Let's take a look at VHS and look at what balancing around the top did for those player numbers for a more similar comparison.
The problem of VHS isn't even the balance. It's that playing monster, win or lose, is not fun at all and pretty exhausting.
That and that habit they had to ban testers who were voicing concerns.
Of course, now, any kind of MMR is impossible as there is only a handful of players remaining. I doubt the game will ever recover.

There is no proper solution since the hackers got their source code + they can evade EAC with ease. Remember they also can make bots now because hackers have the code from Dead by Daylight mobile.
It was my understanding that particular hole had been closed. (Or you are talking about a different bot issue, but I'd rather not go into details just in case it gives someone an idea)

Optimization issues? The game's performance getting worse with each update?
Hope you don't mind constantly having streaming or recording software ready to go at a moments notice in case you run into one of the many cheaters in the game. They don't take any resources either at run time or in storage space so it shouldn't be any type of burden at all! :)
It's not even about resources. It's just that, sometimes, I forget.
I have about 120GB of recoded videos I should clean-up ...

Oh gosh, I could not imagine having slowdown like that in this game.
I was leaning more towards : just another bug.
-
Wraith and Trapper may be the most intuitive ones.
I think Doctor is a bit more difficult because it requires some good timings. It's a bit more complex than these two IMHO.
Huntress is quite enjoyable but requires some good aims and understanding the collision boxes.
Billy is even more difficult.
Hag is too special for a beginner.
Don't even look at the Nurse until you have a few hundred of hours in the game.

" don't understand how a loop is effective against her. I thought her whole deal was that she wasn't loopable?"
In fact, looping a nurse will consist in making sure that after her first or second blink, she is not in range, and for that, we will try to either force her to tp blindly, or be visible, but in a very complicated environment for her tp.
Loop a nurse, it will be precisely to make her lose sight of you, because since she moves very slowly, she can't afford to waste time searching every bush in the area where she will have lost sight of you.
So obviously, if she charges her blink when you're in a deadzone, well... it's going to hurt, but you just have to be next to a structure that's a bit complex to be able to bait her.
There are also feints that can save you time : for example, run towards a window, to the point of convincing yourself that you are going to fast vault, and at the last frame, turn around or better, continue along the wall. If the nurse is at least a little bit skilled, she will try a preshot on the other side, and then get caught, get tired, lose time, and have to restart the hunt.
"It seems to me that starstruck Nurse would require a very experienced team to beat and solos would have to get lucky and the Nurse to commit many mistakes to win against her. Just one survivor who does not know how to play against Nurse is already a big deal against average Nurse."
What you say is very true: indeed, against a good nurse, or a nurse who masters a minimum of her character, a disorganized team will have difficulty.
In fact, if we compare the nurse to other killers, she is able to amplify the difficulty triggered by the mistake the survivor will make.
Wasting time against a killer is dangerous.
Losing time against a nurse is even MORE dangerous.
Getting snowballed by a killer can hurt.
Getting snowballed by a nurse can hurt a lot.
So, as a corollary, we have to say that a team will have to be even more precise, even faster, even more efficient, and even more organized against a nurse.
That's why when I hear someone say, "The nurse is too good," I always ask to see videos of the survivor in question playing against the nurse.
Because of course, if the survivor doesn't know how to handle her, and on top of that he plays either solo with survivors of the same level as him, or in vocal, but his friends don't know how to handle the nurse either ... he will feel that she has completely outplayed him.
So yes, it will have been technically true, but it will NOT have been the killer's fault.
How else can you explain that organized, competent, and methodical teams manage to sweat out the very good nurses?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3235132#Comment_3235132
Not only is what you say true, but it takes into account a very important element.
DbD has 29 killers.
The nurse is the ONLY killer with this movement pattern.
Consequence? The progression of a survivor to be able to resist Nurse will therefore be proportional.
Out of 100 games for ex, he'll run into a few nurses, and dozens of killers who walk.
When he starts to know how to deal with the "walking" killers, he will barely start to know how to deal with the nurse.
This is neither a reproach nor a fault, it is just a purely mathematical observation.
That's why if a survivor really wants to know how to handle a nurse well, the best solution is to ask 2-3 people he/she knows and who have mastered the nurse to train him/her in a personalized part.
On the one hand, because he will be able to go much faster than if he has to wait to face 1 nurse every X public games.
Moreover, in the personal part, his friends will be able to explain to him in a complete way, and without tryhard, what he can / can't do, what he should / shouldn't do, how to avoid this or that thing, etc. Advise him, show him why / how this or that thing works or doesn't work.
And secondly, of course, the survivor in question must play himself as a nurse, to understand her mechanics, her strengths, and her weaknesses.
By the way, it would be really great if in the private games, you could activate or deactivate the invulnerability of the survivors, it would allow you to train without having to waste time getting up and healing yourself, which would be very nice.
100% facts.
I'm not sure you have said to vary the counters as a Nurse will learn the opponent and prepare for the next (I'm very tired so I may have missed it)
The fact is, any survivor training against a decent Nurse will kite most Nurses he will verse. And most Nurse mains have a better life expectancy than the others. The worst opponent for a Nurse is another Nurse.

