FttE really only has significant value for killers with high mobility. So like Blight, Wraith, Onryo, Dredge, etc. For most killers it has little utility.
MFT was guaranteed value for anyone who takes a hit, for as long as they were injured. This is a bad comp.
That said, on killers with great mobility, it can be really oppressive. I remember one game against a really skilled Dredge who used it as part of a nasty build and it was one of the worst beatdowns I've personally been a part of.

They probably wanted to put the game more into skill and game sense instead of just having information handed to you for free. You have to determine what perks are in play instead of simply knowing.
Yeah, and I personally agree with that sentiment, but for new players there are a lot of perks to learn, and it can be rough. Most people here will likely deduce what perks their opponents might be running, but for a new player with little game sense, it might be confusing and frustrating.
But otoh, I don't really believe in hand holding. It's a conundrum.
But in some cases, showing the effect when it is active almost entirely negates the benefit of running the perk. Dissolution comes immediately to mind.

Aura reading perks in this game have gotten out of control.
There are a ton now for sure (a couple of them are staples in my killer builds), but I wouldn't be surprised if the increase in aura reading is meant to balance out the decrease in slowdown/gen defense. And with many Blight/Nurse players running as many aura perks as they can get their grubby little hands on, Distortion is really appealing just to give yourself a chance.
Again, I run Distortion constantly, but also keep myself right in the middle of the action. I mostly want to know if and what aura perks the killer is running, and to delay having the killer right up my ass right at the beginning of the match (since like half of all killers in my matches are running LP). I hate hiders am at about the opposite end of the spectrum as what people are labeling Distortion users as.
Maybe I'm a unicorn, but I doubt it. I think characterizing most distortion users as selfish, immersing, hatch scummers is just another gross generalization.
-
I run Distortion in just about every build, and I am a pretty altruistic/selfless surv player (too selfless for solo, honestly, I would probably escape 20% more if I didn't play the way I do).
There are just so many aura reading perks for killers now (I know, I play a lot of killer and use them, except for LP), it just makes sense to run Distortion. Plus it doesn't protect survs from UW, which is pretty meta right now, so it's far from OP.
Also, if you were a player who runs Distortion and hides/immerses and generally avoids the killer, you'd run out of tokens pretty quickly, and the perk would become useless. To me. it's most useful in two scenarios: right a the beginning (Lethal), and when playing around the action (Floods of Rage, Nowhere to Hide).
Beyond that, I haven't noticed any more tunneling in my matches since I started running it consistently.

Wouldn't this be recycling the problem, with the added issue of asking BHVR to invest a bunch of time in creating badge art for every character? Half the point of adding badges and removing the prestige from the lobby was because people were lobby-dodging P100s.
Of course with badges/cards, it's the player's choice whether to to display them or not. That's a key difference.
I think they need to reward P100 with some sort of customization option, be it cosmetic(s) or badges/cards. And I suspect they will, eventually.
-
With the right add ons and perks (and a decent player), she's difficult to deal with even if the survs do exactly what they should. Taking a tape early is a curse if she knows where you are when you do.
Before, the condemnation mechanic was an afterthought, almost a non-factor unless you played like a total dbag. Now it's too prevalent.
Without getting into the details, I'd like to see it dialed back (not all the way into non-relevance, but like halfway), and buffs to her freaking chase. Or Stealth. Remove her lullaby for one thing, regardless of anything else.

Flashlights are only killswitched if you restart your client.
Just gonna practice Artist for a bit tonight.
If I play killer tonight, it'll be PH.
If I play surv and see teammates do this, I'm gonna sandbag the ######### out of them, then report
-
Not sure why they're touching Huntress at all, tbh. She's fine, and has been since the Iri Head nerf, imo. Seems like a waste of resources with others actually in need of fixing.
-
All SWFs are playing with an inherent advantage, but not all of them are great. Or even good. You have to be able to utilize that advantage.
I face lots of of SWFs, but for every well oiled death squad (and they are out there), there are probably like ten groups who are just good-decent, and a handful who are still really bad.
I think maybe once every week (sometimes less often, sometimes more) I'll face a team that I feel I never really had a chance against because they were leveraging their SWF advantage to an uncounterable degree.
So yeah, not as big a problem as many make out.
-
They've now disabled flashlights again, haven't they?
I can't stand how some people will not just shamelessly exploit bugs, but then act as if they are compelled to do so just because they can. Like "what do you expect me to do?" Can people not even process the idea of having access to an unfair advantage, and simply not using it? I bet not, it's some sort of mental defect some people share.
I mean, how gratifying is it to "win" that way?

