I think it would depend on whether there was ever another killer designed that had the absolute strength of Nurse - she's so strong that she really has to have the reduced movement speed to have any sort of counterplay.

And she STILL doesn't have counterplay, She's so busted that it's basically entirely up to the Nurse how the match'll go, Im not saying that's bad, I've been playing this game for over 4 years at this point and have only seen such a Nurse maybe 5 times, but I think it's interesting how drastically skill dependant Nurse is.

But when will be the next time a chapter will be free?

I'm not here to milk BHVR dry, but i also can't deny getting chapters for free.

I know they said they'd do that "whenever they can do it", but you'd think that would be by now thanks to the Rift being a thing, a buttload of cosmetics, and more people playing on average than ever.

Also, it's probably just an outdated quote by now.

Never, Behaviour turned into an extremely greedy company.

I never said i didn’t enjoy the chase i do agree that chasing and being chased takes skill my main complaint is that what the majority of a chase comprises is just running around the same tile like a cartoon character until someone makes a mistake or outplays the other person and generally if it’s the survivor who outplays the killer the survivor doesn’t try to lose the killer they instead just run to the next loop to repeat the cycle over and over until all gens are done or they get caught

and i do agree with you that stealth without doing the objectives is bad but i think it can be used well as an interesting alternative to looping

Fair enough, but looping IS dbd, you'd have to change the game from the ground up to transform the chases into something else than looping.

  • @justtrynaplay said:

So after having played this game for quite some time as both killer and survivor i can say without a doubt that looping and being looped are in my opinion some of the most boring moments of gameplay that i have experienced second only to doing survivor objectives so i thought i’d make a post here to see if others agree or disagree and maybe people could give justifications to their opinion

as survivor looping is quite boring because there is no variation it is usually just run around a tile until either the window gets blocked or the pallet is dropped and destroyed whilst there is skill involved it just feel boring especially when the most optimal way to do this is to do so until the killer loses interest rather than when the killer loses sight of you

as killer survivors do as above and you either have to mind game which only really works if there is a line of sight blocker or hope they mess up if it’s in the middle of nowhere and it becomes even more boring with slow killers or killers that have to brute force the loop

another thing is that people generally get ######### on for running stealth perks and while i do find the people who just hide and do nothing annoying stealth does feel like an interesting way to shake things up

so basically i want to know the communities thoughts about looping and other potential playstyles that may be better or just more fun for both sides

Chase is the only skillfull and fun part of the game lol, since you dislike that, Im genuinely curious what it is that you find fun in dbd.

In regards to stealth, it's boring on both sides and I really struggle to believe that someone who actually knows the game could believe otherwise. A p3 Claudette or a p1 Bill stealthing around the whole match is like the most boring ######### ever as killer and it's not like the other side's doing much more. Literally the last time I played immersively and stealthily in dbd was when I decided to ######### around with friends and roleplay baby survivors with Urban Evasion lmao.

  • Regardless of people's feelings on the matter, the one thing that is objectively not cool is BHVR sneakily making the rift grindier again by reducing the amount of challenges. This rift is almost as grindy as the 1st one was, which took around 200 hours to complete (I remember Paulie did a video on that), it seems that after the 2nd and 3rd turned out to be fair, they went back on their decision, afterall, you're supposed to buy the last few tiers.

This is exactly right. There are a few perks like this (Technician for example) that aren't intended to be very useful to veteran players.

But why are those perks hidden behind a paywall ? Perks like Visionary, Windows of Opportunity or Zanshin Tactics are all usefull only for beginners with ~5 hours, yet they're all hidden behind a paywall, it makes no sense and is honestly pretty inappropriate.

  • The game has no ranking system. Ranks have nothing to do with skill, people at rank 1 are just as bad as the ones at rank 10. In general, 90% of the game's community is really bad, but that's a topic for a different discussion entirely, so overall always focus on improvement rather than rank, since there is no such system.

  • I wouldn't be surprised to see the changes in mid-october, in the next mid chapter patch

  • Bad survivors.

The game is killer sided only if the survivors are total potatoes, otherwise it's the killer that has to tryhard as ######### to do anything.

Killer queues are only longer in the morning from 8 A.M. PST until 1 P.M. PST. After that the queues for killer drop significantly for the rest of the 20 hours of the day. Even on PC.

afaik not true for the majority of PC players. Personally I used to have ~10 minutes killer queues unless I played in the late evening/night, crossplay is a literal godsend to me, because I can finally play killer at normal hours.

