Honestly, although I know nothing about FNAF lore, this DOES suggest Springtrap to me, because the knives are on a magnetic knife holder as found in kitchens, and apparently Springtrap sometimes carries a kitchen knife:
And, of course, the FNAF movie just came out.

Next killer confirmed: Gil Hibben

I suspect this means that this month's new killer is Vecna. Deepest sympathies to the FNAF fans who were hoping for a FNAF release to tie in with the movie. Although honestly I'd be fine with either since I've only seen the first episode of STs4, so I have no idea what Vecna does.

There was a time when you needed 800 xp for each rift fragment rather than the current 500. I found it a lot harder to complete the rift in those days.
Could that be what you are thinking of?
oh! maybe so! that would certainly explain it!

oops, accidentally posted this in the wrong forum and reposted to "ask a question" forum. mods, please delete this one. thanks!

oh wow, I never noticed that Distortion has tokens, thus telling an SWF team that I have Lethal Pursuer at the start of the match, and then telling them I have BBQ after the first hook. I thought it just hid your aura for the whole match or something.

Is it possible to switch items if you have - let's say - Wes spray and a toolbox? If not, that is the only issue with the actions.
you can drop the wes spray to use your toolbox, and then pick it up again afterwards.

For the other side: pick up, open locker, vault, interact. I don't understand why they are so stingy on buttons. There are 10 idle buttons on the controller, let alone PC master race.
you can always tell a killer who has <100 hrs in the game because they climb through a window when they try to pick you up.

OK, after playing it a bunch with both roles, I can now say that the void is SPECIFICALLY for survivors. Survivors can use it to warp around the map (although it's kind of a gamble where you'll end up, so it's really more useful for escaping the killer than getting to a particular spot), and for every ghost they feed they get 50% charges refilled on their item. So the ghosts being on the map and doing their jumpscare thing is more just a sidenote to the primary benefit of getting toolbox refills.
Killers should only go into the void if they're chasing a survivor in or to do a challenge; they get no benefit from feeding ghosts. Likewise, killers should NOT feed void rifts (unless it's for a challenge), because all that does is make it easier for the survivors to open the void and reap its benefits.
-
@UnknownKiller said:
But u can kidnap in theory the box to the void.
ooh, I wonder if you can kidnap Victor to the void...
-
I think I figured it out, actually: the void is for survivors, not for killer. I just had a survivor escape a chase by going into a void and then popping out of another void elsewhere on the map (smart!). This would've worked better if there were no scratch marks in the void, because I could just follow those to the portal they popped out of and downed them 3 seconds later.
If voids stayed open long enough to be reliable, they would be a good counter to BBQ and other long-distance detection perks.
Speaking of which, I noticed playing Doc that while in the void I can still see screams in the normal map 10 meters below me. I presume if someone screamed in the void I would see their scream 10 meters above me, too. And likewise with KIs.
The ghosts still make zero sense, though. My bet is that they originally chased the opponents and screamed when they got close, and the scream was stronger (maybe it would stun killer and give a loud noise notification for survivor). But enough ghosts + zombies + bot survivors overloaded the pathfinding system and crashed the game. Total random guess, but after playing DBD for 7 years I bet that's what it was.

I agree, people get so mad when the devs DON'T add things for "fun" then when they do people complain that it doesn't give them a competitive advantage over the otherside. Like if you want to play a game PURELY for the fact that you want to WIN then go play a competitive game I will never understand why they come to a casual game like DBD then complain something about DBD just mushes peoples brains into paste and render any sort of thinking obsolete.
"BUT LOSING ISN'T FUN ONLY WINNING IS" that's quite literally a phycological issue that stems from a deeper issue, if you CAN'T have fun in both victory AND defeat then that stems from a more personal real life issue that you need to deal
But this event isn't fun. It's a very convoluted special ruleset with a net negative payoff.
I do not have fun wandering around an empty mini-arena 10 meters above the real map. I do not have fun looking for black ghosts is a very dark area where I can barely see them and they might not be there at all. I do not have fun feeding a ghost only to discover that I don't have enough energy to feed him all the way. I do not have fun when I fully feed a ghost and he spawns in a corner of the map far away from any gens where neither I nor survivors have a reason to go. I do not have fun exiting the mini-arena via a portal and having no idea where on the map I'll end up.
A good event mechanic "mixes up" gameplay like the Twisted Masquerade did. This one just adds totally superfluous gameplay. If I wanted to just "have fun" and not worry about winning, I would play Daddy Meyers or something.
The only time this event mechanic is remotely fun is when I'm down to two survivors with 2+ unfinished gens so they have no chance of winning, and messing around with the void is a distracting alternative to chasing them around the map.
-
event is bugged with pinhead. he doesn't get any energy for downs.