Why should Artist have a maximum range? Survivors have plenty of time to react to long range birds so it’s their fault if they get hit and the Artist made a good prediction. She’s fine the way she’s at now.
Yeah, the only time you can really get a cheap long range shot in with crows is at the beginning. Sometimes I'll run discordance at the start of a match and wait for for it to proc, then I'll send three spaced out crows and get a couple injuries right off as a party starter, but that only works once (maybe) if the survs are even semi-competent.
If someone is consistently getting injured by cross map crow shots, they have to be practically sleepwalking.
As for the others, Nurse perpetually comes up, but I don't think she's fixable without completely reinventing her. Nurse's imbalance is baked into her DNA. I just treat Nurse matches as a different game than DBD altogether.

Some people don't have the luxury my dude...
Well, yeah. And there's no "fault"; If you don't have the luxury or the option, that sucks, but is simply is what it is. People can't reasonably expect BHVR to scrap their DC system because someone's internet sucks.
I lived for years in a place where the best internet I could get wasn't stable enough for anything more than the most basic online gaming. So I didn't play online games. And I lived through it.
But what I was more advocating in my post is that if your internet is acting up (and everyone's does from time to time), just leave it for a while. Reboot your router and take a walk. Watch a movie. Read. Play an offline game. Come back to it later.
There are lots of people out there that just keep banging their head into the wall (metaphorically) when their network is having an episode and then cry when they get penalized more. Like when a page or something won't load and people just keep spamming the button like it's gonna change something.

I might actually pick the same three, maybe swap in Knight for Trickster. Mostly because I almost never face Tricksters anymore.
I hate SM, and for whatever reason, I detest facing the Wraith.
Nurse and Blight are just their own thing. I don't hate them as much as just kind of go into autopilot and wait for the next match when I see them. I don't really even care about the outcomes of those matches.
-
In a world where SWF didn't exist and you could balance everything around solo queue, it would make more sense for communication/info in match to be minimal. But we don't live in that world, so solo needs some extra info, but not too much. I actually think the HUD update gets us very nearly to the limit of where I feel it should go. Add a "going for the save" button and I'd call it a day for in game info additions.
That said, I've got weird sensibilities about things and tend to like what makes sense in the game world, and like for things to be "lore friendly" or at least consistent with the pretenses of the world.
For example, I don't like voice comms because I don't think survivors would be able to communicate cross map in the game world; it doesn't feel in the "spirit" of the game to me. It makes sense in modern shooters, but not in DbD.
On the other hand, it would make sense for survs compare perks when hanging out around the campfire, etc., so I think being able to see each other's perks pre-match is something that should happen.

I know. That's what I'm trying to understand why I got banned in the first place, since it was a disconnect issue.
But how many times did it happen? If it was just once, that's inexplicable, as you shouldn't go from zero to 24 hours for one disconnection.
But if it happened multiple times, you probably should have stopped playing for a while. Can't be certain, but if you got the penalty, the issue is most likely on your end (your network). I've been booted and received a penalty before, but if it happens more than once in a short period, I'll just stop playing and give my connection time to stabilize.
Their system can't differentiate between an intentional DC, unplugging your ethernet, or your internet crashing.

Weaponizing anti-tunnel mechanics and perks is a very depressing thing to see for me personally. Something that should be healthy is used in a way that is extremely unhealthy.
Similar to Stbfl in camping situations.
And that is why we can't have nice things.
It's why DS got kneecapped to begin with - some people just can't seem to help themselves.
-
Absolutely not. If the unhooked survivor uses their endurance (meant for them to get away) to obstruct the killer from going after the unhooker (you know, trying not to tunnel), they have ZERO basis to claim tunneling. None.
I always go after the unhooker as standard practice, but also as a practice, if a surv uses their post unhook protection to block me from trying not to tunnel (and it has to clearly be bodyblocking), I am going to remove them from the game, and I have no second thoughts about it.
I'm trying to go after someone else, so gtfo. If you refuse to run and in effect demand the killer's attention, don't act wronged when you get all of it.
Players who cry about being tunneled after doing this can mald into the void, because they're in the wrong.
-
It was off for weeks (months?) for me and it seems like I've seen more dodging since it was turned back on.
And not just when I use a P100 surv; also (perhaps moreso) having other survs dodge when I use a surv where my prestige is low.
Prestige, especially for survs, isn't necessarily an indicator of anything. That P100 might only play (or have played) that character, only plays casually. That P3 surv might be a player who has multiple P100s, 9K hours, and is a god.
You can't make any assumptions based on prestige, but people sure do, and it's annoying.
They should just turn it off. I want to say they should give players special cosmetics for reaching P100 (which they absolutely should do regardless of what they do about prestige icons), but people would probably dodge when they see those as well.

