But... dead survivors can't see the Killers' perks until the match is over, what are you talking about?

But same thing I expect no DS and unbreakable.
I don't play with DS or Unbreakable. Although I will admit being tunnelled three games in a row made me want to use that first one to get a chance to actually do something...
I understand not all Killers play like that and I probably just had a bad streak.

The general consensus should be:
''Do not expect the other side to be playing nice if you aren't.''
Sadly, that's not the general consensus. It is "I will play the way I get more and easier wins".
Just last night I got dirty games and I was tunnelled three times in a row. I was so irritated I just stopped playing. While I understand it's not the Killer's fault that bad players unhook me right on their face, it's also not mine.
The only things I expect from Killers is no camping and no tunnelling and despite whether I survive or die in the trial doesn't matter to me. I legit just want to play and have fun.

It's also Azarov's Resting Place. The location where he was killed in the Crusher. The Map has one little House I am not sure has to do anything with the Lore. But I don't really read the Lore.
But I thought there could be something like a Graveyard or a Metal Crusher like you said.
I realised I worded my initial post in a funny way, but I meant they made the map more neutral to be enjoyable to play on it. In its current state, survivors are practically guaranteed to end up three-genning themselves and it is such an easy map for Killers to track survivors with no effort.
I was just commenting because I see so many people mentioning Ormond needing a rework due to being a survivor-sided map (I don't deny it is), but Azarov's Resting Place is too killer-sided as well and could use a rework too.
-
I hope they actually make Azarov's Resting Place a playable map. Out of all the Autohaven maps that was the one that desperately needed a rework. Hopefully, they'd actually add the metal crusher from the lore and make it a bit more complex.
All in, all out -- I do wish they add the Snow Rover back into Ormond in this rework. It was such a nice detail in the map.

