  • When people who are not getting paid to make the game have more precise/clear/efficient/balanced ideas than the ACTUAL CREATORS of the game, that is when you should all know how things will typically play out... In DBD's case... It's usually a ######### show..

  • @Meg_Survivor said:

All day today playing as Mikaela i have been camped and tunneled EVERY SINGLE GAME! Like idk what yal killers have against mikaela like really...is it boons??? or what and even a felix player i was playing with knew i was getting tunneled because he even took a hit for me, btw its a camping tunneling Huntress....you see all these other survivors running around me and you still come for me like im not understanding killers hate for Mikaela like #########, and the felix that helped me even disconnected because after i died Huntress started tunneling him. This needs to stop honestly

Blame the terrible "Boon Totem" idea as a whole and the fact that the Killer has no meaningful counter play to them other than to temporarily delay them. If Killers could DESTROY/CRUSH the Totems, nobody would be bitching.... The problems are right there. The developers just like to take their sweet time and overly discuss things that have been obvious since....forever..

  • NOED gets so much hate because the majority of Survivor players are man children or actual children. That's it. I would make NOED a base mechanic in the game to teach people to never leave a single Totem on the map. NOED being removed as a perk and being made into an actual mechanic you have to play around EACH AND EVERY time is what the devs SHOULD do. People wouldn't be complaining as much if they knew going in every time that the Killer will one shot you if all gens are completed and there is still a Totem up.

  • Most of the time, playing Killer in DBD is like selecting a harder difficulty in any game. That is all.

  • They do play the game that they created. They do not play it well enough to ACTUALLY BALANCE it though, no.

  • Whatever the majority of people play in the game will always be the OP side. This should be obvious. Survivors will always have it easier due to the majority of the player base playing the "Survivor" role. The Survivor bias is and has been clear for awhile.

  • Deathslingers nerf was horrendous. They took away the good "FEEL" of the character. That is something you just don't do. They should have come up with some other idea to change his play style, because now he feels like complete ass to play as. Aiming slowly just sucked the last bit of decency out of that Killer. Hillbilly on the other hand has always had a good "feel" to him IMO.

  • No you are not the only one. Killer is hard mode majority of the time. That is how DBD is these days.

  • Trickster has a good "feel" to how he plays though. I would rather every Killer "feel" good than be strong. Deathslinger just got the barely decent "feeling" taken away from him. He plays like trash now with that slow aim.

Updated graphics won't make the game any scarier... people will get used to that. Games are scary when you let them be scary and when they have genuine surprises

The most appealing part of horror games are the look. How DBD made it this far with the terrible graphics/optimization it has is just BHVR getting lucky that it has the fan base it does. Of course that is a huge generalization about scary games, but the graphics/pacing will hit the hardest up front. Over time people become less sensitive to anything. That obviously goes without saying. My point still stands.

  • That is something that the dev team needs to really work on. THE FEEL of the Killers. Trickster is a perfect example. He feels amazing to play as, but I can say with upmost certainty that Deathslinger feels like complete doggy dump to play as now. That slow aiming has a HORRIBLE feeling to it. Keep ruining the Killers and you'll keep ruining the game.

  • Completely agree. It surprises me that they didn't just rework him. Any Killer that has a SLUGGISH FEELING to anything in their movement just feels terrible to play as. The survivors can do all this fast 360 unrealistic movement to throw Killers forced perspective off, but as soon as the Killer can do something too fast like "aim a gun and shoot" it has to be hit...

  • Dead by Daylight can't be scary as long as they keep the current graphical look the same. They need to just get this game out of Unreal Engine 4. Would be quite a bit of work, but it'd be worth the effort. The games unrealistic lighting/shading not to mention the pacing of the matches and map design is just poor. A scarier game requires more build-up for scares. DBD is just goofy. I don't think the devs want this game to be scary at all.

Being looked into is reasonable- only part I'm shooting down is the part that obviously wouldn't work.

I agree with you on the lacklustre animation, for what it's worth.

I appreciate it. :D I just can't agree with the idea of "this/that can't work" toward anything. Very pessimistic view on any subject material, because obviously anything CAN work. The minds perceiving it though? That is a different question.

Hey, I'm not using it as leverage. Just answering your assertion that it's survivor bias.

Almost like we can disagree without it being an "us vs them" factional thing, huh?

Nah. Just typical of people on these forums. Anyway my opinion stands. I just want it to be looked into. No sense in trying to shoot down every single thing I put forward other than to aimlessly debate.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2579842#Comment_2579842

Unfortunately for that assumption, it's actually blatantly obvious that they shouldn't be able to be destroyed. It's not a question of bias- it's just basic understanding of how the mechanic works and what it's trying to achieve.

