The method the more invasive program used was patched but there's a new method for finding out who the killer is in the lobby by checking what the log file says about cosmetics being loaded.

Yep. The one I've just seen was "sadly" (Good riddance!) patched as of the latest PTB apparently (Logs are encrypted entirely).

So it won't have long to live, although I feel other programs will crop up.

On a side note, apparently cheaters are rejoicing over cross-progression/cross-platform as it'll make it easier to "Launder" cheated progress/legacy. I am concerned about this.

  • @Momentosis said:

Yes there is an app that lets people see the killer and people will dodge if you do a last second switch.

I thought that was fixed. I know there were two different programs. One just showed who the killer was, and the other was FAR more invasive and showed what perks they were running once the match started, totems and pallets remaining, survivor status, etc.

AFAIK both programs method of working (accessing the log files) was patched and I think they even handed out bans for people using it (although the bans were rapidly reversed. I guess because the program technically didn't inject anything or modify game files, so maybe banning for what was mostly an issue on BHVR's end for it even being possible was deemed heavy-handed?) I asked the creator of program B (Turns out program B was basically a hobby project of his.) and he claimed it was fixed when the silent hill chapter went live.

Is there some third program I am unaware about? Again, the main mechanism-of-action for programs A and B (I'm not giving names) was patched and I can't see there being any other method to do this without going into modifying game files/injecting code and if someone's going to do that, they might as well go all-out and use blatant cheats.

Either way if there is another program, I am hoping it is quickly fixed because it's definitely an unfair competitive advantage and basically allows survivors to "Streamsnipe" any killer. Doctor? Calm Spirit. Spirit? Iron Will. Plague? Resilience and no medkits. Trapper? Small Game.

On a side note, I find it rather amusing survivors are complaining about killer's lobby dodging yet are using a program to dodge killers they don't want to face. + quick-switching has gone full-circle, now killers have to pick a "decoy" killer like Clown only to swap to Doctor or Spirit at the last moment, just like how survivors swap from Baby Dweet to P3 Legacy Flashlight Claudette.

EDIT: Apparently there IS a third program. Good news is apparently the latest PTB encrypts the log files entirely meaning the program will be dead as a doorknob once the PTB is pushed to live.

  • Nothing wrong with that. I usually assume anyone with OoO is part of a SWF acting as the eyes of the team. Tunneling them ASAP might be the best decision to make from a strategic point of view.

  • Same could be said about unrelenting possibly being a Wraith perk.

    Untitled Image

  • Because it paints a bright target on your back, usually if someone is running OoO it's because they're a "loop you for 5 gens" god-tier looper.

Some people use it just to tea-bag cross-map.

The fact they're the recon guy in a SWF and are relaying my every move to the rest of the SWF.

Basically it's those things combined (other survivors become less appealing when Mr. OoO is visible through walls across the map at almost all times + he is telling the rest of the team where I am) that gives me the urge to tunnel the OoO user. Killing him ASAP will negate the advantage for the survivors.

Not all OoO users are SWF but I'd argue 80% of users are.

  • There's no such thing as "tunneling", if you can't survive a reasonable amount of time after being unhooked you can only blame yourself for being B A D, not the killer for doing the only thing they can do while the survivor is around.

  • Furtive Chase used to be decent on pre-rework Freddy, since he had aura reading on anyone outside his terror radius, so by shrinking your TR in a chase you got better tracking on the survivor throughout loops or if they manage to shake you off so you could rapidly re-engage.

It basically was what Iron Maiden is to Huntress, I'm All Ears to Pyramid Head, and Stridor is to Spirit, perks that synergize very well with the killer's power.

  • @LapisInfernalis said:

Spirit: Our statistics showed that Stridor is used by over 80% of Spirit players. To counter this abuse, we decided now, that the Spirit can't hear sounds of pain while phasing. This also gives Survivors a fair chance to avoid the spirit while phasing if they don't use Iron Will.

Freddy: Removed Bloodlust when Freddy uses a snare/Pallet to be consistent with other killers. Also we decided to remove Freddy's ability to put Survivors asleep with a hit, since they automatically fall asleep over time. Therefore increased the possibility of Skillchecks in the Dream World and removed Clocks, since players find it annoying to go across the map to wake up.

