I'm seriously confused where all this DH hate comes from. I don't think it's significantly better than other exhaustion perks. Of course you can more freely choose when to use it, but its duration is a lot shorter and it works only when injured.

Saying it requires no skill is just not true (not that perks should require skill). It's safe to say that I have no skill with DH. I can't even remember when was the last time it actually helped me any longer than for about 3 seconds. That's why I rarely use it, I can't get much value out of it. If it didn't require any skill, it should have saved me most of the time.

When I play killer, most of the time Dead Hard can't save other survivors either. Usually there are no windows/pallets nearby so their DH in the open doesn't do much.

I watch a lot of red rank killer streams and yes, I see tons of DH in those videos. Funny thing is that majority of those DHs doesn't even help, streamers still complain how annoying DH is, and yet they 4k most of the time. Just where are those players who can prolong the chase 60 just by bringing a perk.

Maybe you haven't seen how well it can be used for distance idk? I run into the perk frequently and yes, many survivors don't actually use it well and just aren't the best with it. But there are also quite a few who do. We are just having different experiences it seems, but there are definitely survivors who use the perk very well.

Ok, maybe perks shouldn't require skill, but a reasonable activation condition on both sides especially if it is a perk with a powerful effect. For example, pop can be used for 45 seconds after the killer hooks a survivor, surge requires an m1 to down a survivor while near gens. Same thing for other survivor perks, BT works if you are saving someone while in the killer's terror radius, DS works (not for long though) for a minute after being unhooked. Dead hard on the other hand...

To me and many other people, dead hard is a very frustratingly annoying perk because it requires no special activation condition other than being injured. Lithe needs a window, smash hit (coming soon) will require a pallet, adrenaline requires all gens to be done, head on needs a locker to activate, and SB isn't always used to get distance on the killer.

About SB btw, people say that it's also used to get more distance on the killer than dead hard, but the thing is it is not always used for that. If you are using sprint burst effectively, that means you use it all the time to switch off of gens, run over to rescue teammates, and possibly get distance from the killer. It is used to shorten your travel time to objectives and can sometimes be used to evade the killer. If you are using the perk well, you should be exhausted for a good chunk of the match you are in.

Dead hard as I said above only requires you to be injured to be able to use it. It also only requires the push of a button, the E key or whatever button on console. It makes me feel cheated to make a great mindgame only for the survivor to press a button and make it away.

  • I thought it was just me, I usually don't say this often but like what the hell dude lmao

I got 3 nurses in a row and they all happened to use ruin as well, they were different killers each time as well (they were also all really good). That was the only weird thing I experienced last time I got on DBD.

I like how you mention this and not the Killer that can teleport by using the breath of people she killed.

Or the killer who has infinite vomit, or the killer that can literally go into god mode, or the killers who can run at mach 5.

Le sigh... I think you've just demonstrated that you've no idea what you're talking about.

For a start... if the Spirit is standing still, that's a perfect time to make distance because (a) she's only 110% so it's harder for her to catch up that 115% killers, and (b) if she's faking it by just standing there, then the longer she lets you run without phasing, the worse her position becomes. She'll have to phase, and now you know she's phasing so you can counter-play accordingly. Or she'll just let you go, and you've escaped.

    Simples.

How did I demonstrate that I don't know what I am talking about? You didn't even back this statement up.

    a) Because she's a 110% killer she relies on her phase to catch up to you, she moves almost twice as fast as you when phasing and making distance will only work if you are already 20-24 meters away from here when she starts to phase. When she stands still and you run, she will literally catch up to you most likely before you get to another tile.

    b) A good spirit will almost never fake phasing by standing still. Any good spirit knows that the best way to catch you is to follow you with a phase walk. At most, a spirit will fake a phase once against any good survivors.

And no, these are not counters. As I have said, counterplay is something that you can react accordingly to. My examples about huntress's hatchets or moonwalking at a tile are things you can react to.

I am not saying that you should always be able to outplay a killer 100% of the time, but there needs to be something you can react to and possibly outplay which depends on both the player's skill.

  • This game literally has a killer who can chuck hatchets across the entire map.

