It is annoying that the traps are rng based but...you're solution is still rng based.
Wouldn't it better to just have a set time for escape?
-
I'm not saying that playing survivor is hard but there is some nuance when being chased by the killer.
Survivors have to know how to run certain tiles to maximize chase times and these can take a while to fully learn and master.

The killers dont farm and they dont kill quickly. Many slug for the 4k to try and gain some points back.
I’ve also had “EZ EZ” post game after this.
They aren’t exceptions. Its common enough for it to be a problem. People like you dont care though because you barely play survivor so never see these situations. To you all that matters is that ez win.
I like how you assume what I play and attack me personally...it's usually a sign that you cant argue against my point.
Ok so you are saying your two DC in a game is fairly common. So in ten games how often does your scenario happen?

How does this punish the innocent more? Lol

When 2 survivors dc they get a 5 minute time out.
The 2 survivors left in the game get utterly shafted and it could be equally as long if not longer before they get into a new game.
This stupid system punishes the innocent more than the guilty.
The 2 survivors that DC will get punished with the timer. The two left will undoubtedly lose the game but usually the killer will either quickly kill them or farm.
Dcing is not ok period. You are ruining the other players experience by dcing. You should be annoyed at those two survivors that are dcing and ruining the game rather than allowing them to get away with it.
Your examples are the exception and not the norm. I could also list Fringe scenarios without the DC penalty in place to show why it's needed as well.

This is what I don’t understand either, people who are finding reasons to say that half of their games are so unfun they have to DC, WHY are you still playing this game?
If I play any video game, board game, card game, sport, and half of the games are unfun guess where... I would find a new game.
It's the pattern in these forums, go back and look at any change and you'll come across some form of a backlash but eventually it dies down.
I'd say once the ptb is out and that takes everyone's attention, the DC penalties will no longer be an issue.

Totems=Healing so going a little out of my way throughout the match to find 2 or 3 in the spots i have memorized pays off.
Wasting a perk slot to run around the map just to find the hard totem spots I don't know in case the killer is running No ED. That's not worth it.
If running a perk to counter noed is "not worth it" then surely you would think that noed isnt much of an issue to begin with.
-
The only maps where I have trouble finding the totems are the indoor ones and that's because they don't follow the same pattern as the other maps.
I prefer to take note of two totems and cleanse the rest. When the last gen pops I check those last two totems to see if they are lit and cleanse accordingly.
-
I think DS shouldn't activate if grabbed, that would solve the majority of issues.
-
The DC penalty solves more problems then it causes and because of that it is here to stay.
If a mass survivor suicide were to happen in every game, the statistics would reflect that and the devs would act accordingly but as far as I can see this isn't happening.
The games I've had, barely anyone DC's anymore and I've only had a couple suicides so mostly it's been positive. And I've not crashed once but I'm on ps4 so I can't speak for other platforms.
-
I agree with op, the exhaustion add-ons at least need to be tweaked. Before the nerfs to exhaustion perks this add-ons would simply delay the exhaustion perk by 30 or 60 seconds depending on the rarity.
Now they straight up disable them permanently until the chase is over regardless of rarity. Either the rarity of these add-ons need to increase or the wording needs to change such as " disable exhaustion for 30 seconds but it comes back whether or not survivor is running".
It's definitely an overlooked factor when the exhaustion effect got nerfed.
-
Stop being so melodramatic lol

Such a fun and fair system. Yes lets compare it to Rocket League because that game has a penalty for ranked games yet none of the billion other issues DBD has so it’s totally a great comparison!
Once again the system isn't perfect and even games like overwatch has issues where it would kick you out then penalize you fo dcing.
I've not come across many survivors that suicided personally but I'm on ps4 so I can't speak for other platforms. Maybe it's because it takes survivors 10+ minutes to find a game that no one suicides.
In some scenarios it was not a fun and fair system but you can't say that the previous system was fair and fun either.
If you have such a problem with it, wouldn't it be more productive to come up with an alternative solution.
-
I understand your frustrations but the DC penalty solves more issues that it causes and if you revert the change, we would be back on square one.
If you had an idea that would solve this problem in another way, it would be more productive. Until then DC penalty is the preferred way to go.

