I don't believe increasing the effectiveness of gens-before-friends is a good thing either.
However the right answer against that is to learn to tunnel efficiently to compensate and add pressure with more slugging.
And when tunneling and slugging will also get some artificial deterrent, well, there are other games.
-
Good tip, but it will not help some of the … features … "no one is using ever" to get some unfair advantage.
-
Bully squads tend to die, a lot. I just love them.
They focus more on being annoying than on escaping.
I believe the past year only one bully squad I've versed wasn't completely wiped-out.
In my experience, they aren't very communicative in the end chat.

But therein lies the problem. The same program that can "just increase the brightness a bit" can be used to increase the red stain such that it can be seen through cracks in walls in ways that normally it could not be seen. So this program can be used to go into the territory that you already agree is a "cheat". So in light of that, there's no way BHVR can allow this program to be used in a way that lets them see HOW it is being used and then ban those that are using it a little "too much"
Yup, that's where everyone should draw the line.

How? Hugging walls on controller is a nightmare
It's way easier to dodge a killer using the gamepad.
I say that from both sides. (I survive chases more with a gamepad and survivors on gamepad dodge me more often than the typical K&M ones)

- You can check NVIDIA's list of officially supported games.
- A deaf person downloading cheats to have wallhacks on survivors is such an absurd strawman I won't even entertain it.
- How do you know I HAVEN'T asked for better accessibility options in the base game? For the record, I mention this in the feedback surveys they do regularly, have spoke about it on Twitter, and previously spoke about it here.
- The 3rd party program in question being software integrated with my graphics card that came with my PC. You heard it here first folks, if you buy a NVIDIA graphics card you're a cheater.
- Thats' not how you write "BHVR".
- Not really, only an extension of what you defend but let's keep that aside for a bullet or two.
- BHVR is slow to act, it doesn't justify allowing the bad solution.
- And that's an actual strawman.

To play games on a PC, you need a graphics card. Do you understand that? The "GeForce Experience Filter" is part of the functionality of that graphics card. It is not a cheat tool. However, some people are being denied access to this functionality. The "GeForce Experience Filter" is no different from using the small buttons on a monitor to adjust settings for each game. It doesn’t make the sound louder, nor does it drop anything; it simply makes the visuals easier on the eyes.
Replacing some perk or character icons is an action that involves altering the game client’s data, which can be considered more malicious as it modifies the game. However, when it comes to replacing these icons, many people opposed it, saying, "Don’t take away our enjoyment." This is the same.
Mouse?
Keyboard?
Macroing/programming features? These are banned in many places.
Just a few days ago Valve has banned an infamous "gaming" keyboard feature for CS2.
A GPU is supposed to render a game the way the developer intended.
If your GPU had a wall-hack built-in, would it be also fine for you?
Not for me.

Some key things you’re conveniently omitting are that:
- DbD officially supported NVIDIA filters for years.
- The overwhelming majority of players who use filters do so moderately. The examples on YouTube you’re referring to are just a loud minority.
- You can use so many things to “cheat” if your definition is so lax it includes using officially supported features. We should just delete the whole game and all hardware and software ever invented lest someone use any of it to cheat 🙏
- Citation? I've always heard "you use third party software at your own risk".
- In your opinion. You don't actually know. Funnily enough, I've mostly heard about these for unfair advantages. (It was like the ratio cheat "because it's prettier" excuse.)
- No thanks.

you're assuming matchmaking works (it doesn't)
it's as much 'their problem' as it is you cheesing your way to a mmr where you feel this is the only way to play…
A weak team (bad matchmaking) losing against a better killer is fine.
The issue here is matchmaking.
Also, it seems matchmaking now gives you matches like this: normal match, hard match, easy match … and loops.
This doesn't appear to be related to winning or losing BTW.
I've noticed that as survivor and as killer. (Although my last few survivor matches have been way less experienced players, I could see the "strenght" of the opposing killer)
On the killer side it's more flagrant though: I usually play a decent Nurse and one match I'm against survivor who casually die with one or no gen left, then I'm matched against a team that does 3 gens by the time I've found my first survivor (and forces me to play mercilessly) and to follow that I get a team trying to hide from me while I'm on them. And then I get a normal game again.

