Make DC penalties apply to the percentage of games and not the number of instances in a 24 hour window. Problem solved.

Unless one of them gets hit, then they magically can pass through one another.

I actually had the opposite experience yesterday, guess what? Me, a Rank 1 killer got sent back to rank 13! WHAT?! Wanna know how survivors are doing against me? NOT EVEN 2 GENS DONE! Damn... I let 1 escape every game just to be nice...
I used this builds in case you wondered:
P3 LVL 50 GF: BBQ + Ruin + Dying Light + Discordance. Addons: Green for stalk speed leaning from corners
P3 LVL50 Trapper: Agitation + Iron Grasp + Make your choice + CI. Addons: Darken traps and bring 1 or 2 extra
P3 LVL 50 Doctor: Huntress Lullaby + Ruin + Distressing + Hounted Grounds. Addons: Afflicted survivors get randomized localizated and counter clockwize skillchecks
lol yeah rank reset certainly takes the edge off.

For some this is revenge for ruin nerf. For others this is spite over DC changes. Either way, I'm running a no mither, tenacity, unbreakable build as survivor now. Fun. It would be terrible if I shared the love and did the exact same thing. Down every survivor and chainsaw around the map for 4 minutes as they sit there hating the game. I would never do that though.... That's other nasty people... Right... Not me.... right...
-
Survivor main here. I agree killer side was very frustrating for me until I spent a day meme gaming as killer and now I've learned to not care about winning the current match. I go in with my own agenda. Like drift king billy no addons, or overdoing moonwalking, or rotating constantly. Ironically by learning wacky playstyles I'm improving faster than I did playing normally. By being greedy for the immediate win, you don't explore enough, which means you don't learn enough for the long-term.
Just an observation. My heart goes out to the killer mains out there. I know how frustrating it can be. Somehow getting hit through dead hard and face camped isn't as frustrating as playing killer.

Guess i'm still recovering from all the matche's survivors left just to ensure I black pip'd or de-pip'd. I have 0 remorse for the people complaining about there being a DC penalty. It was greatly needed.
Keep penalties, just change the method of calculating them. As it stands, casual DCers can easily rack up minor penalties, move on to another game or activity, and come back 24 hours later with no penalties ready to do it all again. All is forgiven. Whereas if it were based on a ratio, they wouldn't be able to get away with that. They'd have to start actually finishing their games to remove the matchmaking penalty.

@AvisDeene said:
Nope, penalties are fine as is. If you’re internet is so spotty that you rack up the longer bans, than you shouldn’t be playing online multiplayer games with other people and make their experience worse.
One or two disconnects here and there will not harm you with lengthy bans, rage-quitting will. Don’t rage quit and you won’t have much to worry about.
If a player only plays casually, they can still DC every game without actually being harmed, whereas a player who plays 10 hours a day and crashes once or twice will have their penalties increase forever unless they quit the game for at least 24 hours. It penalizes playing many hours and doesn't do anything to stop someone who just plays now and then and DCs every match. That's the system right now, and it's bad counterproductive policy.
DC penalties should be based on the percentage of games affected, not the number of instances in a 24 hour period. This way, players who just want to DC are penalized, rather than players who experience the odd crash in a marathon session.

Franklins is a really good perk against flashlight brigades. They will go for flashlight saves, they will go back to pick up flashlights. You can exploit this. Pretend to rotate to another area, but soon go back to where they dropped that flashlight and 8/10 times they will be going back for it, caught off guard.
Fake the pickup of an injured survivor if you suspect someone is going to flashlight save. Listen for an injured survivor if they're injured, or circle the blocked structures where they are probably hiding, look for scratch marks that didn't come from the downed survivor. Don't pick up unless you are facing a direction they don't have a flashlight angle like a wall. If you are not confident you'll get the pickup, just leave them slugged and look for survivors. A slugged survivor is just as good pressure, sometimes better because it takes time to heal them up while an unhook is instant.
If someone is blocking hook, that's a free hit. More than one are blocking? Great, more survivors injured. They use flashlight on you? Great, let them waste battery as you evade by looking up. They teabagging, taunting, fast vaulting? Great, wasting time not doing gens. Just don't get sucked in and distracted if you need to be keeping other survivors off of gens. Everyone bringing a flashlight? Great, they don't have toolboxes and you get to make Franklin's plays.
These are just the plays that come to mind because I've played 1500 hours. If you're new, you shouldn't be expected to know these yet. For some reason rank reset brings SWFs with my level of experience and well beyond to play against people that just installed the game.
-
I don't know, 18-20 hours maybe?

