Playing both sides. Survivor more than killer.
-
There is no reason why killers can´t switch in the lobby. The lock is supposed to give every killer its own mmr, but anyone who tried to play a new killer knows that you still get matched against the same survivors as with your main.
Also the devs recently confirmed that whenever someone lobby dodges, the mmr fills the lobby up asap, while ignoring the mmr rating.
So i really don´t see a reason to keep the killer lobby locked.
-
So not playing according to the survivors rule book is absolutely diabolical?
Maybe, just maybe you simply got a bit rusty after the 2 years break. No problem in that. But it doesn´t reflect the current game balance.
-
Really? A noob stomper? Like most killers?

Didn't they just severely nerf healing like 3 patches in a row?
But is there a limit on how often you can heal?
You ask for a limit on how often a killer can regress a gen. Both things would make no sense.
-
Ideally it should be both.
Since a killer who isn´t fun to play is a killer you won´t see much.

Seems like people were generaly speaking happy compare to Skull Merchant chapter or even Knight chapter... Yet I can't find anywhere Singularity. It's like everyone dropped from him after few games and forgot about him.
This one is easy to explain. The people that were happy about Singularity were mainly playing survivor against him and thus happy about his power level.
The people that played as Singularity gave up pretty quickly in order to play easier and more rewarding killers.
-
Is it just me, or do we only see this kind of thread, when players go from survivor to killer, but never when killers go to survivor?
Like seriously. With the amount of threads complaining about OP killers, one would assume that switching from survivor to killer would be easy peasy lemon squeasy. But in reality its not. Playing killer can be overwhelming, because the killer has to juggle everything alone. If i fail as survivor, there is a chance that the rest of the team does its job to compensate. But if i fail as killer, its just over.
Thats also something where the sbmmr is failing hard.
Anyway, i´d say you should stick to Trapper for the meantime. Since you had some success with him. While Wesker is strong, he also has a higher skill floor than Trapper.

I don't have a problem with how killers play the game. I have a problem with how the game is designed. You shouldn't be able to regress a gen 5 times, there should be a cap on how much each gen can be regressed. Being able to protect a 3 gen is way too easy and takes zero skill to pull off. I have played games recently where I watched killers scout the tightest 3 gen and literally never leave it.
If we are going to have MMR and my teammates are still playing like they started yesterday, what's the point of MMR. Because the killer is almost never bad in my games, but my teammates regularly are. I would trade rank based match making for what we have right now in a heart beat.
Why? Is there a limit on how often survivors can heal?
-
Obviously Pig.

Just had a 4 man SWF mock my anti SWF build: Iron Grip, Agitation, Mad Grit and Lightborn.
So i´d just say that some people are simply salty. Especially when they lose to such a build.

The only problem with BW is after the timer is out, the perk aura is disable. I dont know why they nerfed that.
I remember how the devs once talked about changing the way BW works. If i remember correctly, they thought about changing it to reset every time the killer gets another hook.
BW in its current form only punishes over altruistic or over confident survivors.
EDIT: Typos

Sure I can give an example of a game I literally just played. When a killer kicks a gen before chasing you, you know they are running regression build. This already makes the game very unappealing, as were going to be doing the same gen 2-3 times. On top of this I was hooked and farmed right in front of the killer, instantly triggering a tunnel within 2 minutes of the game starting. Add those two on top of each other and whats the point of me hitting those skill checks?
You want to give up in the first 30 seconds, because the killer kicked a gen?
When the killer gives you a head start in this situation and he obviously doesn´t have Pop.
What killer build would make the game more appealing to you?
You can´t blame the killer if your teammates farm you though. Thats alone on your teammates.

