Due to the way an MMR system calculates the rating change, that's actually not too much of a concern. The amount your rating goes up when you win is dependent on your opponents' rating. To give a massively exaggerated example, if you're at 3,000 and you beat someone who's at 1,500, the system goes, "Well yeah, of course you beat them." and barely changes your score- if it moves at all. Meanwhile, losing to someone who's way below you is going to lower your score way more than someone who's relatively close to you or better than you.

In theory, you can endlessly climb by consistently beating people of a similar skill level. But when you get so ridiculously high that there's nobody on your level to match with, losses mean more than wins, so there's only so far you can break away from everyone else. The range of ratings can grow, but only if there are enough people to support it. (Nerdy aside: The way the system balances things like this all on its own is very interesting to me, and I have spent a lot of time staring at charts and bugging the people who work on it with all my questions.)

Is there a possibility of showing players how much their MMR increases/decreases after each match? I think if players see the amount (like -1, +10, etc) maybe it will make MMR not seem as bad. Right now it's assumed all losses hurt your MMR because it's unknown but I think if people were destroyed then see they only dropped a couple points (if any) in MMR maybe the losses wouldn't feel so bad/frustrating. Kind of like with old rank system if you safety pipped when you lost it didn't feel as bad as when you got a negative pip.

  • I hope they make maps for ALL the chapters that didn't get one. Maps are the only thing in this game that can actually guarantee some sort of variety.

  • I haven't played today - are they hiding them with the same old survivor/killer symbols or were they cool and change them to something useful like survivor portraits?

  • Calm Spirit stopping screams v Doctor and bit for Clown as well.

  • @Peanits said:

    To clarify a few things:

    1. We did not say the old ranking system was good in this post. I'm not sure where you got that bit.
    2. The reason why we did it right before grade reset is to give people as much time to settle into their grades as possible. We ended the test before grade reset because that would set everyone to 20. This would cause absolute chaos matchmaking. This is different from the ranked system where you'd only reset a little.
    3. The test was not going great until the reset. It was fairly mixed, although the grade reset (in its current implementation) would have made it a lot worse.

One problem with the grade test is the safety net players have now where they don't drop a grade from negative pips. Someone that makes it to red now could've been stuck in green before because of that safety net. The grade system now is definitely worse than the previous rank system for matchmaking because of that.

If my Xbox One hadn't finally died, I would test it for myself.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty much ######### out of luck in that department.

I'm glad the experience seems to be better for you. Can you post some clips and can anyone else confirm?

Last time I played was last week and nothing has changed since my last comment I made on this post April 1, all those freezes are still happening.

  • Before crossplay was active there were hackers showing up in console games in legacy cosmetics. Unfortunately being on console with crossplay off isn't enough to stop hackers.

  • Since SBMM started there's a couple killers I'll end out facing multiple matches in a row but my teammates will be different. Killer will 3/4k so it's pretty annoying knowing our mmrs should be going opposite ways but I keep facing them. There's one killer player that's absolutely miserable to play against, he bms survivors that don't do anything toxic and in his streams is such a sore winner - I've started checking if he's streaming so I can dodge his lobbies because if I dodge his lobbies I get different killers every match, if I don't I end out facing only him.

  • I see him about the same as I did when Stranger Things was still available - once probably every 6 months. I saw him once during the mmr tests and I can't remember when I last saw him before that.

Yeah I dont play as much DBD either recently, MMR has just made it meh to me for both roles.

I cant speak much about alot of the games you listed but I'm loving tiny Tina's, new dlc in a few days (21st I believe)

MMR really killed the fun in matches. On bright side it helped break my addiction to the game. ๐Ÿ˜‚

We are taking our time in Tiny Tina. Because of my husband's work hours we don't get as much playtime as we want in it but it's so much fun. Not sure if you already know but incase you don't know - if you're on Twitter and follow this account they tweet out codes for skeleton keys, there's 2 that expire today and one that expires on the 21: https://twitter.com/dgSHiFTCodes?t=nqZh-gd37_EfuuEcpvXHJg&s=09

  • I play a variety of games. Currently the games I'm playing are For Honor and Among Us with my SWF teammate, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands with my husband, and AC Valhalla solo. Hood outlaws & legends was made free on ps+ so will be checking that out with my swf teammate to see if that gets added into our rotation.

  • DBD I maybe only play a couple times a week because I rarely have fun playing it anymore. When they were doing the MMR tests that was the most I played in awhile to try out and give feedback on the tests.

I'm currently playing a bunch of games that aren't like DBD. With my swf teammate I'll play For Honor or Among Us, Hood was just made free through ps+ so probably check that out with him. With my husband I'm playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, loving that game so much. By myself I'm currently playing AC Valhalla, was meh at beginning but now I'm really enjoying it.

  • I miss spinning on the ground while slugged so much.

  • Since grades are not used for matchmaking they should get rid of negative pips, there is no reason to keep them in the game. They should only have black pip, +1 pip and +2 pip.