A brighter game does not make you a better player. BHVR has whitelisted Nvidia Filters and it is an officially supported program, akin to Discord. Filters, such as the use of a brightness filter, are not cheats.
If only the filters were only be used to see more that what's originally intended, it would be a minor issue.
But who really believes there isn't a lot of people abusing the feature to get an edge?

Indeed. But the point is that their stance is any modification that flags with EAC is not their problem.

Reshade, no, because it isn't given the whitelist. I am sure the developers would be fine with it, because it is identical to Nvidia Freestyle, which they have whitelisted, but I cannot say 100% for sure because of that fact.
I would not agree, however, that the whitelisted sentence applies exclusively to communication apps. This was added around 2 years ago - and I do not have proof, so you will sadly just have to trust that I read these rules a lot - when discussions around Discord being cheating were at an all time high, and I would assume reports also were by extension.
As for your point on an official source, that depends on if you're willing to take it as official.
https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/geforce-experience/games/
As you can probably guess by the title, this is a list of all games supported by GeForce Experience, and by extension Nvidia Freestyle as it is part of GeForce Experience. Dead By Daylight is one of the officially supported games.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/1UGAOLY5BGC3/image.png
And again, GeForce Experience and the related programs (including Freestyle, which is the filtering program, and therefore ReShade by extension, as it is essentailly Freestyle without requiring a Nvidia graphics card or drivers) are strictly opt-in. Developers have to actively decide they want players to be able to use these settings, including filters, for Nvidia GeForce Experience to work.
I do not have a source directly from BHVR, outside of them confirming multiple times it is not something they are actively banning for (very similarly to changed perk icons, but I sadly do not have a screenshot of this on hand but could probably find one if you give me a day or two to scour reddit).
So, which it definitely can provide an advantage ("it just makes my game look better i swear") it also can be an incredibly useful tool for those of us with disabilities, and when allowing Freestyle ReShade should also be allowed to even the playing field and allow anyone with an AMD (or other) graphics card + drivers to use (what is materially the same) program to access filters.
At the end of the day, this argument hinges on if you believe that, by allowing Nvidia GeForce Experience to be used in their game, the devs are whitelisting this as an okay program to use. I believe they are, because it is a strictly opt-in process, which is more onerous to perform than to not.
They are not actively banning it but they've always stated this kind of features (speaking of reshade and changing icons etc) is done at the risk of the user.
If they get banned for it, that's on them.

>explain why the same logic doesn't apply to people who are deaf and hard of hearing and using cheats to see survivor auras for example.
Modifying client data to alter the in-game program and determine rendering is cheating. Whether or not someone is disabled is irrelevant to this.
Adjusting the brightness of an iPhone screen is not cheating; it falls within the scope of personal usability adjustments. That's the same argument for macroing mouse & keyboard then.
Yet they are banned from a lot of games and recently Valve has banned a feature of a keyboard for CS2.

Hello,
I'd like to start this off by saying I couldn't use the NVIDIA filters because of a computer issue so I resorted to Reshade. I recently saw on X a very famous streamer, Reudig, saying both Reshade and NVIDIA filters are now flagged by EAC.
Problem is: After updating the game to its latest patch, I played about 5 matches as normal with my filters before seeing the patches. I then got kicked out of one of my games by EAC and decided to take a break and check X, which is when I got informed of the new changes.
Is my account flagged? Will I get banned?
Thanks.See directly with EAC.
Reshade is supposed to be white-listed.

Obvious answer should be no, but hear me out.
I was just in a survivor game against ghostface and one of my teammates was blatantly hacking (insta heals, insta gens, super speed, teleports, invincibility, etc.).
Once I found that out, I immediately led ghostface to a hook and pointed at it because I just wanted out of that game. He refused.
After the game, ghostface wrote that he'd report all 4 of us for hacking and cooperating with a hacker, even though the other 2 survivor and I were doing absolutely nothing.
I know I shouldn't have to ask this, but I'm still kinda worried. This is the first time something like that has happened to me.
If you did nothing wrong you have nothing to fear.
A report requires a video. If the video doesn't show you doing something bad, you'll be fine.

The survivor bots also used to be quite good but after multiple rounds of nerfs they're terrible now.
Also, the only reason why the game is worthless against bots is because custom games don't award bp. I'm fairly sure there is a not insignificant amount of players that would prefer to go against bots if there was anything to gain from those matches.
It's because mind-gaming an algorithm isn't nearly as fun as mind-gaming a player.
If you remove that, the game holds no interest.