  • Yeah ... Im extremely dissapointed with the legendary skins so far ... Im all over paying more for a legendary skin, but it should be worth the cost and offer atleast SOMETHING unique ...

  • Nope, it's still just a regular Oni ... No new animations, no new sounds, they didn't even bother changing his kanabo :(

  • @Peanits said:

We are looking into cases where queue times are excessively long for some people (i.e. 10+ minutes). Those are definitely out of the ordinary. In the vast majority of cases, however, it comes down to the amount of people playing each side in your region and platform at that time. I used to get instant killer matches as well, but in the past few weeks my killer queues have gone up to 2-3 minutes during the day, then drop back down to nearly instant at night.

For the most part, it has to do with the number of people on each side. If there's a lot of people playing killer, there may not be enough survivors to fill all of their lobbies. Meanwhile if there's a lot of people playing survivor, there may not be enough killers to host those survivors. It can vary from region to region, platform to platform, and the time of day.

Yeah for me (a killer main) the game is literally unplayable during the day, as the queue times are at least as long as the match itself (7-10 minutes), they do drop to nearly instant at night, but being forced to play at a specific time of day when the game has 50k players online, is a terrible sign.

  • @Peanits said:

They can. It greatly increases the chances of going to that realm, but it's not guaranteed.

but since the modifier is literally 9999, while the old ones had 2 and 5, doesn't it mean that the chance of not getting the map is like ... really small?

  • @Artick said:

    "Ony is a weaker Billy"

    "Billy is a weaker Oni"

Can you guys make up your mind?

Oni was weaker than Billy, but if the nerfs go live unchanged, Oni will be stronger than Billy. I really don't see what is it that you don't understand.

  • They have 1 good perk, but the killer itself is in my opinion boring, weak and is not skill expressive at all. They used to be just straight-up awfully designed (like ... Terribly), but now they're just bad and boring.

  • @twistedmonkey said:

Yes they are overpowered but technically that is by design. Its a game more about fun than balance and I feel players look too much towards an outcome of winning or 100% balance than just enjoying the game for what it is.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I do think that things that are there purely "for fun" do have a place in DBD, but both moris and keys are unfun. On both sides. It's pretty obvious that losing just because the enemy team has a Mori/Key is unfun, but even using this isn't fun ... It's a pretty hollow victory, because you know you didn't outskill anyone, you just brought an op af item/offering in, sure it can sometimes be fun when you escape by an inch with a key or Mori a toxic survivor (still only for the user's side.), but those are such edgecases ... It's not worth keeping such unhealthy things in the game just for said edgecases.

  • @Peanits said:

The quotes are great and all, but I am willing to bet that you'll probably be tired of them by the time the event is over. Not to mention that some of the loading screen tips are actually helpful to new players, like the ones that teach you how to play against a killer your first few times you play against them. I do love the layout of the anniversary loading screen, though. Something about it is just so refreshing. I guess just having something different after four years of playing just spices it up.

Do you think it'd be possible to make unique loading screens a permanent part of events ? As in, have a new loading screen for every event ? I'm sure many people would love that !

  • Of course they're exclusive ! For now ... More than likely everyone will get them sooner or later.

  • Yeah ... As a veteran playing since summer 2016 I feel a bit betrayed, it's not a huuge deal but the bad taste in mouth is there :(

  • I agree, I wonder if there's even any reason to grind for the crowns in today's event, very likely they'll be given to everyone anyway...

  • Imagine a friend giving you a bracelet to signify your many years long friendship, only to someday have him give the same kind of bracelet to a girl after a week of acquaintanceship. You still have the bracelet, but it's nowhere near as important ...

For many people it's not about the cosmetics, it's about the meaning behind them.

  • @Orion said:

Why does anyone care? You still did what you did, this doesn't change that. If I have a 1000 € salary and someone else gets 1000 € as a lottery prize, is my money suddenly worth less? Is my effort now useless because someone else got the same thing in an easier way?

To be honest, I don't think comparisons to real money are representative of the situation ...

Money is ... Well, money, while these event cosmetics served as a token of dedication for many people and it's natural that when stripped from said token many people feel betrayed. A more accurate metaphor would be something along the lines of a friend giving you a bracelet to signify your many years long friendship, only to someday have him give the same kind of bracelet to a girl after a week of acquaintanceship. You still have the bracelet, but it's nowhere near as important ...

For many people it's not about the cosmetics, it's about the meaning behind them.

