You joking? Indoor maps are trash for Killers, and RPD is the new worst map to play on in the game.
Never before have I spent half the match knowing EXACTLY where Survivors are but been COMPLETELY unable to get to them. It's absolutely miserable.
I don't play killer. I was going based on the other person talking about how it was great for his Myers. I can see how that would be the case.
At the same time I see the point you're making. It's once a killer finds a survivor on this kind of map that makes it suck for survivors. The same thing that makes it hard for killers to get to the survivors makes it nearly impossible for survivors to lose them once they are found.

I disagree there too. I enjoy the map as a Survivor too. It is merely a matter of learning it. There is more than enough to juke Killers in there. Give it a few weeks. This map is a compromise between an indoor and outdoor map. It has qualities of both.
I hope you're right cause right now I'm hating it more than any other map and that's saying something

I'm loving the new map. It is Disneyland for my Myers. I'm also enjoying Lethal Pursuit.
I can understand that. For killers all these indoor maps are great. Not so much so for survivors.

Honestly they should have done the raccoon city streets. Would have made for a much more interesting map than RCPD.
I agree. Personally I would loved to have seen the little city center scene with the church and such from RE4.
-
Of all the potential maps that could have been made when utilizing something with such a huge range of options as Resident Evil BHVR chose to create yet another indoor map with tight spaces. It seems that's all they know how to do anymore when it comes to maps. They have zero creativity left in them. It's like they aren't even trying anymore. I wish I didn't love this game so much otherwise because BHVR has become stagnant when it comes to originality.
-
Because this isn't a team game. Unless you're part of an SWF squad this game is always 1 vs 4 even as a survivor.
-
The only challenges I mind are the ones that make people play stupid.
Things like unhooking 3 survivors in the same match. It just ends up creating a lot of matches where you have even more survivors then usual going for unsafe hook removals because they're trying to complete a challenge.
-
Most people greatly overestimate their own abilities. When they have a good match they attribute it to their superior skill believing their perks had little to to with it. When they have a bad match they refuse to consider that they didn't play well, they aren't as skilled as they believe, or the opposition was simply better. So they have to find somewhere else to place the blame. The easiest way to assure yourself your still a great player in that situation is to decide the other side isn't actually better than you, they just use perks that give them an unfair advantage.
I swear that mentality is behind the overwhelming majority of complaints in this forum.

As a main Survivor, I agree. If someone run to the hook while the Killer is around, it's the Survivor's fault.
If the Killer is around the hook and doesn't move away (probably because they think someone's around), I pretend to go for the save and take the Killer into a chase. I lead them away from the hook, so someone else can go for it.
People like to say "camping" and "tunneling" when they actually create the situation themselves. I don't say real camping and tunneling never happen, but seeing a Survivor coming to the save? Of course the Killer stays. "Ah, a Survivor coming, I should go away LOL."
Exactly. Even as someone that plays survivor exclusively I believe the majority of things survivors complain about are problems of their own creation.
-
I play survivor exclusively. It's annoying watching other survivors be that stupid. So I say make them pay for it.

The lesson here, as it usually is in threads like these: Only play a certain way, preferably the way that someone else wants you to play, lest you be criticized and mocked for being a poor player.
Alternate choice: I'm going to play however the hell I want and don't care what people have to say about it.
So much this. The amount of hubris it takes for someone to presume someone else can't be a good player if they don't do things in a way they approve of is hilarious. Perhaps that perk one person thinks is a crutch perk fits perfectly into the style of play for someone else and makes them a stronger player.

What's wrong with keys?
Statistically it's been said they have a very small success rate. Tiny.
A lot of effort to make them work. Must live, do enough objectives and actually find hatch.
I hardly used keys because it's rare for the hatch to spawn in a typical match and you spend so much time looking for it you can do a gen. Keys are not as common as killer mains make it out to be.
That's the part of this that has always made me scratch my head. I realize my experience is merely anecdotal but it's extremely rare I actually see a key used to open a hatch.

