If you think this is bad, you should have seen the patch they introduced a "validation" when being hit through a pallet.

I swear to ya: I hit a David with Leatherface's chainsaw, I heard his screaming, I saw the blood... and he walked away as if nothing had happened. Frustrating to the extreme.

Or when they had the validation thing going on with DH. That was bad. You'd see the hit, hear the scream, see the blood, and go to pick up, and the surv was gone.

  • I think that even if we recognize that being able to hit someone on the other side of a vault actually makes sense, it's always gonna feel cheap as hell (like 80% of the time I vent at my TV when playing DBD it's because I got hit at a window). It just is what is its, and it's even more of that when latency is bad.

  • Having multiple survs escape when you were winning, especially when trying to play the "right" way (i.e. spreading hooks) felt bad, man.

Also remember the bad things the old key/hatch system encouraged (lots of Franklin's, tunneling out anyone with key in lobby, etc).

If this was brought back, I'd want one hook (or no hook) moris also brought back to balance that out. Alternative paths to victory and all that.

  • As primarily console player (at least until we get cross progression, lol), I tend to ignore killers who are really limited by controller (Blight, Oni, Billy, etc.), except Huntress. I can never be as good with her as I can on PC, but just good enough for it to still be fun.

Also, I like playing Spirit (I used to be a Spirit main), even though I have lateral hearing loss (i.e. no directional hearing, really) and most often play from my couch on a TV with no headphones. Obviously this is a massive handicap with that particular killer. If we ever get visual directional audio cues in game, I may actually get to be good with her, which would be awesome.

  • That doesn't even crack my top 100 BS window hits. Or 1000, probably.

    @Seraphor said:

Looked like a valid hit to me, was barely even through the window.

You realise the killers hitbox reaches through the window right? It can look a bit funky on Chucky because he's short, but all killers share the same basic attack hitbox.

I agree that it looks far worse than it was because of the killer.

  • Feng seems like the obvious answer since her general presentation is cutesy, but if you really look at her face, it's...off. Kinda reminds me of a frog. A little unsettling, tbh.

If we're talking cute (like not the same as hot), Cheryl or Rebecca has to be it.

  • It's a tale as old as time: when things don't go they way they hope, many people have a tantrum, take their ball and go home.

And there's no excuse for it. If you queue up, play the game.

Don't get me wrong, the game can be totally exasperating sometimes. But if you're not having fun, play out the match you're in, and then do something else. I did this last night: I played like five games, almost all of which were full of absolute nonsense, so I just quit after my last game. But I didn't give up in game. If there's at least one other player who seems to be actually trying, I will too.

If you're someone who finds themselves consistently giving up on games and/or removing yourself from the game, maybe taking a total break from DBD is the more appropriate course of action. You're not showing your displeasure to BHVR by quitting in game, you're screwing other players.

I hear a lot of people justify quitting by pointing out the state of the game/solo queue, but then they keep queuing up. If you're not going to play, don't play.

  • It's because they're salty their build got countered. And for a Nurse it's even more poopy diapers crying, imo. My response would be to ask if they're bad because they need to see everyone to play well.

Beyond this specific case, a lot of players on both sides seem to feel really entitled to get constant value from their perks, but the risk of your perks being countered by their perks has always been part of the game. And it makes it more fun, imo. There's always going to be a chance that your build is going to be partially nullified by what your opponents are running, and that's fine. That's the way the game is designed.

As far as Distortion goes, if the killer is running 2-3 aura perks, you're not getting a ton of value out of it anyway. Against an aura reading Huntress/Blight/Nurse/etc. (or a Scratched/Vanity Mirror Myers, lol), those tokens get chewed through quickly.

But what it really boils down to is that the killer player is being a big baby because they can't see everyone all the time when they felt their perks guaranteed they should be able to. As a killer, I run aura reading perks a lot. But I don't get mad when they are countered. I adjust.

  • Boring:

    1. Skull Merchant
    2. Legion
    3. Freddy

    Annoying:

    1. Wraith
    2. Legion
    3. Doctor

I think a lot of people listing Wesker as boring are conflating being sick of him with him being a boring killer to face. In a vacuum, he's very fun to face. But as with all things, moderation is necessary.

