  • They seem to rely alot on stats saying something is fine while ignoring the player base going "this isn't fun, it's encouraging unfun gameplay."

It'd be like a chef giving you something that has all the nutrition you need but ignoring people when they say "this doesn't taste good, it needs more flavor."

  • It's probably the solution they've been working on to help against camping except it really is useless against Bubba who is the king of facecamping.

  • Because the only thing that matters now is kills/escapes and Bubba with NOED is pretty much guaranteed atleast a 2k.

  • I remember in a stream from like a year ago he brought up that there are disconnect penalties coded in for lobby dodging they could turn on if they wanted to, when Not Queen and McLean were like please repeat we aren't doing that Patrick said he liked getting the fan base worked up. He admittedly likes frustrating the player base with what he says so I really have no sympathy for him.

  • No more reseting to 0, instead have levels go up to 150 and every 50 levels is a prestige.

I mean they already gave her triple blink back (for some reason) so if they wanted to change anymore it would’ve been during 5.3.0 probably

My guess would be they do the bug fixes, see what stats say after the fixes and then in future patch make changes. I will say their reasoning for decisions isn't consistent so they could leave her untouched because of some soft spot they have for her.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if after bug fixes on her they make some changes to her add-ons.

  • I think more nuance should go into both sides to encourage better game play. Current system encourages camping and hiding, add nuance to instead encourage hooks/interaction.

NHL made changes to encourage more goals because high scoring games filled more seats than low scoring. DBD needs to encourage more hooks/interactions because that is more fun.

  • I cleanse totems all the time to avoid NOED not because of the challenge.

Why were you all staying injured instead of healing eachother? That seems like you were throwing the game because you were upset about not being able to use your boon.

  • @Smuk said:

    It is like the hockey.

If killer has a lot of shots (hooks) it doesnt mean that he is skilled. Only goals (kills count).

On the other side, if you as a survivor sit and warm a bench, and your team opens you exit gates and you manage to go out. You are equally skilled as them, just more as a observing ninja

That hockey analogy he gave was TERRIBLE.

Here's a post from last night where myself and others explain why it was terrible analogy - I even touch on why the hits comment was bad comparison.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/306122/sports-analogy#latest

  • I do like the concept that person made for the icons. One thing I really hope is included is when survivor successfully finishes whatever they were doing the icon lights up or something to show they finished what they were doing. So if someone starts cleansing a dull totem it lights up or does something to show it was cleansed. If I'm paying attention to the HUD and 2 survivors are on gens but leave at same time a gen pops, one lights up while the other doesn't I know it's because that survivor left an unfinished gen. Same for totem - if they are cleansing a dull totem it would be nice if it would light up if they finished it or icon just stops of they were interrupted for some reason.

  • I've run into SO many dead ends on the Game map as survivor. I hated it for both sides before rework and I hate it even more after the rework.

  • I think it'd be great to have the characters on both sides pool the offerings/items/add-ons. Survivors are just skins so it really is silly to not make everything available to all your survivors. Killers while the addons (aside from that one Halloween event one) can't be swapped between killers I don't see a good reason to not just pool all their offerings together.

  • The hockey analogy was terrible for SO many reasons.

Firstly, the NHL has changed rules over the years to encourage MORE goals like in 2018 the NHL changed the requirement of goalie equipment to be smaller. The NHL has seen that fans enjoy games with alot of goals because it's not just about who wins/loses. NHL knows the game itself has to be fun to watch to get fans in seats and watching from home. As we've told the devs we want MORE hooks/interactions to be encouraged in the game and currently SBMM does not do that - it does the opposite which is encouraging facecamping/hiding for kills/escapes.

It's a team sport 5v5 not assymetrical 4v1. The whole team wins, even if only one player scores a goal - it's not a "that one player won." Even the "win" scenarios are a 1v1 basis not a team so comparing a team sport does not work.

Winning the Stanley Cup was also a bad example since to win the cup once you're in the finals you have to win the best out of 7 games. You don't win one game with 1 goal and go home with the cup - you need to get the winning goal in 4 games.