I think the easiest solution for this problem is just adding a Wheel with some determinated messages, as "Repairing", "I will go unhooking", "Killer camping" things like that, you dont need a voice chat, or even a chat, having that wheel that works for the whole map would make a huge difference for solo Q.
I think the HUD gives solo most of what it needs already (in particular being able to see others repair progress was a huge addition); what is missing that I would add is a "going for the save" and the "killer camping" options you mention, though I used to take fast arm flapping as the latter. The former would almost be enough, imo, as it would save a ton of time and confusion.
And yeah, voice chat in DBD is a big HELL NO from me. In this community? I want no part of that. If it were added, it'd become almost a requirement, and I'd honestly probably stop playing survivor.
-
Like half of surv tome challenges essentially require you to throw the game, and seemingly always have. It's pretty annoying.
-
Nah. In addition to all the reasons listed already, you as the killer have a lot of control with regard to when UW gets triggered, and can use it strategically. With Spies, it's a lot more passive, and won't detect survs sneaking around.
-
I'll always let them have it, but I expect the health state/hit in return.
On occasion I've swung/hit before I realized they were working on a glyph, and I always feel bad about it.

That is true for killers (1st person)
In comp, the majority agrees that playing survivor on controler is significantly better then M&K. Many top 1v1 players switched to Controler.
This is true. I play almost exclusively on PS5, but when I do play on PC, I used M&K for killer, but still a controller for survivor. The two roles demand different things mechanically, and controller just works better for surv, imo.
Console killers do play a a distinct disadvantage though. And even when using controller, you have more optimization options on PC.

I still hold out an absolute fool's hope that we get a total overhaul. Throw imitation Freddy in the bin and replace him with Robert Englund, voice lines, and Nancy.
It's probably never happen, but man would it be glorious. One of the things Chucky has done is remind me of what Freddy should have been; their movie versions are quite similar.

Good thing that's exclusive to killers and survivors are shining beacons of virtue.
Yeah, I love when people say dumb isht like that; tell me you play pretty much only one side without actually saying it.
Your average surv player is just as nasty, sweaty, and toxic as your average killer player, no question. People are generally just the worst.
In fact, you're more likely to run into a POS surv since you play against 4 every match.
I just have all my chat/messaging disabled, and don't even expose myself to it anymore. Keeps me from feeling even worse about my fellow humans than I already do, lol.
-
This is not a new narrative.
Every time a new killer comes out that is even remotely strong, especially if they're even a little "atypical" a decent sized section of the surv base does this. They just want to keep using the same tactics and have hissy fits about how nerfs are needed, or stage dumb in game protests, or DC en masse.
We just saw this with Xeno.
Then they either actually quit the game, or they put on their adult pants and learn how to play against them.

I understand they can be used to evade aura reading, I'm saying I rarely use them for that reason. Maybe if I'm in a dead zone, injured working on a gen and have a locker right next to me I'll do it, or if I'm the last one alive and I want to look for hatch without getting immediately chased.
If you're dropping whatever you're doing to go find a locker in order to avoid BBQ, then you're not a very good survivor.
There's Built to Last and Inner Strength, Head On, and a number of other totally legit reasons to jump in a locker now and then, even for very good players. Unless the player is constantly doing it, or you know what their build is, myob.
Even setting all that aside, it's still pointless to open a locker with a surv in it to "shame" them or something. It's like standing up and staring at a teammate who missed a skill check. It's just a waste of your own time.
-
@coco_shotz said:
You are possibly the only killer on this forum who actually has the mentality of letting survivors go at any point for any reason. Most killers just resort to tunneling at 5 gens and being as annoying as possible in making sure nobody gets away
Well that's not even remotely true. I do it, I have friends that do it, and as a surv I encounter killers who do it with some frequency. The killer base isn't some sweaty monolith. Hell, when you get down to it anytime a killer doesn't slug for the 4K, they're essentially saying they're okay with at least one surv getting out (as they should).
There are tons of wholesome killers out there.
But anyways, on to the question:
- I'll let a surv (or two) go if their teammates are actively throwing and/or acting the fool (including sandbagging). If there's a three man and they are stiffing the rando, I'm going to try to make sure the rando gets out and the others don't.
- While much less likely than before bots, I'll often let a surv(s) go if they have a teammate or more DC or suicide on hook early in the match. Before bots, I almost always did.
- I'll sometimes let a surv go if they were really good and their teammates were total potatoes (i.e. a matchmaking victim)
- If two survs are left in an "unwinnable" situation, and one is still working on objectives while the other is hiding/scumming for hatch, I will almost always give every effort to track down/kill the latter and let the former go. I hate that isht as a surv, and I bring it to my killer play.
- If I find the last surv trying to open the exit gate and they offer up their item, it's a coin flip. Unless it's an Ace; all Aces must die. I hate their smug faces.

