Someone needs to open the door for that sort of social context to exist--be it online or IRL.
Personally, a comment like "gg ez" is harmless enough to open that door.
People get offended by everything these days.
To me, "gg ez" is far more mild-mannered than some of the things you can do to players in-game.
For example, I think slugging for the 4k is MORE offensive than saying "gg ez." I really value my time, so it is insulting to have it wasted staring at my helpless body, lying on the ground for minutes at a time, because some other player can't fathom the idea of a survivor finding hatch.
At the end of the day, I can't please everyone.
Someone is going to think I'm a !#&% no matter what I do.
Someone needs to open the door for that sort of social context to exist--be it online or IRL.
Do you think it's appropriate to try to open that door with an insulting comment to someone you've never met before and whose mental state you cannot judge by body language? This seems like the kind of thing you'd do after a few matches with the same player when you've had a chance to try to ascertain their mental state.
The difference between what you're doing in chat and what trolls do in chat is that you hope the other person enjoys it while the troll hopes they don't. This is a distinction without a difference for players who don't enjoy it, and they will (rightly) think you are a jerk after such an interaction. If this doesn't bother you then it sounds like you aren't a very empathetic person -- or, at least, that you value "finding like-minded individuals" more than the others' feelings.
To me, "gg ez" is far more mild-mannered than some of the things you can do to players in-game.
"Worse stuff exists" is a poor justification.
Someone is going to think I'm a !#&% no matter what I do.
There is where we have some common ground. People can find any reason to be offended.
All I'm saying is be mindful of how your words affect others.
-
Agreed. I've seen "Feng" and "Yui" censored as well, and the banned word list seems to be different for different people, which is also very confusing -- some players can say almost any of the "bad" 4-letter words but can't say the names of characters or perks.

The people saying killer is "easier than ever" likely aren't talking about people still learning, rather the people who are experienced and know how to play Killer.
Learning and getting the experience to be good with Killer is still as hard as ever, don't let people diminish your feelings by going "lol its so easy now". This is like saying survivor was easy before even though inexperienced survivors get mopped up super easily by even medicore killers.
My honest advice at dealing with problem structures is either: Just ignore them whenever possible, I've won so many games on Dead Dawg and Garden of Joy by just ignoring the main building. Let them have the gen there.
Alternatively, brute force a pallet out of someone then leave, you'll eventually widdle down the resources and create a deadzone. Still sometimes not worth it though.
Dude this is so true. I 4k'd a game on Eyrie by only patrolling the main building gen and the two that spawn in the corners behind it. I played in maybe one third of the map the whole game.
Letting survivors complete the "island gens" (the ones out in the middle of nowhere, near strong structures, and with no other gens nearby) is a good strategy. It effectively shrinks the map in your favor. It can also give them undeserved confidence, which can make them overplay their hand later.

If I can speak candidly for a moment, I think your insistence on labeling (i.e. bully, pseudo-intellectualism) inhibits you from reaching a comprehensive understanding of foreign ideas.
You say that I am deserving of this maltreatment, but it is apparent that you still do not grasp the concepts which I’ve discussed henceforth.
Some people enjoy roughhousing as a form of mutual entertainment, but tackling a stranger after playing a game of chess with them […] would rightfully be classified as aberrant social behavior.
I agree!
But this is not analogous to what I’ve admitted, which is why I’ve asserted that I’ve been met with ignorance.
Tackling someone is physical assault.
Lets run with your scenario, so that I can better explain myself…
Picture this:
After the chess match, the winner says something snoody to the effect of “I really thought you were going to be a challenge.”
The loser smirks and replies, “please, I heard you could use the confidence boost!”
The winner laughs at the witty reply and leans in for a soft jab on the loser’s shoulder. “As if!”
The loser, having grown up with two rough and tumble older brothers sees the jab as a sign of affection and meets it with a hip check and a grin.
To a third party, the interaction appears rather aggressive, but both parties walk away appreciating the others’ sense of humor—likely to remember the interaction for a long time.
This is the exact same scenario I’ve been defending in gaming. There is an escalation process—it really is nuanced—and it requires both parties to make judgement calls about the other’s character.
Just as people who are sensitive to such comments need to take accountability when they refuse to remove themself from a situation, people with a brash sense of humor need to acknowledge when they’ve overstepped a boundary.
If you don’t enjoy engaging in this sort of banter, that is fine. But it is not your place to cast judgement on those who do.
I'm not judging you for enjoying engaging in banter.
I'm saying that when your opening remark to someone after beating them in a game is insulting outside of an understood social context where both parties enjoy such banter then it's going to be perceived as bullying, especially in a situation where body language is entirely absent. You are willing to effectively insult a random person in the hopes that they enjoy banter like that, without any regard for how this might make them feel.
And you don't see why this might make you disliked by your fellow forum members.
What happens in most cases when someone is being flamed in end-game chat and the person voices displeasure with the interaction? How often do you think that the antagonists are going to say "oh, sorry, I thought you might enjoy some banter, clearly I misjudged and overstepped." Do you really think this happens in even 1% of cases? No, the antagonists will take this to be a sign of weakness and double down, or they'll hit back with the classic "I'm just joking, chill out."
Now let's say that I accept your premise here, that you do not mean to aggravate the person you're talking to. How likely, in DBD end-game chat specifically when engaging with a person who finds this kind of banter from someone they don't even know to be over the line, do you think the they are to ask you politely to stop?
Your supposed de-escalation process doesn't work in this context. It might work in an IRL game where you can read immediately from the other person, before they say a word, that they don't like the banter, and sincerely apologize. Heck, you might even be able to tell from their body language how open they would be to such an interaction and simply not even try if you can tell they are already upset.
It does not work consistently in an online game where this dynamic doesn't exist, which is why you're going to be perceived as a jerk when you try engaging in banter with a person who doesn't like it. They've been around the DBD block and know what happens when they try to appeal to the humanity in the other person.
You can try to put the onus on the other person as much as you want. "Well, they shouldn't have engaged."
Or.... maybe you shouldn't antagonize strangers on the Internet hoping that they like it.