For the Stanley Cup analogy to work evenly slightly the shots on goal would be closer to hits, not hooks. You can have 10 shots on goal without scoring like how you could hit a survivor 10 times without getting a hook. Goals would be a better analogy to hooks since you could win a single game with 1 goal or 1 hook - although if there's 1 goal in a hockey game that usually means both teams had goalie/defense playing hard where as in DBD of you got 1 hook/kill it generally means the survivors dominated the killer or the killer just facecamped one survivor and called it there. The games themselves though would be sacrifices since it takes 4 games to win a cup and you need 4k for ultimate win in DBD.

There's more reasons why it's a bad analogy but I'm going to stop there.

  • I wasn't a fan of the SBMM answer. It felt like they're so stuck on escape/kill win criteria that they're ignoring players when they are saying the matchmaking from it doesn't make games feel good.

The main thing I see from people that don't like SBMM is that it doesn't feel good/fun. It's nice that the stats show it's working but does that really matter if people aren't enjoying the game because of the matchmaking?

On previous stream when asked about OoO Ethan said the stats said it was fine so no reason to make changes. Cote had to point out that even though the stats said it was fine players complaining because it didn't feel fine was a reason to look into it. OoO was then changed for the better and the complaints stopped.

Players are saying SBMM doesn't feel fine even though the stats are saying it's fine. Even players I have seen defend SBMM have said they think there should be more nuance to it - especially on the survivor side.

On the survivor side it's not fun being matched with survivors that hide and hope to be carried by the others or are waiting for everyone to die so they can get hatch. These players continue moving up and dragging down the teammates that are actually trying. It's not fun when a 4v1 is made to feel like 3/2/1v1 because your teammates aren't helping.

On killer side it's sweatier matches because survivors are now trying to finish gens as fast as possible - only escapes matter now and getting gens done is what powers the exits. Killers now facecamp more because it guarantees kills and there's no point anymore to bother trying for multiple hooks - why leave the hook if they can secure the kill with camping and then get atleast a second with NOED? With emblems you would get rewarded for hooks and punished for camping but SBMM is the opposite.

Ultimately SBMM has encouraged unfun gameplay on both sides and made matchmaking feel bad. Stats may say matchmaking is fine being based just on kills/escapes but the games don't feel good.

  • I do think those that earned the masks should get a bit more than those that didn't. I get giving everyone compensation since some may not have had the chance to earn the masks yet so makes sense to give everyone compensation. Those that did earn them though should get bit extra since they put in the time to earn the cosmetics. Maybe extra 1k shards per mask to make it even 10k shards.

  • @Predated said:

Yeah, the biggest issue I had was that he compared it to a football game and how it would be weird to consider.

    However, football isnt asymmetrical.

For survivors, the number 1 decider that buys the survivors time, aka, the most important skill, is chasing. Without good chases, you're never gonna win.

For killers, the number 1 decider that buys the killer time, is killing off survivors.

It should be Chase VS Kills. Hooks and escapes could add an amplifier to it, maybe. But chasing definitely needs to be the go-to decider for survivors.

Comparing to a hockey game was such a bad analogy for so many reasons.

Bad analogy aside all he did was encourage facecamping and hiding in a corner doing nothing. Completely missing the point of why people want more nuance in the matchmaking - current SBMM encourages gameplay that is unfun.

Yeah, that's my primary worry. I do setup meals for Holly (I don't free feed her) but for whatever reason, she is a really slow eater. So while I limit the amount of food in her bowl, the mouse definitely would have time to snag some if it was feeling gutsy enough to go into the cat's domain...

I should move the trap downstairs where he food is. Maybe I'd have better luck down there instead of by the dishwasher where I saw the little bastard run to.

Probably be good to have couple traps set up - one by her food and another by the dishwasher.

With it running to the dishwasher odds are there's a hole/gap behind/under the dishwasher (usually around pipe/hose) since that seems to be it's go to for escape. You can stick some steel wool in the hole/gap and that'll stop the mouse from being able to use that as escape route.

It's definitely an option to do specialized streams, they don't necessarily need to be a part of a Q&A. We've experimented in the past with a stream on hit validation (back when it was first announced), and we've even tried splitting off Q&As into a YouTube series where we take a few questions that we're able to answer fully and go more in depth on the answers.

I remember the hit validation one and really enjoyed it. I like those ones where you guys have gone more in depth explaining mechanics and decisions.

Oh yeah, I'll keep the traps out and see if I ever catch him. If he left, cool beans but he'll have to go for the food in the trap eventually or he gonna starve.

