I am using average as in the description of the player base. Because any time i say anything about how nurse is the only viable killer at high mmr the response i get back is: "those survivor players are rare, the average player isn't experiencing this".

Okay, then I can actually agree with you a bit and this was a semantics mistake on my part.

If you are average you are definitely not going against people intentionally hug teching. Average players are getting nurses who have < 50% kill rate. Average players are massively losing to killers like the pig because they don't know how to deal with traps.

As a follow up are you using average to describe the majority of players in the game or average as a skill level because this might be a semantics issue on my end.

Any survivor who doesn't know what a pig trap is or is getting baby Nurses is more a beginner in my book and not even close to average skill.

If you're using average as a description of the overall playerbase then I can actually agree with you to a degree.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/409548/is-blights-hug-teching-confirmed-to-be-removed

    They said it does somewhere.

And i agree with you. Only really top tier blights were doing hug tech. And only top tier survivors were going against blights using hug tech. In your average game, the blight doesn't even know what hug tech is let alone how to do it. So it wasn't really hurting the average player.

What they did was remove a high kill expression on a killer that would otherwise have very little (yay so he just gets to dash around, you'll never hit anyone with him anymore, may as well just play billy)

It boggles the mind why they continue to nerf these types of things, while all the "survivor techs" are continuously staying in the game, and while nurse continues to exist in the state she is in since her inception. And i say this as a nurse main.

Only point I want to actively disagree with is Hug Tech blights are only going against top tier survivors. I've see quite a few Blights (not all) use hug tech and I assure you I am no top tier survivor but instead very very average.

  • I'd personally put him around high B or low A from my experience.

It's still pretty early though so opinions will certainly change. The teleport is pretty nice and you can get a lot of cheeky hits with his power as well as free zoning in many cases. Seems overall fairly decent.

  • I don't really think that one is too bad if you rat it up. In fact most of the harder trophies can be cheesed in some way.

Item of Obsession: Sole Survivor; to become the obsession, Calm Spirit/Distortion; lower your chance of being found and Wake Up for increased gate opening. Play stupidly safe and even a little ratty if you have to and this one isn't too bad.

Hemophobia: Similar to Item of Obsession. Rat it up and it's not too bad as long as you win the 50/50 map offering.

Left For Dead: Something I just learned is that apparently it doesn't have to be the 5th gen but any gen after your teammates are dead. It makes this challenge a ton easier since you'll have a lot more opportunities. Still hard but a lot more doable.

Evil Incarnate: Not bad at all if you use the backpack strat on Meat Plant. I'd even consider it easy.

From The Void: Can be farmed.

Do X using Y: Usually time consuming but easy. Skilled Huntress is probably the most difficult IMO.

Other Misc: Also normally more time consuming then hard. Things like Bless You, Outbreak Breakout and Taking One for the Team can be especially time consuming.

With my recent discovery of Left For Dead not needing to be the 5th gen, I don't think there are any stupidly difficult trophies anymore. Just time waster ones.

Skilled Huntress is the hardest for killer and honestly, Item of Obsession/Left For Dead are probably tied for survivor. Though I'd still consider Left For Dead a bit harder. If they remove the "any gen" and make it have to be the 5th gen like most people think then by far that'll be the hardest survivor one.

Congrats on the achievements! I have nearly 100% myself. I'm only missing some from this current chapter and do the Shelter Woods gen. Map offerings are not kind too me and even when I do get the map, it just doesn't work out. :/

  • Console player here.

I had a killer message me that they were apparently upset I t-bagged them after they tunneled someone out at 5 gens. During the match they slugged and humped me for the 4 minutes. I thought it was pretty funny tbh. I got what I deserved apparently.

I also had a guy get mad at me for hiding when he was slugging for the 4k. It was only me and a bot left which I was leaving to die to try for hatch. The killer eventually picked the bot and let them wiggle and spent like 5-ish more minutes looking for me. I also got humped but only a quick-y this time.

Oddly enough both of these matches were Doctors and happened back to back just last week. I thought it was the same person at first but nope, just two angry Doctors. What's also odd is these are the first salty messages I've gotten from a killer in a long while. Normally it's other survivors sending angry messages.