  • Yes, Nurse is broken on a fundamental level, and is out of place in DBD. This is widely accepted. There is no tweak or nerf that is going to "fix" her.

    So what can you do?

    1. Totally remake her; throw her power away and take her back the the drawing board. But that's a ton of work, and isn't likely to ever happen.
    2. Delete her. Won't happen for obvious reasons: lots of people have a lot of time/money invested in her, and you can't just take her away without creating a lot more work (in finding some sort of compensation).
    3. Do nothing, just look the other way.

It's gonna be #3, so the best we can do is just accept it. I don't play as Nurse, and I don't really think of games against her in the same way as any other matches. I just turn on the autopilot when I hear her screech.

  • What would make the game mildly challenging would be not running Alc Ring/C33. If someone is gonna run them, that's fine, but just go mask off and run a full build because you like smashing people.

Running those add-ons and then using only two perks is like going to elementary school and beating up some kids with only one arm. Yeah, you won, but what did it prove, really?

Of course it'll be a moot point soon enough (probably).

  • It's mostly just kind of sad, sweaty killer behavior, imo. If I don't have at least a good idea where the last surv is, I'm just hooking the second to last and letting what happens happen. Life's too short to lie on the ground for four minutes, or to waste that time scouring the map.

Of course people can play that way if they choose, but I just think it's kind of pathetic.

  • It's to sell themselves on the idea that running only two perks evens things out, and quiet that voice in their head telling them their add-ons are busted and it doesn't take much skill to win with them.

But it doesn't. Those two add-ons are giga-busted. Just dirty, and running no perks wouldn't balance the equation.

Adept Bubba was the first and only time where I rage quit dbd.

    Who can blame me.

I remember watching OhTofu trying to get Bubba's adept (he was doing a killer adept series) and nearly losing his mind.

I haven't tried most. I just don't care that much. I'll give it a shot when a killer first comes out, but for all the established killers I have at nearly 4K hours? Life's too short to deal with that mess.

  • @radiantHero23 said:

    Agree to disagree.

    Killer adept is harder.

"just tunnel someone out" is not the win-button you seem to think it is.

Getting killer adepts is definitely harder because killers are much more perk dependent. It's a little less so if the killer just dropped and your MMR for them is relatively low. If you are trying to get an adept for a well used killer that you might have a high MMR with, it can be pretty irritating.

Of course up until recently getting killer adepts was miles harder because getting a merciless rating wasn't as simple as a 4K, but the result of arcane mathematics that often made no sense.

  • Mine goes back and forth depending on time of day, and this has been more true for me recently. For a long while before it was mostly killer.

FTR, I play evening to early morning, afternoons on weekends. Western US.

  • Hexes haven't been good since the old Ruin/Undying days, imo. There are a handful of decent ones, but I don't run them because of the uncertainty. The can be strong, or they can be nullified almost immediately. There's enough luck/uncertainty in the game without me voluntarily adding more.

    I don't run NOED because I have self-respect.

And FWIW, think boons (including old CoH) would have been fine if BHVR had just done the obvious thing ant make Shattered Hope a basekit feature (i.e. have them work the same as hexes).

  • It's an imbalanced casual game that far too many people take way too seriously. You have a lot of people who play the game for chill fun, and then you have those who play like their lives hang on their win rate.

That is, because imo, its imbalance allows people who try really hard to feel like they are better gamers; it's easy to find and exploit the imbalanced mechanics (hard tunneling/SWFing, for example). I suspect many of these insecure people are very mid at actual comp/balanced/skill based games.

So that every time we leave a gen it explodes

I don't often miss skill checks, but 95% of the time it's in the nanosecond I let go of the damned thing. As predictable as the sunrise.

They should code it so that if a skill check is initiated within like .25 seconds of the button being released, it's just canceled.

As for the OP: everyone misses the occasional skill check (especially versus certain builds and/or Doctor), and if there weren't anything to do, doing gens would be even more boring ass dead time than it already is. My ADHD has me fighting not to look at my phone or surf the net while working on gens as it is.

It's so funny to me how consistently they give outfits backpacks even when it makes no sense. I think Haddie's monster slayer outfit is probably the most egregious example.

I wouldn't call it lazy per se as they are technically giving themselves extra things to model I just think it's too formulaic. They should be more willing to branch out and experiment, give us full helmets/masks that fully cover the face or more interesting designs on the back of shirts/jackets, Ace's bomber jacket comes to mind as a great example of this.