In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have been so rude, but this is the 3127802431702137th "nerf spirit" topic that gives a nerf idea to "make her more FuN" which destroys Spirit. I'm honestly tired of debunking the same claims repeatedly and unmasking the person making the suggestion as someone who is biased while clearly explaining why.

I also already read, considered, and refuted the entire suggestion. It's "healthy" for exactly one side, which reveals bias.

And yes, you are survivor biased because of the reasons I already stated: A massive nerf that favors Survivor and shows a complete lack of understanding of the killer being nerfed, the typical buzzwords, doubling down on things.

You may "like to think of yourself' as a 50/50 person, but this nerf specifically shows that you don't understand what you're talking about and that you're focused on one side's "fun". There are certain nerfs and buffs that immediately reveal if someone is biased, period, and I can specifically name some of these and I have a feeling you WOULD agree with me:

-wanting loops or pallets removed altogether

-wanting a top tier killer buffed even more with no nerfs

-wanting a major perk for one side buffed to the heavens or nerfed into the ground with no compensation or actually acceptable explanation

-wanting the killer to not be able to m1 or use their power

-wanting a top tier killer nerfed into the ground with no buffs

And these may sound ridiculous and like nobody would make them, but it gets my point across: Proposed buffs and nerfs that don't consider the other side in the slightest and are focused on making one side better even if the other side suffers. That's bias.

You mentioned "buffing Spirit", but everything else showed that you don't understand how Spirit works and how this change would kill her chase potential and make her pretty much mobility only.

If you are tired of these posts and, then don't read them or comment on them. And this still doesn't excuse you for being rude.

You keep saying I don't know what I am talking about, but you aren't even giving yourself a chance to think about this "glimpse" feature. You are just saying I am survivor-biased without actually giving my second post a chance. This first thread was understandable, but my second one you already said you wouldn't look at but maybe you should. I do agree that I came off as survivor biased this thread, but you can't seem to get past that and instead assume that I am just someone who is completely survivor biased. I mentioned buffing spirit to compensate but didn't provide some options, my mistake. If you would just read my second post about this, you might think differently.

Also no, I do not agree with any of those listed points. You are just being rude and condescending now. At least read my second post about the new ideas I brought up instead of just telling me how bad this is and how survivor biased I am (even though I have made several posts that can help you see that I am not survivor biased).

Seriously, not responding to these 'people' is the ABSOLUTE WORST THING you can do to them. Pisses them off no end lol.

Your response to them is the very sustenance they feed on before they crawl back in to their rotting human skin suit and awkwardly stilt about in a shambolic, woefully inadequate attempt at human likeness, desperately pretending not to be a poorly programmed alien robot npc spider with the most basic of dialogue macro options (and failing miserably in the process).

I usually keep my encounters short and sweet. They end up commenting on my steam profile then lol. Getting the last word in and leaving is also very effective. You don't even have to try hard coming up with a clever response since they will be set off by anything.

For example, "you're actually *** and I hope you tub youre toe"

    response: "gg"

A stupidly easy and simple response like that actually works because I say nothing afterwards so they think I left (as killer in the end game chat) and just read what they say.

But that's the thing. It CAN be useful. It has the possibility. However, you don't get guaranteed value, like with windstorm or swift hunt. I don't use this add on for the same reason I don't use hex perks. They're too inconsistent.

I wouldn't say that, it is almost always useful imo but that is just us having different experiences. It shouldn't work all the time and you shouldn't get insane value out of it every game, but it does work quite a bit in the average match at least for me.

  • @Roar_Tenken said:

Not in my opinion. I don't run into stealth much as wraith, so it does nothing.

Combined with MYC it can be pretty useful, and even if survivors don't stealth you will still end up finding them every once in a while just randomly because you didn't know where they were.

Does it count if it was mid game on a Twitch chat instead of end game?

I sometimes go rewatch games vs ttv people if they were live during our game. So, while I knew I had a TTV, I didn't know they were in a 4 person SWF.

What I did know is threefold.

    1. I hate keys. The fastest way for you to get me to tunnel you out of the game is to bring one.
    2. The Christmas Claudette brought a Key.
    3. I had queued as Pyramid Head who... kind of specializes in tunneling.