I think there may be some misconceptions here, so I'll do my best to clear them up.
The game does use an MMR system for matchmaking and it has not been removed. That said, not every match will be perfect. Matchmaking systems need to balance match quality and queue times carefully. If it prioritizes making the absolute perfect matches every time, you're going to wind up waiting a very long time for a match. While some may be okay with that wait, others don't care as much and would rather play sooner. It's a tricky thing to perfect and something we're always tweaking to improve. The vast majority of matches are already within a very close margin where your odds of winning vary by a few percent.
There are some extreme cases where this is not possible, though. For example, if there aren't enough players near your rating playing in your area at the time you're playing. In cases like this, the matchmaking system has to gradually expand its search range until it can find you a match, otherwise you may be waiting a very long time (possibly forever). This scenario is fairly uncommon, and while it's unfortunate, there's not much we can do there. The matchmaking system can only work with the pool of players that are available to it.
But as far as levels go, they mean absolutely nothing and have no impact on matchmaking. If an expert survivor happened to pick a new character this match, they aren't suddenly a terrible player. Especially since the progression overhaul, they even have access to most perks right away. The same goes for grades and prestige; they have absolutely zero impact on matchmaking and do not reflect someone's skill in any way.
The exception to this is the PTB. Matchmaking ratings are not used on the PTB since there are not enough players on the test build to create quality matches. Therefore, it's disabled and you can be paired with anyone.
What about people learning new killers? I remember how you guys talked about the mmr getting lowered to incentivize learning new killers. So someone who has 1k hours on Trapper alone but never touched Nurse, gets easier survivors until the player learns to play Nurse. This isn´t the case right now. Which makes learning new killers a chore. Especially killers with a high learning curve.
-
I think they should remove the option to suicide. Give survivors something else to do on hooks, something that gives bloodpoints but doesn't kill you, if you fail.
Oh and they should toss out temp bans for rage quitters. If the teammates report and the game logs show no input or running straight to the killer = temp ban.
Of course not on the first time. RL could be the cause for afk. But when it happens regularly, there should definitely be some sort of warning.

Self caring meta was bad for team play. People preferred to heal themselves instead of getting healed by someone else.
That's the whole reason it got nerfed.

I guess it's because they had specific plans for how the match should go. In my case they swarmed me and made it quite obvious that they would do anything to deny me any hooks. The only problem was that my build countered all of their efforts. The worst part is what would have happened, if they had played against someone with less experience and a build that wouldn't help them. That would have ended in pure torture. And seeing as they brought these perks I think it's fair to assume that they would have been fine with that. You could probably call these guys a bully squad.
But I agree. They really shouldn't take it that serious. I could have played way more nasty. Or worse, I could play Chess Merchant instead.
Absolutely. Some people take this game way to serious. Its just a game. You lose some, you win some. No need to be take it personal.
Just enjoy the game.

But i really don´t get why people get that salty because of meme builds. Like, it isn´t 4 slowdown perks and you can do the event gens freely. Just let me carry a survivor over the map, so i can finish the challenge. But noooo

Doing all the totems takes 70 seconds alone additionally finding them all takes way longer unless you have perks or a map to find them, in the end you would spend a somewhat equivalent amount of time doing dulls for maybe no reason (perhaps you already know what perks the killer has) than you would have to complete at least one or even two gens.
Also not stacking on gens is most of the time just the better play, you don't have lowered efficiency the killer doesn't stop two people from doing gens if he finds the Gen you and another person are on. Most people being items to the game so there is no reason to do chests totems are only worth the time if there are perks in play like hexes or boons and following the chase to eventually take a hit most of the time just is a bad play unless you are a swf and in comms... Bc first how do you know the person needs a hit to be taken, how do you know where you need to take a hit etc. It is just a colossal waste of time to just follow the chase in case you eventually need to take a hit. It has nothing to do with Genrushing when you just sit on a generator by yourself... 3 guys on gens 1 in chase is normal, because literally what else are they supposed to? The side objectives are basically worthless and almost throwing the game because of how time consuming they are while not giving you any value besides blood points.
Well you´re not supposed to do all 5 totems alone. There are 3 other survivors that could totemhunt. IF there was an actual incentive to do them. Which we simply haven´t got. As totem perks are kinda weak and it shows. No one does bones. Everyone does gens only.

