Sure, and Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

They have to balance the game around the player base they have and the way matches actually play out in reality - not some theoretical edge case where all the survivors are perfect and the killers mediocre in every match. Saying a kill isn't a kill is ridiculous - the killer still won and the survivor still lost.

The irony. Instead, you want them to balance around 20k hour Blights and 20 hour solo queue.

I'd say faster gen progression and blocking regression hits quite a bit harder at 5 gens than it does at 2 or 1. In what way could it possibly not?

Do you want me to actually explain it to you? Okay.

If I'm playing freaking Nurse and tunnel someone out at 5 gens, I'm not going to give two rats about not having gen regression or the survivors having boosted gen progression. The game is as good as done. It's all over but the crying. You're not going to come back in that scenario.

But if I'm playing Dredge, trying to hold a shaky three gen with 1 or 2 gens left, and I'm forced to try to get someone out of the game or lose… well then that lack of regression is probably going to mean that at least 2 of the three remaining survivors escape. Because by the time I get the survivor out, those gens will probably be nearly done. My only hope to not outright lose is a quick chase and hope the survivors mess up the endgame save

There is no way that SOME on the list will even make it to PTB and even if they do the 2nd final wave of complaints will hit BHVR as Ryan or Mandy are forced by PR team to request player feedback and collect stats.

See, the problem is that the things people are really upset about are the things that give the changes any bite and might actually reduce tunneling. No notification of an unhook, and heavy penalties for tunneling are probably the only things that MIGHT curb tunneling. But if they do go live, then the game is as good as dead. So BHVR is in a damned if they do, damned if they don't. They can't release an anti-tunnel patch after all this time that doesn't actually do anything, and they can't actually release the patch as-is, either.

Are you incapable of getting downs or wining games without tunneling or slugging longer than 90 seconds? Because this patch really doesn't affect you in any negative way unless you tunnel or slug longer than 90 seconds.

Of course I am. I'll probably still win half or more of my games. You know, the ones against potato survivors that aren't really satisfying because I know I only won because the survivors were garbage. The ones against good survivors that actually do gens? No, you can't beat a good team that's actually trying to win without a bit of tunneling or slugging. The gens go too fast. You have to slow the game down somehow.

But these changes won't affect me at all. I'm not playing this slop. Y'all can have fun with 15 minute survivor queues and sweaty Nurses, Ghouls and Blights over and over again. I'll be skonging.

  • @Coffee2Go said:

Most likely adressed sooner or later as ryan and mandy have been both quiet and collecting user complaints etc.

My best guess is after each gen is completed these hook states will refresh so lets say u manage to do 2 hook states on same guy and they are still not doing gen and then it pops you can now kill that person.

And same goes for 6 hook states if they die by any means will be changed to 4 hook states and if they die by their own hand by sabotaging skill checks on hook or being left to die will be adressed too.

The value 4 will be more likely natural feeling due many killer perks needing 4 unique hooks to trigger the perk to reach full potential like grim or pain res.

Uhh elusive will probably deactivate as soon as that survivor decides to pick up an item, use flashlight or any other item to sabotage killer.

They will adress that elusive is intended to run away and get healed only to continue your objective as a survivor not to stay still and nearby or afk and be protected.

Suuuuuure they will. They're totally not going to push this crap to live with little to no changes.

Never thought I'd see people going through the "stages of grief" over hard tunneling, but here we are.

Lol. This isn't about hard tunneling and you know it. These nerfs hit just as hard at 2 gens as they do at 5.

You still can, nothing is stopping you.

And I will. And now not even just to win anymore. By now it’s mixed with other motivations.

    https://youtu.be/71FR41U8DQk

I mean you were tunneling before, and you're going to be tunneling now. You're apparently having fun, all the survivor experience can do from here is go up.

Yup. I hard tunneled before… I had fun with Sadako, with Myers, sometimes even running meme builds

even played Hag once in a while (no one does that in high MMR). Good M1 chases are fun.

But y, Nurse is what the community keeps asking for.

So Nurse is my answer now.

I used to give groups some breathing room when I played something strong. That’s over now.

Congrats BHVR, you’ve created a game where the only right answer is Nurse.

Can you post a link to the Greenville one you posted on Steam? Can't find it again.

Mandy confirmed awhile ago that they could distinguish folks going next just fine. This was back when people were questioning if Skull Merchant's high killrates were because of folks letting go on hook.

Uh huh. And then they showed that they couldn't actually do that when they released the "Anti-Go Next" patch.

Almo kinda deserve some of that though.