It's an...enduring perk.
I give you a vote up because that's a terrible joke, I loved it.
-
I find it hilarious because it's so obnoxiously loud... granted I'd be fine with fixing it because it's a tad distracting when trying to listen for breathing or injured survivors.
-
Yeah, I was warned Bloodhunt events tend to get the worst of the player base out although I did not think it'd be this bad. I had one, maybe two, nice Killers through the entirety of it.
Other than that, trial I brought a cake or streamer, trial I was tunnelled hardcore, slugged or just blatantly targetted to the point I couldn't do anything. I had a Doctor say I was "toxic" because I ran him for four generators when he was so fixated with me instead of chasing anyone else -- I still made the least points because I didn't have a chance to do anything else and he face-camped me. And just now, I had a Nurse slug all the survivors at 5 generators for no good reason and we all died on first hook for that reason too. It's terrifying really.
To all of you Killers that still played normally or wanted to farm, thank you for your efforts. They don't go unappreciated, but this event truly showed the face of how terrible this community really is.
-
While I'm a Survivor main, I don't feel entitled to the hatch. All I care is that the match is fair and I get to play and do something then I'm happy with whatever result I get, really. I think you played fair and square considering the circumstances, you are not responsible for a DC -- neither were they, but I also understand their frustration for a player DCing and still having to deal with a regular match. I mean it happens and its awful and I wish there was more to do than the DC penalties, really. I appreciate that you try to play nice when there is one, not many take that consideration.
Whenever I've tried playing Killer, I always get someone complaining on chat no matter what I do. I had a guy die on first hook because nobody came to rescue him and a toxic player was looping me around him while the other two didn't even put effort to come to his aid. He waited all the game just to tell me I was a "camper" (despite the fact I was being looped somewhat far away from him) and "toxic Killer". Like how am I responsible for what their teammates do or don't do?
As a side note, I called the other player "toxic" because I intended to leave him alone to go for the unhooking while I searched for the other two, but instead he did rushed actions back and forth to try to get my attention. He also continued to do that through the match until he DCed for whatever reason.
-
Well, here is my idea.
"Press the Active Ability button to become Fixated with a Generator for the next 30/60/90 seconds.
While Fixated with that generator reduce it's normal regression by 50%/75%/100% while it is not being worked on by a Survivor.
You can only be Fixated with a generator at a time."
Since the theme is mostly about setting a goal, I always thought it should be more in tune with the Objective rather than walking and scratch marks. Of course, Killers can still kick it and matching against Ruin should have it regressing at normal speed.
-
Thanatophobia now affects every interaction except Healing and opening the Exit Gates, everything else has a penalty until everyone is at full-health.
-
As a graphic designer, I think it is merely a issue with transparency rather than something done intentionally.
If anything, I believe this should be reported as a bug for them to look into it.
-
As a Pyramid Head main, I've commented about this a few times already. I think this makes it so much easier to control to me and rather less taxing when using Punishment of the Damned.
I'm not by any meanings an incredible Killer, but I find his manoeuvrability vastly improved with this change and I can return to chases after failing a PoTD with ease. I don't really understand much of the complaints, I see them as an improve unless their play-style was focused in faking PoTD.
I don't see them as drastic changes that "ruined" him as other players comment.
-
OK, I've played a few rounds as Pyramid Head and I find it even easier to control after this update. The cooldown decrease after using Punishment of the Damned makes it easier for me to get back into the chase after I've used the attack and I don't even resent the increased timing between attacks... I rarely feigned the attack and I even used it to try to guess the movement of survivors after vaults and running.
For me, this is quite a buff in the whole extension of the matter.
Also... why are we not talking about TRIAL OF TORMENT GRANTING YOU UNDETECTABLE UNTIL YOU HIT SOMEONE? Like I've probably given a few heart attacks to survivors now.
-
As a Pyramid Head main, once this bloody update is done with, I will play and come back to tell you my thoughts on the changes...
I didn't have a chance of participating in PTB. For what I gathered, the changes aren't overly dramatic and I think it'd be an interesting addition, but all people complaining got me a bit... concerned.
-
I always thank the Killer when they give me the hatch. It's such a rarity to me lately, whatsoever.
The one complaint I have about that is when it happens to the person that least deserves it. Like, when a player does generators manages to run the Killer, save teammates and then they end up with someone else who starts sandbagging then and the Killer gives the latter the hatch. It really sucks.
Every Killer in this thread seems to be some of the cool Killers that do take that in consideration. People that just ruin the experience to their teammates are awful.
-
If it was in Midwich Elementary School, a girl can be heard crying in the girls' bathroom. It is intended as a reference to the original Silent Hill map where that happens too in that location.
-
This question is a bit tricky to answer in a straight-forward way. Some Killers have a rather more complex modus operandi then others. They can be quite difficult to master and even begin to understand. Others are more direct and have simpler ways -- not saying they are any less interesting to match against, but generally require less effort to use their abilities. Examples can be Trappers or Hags which are more like M1 Killers, but a right placed trap can really turn a whole match upside down. Measuring Nurse's blinks, aiming with Huntress' hatchets or the Deathslinger's harpoon. They all have their own tricks and twists.
If we talk in general terms, if a Killer doesn't rely to camping/proxy-camping or tunnelling then they are great Killers to my eyes. I don't mind losing/dying as a Survivor as long as I get to enjoy the trial and actually get to do something.
-
As for Survivor, I love Jake's The Stranger outfit from the Fog Travellers collection, then Felix's Oktoberfest outfit, I love combining the head with other cosmetics because it gives him a sharper look.
As for Killer, I only ever play Pyramid Head and he doesn't have many customisation options just yet (I'd love it if they brought his Boogeyman iteration), but The Hag's split skull outfit and The Oni's Minotaur look pretty cool.