Then half way through the game after Christmas Claudette was dead, they put in Twitch chat "I brought a key for this." subtext being that they were sad/disappointed/annoyed that they wasted a very strong item on a terrible game. Mate... the game turned terrible for you the second you brought the key. Seriously... just about every Survivor should know at this point that bringing a key frequently buys you a 1 way ticket to Tunnelville.

One second is too short? Did you read my comment? No, glimpses shouldn't exist period, it's TMI. You need to think of something else and stop listening to Jund and Otzdarva.

And yeah, I WAS being rude/harsh without insulting you. Because I'm right, and you pulled out the "I play both sides" card, like there isn't only two sides to play in this game, making this not valid. Not to mention that you think I said "Survivor main", not "Survivor BIASED". Which you are, and still clearly are, because you're doubling down.

And of course, you're doing the same "BUT A GOOD -INSERT KILLER-" goalpost move that people in Otz's server do as well to justify nerfs: Balancing the game around the 2% of players who spend the time to learn a killer or understand how they work.

"And no I don't want survivors to just walk over the spirit either, I wanted to see what we can do with this idea to change spirit to be more fun to go against but still strong."

"I don't want survivors to just walk over spirit... I just want survivor to just walk over spirit by implementing a nerf that destroys any chase potential. :)"

Ok, well just because you think you are right doesn't justify being rude.

I may have misinterpreted what you said, but I am not survivor biased. I like to think of myself as a very 50/50 person when it comes to this game and yes, me agreeing with this main idea may make it seem otherwise, but I made a mistake by setting the glimpses to just a mere one second. I think you should really think about how glimpses of the spirit while she phases could be healthy.

Try commenting on my second post in case you somehow feel a little better with the changes.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2047797#Comment_2047797

No, you don't get my point.

It is not a binary situation, there are more than two outcomes.

    She could be standing still.

    She could be phasing.

That's two possibilities, but it doesn't tell you; where she is, where she's going, where she thinks you are.

You have many different directions you can go in, besides "towards her husk" or "standing still".

"You don't know for sure which of the TWO things she can do, so there's nothing you can do" is total bullshit. You can do so many different things. Crouch, run, to the left, to the right, over the pallet, through the window, in a locker, behind the rock, etc. You read the map and you react. Facing the spirit is al about acting unpredictably, react to what you have, and do something she's not expecting. Running towards her husk is one of the things she WILL be expecting, the other is running towards the nearest loop, or vaulting over the nearest pallet, etc. Don't Do Those Things.

SOMETIMES you will be outmanoeuvred, that's just the nature of the game. Sometimes the Trapper will chase you directly into a trap, sometime the Hag will put a trap in a random spot you never expected a trap to be, sometimes the Nurse will just accidentally blink right next to you, and sometimes the Spirit will corner you so that your options are reduced to running away or running to her husk. THEN it's 50/50. But that's the game, you either chalk it up to your mistake in getting cornered, or the killers skill in herding you to where they wanted you to go.

Alright, my mistake and you can do something about it, but that is still not counterplay. None of what you are saying will work most of the time if the spirit is good. Even if it does work out, you just got lucky or the spirit messes up. Sure, you can try to increase the chance of the spirit messing up, but she will have her power back in about 10 seconds.

You are reacting to nothing but just running around hoping the spirit will mess up her phase.

The fact that the spirit can hear every little movement you make makes it incredibly one-sided and impossible to make any good decision because you can't tell when she's phasing. If you vault a window and she misses her phase, then she will get it right back and start again about 10 seconds later. Even though you didn't get hit, you just guessed and the situation happened to work out for you.

So basically, you can do many things to try and make the spirit mess up her phase, but it is not guaranteed to work. This is also not a counter to playing against spirit's phasing as well because there is nothing you are reacting to other than her standing still (which means she could be phasing or standing still). In essence, you are making it harder to hit you, but it will not work against a good spirit, and sometimes you will just get lucky.

  • @Seraphor said:

I mean, if "standing still" isn't enough of an indication that she's phasing...

What exactly are you going to do differently?

Just assume that she's both where she's standing, and also 'making her way towards you' at the same time. Instead of running back to where she's stood, run/walk/crouch in one of the many other directions.

She could be phasing... or she could just be standing still. But since there is no indication we won't know for sure.