The game isn't quite clear with its description, but the ghosts are actually quite good IF they spawn properly. Feeding them gives you an initial boon of 15 seconds of Haste, Undetectable, and a significant boost to basically all actions. If a survivor runs into one they get a HEAVY Hindered effect for a couple seconds. Alternatively, you can run into them yourself for a decent BP bonus and a heavy Haste effect. The wiki SAYS it lasts 30 seconds, but I haven't seen it go that long. Survivors can also feed ghosts for effectively the same effect,
yeah, the haste I've gotten from ghosts lasts maybe 3 seconds tops.
-
Also from the description, I thought, like, the ghosts would follow you out of the void or something, to make it easier to use them? but... nope?
-
oh cool, and now I have a challenge to make a ghost spawn in a random corner, and then chase a survivor all the way over there. wut?
-
From the description I thought the void was gonna be like the Upside Down, where everything was the same but spooky, and I could move around there and use some kind of cues to figure out where people are? But, uh... nope.
-
agreed. Here's a crazy idea for a potential solution I posted a while ago:
@luvcraft said:
The game is pretty much over when there are 2 survivors left and more than 1 unfinished gen. This sucks for those 2 survivors, because at that point you're just waiting for the other survivor to die so you can hatch.
Here's my crazy solution:
- Change key to a temporary item, move key's add-ons to a new "compass" survivor item
- Any time there are at least twice as many unfinished gens as remaining survivors, the hatch spawns, closed. When this happens, the key spawns somewhere else on the map. To avoid griefing where one player holds the key but won't open the hatch, any and all players can get a key from the "key dispenser", but have to interact with it to get one.
- At that point, survivors have the option of finding the key and opening the hatch and escaping through the hatch.
- If the survivors open the hatch and then the killer slams it, EGC starts as normal, and all remaining keys are destroyed (unlike currently, survivors can not reopen the hatch during EGC, but this never happens anyway)
This rubberbands the game by giving the remaining survivors a fighting chance, and making the killer who's ahead patrol the hatch and/or key spawn in addition to the remaining gens, so the survivors also have a better chance of popping the remaining gens.
...although looking at that suggestion now, based on experience from both sides I think the game still gets into this problem if there are 2 survivors left even if they only need one gen, so the "whenever there are twice as many unfinished gens as survivors" part wouldn't help.

oh then they're hacking and you report them
its also possible you didn't face the wall as well as you think you did but we'll assume that's not the case
rather than hacking, I think the issue is that a lot of people here are saying that you have to "bury your head in the wall" when you pick someone up to avoid getting blinded, but that's entirely dependent on how close the survivor is to a wall when you pick them up. Since they're playing flashlight SWF, they're gonna know not to hug walls, and if they're a meter away from a wall when you pick them up then you can't just "bury your head in the wall" so you're gonna get blinded. Just facing the nearest wall isn't enough when the nearest wall is a few feet away and you can get blinded by a survivor ~120 degrees from your facing direction.
-
no, wait, I just got a 4k there. Never mind.

You physically can't be blinded by any means if you have Lightborn.
You don't even really need it though, you can just play slug heavy if they're trying hard to get saves.
seems like they also always all have unbreakable, though. :|

I guess Franklin's would also help...

Lightborn, Hillbilly teachable.
I have it on most of the time anyway because blinds from any source suck, but it invalidates four survivor items at once so it’s worth the slot if you just see them in the lobby.
but you still drop when someone blinds you with lightborn.
EDIT: oh wait! did they change that??

@Ariel_Starshine said:
Yeah that worked for me, I put it on and watched a movie. By the time it was over I had all three drops, woohoo!
That's a long movie! What was it?
-
the answer is "yep". I just tuned in to a stream that was doing the drops, muted it, and left it running on a tab in the background, and now I have all 3 drops. Only thing that stopped the progress was if someone stopped streaming, so I DID have to check periodically and change streamers if whoever I was streaming stopped.