Wait, but you are confusing what rewards blood points with what rewards emblems. I'm talking about getting pips, and those actions you listed only reward blood points, but they don't count in the emblem system (well, cleansing perhaps counts as healing so it does, but for example escaping a RBT doesn't)
Oh, then my mistake. I always assumed doing tasks in game that granted points in Boldness and Survival counted for the emblems as well. I know Teamwork/Altruism and Objective count at an extent.
-
Thank you for the clarification @nursewannabe but adding to what you wrote, the Killer also affects the capacity of Survivors of getting points with what I mentioned. A Survivor escaping a reverse-trap grants them points, a Survivor cleansing in the fountain grants them points and also the capacity of The Plague of getting Vile Purge, etc.
@TheIncredibleBulk said:
I agree with the toxicity of the playerbase. I have played overwatch and CSGO for many many years and have never seen anything quite like the toxicity in dbd. Even without voice chat, some players can be so nasty. But I usually have chat off anyways.
Adding to the discussion about the game's toxicity... as a Survivor main, I can almost be too certain the Survivor players tend to be more toxic than the Killers. Just today, I had a game against a Nurse where she spent the whole game chasing a Nea-player. A Zarina-player and me did practically all generators together while she kept her entertained. Then, Nea finally went down and she was face-camped while I opened the door. There was no NOED so we planned a rescue and were successful, but the other player went down - a Bill, after healing we tried again to rescue him and we were successful again, but I went down. The Bill left and the other two couldn't get me, understandably I thought... but then Bill went on to blast us for being "trash players" and "not knowing how to play". Because, apparently, if I I do generators and try to rescue our teammates who looped the Killer most of the trial, I am stupid.
Damned if I do, damned if I don't, I guess.
-
For a second there, I completely misread this thread's title and thought it said "I can't get away from this dude in the game" and here I was thinking someone had taken "stalking" to a new level or something.
Anyway, I understand this sentiment. I'm more of a casual player, I rarely play things with the whole intention of "outplaying" someone else or winning, but rather enjoying it as much as I can. I get some awful trials and others I end up laughing at the silly things that ensue. I always have that mentality that an enjoyable trial will eventually come.

I don't understand. How does killer choice influence pips? Is it weighted towards some killers but not others? Seems a really arbitrary way to determine matches if so.
Certain Killers allow you to perform interactions, either with them or props they bring in their play-style, and you get points for using them as well. Example: Placing reverse-traps from The Pig, purifying fountains with The Plague, putting Demogorgon's portals, etc.
At least that's what I think @nursewannabe meant, but I could be wrong.

Hey dirge,
thanks! what's your field of research? I'm curious!
I doubt you'll be able to find the paper, as it only exists on my and my professor's computer at the moment. I have a short meeting with him today, however, and if you're interested in having a read, I'll come back to you.
I am a Master in Information Technology currently working for a PhD. My research is focused in the Security and Communications field.
I'd love to read it, but I wouldn't mind waiting until it is published. I can read the summary you provided here in the meantime.
-
As @Lucas96 pointed out... Killers sort of take it like a challenge when you put "Please don't" in your name for some reason.
As a fellow Felix main, I'd love to see your screenshots!
-
As a Survivor main (and one of the very few that does not use meta perks and plays for fun), I wouldn't be against this idea or the vast majority of the points you made in your initial post.
Once more, my only complaint with Undying is, and will always be, the Aura reading. Making that a base-kit seems way too unfair in my opinion -- especially if just kept without any Hex totems to begin with and all dull totems providing aura readings without the capacity of even getting rid of the effect.
Whatsoever, I do agree that Killers should have some capacity of changing the totems where their Hex perks are applied. It would be an interesting mechanic.
-
I was going to make a report about this glitch, but it hasn't happened to me personally and I don't have other evidence than the match I played with friends.
It has been pointed out at least in two independent events in the subreddit of Dead By Daylight as far as I've seen where people end up stuck in lockers like this specific event and are unable to move, leave or be pulled out by the Killer. Other Survivors can interact freely with the locker like Nea-player in this report.
A friend of mind, who played the Wraith as Killer in the custom match where this event happened to us, uploaded a clip here. You can see they tried to pull the player out of the locker, but simply couldn't. It is not a specific issue of The Doctor, reddit users have experienced with The Plague and The Shape as well. I believe it is directly associated with interacting with lockers rather than issues with the Killer.

I'm adding two links to reddit videos where this issue has occurred to other players.

I main Pyramid Head as my Killer and, although I'm awful at playing Killer, I get hate every now and then from Survivors.
I guess we just happened to like the "wrong Killer" that some survivors don't like to go against, but it's not on you or the Killer's design. People just dislike things because they can and are vocal about it. Don't take it personal.

I am staring at this thread and the subsequent responses and all I can say is...