TBH Freddy actually already loses bloodlust when setting a snare IIRC.

  • Tapp's usually too busy doing generators.

Seriously though Detective's Hunch is amazing for finding totems.

  • I saw an idea somewhere where the basement has a little shrine with a candle holder in it.

There's 5 lit candles, corresponding to the 5 totems. When a totem is destroyed (dull or lit) a candle is extinguished.

Now there's a totem counter that's not plastered on the hud, and requires a survivor check the basement if he's unsure the survivors got them all already.

If NOED is STILL oppressive, they could add an early warning in the form of a skull sitting on the table next to the candle holder if the killer is running it. I think it'd be a bit unfair to know from the beginning of the match they have NOED or not (If they don't you know you can ignore totems and focus entirely on gens) but it's just an idea.

  • @Accullla said:

I love people trying to do a like - for - like comparison between killers in this game. Did you ever think that people like to play them because they enjoy using their power; like the gameplay; enjoy the aesthetic? Not everything is about finding the killer that can net you a guaranteed 4k with the optimal perks, power and playstyle

Seriously, I struggle to understand how people who think like this manage to even enjoy the game. I'd be bored out of my mind if i had this mindset going into a match.

For the survivor equivalent, why do we see so many P3 Claudettes? Because she's the hardest to spot.

Reminds of those idiots in Rising Storm 2 who have their character models as shirtless with boonie hats as all factions so you can't tell the damn difference between who's Vietcong and who's US/AUS/ARVN and then they complain when they get teamkilled 250 meters away because I can't tell. (Even though they're trying to make their model look like the enemy faction)

  • I think auto-sacrifice should be removed for the last guy. It can screw you out of Deliverance and even when I play killer I'm in a rush to go kick some pallets/gens or close the hatch/open the gates for some extra BP. Or spam my power for some extra deviousness. (Not as important given the big "NO ONE SURVIVED" deviousness bonus for a 4k)

I dunno about keeping struggle, but the game should at least auto-attempt escape to force you to either hit struggle and get sacrificed, or kobe.

EDIT: Or maybe we need more things that fill the Survival BP category like searching chests, being safely unhooked, etc. Boldness, altruism, and objective are easy (do bones or get in chases, heal and unhook people, do gens and chests, etc.) but Survival is that one category which is a pain to get. HARDLY anything fills it (Self-healing, escaping) and I believe some of the things that do fill it (Snapping out of it) stop giving you BP after a while but before you hit the 8K cap.

Even searching jigsaw boxes gives you objective and not survival IIRC, even though you know, it's a thing you're doing to not suffer from a case of headblowupitis. aka SURVIVE.

Hilariously dying as the obsession gives you 1k survival.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

It's not an exploit, but rather considered "Holding the game hostage", which is a reportable offense.

How's it a hostage situation if the progress of the match isn't impeded indefinitely? The other 3 survivors can rush gens and leave and EGC will kill the trapped guy.

  • Another idea I saw for a totem counter was to have a shrine in the basement. You go down there, there's a table with a Candelabra candle holder thing. (Like what they use on Hanukkah)

5 candles start lit, representing the 5 totems. When a totem is cleansed, a candle is extinguished.

Bam, base-kit totem counter that isn't plastered onto the hud, and requires a survivor spend time to go into the basement to check it so they know if there's any totems left.

This is optional, but perhaps on the table there can be a skull next to the candle holder as an early warning the killer has NOED. However this would remove the "Always assume the killer has NOED, so do bones which makes the round last longer" part of the game, so that's why it's optional if NOED somehow still ends up being a problem.

  • Killers would dodge SWF even more than they already do. (On PC you can easily check peoples steam profiles unless they're all private but then the killer might dodge anyway, worried you might be some SWAT-team hyper-sweaty SWF trying to cover it up. I tend to dodge all-privates because they usually do actually turn out to be quick-switch-to-legacy-jake bully-squads.)

I feel SWF should only be indicated AFTER the match in the post-game screen. Throw in a heavy BP bonus for playing vs SWF so there's more incentive not to dodge.

  • IMHO all purple rarity hemmorage addons should come with a free bloodhound for the duration.