If your cat has food in its bowl there's a good chance the mouse is going for that. I worked at a petshop that had a mouse problem - they only went after the cat and dog food, didn't touch the food you'd see for mice. πŸ˜‚

This is a good point. We do try to reserve some reveals and news for segments on the stream to make sure that there's always something to turn up for (e.g. Circle of Healing, Lunar New Year event teaser), but it's tricky because saving news for a stream means not mentioning them sooner.

The other thing that we've been hoping to do is have more segments about various topics. For example, a talk with a level designer & level artist about what goes into making a map. These would be a lot of work to do, but if this is something you'd be interested in, please let us know. There is also a slight catch here in that some people simply don't care about these segments and would rather we just get to the questions.

I kind of wish you guys would do a separate dev stream where you focus on specific topics. It'd be nice to tune into a stream where you focus on aspects of the game outside the Q&A. Those answers that are shortened for time would probably do well on a stream that wasn't in a Q&A where you're trying to answer as many questions as possible in a certain amount of time.

I have no idea what the hell happened to the mouse.

This was about two weeks ago now. None of my food has been gotten into, I see no signs of the mouse in the house (with a blouse), and none of the traps I set have caught it nor has Holly caught it.

I've been told by some that now that the mouse knows a cat is here, it'll just leave the way it got in knowing there is a predator in the house while another person who also has cats said that didn't matter at all to their mice problem (although he has a lot of food and junk left out so maybe the mouse takes the easy food and decides it's worth the risk, I also have no idea how active his cats would be going after the mouse where Holly I know has cornered the little bastard twice, once when I first came upon it when she was batting away at the vacuum cleaner and this picture when it bolted from the vacuum to under the dishwasher).

Hopefully it left but I'd still be on the lookout. We have mice in our house and they are such a pain to try and catch. We need to get a cat because the mice apparently know to avoid any traps our dog won't catch them. πŸ˜‚

  • It seems to change year to year.

Last year was great for BP. Every gen and hook was an event hook for BP and if you played the event offering you got extra event BP. As survivor you got event BP for gens completed even if you weren't on the gen - this was awesome if you were chased off a gen that was almost done or had been chased when first 3 gens were completed. I'm really hoping they have this same mechanic. Gens and hooks had fireworks which was fun.

Heyo, opening this up for feedback and adding some context: The reason why we end up with a lot of "Soon" answers is because we take the most upvoted questions. In the past, we've cut questions that we aren't able to definitively answer, but we received a lot of complaints about skipping and dodging questions. Of course, like you've mentioned, some things either aren't planned or aren't slated to be released any time soon.

Our POV is that even if we aren't able to give the most satisfying answer, it's better to acknowledge the things people want us to talk about most than stay silent on them.

Genuinely, if you (or anyone else) have any suggestions for how this could be done better, please let us know. I'd be happy to change the way we do things for next time, but it's a tricky situation since there's a balance between taking the questions people want to know the answers to and picking the questions we're able to answer to.

If you can't answer the questions I think a post of "these questions were most up voted but we can't answer" would be good. You acknowledge those questions in a post while spending more time on questions you can answer on stream.

  • Won't show MMR because it'll lead to toxic elitism when players are using "I'm high MMR" as argument anyway without proof. πŸ˜‚

  • I wish for maps they listed all the maps with the kill rate/survivor escapes.

  • @Aurelle said:

    Thank you, as always. πŸ™‚

I just want to make sure people see it, especially since they only shared it once.

  • So many have said the kills/escapes with no nuance has made matches unfun. Matches as killer end up sweatier and as survivor getting potato teammates who rely on other carrying team/dying for escape just isn't fun. It's like when Almo commented on OoO being fine because stats and Cote had to go "stats may say it's fine but obviously it doesn't feel fine if players are complaining." SBMM stats may say it's working BUT so much of the player base is saying it doesn't feel like it's working and that right there is a big problem.

  • No, voicelines aren't needed in the game. They're neat for the first couple weeks but then they get old and annoying.

    Where was this announced?

One of the official foreign DBD twitter accounts jumped the gun on announcement before main Twitter account. They've since deleted the tweet but because it's the internet it lives on. It happens occasionally where the foreign DBD accounts make announcement before the main one, probably due to time zone confusion.

  • πŸ˜‚ My comment with screenshot was deleted so RIP this post.