At least one normally would. But if not then its the same? But the point is that option isn’t there.
I’d at least like the option to forfeit games. I dont think it would make much difference with all the toxic players but at least if 2 survivors gave up I could agree with the other survivors to just call it a day.
Those last two survivors can also suicide and end the game quickly.

The rest left have to participate in and finish a tilted game. Nobody has fun.
Killer gives up - I’d rather have them disconnect than sit and hold m1 while they afk.
2 Survivors give up in 1st minute - I’d rather have the last 2 disconnect and get it over with than be forced to go chase them around or play hide and seek.
2 survivors give up while you’re playing survivor - seek out the killer wanting it over with and be left on the ground for 4 mins to bleed out. Punished because others quit the game.
What if the last 2 doesn't disconnect?

Dc for the hatch was part toxic swf, but part because the other survivor was bored as hell while the killer walked around spending the full 4 mins looking for an immersed claudette he was never going to find. Its a very boring part of the game that should have been addressed long ago.
Killers that disconnect early will now just go afk early. This is another point, I’d rather the killer disconnect on me if he doesn’t want to play as opposed to me having to sit holding M1 through the remaining gens before I can end the game.
Basically everyone is giving up just as often as before if not more so but now everyone else suffers for it by being expected to carry on playing against opponents that are no longer taking part. You’re pretty much playing DBD by yourself at that point.
@Warlock_2020 That’s the problem it’s the frequency of it. Its just so common for them to give up.
I agree with you in that when the killer slugs to get the 4k is very boring and maybe the survivor should have an option to suicide there and then seppuku style but...in the current state of the game i prefer the DC penalty.
Id wager that the suicide rate is lower than what the previous DC rate was purely because it takes a little more effort to suicide. You can't just rage quit and instantly leave the game, more people will be inclined to stick it out.
Wraiths or Myers sitting in the corner facing the wall wasn't unheard of before this change as well so I don't think this would trigger that either.
As I mentioned before it is the lesser of two evils and I think we'll eventually see the positives. Whenever any change occurs, there is some backlash which promotes toxic play but that dies out.

The cap is fine. How unnaturally fast do you need to turn to slap someone?
This another parity issue with PC? Can't they mod their FoV? PC players are already boosted when you just need positioning.
Not at the moment. If the survivor is close enough, they can move faster then the killer can turn the camera.

Few games of killer tonight.
-1st survivor suicides on 1st hook, so next suicides on 1st hook. Happened multiple games.
Meanwhille the 2 survivors left and the killer get stuck in a boring game they don't want to play and have to see it through until the end.
So the people disconnecting get their escape, probably don't suffer too much of a penalty compared to others since the last few left in the game will be stuck there for another few minutes anyway. If they get a longer timer after multiple disconnects they turn the game off and play something else for a bit. Meanwhile everyone in the game who is a victim of these people have to suck it up.
This system punishes everyone else more than it punishes those that disconnect. Best job ever so far.
Your scenario is the lesser of the evils. There isn't a fool proof way of stopping players from prematurely exiting the game be it dcing or suiciding on the hook.
But punishing dcers would at least alleviate one of the problems and I think it's a step in the right direction.
Dcing to give someone the hatch shouldn't be a thing and this stops that or killers dcing near the start of the game causing survivors to spend another 10 minutes searching for a game.
It's a welcomed changed that has more pros than cons.
-
I predict the killer is gonna be similar to clown. Very good at loops, terrible at everything else.
-
I wouldn't mind the hook teck if grabs were working properly...
-
I agree with this, at the very least allow the doors to be opened early after a DC.
-
Both killer and survivor have the potential to be toxic and op to the point that the other side might as well give up.
Killers can run ebony Mori with irri heads and it's already gg before the match has started.
But survivors have the same potential as well with bnps, keys etc.
My least favorite perk to play against when I'm killer is adrenaline, when the majority of survivors are hurt but there's only one gen left, you know that those survivors are gonna rush the last gen as fast as possible.
I don't mind noed that much but when I play survivor it's always in my mind before the last gen pops. If the killer doesn't have it than gg but if he does then the game isn't over yet.
-
Myers and ghostface could also get the same 50% stalk penalty that the gens have. Most survivors should notice if a Myers is stalking for that long.

