Franklins and Lightborn
It's actually been a while though which makes me sad. Some of the messages are pretty funny.
-
Franklins: Hitting the survivor not only drops the item but gives the killer a decent buff until the item is picked back up.
- Medkits: Mapwide Heal Reduction
- Flashlights: Mini Lightborn
- Map: Gen Progress Info
- Key: Advanced Aura Reading
- Toolbox: Mapwide Gen Slowdown
I wanted to make it semi-realistic. I also don't know how "simple" this would be but I wanted to buff Franklins 🔨🔨🔨
-
Now I might sound like a broken record but hear me out...
Make Spasmodic Breath basekit. I strongly feel this would be the only change she needs to be "fair and balanced".
-
They don't need to run anything else. It's the same with Nurse; I've seen quite a few run only shadownborn with no add-ons.
Some do it to Flex, some to challenge themselves, some to make a point, and others to have an excuse if they lose.
-
Make the Spasmodic Breath add-on (60s of 115 speed after blink hit) basekit.
I will never not suggest this when I see these threads made. It would work so well; her kit stays the exact same but is now nerfed where she can't just spam the power and snowball instantly.
She would get use out of more M1 killer perks that'd she'd otherwise never use and while still strong she wouldn't be top of the food chain anymore and many would even start to consider her fun to go against!
I swear one day my hot take will take off and become a normal take!
-
They aren't contradicting each other.
If a killer/survivor body blocks someone for an extended period; that's holding the person hostage.
If 2+ survivors stealth around and refuse to do gens for an extended period; that's holding the game hostage.
3-Gens are considered to be holding the game hostage when used to grief instead of win.
They've been pretty clear an open about hostage holding multiple times.
-
I'm still waiting for that supposed 2nd Easter egg on Sanctum of Wrath. -_-
-
I don't really see much wrong outside of it being rough for you personally.
Pinhead either chased you a really long time or had to drop chase with others multiple times. You were his first hook with multiple gens done and decent progress on some others.
If he doesn't tunnel there that's an almost guaranteed 3-4 man out if your team keeps the pressure up. I understand the tunnel and that pallet vault probably made that decision even easier.
Same thing in the Chucky match. No hooks with a lot of gen progress, I understand the tunnel. It sucks but I get it.
Trickster match was bad teammates. That was easy pressure for the Trickster to punish the farm. I'll sometimes do the same thing so I can take it easy later in the match. It happens in solo queue.
If you're really finding yourself getting tunneled every match then why not switch We'll Make It out for DS or OtR to extend the chases a bit more?
I understand and sympathize with the venting but I can't really say I disagree with any of the killer plays in the videos you showed; at least with my limited view of the matches. They want to win and they're playing as such.
-
I've realized recently I don't really pay attention to directly winning and losing anymore. I usually go into a match to mess around or do challenges so if I make progress; I won and if I don't; I lost.
I also consider how much fun I had and the general feeling at the end of the match. If I get tunneled out first but I had good chases or I got a ton of BP; they're both wins.
Other then that I have the general view for killer and I consider the team for survivor.
Killer
Win: 3-4k
Tie: 2k
Loss: 0-1k
Survivor
Win: 3-4 Escape
Tie: 2 Escape
Loss: 0-1 Escape