Still amused that tome is "thick book."

Also concerned about players having to buy the characters with real money to complete challenges since before the excuse was you could use shards to get characters instead of real money.

If you loved series, you should old games too. If you don't wanna play all games, you should play AC 4, it is best AC game ever.

I was gifted the Ezio collection at same time I got Odyssey. I had started first game in the Ezio collection but like 45 minutes into playing had a bug where I couldn't finish a main mission so I stopped playing and decided I'd go back to it another time.

I mostly enjoy the stealth killing everyone. In Origins I had my Predator bow always having poison arrows - I loved killing one guy in a camp with it then sitting back and watching the entire camp slowly die to that one poison arrow. In Odyssey I loved using combo of my bird attacking people outside and my ghost arrows killing people inside. So far Valhalla seems less about stealth and more about the crew loudly raiding. πŸ˜‚

  • I love a plain pancake with real maple syrup but if it's not plain I go for blueberry.

  • I haven't played for about a week, bit more. Performance issues already were making it rough to play but now I'm just not having any fun since SBMM.

For multi-player I've been playing For Honor and Among Us.

For solo games I just finished AC Odyssey and started up Valhalla. I just got to England and pledged to my first region so not that far in. I'm on the fence right now with how I feel about it. For AC games I've only played Origins, Odyssey and now Valhalla. Origins I loved so now compare everything to it. My biggest complaint in Valhalla right now is the bird - it doesn't feel as smooth as it did in the previous games or as useful which is a bummer.

  • I don't hate NOED, I hate getting hit by NOED when I've cleansed totems. In a normal match without camping it'd be nice if my teammates would atleast cleanse totems while they urban evade around the map.

Also since SBMM is now in the game it now increases your odds for a game with a facecamper because they'll get 1k during match and then atleast one more with NOED - those killers will never drop MMR, just stay at same level thanks to 2k or go up if they get more kills. Just boring/unfun matches.

  • I had one game where I was solo and had been matched with a 3SWF. I had spent most the match being chased/hooked and was on my 3rd hook when doors were opened. The swf team apparently had 99 all the hooks and as I was being carried they ran around dropping them all until I wiggled free and then they took hits for me to the door - everyone escaped. I never once saw that happen in all my games until that time, and then they changed sabo. πŸ˜‚

  • They nerf my Trapper with maps πŸ˜”

  • 0 - I didn't log in during the event, playing other multi-player games instead or solo games.

  • As killer no.

As survivor yes. Thanks to SBMM matchmaking more often than not my swf teammate and I get players that hide the whole match so it feels like 2v1 while we carry the team trying to escape. Since only escapes matter now I just leave the first chance I get, I no longer stick around to try and help teammates once the last gen is finished. It's definitely made me less altruistic at end game and focus more on getting gens done as quickly as possible during the match. It's just not fun anymore with the 2v1 feel and having to carry team for any chance of escape so I play way less than I did before.

exactly this. i dont want farming but i want u to just play like normal??? like dont end the game as quickly as u can it isnt a speedrun ur in public lobbies

I think I'm going to not even bother loading up DBD during the Blood Rush, especially since Lunar New Year event should be starting up soon (this year Lunar New Year is Feb 1-15 so assuming the event will run at same time). I'm not up for dealing with players trying to set world records for shortest match in 2 events so close together.

  • I feel like since they started the realm beyond the updated maps have gotten worse. I definitely notice it more on the maps that have had a rework or are new more than I do on the few remaining older maps.

  • This is what I don't get about the events, it's like everyone plays to see who can escape/kill the fastest which leads to less BP. Same thing happens when offerings like BPS are played, people just decide to go super sweaty when they see it. I'm not saying farm just chill out a bit.

  • I've seen some odd hook placements for awhile now. One match I was on the game map, there were 2 hooks upstairs in corner "room" where the stairs are that kind of twist but there were no hooks in any of the adjacent rooms on same floor or below. Been few times on different maps were there seems to be like a cluster of hooks but then like none for quite a bit of map. It's kind of like how there were gens spawning right next to eachother except it's hooks.

  • My first thought is Trickster simply because they seem to really push that chapter so I don't see them gutting him.

Huntress and Hag are two others I think they have soft spots for which will keep them safe.

I'd say Trapper but they keep screwing him over with maps. πŸ˜”