Your comment was dripping with sarcasm.
Whether it was to win the approval of your peers by taking a witty jab at me, or simply out of enjoyment for that small act of malice, you find yourself guilty of a behavior you’re so desperate to label me under.
Call me what you want. Since articulating my thoughts I’ve been met with nothing short of ignorance and name-calling.
I can speak only to my personal experiences on this matter, and your choice not to believe me does not make what I say any less true.
You should learn not to throw stones from glass houses.
It was to take a jab at you, because you are deserving of it.
Random players in a video game, unless they have done something particularly egregious, are not deserving of it. Therein lies the difference between us.
Perhaps the reason you are being met with name-calling is because your admitted behavior warrants it. You claim we are ignorant, as though we are incapable of understanding the subtleties or, as you put it, "nuance" of your behavior. We can see through this veil of pseudo-intellectualism. (Insert "Skinner out of touch" meme here.)
All you've said can be reduced to a single statement: you say mean things to strangers after playing a video game with them, in the hopes that they enjoy saying mean things as well and you can befriend them and say mean things to each other. The second half of this sentence is fine (I do not begrudge anyone mutual entertainment like this) but you're using it as the justification for the first half of this sentence, which is where the problem lies.
Some people enjoy roughhousing as a form of mutual entertainment, but tackling a stranger after playing a game of chess with them in the hopes you'll both enjoy it would rightfully be classified as aberrant social behavior. This is analogous (but of a different severity) to what you've admitted to doing.

Offering an unpopular opinion?
Tell me you don’t see the irony.
Calling out a bully isn't being a bully.
You've made it quite clear that you enjoy provoking negative reactions in others, under the guise of "finding like-minded people." If you are as reasonable as you claim yourself to be, you should easily be able to see how your behavior is harmful.

I promise you, the intent is not to harm.
Yes, there are people who say "gg ez" with malicious intent, because the act of putting someone else down is self-soothing.
But there are also people who say "gg ez" because the game left much to be desired. Like a person going back for second helpings, the act of taunting and jeering often elicits a stimulating response that satisfies those who felt the game was unsatisfactory.
For the latter group, offending people is collateral damage, not the objective itself. There is an acknowledgement that certain words and phrases (such as 'gg ez') are inherently harmless, but are capable of triggering reactions. The intent is to provoke like-minded individuals who get a kick out of this sort of banter, and have the conversation escalate from there. People who engage in this sort of behavior assume that those who can't tolerate it will ignore them or remove themself from the situation.
In this particular example, OP should immediately recognize that his opponents are not interested in engaging in meaningful conversation. Instead, OP chooses to entertain his opponents, in-turn signaling to them that their behavior is tolerable/welcomed.
If I was one of the survivors in this situation, and OP said "hey, no need to pour salt on the wound," my immediate response would be something to the effect of "you're right, i'm sorry. have a good day, gl next," or even extend the olive branch and try to learn a bit about them. Because, as I've tried to convey thus far, I'm not looking to put people down, I'm just looking to engage with other people that find this sort of behavior entertaining.
Whether or not the intent is to harm, I concede that the behavior is entirely self-serving.
It's honestly very impressive how many words it can take someone to say "I enjoy being a bully" without actually saying the words "I enjoy being a bully." Well done!