  • You have any footage of the new animation?

I thought it was a reference to this scene from TCM 1.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKEpuZstp3g

  • People who teabag at the gate after waiting for the very end of the EGC timer makes me want to write their name down and bring Ebony Moris in all subsequent times I find them in my lobby.

Honestly Nemesis should proc when survivors teabag, so it can be combo'd with Rancor for ULTIMATE DIVINE JUSTICE (Insta-Down + Mori) on exit gate teabaggers.

  • I think there will be some changes. Nothing actually drastic (Overheat's going to stay) but numbers tweaks and maybe minor mechanics changes. I.E. they might reduce the amount of heat generated by the saw when revving or have a chainsaw hit/M1 hit reduce the heat level to "reward skill". (I.E. a Billy who's good with his saw will be able to saw more often than someone who misses all the time)

  • The game should try to auto-kobe for the last survivor. If you get the 4%/have deliverance, great! If not, as soon as you hit struggle the game autosacrifices you as usual.

No, as soon as you hit the ready button and it starts searching for a lobby, your locked out from changing your character. You HAVE to select the character you want before ever touching that button. Wont let ya hit the little arrow keys either.

But once you find that lobby, can you switch killers then?

  • Nah. That's cool if getting hit with knockout "Concusses" you. I am curious if this is some kind of buff to blindness.

  • Can you change killers once you're INSIDE the lobby? (Where you see the 4 survivors, and everyone readies up?)

I am curious if this is some kind of precursor to the new matchmaking system they've been testing. They said they wanted to do "per-killer" matchmaking. So, again, I am curious if implementing it means you're locked to one killer when you search to a lobby and can't change it (Since the game finds a group that matches your "killer-specific skill level). So you can't for example, ready up as Clown who you never play, get a lobby of newer survivors, then swap to your P3 rank 50 Freddy to stomp them.

  • @YaiPa said:

would kinda be a waste of time. I mean, how much corn would you be able to cut in one action? How long would it take? These kind of mechanics, like breakable walls, where you need to do something before actually doing something to stop the survivors are very hindering for killers.

Ideally something like if you're chainsawing as Leatherface, all the corn you run through gets cut down. It's not really an interaction like breaking pallets or walls, but just chainsawing automatically shreds through corn in your path.

Please refer to the youtube video in my edit about "tunneling"

In fact when I saw this thread I was looking for that specific video to post.

DS is "mostly" fine but it still has huge problems with it. IMHO healing another survivor (Self-healing and being healed is fine), working on a generator or totem, attempting an unhook, etc. should cancel DS. This way DS still works for anti-tunneling but can't be used as a "LMAO I'm invincible so I can do absolutely suicidal plays like yeeting off the guy you just hooked and then hiding in this locker, get rekt baby killerino" perk as it's sometimes abused currently.

  • I remember someone else suggested this a long time ago. It'd be hilarious if Leatherface's chainsaw swipes could cut the corn down.

  • I like it. I just hope it's global. (So if you chainsaw on the other side of the map, everyone hears him roar).

Sadly this would make faking the chainsaw to scare survivors much less effective, since they know if you're committing to a chainsaw charge or not, (I used to scare people off gens before I had BBQ by revving up for a few seconds right after a hook)

Reminds me a little of the Scrake from Killing Floor.

EDIT: Oh crap if it's global what'd be the point of the silent chainsaw addons unless they get replaced? Imagine making the chainsaw completely silent and you just hear Billy roaring.

So you think its ok to give BBQ the effect of another Perk + its own effect of seeing auras of non-dying-state-survivors + the effect of getting more bloodpoints? Even the bloodpoints are rediculus. it makes this perk so important, you cant even toss it for another perk.

And as a killer, i would love to play discordance instead, but those bloodpoints..., its a must-have. And its one of the reasons why killers play it in like every game.

And btw, saying you should run tenacity is stupid, cause you should not have to run a specific perk, to counter a perk. you should adapt and counter it by play style.

BBQ and WGLF should have the point aspect base-kit. BBQ's sole ability would be the aura reveal after a hook and WGLF would need a different effect.