  • No. I love Evil Dead and was super excited about it until I found out the devs working on it, Boss Teams, are part of same company that does NFTs, Boss Protocol. That made me go from super excited to a big old nope.

  • As survivor before SBMM I would let EGC kill me if the killer didn't know how to drop me in a way that forced me out the exit - my swf teammate and I used to give kills to killers fairly often, atleast one match a night if not more. Since SBMM startee I crouch down, nod a thanks at the killer, and if I have an item I drop it as offering of thanks before I leave - I figure they probably don't want to raise their MMR and get tougher matches so my leaving helps them out.

As killer if the survivors really want to die I'll let EGC kill them or I'll hook them if timer is about to run out and there's no way they'd make it to the exit just for the extra BP.

  • I would love a bot mode where you can choose to v bots. Make it like For Honor where if you choose to go against bots you still get BP, XP, in game currency, progress in rifts, progress in challenges, get seasonal rewards, etc. It'd be a real casual mode, they could could have the bots have a variety of load outs and they could make it so bots wouldn't do unfun playstyles like slugging until bleedout, camping, survivors hiding in corners, etc.

  • People don't get refunded when they buy DLC/Cosmetics at full price that later go on sale. If you bought DBD full price on PS4 or Xbox you wouldn't get a refund later when they game was made free on PS+ or GamePass.

  • Holiday weekend so probably increase in casual players. They don't care about DC penalty, if they're not having fun they'll just quit and go play something else.

  • I prefer the log in BP, especially since during the last couple 1.5x events it felt like people were trying to have the quickest games possible for as little BP possible.

  • @Peanits said:

I just want to start by saying that none of these are bad ideas. On paper, they all make sense. Actually incorporating them into a matchmaking system is where things start to get tricky.

For starters, let's look at just perks. Someone has to subjectively pick which perks are meta, we cannot base it solely on how often they're used. A perk like BBQ & Chili is incredibly popular, but I think we can all agree that it's not because slapping it on will carry you to victory. Applying a penalty to it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. So already, you need to selectively apply penalties to perks and also determine how much of a penalty each one should carry. This is already highly subjective and I strongly doubt that you could ever find a value for each one that everyone considers fair. There are bound to be loads of disagreements over penalties (e.g. This perk has too much of a penalty. It's not even that good. Now I get super tough matches just for using it.)

This also does not factor in the fact that not all perks are equal. Some perks are stronger when combined with other perks/add-ons. Take Dead Man's Switch, for example. On its own, it's okay. Put in on a Killer like The Artist that can easily force people off of generators and it becomes much stronger. How do you apply a single value to it that doesn't discourage using it on other Killers while also fairly penalizing it on ones that can make full use of it?

All that aside, these penalties/bonuses are redundant when it comes to how a matchmaking system actually works. By design, using strong things inherently increases your chances of winning. When you win, your rating goes up and you'll end up against tougher opponents. Put simply, the matchmaker does not care how you got there. It doesn't care if you're a perkless legend, it doesn't care if you run meta every match with ultra rare add-ons. What it cares about is your chances of winning, and its' only goal it to pair you with people where your strategy (whatever that may be) works about half of the time. When it stops working more than half the time, you plateau and stop climbing. This doesn't mean that you're a great player because you have the best stuff, it just means that the matchmaker has successfully put you in a place where you're no longer pummeling new players.

Adding another layer of prediction on top of that would only make this worse, and would only be of benefit in a scenario where you can see your rating (and it actually mattered). Say you're a 1,500 player, but you're running really good stuff so the game treats you as a 1,700 player. If you lose your match, you only get shoved further down into matches with less experienced players who are not prepared to deal with the meta you're running. In a scenario where you can see your rating and it means something, sure, this matters. This stops someone from artificially boosting their rating by running all the best stuff. This is not, however, the case. Your rating means nothing beyond placing you in matches where you've got an equal chance of winning and losing, and it already does that without predictive penalties & bonuses.

"Put simply, the matchmaker does not care how you got there."

This right here is a problem though. Matchmaking not caring how someone got there makes solo q a miserable time. The matches aren't fun because all that matters is the escape/kill, not if the gameplay was actually fun or not. I want matchmaking to take into account how my teammates played in a previous match because in the end if I escape/die it doesn't matter if the match itself wasn't fun.

Did the teammate escape because they were a team player that worked on gens and went for safe unhooks/heals when not in a chase? OR were they hiding/doing nothing to avoid being caught, when they were in a chase would lead killer to other survivors, only unhooks were unsafe in front of killer where the killer would instantly start chasing the unhooked survivor, etc. and they escaped either by lucking out opening exit after killer closes hatch or teammates were able to complete objectives even though they had a teammate that was working against them?

Playing with teammates that are team players, even if I die, is generally a fun time. Playing with teammates that do nothing/are basically spending the match sabotaging the team even if I escape isn't fun, it's annoying/frustrating - especially with current SBMM knowing if they escape too I'll be matched with them again or they'll be ruining some other survivors matches.