Just "assuming" is not counterplay, like I said guessing is not counterplay to her. Even if you know for a fact when she is phasing, you have no other information since she can still find you, but you can't locate her.

  • You know it is not great when you are just not excited for it. I am definitely not excited about the trickster, but rather blight and wraith's changes.

  • @PlaysByShady said:

So who's going to point out that if you can catch a glimpse of the Spirit while she's phasing (and I don't see people arguing she should catch glimpses of the survivors in the same stead), this completely negates her ability to mind-game because you'll be able to tell which way she's going, etc.

Clearly some of you have never played Spirit for any significant period of time.

In many cases, Spirit doesn't phase, run and hit a target immediately. There's standing around and searching for where the survivor went and/or is going, and if you can glimpse exactly where she is when she's trying to figure out where you went, it negates the point of her power.

Seriously... just play Spirit, learn how her power works, and you'll realise you already have the tools to counter-play her. Don't just assume she doesn't have counter-play because you don't know what it is and refuse to learn it.

I have played quite a lot of spirit, I have been playing her since her release frequently. And yes, I also know how her power works. In fact, I know enough to know that she does not have counterplay.

Counterplay is a reaction you do that is the opposite of the action that the killer makes. For example, if a trapper hides his red stain, if you stand still and watch out for it then that is counterplay. Huntress has her hatchet wind up, you can start baiting it out and breaking LOS when she starts. Even with Nurse you can do something or react to whatever she is doing.

But the spirit has none of this.

The spirit gives absolutely no indicator of when she is phasing, and her power is very one-sided because of it since there is nothing to react to. If you vault a window or drop a pallet, you are just guessing and hoping she messes up. You are trying to just hope you bait her into making a mistake. Sure, iron will and spine chill can sometimes help, but it is not a guaranteed fix. It just makes her work harder to get that hit on you, you are still completely in the dark as to when she is phasing.

  • @GrimReaperJr1232 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2047626#Comment_2047626

Couldn't you say giving glimpses would do the same?

If you heard her, cool.... is she doubling back and tricking you? Is she still heading towards you?

You both have to make a read of each other and act on it.

Though, I will concede that perhaps my statement was a bit much.

Glimpses would sort of do the same, the difference was that the bug for spirit one time had a much quicker frequency giving survivors a very accurate idea of where she was.

If I remember correctly, survivors kept staying on stronger pallets or windows and vaulted once they heard your immediate location. It wasn't the most accurate representation of where you were as spirit, but it was enough to know when you could commit to an action as survivor. So you did get decent info on when she is phasing, but you had to listen closely and then commit.

The glimpses will give survivors a more accurate indication as to where she actually is when phasing and will also allow mindgames for both sides. The mindgames should be in the spirit's favor if she is good enough (since she will always hear the survivors), but unless the devs somehow read this thread and try it out we will never see this in action to see if it is good.

If that bug made you worthless as a Spirit, I'm sorry, but you need to actually get good with her.

To be fair, that bug was pretty bad in all honesty. Every second or so you could hear where the spirit was phasing because of the sound. This made it a lot easier. You can't really say that you just need to git gud when there is something unintended happening to the killer that puts her at a disadvantage. All you had to do was listen for the spirit on a medium to longer loop and she would never be able to catch you, all it took was good hearing.

  • @Aquamarine said:

Again. Perks are supposed to help the user and give advantage, they DONT NEED counterplay. Let survivors keep their strong perks, you have your own.

The amount of value anyone can potentially get out of this one perk that can be used multiple times and stack on four survivors with no skill required to use it is far too much.

  • @1nsignia said:

I think if they made the spirit get all vein-y from like she does on the killer side removing the 50/50 at the pallet and rewarding observant survivors.

I think it should stay as it is. I think it should reward quick survivors since her glimpses show up for a short time and every 2 seconds which is enough time for the spirit to get close enough for a hit most of the time, so the skill would rely on predicting the spirit and having good reaction time.

  • The glass shard thing has been proven and it is true, but it is unreliable since you need to be close to the spirit and that that point she can probably hit you normally since you are so close.

The animations resetting is a bug if I remember correctly and also unreliable because it is inconsistent.