@RaSavage42 said:
IMO Nurse is a hard Killer to pick up and learn... With Blinks and other things related to it (I play on console so that could be the reason)
She is the slowest moving Killer her base speed is 3.85M/S
Her movement speed while charging is less then that ^^^
She moves (I think) 20M with her first Blink (I might be wrong)... so that's why her range addons are used
So what if her Range addons added more fatigue and longer recharge... would that be good enough (sense double Range would just increase fatigue and recharge times)
20, then 12, you are right.
It has to be noted that the longer the blink, the easier it is to juke her (She blinks, she does not teleport).
I went against several Nurses since I came back to the game. At best they got a draw, killing the two utter beginners that were grouped with me.
When I play her, about half the team I verse are quite decent and manage to win (or it's a close one).
I feel there is an ever-increasing number of survivors learning the proper skills to survive a chase long enough : after all, not everybody rage-quits in face of a new challenge.
The recent statistics are pretty representative of my own experience. (I'm a way better killer than a survivor)

I'm pretty sure BHVR can detect who actually uses third party software. So I'm not too worried. We'll see how exactly EAC will handle that in the future.
I suspect it's more on the server-side the detection happens. As long as the other players IP cannot be known, the cheater has to use his to send bad messages to the server.
-
Yesterday I got 3 DCs the instant the game started.
When I've found him, the one remaining survivor was standing still with his head looking all around.
I've tomb-stoned him and the game lasted about a minute after his death, with a "player DCed during loading".
Later, my pumpkins stopped making sounds when crushed. The game behaved increasingly weirdly until I restarted it.
A friend of mine got a crash though.
I'd rather have a DC penalty though, it's not worth starting the game as it is.

As usual, everyone is trying their hardest to be an ass during the event :/
Nothing brings the DbD community together like ruining other people's days!
I've been away from the game for a while and only really came back for the event. Only one of my match hasn't been good fun. (And only because a very high number over a head made me wildly overestimate the opposing team's strength and half of them gave up. Kind of a bummer.)
None of the killer I went against were particularly annoying.
-
Are you kidding? These are the matches with the most fun. They tend to be all about the chases and almost not about the gens. You only need to think how to out-troll them.
I was in a sabo squad a couple of days ago (nothing planned, it's just how it turned out) and, if the killer had it hard at the start, he eventually managed to slowly win the war of attrition. He was pretty happy after the match (no better feeling than overcoming a challenge).
When go against such squads, it usually ends-up with a wipe too. There is always a moment they make a mistake, especially if you troll.
-
Funny how so many players have no issue kiting a Nurse. Then again, they aren't the ones giving up (way to get better).
Of course the good players don't come to complain.
-
I understand how this can be on the predatory side for some people, but is that really that bad?
It's not like if it was loot-boxes, NFCs, or that kind of crap.
-
Are there so many children playing that it would have any significant impact?
(Then again, I fail to see the point of skins in general, except when they are a camouflage)

At least that is honest. Saying WP when you crushed them just comes across as mocking.
That's a "you" problem if you perceive it like that.
I say "well played" to my opponents because:
1) it's polite
2) it's respectful
3) it's proper etiquette
4) it's not because one side has won, even harshly, that the other side played bad. It's not like if this game was balanced and snowballing wasn't a thing.
-
Actually, it encourages tunneling and camping.
-
At long last, this one has been a much needed feature for a long time.
-
Never was my concern. At best, I'll play nice against survivors that I deem outmatched (MMR woes).
The thing is, everybody want something different. Some player would rather die ASAP, some players like the relaxed plays, some players like to be slugged better than being hooked, ... so unless you are a mind reader, you can't know.