I 4k almost every game right now. I can barely ever escape if I play solo survivor. The stats we have reflects this as does the experience of many.
Red ranks are completely watered down due to new rank reset. I had a Spirit daily. Haven’t played her since the demo update when all the bugs started so I was rusty and barely used her power effectively. Went against a 3 man swf. They had between 150 - 300 hours playtime each. To anyone new that might sound like a lot but red ranks previously used to be at least 1,500 hours per survivor. Bare minimum 800 hours. Those games were super sweaty.
Needless to say it was a cakewalk. 2 gens done and 4k.
This is everygame now. This is why its so hard to win as survivor but so easy to win as killer.
My point is that whatever people think about balance it’s moot now. Killers are dominating. Its very unlikely you would get 4 great survivors in a game.
Previously yeah red rank games could be incredibly difficult but I think until the new matchmaking is in place it makes it impossible to talk about balance. You can’t really justify making any changes at the moment.
You probably 4k everygame due to survivors with an inflated rank. 90% of my games as killer is the same, at least 2 potatoes in the team which results in an easy 3k/4k.
It's very easy to rank up as survivor, even solo survivor due to a lack of high rank killers. I'm not that good at survivor and I'm doing alot better than I should because of this.
You are right about matchmaking breaking the game, the devs should never have changed it from average rank to highest rank. And discussing which role is harder is difficult because of it.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
The state of the matchmaking is horrible to say the least and the game is not in a healthy place currently, hopefully with the implementation of the new system good players get good players and bad players get bad players so it's not heavily tilted in balance anymore. I can't tell you how many times me as a rank one survivor got as low as greys, though it's getting a little better I still get matched with killers who still don't understand the game completely and potato survivors that should be in green not rank 4.
I always feel terrible after ruining the new killer's experience playing the game as they shouldn't be mindlessly looped by me, it's hard to watch.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1068382#Comment_1068382
I like your optimism but I can't see matchmaking work unless there are lobby's just for solo survivors.
Swf will skew the matchmaking regardless of how well it is set up...but you never know I guess.
-
It's very hard To tell what rank you are meant to be. I'm rank 1 on both killer and survivor but I don't think I should be. In my last 10 games as solo survivor, I've only played against 3 red rank killers and the rest have been in the greens which results in easy escapes.
As a killer 90% of my games are 3k/4k due to two or more weak links or potatoes. The other 10% is against legit red rank groups with no potatoes where I get utterly destroyed confirming that I don't actually belong in that rank.
Mmr wont fix this issue purely because it has to function side by side with swf. Let's say the mmr system is perfect and matches me with an equally skilled killer...what happens if I want to play with my rank 15 friend who only has 10 hours in the game? Mmr can't match both of us so it has to choose and in that choice somebody gets screwed over.
-
Nurse, huntress and oni on console. Once you get past that noob threshold it becomes fun but till than it's very unsatisfying.
I got decent at nurse but haven't brought myself to do the same with huntress or oni.

People have it in their minds only swf can play optimally as survivor. Spoiler Alert: playing survivor doesn't require much info or awareness to be played properly. If you watch Ussylis you'd see how little the difference can be between the two. I personally enjoy facing swf as killer because I play more sweaty builds (slug billy, anti-heal GF, Trapper's basement) and I enjoy a bit of a challenge. Sadly, survivors at red ranks aren't as skilled as they used to be, even swf.
It doesn't require info or awareness but it sure does help. Even ussylis makes mistakes or misinterpretes situations due to lack of information, it's probably why he's always paranoid about being 3 gened.
As a killer on PS4 90% of my games involve a clear weak link or two on the survivors team, they could be solo or inexperienced but either way it's what gives me the edge. The other 10% being a full squad playing optimally giving me no chance.
Because its only 10% of the time that this happens, I'm not bothered by it and just move on to the next game.