  • @MongolPSR said:

I absolutley want to see the struggle mechanic change as the struggle mechanic literally hurts me. I cant make my hand tap like that for as long as they want and on controler you have to tap faster than you do on keyboard to not die. Often times I dont struggle simply because I don't want to be hurt by playing a video game due to my motor-function disability in my hands.

I've died a few times despite mashing space like a madman. It's a bad mechanic and anything from skillchecks to autostruggle with hold space to give in to the entity would be a good replacement.

  • Well survivors told killers to just adapt with the influx of insta-heals, insta-blinds, and BNP's when changes were announced to them.

    So just deal with it.

I will say I have over 500 ebonies across my killers. I doubt I'd be using them all but if I wanted to use them I have enough moris to bring an ebony every game for a very long time.

  • It's not. Just don't facecamp people with 5 generators remaining and then use NOED just so you can insta-down the second guy and facecamp him to death too.

  • Tombstone, really? If you have Myers I want you to try Judith's Tombstone + Tuft Of Hair a few games and see how effective it is. Honestly it's more effective to not run any addons since you have full movement speed and reaching EW3 doesn't take draining 3 and a half survivors of Stalker Juice. (Which in a real match and not a hypothetical vacuum, is EXTREMELY hard to do since murphy's law will be you can't find that last survivor, or you can't find the obsession to get PYWF stacks so you can move at a normal movement speed unless you bring Nemesis or something to get a new obsession, but that's 2 perk slots banked now.)

You can also avoid being tombstoned by hiding in a locker.

IMHO the only "BS" tombstone combo is Tombstone Piece + J Myers Memorial for fast stalking or Judith's Journal and Nemesis for fast stalking on the obsession you can switch. I say it's a cheesy combo because Tombstone Piece has no movement speed reduction and with a stalking addon you can hit EW3 relatively fast.

Iri heads, Insta-saw Infectious Billy, and a tunneling Pyramid Head suck to play against but Tombstone Myers, as threatening as he is on paper, is arguably enjoyable to play against because if the killer wants to use tombstone he's not going to be tunneling anyone out of the game super quick + there's a sense of urgency of if you're going to finish the gens and get out before he hits EW3 and finds everyone.

  • @Athanar90 said:

You know, I'd be fine with just re-adding the ban only for leaving through the menu, no other DC counts. They can tell the button to report its user.

Then people will physically pull the cord or kill the game via task manager. In fact people used to do this in the olden days to keep their BP, pips, and items.

  • I noticed everyone else is dead and the endgame collapse was going on. Did you close the hatch before 5 gens were completed?

Rancor does technically say all generators have to be completed and not just the exit gates being powered (compare NOED, Adrenaline, etc.).

I do think it should be buffed proc when hatch is shut (Only the exposed + mori, no survivor reveal) since it'd made the synergy with Dying Light, Play With Your Food and Save The Best For Last absolutely hilarious (ignore obsession all game, insta-mori at the end) but it seems like it's working as designed to me.

  • Sort of, but not much really has changed. I kind of liked Old Lightborn because the blind was slower and gave the illusion to the survivor it was working. Now it's going to be a little more obvious when you run it although the aura-reveal is neat.

I just wish it made them the obsession too but then it'd be EXTREMELY similar to Nemesis and while I like perk-sidegrades it'd be a bit too redundant.

  • When the 4 default dwights suddenly switch to Legacy P3 Claudettes and Jakes with flashlights and toolboxes at the very last second, 3 hook distance offerings and a haddonfield offering are burned, and as soon as you load in you see one of the survivors teabagging you across the map with Object Of Obsession.

  • IIRC devs have claimed on a recent stream there's no plans and it'd be a pain to implement + by the time you reconnect you'd likely be on a hook.

  • Same could be said about Head-On and Object Of Obsession.

I think camping the item until it disappears is pretty scummy but the killer's effectively throwing the match doing that.

  • One problem with it is vs a "Sweaty" SWF the Obsession could DC to counter the perk. Don't know why the obsession's death should instantly delete the perk. I get that Remember Me + hatch being shut sucks for the survivor but if the killer wants to bank a perk slot + make sure the last survivor isn't the obsession, he should be allowed to make that kind of decision for a better chance at a 4K after shutting hatch.

IIRC the devs considered changing Remember Me so the obsession dying reduces your stacks by half when Freddy first came out but later decided against it, someone even made a flowchart for it.