I feel like that Otz video was mostly just a build up of stress that he finally let loose. Deciding to abandon a bunch of video types over a AMA is silly and even if the AMA did go well, he probably would have let some of them go anyway which I think is for the best.
He plays DBD a lot and needs a bit of a break. Having less content types will let him focus on other games and on the content types he enjoys which will help his mindset IMO.
Now lets get to some of his AMA complaints and my opinions thereafter.
No Custom Lobby Changes:
I'm 50/50 with. I get why he wants it but I also get why it's not a major priority. DBD will never be a hardcore comp game no matter what changes they make and many people consider comp DBD a joke. At best they could add seed selectors to make things fair but even then, it's still the same stuff.
No More General Perks:
I actually disagree with Otz a bit on this one. The general pool isn't great but now more then ever it's not that much of a grind to get extra perks from other free characters. 1.2mil or so to get P1 and then you have whatever perk you wanted unlocked for everyone. This gives an incentive to grind for newer players and it also gives them an idea what the game is about.
If newer players don't stay it's not because of perks but because of the general gameplay loop. New players also won't be able to make proper use of stronger perks either and it runs the risk of them getting their MMR too high if they do.
I get wanting to have more stuff for newer players which I'm fine with; the character price reduction was great for this but I don't think extra perks is the way IMO.
Lobby Screen Updates:
I agree with Otz here. I don't know what kinda weird ass code they have but it shouldn't take years to make a simple change like that; coming from someone who knows nothing about code. If the Lobbies are that hardcoded then I'd rather see an entire lobby rework to make things nicer; be able to switch themes, etc.
SWF/Solo Gap:
As someone who plays in a 2-man and solo I actually agree with the devs a bit. I would have said info was the biggest problem but the Hud update is an absolute godsend. Even without direct communication you can get an idea of what's happening and adapt on the spot. It's not as good as coms but it's enough to play IMO
To me general skill is the bigger issue. As killer I'd rather have the average 4-man SWF then I would a group of 4 good solos. As solo it's all about carrying equal weight and picking up slack for those who aren't. Sometimes you can and other times you can't. Sometimes you're the bad solo teammate and sometimes you're not.
Killing Self On Hook Solution:
I'm happy the devs were blunt about this because I agree there is nothing they can currently do. If people want to be done with that match then they will be done. Even if you Band-Aid fix hooks they can go AFK or start to troll. Whatever the case the match is still ruined all the same and people will complain more about the "solution" because it didn't work.
I don't think this issue is fixable with how the game currently works and good on them for being blunt about it. If you really hate it that much then bring reassurance to troll a little.
Final Thoughts:
I don't think I missed anything but overall I feel Otz needs a break. It feels like he's burnout and why wouldn't he be? He puts a lot of time and effort into the game and his videos. I need a break between tomes to feel refreshed; if I played DBD all the time I doubt I'd last a year and would quit, though I could say the same for any game.

Trapper: Phantom traps in the next match
Huntress: Phantom lullaby in the next match
Plague: I have a healing challenge on
-
I'm one of those people that thinks it's alright for some killers to be left weak; like say Trapper for example. He's hardly the best and that's okay. I think he's still in a fine spot where he is.
I'll go through every killer and give my current opinions. Also for the record, I'd never say no to QoL or minor updates for killers I think are in a good spot.
Killers that need changes
Nurse: Spasmodic Breath being basekit. This nerfs her a lot while basically keeping her the same. Hot take I know.
Blight: Add-on nerfs which are happening.
Pyramid Head: Add-on update. Torment bar instead of it being instant, hitting his ranged attack gives X amount of torment.
Nemi: Add-on update; preferably stuff that buff the tentacle and Karen/Kevin in different ways.
Trickster: Minor number tweaks until they get that sweet spot. PTB was too much while current is too little.
Shape: Tombstone nerf, stalk slowly recharges on survivors. Would also enjoy a minor power rework; debuffs on stalked survivors, ability to swap to tier 1, tier 1 buffs, etc.
Hillybilly: Add-on update and overheat looked at/removed.
Pig: Slightly buffed dash, recoverable bear traps.
Freddy: Let him have both powers and be swappable like Clown.
Killers that are fine or only need minor QoL
Spirit, Wesker, Plague, Oni, Artist, Huntress, Demo, Ghostface, Dredge, Pinhead, Hag, Bubba, Doctor, Singularity, Wraith, Legion, Clown, Trapper.
Killers I am unsure about
Chucky: Haven't played against enough/as to form a decent opinion.
Xeno: I think they should be slightly changed but I'm not really sure how.
Onyro: I don't really know how to feel about her.
Knight: I also don't know how to feel about them.
Twins: I have no idea how to make them better.
Skull Merchant: I have yet to play against her since the changes.
-
As other comments have said, it's more a player thing then a perk thing. Just like not all Self Care users are Claudette's hiding in a corner.
I use it in a 2-man and it's a fantastic info perk for normal games.
-
Do you have crossplay on? Because if not then yeah, you'll be waiting ages.
Otherwise just join the bonus BP queue for quick matches.
-
I'm on PS5 and outside of when you first start the game, I think the loading times are fine.
Most matches load quickly enough. I'd actually enjoy if they did the DRG thing where you could see the loading times for each person. It'd give something to look at while waiting.
-
That is how the bots work.
Bot's have wallhacks and can't be mindgamed so they're only good for basic practice. I'd use them to get a feel for the power and after that switch to real people to learn the rest.
Playing against bots with Chucky feels awful because half the fun is confusing people with your size which doesn't work on them.
-
Piece is a lot better. Getting an early kill is gg in most cases and it needs less stalk.
Perma t3 is basically a weaker Plague with Coup/Superior Anatomy. It's not bad but not as good as Piece IMO.
-
Sorry, I'm confused. Why would they be throwing pallets and getting the killers attention when they need to be far away for this challenge?
-
That I currently have all of them!
Except repair the shelter woods gen because my map offering luck is absurd and when I do get it, it's a mega slowdown Nurse. T_T
-
Don't forget the PlayStation price hike we got as well! Can't wait to see all the good monthly games were gonna get. -_-
-
I saw a streamer that was 62-63. I watched them for a few games and they were a pretty chill dude talking to chat a lot. Skill level wise they were very average though. Like, not looking behind them in chase, getting spun as killer multiple times, etc. They still had a lot of fun playing which is rather amazing for that many hours.
-
Franklins
I love it so much~