@killde said:
Just entered a match. Almost all players had a flashlight. I come to hook one and drop the survivor because of the light. A few times. Some of taunting me. Bugs keep occurring where the survivors magically teleport forward and I miss my hit despite doing my physical best to hit them.
And then I come to hook a survivor, get a flashlight in my face, I avoid it and as I come to hook him the other survivor is crouching under the hook and I can't physically press Space to hook him no matter what I do, then he turns on the flashlight and I get blinded.
I just pressed alt f4. Listen to me devs, I didn't come to play this game so a bug being stronger than a perk prevents me from hooking and to get annoyed and bullied the entire time.
I didn't come to get made fun of. You are making a circus of the type of players that allow this game to exist. No killers - No matches.
They are laughing as I quit and get a penalty for getting made fun of the entire time.
Bad matchmaking is my guess. Magical teleport sounds like dead hard. How many hours do you have in the game?

Rank reset. All red ranks aren't red ranks anymore.

That's hilarious because my game crashed on PlayStation 4 and I didn't get no DC penalty yesterday. I call BS. Yeah, this game is definitely buggy... But an hour of ban time??? I really hope they don't reverse this for the crybabies like you. It really needs to stay.
It's so great that your personal experience applies to everyone elses experience. I commend your fair and open minded approach to reasoning. Well done. I have to admit I am truly impressed by the wise souls I see in the DBD community. When I read end game chat I often hear words of encouragement and inspirational quotes from Gandhi, or perhaps a discussion of the Schrodinger equation and its implications for the world at large. We are all truly blessed to be a part of this community.

Now why would people all of a sudden start complaining more about crashes when they are all of a sudden severely penalized for their game crashing?... I... I... can't figure it out. It must be some sort of conspiracy.
-
@McLightning said:
1 hour for crashing. You know you have to DC/crash like 6 times for that to happen...right? Which is funny since the penalty has been active literally 2 days.
I find it hard to believe its the games fault when mine personally hasn't crashed in a couple of months. If it is the game crashing that often, which I doubt, its something with your configuration.
But since I think you're just a bold faced liar about this, I'm going to go ahead and say stop DCing.
So in your sample size of exactly 1 person, there hasn't been a crash in months. Wow, guess it's all an elaborate ruse then.
@fleshbox said:
Peanits (spelled right?) streamed for 5 hours last month before the dc change. During that time he crashed on his first game and alt-f4 once. That was in about 8 games since most of the time was filled with empty lobbies trying to get people for their group.
Someone ban this man. He is clearly speaking madness and lies. DBD is a perfect game with no bugs and absolutely does not crash ever.
-
@Huntar said:
Nice. Maybe we can play with folks that won't "crash" out of every game finally.
Except the last game I played, one player DC'd and then the next player suicided on first hook. See my above point about it penalizing people who play a lot and not penalizing people who play casually.

Well normally it's the survivors that disconnect in those cases. I don't care about pips tbh or points in those cases because you're getting none anyway. I just want the game to be over.
Also tonight suicides have seemed far more frequent than disconnects. I've barely had survivors disconnect recently.
Can't wait to see the next lot of stats were all killers have like an 80%+ killrate.
True about the 80% kill rate lol.

If they DC most of their matches, they will be banned longer. Not a hard concept.
If they play casually, the penalties aren't severe enough. If they play a lot, the penalties are too severe. Do it based on a percentage of games and everyone's happy.

I'd say I'm glad it's not on Xbox, but even here they're just DC'ing like crazy since rank reset. Had 2 survivors in a match DC on their death hook. I mean, why? It was strange to say the least
I've had my game crash on death hook. Not saying that's what happened for them, but it does happen from time to time.

"....or DC".
No. DC isnt an option. It's a childish ragequit. You being mad about not being able to do it shows what we need to know.
Except people are still DCing in matches after the penalties. It's currently designed to punish people who play a lot, not people who DC most of their matches.

This is sadly an online-game. Doesn't matter if you play survivor or killer, the "toxicity" is always there. But to stop annoying dc-ers for both killers and survivors, i think DC Penalty is a great thing imo.
If done by a percentage of games it would make more sense, although still be mostly ineffective. A player can easily suicide on hook, leaving their team in a bad spot. The more often this is done, the more likely the killer is to slug, which makes the game less fun for everyone.

Demo is too weak imo. Billy is the best killer all around. He's very powerful, has a high skill gap, yet accessible to the newcomer, and you don't feel cheated when you verse one, unlike say the spirit where it's flipping a coin on whether you guess right or not, or a good nurse where you feel helpless.

Have not done that but dosnt that mean that i have to make another steam account ? I dont know how it really works and it wouldnt be my account right ?
It's an additional steam account that has access to your games. Only you have access to the account so yes it's your account. If you try the family account and it let's you play, that means the bug is surrounding your original account specifically. That would be very helpful to know in narrowing down what's wrong.

Try a steam "family sharing" account and see what happens.
Just throwing out ideas in case you missed one.

Try playing in windowed mode and turn off auto-adjust resolution.

Gotta give it to you op this post is so far the most creative one out of the 100 other "i want to be able to dc half of my games and not be punished".
I'd be fine with that, if it were based on a percentage of games instead of how often you play in a 24 hour period. As it is now, it punitively affects people who play a lot.