I play on PS4. Hardwired in with AT&T fiber 1 gig internet. I can play multiple hours of Fortnite, Call of Duty, or any other game online without even one second of lag ever, much less being disconnected. When I play DBD I get frequent lag and relatively frequent "no network connection" disconnects.
The issue started the moment they implemented dedicated servers for the PS4. I don't know why it affects some people and not others, but you aren't the only PS4 player that experiences this. Not only is DBD the only game it happens with, but it's the only thing I ever have any trouble with it all period. I can stream 4k movies from Amazon on WiFi 3 rooms away from my router and never buffer, but somehow DBD can't go without lag and disconnects connected to the router by ethernet.
-
Not a chance. I know lots of people love it. I call DS "Dead Soon" cause for me it's always been nothing more than a guarantee to be tunneled after using it.
-
Survivor perk:
Coward's Reward: You always try to complete your objectives. You've learned the hard way others will take advantage of that fact.
When it's down to 2 survivors if the other survivor hasn't attempted to work on objectives for 90/75/60 seconds their aura will be revealed to the killer until they have spent 5 seconds working on an objective. Your aura and scratch marks will be hidden from the killer during that time. Coward's Reward will continue to trigger at the above intervals.
***** This is a perk I would love to see
-
I've played this game since close to the beginning on PS4. I love the game itself. The fact I'm still playing it after all these years is testament to that. I have never played another game consistently for that long. Like others here I have been frustrated from the start with the little bugs that never get fixed. Regardless I enjoyed the game enough it was easy to overlook them.
When dedicated servers came to PS4 thing got significantly worse. From the start of the PS4 dedicated servers I began to have lag in every match. I experienced some before that, but it got significantly worse after. I began to be booted from matches because of "no network connection". I have AT&T fiber with a direct ethernet connection to my PS4. I can play hours and hours of Fortnite, Call of Duty, etc without so much as a second of lag, but playing DBD comes with constant lag and dropped connections. In other words the lag and dropped connections aren't my internet. If it was my internet I would be getting the same results with other games. The last time I experienced a connection issue with a game other than DBD was over a year ago, and that was a complete outage in my area. I get disconnected from the DBD servers often enought that I end up reaching 30 minute DC penalties and have to quit playing for a few days to keep from reaching a point of being banned.
I will continue to play DBD until I get bored with it. I think BHVR struck gold with the concept of this game. However, I came to the personal opinion a few months after the PS4 dedicated servers that BHVR could care less about the quality of the experience for their customers. I will never again even start playing another game with the BHVR label because the sheer frustration of dealing with their issues on an otherwise enjoyable game isn't something I want to go through again.

The ghostface reveal mechanic is one of the most reliable and consistent things in the game. If you're trying to reveal him you can rely on the fact it well be nearly impossible to do. If you're actively trying not to reveal him you will consistently do so.
-
The rank system on the survivor side unintentionally encourages a style of play that is often selfish and counterproductive to escaping.
-
My matches during mmr seemed to be extremely unbalanced. Not in just one direction. One match the killer would have 2 survivors out before a single gen got completed. The next match all 4 survivors world escape with the killer barely getting a couple hooks

By default, yes. Controller only has 1 interaction button. However, you can actually rebind the buttons. I've done so myself (I usually use Mouse and keyboard for Killer but I use controller for Survivor). I use an X-box controller and I rebound actions (Dropping pallets, vaulting, etc) to Y. That way, it wouldn't overlap with interactions (Healing, doing gens, etc). I used to play on PS4 myself. Perhaps you could rebind either actions or interactions to triangle? If I remember correctly, triangle isn't used for anything in DBD by default.
I haven't thought of trying that. I'll look and see if I can switch the buttons for those things. Not sure you can on PS4 but I'll look

They have about 1000 bugs to fix and about 15000 gameplay and balance issues to rework. That's why they sort bugs and issues according to their "urgency", and only work on the most urgent ones, because they don't have enough resources to work on everything at the same time. So "unurgent" bugs and issues can remain in the game for years. The devs will know about them, but won't spend resources on fixing it, until everything more important is done.
Got it. In other words this one is never getting fixed because bhvr will never consider it urgent.