For what it's worth, I play killer exclusively. No survivor bias here.

Checked off the list. I was waiting for that "I only play killer" sentence. There it was finally. Got to have that "How is it that I play killer only and still disagree with you" person in each thread like this. Ugh.

Well, of course. It is evident, but the point of airing those opinions in public is to have others comment and converse about them, isn't it?

To an extent for me. Was just assuming most would agree as it is pretty blatantly obvious that the Boons should be able to be destroyed. xD I tend to forget how Survivor sided the community/devs are until stuff like this comes out of course.

Alright, fair point, you CAN say the same about Hex perks and you CAN compare them. You'd just be completely wrong and showcasing a lack of understanding of how game design and balance works, if you chose to do so.

It makes zero sense for them to be destructible if you actually understand the mechanic.

We all have opinions. Mine is mine. Yours is yours. Thought that was evident. Some people still have to be reminded I guess.

Survivors putting up boons are spending a lot of time screwing around. Between looking for totems and then blessing the totem, I see survivors waste a lot of time. Time doing that is time not spent on gens. The matches where survivors aren't blessing totems go so, so much faster.

Survivors finally get a second objective that they're actually doing (at least for a couple weeks before the novelty wears off), and then people want to make the perks so useless survivors won't bother to do it at all. Because if the perks are weakened, no one will use them and all survivors will have to focus on will be gens.

If you prefer survivors have nothing else to do other that rush through gens, just say so.

Like I said way up at the top. Make the timer however short you want it to be as long as killers can stomp it. All timers/stats can be changed to whatever they need to be as long as killer can stomp/destroy them just like survivors can get rid of a HEX.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2579750#Comment_2579750

No, you couldn't say the same about Hex perks. They're designed around being disabled, and Boon perks are designed around not being disabled.

They're not the same, you can't compare balancing decisions between the two perk types.

You CAN actually. People just choose not to. You are not going to change my mind. I appreciate the effort though. Apparently you are outnumbered even in just this one thread so.. Idk what to tell you. Just makes more sense to have them be destructible for killer.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2579710#Comment_2579710

The mechanic may be easier to play around as the killer, naturally, but it'd be abandoning the function of the boon totems. After all, they're supposed to be a safe haven continually dragging survivors away from generators- how can they be doing that if the killer can easily stomp on the two or three totems that are going to be in advantageous positions?

There's a reason killers can't break or destroy totems. It's not bad design and it's not a flaw to be fixed, it's very intentional and it's actually a good decision. If the boons need further tweaking- which they probably do- you need to look elsewhere, because being able to permanently disable the perk or any of the totems would completely ruin the point of the perk and ensure it's nothing more than a momentary annoyance.

You could say the same about HEX perks. You are dead wrong my friend. All we can do is each hold our breath and see who comes out right/wrong. Eventually Killers will be able to destroy Totems. It is not if but when so just be ready for it.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2579678#Comment_2579678

I read carefully, don't worry! You said you want boons to be something killers can destroy, and I think it would be a shame to completely ruin and abandon the boon totem mechanic like that.

You wouldn't be ruining it unless you are narrow minded... The killer having no MEANINGFUL counter play is the issue. Snuffing the Totem is not MEANINGFUL counter play as it only delays the infinite reigniting of the Boon. Destroying/stomping the Totem would be MEANINGFUL counter play and does not ruin/abandon anything. Not sure ######### you are talking about..

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2579612#Comment_2579612

And what a shame that would be, honestly. Completely ruining and abandoning a potentially interesting and fun mechanic just because people complained would be a very low point in their career.

Read carefully. I am not saying they will get rid of it, but I am saying that killer should be able to do more than ....snuff it out.. That is all.. Let me be as specific as possible. If enough people complain about Killers not being able to destroy/stomp the Totem... the developers will eventually make it so that Killers can destroy/stomp the Totem. I wouldn't want Boons removed. Never said I did.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

Boon perks would be useless if the killer could destroy the totem. Survivors have no way to protect their totem, unlike killers who can protect their hexes. Not to mention, there are plenty of survivors running around destroying dull totems for the killer. I just got out of a match with a Laurie who ran around to every totem and destroyed it, then clicked her flashlight at it because she was so proud of herself. She made crap points and I still blessed the totem I wanted despite her purposefully bringing the killer straight to me, so screw her, but still, there are survivors out there helping the killers and they can permanently destroy totems.

False. It wouldn't really matter tbh. If the killer could destroy the totems it would be better period.

The devs made it clear in the stream that they will not give them a one use only.

The devs say plenty of things they don't keep their word on... Why would this be any different. If enough people complain..believe me. It will get changed.