When we buy a cosmetic we want to see our character model and not have it be blocked by giant backpacks that aren't interesting to look at. It should be common sense but somehow they keep making the same mistake over and over.

I didn't mean lazy in that it's less work, but that it's creatively lazy. Like feeling like you need to add something to the design, and just literally tack on a cliché with some character specific flair and call it good.

But yeah, I'd rather have a cool design on the outfit itself than a giant, boring protuberance that just hinders me in game.

  • @Caiman said:

They rarely fit the outfit they're on, and they even more rarely look good.

Yeah, I really feel like they are a result of the cosmetic design team feeling like they need to add value to outfits, but they rarely look good. Sometimes less is more.

I've never picked up an outfit because of a backpack (or a helmet stored on the back, of which there are a few), but I certainly have decided not to buy an outfit because there is one.

And it's not just the aesthetics, these things make you way more visible to the killer.

  • Also, the big bloodweb overhaul a while back made prestiging way easier. It's half as expensive and three times as fast.

Where do you get so many BPs? You ever break from playing DbD?

I play for 4 years, did every book, every event and every achievement, and my highest prestige characters are Sadako, Spirit and Artist (all red background and around P10), other fav killers (Plague and Hag) are 6-7. And from survivor side only Jill P15, all other survivors are around P3.

Where do you get SO MUCH MONEY? 😶

Personally, I play a couple hours every day, on average. So not an extraordinary amount. If there's a Bloodhunt, I might play 3-4 hours a day. During really lucrative events (like the Anniversary and Lunar New Year), I really lean into it and then take a break.

Since it was introduced, I only (well, 95% of the time) play the role with the BP bonus at any given time, and I use all my BPS, cakes and other BP boosters only when I get maximum return. I keep an eye out for codes, etc., and redeem them when available. I usually und up in the iridescent grades for both roles every month.

Beyond that, I don't feel like I do anything unusual.

But really, the BHVR should give more BP. Like a lot more. If you compare their value to shards and auric cells, even "large" bonuses are comparatively tiny. I broke it down in another thread discussing what a joke the 400K Prime reward is when compared to a full outfit. The conversion rate there is bad.

  • That, and it's focus. If I pumped all my BP into the same few characters, I could have five P100s, too.

    To answer the OP:

    Haddie - P100

    Yui - P43

    Onryo - P33

    Jane - P27

    Plague - P25

But basically every killer/survivor I have to at least P10, except ones I just never play (Ace/Nurse/Blight)

  • True, but the dining room window is easily the worst. Or best, if you're playing surv. And it is just as strong as ever.

The others are strong, but not what I would call god windows (maybe the one in the upstairs gen room). And the one in the back upstairs with the chest is manageable, and is now sometimes closed off by a breakable wall.

But man, that dining room is big distance guaranteed unless you're a potato.

As killer, it's still pretty miserable.

  • If both the killer and all four survs play perfectly, I think that ends in a 4E.

Now the massive disclaimer here is that almost never happens. Essentially never. You need all four survs to be the same skill and play flawlessly. Getting four evenly paired survs is a rarity in and of itself. Having all four play totally optimally and mistake free? Not at all likely.

All players are human and 4v1 also means the surv team has 4x the opportunity for a misplay. It's much more common for a killer to play a "perfect" game than four survs in combination.

The chances of coming across 4 good survivors outside of SWF is rare (although it happens.)Individual survivors die no matter how good they are if their teammates aren’t carrying their weight. Even then, if the killer happens to start chasing the one good survivor first, that can cost the killer the entire game. Lastly, yes, there is a solid chance you can go a play session without seeing competent survivors because, again, most people are bad at the game.

Not to mention that not all four members of even a good SWF are good; even a great SWF usually has a weak link. Hell, all members of pro teams aren't totally equal.

I think it just shows that when you reach a certain skill level on a good killer the matchmaking just cannot find equally strong opponents. But yes I agree, if the matchmaking worked properly this should never happen...

And matchmaking would need to find not just one equally strong opponent each match, but four. And if it were so strict that it had to, the queue times would be insufferable.