You don't quite some to understand the stakes in play: a killer that refuses to snowball would be hooking survivors at 1 hook per minute. Which, by the way, is extremely generous. Perhaps the big 3 could cut down on that time, but not by much due to the physical limitations of travel time that even they must abide by.
The survivors, who'se base objective speed without perks or items is 3 minutes, are under absolutely no pressure. Assuming they are doing gens at half efficiency, and the killer gets their tunnel on, at the 6-minute mark the gates will be open, one person will be dead and 3 will escape.
That is not something that skill can avoid.
Edit: actually, no, I said that wrong. That is something skill can avoid, because an enormous part of killer is knowing how to snowball map pressure, of which slugging is an intergral part of.
You're trying to defend something I'm not condemning. I never once said slugging was unfair. I didn't say it should be banned or punished. I didn't say anyone is wrong for doing it. As a matter of fact I specifically said I understood why it was done and how effective it is. I simply stated I personally don't feel right doing it considering I how much I hate it from the other side. I even stated that was just my own personal thing, and I didn't think it made anyone else wrong for not feeling the same.
Slug all you want. I never said you shouldn't. It's a highly effective strategy. I don't have to personally like slugging, or agree to slug myself for you to do it and be completely justified in doing so.
-
A win is whatever the person playing thinks it is. I know someone that plays this game on the survivor side with the sole purpose to be the last survivor in every match they play. They don't care if they escape. They don't care how many points they have. They don't care about anything other than being the last survivor. If they've done that it's a win for them. I personally don't like it. I find it to be one of the most ridiculous winning conditions someone could have in this game. But if that's their winning condition and they accomplish it, they've won. Doesn't matter if I personally consider it a win or not.
-
I go through periods of time where I have this type of thing happen on the survivor side (survivor main) on a consistent basis. Sometimes while a match is loading, and sometimes during a match. I never have even a small network slowdown on anything else in my house.
The other day I had 3 matches in a row with the little symbol in the upper left corner indicating a slow connection. I actually got disconnected and received the "no network connection" error on the third one. Immediately after that I streamed a 4k movie from Netflix without any problem. After the movie I played a couple of hours of Fortnite without a single issue. The next thing I did was try to play DBD and got disconnected from my first match because of "no network connection".
My cable TV is streaming. I stream 4k Netflix. I play other online games through both PS4 and PC. I never have any network issues with any of those things. Yet I have frequent network issues with DBD. I've come to the conclusion my supposed network issues when playing DBD come from their end and not mine. I don't know if their dedicated servers are poor quality, ifthey don't have enough of them, or what the issue might be. I just know DBD is the only thing that ever gives me even a little bit of trouble.

Which means that you physically didn't have the time to win against vaguely decent survivors that didn't take 12 minutes to do the generators in a trial with a killer that refuses to snowball map pressure.
It isn't hypocritical to not enjoy going against the things you use or that you are forced to do. In fact, someone's opinion carries much more weight if they have extensive experience on both sides of the argument.
I have seen plenty of killers that don't do a lot of slugging, even in red ranks. There are really good killers out there that rarely slug. As for me feeling hypocritical slugging as a killer when I hate it as a survivor I would say 2 things.
First, I don't just hate being slugged as a survivor a little bit. I mean if slugging was much more prevelant I wouldn't play this game at all. I hate it that much. It completely removes every bit of fun from this game on the survivor side for me when it happens. That doesn't mean I think it should be banned/punished or anything else. I just happen to hate it.
Second, I actually understand why slugging is done. It's highly effective. I'm not condemning anyone that does it. At the same time I don't think I'm wrong for saying it feels hypocritical to me to do it to others considering how much I hate it, and you're not wrong for saying it doesn't feel hypocritical to you. It's personal opinion/feeling on both sides.
As for the fact I respect someone that won't play a certain way because of how much they hate it when it's done to them.... that isn't saying they are wrong or right anymore than I am. It's just saying it's a thought process that holds value to me personally.
-
For me the killer being played has nothing to do with whether or not they're boring. The most boring killer is someone that slugs. I understand why it's done and I'm not even condemning it. It's justthe most boring thing in this game to me, and there's not even a close second.