Like a week or so ago I had a game on Midwich against a Pig. Someone DC'd IMMEDIATELY upon loading into the map, so it was too late to actually cancel the match, and they had the DC icon on the hud as soon as it appeared. My friend and I felt really bad, but we did do a gen at first, and then we went looking for the killer. Wasn't sure if she'd actually be down for some farming so I tested the waters with the crouch and boop, she accepted, and we had a really fun time (at least I hope she did as well!). She led us to the boxes, even crouched and 'did a gen' with us. The third survivor eventually joined in toward the end, but for the most part she sort of just did her own survivor thing, which is fine! At the end, Pig came to the exit with us and we said bye. Was just a fun match, and I just wish she had been on PS4 as well so I could've thanked her for it!
As a way of thanking cross-platform wholesome Killers or Survivors, I give them thumbs-up in the Feedback/Report section after match.
I don't know if they actually receive the message I send there, but I assume it counts for something. It's the category that says something like "Amazing teammate, overall knowledgeable on the game or fun to play against". I also give them to players I just find really fun to play with, Survivors and Killers, regardless of farming.

Oh, I know. I'm sorry if I seemed rude. I was just making fun of the broken matchmaking system.
I admit I felt really powerful because I did manage to put one of the purple ranks twice on the hook.
-
I wish I had taken a screencap of my experience yesterday with my Rank 19 Killer facing green and purple ranks.
It was a hilarious match...
Not.

Well, I have a few stories that have really showed me the kindness of strangers on this game. I like to think most people are nice and the toxicity is just loud at times.
A few weeks ago, I had a mission where I had to survive a trial as Nancy. I had just gotten the Stranger Things DLC and I had her at the impressive level of 8. So, it had been a night of frustrations until this one game. I was paired with two SWFs and another person at random and we ended up against a Blight in Lery's Memorial. An awful map for a character like Blight, but also a map where I can't, for the love of myself, find anything. The other random person get killed half through the match and we were one generator to go when I end up finding one of the SWF duo. He signals me to go to a place and asks me to stay there. I was basically hidden behind a pillar and I couldn't understand what was going on... until then the other SWF came and they opened the hatch (that was behind the pillar and I didn't see it) and helped me escape. I know SWFs get a lot of hate, but that was one of the nicest experiences I ever had with them.
In several occasions, I have had Killers allow me to farm points after people DC. Whether they end up killing me or not, I don't mind afterwards, but I appreciate the gesture after people DC.. it's not their fault nor my own, but it sucks big time when it happens really early on and for no reason other than "killer I don't like" or "oh, I was hit, I must DC".
-
Oh, sweet summer child, I am Rank 19 for Killer and I was paired with red and purple ranks last night. Needless to say they bullied the hell out of me through the entire match.
Matchmaking is a joke sometimes.
-
In my experience, both Killers and Survivors can be toxic. Both can rely in scummy and tacky tactics then make the game as unfair and irritable as possible.
As a Survivor main, as long as I've played, I believe Survivors are potentially far more toxic than Killers. I believe this is because of 1v4 gameplay so I run into more Survivors than Killers per round.
-
There is no limit to how many times you can down them.
However, there is a bleed-out timer on the bottom when you down a survivor which starts running since the very first time a Killer downs them. Once the timer depletes they die.
-
I had the same thing happen to me against a Myers in MacMillan.
Devour Hope was cleansed twice and it retained the Exposed effect despite it. He was not able to kill us, so I do believe the Tokens did reset, but the effects did not.
@Mandy said:
Out of interest - did it accumulate more stacks after the DH "jumped totem"? Or did it only remain at the 3 stacks. Basically I am trying to find out if it went straight to 4 after the next unhook.
In my specific situation not related with OP, it was cleansed first right after the third token. Then, it was cleansed again after another hook.
I can tell it was Devour Hope because I tried to cleanse dull totems afterwards and the Killer knew exactly where I went in both occasions. So, Undying was doing its work. My guess is that it reset tokens since he was unable to perform a Mori animation on us, but the effects did not for some reason.
-
Felix, I was originally a Jake main until Felix was released then I'm just main-ing him ever since.
One of my best friends always plays as Jake so this makes it easier to distinguish us now, haha.
-
I wouldn't say it's much of a problem, really. Like, I legit prefer that than the paragraphs of hate I receive in purple ranks as a survivor in a uncoordinated team. However, I understand that it is tacky and of poor taste.
As a Killer, I am not great, honestly. I play one match daily for the extra experience and in an attempt to see if I can do one of the dailies for the Killers if I get the chance, but it's super obvious I'm never going for the 4K and just trying to enjoy a casual game and still experience some bad manners every now and then.
It's just the community really. It's not on you.
-
I accept my dead and hook myself so the entity can consume me. SHAME. SHAME. SHAME.
No, I'm kidding. Generally, the 3 generator situation only happens to me in Azarov's Resting Place, but I feel that map was specifically designed for that purpose and it's terrible.
If I'm in an coordinated team we tried to bait the Killer off to one side and have the others try to pop the last one on the furthest/most difficult place to patrol. It's a really uncomfortable situation whatsoever. Otherwise, we are probably going to die.
-
I have absolutely no idea how to counter Deathslinger since I rarely encounter him in SoloQ.
It makes me a super easy target for them apparently and while I loathe being tunnelled and proxy-camped (as it's been my experiences with them, sadly). I wouldn't DC against them... I really want to learn how to counter them so I'm less of an easy target.
This is terrifying whatsoever. The amount of DCs occurring for the most random reasons is distressing to say the least.