  • @xEa said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3613196#Comment_3613196

Acording to your argument, good surivors beat good killers. Are you trying to say that in hundreds/thousend games, they never came across good survivors? That is extremly unlikely, especially when you believe people here claiming that every second game is against an unbeatable force.

The caveat should be that four good survs will usually beat a good killer. But three good survs and a weak link? That's a different story. And it usually is. You could run into the anointed golden god of all survs, but if their teammates are mid, most of that skill and experience loses its value.

And the it's also assumed that in the case of the extreme streaks, the killer player utilizes high efficiency and utterly ruthless tactics (i.e. hard tunneling).

The fact that these streaks haven't been ended by a SWF death squad also serves as evidence that there really aren't many of these out there, despite what many killers like to believe.

  • To be fair, I think (hope) what they meant was in a given match, odds are good that at least one of the survs isn't going to be great, and that's all it takes.

A decent chunk of the player base (maybe most?) aren't very good at the game. This is true of both sides, but the difference is that a killer is always going to be one of one, and a surv one of four, and a skilled killer only ever has to depend on themselves and won't be subject to the potential ineptitude of a teammate.

Or maybe they did mean killer players are more skilled than surv players across the board, which is just stupid. At a high level playing killer often demands more skill than playing surv, but that in no way means that killers are just more skilled on average. Especially since most of the best killer players are also very good survivor players, and vice versa.

And of course all of this is illustrative of the deep imbalance that facilitates the goofy streaks. In a balanced 1v1 setup, these streaks simply would never happen.

  • In a balanced game, most of these shouldn't be possible. No disrespect to anyone and their commitment to the game, but a 500 or 1600 win streak says as much or more about the imbalance of the game as it does the skill of the player.

    They are often entertaining, though.

Problem is, is the fact that if I try helping my team it usually will end with me getting left on hook.

And thus is the cycle of solo queue kept in motion.

People are conditioned to think that they're on their own in solo, so they play for themselves, which reinforces to everyone else that they're on their own, and so it goes.

But as far as your scenario goes, someone just has to go for it, even if it means dying. I just said it in another thread, but dying is sometimes likely death is just the route you need to accept.

The danger you run into with one of these standoffs is that the other surv alive is going to turn on you. And if the standoff has gone on long enough, even if the killer has nothing but disdain for the turncoat, they're gonna take that help because they just want out, and are going to be less annoyed with the surv who showed themselves.

  • I'll preface this by saying I hate 3-gen by design strat. Going into a match (or every match) with the intent of immediately finding and 3-gen and defending it is a miserable, pathetic way to play the game.

But if an impossible 3 gen forms by circumstance (usually survs just blindly working on gens as they come to them), and the killer chooses to then lock it down, they have won. It's just that simple. If the killer then refuses to leave the 3 gen to engage in a chase across the map that is clearly nothing but a distraction, that isn't holding the game hostage, imo. The survs made a bed they don't want to lie in, that's all.

I think a lot of people conflate "being able to progress the game" with having a plausible path to victory. Everyone should be entitled to the former, but not the latter. Sometimes your path to progress the game is to lose/die, and you just need to accept it. I'd much rather die in a vain attempt to break a three gen than sit there being pig headed about my impossible situation.

Now hopefully the 3 gen fix is fair and renders this all moot, but to me calling a killer defending a 3 gen "holding the game hostage" has always rung hollow. Is it fun or sporting? No, but your path out of the game is clear.

Trying to find two survs who are only trying not to be found is much worse because one side cannot get out the match, win or lose, without letting the 60 minutes lapse or disconnecting. If the two survs have two brain cells between them, keeping hidden is almost assured if that is their sole intent.

In such a scenario, only Ultimate Weapon gives you even a decent shot at finding one or both of them.

  • Leaving multiple survs on the ground for a prolonged period is one of the lamest things you can do in DBD. And leaving one surv on the going just to scour the entire map for the last surv because you're thirsty af for that 4K is in the conversation for the lamest.

So yeah, I'm not going to reward the killer's lame ass strat by just laying there forever waiting to be picked up. I'm going to waste as much of their time as I can, and hopefully deprive them of the sacrifice. Yeah, it's spite. And it's deserved.

  • Losing 1-2 gens before your first chase is completed is normal, and always has been. DBD matches have a predictable pace: things go quick early, then slow down as the killer has fewer gens to cover.