    1. He told someone in his stream asking for quality of life changes for color blind people to stop asking him about it, as if it didnt matter and wasnt a priority. This create a huge backslash and got big attention from a social media. Shortly after Almo was featured less and less in their live streams….gee I wonder why.
    2. Almo plays the game poorly, he would always be camping with iri huntress on the hooked survivor. Gee look at that a dev doing the negative toxic thing that survivors hate and now we are here with a patch that is trying to kill slugging/tunneling/camping. Want another example?? Sure he would complain about not being able to hit skill checks especially with old huntress lullaby on Doctor, theres even a clip of it, so he went out of his way to get it nerfed.

He had a big ego and when someone has a big ego while they are bad at the game and are in charge of game balance….nothing good will come from that.

Except the moment he leaves, the balance team started working on the patch that will do everything that Almo warned about.

If it's at 4 gens, he can probably still pull out the win. 1 or 2? He's probably getting two kills still.

Okay? If a killer gets a kill with 1 or 2 gens remaining and they trigger the penalties, what's the issue? If they are triggering both penalties they are probably on just 3 hooks. Should the norm be that a killer who only gets 3 hooks by the time survivors complete 4 gens still end up winning the match? Like you're conceding he's still going to get to a draw.

Anyway, I already noted we are on a tangent. You're welcome to the last word in this thread.

Why thank you! Since DBD was nice enough to release a "Go Play Silksong Instead of Killer!" patch, I think the last word shall be:

    "SHAW!"

  • He nails what I've been trying to tell people for two days better than I ever could. This was a really good read. DBD is pretty much trying to "fix" what made DBD successful, and it's going to get really ugly really fast.

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

There were certain content creators and their orbiters who after previously slugging every match until BHVR was forced to add the option to leave matches, have now started to hard tunnel at 5 gens in every game. I have warned them that like with the whole slugging everyone tactic, they will force the devs hand so they have to introduce extreme methods to stop tunnelling.

Sure enough… the devs have been forced to finally do something and honestly I am happy to see it finally happen.

Most killers don't tunnel hard like this but as per usual, it is a small minority that ruin things for everyone

That's funny. I see a lot more bully squad content creators than slugging content creators. When will those bully squad creators be getting their nerfs? Oh, wait! I forgot, they're actually getting BUFFED this patch. Because killers have to worry about survivor satisfaction, and survivors are allowed to be as mean spirited and toxic as they want.

  • @crogers271 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3991986#Comment_3991986

it's absolutely nothing compared to getting a survivor out early.

Which he could still do, and if he gets any unique hooks along the way, he is stronger. Because your claim that the tunnel is disallowed or an insta loss is a gross exaggeration.

Anyway, sorry to @Inosennatoki - I didn't expect this to go off in such a tangent and potentially derail your thread.

Oh, yeah. Being unable to regress gens anymore is totally a winnable situation… for Nurse. For Dredge? It depends on how many gens are left. If it's at 4 gens, he can probably still pull out the win. 1 or 2? He's probably getting two kills still.

    There I fixed it.

Oh, wait. Is ping ponging a "cheap" tactic now? JFC you guys are never happy. They're literally cutting every killer not named Nurse or Blight off at the knees, and you're complaining that it wasn't at the hips.

  • @crogers271 said:

We're just changing the argument now, right? You said BHVR hadn't said something, I showed you when they did, and we're just bouncing to different topics?

Do Trappers never kick gens? Deathslinger doesn't ever need to cover ground? Hag knowing where the survivors are won't help where she leaves traps?

Different killers will get different levels of benefits from the change. That's inevitable. It's one of the reasons base kit buffs to all killers are rarely done.

But let's not be so narrow in who we're discussing. What about some other non S-tier killers? How about Dredge? Is he not going to be improved knowing where the survivors are and being able to get more out of a kick when he teleports to a gen? Any speedy or teleporting killer, Wraith, Freddy, etc. is getting a useful boost. Insta down and stalking killers get info or survivors have to sacrifice gen progress. Range killers know where they need to focus.

You're ignoring a sizable portion of the killer roster in your analysis.

And Dredge will still get curb stomped by survivors with more than 2 brain cells because he doesn't get downs fast enough, so the entire point is moot. Unless that gen regression is something like 35%, it's absolutely nothing compared to getting a survivor out early.

    or good game sense.

Good players generally know where the smart gens to work on are. Edge gens first middle last ect ect

It'd take longer, but they could absolutely still find it. Probably within the chase too, considering its likely to last longer.