That would be a first. A long time ago, when the Nurse 3-blink grab achievement became next to impossible (without farming) it was said achievements were set in stone, citing some Xbox limitations.

Keep in mind I'm a 4.2k hour survivor main.
Slugging, tunneling, and proxy camping (face camping is an exeption) should not be dealt with anymore. Slugging especially. After the bt base kit, tunneling is fine. Camping honestly at this point is fine for a secure kill, always has been, but slugging?!. Why obliterate this tactic/strategy. I can speak for killers rn having 4 or 3 people on the ground is the most satisfying thing as a killer am I right guys? To get 4 people on the ground takes real skill and that gives reward. This game is getting less and less skill oriented now that I think about it. A good survivor should now how to handle slugging and if you get a bad teammate, well that's part of any online coop game. Slugging for the 4k is also completely fine. People get salty over it and I have no clue why, it's a simple strategy that gives you a chance for a double pip (it's hard in iri ranks as a killer).
It's not like people are leaving the game because of Slugging getting out of control or camping or tunneling, none of that is making people quite (some of you may disagree but let's be honest your gonna need dbd in ur veins a couple days later) what's making people quite is hacking, exploits, performance issues, and toxicity within the community being too much and some other reasons too.
Slugging should not be changed nor be worked on
Edit: also from a marketing standpoint, messing with in game strategies is a road to failure. It is generally not a smart thing too do especially when there is a higher chance to loose more players after changing strats then leaving them how they are.
Thanks for reading.
Sounds about right.

Let's say the Killer Radius to stop hook progress 15 m. Same would be given to the survivor as well so if a survivor is within that 15m hook progress will continue. That would keep survivors from looping around a hooked survivor to abuse the system
But then if a survivor is close enough, the killer knows and will not leave.
And all the art will be to wait at slightly above 15m to "camp" or wait for the killer to leave (and that's just from the top of my head, I'm pretty sure there are many twists)

Put in a part where if there is another Survivor within x meters of the Hook the progress would continue. That would of stopped the abuse part of it.
Defining both x and y (survivor and killer distance from the hook) seems key. I don't know if there are value that are working and can't be exploited one way or another.

SWF without kindred:
Guy on hook can say the direction the killer is going, can say if the killer is camping, can say who is coming for save so more than one dont waste their time.
It’s basically the same as kindred.
At least two answers gave you the nuance. Nuances are important, "basically" doesn't cut it.
As much as I want more info for my solo queue (whenever I come back to the game), it needs to be reasonable.

Let's call a spade a spade: the old anti-camping mechanic didn't make it into live, because the solution was flawed. It had a flaw that could have been corrected, but nobody at BHVR ever fixed the flaw.
After 6 years of fixing most of the game issues with perks ... entering: the Bandaid as a Perk aka "Reassurance".
And btw. it didn't really help, that most of the discussions about fixing the camping issue were shut down by people parroting the good old sentence "has been tried and abused" (without mentioning that it could have been fixed).
Anyway, that's off topic, yet it had to be said.
How could have it been fixed? I don't recall a viable solution.
-
@foxsansbox said:
Frankly, I look forward to slug-tagging to make use of the new Mori.
Not because I think it's well implemented, I just know survivors are going to lose their mind about constantly being slugged when it's the last two alive and we know BHVR is going to have to change this.

How is it strong if all the information it gives is free for SWF?
It's not the same. As an example, SWF cannot accurately give the exact location of the killer and it's movements. The information in that case is usually something like "killer camps", "killer goes to someone alone", ...
I expect highly trained, SWAT-level, groups will be more accurate, but nothing like wall-hacks.
Accuracy is key.