Killers who are protecting their Hex are more than likely not doing their main objective. This point is moot. You are saying 1 killer protecting a HEX is more powerful than 4 survivors who can bring 2 BOON PERKS EACH.... laughing...really..

  • @MrPeanutbutter said:

I agree that killers should be able to destroy rather than only temporarily snuff out noon totems. But it should take longer than 2 seconds to destroy. It’s ridiculous that survivors can infinitely relight totems and killer can’t do anything except wasting time returning to snuff it out. Survivors can permanently take out hex totems 30 seconds into a match, and it’s not like a killer can relight another hex. Either allow killers to relight their hexes, or allow to permanently destroy boom totems seems like a fair balance

The counter argument to this is "Boons are not map-wide". OKAY?! Make them map-wide for all I care. Just let me SLAM MY FOOT DOWN and get rid of it for good!

  • @Munqaxus said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/288870/killer-should-destroy-boon-totems

The best way to fix boon totems is just not make them totems at all. Change a boon totem to an area of effect centered around the survivor that brought the effect into the game. Self-Care doesn't need to be setup by survivors. Bond doesn't need to be setup by survivors. Iron Will doesn't need to be setup by survivors. None of the endurance perks need to be setup by the survivor. Get rid of the whole totem thing and then there is no reason for the Killer to need to go and break the totem. Plus it keeps Killers from wanting Boons to be the exact same as Hexes.

I'd rather just be able to destroy them. I doubt the devs would go full on in reverse on the entire "Boon Tiotem" thing as a whole.

  • It really doesn't matter how long it takes to make a Boon Totem is the point.... There are 4 Survivors who can INFINITELY reignite the Boon.... While there is only 1 killer that can simply delay the spread, not get rid of it altogether. The math is completely one sided with these. I get that the developers do seem much more Survivor sided at times due to the majority of the fan base playing Survivor, but come on.... Let killers BREAK THAT #########...FR xD

  • @Nathan13 said:

Nobody in this thread equated hexes to boons except you. They're very obviously not equivalent, the only mechanic they share is totem interaction.

OP's idea doesn't make them like hexes in any way because of the fundamental difference that you can relight boons. Just at a different totem. Survivors would still be able to use their perks, just not in the same area indefinitely.

Exactly. I wouldn't care how strong they made Boons personally though. As long as I can find it and CRUSH it...it would simply make it better.

  • @ThatOneDemoPlayer said:

This would probably work if there were more Totems during the Trial

I agree. Make it 8 - 10. Wouldn't really care. Would benefit both sides.

  • @indieeden7 said:

Okay, but only if we make it so that survivors don't need to bless the totem, it is done automatically, their effects are map-wide, and it takes the killer 14 seconds to break. Oh, and survivors should also be able to interrupt the killer from breaking it.

Boon effects are hardly comparable to those of hexes, their fundamentals are completely different, treating them the exact same as hexes would be silly.

Make them like Hexes then. Just let me destroy the totem. I really wouldn't mind. Totems are way easier to find as killer anyway. The developers play it way too safe for no damn reason. They want me to believe that these murderous bloodthirsty killers wouldn't just STOMP on the pile of bones... xD Give me a break. Realism should be the goal here...

  • @indieeden7 said:

    That doesn't make sense.

Clive Barker wanted to bring a character that would bring both pain and pleasure of sexual variety. The first two movies explain this, but if you really want the best example of this, then look no further than the Hellbound Heart. That book puts more detail into the pleasures of the labyrinth as much as the torture, the movies focus more on the torture to make him appear more as a villain, but the book shows more to the character. He's kinda of a perv...

I don't know how some people don't know that, maybe the movies after one and two have done this, but yeah. It makes sense for the character, but if you want a specific scene where he says something rather close than look no further than the first movie.

When Kristy Cotton opened the box in the hospital the first lines spoken by Pinhead to her was "The Box. You opened it, We came."

Plus it wasn't even supposed to be dirty, they chose that as a reference to the first movie

Makes perfect sense. Pinhead never speaks THOSE EXACT WORDS. Not counting any variations of the same sentence. If he never speaks the exact phrase. Meaning EVERY WORD in that EXACT ORDER, then it shouldn't be there. And now it isn't. Everyone just needs to get over the voice thing. It is NOT coming back so deal with it.

  • I believe so. Just like Franklin's Demise can make them drop the Lament immediately.

  • This is only possible when Survivors use Borrowed Time or Soul Guard is it not?

  • I'd have to be fair and do 1 NERF and 1 BUFF to each side.

Survivor Nerf - Cannot moonwalk. As Survivors turn left or right they automatically move slower. So moving in unrealistic circle or zig-zag patterns would never confuse new people as it would be just that....much slower.