Have matchmaking take into account how people are playing because an escape doesn't make up for an unfun match.

  • It started happening to me about a year ago as survivor. I'll hear the killers terror radius while the camera is spinning loading in. It's never a good time. I just hope that the killer isn't an instadown killer and isn't running lethal pursuer if I happen to atleast spawn behind a wall where I'm not directly facing them. Yesterday I had a match v Doctor on Midwich and I could see his glowy eyes at the other end of the hall facing me when my camera stopped. Was glad he wasn't an insta-down killer so I had a chance for a bit of a chase.

  • They should make hatch visible once 5 gens are completed if they're going to keep putting hatch challenges in the archives.

  • Since grades aren't used for matchmaking they should be replaced with something useful like character portraits.

  • Hope these help.

No. I clearly said you shouldn't depip, as it was the point of this thread. Black pipping should be the default if the grades are to be representative of time played. As it is now, the system is inconsistent with its purported function.

Pippiping up will still be tied to how one's play.

That's my whole argument. I've got nothing more to add, as this is probably not a priority for the team, considering your earlier reply makes it fairly clear they're ok with the current implementation.

This. The problem is we get -1 pip. Remove the -1 pip and just make it be 0 pip instead, it would be much better.

  • I doubt it. They removed Hawkins, removed the Hawkins offerings instead of just retiring them like they did previous old offerings, took a hit in earnings by making everything 50% off, and put forth the effort to change the names of all the perks even though they were pretty generic names to begin with. The only reason the characters are still in the game is because people actually spent money on those characters. I don't see Stranger Things coming back and I wouldn't get my hopes up for a Stranger Things part 2 because I doubt BHVR would bother with a repeat situation.

  • Just random trivia. They did one for center of Lery's too. It's similar to the "guess the character" trivia they do.

    in Spoilers Comment by bm33
  • Instead of having the server kick players after 2 hours in a match they should lower it to 30 or 45 minutes. Matches that long are a rarity and it would drastically lessen the time a hacker can attempt to hold a game hostage.

  • I have prime anyway so will use the code to add it to the hoard of unused charms I have. The only people I see getting prime JUST for this charm would be completionists, I don't see this increasing Amazon's prime #s outside of that. It's definitely a let down when previous months we had a full 3 piece cosmetic. If they are switching to charms for the prime rewards I hope they don't continue the partnership after they do the planned May cosmetic, charms don't feel as special as regular cosmetics.

  • Such a disappointment compared to the other months. First month was 2 cosmetics - granted were recolors of eachother but was different from anything else currently in the game for the Artist. Then the other months were all a full outfit. Now just a charm? Pretty lame when compared to the other months.

  • After a good chase? No, I get slugged for a minute+ while they shake "no" at me until they decide to put me on the hook and hit me until sacrifice animation stops. I don't teabag or click flashlight, just loop them with occasional pallet stun.

  • Every DLC that has come out without a map. I'd rather new maps to play on than another set of perks added to the hundred we have already.

Adding perks to "fix" bad/unfun gameplay mechanics instead of fixing bad/unfun gameplay mechanics.

Ghost Mikey cosmetic - Myers under the bed sheet is iconic from the first movie, I don't get how that wasn't a cosmetic added with the hospital gown Mikey.

Having Huntress running around as Baba Yaga instead of Nurse floating in a pot with a broom as her weapon.

  • I love taking pics of sunsets. Here's a few of mine.

yea I know what happen it all good now but these login don't pop up like normal or that on my end?

They didn't do pop up for the cosmetics, you have to manually check your inventory.

  • Screenshot_20220406-215242.png

    April 5 at 2pm ET - April 6 2pm ET was 50k BP. April 6 2pm ET - April 7 2pm ET is Nurse dress.

  • I think the buff is good except for regressing recovery of downed survivors - it should only regress healing on injured survivors not downed too. Also they need to adjust resurgence and solidarity because it's a nerf to those two perks that are already rarely used.

  • I kind of hope it goes to live so I can see how it is on console. Hotfix it after first week but I just want to see it myself.

  • Thank you for taking the time to do this. ๐Ÿ˜

That seems pretty weird that they would alternate them as that would skew some data.

Possible spoiler if you have finished the game but I haven't a question.

Odd question but does farming bosses work for you?

    KINDA A SPOILER

Even on chaos 20 I'm getting blues from bosses and it's never their dedicated drops...

I feel like the only way I can get the gear I want is hope the chamber blesses me with RNG

Haven't beaten it yet, still fairly early in the game because we are taking our time doing side quests before continuing with main quest.

Have you been collecting dice to increase your luck for better stuff? I've definitely noticed an increase in better loot the more dice I collect.

I do think RNG is still bit off though. I've found 3 legendary items in the world (chests/side quest boss drops) but my husband who I'm playing with hasn't found any yet and our luck is at same level.

The questions change based on your answers, for example there's no reason someone about how they feel about playing Sadako if they said they never played her.

There's that too but they have done the other two as well which caused people to miss out on questions.