@Marigoria said:
Solo players have been asking for Kindred basekit for so long.
Basekit BT was a nice add since tunnelling is a cheap “strategy” with little to no counter play after the DS nerf.
But, as much as I dislike slugging for how boring it can be, I can see it has its uses and sometimes it’s necessary.
The only way I think basekit Unbreakable could be justified is when everyone is slugged for more than 2 minutes because the killer refuses to hook and is just bleeding everyone and wasting everyone’s time.
Basekit Unbreakable every 45 seconds at all time will also buff SWF, which I don’t think it’s necessary tbh.
Will we keep seeing other perks added basekit and STILL no Kindred?
If you want to add QoL improvements to the game add Kindred basekit, it will only help Solo Q and not give an advantage to SWF.
At first, it sounds like a good thing but Kindred is kind of strong. I believe the devs need to give more information to survivors without being that specific/accurate. There have been many interesting suggestions these last few months. Someone even posted some UI suggestions he made to illustrate.
(An alternative would be to make different rules for solo and SWFs ... but that'll never happen.)

I suppose, but i don't expect anything more than number tweaking like “unbreakable down from 100% to 75% recovery speed” or something inconsequential such as that.
An old anti-camping mechanic from years ago (four? more?) never made it into live because too easy to exploit.
Here I'm hoping the current version will not make it even into the PTB.
-
@C3Tooth said:
Unbreakable was strong because no one expect you to have, where you have a chance to use.
Basekit Unbreakable makes killers straight up to pick them up instead.
This change doesnt buff survivors, but it kills the interaction between dying survivors and their teammates. No one care about coming to pick you up anymore, just Gen rush
Removing options is never good IMO. I'll watch these changes from a safe distance, preferably on Youtube.

The closest in game definition is how the emblem system defines it for the killer chaser emblem
16m is considered moderate proximity to the hooked survivor.
8m is considered extreme proximity to the hooked survivor.
Those are the closest in game definitions I can find for face camping either one will be viable for my change.

But still, people just entirely ignore (even after I put a huge disclaimer on the post) my point with only tombstone PIECE being strong. J. Tombstone is extremely fun to face. Not the piece. That is simply stupidly OP

Yeah, running an instance of the game on the server which would be considered the source of truth for all players would remove probably all these cheats.
I guess it also brings a lot of challenges and new problems, but should be doable.
Doesn't even need the whole game. Just checking positions over time (and thus speed) relative to active perks (and the fact said perks can really be activated) would help a lot. Same for weapon usage/speed, etc
-
Put some validation server-side.
-
Because it's fun to get that surprise.
It's almost as if it was an horror game.
-
The issue isn't the Anti-Cheat. It's not a good line of defence anyway.
The issue is that, although we play through severs, there is no validation on these servers about the data sent to them.
Simply keeping track of the players sates (position, perks, actions ...) for inconsistencies (various speeds, states, end game collapse not ending ...) should cull a good portion of the filth polluting the matches.
But it's likely the servers are actually mindless proxies gobbing everything sent to them.
-
Why unpopular? I love going against them (especially Nurse)
I don't believe the people ranting about interesting killers are representative of everyone, they are just very vocal.
There is a lot of rant about camping and tunneling and it's not something I see myself. I've watched a video on Youtube from some streamer (can't recall the name, but I think it was a he) who was mentioning that in his high MMR games, these plays were uncommon.
This make me suspect that the ones complaining about it so much, facing that almost every game, are in the lower MMRs brackets (Unless they exaggerate, losing credibility in the process). I can perfectly accept less experienced players have trouble going against all but weaker killers.
It's also consistent with my experience. I've often versed survivors that should never have gone against me, as Nurse but also as any killer. I get my fair share of strong opponents too, also against my Nurse. These ones don't come here to rant.
-
Source? (I've obviously missed a stream or a post)
(Got it, thanks)
-
Unbearable? None.
That being said, I don't enjoy playing against The Twins, ever. I don't like to play them either, so it may be related. (I tend to enjoy versing killers I play more that the others.)
Going against Pinhead can be quite annoying in solo queue because of the box management.
The Nurse range addon speed-boost has finally been fixed a few weeks ago.
The real annoyances though are the map and the often-wrong MMR. I've not played for a couple of weeks now and I only need to watch a Youtube video featuring Garden of Pain or Mother's Dwelling to want to keep playing other games.