Speaking of, I had a guy get super upset I popped a 99'd gen which caused a 3-gen; though we all ended up making it out anyways. Best part is it wasn't even me that popped the 99'd gen but my friend I was playing with. Also not the first time I've had someone yell at me for something my buddy did but that's the most recent one from memory.

I actually enjoy getting salty messages tbh. There's just something funny about seeing someone really let off the steam over DBD. Like I understand getting mad in the moment and sending a hate message but sometimes the messages are just hysterical. Like, some people simply take this game way too seriously.

Edit: Another one came to mind. I had a twitch streamer and her friends call "Iron Grasp" sweaty and try hard. Though TBF to them I was playing Wraith and they had gone against a few that night doing basement builds and were kind of sick of it. It was pretty funny watching the vod back and see them lose it over Iron Grasp. They were pretty nice overall though and nothing toxic was said; just really pissed at Iron Grasp Wraith.

Edit 2: I remembered one more and this'll be my last one. It was couple years ago; back when BBQ still gave BP. I had a streamer get rather upset I didn't let her hook me for the final stack and just kept running away and hiding. She didn't message me directly or anything since she was PC but she did go off about me to her chat for like 10 minutes on how people like me were awful and ruining the game. Again, all because I didn't let her hook me for her last BBQ stack. I actually think I made a post on the forums about this one but I can't quite remember.

ok I don't play killer much and I'm new but what is this auto aim? Doesn't sound legit. Just saying

This a quote from 2019 but still applies.

    Aim Dressing.png

Basically, the game detects you got a hit but the system that makes the animation line up and look pretty messes up and forces you into an object instead; which will deny the hit.

  • 🤓 Um actually, it's called aim dressing, not auto aim.

In seriousness though it feels the exact same to me. No better or worse then normal.

  • I noticed that as well. The leftovers are going to be converted to BP after the event so I'm guessing it's there to give a little extra BP after the event ends. Assuming it's more then a 1:1 ratio of course.

  • On one positive note you don't need to do every challenge this time around to get all the rewards which is nice. You get 250 trinkets left over which as long as you get to the end lets you skip 5 challenges if you're pressed for time.

I would have enjoyed an extension just for more BP but I don't really mind all that much.

  • All this proves is Distressing, Beast of Prey and Thrill are OP!!

I mean come on, look at all those Bloodpoints! SMH!

The entire point behind accessibility features is that we should advocate for changes to help parts of the playerbase who may not be the majority. The majority of players aren't colourblind, yet we got colourblind filters after years of asking because it's just good practice. The majority of players don't get motion sick from the 87 degree FOV, but we've finally gotten a first person FOV slider for those who do.

    BHVR is a company

BHVR is a privately owned company, meaning there aren't shareholders to please. If they so desired, they could absolute dedicate more resources to accessibility features and QOL improvements instead of churning out new chapters every 3 months (at a minimum, this year was awful for aggressive monetisation). But instead they've decided to monetise monetise monetise, capitalising on FOMO and releasing as many chapters as seems physically possible while continuing to keep the game functional.

BHVR absolutely could take a break from the content release cycle and focus on accessibility and QOL. Hell, the previous lead-UX designer for DBD apparently fought tooth and nail for as much accessibility as she could, and responded to the release of the FOV slider after she left with something along the lines of "Do you guys ever see a system you made 3 years ago go live only after you leave?" This is definitive, in my mind, that BHVR absolutely could and are actively choosing not to.

And if money really was such a massive problem, maybe they shouldn't have purchased several smaller game studios and opened a new office in Canada last year. But they did, and so clearly they can't be so strapped for cash that they stop catering to the majority of the playerbase.

We really should get to a point where accessibility features are a standard, not something we have to spend years begging for (like the FOV slider + colourblind mode). Struggle changes were nice, wiggle changes were nice, colourblind mode was nice (but NVIDIA's filters are more effective for me, so I still use those), and the current FOV slider is nice. But there's so much more they could be doing and, at this point, have to be actively deciding not to.

