to it and that's true toxicity.

  • @VirtuaTyKing said:

Camping, tunneling and slugging are sometimes viable strategies against SWF using comms. They don't always work anyway if the team is good.

You deem it toxic trying to kill people as a killer?

Yeah against soloq it can be unfair if your team is rubbish. It's not the killers fault either if your team is rubbish or didn't bring BT or DS.

    I yawn at these words!

I understand there are exceptions when a killer can do one hit downs all the time around a hook. They should fix that.

Even then just do gens and get out.

Doesn't make a fun game but then neither does a comm squad for killer.

Tell me you don't play killer without telling me you don't play killer.

    Also.

Tell me you don't have profound reading comprehension without - why am I even bothering, you're clearly not reading this right now.

You're making an overt generalization to 'win' on a specific example. Why am I wasting my time.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2892908#Comment_2892908

Tunneling is all about the instance.

First off - if it's been a hot 5 seconds, you're not tunneling off of hook.

If you're forgoing injuring teammates and bulldozing to get to the unhooked survivor - yeah, you're tunneling. And, honestly, the game should probably slap you across the wrist.

If your prime example of apex killer gameplay is placing a survivor on a hook within 30 seconds of their ally unhooking them, that's not just pitiful, it's reckless.

Also - if you're making the judgement call to chainsaw someone to the ground as they are pulled off hook and put them back on there, BT and DS be damned... then you should probably be willing to eat the -600 BP fine. You're walking away with thousands, you can't take 600 off the top?

And that 600 won't be a big deal if you just DONT keep doing that all the time.

It's seldom that the person being unhooked is the greatest priority in the match bar none - especially with the perks in play with the meta where it is.

You try swinging for the unhooked survivor - you ready to eat BT, DH, DS, or another flashlight save? You realize that it's more efficient to kill momentum if you hit the unhooker, right? You're getting a health state without having to worry about the 3 most common perks working against you.

Valik, this response here is a very good example of the kind of mindset I'm talking about regarding how the game should be played.

You've made a bunch of assumptions about how this person plays based on what to me seems like a pretty reasonable assessment of what you were saying. While they did take a lil dig at the idea of complaining about camping and tunneling "I yawn at these word" its not really directed at you personally, but your reply indicates you kinda took it as such. You come back with a bunch of assumptions about them as a gamer and then go for a personal attack over answering their point.

Now its an online forum its all fair game, I take the piss plenty out of people too but can you see how its quite relevant to this topic. You appear to take a lot of personal offense to things you don't like in game and if you want to do that its up to you. But you can't expect to impose your version of fun on someone else and call anything else toxic as a result.

This rigid set of made up rules of gameplay is what leads to a lot of misuse of the report system. Taking this subjective view of things and applying it to match making isn't a great idea.

I'd say keep MMR a results based and reward people for props with bonus BP's or shards. Maybe larger bonuses if opponents give each other props. Its kind of like a reverse party streamers. Post game lets give everyone a bit extra with props because it was a good game.

  • @dinomazing said:

I feel you, but I also thought the question was purely addressing the "thumbs up" thing you can do after a match.

Like matchmaking could be a combination of both mmr and who has the most props.

I didn't get from it that people would be punished for having (often arbitrary) reports against them. It just seemed like a way to utilize the props system.

I think that was the intent of it but how often do you think folks give props to people if they lost?

Its a bit too subjective and easy to manipulate with respect to match making.

I mean if you play with people you like you can add them to your friends list, maybe a system to requeue with your current group if you have a good one, those make sense. Maybe even a rematch button where killer and survivors can vote to match up again, vote no to opt out and go to a random draw.

Trying to match opponents based on props though its too marred by what people consider a good game or good sportsmanship.

I like a scary match against a brutal killer as survivor, its why I don't get tilted by more intense killer play because its what makes the game fun, its survival horror after all. I want to flee from a scary killer who's out to get me, not waste their time running around the same rock while my buddies complete the objective.