I play survivor exclusively. Here are my entitlements:
1) I'm entitled to play this game however I want to play it as long as I'm not breaking any rules...... so is everyone else
2) I'm entitled to not care at all what anyone else thinks about the way I play...... so is everyone else
3) I'm entitled to hold an OPINION about anything in this game...... so is everyone else
As far as I'm concerned those are my only entitlements.
-
I can only speak about the survivor side since that's all I play, but reaching red ranks as a survivor simply requires understanding how the rank system works. I can do the things I need to do in about 95% of my matches to ensure I pip. I can at least ensure I don't depip.
The thing is playing for rank isn't the same thing as playing to escape. I may do something counterproductive to escaping if I need points in a certain category to ensure I gain that all important pip.
That's not to say there aren't good survivors and teammates in red ranks. However, there are plenty of red rank survivors that appear to be playing brainless when I'm actuality they are simply playing for that pip and they don't care about anything else.
-
I would dare to guess the reason many think it's scummy would be a different perspective than the one you have in the original post. While you are correct to say slugging extends a survivors time in the match that doesn't necessarily equate to a good thing for everyone. I'm a perfect example. Personally I would rather be out of a match in 30 seconds as opposed to spending 30 seconds slugged only able to crawl. Slugging is the single most boring part of the game to me. In other words if you extend my match by slugging that is about the worst thing you could do to me. Every second spent crawling around feels like a minute to me. In other words for many extending time by slugging feels more like punishment than something good.
Having said all that I don't think slugging is scummy. It's a legit and extremely effective strategy. As long as someone isn't breaking rules I'm a firm believer that you can play however you want regardless of anyone else's opinion about it, including mine.
-
While I enjoy playing survivor more than killer that isn't the reason I am a survivor main. When I first started playing this game I played both pretty equally. I was actually doing quite a bit better as a killer than a survivor. The thing is for me to be a really good killer I had to slug and slug a lot. At the same time while playing as a survivor I absolutely hated being slugged. Slugging killers take every bit of enjoyment out of the game for me as a survivor. Given the choices of:
1) Play killer without slugging
2) Play killer and continue to slug
3) Quit playing killer.
It was a fairly easy choice. I couldn't enjoy #1 because I sucked that way. I couldn't do #2 because I personally couldn't enjoy utilizing a strategy against others that I that I despised so much when it was used against me. That meant the only enjoyable way for me to play this game was to not play killer.
I guess that means I don't think there is anything that would get me to want to play killer.
-
My own personal preference is that I never want to farm. To me it's boring beyond description. I would rather lose and lose badly several games in a row than have one single game where farming takes place. If I get notified in lobby that the killer plans to farm I will very nicely leave the lobby and let them find someone that wants to take part. If I get into a match and realize that is what the killer is doing I'll just DC and eat the 5 minute penalty.
I'm fine with a killer carrying the last survivor to the hatch or to the gate. That doesn't force anyone to play in a non-competitive match. If a killer doesn't give me the option in the lobby to opt out I'm totally against it. You shouldn't force people to have to make a choice between playing in a "non-match" or quit and get a penalty.
-
I go through cycles. I will get the same couple of maps almost every single match for a week or two. After that it will be like I'm stuck on 2 different maps for a week or two. I did have a stretch several months back where about 50% of my matches were swamp for about 3 months straight.
-
I have zero issue with people that want to farm. I have no issue with people playing just to complete a challenge. I have a major issue with being forced into either of those types of matches. I don't want to participate in either at all. If a killer sends me a message while we're still in the lobby that they plan to do one of those things I will politely bow out and allow them to find someone that wants to do it. If a match has already started and I get a message about farming I will just DC. I'd rather take a 5 minute penalty than be forced to run around for 10 or 15 minutes farming. If a match has already started and I see a message about completing a challenge I will do everything in my power to prevent that person from completing the challenge.
In other words people that want to play a match to only farm or complete a challenge are welcome to do so with others that want to participate. What they aren't welcome to do is decide they somehow have the right to make that decision for me.
-
As a console player the amount I'm slugged directly correlates to whether or not crossplay is on or off. Crossplay off and slugging is the exception. Crossplay on and slugging is the norm.
-
I was in the middle of a match the other day running from the killer when I suddenly froze. Couldn't move in any direction. All I could do was spin. Whatever caused that glitch also caused the killer to not be able to hit me. There's definitely some weird things that happen in this game.
-
I understand where you are coming from. There are 2 times I have come close to quitting this game.
The first time I was playing with the goal of becoming a rank 1 survivor. About the time I hit red ranks things started to change. The sweat I played with to be able to attain my rank goals was making the game less fun. The sweat from the other 4 players also contributed. It started to feel like a chore as opposed to something fun. I was about to quit then until I decided to scrap the idea of rank and just have fun.
The second time I nearly quit was right after crossplay was implemented. I play on PS4 as a survivor main. As soon as crossplay began the amount of matches I had where the killer slugged from the start went up exponentially. Don't get me wrong. I realize slugging is a valid strategy, and I'm not condemning it. It just happens to suck every bit of enjoyment out of the game for me. I actually quit for about 2 weeks until it occured to me to try turning off crossplay to see if it made a difference. Fortunately for me it made a huge difference. Slugfest matches became much more rare.
I think the bottom line for anyone is whether or not they are enjoying the game. It's that way with any game I suppose. The moment you can no longer make it fun is the moment you just don't want to play anymore.

I get that running the same way as the other survivor is the wrong choice, but if the killer is on my butt and the only available loop for me happens to be the one you ran to, I'm probably bringing him to you. Be considerate of the person that took the aggro and don't hog the loops.
I completely get that. If the survivor not being chased isn't getting out of your way that's on them. As a matter of fact that's kind of why I made this post. If I am not the one being chased I will very intentionally run away from anything that will be beneficial to the person being chased because I don't want to be in their way. Yet there are still survivors that will follow me. I can only assume it's because they somehow think they will get the killer to chase me instead of them. It's like they lack the ability to understand that by following me they are just ensuring the killer can easily chase both of us.
-
I've never understood why anyone lets this bother them. On the flip side I've never understood why anyone does it to begin with either.