Which would take longer, and leave the killer more time to make a play. Ergo… gens would take longer

Oh right. Yeah, I hope they'll be more radical and proactive at addressing Killer and Map balance, but I suspect they'll be at the back of the queue behind the next 30 Sable skins and the Pizza Hut collab featuring newest Killer The Annoyance.

Exactly. They'll make some number tweaks that don't address the core issues, pat themselves on the back, then go back to deciding what perk to give survivors as a basekit next.

???Which things will never happen??? My post is like 5 paragraphs, you have to be more specific if you're trying to drag me

In that case, I hope it prompts BHVR to have a deep look at those Killers,

Sorry, I thought I quoted it. This will never happen. They've kept low tier killers in the garbage can for years. At best, they'll give killers like Trapper and Hag half an addon as basekit and call it a day, like they always do.

I'm sorry, but I don't think half an addon here and there is going to make up for

Strange, I missed in the patch notes were you aren't allowed to do things or that something will cause an automatic loss.

Proceeds to make the biggest balance change in the history of DBD.

If that was their goal they wouldn't be giving killers buffs at the same time. If BHVR actually did what survivors wanted, we'd just be getting anti-tunnel. But they are very clearly trying to give things to both sides not to disrupt the balance.

But you've already reached your conclusion despite all of the evidence you are lacking.

Lol. I'm sorry, but the killers that need these "buffs" the most won't even be able to use them. Trapper isn't going to go traipsing across the map to get an extra 5-10% on a gen kick. Deathslinger isn't suddenly going to get map pressure because of a 5% haste for ten seconds. Hag can't capitalize on knowing that there's a survivor on the other side of the map. And BHVR isn't dumb. They know this.

If they really wanted to compensate killers, they'd have made it like PR instead of Pop. They know that the low tier killers can't actually use any of these "buffs," but S tiers can… which is why they made it so those S tiers don't get as big of a buff. These "buffs" are designed to placate killers while not actually giving them any compensation. They exist so people like you can do exactly what you're doing now.

  • @Wiccamanplays said:

First of all, the steady increase in player numbers suggests that people have not been leaving the game "in droves"; while I'm sure there have been Survivor players who've left because of not enjoying the game's current state (in spite of the bufs Survivors have rightly received), it doesn't help discourse to exaggerate.

Second, kill rates have been inflated across the board by the changes to Endgame Mori and the Abandon feature, as well as the Go Next phenomenon in general: I've had many more games where Survivors have just peaced out of entirely winnable scenarios, and I don't really see the point in letting bots escape, especially when they're usually worse at the game (this does raise the question of how much merciful Hatch escapes were influencing kill/escape rates.

Third, kill rates as a blunt statistic are not very informative by themselves: I just checked my stats and my highest KRs are on Wraith and Trapper, because I played them as a beginner and got a load of 4ks against baby Survivors who didn't have any perks and didn't know how the game worked, before I reached the MMR cap and those Killers becoming effectively unplayable. Meanwhile the more 'accurate' average of around 60% for my mains does not come from usually getting 2 sacrifices per trial with the occasional 3rd, but from having a rough split between 3-4k matches and 4 man escapes complete with teabags at the Exit Gate. My experience may not be universal, but then neither is the experience of the pro DBD player who gets ridiculous win streaks on S-tier Killers (I suspect the problem there is with the Killers they play, not with Killers in general: I've not seen someone complete that challenge on Skull Merchant).

Finally, few of the changes proposed will actually affect the status quo. While I'm generally in favour of the anti-slugging changes– though the specifics may become problematic– the anti-tunnel changes will not bother the best Killers in the game and not help the worst. It doesn't matter that gens become unstoppable and Survivors get a buff to repair speed if a cracked Nurse or Blight can still kill everyone at 4 gens. An Onryo does no better with basekit Pop and BBQ if Survivors can still effectively ignore her power and clear 3 gens before she gets her first hook.

If these changes do go through as described, and the numbers are actually meaningful, it probably will cause a drop in kill rates, but only in the Killers who already struggled to secure kills without tunnelling (who also tend to be the ones more accessible to newer players, players on console and players with disabilities). In that case, I hope it prompts BHVR to have a deep look at those Killers, the flaws in their designs, and the changes that could be made to them and the game more widely to close the gap between top and bottom tiers, so there's actually an incentive to play anyone other than the top 5.

I'll take things that will never happen for 500, Alex.

  • @Firellius said:

Three universal basekit buffs versus conditional nerfs that mostly slightly balance out a situation where the killer's already winning.

I never tunnelled, camped or slugged, this is a HUGE buff to me without having to do anything for it.