    And it just sucks.

As for your comparison between scientific papers + BHVR, I don't feel the two are particularly equivalent, but I can see where you're coming from. It's a lot harder to translate scientific papers into braille, different languages, and make colourblind variants of them than it is to do so in a video game, and while I would love for both (trust me, if there was an ADHD version of the papers on Germanic constitutional law I've studdied recently I would be jumping for joy) I feel like the argument is less effective than ideal when it's so much easier to do so in a video game.

How would we do it for Spirit, for example? Easy. Remove the reliance on audio entirely, phasing sound goes back to being non-directional and doesn't change at all regardless of how close she is. Instead, we revisit the idea they had during the first PTB when she dropped, the little dust clouds that appear on the floor when she phases. They should be subtle and periodic, but frequent enough to be of use. When phasing, Spirit can no longer hear grunts of pain (she still hears regular breathing), but to compensate Survivors who run also leave a dust trail that Spirit can see. This effectively substitues all of her audio ques for visual ques, which would help transform her from such a hard of hearing nightmare, and also be accessible to those who play on less than sub-optimal headsets and equipment. The £4k headset is no longer as much of an advantage as it once was, and people playing through their TV speakers now stand more of a chance alongside those who are physically impaired.

I don't get how things always move so slowly with this game. Genuinely, it absolutely baffles me.

I disagree with removing the audio mindgames from the Spirt. Using sound instead of sight to try and pinpoint her location while deciding your next move is one of the more fun things about facing her IMO.

If audio accessibility were to be added for her I would rather it work similar to the heartbeat icon. Maybe have a little highlight to show the general direction of noise.

    VisualTerrorRadius_beatingHeart 1.png

Something like that but it only applies to loud noises the killer makes. Like kicking gens/pallets, missed swings, or the Spirit phasing.

  • No idea but I'm never really that excited for the anniversary killers since they usually end up kind meh while the chapter after the anniversary is normally a banger. My opinion of course.

    • Anniversary Killers: Clown, Ghostface, Pyramid Head, Nemesis, Dredge, Singularity

Clown, Dredge and Singularity are just kind of there. Pyramid Head/Nemesis majorly need add-on and QoL stuff while Ghostface is in a good spot.

    • Chapter After: Spirit, Demo, Blight, Pinhead, Wesker, Alien

Spirt/Blight are top rated killers. Demo/Wesker are widely loved by the community. Alien is just kind of there and Pinhead is generally hated.

If I had to choose I'd take the second list easily over the first. Going back to the original topic, comparing the license vs original of the first list I think I rather have another license. I do like Ghostface and would love Nemesis/Pyramid head if they had some help. All the originals I found kind of meh and Clown is my favorite of that list.

Edit: Accidently hit post comment. T_T

  • Because there are 35 killers.

I just saw a couple Chuckys yesterday and haven't seen a Wesker in like a week. Just how it goes sometimes.

  • Yeah, I wasn't trying to say otherwise, just deja vu from other threads like this. I hope your future matches go well! ^_^

  • image.png

Please excuse my bad paint job.

So survivor hitboxes are pill shaped (not cuboid like my drawing, 3d is hard) and when standing still cover the entire survivor and a little above. When running the hitbox is pushed back a bit to about the survivors crotch and to around the furthest ankle. What this means is that the hit box trails behind the survivor a bit.

The Huntress hatches are more spherical in shape covering the entire hatchet and the air around it.

So now when we look at your screenshot, that is a miss even with my drawing. However the game prioritizes killer interactions and then when including latency, that spherical hitbox most likely just clipped the top back part resulting in the hit. This is more a latency issue then anything else.

I'm also getting major déjà vu and feel like I've seen this exact screenshot before.

  • I would love if they brought something like this back. Just some kind of little interaction thing in the forums would be neat.

If were talking forum nostalgia I think I miss @Orion the most. I enjoyed reading their PoV on most subjects here.

Champion of light is the only survivor perk that applies Hindered to the killer, Im not sure if the slowdown of Chemical trap classifies as Hindered since anywhere on the perk its stated that the effect is the Hindered effect, just a 50% slowdown.