Gen speeds may be too quick, but you don't feel that as much early as late.

Yes in a shocking development, giving her most customization options has really boosted her pick rate. Funny how that works. I recently loaded into a lobby with two other P100 Haddies, which was kind of shocking.

In my recent experience, Elodie, Laurie, Ripley, and even Jane are more rare to see.

All that said, who I see really seems to ebb and flow. I feel like I went months and barely saw a single Cheryl, but I've seen a lot recently. We'll see more Elodie this month due to her reindeer onesie alone.

    Survivors need to adapt.

To be fair, those first three absolutely had it coming. Old DH was easily the most broken thing in the game for years (un unlike SB and Lithe, was actually an extra health state); its death was overdue and well deserved. Old DS needed nerfed, but certainly not to the degree it has been.

But coming for Lithe and SB is hilarious. Both have a somewhat limited use opportunity. None of the current exhaustion perks are problematic at all as they are restricted in various ways.

Windows is a baby perk (I'm more that fine with my opponents running that), Distortion is fine. FTP+BU might be a bit much in tandem.

But this is just one side of the surv/killer entitlement coin; some people just don't want their opponent to have any useful tools at their disposal.

  • @Coffeecrashing said:

It doesn't matter if the perk has a risk, or if it doesn't get a lot of values in certain games.

What is a problem, is the value it gets in some games, when the killer is using a character/perks/addons that get massively countered by Distortion. As in, the maximum value gained by this perk is broken. "Wraith" counters Distortion doesn't help if I'm not playing Wraith. And "people stacking lots of aura reading perks" doesn't help if I'm not stacking lots of aura reading perks. In some of my games, I'm just not ever revealing the Distortion player's aura at all, for at least half the game, and sometimes never at all in the entire game.

No offense, but so what? You rolled the dice on an aura dependent build and got hard countered. Nowhere is it guaranteed that you get value from the perks you run. Didn't get to see a survivor's aura all game? Maybe don't count on it. I run aura perks as a killer, and when there is a distortion gamer I don't get my knickers in a twist over it. That was a risk I took when I put those aura perks in my loadout.

I mean that's just DbD; every build is a gamble to some degree. There is always a risk that what your opponent is running is going to nullify what you are. That's an integral part of the game.

Where perks get into the unfair realm is when they guarantee game changing value in all circumstances, and can't be countered in any meaningful way (think old Eruption, DH, etc.). And it's absurd to say it doesn't matter is there is risk/reward value. Of course it does.

Distortion is fine, and this entire movement to have it nerfed is ridiculous. What is happening here is that we are kind of in an aura reading meta, and some people feel entitled to seeing those auras. Basically asking for guaranteed value from their perks. That's not how it works.

  • As others have said here, you don't get consistent value out of Distortion all that often. Most of the time when you do, it's right at the beginning of the match (Lethal Pursuer) and not much after. I run it a lot, and in my experience, these are the most common scenarios:

    1. Distortion does nothing (like half the time) and is essentially a dead perk slot
    2. Distortion triggers at the beginning of a match (Lethal Pursuer), and not again
    3. Distortion triggers at the beginning and you get continued value (killer likely running Lethal, BBQ, Floods of Rage, etc.)
    4. Killer running multiple easily triggered aura perks and tokens are quickly depleted, Distortion useless most of the match (this is a lot of Blights, Nurses, Huntresses
    5. Scratched Mirror or Vanity Mirror Myers (LOL)

In summary: you get very inconsistent value; it can be very helpful, totally useless, and mixed in between. So there is risk in running it.

  • No, these events always give you more than enough time to acquire everything they have to offer. And there is almost always something going on (XP event, bloodhunt, tome, etc., etc.), and you can't do nothing but play if you want to be a whole human being.

For a while I was committed to getting double iri 1 every month, but then I realized the BP reward isn't really significant, so I stopped that.

I do play too much DBD, but "guilt" or FOMO aren't what is driving that. It's that the game is so easy to play and then stop, and is a nice bite sized dose of dissociation.

10 days later and no official response. I give up.

What are you expecting? Them to say "So sorry, we'll get right on that!"?

There are a number of different loading mechanisms (i.e. loading into the game, loading to the store, and loading into a match) that all depend on different factors, even beyond all the different hardware considerations. It is what it is.