Maybe, but isn‘t it, that you get the progress after he picks you up again.
No, it's right when he goes to drop you, not when he picks you back up.
-
I get annoyed when it happens but I also understand why some of them do it; the edge cases.
I had a solo queue game yesterday against a Blight on Father Campbells. He tunneled right off the bat and was fairly decent; not the best I've seen but they knew what they were doing with their rush.
He got a 4k at the end but there was only one gen left and that last gen was almost done multiple times while it being a 3 gen. If the Blight didn't tunnel off the bat and secure a 3-gen after that he would have likely lost hard.
Hell, I was messing around doing the chest challenge for some of it and had a really really bad second chase. If I played better or wasn't doing my challenge they still might have lost even with tunneling and a 3-gen.
Now, I don't get teams like that a lot in solo queue but it's because of those teams that some killers feel the need to tunnel so early.
Other times they just want to crush people hard for the sense of satisfaction. Some people enjoy destroying their opponents.

Glad to hear you found what you were looking for.
Thanks!
I also learned a valuable lesson about impulse posting. 😙
-
The killer probably tried to drop you. Dropping a survivor adds 25% to the wiggle meter so if you were at 75% it would just break you free.
-
The forum has a spam filter as well. I'm not sure if it works on post count or active time on the forums but editing a post can flag it as spam until one of mods unflags it.
-
Not the biggest issue but the most annoying one for me is the instant skill-check when leaving a gen. It should work like Overcharge where you still get a pop-up.
-
If were talking forum bugs am I the only one whose twitter side bar thing doesn't work anymore? It's stuck from last year when the AoT skins came out and never updated.
Also the notifications never work for me either. Never even thought to report it.
-
Pig has the DC build; Ultimate Weapon, Hex: FtD, Infectious, 4th perk here with Crate of Gears and Tampered Timer.
Chucky don't got that.
-
The DBD forums aren't really a echo chamber type of community where you'll only see like-minded opinions and support.
If someone makes a post like "Nurse is the strongest killer in the game." people aren't really going to interact all that much. People know Nurse is the strongest and there's no need to echo that statement any further. In fact it's sometimes the opposite in that people might get annoyed that the obvious keeps getting brought up.
If someone makes a post saying "Nurse is the worst the killer in the game." then you'll have more people commenting because now there is something to talk about.
Finally if someone makes a post saying "Get gud scrubs I won 100 games in a row with no slowdown scratched mirror Myers." you'll probably have a ton of interaction for various reasons.
-
Many people said tanking MMR but they could also be farming XP. XP is based on time in the match and nothing else so if they're trying to catch up on the rift they could be doing that.
They got rid of AFK farming for XP so anyone that wants to do that now has to at least move around a bit which sound like what they're doing.
Edit: As below mentioned, you also get shards from XP farming.