You can also get this by playing against Clown. I'm not sure if it's when he reloads or throws but I got my challenge done before I even saw the killer. Might have also been bugged for all I know.

If it wasn't bugged then it might also apply to other killers who slow down when using their power. Not really sure.

The zones almost half the time don't cover the area of the map where you are performing an action

    That's not what theyr'e saying.

The bloodzones don't matter and you don't need to interact to get any of the flat bonus BP. The percentage increase is actually huge since now when it's at 400%, if everyone uses streamers or the equivalent, you'll get a whopping 900% increase.

You don't have to interact in the event at all to get massive BP.

That said I do agree the zones should be a little bigger. They feel rather small at the moment.

    Edit: Spelling.

  • Seed editor or at least being able to save seeds you've played on. This would help out comp a ton. I remember seeing a screenshot many years back showing the map seed system.

Other then that, being able to play removed stuff would be cool.

  • I do find it kind of hilarious Momo was doing name changes all stream and happened to get "snipe me plz" for the sniped match.

Momo also lost his Oni streak as well which was at 600 something.

In a way it's sad to see such streaks end but at the same time, these kind of streaks should never have happened in the first place.

  • I'd also like a source for it never coming back. They said none this year but not that it was permanently gone; unless I missed the tweet and or response.

  • I haven't played a lot of matches but he feels fine so far. Kinda like Clown in that his projectile is pretty forgiving.

Ok so dbd wasn't my first priority, I have done nothing but meet with insurance people, get basic necessities for my family, try to get things in order that I can at the moment and have cried alot. I was sitting in the waiting room while my son was in a appointment and figured I would just ask the question while I had a free minute there. Also there's only so much I can do in a day while sitting in a hotel room since I have no where to go while my insurance works on things.

I'm sorry I even commented about it now but it was just such a surreal thing to read having helped family go through it as well.

Again mate, I wish you the best and hope things work out well for you.

Dudes home burned down, I bet Dbd would be a nice way to get your mind off the bad thoughts. Sometimes sticking to a routine is a coping mechanism in a time of trouble

I mean, there's nothing wrong with it since people handle these things differently, it just weirded me out.

My brother lost his house to a fire and he didn't touch a game for months even though he was a heavy gamer and had ample ability to. He spent a ton of time cleaning up, recovering what could be recovered, setting up a community fundraiser and trying to set up things for the future. Gaming was the last thing on his mind. Again, nothing wrong with it what OPs asking, it just weirded me out.

Basic human empathy would lead you to be more compassionate in this situation.

They just had a terrible event happen to them and are looking for a form of escapism, there's no need for judgement, let them enjoy what they want to enjoy.

I've had close family go through the same thing as I posted in my story above. The casual attitude weirded me the hell out man. I wish OP all the best with what they're going through having helped my Brother go through it before. It's a really rough thing.

I know everyone handles loss differently and does different things to cope but it just felt so surreal reading it I couldn't help but comment on it.

  • Yes it'll all be there as long as you use the same PS account.

It kind of weirds me out you're even asking this when your house just burnt a couple days ago. Very weird priority issue IMO but either way I wish you best with what you're going through.

I've had close family go through it as well and it's rough. Again, I wish you the best.

  • I've got like 40k shards so yeah. I think I will.

  • Yes it's fine because while these win streaks are impressive they're not that impressive because of the skill gap. I'd be much more impressed seeing these killers go on even a 50 win streak against other comp players then pubs.

Putting it another way, if you put me as killer against a decent survivor comp team I bet I'd lose 1000 games in a row. This also applies to basically any game ever if you take top players and put them vs casuals.

If the MMR isn't tight enough then this stuff will happen. The MMR is as loose as it is to prioritize speed as back when they were doing the tests, most people disliked the longer queues with closer matches and preferred the faster queues instead.

  • According to a color thing I randomly found on google, it's mostly these colors

    • Shiraz on top
    • Paprika/Wine Red throughout the middle
    • Maroon on bottom

With a few others here and there like Cab Sav and Rose Red.