  • @Peanits said:

It's not a matter of prioritizing newer players over older players, it's actually quite the opposite. Back then, the way event cosmetics were stored were much less secure than recent events, and it made them susceptible to loss of progress (the reason why we needed to return them to people in the first place). We originally decided to return them only to the people who had earned them in specifically to not alienate long time players who had worked for them. Despite our best efforts, there were people missing who should have received them and didn't: The data we had at the time was not robust enough to catch everyone.

So in short, some of the people who did work for and earn them didn't receive their cosmetics back, and there was nothing we can do for them. Those long time players were out of luck. The idea of not alienating long time players ended up alienating those long time players.

It's unfortunate, yes, but leaving those people behind is not an option. This is the fairest way we can handle the situation. This shouldn't be a problem for future events as the way we store rewards now is much more secure.

Can we take that as confirmation that our exclusive event cosmetics that we have to grind for during a certain, short period of time, will from now on, actually and rightfully stay as exclusive event cosmetics that we have to grind for during a certain, short period of time ?

  • They have just announced that they'll be giving the remainding 4 event cosmetics to everyone.

It's extremely dissapointing to see dedicated players, veterans who have played this game for years get prioritized lower than new players like this, constantly ... Not only by giving things we've grinded for (even during the worst patch in DBD's history, the Blind/pallet stun change) away to everyone, but also by doing nothing with the lost Legacy cosmetics for players who actually deserve them ...

I know it's ultimately an insignificant affair, I know my opinion doesn't matter, and I know that many players will even be happy with this change ... But personally I feel dissapointed and maybe even a little betrayed ... What do you guys think ? And also, why did you choose to do what you did, bhvr ?

EDIT:I see my post's been merged with this one, which is also dissapointing, since my title was much more ... provocative, "Why would I bother grinding out the anniversary cosmetics if they'll be given away to everyone anyway" ... Almost like they want to just toss it under the rug and move on -_-

  • @Deathslinger said:

I think it as another layer of mind game that killers haven’t had time to explore yet. I think it has some potential to combo effectively with mobile killers or some perks. Maybe Freddy for example. He can teleport after kicking a gen and be opposite of the kicked gen or Hag with that add on to teleport to any trap. Plus it already confuses survivors using Better Together. Usually a perk like this gains value over the game progression. Like next chapter will have a perk that helps a survivor know when a gen is more then 50% done by highlighting it yellow. Now that killer perk can be used to both notify a survivor that a killer is near or that a gen is near completion. I say keep it as is.

All survivors can hear whenever Freddy teleports, so this won't work.

Very few people use Better together, if anything even less will now.

Leaving a terribly designed perk in because some things that make it slightly better may get added is not a good idea ... It's an absolutely awfull perk, which should get reworked asap, I really hope BHVR won't just toss it under the rug and hope people forget about it ... But considering how many times this has already happened ...

  • @Boss said:

There were no Totems back then.

Generators also took a minute instead of 80 seconds.

    No regression existed.

Brand New Parts completed a Generator instantly.

If we had current Survivors in that version of the game, you'd see some unbelievable genrushing.

Good ol' days XD Jezz Im so glad the game's different now ...

Although it is worth noting that even with all you mentioned, no entity blockers and countless infinites ... The game seemed pretty balanced, because nobody had any idea how to play :D

  • They definetly should. They won't because from what I've seen for the past 4 years, BHVR isn't the best at long term investments, but hey we can all dream ...

  • I agree, In my opinion both moris and keys are extremely unhealthy for the game. Both of those are not only awfull for DBD's competetive nature, they're also plain unfun (On both sides. Yes, even for the user) because they're basically a "free win", there's no satisfaction to feel.

  • Nope, the oldest Torment disappears first.

Funnily enough, I just finished a match and the issue still persists ... Torment on stairs just dissapears in 3 seconds.

  • @Wiktorox said:

The Rites of Judgement work perfectly fine on stairs. They only disappear the same as any other instance: too close to gens, hooks, or exit switches.

I know of the rule, but it seems like even when nothing else is around they just dissapear on stairs ... Maybe I am in the wrong though ... The punishment still doesn't work tho :P

Hemorrhage would probably be only useful if it made survivor bleed while uninjured

Freddy's purple add-on actually does that, and no. It still does nothing 99% of the time (which is better than all the time) and is not worth being a purple.

  • I agree, BHVR drastically overvalues hemorrhage as a status effect, they think it's a decent effect when in reality it's the worst effect in the whole game, 99.9% ... No ... 100% of the time it does absolutely nothing, in my over 2k hours of maining killer I've never once gotten actual use out of hemorrhage. It's a joke of an effect and the fact that BHVR keeps putting it on everything shows their lack of knowledge about certain areas of their game.