Unfortunately dialog like that will never make it into the game. BHVR Censorship is to strong 🤣
Trickster drops a ######### once in a while! We can hope~

Stranger Things pt.2 seems like a much bigger chance now and the likely candidate.
Predator was a strong possibility but I'm leaning more towards ST now. As mentioned above it'd be pretty weird to bring ST back right before a chapter release and have the killer not be related. It'd take massive hype away from the chapter while a pt.2 would only bring extra hype.
Saw pt.2 is still unlikely, the posts were almost certainly because of the movie.
I don't think it's FNAF. BHVR has never done a movie/Killer release in tandem. First time for everything I guess but still seems unlikely for this chapter.
Other Big L movies are Jason, IT, Candyman and Chucky which we have no reason to believe.
Indie wise there is Slender and Amnesia which again we have no reason to believe.
Bigger game wise there is RE pt.3 and maybe Fatal Frame? I'm not actually sure how popular that series is; only that there is a bunch of games. Again all unlikely.
I'm probably missing a few more big L's but that's most of the hot choices from memory.
My first guess now is ST pt.2 followed by Predator as my second choice. Everything else seems unlikely with what we know at least.
-
Someone else brought it up but I wonder if that 6 blades for main event is a typo and is instead supposed to be 16* blades. Basically halving the amount we currently have seems more likely of a change then a simple six blades, it just seems like a crazy buff otherwise.
You'd literally get Main Event in every single chase, especially with the 2 add-ons.
-
Kinda concerned with how little it'll take to get Main Event, especially if you use the 2 add-ons. I feel like he's going to be very oppressive combined with that extra speed. Everything else seems nice though and I'm looking forward to watching some gameplay.
Camping with him got buffed so I'm sure there will be many complaints on PTB release and he'll likely be nerfed after all is said and done. Overall it's nice to see some buffs for him though.
I think other killers needed buffs before him but again, still nice.

I open my game and get this...I haven't even played at all today and it says I reported Harassment even though the Date Of Action is today when I never went on until now. Is this a bug?
I think the date of action is when they banned the person, not when you reported it?
I've never used the new system so I'm only guessing here.

Why? Does the white ward not work if the killer runs FD?
It does not, unless that changed recently with the item update which I don't believe it did. Pretty common for white ward survivors to DC when hit or start locker hopping like you were a Tombstone Myers. It's pretty funny actually.
-
I use lightborn with 4 flashlights as well but otherwise I'll use Franklins. No feeling quite like seeing a white ward when running Franklins.
-
She's on the weaker side of killers and could use some minor buffs but there are certainly worse killers.
Most Pigs from my games used a Face the Darkness build for massive delay and head pops. It's been a long while since I've seen a Pig but that build is certainly...something.
You can google the build or maybe someone who plays Pig a lot could explain it. It might be a newb stomper build for all I know as I almost never play her.
-
I'd actually prefer people to use BP offerings while I use a event one. I'm not sure if they're bugged or they multiply weird but you get a ton of BP that way. I got like 150k just on the end game screen alone.

I just got it as Survivor but I think it's busted. I was playing as Nancy and released a Haunt. Mikela ended up running into it and absorbed the void energy. For some reason when The Huntress hung Ada Wong on a hook, I got the completed challenge notice.
Weird. When I did mine it was easy. I released 3 of them and then as I was chasing a survivor they ran into one and it gave it to me.
Did you release multiple of them and one happened to be near the hook when the killer went there, because that would count.
-
Pretty easy as killer. Just get a little over half the bar and wait for the portals to open. Go in and use all of it on the ghosts and then just play. Having three or four ghosts out makes it very likely someone will run into one.
-
It won't happen for obvious reasons but I'd still love to see it along with a water themed map. They go the Diglett route for the shark and it'd be great!