Survivor Buff - The perk "Kindred" is now base for all Survivors.

Killer Nerf - Removed Bloodlust Tier 3.

Killer Buff - The perk "Shadowbourne" is now base for all Killers.

    Everyone gains and loses something.

  • His power is the perfect example of High Risk/Little Reward.

  • I pray to god more people notice this. I don't think he is popular enough to get that kind of recognition aside from the hardcore fans like myself. I guess I just wish the in-game Pinhead looked exactly like the trailer version. Not sure why they would use 2 separate models... :( I had been wondering what was off about his look since the PTB..... Now I finally figured it out. I'm glad at least one other person noticed.

His shoulder blades should go horizontally straight out from his neck to give him that intimidating powerful presence that the in-game model lacks. Currently in-game his shoulders are very weakly aligned. They are curving downward as if he is slouching. That is very inaccurate to the actual look of the character. Pinhead has a very strong foreboding shoulder frame. Almost as if he is a walking square. I really hope this gets changed. I've mentioned it on Twitter/Discord and on here. Please developers. Please!

You are accusing bhvr while it is only the community's immaturity that makes problems.

The only difference from the line in the movie is "we" being changed to "I" and I don't know if you believe a single person saying "we came" is better than saying "I came".

Replacing "came" with "arrived" would be MUCH more different.

The devs can't change that the community finds the word "came" funny.

I'm saying it doesn't matter whose fault it is. Whatever the license holder wants is what will happen at the end of the day. I don't really care one way or the other tbh. The voice lines are gone and everyone should just get over it lol. xD

  • @Pukenplag said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481834#Comment_2481834

What should they be careful about next, using the word cow? Maybe someone will be offensed.

Or maybe ignore the pussy huntress mask.

Some words have multiple meanings, and you can't change the fact that perverts can't understand "I came" means I arrived and not I ejaculated.

These jokes are funny for the first year you learn about human reproduction.

Tell that to the license holders. I'm sure they don't give AF.

  • This is what happens when you take something and change phrases around so the character speaks out of context. If they had just left the line as "You opened the box.???!!!".......none of this would be happening... I guarantee you the "I CAME" part upset the license holder for the simple reason of easily being taken out of context and for the even more obvious reason... PINHEAD NEVER SPEAKS THOSE EXACT WORDS EVER....IN ANY MOVIE... This is why people can't have nice things. When someone gives you permission to borrow their guitar...of course you are going to just play it right? Not use it to squish a [BAD WORD] spider... Taking liberties with stuff that doesn't even belong to you is beyond stupid... I'm sure at this point, they learned their lesson.

  • Apparently the actual license holders don't like memes of their character either. Good riddance. xD

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2478160#Comment_2478160

Are you the same person who complained that saying "I came" instead of "We came" is an insult to the lore?

Apparently the license holders agree. Idc what anyone says.. My gut says they saw the stupid memes and told them to get the voice out of the game. xD

  • Good... the voice actor didn't do a very good job and the I CAME part probably upset people that own the character. I would be upset too. Pinhead saying those specific words "I CAME" never happens in lore... The correct line is "WE CAME" assuming there are multiple Cenobites. So if it is just Pinhead don't create new phrases that he has never spoken before. Thanks. Glad it is gone. Now we just need the basement colors to be blue when Pinhead is the killer. :)

  • Geography in general is a toughy, but on the map topic. Make the maps smaller when it is SWF.

  • That'd be awesome! I want Trapper to slam his face as hard as he can into his own trap for his HARA KIRI!!!

  • @fogdonkey said:

The idea is that there should be some time limit on the length of a match. If it runs out, survivors are auto-sacrificed, similarly like after end game collapse. This would make the matches more interesting, different strategies need to be used based on the remaining time, and also prevents the matches from taking forever because of survivors hiding in lockers or healing in the corners.

    More detailed ideas:

    - Add a timer (e.g. 17 minutes, needs to be finetuned) which starts running at the start of the match. When the timer runs out all survivors are auto-sacrificed.

    - The map starts as dark (during night) and gradually gets brighter as the timer is running out and daylight is getting closer.

    - There can be offerings which shorten or extend the timer.

    - Hatch can appear e.g. 2 minutes before daylight and open 1 minute before daylight regardless of the number of survivors alive and number of gens repaired.

    - If gates are opened or hatch closed the end game collapse also starts and survivors are automatically sacrificed if one of the timers runs out.

    - Killer power, speed, stun duration, special ability recharge duration etc. can change as the daylight is approaching and the killer is getting more tired and weaker. Or maybe the killer should get gradually stronger? Not sure, needs to be tested.

Let me know what you think about this idea!

Sounds extremely interesting and I think it is very possible that this could fix a lot of issues currently in the game.