  • @tippy2k2 said:

I generally will do that if the killer is in the area and clearly wants the hits (if they just stand there or if they're not at the gate, I just go).

However I will say as a survivor, I've had to become wary of killers as well when I give them the hits because a lot of killers have figured out how to be cheeky with it. If they hit you from the side, they have a chance to pick you up (since you fall sideways instead of our of the gate).

That's not illegal or whatever but I imagine many people just leave without letting the killer get any hits for that reason.

Just in case you didn't know you can Emote before being hit to cancel the downing animation so you won't get knocked to the side or backfliped. The killer could always wait the Emote out to try and time a hit but I've personally never seen anyone do this.

  • No?

Glyphs are fine and rather easy. Green and White glyphs especially for the extra points.

They're much better then some of the challenges like stay within x-meters of the killer for x-seconds. I'd actually say they are my favorite challenges to do since they don't require you to do anything special besides run around to find them. You'll be running around anyway so they're some of the least offensive challenges IMO.

  • I really wanted to make a copypasta of this using Scratched Mirror but I refrained lol.

On topic, yes. Play and get good at info only Nurse or the other top tiers. You obviously won't win every game but you will be able to do it now and again.

  • Yup, just played a couple matches today and had a few nice curves; also on controller. I had one around one of those big rocks on Eyrie as well as a 180 through one of the doors at main.

Also had a couple nice curves through the doors on Lerys.

I'm also not great at Billy either. Most of the time I just let go while pushing the stick and hope for the best.

If these changes feel this good for a bad Billy like me I can see while all the good Billy's are over the moon.

  • Most likely salty or just caught them in a bad time. Saying GG is not toxic in the least and if you want to do so, then do it. Don't worry about how they're going to take it when you're just trying to be nice.

About the only times I wouldn't say GG right away is if it was an absolute massive curbstomp. I would lead first with "That was a rough map" or that play at shack nearly made me ######### myself! or some other line/excuse to give them an out and or to make them feel better if they happen to be salty. After that you can chit chat for sec and then drop a GLHF next instead of GG. I've found this usually goes over better then a flat GG and can even help some people defuse.

If you still get banned then role your eyes and move on. They weren't worth the time.

Don't let one bad apple ruin the bunch though. If you wanna try to be nice then try and be nice.

  • There won't be any real consensus because people will feel very differently on this depending on the situation.

Just do what you want to do and don't worry about it. If you wanna give hatch to be nice or reward a good player then do it. If you're worried people might be salty then do it anyway. If you're really really bothered by it then just don't do. Don't over think it and just do as you please.

  • Slinger and shooting into the dark. It's hilarious and I love it.

  • On my farming killers, I'll usually 8-hook and then just mess around until the survivors catch on I'm not actually trying to kill them. After that I'll farm if they want or I'll continue to mess around.

Sometimes though people let go or don't get saved and I'm left with two survivors. If it's still at 5 gens I'll just kill one of them but if a couple gens are done I'll still mess around.

Sometimes I also lose track of hook states and I kill someone on accident. :/

I don't force people to farm either. If they point at the hook I'll kill them and if they want to sit on the gens and get out then I let them. I know not everyone likes farming so I always play a normal game up to 8 hooks first. Get some excitement in and then chill.

I never farm from the start though unless the entire team is in on it; like I come across a train of urban evaders sort of thing.

  • No it's not. A lot of people are entitled with how you should play the game certain ways but not really toxic.

Most of the time when someone brings up actual DBD toxicity it's from Twitter. Twitter is a cesspool of awful and should not be counted as part of the community.

  • Billy's not too bad on console. He's hard to control but you can still do curves and stuff. I don't think you can do that one pallet break 180 trick but that'll probably be patched out eventually anyway. He's a great killer but he's really hard to learn and that applies to PC/Console both.

I also feel Nurse difficulty is very overexaggerated on console; she's really not that bad. Trickster is probably the hardest console killer and about the only one I'd consider "unplayable".

  • I'd play against the bots for a couple games learning the basics to get a feel for the saw and messing with add-ons to see what you like. Don't even play play either, just get a feel for the saw. After that I'd do a few practice things like feathering around loops and curves like shack that'd you use in most games. You don't have to be great at them but that makes a nice base to practice in normal matches.