  • @tixerp said:

I still think $15 is a ridiculous price personally. It singlehandedly costs more than 2 DLCs, and almost the price of the game itself. At this rate, BHVR's gonna make this game free to play and go off the deep end for skins and prices.

    IMO prices should be:

    Green: $3

    Purple: $6

    Legendary: $8-$10

BHVR used to be more consumer friendly. There used to be some cool cosmetic packs for only $3 that have way more than you could ever buy in the store right now with double that amount.

I do think that overall the amount of microtransactions in this game is absolutely absurd, it's a paid game with paid DLC, paid cosmetics and a paid Battle Pass, but as an individual item, I think $15 is fair for a cosmetic of exceptional quality, which it is not.

About the whole F2P thing, honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they did it someday, because currently everything from the grind to the microtransaction structure looks like a F2P game.

  • @Peanits said:

Good to know, I'll mark it on my calendar. The many other "game will die" predictions that came up over the past four years haven't been right so far, but I'm sure you're onto something this time in spite of the game steadily growing since release.

So savage Im now legitimately scared of you 😖

  • @tixerp said:

And price. $8-$10 is the absolute maximum someone should be asked to buy a cosmetic for. Even that's a bit pricey. But for Legendary, sure.

Not neccesarily, I'd be willing to pay the $15 price point, assuming the skin's quality was wayyy above average, which it currently isn't. The voice and animations have to also be different for this purchase to be acceptable at all, but with those features I think it would be acceptable.

Wouldn't be surprised if you got your Trusted status soon too, they've got to know how important you are here :v

  • That's a great change, really hope we'll get it in !

I really see no reason not to do it other then BHVR being scared of making strong perks (which Im afraid isn't really a topic for discussion anymore, pretty much a fact)

  • @Orion said:

I get the idea that survivors should probably be made aware that the killer is roaming while Undetectable, but there's a very simple way to make it work with this idea in mind: instead of making the killer Undetectable, have all survivors become Oblivious and remove the aura.

It's the same idea, survivors still become aware that the killer could come from anywhere at any moment, but now they know that they won't hear the terror radius or see the red stain.

That's actually very smart ! I kinda tunnel visioned the idea of Undetectable, and completely forgot about the Oblivious effect, I love this change mate :D

Hillbilly is one of the least fun characters to go against for a lot of people, or so it would seem.

If you have a look at the characters that people hate going against, they all follow a similar trend: Freddy, Nurse, Spirit, Hillbilly, Doctor........

You mean they all require something more than just looping ? The game needs killers that change things up though, atlest imo

  • There is no way they'll nerf Hillbilly, he's propably the best killer they have when it comes to balance

-strong but fair with weaknesses to exploit

-fun to use and fun to go against

-has a high enough skill ceiling to really allow great players to thrive with him.

Nerfing hillbilly would be like saying outright: "we don't want strong killers anymore, all we want are Mid tier killers with cooldowns and hinderances in their power" and there is no way they want their game to become this stale, one dimensional bs.

I know very well what kind of response I'll get for saying this, but that is indeed my belief (Because after 4 years, playing straight from the release, I still have no idea what they're thinking). If they do endup nerfing him then atleast I'll be sure what kind of developer BHVR is once and for all.

When I look at the average number of kills for Legion, it's right in the middle. They're not the best, they're not the worst. This is across all maps, all ranks. That's as much detail as I can go into on this.

Considering how broken the ranks are (veterans and total potatoes are put randomly with each other all the time), I really don't think the kill rate serves as an accurate measure.

I disagree, especially in light of such a terrible point for said player retention.

  • @Orion said:

    Because Silent Hill?

Yeah, but at this point it's a matter of priority, isn't people having an actually good experience more important than more people having an experience, but this experience being a rather negative one (in many cases just a negative one, since they'll barely get to play...)?

  • @Peanits said:

No, we are not kidding you.

It is clarified well enough, it's people's fault for not informing themselves well enough before purchasing, the bigger problem is the fact that the sets themselves often don't make much sense. All of Heather's cosmetics besides the legendary one make no sense as sets. I can see the Legion bunny ones being sets, and something like Bunny Feng should be a set (the hood without the proper jacket looks awful, period.), but Heather has unrelated cosmetics branded as sets.

I know this time they're sets for the sake of being sets, since sets are a new feature, it's nice to have some to sell, I just hope this doesn't become a thing, cuz sets used like this actively detract from the experience, rather than add to it. Sets should be unique cosmetics that just don't look well seperated (again, Bunny Feng is an example)

1 2 3 4 … 7