Its depend, Im not going to do 4 dulls totem when my teammate being tunneled on last hook at 2-3 Gens and still get Noed in the end.
The 2nd survivor dies to Noed is still better than 3 death and a hatch escape. Where the fault was on me doing dull totems instead of spending all the time to do 2 Gens.
No one does totems anymore unless the gates are powered and they are on the way to the gate. Hell, even boons have become rare. So the devs might need to rework/buff totem perks as a generall. Or the whole idea of a optional secondary objective is pointless.

Doing totems always made NOED stronger, too.
I used to run a dumpster diving build with Plunderer's, Appraisal and Ace-in-the-hole. It was funny, but it did legitimately have a 0% winrate just because chests are a colossal waste of time, even when boosted by those perks.
I used to do the same! But yeah, now it just seems pointless to have a build dedicated to items.

it was more hooks/gens when people brought offerings.
Survivors got points for gen completion (regardless of if they finished that gen).
Now BBQ Invites really just benefit killers.
I mean, i can understand the logic behind the change. Last BBQ event was full of complaint about gen rushing. Since anyone just had to complete a gen to get the points for everyone. Now that changed to a everyone has to do gens in coop. Which isn´t really that different to the previous gen rush version, with the exception of the bloodpoints.
So meh... another event that could have been great but just leaves a bad taste for both sides.

I never see tunneling/camping/gen rushing are toxic. Both sides have reasons. Though killers can totally chase other survivors and still have benefit (eventhough it benefit less than tunneling). Doing a dull totem or searching a chest really give no benefit.
You could do totems to prevent NOED!
Ahh who am i kidding... with the implemented aura reading there is no point in doing totems as NOED can be found so easily if its actually around.

I do complain. xD
I just had a match with Slinger...
2 min 12 seconds - 3 gens are done and I have only 2 hooks, 4-th gen were maybe 20% already. Is this normal?
The most stupid thing for me is that, I didn't even chased for long, they didn't brought ANY toolboxes, they've had 2 prove thyself and 1 hyper focus... Thats it.
Good thing I don't even get mad at such matches... I just feel they unfair to begin with
Don´t worry. Thats normal.
A gen takes a bit less than 90 seconds if survivors can hit great skill checks. Since there are 4 survivors and you can only chase 1. Seeing 3 gens gone in the first 90-100 seconds isn´t something extraordinary. Just survivors being efficient at doing their only objective.
-
Events like this are nice. As they show how fast gens can be completed. Suddenly no one complaints about a 4 minute match...
-
Its not more problematic than NOED.
So no, i don´t think Adrenaline is problematic.

Honestly all I am reading from all your responses it that you seem to think that the only way to have fun as a killer is if you get a 4K and you're willing to do anything to get it, which is stupid. Getting at least a 2K is super easy and if you're really struggling with even that then you're at the wrong MMR which will correct itself over time.
There is no such thing as gen rush in average game, only coordinated SWFs can do it and those games are rare. And most people understand that if you play survivor and play in a way that puts you at risk then that's on you, generalizing all survivor players as complainers is just silly.
Haven´t mentioned fun or gen rushing in any of my comments in this thread though.
And no, thats not what i think.

This wouldn't work. It would take ages to programm the MMR for this and it would still most likely not be balanced and fair.
It would be fairer than what we have now.
-
I still think that there shouldn´t exist a lobby. When someone clicks ready from the main menu, the next thing he should see is the loading screen for the match. No one should dodge based on teammates/players. On top of that, the mmr should consider the strength of items/addons in order to match accordingly. Players with red and purple addons against players with red and purple.