After that I'd do 1 or 2 bot matches then go into public games. The bots are great for basics but that's it. I played with them a few times learning basic Billy myself and they will pinpoint accurate dodge your saw from a small distance. In fact, if you can backrev a bot you can backrev a player a lot easier in most cases, not all but most.

I actually think bot matches with Billy are harder then normal matches at a lower level if you're only using the saw. Best of luck learning and try to keep expectations reasonable. One doesn't become a good Billy player overnight.

I'm still a pretty bad Billy though so take all this with a grain of salt. It's just what I did when I started playing him a couple months ago.

  • Embrace Switch Pain does have a nice ring to it though~

  • I believe in one of the dev streams or maybe a Q&A they said they tried but it was a no go. Don't quote me on that though.

Since we got Chucky now, Scooby Doo is my most wanted crossover for sure. I do like the in-game alteratives the video used though!

  • It's not so much the heights are wrong but what you see and what the survivor sees are different.

As killer, the camera isn't at head height and is actually more towards the chest on most killers. Blight when he first released was a more noticeable example of this as his camera was more at his crotch.

You can take a friend in to see this when looking at the dummy. I'm betting most if not all cases they'll say your head is higher then where your camera is.

Boundary break did an episode on DBD showing this off as well sort of.

    https://youtu.be/Es2PH4GDLCc?t=204

It because the camera difference that you also get weird shadows. Myers has a very noticeable and funny one.

    Screenshot 2024-01-23 231125.png

So again, the height thing is more what the survivor sees and not so much the killer but I wouldn't be surprised if even on the survivor end there was some heights that were wrong.

  • Slug them all and nod as they bleedout is what I normally do.

I had a team way back using double exponential/boil over on the 3rd floor of RPD when that was still a thing. They sat up in the corner and I kept downing them over and over again; nodding all the while. They'd get up and nod back before being downed. ######### was hilarious and I got a <3 from one of them after the game.

The best part of Bully squads is that you're usually not on a time limit. No one is doing gens so you can sit back, relax and just meme around without having to worry about losing.

    I love squads like that.

  • I've had that one a couple times before. A nice little spot.

My favorite rare spot though is the Gen above the bathroom on The Game. That one is wild.

  • The Banana Splits Horror Movie because it would send FNAF fans into a frenzy.

Edit: I'd also take Willy's Wonderland.

  • They're a fantastic idea from a dev perspective. It's extra incentive to play more then a person otherwise would.

From a personal perspective I also feel the exact same. They give me more reason to stay and play by giving me something extra to do.

I can say with some confidence if not for the challenges I would have left this game years ago even though I'm having fun. They keep it just fresh enough for me to want to stay.

  • Some are good, some are bad, some are meme-y and others are bait.

Half the fun sometimes is trying to figure out which type they are and then go from there.

  • I'd personally say The Lab is the worst map.

  • There are a few placements I personally disagree with.

Legion: Lower. They are one of the simplest killers in the game right along with Myers. The only thing you need to learn as Legion is how to not get spun.

Wraith: Lower. Outside of the lunging at pallets, there is almost nothing to learn with this killers kit.

Nemi: Maybe one higher. While his power is very simple there are quite a few interesting spots to learn where you can and can't hit with the whip which takes time to get a grasp of. You also have to learn all the spots you can drag the whip. As well as when you should or shouldn't use the whip in the first place.

Spirit: Lower. The only thing you really need to learn is survivor sounds. Her power itself it fairly simple to understand. I'd actually say she's probably the killer to get the highest results with for the least effort if you're good at tracking sounds. She's one of the most debatable though since it does all come down to your headset and how good a person is at tracking sounds.

Nurse: Lower. She has the hardest starting learning curve since no other killer has kit like hers but it's not that bad to learn compared to others.

Singularity: Higher. I'd put him up there with Billy. He's super complicated and requires quite a bit of map and game knowledge to get the best use out of his kit.

Everything else is either close enough or I agree with.