Lol. Are you honestly trying to tell me that you've NEVER hooked a survivor twice in a row to get someone out of the game at 1 or 2 gens left? I don't believe you.

  • "These are not balancing changes."

Proceeds to make the biggest balance change in the history of DBD.

I'm sorry, but I don't think half an addon here and there is going to make up for, "You're no longer allowed to punish survivor misplays. If a survivor that you've already hooked makes a bad play, you must ignore them and go after someone else. If you don't, you'll automatically lose the game."

No, they haven't. They've said the opposite. Mandy said about a month ago that if killers start losing games, they'll eventually find themselves at their "appropriate" mmr after losing enough times in a row.

Oh, gosh, you mean that killers will find ways to try to win? The absolute HORROR!

It's becoming clear that it's less "I'm forced to tunnel" and more "I want to tunnel". Because BHVR are not only giving buffs to incentivise not tunnelling, but removing tunnelling means it can no longer hide any shortcomings from weaker killers and they will likely receive necessary changes as a result

Oh, please. We've heard this argument so many times. "Hey, guys, we know this survivor buff will absolutely destroy weak killers, but we NEED it to go through because of Nurse. But don't worry, we can balance weaker killers later when we know how it will affect them!"

Except it never happens. Or if it does, the buffs are so meaningless that it's laughable. "Here's half an addon as basekit." Pig jumped from low D tier to high D tier. Trapper is still untouched. Demo has still been power crept up the whazoo. All of the C and D tier killers are still C and D tiers.

Can you read? It already happens all the time, people are used to it.

Queue times as survivors will never get bad since killer is literally the most desired role, I don't tunnel nor do I slug so the faster queue times with the extra bonuses after hooking different survivors is gonna fit very nicely into my playstyle however other killers that are so accustomed to having to tunnel to win or heavy slugging are gonna start struggling really hard.

Gotta say bye to those training wheels dawg, it's time for them to come off.

Plus these slug changes besides crawling while recovering isn't problematic in the slightest 90 seconds total slug and even if you down them when they get up again they gotta recover 32s.

Soloq survivors won't be as abused anymore (ofc they will it's the weakest role by far) but this will help a bit.

Lol. Plenty of killers will drop the game if these changes hit live, because SWF will basically be an instant "I Win" button against all but 2, maybe 3 killers.

I know, because I'm one of them lol. I havent touched the game since the Streetwise and Fog Vial patch, and now I have no intentions of coming back any time soon, if ever. I'm not going to play a pvp game where I'm punished for playing well or capitalizing on opponent's mistakes.

While you're staring at ten minute queues, I'll be skonging.

    Literally.

Cool. Then you'll be used to it. And you'll just have to wait longer to get into these matches.

  • @Firellius said:

No way you're not trolling lol. This is literally the most one-sided patch in the history of DBD lol.

  • Hope survivors like twenty minute queues followed by a five minute match against cracked sweat lord Nurse or Blight that hasn't seen the sun since 2019 lol. Oh, and she won't give two ######### about the anti-tunnel system or anti-slug system… because she doesn't have to. These things only actually apply to killers that have to slow down the game in order to compete.

  • @Rudjohns said:

    Go for the points

Don't need to go with details on how it should work, but basically:

-Killer spread hooks and all survivor escapes
They get around 40k to 50k points from the match

-Killer hard tunnels survivors and kill everybody
    They get around 5-7k points

So it's all about their choice. They pick which type of fun they want to have.

Also, anti-tunnel survivor perks should be drastically buffed:

Decisive Strike doesn't have a timer. Activates upon the first pick up. Neither Off The Record or Blood Rush, but conspicuous Action still comes to play.
These anti-tunnel perks are balanced even if they are that strong because survivors will get the best of them if the killer tunnels, but if not, if they want to use their perks they can't progress through the game without deactivating them. And adding a couple of other buffs to other perks to hard counter both tunneling and slugging as well should be okay.

At the end of the day, these changes are much better than what they presented in the PTB

Lol. Yeah guys! Don't pay attention to the fact that you lose every match and get tbagged for two minutes at every exit gate and bullied in EG chat, because you got some fake video game points! Yaaaaay!

  • Lol. I hope you enjoy staring at the queue screen. Because if these changes go Live, survivor queues will hit ten minutes within a month. And once you're done sitting in those queues, you'll finally get a match against a cracked, sweat lord Nurse that hasn't seen the Sun in two years, and she won't give two fudges about the anti-tunnel or anti-slug systems… because she doesn't have to. And after you get sent back to the lobby, you'll be treated to another ten minute queue while you wait with baited breath for your next match… against a cracked, sweat lord Blight that hasn't seen the Sun in two years and doesn't give a fudge about the anti-tunnel or anti-slug systems… because he doesn't have to.