I would think full on "tunneling gens" would be detrimental to the surv team, no? Like "I'm gonna do these gens while my team is all dying" wouldn't be particularly effective. Though some people actually operate that way, to be sure, and I hate teammates that do that.
Early in games, survs don't really have other objectives. Now sometimes gens go at a rate where the killer can't manage it for reasons largely beyond their control (map balance, garbage RNG), but that is usually a game design issue.
As for the topic, "fair" is a subjective term, and as far as the game goes, it doesn't violate the rules of the game, even if it does violate the spirit of the game.
But man, is tunneling lame. To me, it says one (or or all) of three things about the player:
- They care waaay too much about "winning" in a game where competition was never really supposed to be the point
- That they don't feel they are good enough to win any other way, and probably really suck at meta gameplay
- The have absolutely no regard for the other players
To be clear, I always define tunneling as tunneling from the beginning of the game, as a general strategy to be used in every match.
Situational tunneling late in games that are slipping away is generally kosher in my book, and should be expected (like camping after the gens are all done).
What should not be expected is that the first time the killer finds you your game is essentially over.
Finally someone who understands me.

@Orochi said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3510084#Comment_3510084
Yeah, except Killers have a choice to not camp or turn back around the instant they hear the unhook, despite efficiency. Survivors do not have that freedom when working on gens.
Killers can still win by spreading hooks, Survivors can't work on a gen for 30% progress and go to the next one and repeat the process til 5 gens are done unless they want to lose. You simply stay on one gen as long as you can until it's done and then move to the next.
So no, your "tunneling gens" argument holds no water and if people really believe that it does, they are deluding themselves to validate their strategy. Tunnel all you want, but Killers comparing simply doing gens efficiently to tunneling to kill efficiently is reaching.
Why do killers have a choice but survivors don´t? Killers need to get 12 hooks. 4 survivors need to repair 5 gens. Thats 1 1/4 gen per survivor. They absolutely can choose to not go for that gen thats at 30% and regressing, but never will ignore it for a fresh one.
My point still stands. Killers can´t play efficiently without getting called names. But survivors see no wrong with playing themselves efficiently. Its the objective of both sides. Don´t take it personal if you are the target. It could be anyone else who the killer is going for. The killer has nothing against you personally. He just wants to win the game. Just like survivors.
-
@sulaiman said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3509697#Comment_3509697
Is that really comparable? A regressing gen can go back to zero, taking all progress with it. Survivors wont get a hookstate back, so the killer progress is permanent. For survivors its only with finished gens.
If you want compare the unfinished gen, then you should compare it to hit and run, because a survvior can completly heal from that.
But noone is expecting killers to do that, are they?
As explained above, a full hook stage would be like a completed gen. Both can´t go back.
But when a killer chases a injured survivor and another survivor goes to body block, if the killer doesn´t switch the target, he gets called a tunneler. This fully applies to regressing gens.

this thread was about tunneling, not camping. there's kind of, almost, a decent analogue between a killer camping a hooked survivor and a survivor waiting out threats to finish a gen (there are some objections I'd make to that comparison as well, though to a lesser degree than comparing to tunneling)
i guess I failed to consider option c: just expected me to know you were talking about something else entirely
Camping and tunneling often go hand in hand. Especially in the mentioned situation.
You could also say that tunneling is doing the objective efficiently. As this is what often comes up when someone mentions gen rushing. Its just survivors doing their objective efficiently. Well the killers objective is to kill. But doing this efficiently is the least amount of fun (mainly for survivors). Since a player can´t play anymore. But when all gens are finished, no one can play anymore as the match is over.
There is a surprisingly high amount of survivors that will complain about dying with 26k bloodpoints after a 5 minute match, but will love escaping with 18k bloodpoints after a 5 minute match.
I prefer option d: the community still doesn´t see how similar the game is for both sides. One side will rush their objective and force the other side to do the same. Leaving little room for "nice" matches. This won´t change as long as both sides want to end a match asap.

Still not a good comparing these two.
Or is the killer out if 1 gen is completed?
The thing is, tunneling prevents players from playing the game. That is the thing, why tunneling is so bad in the first place.
A killer can turn the game the whole game. A dead survivor is dead.
This isn´t about 1v1. The 3 survivors can also turn the game around. Also see message above.