    Untitled Image

I like the concept of keeping the survivors alive and making some kind of ultimate end-game play with NOED, Remember Me, Blood Warden, etc. by hitting and slugging to gain stacks and never hooking anyone until the last generator pops.

    Neat concept either way.

  • Survivors: Remove the DC penalties they're banning people for no reason and there's better solutions!

These same survivors once the penalties are actually removed:

    https://youtu.be/DuayQEYv4-k

  • Depends on how satisfied I feel with the match as well as pips. I've facecamped a few times for science and I've had more satisfying games where nobody died but I 2-hooked everyone and got decent emblem score vs facecamping 3 people to death and depipping.

  • Only if we got a Pirate killer too. (Poking fun at that silly "Pirates vs Ninjas" fad. But hey, a pirate could be cool.)

  • Survivors: Remove the DC penalties they're banning people for no reason and there's better solutions!

These same survivors once the penalties are actually removed:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuayQEYv4-k

  • We already nerfed Spirit by removing collision during the phase and gutting prayer beads.

  • I miss him too. He was actually strong in the right hands, mindset, and playstyle (CONSTANT target juggling, always aiming to keep 2+ survivors asleep at any one time even if it means abandoning a chase to re-sleep someone who got woken up) and he had some fun build variety.

Sadly most people would tunnel one survivor to death at a time with him and conclude Freddy sucked. It was the worst way to play him too.

I want a killer that plays like Classic Freddy but isn't as BS to play against though.

  • Legion can rapidly wound everyone with his timer getting refreshed when deep wounding someone + he gets killer instinct on everyone in his TR who isn't deep-wounded after he gets that first injury in Frenzy.

  • For Leatherface I think it's because current LF's chainsaw is so hard to hit people with in a chase camping is literally the only thing he's really good at. Also, the memes with insidious bubba hiding in the basement.

  • @Raptorrotas said:

By default being designated the obsession should be undesireable and be coupled with debuffs to said obsessed survivor.

Harder skillchecks, being revealed longer, being able to be moried on death hook etc might be feasible.

Problem is almost all killer perks involve keeping the obsession alive some way or another to benefit.

The only ones that reward going after the obsession are Furtive Chase, and Remember Me IIRC. I know Dying Light used to be a "Kill the obsession as fast as possible" perk but it was reworked into a keep the obsession alive perk because it was unfun as heck. (I used to use it a lot. OG Freddy + Dying Light + Black Box to make the obsession start asleep and visible across the map + a mori = bad time)

Rancor is another one where it's bad to be the obsession since you're moriable once all gens are finished.

I am all for having the obsession be a default thing but there shouldn't be all bad effects just for being the obsession without any corrosponding killer obsession perks.

I do think the killer should get an extra BP boost for sacrificing the obsession depending on how many survivors are left in the match. So saving the obsession for last would give you a ton of points vs sacrificing them first. (This way the killer is encouraged not to insta-tunnel them) There already is a survival BP bonus for the obsession if they die or escape.

  • IMHO it's not good. Old Ruin was definitely unhealthy for the game but it was a necessary evil due to gen speeds.

New Ruin is just meh. It has good potential on high-pressure killers like Hillbilly who can keep people away from gens, but it's really bad on setup-heavy killers that needed old ruin like Trapper, Myers, Plague, etc.

  • Pretty sure AFKing might get you in trouble if you do it consistently, especially if for example, you set a macro up to left click automatically, and leave the game running so it finds matches by itself for like a week.

I've thrown matches myself to derank. If you want to do it, try and meme around with some silly strategies that'll be sure to result in a depip like Insidious Bubba guarding the basement chest, or Doctor who just zaps one survivor in particular for the entire match and never hits them. (You can bring Rancor to mori them after the last gen is popped if they're the obsession) Plague who just pukes on people, Franklin's Trapper who traps the items, NASCAR (or Formula One) Hillbilly with double turning addons who just chainsaws around the map, etc.

This way you're not AFKing but still deranking, and zappy-doctor with distressing, Thrill Of The Hunt, and Beast Of Prey lets you still farm a decent amount of bloodpoints by shocking and chasing.