It's not just survivors, it's not just killers; both sides have hypocrites.
Exploits are exploits and exploits must be fixed, but don't make it an "us vs them" argument. We don't need more of them. Please.
Exactly. Any viewpoint that doesn't see hypcorisy on both sides might be suffering from confirmation bias.
-
They sound like jerks. Another way to look at that situation is to take pride in the fact you got under their skin.
-
I think one of the biggest reasons it's hard to balance this game is the differing goals of survivors coupled with the way BHVR has decided to award points and rank to survivors. When it comes to goals survivors tend to fall into 2 categories - 1) playing for rank or 2) playing to escape
In my experience playing for rank often means making escape a secondary objective. It becomes more icing on the cake than the cake itself. While I don't think either way to play is wrong the bottom line is playing for rank often means making choices between an action that gets points you may need in a particular category for that match as opposed to an action that helps the team escape.
In other words I think if the points and rank system for survivors were to be changed to have a much heavier emphasis on escape you would find survivors actually have a whole lot of things going in their favor. As it stands now though, killers get a lot of kills they probably wouldn't get otherwise if the survivor rank system didn't force survivors to frequently make choices that actually work in a killers favor. That makes it look like killers have more power in this game than they actually do. It also means even from just the survivor side the game is unbalanced towards survivors playing for rank. Again, I'm not saying it's wrong to play for rank. I'm just pointing out a survivor playing for rank can be on a team where the other 3 are trying to escape and completely block them from doing so just because they take actions that work against that goal.
-
Seeing a red rank survivor tells you nothing about how good that person is as a teammate or even as a survivor. That isn't to say there are not good players and teammates in red ranks, but in my experience most are neither. I was a red rank survivor for awhile myself. Here's the thing though. What that meant was I knew each match I needed to have enough points in all categories to gain that all important pip or at the very least to not depip. That often led to choices of doing something good for the team or good for myself.
Example:
Let's say someone just got hooked. I'm working on a generator that's close. I know I've already got all the objective points I need this match, but I need points in the altruism category. Even though the killer is camping I see another survivor running towards the hook. I realize I'm closer. Do I?
1) keep working on the generator knowing it's better for the team and our chances of escape or
2) Go perform an unsafe hook removal. It's a bad move for the team and decreases the chance of escape for everyone, but it just might ensure I get enough points in the altruism category to get that all important pip. Kind of ironic if you think about it. An unsafe hook removal in that situation is the exact opposite of an altruistic action, but it ensures you get 1000 altruism points.
Having said that I'm not being critical of anyone playing to gain or maintain rank. I understand it. I'm merely pointing out that playing for rank does not necessarily equate to being a good teammate or even a good player. I would even go so far as to say it often means the opposite.

I don't think I've ever been aware I was part of a match being streamed except one time. A killer sent me a message in the lobby telling me they were streaming and gave me instructions on how they wanted me to play.
I don't care one way or the other if I'm being streamed but the moment you tell me how to play.....
I equipped OoO and Sole Survivor. I immersed until all 3 other survivors were dead. Then I just followed the killer around while they looked for me. I did that for a good 10 minutes before finally allowing them to find me. I would normally never do such a thing. However, the moment someone thinks being a streamer allows them to give me instructions on how to play I'm going to very purposefully ruin their stream.
In other words I'm perfectly fine being part of a stream because I don't care at all what anyone else thinks of the way I play. I'm playing for my enjoyment. Just don't send me a message before the match telling me how to play because you're streaming. It's not going to go well for you.
-
I'm a fan of a different kind of time limit. I say this is a survivor main. If any survivor goes more than 60 seconds without doing one of the following : working on a gen, healing (themself or someone else), being in a killers terror radius, cleansing a totem, or even opening a chest their aura automatically gets revealed to the killer for 60 seconds.
The only time I would have this not happen is during egc when there's already a timer forcing action or death anyway.
-
It's all about perspective. One person may find slugging incredibly toxic, another may not. That doesn't necessarily make either of them right or wrong. Take my personal preference for example. As a survivor main slugging is the thing I hate most in this game. If it happened much more than it already does I would quit playing the game altogether because I get no enjoyment out of a match where I'm slugged. So if I call slugging toxic I am correct, but only from my personal perspective. However, my personal opinion in no way is the measuring stick for whether or not something is toxic in general. Neither is anyone elses.
In other words..... if you aren't breaking any rules you can play however you want to play. It's irrelevant if someone thinks it's toxic.

Any killer who tunnels a survivor after witnessing them intentionally sabotaging their teammates. Don't get me wrong. You have every right to play selfish as a survivor, but I truly love watching a killer make someone playing that way pay for it.