Loading times are annoying for sure, but if you're making a list of issues with DBD that BHVR should address and loading times even crack your top 10, I think you're deep in the minority, and I don't think it's near the top bf BHVR's list, either.

I can't even conceive of playing the game on a Switch, honestly. My advice would be to spend whatever disposable income you must have if you own the game on four platforms and upgrade your PC rather than trying play this game on those old/underpowered platforms.

I would love to see how the removal of flashlights affects kill rates

I wouldn't be surprised of they went down. Flashlights actually kinda suck, and players waste time trying to get saves that rarely happen.

  • It never ceases to amuse me when people talk about something that has been an eternal constant being a "new problem" or people doing it "all of a sudden".

When playing against decent survs, there are generally three reliable strategies: three genning, tunneling, or proxy camping. One can win without tunneling in most circumstances, and without three genning in almost all circumstances. Winning without at least some degree of proxy camping at some point is a tall order. Hoping to be free of any and all camping is wildly unrealistic. While just setting up shop at the hook is lame as hell, expecting the killer to immediately vacate the vicinity after hooking someone just because is just stupid.

I'd never advocate facecamping, but some form of hook defense is simply necessary to be consistently competitive against decent survs.

And of course it goes without saying that a great many survs love to cry about camping when they all rush to and/or flock around the hook. A lot of self-inflicted "camping". I don't suspect that will ever stop, either.

  • Boil Over being used a lot, especially among more casual/inexperienced players, is not new. People either use it in combination with other perks designed to be really annoying, or because they mistakenly think it's effective on its own.

It is a good way to get yourself slugged more often. It always amazes me how some people act as if they've been wronged because you drop them as soon as you realize that you can't get them to a hook. When run as part of a build/strat designed to make it nearly impossible to hook a surv, it's miserable. In those cases, since they openly don't care if I have fun, I make sure they don't either, and it's just misery for everyone.

But on its own, Boil Over is slightly annoying at most, but generally a non-issue.

But has been mentioned, it is extra annoying to console/controller killers.

  • I think that people are arguing about two good but fair perks STBFL and Distortion as if they are problematic actually speaks to how relatively balanced the meta perk landscape has become. MFT had been the only perk I'd see that felt like a problem recently, which is a far cry from a few years ago.

Of course like a full third of all perks are utterly unusable garbage, but there really aren't a top tier of absolutely busted OP perks like there was for my first couple of years in DBD.

It can be fixed (or at least partially fixed), but it never will be. It would be easy for BHVR to introduce balance handicaps based on number of survivors playing together in a lobby, MMR rating, etc., but they never will because SWF players who have long been spoiled by their unfair advantage will stop playing.

Being easy and easy for BHVR can be mutually exclusive things, lol.

In order to be fair, balance handicaps would have to be partially based on MMR (for every death squad there are probably 3 groups of absolute doorknobs just potato-ing it up, and four good solo players beats them every time), and BHVRs MMR barely works on its own.

And you are right, there are a fair number of players out there drunk on the illusion of being good that playing exclusively in SWF offers that would totally bail if that was taken from them.

But a statistically significant number? I'm not sure.

  • All SWFs do play from a position of advantage and there are instances where SWFs are so strong that it's not reasonable for killers to beat them unless they play perfectly, but they are the exception. Not really a big problem overall.

But it doesn't really matter either way because it can't be fixed. I'd like to see if a group is a SWF while still in lobby (just so I know what I'm dealing with), but that would lead to rampant dodging, so it's not really an option.

Disallowing comms is not an option. Disallowing SWF altogether would result in a huge cut to profits, as that's like half the surv base playing some sort of SWF configuration.

Love it, hate it, or anything in between, it's not going anywhere.

What else are perks supposed to do then? Do you want more regression perks? It is fairly obvious the devs are running out of perk ideas when they just slap a movemetspeed increase on perks despite not touching that for years, for good reasons, as well all saw with MFT.

Yeah, you can nerf the killer's aura reading options, but then some other part of their kit is going to need to be buffed to compensate.

  • The new Spirit chase music might be my favorite. I would say Legion, but I hear it most often when facing the Legion, which usually means I'm not having a good time. So that kind of ruins it.