While I do think that DS should be buffed back up to 5 seconds, lets not pretend it would fix tunnelling. Tunnelling would still be heavily prevalent and will always be unless they outright prevent it.
Yeah, people act like old DS was effective, but killers still tunneled even when the stun was longer on top of not being deactivated by conspicuous actions.
Tunnelers gonna tunnel, and frankly I actually lol'ed a bit when I read "tunneling meta". It always has been, at least no less than it is now. You can mitigate it a bit, but tunneling is a player problem, a sort of ideological defect, more than a game design problem.
You could make the DS stun 10 seconds and a player who just has it out for you is gonna find you and continue, even if they throw the game to do it.
FWIW, I'd make the DS stun 7 seconds and/or add in an "orange glyph" type handicap for a set time, but have zero expectation it would "end tunneling". That's never gonna happen.

I legitimately agree. I think the game is more fun as a surv when I go into matches feeling like death is the most likely outcome; success is always more rewarding when the odds are against you, at least as bit.
In a game ostensibly based on horror tropes, it only seems right. Horror movies wouldn't be as enjoyable if most of the cast didn't die.
-
I play every day because it has become routine, but most days I am totally apathetic about it; just going through the motions. Half the time I am doing something else while playing.
Maybe a lot like the rest of life these days.
But I often wonder why I am playing DBD instead of the mountain of fresh games in my backlog.
-
No, I don't think I will tunnel. Why?
- A lot of survs (most of the casuals) already think they're being tunneled even when they aren't, so not much would change.
- BHVR would probably respond by nerfing the killers hard, and in a way that doesn't even remotely relate to tunneling, because BHVR
- Tunneling has no real solution anyway, so it would be an exercise in futility
- Tunneling is hella boring. I want to relax when playing, not shut my brain all the way off
- Self-respect is a thing, and I have to look at myself in the mirror, and if I was a chronic tunneler that would get a lot harder for me

I have ~3.5K hours on PSN and actually bought a Steam copy and play it from time to time, but will never commit more than a handful hours (usually just PTB) to the PC version. All the progress and cosmetics earned over four years are just too much to abandon.
If cross progression ever happens, it'll be PC all day long, but not until then.

Not nearly what it was, but definitely not useless.

Yeah, this was a pretty clear example of placing the trap too close to the vault (which we've all done), but I've seen some instances were it's borderline unbelievable that the surv didn't trigger a trap.
As weak as Trapper is, I don't think it would be out of bounds to expand the "trigger area" around a trap a bit to cut down on the some of the more egregious instances.

I don't really pay attention to the devotion of others, but I'm devotion 16 at ~3.5k hours, I'm not sure it scales perfectly, but that probably puts a devotion 61 gamer at ~13k hours, which is insane. I know these people exist, but it's still insane.

Crosshairs? How tf could I pull this off on my Xbox? Aiming with a controller is quite poopy in DBD.
Some monitors come with crosshair options.
If you want to go really low tech, when navigating screens, the circle cursor will always reset to the dead center of the screen, and I've heard some folks will stick a little paper dot or something right in the middle of it for a makeshift aim assist.
Is it cheating? I don't think so. Is it even an "unfair" advantage? Probably not. Is it kind of a "training wheels" crutch that will keep you from getting better? For sure.
That said, aiming with a controller is kind of an exercise in frustration, so I can almost forgive it on console.