Survivors dc'ed while they were being carried to the basement. They even dc'ed while they were hooked in the basement.
Complaining about group A being able to deny group B a challenge by dc'ing while defending it when the roles are reversed is pretty sad.
You are missing my point. I'm not defending survivors dcing. I'm not saying that one is ok and the other isn't.
I'm simply talking about the logistics of the situation, the survivors are knowingly dcing to stop that challenge but there isnt a remedy for that. There is no way of the game knowing that you was going to hook that survivor in the basement so it makes sense why you wouldn't get that challenge (once again, I'm not defending the survivors)
But when the killer dc's, the game should know what I've already done as the survivor. In fact it does when you get scored via emblem score and should complete my challenge accordingly.
Lastly just in case you haven't got the message yet, I do not think either team dcing is fine.
-
@NoShinyPony said:
This problem existed already with the last tome. Do you remember the "sacrifice all survivors in the basement" challenge? Survivors could easily deny the killer the challenge by dc'ing. Happened all the time, so many people were complaining.
I have no idea why the devs ignore this problem.
As annoying as that was, it was understandable as to why the challenge wasn't complete. Survivor dc'ed before they made it to the hook so the sacrifice never happened.
But in this scenario the gens were already done, I had finished my objective. And the game literally takes it back because the game ended prematurely.
-
But this is the second tome...did no one notice?
-
Op's post is far too toxic to have a valid opinion. Being concerned for new survivors but proceeding to belittle new killers is simply hypocritical. Everyone is here to have fun no matter what side they are on.
Noed has clear counterplay whether you are new or experienced as everyone has pointed out which is why it has a powerful affect. And without it most end game builds will probably be dead, and because of this it is very unlikely it will be changed anytime soon.
-
Dbd never makes me angry but it does frustrate me. The game that pisses me off because of how unfair and rage inducing is FIFA.
I've played rb6 siege, for Honor, bloodborne, overwatch but nothing comes close to the broken clusterfeck of a game FIFA is. You could be dominating the entire match and still lose, you could make 3 perfect tackles but due to rng the ball will bounce back to him and he'll score. There is even a conspiracy that the game has scripting that forces you to win or lose online.
Ive had to quit that game for my own health. It's been two years.

Below is a link to the last ten matches I've done as solo survivor on ps4, I think I escaped either 7 or 8 out of 10 times but terrible matchmaking was forcing me to play against lower ranked killers...or there aren't any high rank killers left.
@ermsy said:
I figured I'd record my last ten solo survivor games to see how well matchmaking is, escape rate etc while I'm doing the survivor tome challenges.
Keep in mind that I am a killer main and I don't think I deserve to be in the red ranks but due to either poor matchmaking or just a lack of killers in general, I get paired up with much lower rank killers. This of course increases my rank and so on.

Could be, but how many grey/brown rank survivors have you seen people play against?
Quite a few but I think that's unavoidable due to swf groups. Someone high rank introducing their friend to the game and mm matches me with the high rank survivor.
There should be a limitation on how close a rank your friend can be before pairing in a group.

I'm starting to think it has more to do with the killer population than the mm (which still isn't great).
The survivor challenge tomes are the only reason I'm playing survivor right now otherwise I'd play killer.

Survivor queue times aren't broken due to a lack of killers overall, it's that there are too many survivors in high ranks compared to killers. This is evidenced by super long low rank killer queues. They are probably planning to fix mm before the rift ends, and when that happens killer queues would be too long with too many killer challenges.
I can't speak for other platforms but on ps4 killer queues have always been very quick regardless of rank.

You are right, it's scummy from both sides which should be acknowledged. Neither side has taken the higher route. Both are being stubborn, if the survivors recorded it happening and left, nobody would have much issue but there is an air of hypocrisy in the whole "well we're not gonna leave either" thing.

I wouldn’t say it’s the survivors being entitled. The killer shouldn’t just stand there and do nothing if there are no obstacles between him and the target. In a way he’s holding the game hostage as much as the survivors are by not opening the gates.
He's holding that survivor hostage in the room but the other 3 survivors are holding both the killer and survivor hostage in the game. They literally have the power to end it, sure wraith will get one kill but I don't he'll get much much bp for it.

But the Wraith had the audacity to do it before the gens got popped is concerning. And even if the survivors can get "reported" the killer can for not partaking in normal gameplay
What the wraith is doing is very unsportsmanlike, but I don't think it's a banable offence. The survivors are likelier to get banned for holding the game hostage, it's best to end this childish game of chicken and start egc and move on to the next game.

When did they say that? Can you link?