To be entirely fair, I doubt the amount of losses would bring it down to that 219 number. And the amount of effort to create and implement a queue "filter" (I don't even know what to call it) seems highly unlikely that it would even be a thing.

I thought it was proven that Fog Whisperers were given preferential queues? That they were given shorter queue times and more favorable mmr.

I mean if we want to bring comp teams into the conversation.. survivors have like a max 219? That is the literal seal team 6 situation taking 4 highly coordinated people to get 219. Mean while one dude on blight knocks out a 1900+. Your arguments hinge on the best of the best but using that metric means killers are highly over preforming.

Lol. You do realize he's a fog whisperer, right? Have you noticed that you never see a fog whisperer playing against comp players? Otz and Tru3 play at roughly the same time on the same servers, yet Tru3 is consistently against comp survivors, and Otz is against potatoes that run into walls.

Just a funny little thing I noticed.

60% KR (ya know, the devs goal number) so probably mid range. I get great teams and bad teams. My matches are often long and grueling actually. I'd post the 20-30 minute times but the match history part of the stats page hasn't worked for me for killer matches in some time.

I'm not sure why MMR is always where this discussion goes. What's even the implication? That the tiny fraction of killer mains in the top 5%-10% are the only players that should be considered when changes occur and all the low, mid, and casual players who make up the vast majority are just screwed?

Because survivor skill levels vastly change between MMR levels. So your wins against mediocre survivors aren't due to game balance, but because of survivors messing up.

This is blow out of proportions. Your assumptions require not a 4 man with comms team but a highly cracked team equivalent to a SWAT team... You need like full understanding of the maps layout, have a full time scout that is following the killer. And a bunch of other stuff. Also how does comms ruin stealth killers anymore then any other team?

Here is what my opinion comms give survivors.

They can communicate that you are camping them wether slugged or on hook.

They coordinate hook safes to reduce no one going for the save or everyone.

You can call out to a injured survivor who escaped chase and heal them. (Failed escape would just get healed by unhooker)

The rest of your stuff is wild. Calling out a hex Totem location not in a really well landmarked location would be a nightmare to explain... Probably resulting in more time wasted then actually gained.

As for the rest of your claims the UI HuD gives almost all of that. You can see a gen close to completion you should have a general idea by end of game where the last few gens are.. and at 5-3 gens this seems less useful. Blindness oblivious and undectable.. are still all strong you can make an argument about blindness but oblivious and undetectable absolutely still have value... Your argument assumes that survivors have x-ray vision of the map and can give real time coordinates to each other at all times. Your absolutely just going to show up with u detectable and get them jump of them still especially on indoor maps.

Now I think it's important to mention swf escape rates are not even magnitudes higher then solo que. It's a few % and like 8-9% at the highest MMR last time I checked.

Lol. Are you seriously using the argument, "Not all survivors use the comms that well!"

Yeah, well not all Nurses are that good at blinking. Guess we need to give her a bunch of buffs then, right?

Rip Obsession Builds and any other playstyle, oh also Rip Phymid Head. Rip Unknown Players like myself because the new Changes will make him also unplayable because he needs to be unpredictable mainly with his Hallucinations placements and UVX.

Rip Killer mains we will not be missed because the devs and survivor mains dont obviously care

    Dead game walking.

There is no reason to panic just yet i doubt the changes will go live without major tweaks to them as they only have been announced for like a day and the backlash is getting pretty intense. If they do go live as they are right now i imagine the forums and twitter will look akin to a warzone

Honestly, none of these changes should ever see the light of day

That's a really drastic number assumption. You think 100% of the players playing 90% of the roster were tunneling and slugging? Because that's not my experience.

The only high mobility killer I use is Dracula. Otherwise I play Wesker, Plague, Doctor, Myers. I wasn't tunneling or slugging and I'm not worried about any of them. I'm just getting buffs.

Then you're either playing at low mmr, or you're losing a large portion of your matches in about 5 minutes.

This is almost certainly going to be an evolving process. And a much needed one because much of the gameplay has become stale. They will likely keep doing what they're planning to do by buffing some killers basekit but not the stronger ones.

And how long will that take? How long will it take so that 90% of the roster aren't "I Lose" buttons against survivors with more than 100 hours?

1 2 3 4 5 … 17