I don't know what they do or how to get them or even that they existed until now but I have 445 of them so I feel smugly superior now to anyone with a lower point value than me!
I also have 445 points. Let us be smug together.

You kinda have to hope that survivors are a bit potatoish, so lowering your MMR helps a lot... however you can brute for it to a degree. Can't remember who posted this build, but credit to them whoever they were.
PWYF, Agitation, Iron Grasp and Corrupt Intervention, and the 2 iri add-ons.
The Game is pretty good for this, as you can take people to the gates and drop them off the ledge off your left shoulder so you can catch them before getting to hatch or lockers. Once you get the first 2 out, you can slug one player and go for the last (hopefully the obsession to get your last stack back), then carry the last to a dead zone and try to finish them off.
I actually got in on RPD, but that's the principle. I got super lucky and got it on my first attempt cause I got players who were really not good... but this build helped a lot, and the fact players can DC now and leave a bot makes this A LOT easier to get.
That's most likely my build if you saw it on the forums as I haven't seen anyone else post that strategy besides me. Glad it worked out for you and I'm happy to see the build floating around!
To OP, moris off the ground do not count. They have to be killed via the add-ons.
The above quoted strat is probably your best bet as you can easily brute force it once you get a group that isn't great. Against normal+ teams it can be tough since you're Myers on The Game and have to go through a ton of pallets but an early kill can be the difference even against better teams.
Best of luck to you!
-
I'd personally like to see Chucky but it's most likely going to be Predator.
-Predator is a Big L chapter and they stated this one would be
-Owned by the same company and often seen and referenced together
-One of the Alien skins we got was from AvP
It'd be a pretty big shock if it wasn't Predator.
-
I feel like your biggest issue is simply burnout judging from these quotes.
I used to devote almost all my free time to this game. I was addicted and it was all I could think of. I streamed on Twitch literally only this game. I couldn't picture getting into another game, even when this one was going bad. However...I've gone from playing at least 3 hours a day..to 2 matches (max) a day. It's all I can tolerate, and even that is barely..barely tolerable.
As I stated, I've spent thousands of hours in DBD and a disgusting amount of money on cosmetics (I love cosmetics! No shame! I will probably keep buying them..but will it keep me playing? No.) But the game is zero fun. Zero fun sounds like such a dumbed down comment, but honestly that's what it is. A complete lack of fun..and most people play games to have..fun
If you're playing any game that much you'll get sick of it. It's important to takes breaks so you can come back refreshed. I've been playing since Clowns release and have many times gotten sick of DBD but after taking a month or so break and coming back, it feels much better.
The rifts right now are perfect for that. I play maybe an hour or so a day, only working on rift challenges, play a little extra during 2x XP or 2x RF and I'm normally 85 with 2 weeks to spare. I then don't play DBD at all until the next rift giving me about a month off and this has felt amazing. Back when the rift first came out, I almost quit DBD multiple times because of how much I had to play in order to max it out, it was simply too much.
Before TCM (there I said it) came out..there was no other horror game that could touch this one. Evil Dead was big, but short lived, it was a different vibe than DBD..therefore not any real competition. Without the threat of something better replacing it, it was incapable of dying. However..90% of my free gaming time, now goes to TCM. It has a DBD vibe, except with WAY less toxicity and sadly, no super cool cosmetics. But still much more positive. Whenever I check my friends list and Twitch streamer list..almost all of the ones who used to be in DBD are all in TCM. I don't think it's a phase. I don't think it will die out.
It's the new thing, of course you're going to wanna play it. Same with other content creators and people in general. Whether it sticks or not is still up in the air and with voice chat, I'd argue it has a lot more potential for Toxicity then DBD does. Maybe not right now but over time it's something to watch out for.
IMO- Bhvr only caters to SWF's. Not everyone has the time or capability or social desire to want to only play this game in a SWF. SoloQ is disgusting. 99% of matches are the same. Survivor instantly sandbags you, Killer tunnels and/or camps you as soon as they see you. Slugging for the 4k at 3 gens. It's a gross situation. I got tunneled directly off hook at 5 gens last time I tried to play, when I messaged the killer after they told me, I was considered "a high priority survivor, to kill immediately. All killers have them." No, I don't have a high priority kill list as killer...and it was such a dumb comment, I didn't even bother responding. I'm not an aggressive or toxic Surv.