Bubba - "basically has no real counterplay." he has plenty of counterplay.
Adrenaline - "for too little effort" well you have to survive to end game. A lot of the time you get no value from it.
HUD changes- couldn't disagree more. You seem to contradict yourself too. You say it only benefits good players and bad players ignore it but at the same time you say it discourages players to learn and it's "training wheels". But like you mention the Hud doesn't make you a good player. The Hud only tells you what those on comms are able to communicate.
Totally agree with this.
Adrenaline only gives you value if you make to end game and are injured/hooked. at least half the time you get no value. I just can't look at a perk that only gives you value part of the time as being unfair.
And the HUD was huge (maybe vital) for solo queue and almost irrelevant to players in SWF/comms, so it's helping those who need it (which is most of the surv player base), and not so much the survs who were already dominating.
What do I think is really, truly unfair? Not much. Blight's busted add-ons, Nurse's power (I don't even really look at Nurse matches as even being part of the broader game), SWF comms (but that really doesn't matter, since there's nothing to be done for it).
And none of that keeps me up at night or anything.
Now that I think of it, map balance (or lack thereof) is probably the most unfair thing in the game; being immediately screwed by the parameters of the match isn't ideal.
-
Totally depends. For example, are you getting stunned after a few loops, and the surv is really wasting your time? Or is it your first chase they just dropping every pallet right away? In the former case you might be throwing to keep chasing, but in the latter case you can win the game by letting them feed you their resources.
I would argue that knowing when (and being willing) to drop chase it probably the most important aspect of killer game sense, but being stunned by a pallet isn't some sort of sure sign of when that point is. It's a sense that only comes with time.

My g, what a Freddy epidemic on this forum recently. Literally more posts than about Chucky, lol.
I don't think there's any mystery why. Freddy and Chucky were horror contemporaries, very similar in terms of tonality, and one has been done lovingly, and the other one is barely an effigy. Chucky makes Freddy stand out.
Once Chucky goes live, you'll see a lot more talk about him.
-
Seeing Chucky has only made me feel more like we need to see current Freddy totally deleted and replaced with OG Freddy, if such a thing is contractually possible.
Burn it down and replace it.
-
In theory, I never had any problem with Chucky being in DBD; he's an icon of the genre (maybe more comedy horror, but still an icon).
My reservations were all around how he could be implemented in the game, and whether he could be done justice. I just didn't want to see another shell of an icon added just for the sake of adding a name (like Freddy).
I never even considered BHVR would do something unprecedented like add a third person perspective killer (which is really what makes it work), and they surprised me. I'm happy to have my concerns be relieved.
I don't know how strong or weak he'll end up being, but the uniqueness of his implementation and the voice lines/trash talking alone are worth the price of admission. It's hilarious and totally on brand.
And all of this makes me even sadder we don't have the loud, bombastic, trash talking, Robert Englund Freddy Krueger. Such a waste.

This could have nothing to do with a new chapter.
Could this instead be a clue towards a Myers rework being announced with the patch notes tomorrow? Given that the knife missing is very similar to the kitchen knife that Myers uses it would make a lot of sense that this is indicating that this is a new rework and not a new chapter tease.
Pretty sure a lot of people have considered it. I hope that's what it is, but not confident.

Considering those are from the only four knife-wielding Killers, and someone took one from a knife rack, it has to be Chucky. I can't think of why anyone else would have to steal or find a weapon like Chucky would given how small he is, and out of all of them it being Myers' kitchen knife?
If it's not Chucky, then I have zero idea who else stole kitchen knives.
There are six; Wesker and Ghostface are also knife wielders, and weren't represented in the teaser.
I was going to say that the knives were only from re-worked killers, but GF also got a notable re-work. So who knows.
-
Sure seems like Chucky is likely, but man, I'm not sure how that would work mechanically.
I remember when they had to change Blight's POV because people hated being that low all game, this would be miles worse unless they do something really creative (which would almost certainly have to be non-canonical).
As others have mentioned, it's also quite possible this is not related to the new killer and is a Myers re-work.
I'm of mixed feelings here, because I like Chucky as a character, but can't see him working in the the DBD format.
-
It's quite useful in solo queue and/or for players who haven't developed a really strong sense for map/tile layout.
But to some degree, I see it as a little bit of a "training wheels" perk, and suspect it holds back beginner players from leaning some things organically.
But it's nowhere near strong enough to warrant a nerf. When playing killer I'd be perfectly fine with my opponents all running WoO instead of something stronger, and tbh I'm a little surprised to see it as often as I do. As a surv, I think I've run it maybe ~20 times in all the years I've been playing; I'd rather run something better.