Bhvr can't implement then fast enough.
Be careful what you wish for. Some have already been seen in the wild and some are not exactly what you'd call gentle kittens.
Besides, the game is worthless against bots.
-
It only happened once in my last few matches as survivor.
On another hand, I was in a 3 players pre-made (one beginner and one who had never played before): it means the fourth player was most likely a beginner too. (And they played like it.)

So …

I still remember a game fondly.
It was on Hawkins, before the licence was lost. I was playing Nurse.
I was going against this team where a Felix was obnoxiously trying to get my attention with a flashlight. (Before they've fixed the strobe)
So what I did was hook every other member in front of him, in a round robin without ever touching him.
He kept trying being obnoxious, body blocking (as if it could work), the full set.
After I finished killing his last teammate, I've downed him and hooked him in a matter of seconds.
Let me just say he wasn't happy.
😆

I dont think there should ever be a moment in the match where you need to "just alt tab and wait". It doesnt sound like a good design.
Crawling is an option.
e.g. Finding hatch.
-
crawl away
crawl to a teammate
crawl to a hatch spawn
-
So? The second time the killer wasn't under the pallet when it was dropped.
-
On my last few games as survivor, me or my teammates have been tunneled only a fraction of the time and only once from the start. Not exactly a problem, either the killer was bad and we pushed the gens, either he was good and we went to the next game.
On my games as killer I've been accused of tunneling many times.
That includes:
- When I was getting survivor in a round robin, finishing them all on death hook together at the end.
- When a survivor was body blocking out of the hook.
Obviously, they also complained when I started to actual tunnel with 1 or 2 gens left "at the start of the game" because they did the gens in parallel (and sometimes you are unlucky finding survivors and when you finally get one who didn't hide early, it's a bit too late to do anything else than that or give up).
I'll consider tunneling being too strong when survivors won't be able to do gens in parallel anymore and kicked gens will be blocked until they finish another.

hapens quite often to me.
The most I have to do usually is about 2 or 3 rounds around the map then they start working on gens again.
Even that is relatively rare for me.
One of my "rules" is to try to only start killing when only two gens are left. I fool around as long as I need to until then.
Maybe it gives my opponents the feeling escape is possible so they end up trying.
-
To be fair it appears to be pretty rare.
I encounter this kind of plays maybe once or twice a year.
Another game had a mechanic where no interactions between opposing teams for a while would show everyone's aura to each-other until the situation is remedied.

It is so, that’s why I want to touch on this topic, we need to do something about it, and not just close our eyes
Slugging from the very beginning of the trial is a deliberate spoiling of the game for everyoneNever play against me. I usually get slugs from the very beginning if survivors are close together.
It's a tactic to apply pressure and make them waste time.
Either they go for heals and aren't on gens.
Either I get multiple hooks when I see no more survivor around.
-
I've wondered the same yesterday.
I've killed a few good teams (p100s) that gave me some trouble but after them I've got teams that were double-hooked at five gens.
I felt I had to waste a bit of time to give them a chance to do some gens before killing two or three.
-

I use Empathy so see it every now and then when I'm hitting a gen while the other is engaged with the killer. They'll try give an item in exchange for escape in a last ditch effort. Like, my guy, I'm still here 😑 try run him for a bit longer
Probably the kind of players who don't realize he's playing for a team. As far as I'm concerned he would go down and I'd go check the gens. If I see you were busy (instead of hiding) then you'd get hatch and he'd get a hook.

Had a game the other day on 2v8 where a sable sandbagged her whole team by racing around the map tossing every pallet she could find. We killed her... one of her teammates even t bagged on her real quick when she went down...but by that point, the game was ruined. Her team was royally screwed.
Me and my teammate felt bad, so we let everyone still living finish up and go. The last survivor turns out scoured the map for chests and left a treasure hoard on a hill as an offering before dying to EGC. Those "moments" are pretty great.
That's a different situation. If survivors are faced with insurmountable odds, I let everyone live. I don't need incentives to do it.

that just sounds like a new player. I also don't think the survivors would have given you the same mercy if your teammates was afk or getting looped.
That's not the point. There are plenty merciless killer out there too. I've seen it in 2vs8 when I was trying to spare the last survivor or when I'm on the survivor side.
And to be honest I don't like pity sacrifices (nor being given the hatch for that matter).
When I get a win, it has to be deserved.
Killing a survivor or a team that doesn't stand a chance brings me no satisfaction.
Escaping thanks to a nice killer when I've made mistakes doesn't bring me any satisfaction either.
That's just how I'm wired.
That's why I spare survivors. I don't expect them to reciprocate.
And there are actually plenty survivors who have "offered" to get sacrificed over the years. Way less that killers being nice but I believe it's because "survivors are the good guys" and we like the good guys to win.