The killer was twins, so it's possible that they were hit by babby while repairing and while already injured and that's what caused this issue.

it's lazy and sad because there's an opportunity to do something creative with no downside, and they're choosing not to be creative. it's lazy and sad because it's something creative they USED to do, but don't care enough to do anymore.

I did do it! Thanks! ❤️
I really like the conversation that's sprung up in this thread about how a lot of survivor tome challenges make you throw the game. Since I pretty much only play survivor to do tome challenges, this explains why I often feel like I'm throwing the game, and why my survivor MMR is absolute garbage because I almost never escape because I've thrown the game doing challenges.

Bots are good around the safest structures in the game. As long as the killer doesn't use their power. Or perks to help them. Or a pallet is pre dropped. And don't get me started on gen efficiency, healing, unhooking and other decisions. If you can't play better than a bot, then you have different issues other than dc penalties.
You mess up and instead of playing the game like normal and doing better you make it everyone else's problem. This is the equivalent of saying: "I only play as long as my match is easy mode and everything works in my favor." Don't play the game, if you don't like it. Don't even queue up. Play something that's genuinely fun for you. Preferrably a single player game, so you don't ruin anyone else's match.
indeed. sometimes I do wanna just play my way. Especially if I'm working on a tome challenge, which is the only time I play survivor. And if things don't work out I probably hook suicide, because 90% of the time in solo queue I never get rescued anyway.
And it's OK that I'm worse than a bot; I'm awful at survivor, and I'm not really motivated to get better, because playing survivor in solo queue is terrible and like I said I only do it when I've run out of killer tome challenges and want to do some survivor ones.
-
@Xernoton said:
No need to make solo queue unplayable by removing dc penalties.
Seriously, whenever they disable the penalties the number of disconnects skyrockets. And it's not only because they were slugged to death or whatever. People will always find a reason to dc.
did you typo and mean to type "make solo queue PLAYABLE by removing DC penalties"? Because bots are 100% better than any of the survivors I've seen in solo queue. Including me. 😀
I've said something similar before on these forums, but if I mess up at the beginning of a match, I'm gonna hook suicide. If I could just DC and let a bot take over, that would be a lot more fair to my teammates.

Nemesis this time. But it happens fairly often.

Yeah, which only came out a few weeks after the PTB came out where we already knew basically everything that was needed to know
only us cool kids who play PTBs. The general public only had that trailer to go on. :D
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UWQ6iHVDfY
the trailer in question, which absolutely made it look like Legion's power was gonna be "pretend to be a survivor".
-
LOL, lots of people here whose idea of a good time is getting hooked in the first 5 seconds of the game and spending the next 2 minutes watching their teammates hide in lockers as they die on the hook.
A great thing about PTB is that there's no DC penalty, so if I see that I've gotten into that predicament I can just DC and immediately find another match and try again. And with bots I know that if someone DOES get around to unhooking my character, there will at least be a bot to play the rest of the match and give them a fighting chance.
Without DC penalty, if I want out I DC and am replaced by a bot. With DC penalty, if I want out I have to hook suicide and the survivors are down one player. DC penalty actually makes it WORSE for the survivors who stay in the game.
DC penalty is just another one of the billion poorly-thought-out things that makes solo q a terrible experience, but has zero bearing on SWF where the game actually has problems.
-
I love to dunk survivors in the hatch. I wish there was a custom animation for it.
If I'm steamrolling the survivors, I usually try to save the survivor who's had the worst luck for last (e.g. someone I've accidentally tunneled, or got sandbagged by another survivor, etc.) and dunk them.
-
The answer is that friend #1 plays solo, friend #2 plays SWF.
If you have comms to coordinate who's going for the box and when, chain hunt will never happen, and without chain hunt he's garbage.
If you don't have comms, chain hunt happens once or twice, and he will wreck house, because chain hunt is really strong.

I really don't feel like boil over needs the 33% progress when killer drops from a height
As I said a few months ago ( https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3431890/#Comment_3431890 ):
I don't understand why boil over isn't 3 different perks; one to hide hooks, one to get a wiggle boost when dropping, and one to make the killer veer sharply in random directions. Maybe combine those effects with one other similar effect on each perk, but having all 3 on one perk is WAY too strong. Most of the time if I pick up a survivor with Boil Over, unless I'm right by a hook, I immediately drop them. And if I find multiple survivors with Boil Over, then I go for slugfest.