Strange. You might want to file a ticket in the bug department in this specific case.
The option should be there in Settings. It sounds like you may have some corruption in your game if it isn't.
-
I'm generally a nice Killer so I play fair and always get a laugh at panicking Survivors... so, it's not just Killers being weird.
I had a Survivor panic so bad she started dropping pallets on me when I wasn't even chasing her. I want it to be a sort of enjoyable session for new Survivors, but I get so many people that suicide on first hook and others than panic for no reason. So, I assume they are new and let them figure out the game mechanics without exerting pressure.
My general rule is "If you Max me on at least one Category and don't destroy my Totem, you are all free to go".
-
I just started playing the game about two months ago so I don't have a rather large catalogue of cosmetics just yet, but I just change it depending on my mood and what I feel like using.
You truly sound like one of the Killers that I'd truly enjoy playing against since you seem to have fun and scaring people with your Killer, ahaha.
-
The issue is generally a mentality of "play to win" rather than "play for fun". I can truly enjoy this game when playing with my buddies and we just laugh at how much we mess up while trying to "outplay" one another, but not in a competition kind of way.
While playing SoloQ, I must be one of the very few people that actually play without DS or Unbreakable as I'm actively not playing to win. Then, I am criticised by both Killers and Survivors by "not knowing how to play".
However, what @PigMainClaudette said should be something to take in consideration. DS and Unbreakable are responses to mechanics of the game that were abused by Killers and it's merely a crutch to a poorly thought design that requires a harder rework of the game direction to be sorted out. Until they can actually do that, there isn't much we as players can do than try to not abuse each other...
-
In the Creations forum, I suggested the possibility of creating a perk that allowed you to use Aura reading as a "Diversion" of sorts using crows.
Like I put it this way...
If you approach an non-startled crow, you press the Active Ability to form a bond with it. Whenever your Aura would be shown to the Killer, it reveals the crow's aura to the killer instead of yours. The crow is startled after its Aura is read. You can only form a bond with a crow at a time. With a cooldown of 120/90/60 seconds each time you use it. The bond is broken if the crow is startled.
I think other perks that combat aura reading with different applications could be useful. Of course, you couldn't run Distortion with this at the same time much like you can't run Unbreakable with Soul Guard.

The number of people that don't know Hag's traps won't be triggered by crouching over them is impressing sometimes.
I admit I didn't know when I started playing, but sometimes it's like "Pal, you are rank 10, you should know this??"
I just had a match where I was crouching to try to unhook a Jane and then a Feng player came in and triggered FOUR TRAPS on my face. We all died, but it was a hilarious moment. It will be my highlight of FENG NO from now on.
Back in topic, as many have pointed out... traps won't be triggered while you are crouching or doing an interaction with anything. You might as well heal on top of one and it won't trigger.
-
It's one shaped like a large Roman I, right? Yep. It's the thin passage in the middle what makes it really cluttered.
Three generators on one side, three in the other, one in the middle... yeah. Survivors are guaranteed to end up three-genning themselves and Killers will probably end up proxy-camping three generators.