Survivors are not a team like in Apex Legends, Overwatch, or similar team-focused games. They’re four players with the same goal. This is why why survivors are graded individually at the end of each trial (MMR and pipping). It’s why survivors are rewarded individually at the end of each trial (blood points & EXP awarded). The devs have repeatedly stated this; survivors can help one another or play for themselves and both are absolutely legitimate strategies this game. Both can lead to individual victory, which is what survivors are graded on and rewarded for by every available metric we have.
What survivors are, are resources for one another. Just like pallets and perks that can be used to help individual escape efforts. At the end of the day, to spell it out plainly, teams profit and lose together; not individually. When you die in trial I’m not punished as I glide through the exit gates. I’ll gain MMR and pip regardless of what happened to you. You will earn less BPs and may not pip at all. When depipping was a thing, you might have that happen to you. But these consequences that you face wouldn’t affect me or any other survivor who escaped at all.
Killer mains have this xK = win or loss nonsense. And maybe for you all it works. But it doesn’t apply to survivors. Survivors don’t win or lose collectively, per the metrics BHVR has established in their game. For survivors trials are technically a ([1v1v1v1)] v1.
In counter strike you are getting your own score, however if you don't play as a team you get poor results.
Same here.

@Ayodam said:

Survivors aren’t a team, they’re four players with the same goal (escape). No player is responsible for another player’s performance and survivors aren’t treated as a team by the devs exactly for this reason. People bring different objectives to the trials. There’s already a lot of toxicity in the matches so forcing survivors to actually rely on each other to complete trials would make things much worse. The tagline for this game has always been some variant of ‘survive together or alone.’
The rest of your comment is nonsensical. It seems you have some kind of weird anti-survivor axe to grind.
Survivors are a team.
That's why a tie is 2 escapes and anything else is a win (for either side).
That's why survivors playing solo have a lower chance to win.
That's why the devs have considered rewarding self-sacrifice to save another.
-
It's about the same question as "what do do when the doors are too far away to have a chance to catch a survivor" …
-
What would be the point, in your mind?
-
I get these situations from time to time.
Suddenly there are only 2 survivors left and 2 gens to be done.
Nothing happens for a couple of minutes then a courageous one decides to work on a gen.
Usually I leave him alone and find the other one and kill him. The courageous one gets the hatch.
I've yet to have a game with two cowards.
A solution implemented by the defunct VHS was that if no interaction happens between the killer and the survivor (monster and teens in that case) for about a minute, then they would see each other's position until something happens.A minute may be short but something like that could be implemented. -

I think first step would be letting them know when they made a loud noise which can be seen, because afaik game doesn't even tell what is silent and what is not in current state
same goes for scratch marks, kinda
That'd be an option … if they'd read notifications.
-
That's better IMHO.
I usually don't like UI updates but I could live with this one.
-
MMR would not help as at the very beginning, killer is way easier than survivor.
Utter beginner against utter beginner: killer wins.
note: There is a bug on the forums: it very often doesn't do a "quote" properly.
-
I sometimes go against very green survivor players.
They almost always do the same things:
- They try to hide, crouching behind a wall … when I'm waiting right on their back.
- They violently enter lockers, again, to hide, notifying their position.
- They stay on gens and ignore friends hooks.
- They miss skill-checks a lot.
I'm not sure there is a reasonable way to help them.
The game could maybe insist on making them play killer as it's obvious they have no idea how the killer tracks them.
Good players play both sides anyway.
-
Your GPU is indeed a bit ancient.
However if I understand the message, the issue is for DX11. Why then do you try to force DX11 manually?
If I understand correctly, R7 has DX12 support.
-
It's nice of you giving more fun to the killer.
Personally I love looking for a hiding slugged survivor.
If I don't find him, he died bleeding out.
If I find him, it feels nice.
Win-Win.
-
That's what it means?
I've seen a video from a streamer where the killer was doing that. It made no sense.
If players doing that had more than three brain cells, they would die of shame.