Either figure out what's wrong with your computer and fix it, or find another game to play.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1091123#Comment_1091123
DC and just accept the extra minute for the ban if it upsets you that bad, or play one of the other games that doesn't have this as a potential outcome.
it's not my computer, it's their game. My other games don't ######### the bed like dbd does. I put a lot of money and time into this game with the expectation that I wouldn't be blocked from playing it because they decided to change their DC algorithm to something much dumber. I mean that literally. The (number of crashes over a 24 hour time period) is one of the simplest algorithms one could implement and because it's too simple, I get penalized when I really shouldn't. Meanwhile some joker DC's because he hardly plays and he experiences no effective penalty. Just fix the algorithm. It's not hard. Any first year CS student could fix it.
-
And if you get a dumb teammate it messes the game for everyone, but that isn't penalized. Meanwhile my 1500 hour self crashes a few times in a 10 hour stretch and my penalties keep increasing. Makes no sense. As i've said before, make it a percentage of games not just a number in a 24 hour period. Right now it penalizes people who play a lot and crash a few times, and doesn't penalize people who play hardly at all and DC every game. Stupid.

you know what else is part of dbd? slugging and making survivors sit there for 4 minutes doing nothing with no recourse.
-
Too much altruism and too little objectives is very common from my experience. Altruism emblems are competitive, so many survivors rush saves before their teammates can.

Learn that the game will always be broken. DC penalty had to happen.
Then do it correctly the way I outlined above. The current system makes no sense.
-
@Mr_K said:
Let them have their tantrum.They will settle down or stop playing in time.
Or the devs could fix this mess. They already delayed the DC penalty once. If they want to have DC penalties, do it on a percentage of games basis and not a 24 hour window which unduly punishes players who play a lot, and doesn't punish enough players who play more casually.

If I run the killer for 3 minutes and the team doesn't pop a single gen + they sandbag me by pallet camping even tho IM in the one in the chase.. After I get downed and I see noone on gens I will get the hell out of this match on first hook. And yes, this happens in red ranks. Can't deal with dogshit like this.
But let's say I slug you with knockout and third seal. Now you have to sit there for 4 minutes doing nothing. No really guys, this is a great policy change.

If slugging 4 survivors and letting the bleed out is fun for you then have at it. This type of person would of done that regardless of DC penalty.
Normal people don't turn into toxic ######### because of a rule change. They were always like that.
Wrong on both counts.
-
"If the bug doesn't happen to me, it must not happen." - the people in this thread.
Brilliant logic, friends. Heaven forbid you also get stuck with penalties through no fault of your own. I'd like to see your condescension and dismissals then.
-
They say penalty won't apply during loading. Of course not all of us have that particular issue. There are many ways dbd can fail but I think you specifically are safe for now.
-
@Mr_K said:
Complaints about hook suicides are an attempt to make BHVR revert the DC penalty. From the survivors perspective a teammate killing themselves on hook or DCing is the same thing. It's the ones who regularly DC that are raising a stink.
Or those who periodically crash through no fault of their own, and play tons of matches in a 24 hour window. Now I'm stuck incurring increasing penalties unless I take 24 hour breaks between marathons. They could use a percentage of games system, but instead they want to punish people playing too much.
But it's fine. On the plus side, now I get to slug every killer game and watch them bleed out slowly over 4 minutes. Survivors sure seem to love it!
-
No. But we can add some penalties for getting stuck.
-
Go back to the system where it's a percentage of total games, instead of a 24 hour window that punishes people who play more.
-
Dodge lobbies with keys. Kill the one with the key first. Run franklins. Otherwise it's just luck of the draw. Keys drop at 7% or 14% rate depending on plunderers. Then they have to find hatch before you. If you are a high mobility killer like billy, the odds are even worse for them. Just accept that much of this game is RNG and the odd survivor will get away using a key.
-
Are the chains supposed to represent unfair crash penalties?
-
The fix is to bring back the old system based on percentage of games played instead of DC's in a 24 hour period. I can't tell you just to quit because BHVR reverses and changes their minds so they might come to their senses. You could quit and periodically check to see if they fixed it yet. You might just forget about the game completely though. I don't know that it's your internet. My internet is fine, its the game itself that glitches, frequently crashing when trying to load post game screen for example. It hurts no one but me, and yet I'm penalized.
-
They used to have a system based on what the percentage of games that you played did you DC from. See that system was logical, and BHVR has a strict no logic policy. Instead they want to penalize you if you play too much. If you DC every single game you play? not a problem, just play very casually. If your game crashes a few times during a 10 hour gaming session? Sorry kiddo, enjoy your increasing penalties.

Trolls threwing pallets like no tomorrow, losing skillchecks, bring to you the killer, suicide in the first hook, clearly they are upset for that and this is how they "protest" because more than a protest it's a babycry supermarket scene.
I saw this yesterday. Someone blowing gens, spamming fast vault for attention, then they suicide on hook immediately. Just remove DC ban please. The old system used a percentage formula so it didn't penalize players who played more than others. If the goal is to get me to play the game less, it's working.