This is just plain not true. BHVR "normally" tries to fix the most complained about things and whatever doesn't line up with their data as well as random stuff they probably pulled out of a hat. They do have some stuff coming up for both Killers and Survivors. I'd also wager if you put every Buff/Nerf for both sides on a list, it'll probably be close.
As far the tunneling goes, it's part of the game and while I wish it was different, it's not. If it really is that bad for you then maybe try some different builds to counter it. Put on Off the Record and DS to buy more time or maybe Overcome/Lucky Break to disappear after getting hit. Breakdown/Boil Over and a corner hook to try and stop from getting hooked again. Switch things up and see if it helps, it'd also help keep things fresh by using different builds.
Then the comical part, when playing Killer almost 90% of my teams are the Navy Seals coming up in here to destroy everything, bust out gens faster than you knew was possible and go out of their way to be as disgustingly toxic as possible. What a fun time. People on the forums try to disregard prestige, but fact of the matter is, if you have at least one P100..you definitely invested time (time = experience) in the game. I don't want to load into a killer match with 2/3 P100's every time. And even the ones that are not, are usually experienced Survs playing low level characters so they don't get lobby dodged.
This is a skill issue. You are either playing a low tier killer or you can get better at the killers you play. 99% of your games are not going to be Seal Team 6. You might get rough matches with strong survivors but it's all about how you handle them. Chances are in those games you lose, you probably made some bad mistakes that cost it. Record those matches and look them over, see what you could do better.
Also, while I do agree P100 are generally better then normal, it's hardly a sure fire thing. I saw a streamer who was Devotion 60-ish with multiple 100's and they were the most average survivor I've ever seen. Didn't do check points, didn't look behind them, made a lot of questionable choices in chase. I've also had plenty of P100's in my games who were the worst survivor of the lot. As time goes on P100 becomes less and less useful to determine skill.
The DBD Community is by far the most toxic gaming community I have ever come across, which is unfortunate because at one time I loved this game so much. I know Bhvr can't really help that...the players have no self control, and apparently thrive on toxicity...that is an issue of the very people who love this game, destroying it.
Depends on what you mean by toxic. If you mean in-game things like tbags, camping, etc then I disagree as those things should not be considered toxic. Frowned upon sure but the word Toxic should be saved for generally awful things. EGC which can be toxic should be turned off and Twitter should be avoided at all costs.
If you avoid Twitter and EGC then DBD really isn't all that toxic a community and has gotten better if anything IMO. When I first started playing, I got a lot of messages from salty people saying awful things. Since then, the last actual toxic message I got was like 2 years ago. The most recent thing was a simple. "You suck" because I camped someone to second state. Very tame.
It's just sad that it's in such an unplayable state...it's been stripped of all it's fun, and tbh as much as many people wanted the Alien chapter..I think it was the final nail in the coffin. At this point, idk what could even be done to make this game fun again...as bhvr can only do so much I suppose and players are going to abuse every toxic play style they can to win (on both sides)..and what's sad to me, is I don't mind losing on either side..if i've had a fun match. But you know Bhvr can't even do us the solid of not depipping when we get immediately tunneled out. You work so hard for a pip and can lose it in 20 seconds.
Again, I feel like your biggest issue is simply burnout. Take a break from DBD for a couple months and come back and try to see if any sparks return. Otherwise it might be best to simply move on. Don't let sunk cost fallacy weigh you down.
All just my opinion of course. I wish you the best in finding something you enjoy.
-
Outside of Twitter I don't think the community is even that toxic. There are certainly some bad apples with a following but for the most part it's more of an entitlement problem that plagues DBD and people using the word toxic to describe those problems.