Im pretty sure they will be discqualified, even if the intent is to win the match by stalling enough that the opponent quits.
Yes, because if there's one sport DBD is like, it's tennis. Trying to elude a bloodthirsty serial killer is just like hitting a ball back and forth, and both games should have the same rules.
???????
A dev got properly lambasted for comparing DBD to hockey. Don't make the same mistake. It's nonsense.

I agree that a perk shouldn't be used to fix a game defect, but Whispers is legit one of the most valuable killer perks in the game anyway. Might as well run it, and then this problem goes away for you.

It's an outdated mechanic that makes the sudden camping epidemic more annoying and unfair to deal with. It needs to go.
I will agree that the killer-sided-RNG of basement should be removed, but only at the same time as the survivor-sided-RNG of strong, chainable tiles spawning adjacently is removed. Both reward the player for no other reason than a lucky roll of the dice.
Some RNG is good but it needs to have better constraints.

As a reminder, the cosmetic is not "free". It is part of a package that is paid for. The actual value may only be a penny, but it still a value. That said, this wouldn't make it to actual trial due to the fact that they have themselves covered with the vagueness of the wording.
It's a fairly meaningless semantic difference, to be honest. It's not "free" in that you have to pay for Prime to get the offer, but it is "free" in the sense that if Prime had exactly the same offers this month except this one skin, they wouldn't be in material breach of any contract as there's absolutely no written guarantee how many offers you get each month.
Basically, the offers are not technically fungible, but they effectively are (in this context, anyway).

If they made a dbd 2 wouldn’t that mean they would have to reacquire all the licenses again?
Possibly, if they want to reuse the same licensed killers.
It also means they get to sell those killers a second time to people who've already bought them in DBD 1, so it's still likely to be a financial win.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/341802/the-artist-is-bad-killer-design
It's not just the artist, this is precisely why most killers are bad. Shift + W is so strong that without vaulting, pallets, windows, anything it will take the killer 57 seconds to down the survivor with both hits, pick them up, walk to a hook, and hook them.
Now look at the killers everyone agrees are really strong:
- Nurse
- Spirit
- Blight
Notice the trend? Their powers counter shift + w.
Depending on the map, Huntress would qualify as well. Unless there is cover, shift+W isn't doing anything against a hatchet.

Agreed. Depipping made sense when rank was used for matchmaking; it was the only way to rank down. Now there is no reason to depip except to increase the number of matches required to reach the highest grade in a month, and they could do that just by increasing the number of pips required for each grade.
-
Unloseable games have way more to do with bad matchmaking than with which character/build you bring in.
I've died to every killer and escaped against every killer.
I've 4k'd as every killer and 0k'd as every killer.

I'm not sure what kind of damages you could even sue for, because nowhere have they specified:
- How many items you receive per month, or
- The average value of the items you receive in a month, or
- That the items offered to you must fall into one of those advertised categories.
Any judge would dismiss such a lawsuit on its face as there's no way you could reasonably claim damages when offered a free in-game cosmetic that you already own.
In fact, the title of this post could be viewed as defamatory as it accuses Amazon/BHVR of a crime. OP, even if you are memeing here, what you're doing is legally risky.

Impossible to make this call without seeing her POV. I've been accused of hacking when I'm literally just paying attention. I've seen survivors trying to hide behind stuff not realizing their medkit or whole arm is visible to me.
Then there's perks like Floods of Rage, too.

In my experience, the most toxic clicky-clicky survivors tend to have played enough to know how to loop, but can't execute.

I'm not trying to sound trolly, or negative in any way, I love this game, I play killer alot, but I started with survivor and I know theres nothing more horribly annoying than a killer that wipes the whole group in the shortest amount of time, as a killer who started off as a survivor, I try hard not to be that killer so I'll hook everyone once, then help everyone with gens, or I'll kill 2 and help the last 2 who outran me escape, but that's not why I'm typing this. The reason I am commenting now is this...........
"As we all know, end game collapse is a......."
I am calling straight up bullshit on this. As amazing as this game (and repetitive) it is, I still have alot of love and great care for it, but you guys tutorial needs to change.........ALOT. Ima tell you guys right now, if WE ALL KNEW, then I wouldn't have to google the answers to what status effects are, I see that you guys have finally began to add it to the add-ons which is an amazing step in the right direction, but tutorial is still horrendous and theres nothing pointing out that status effects can be read there. Hey! I know, how about instead of changing the game all around with the things you change to appease the whinning children who have no real skill at the game because they keep disconnecting, that you actually change something in your game that needs to be given some hard tough love because its just horrible?
Again, I'm not trying to troll here, and I hope the devs take all of this with a grain of salt, and yes I agree I may still have some salty feelings about that on me own, because no one should be thrown blind, deaf, and dumb about the games mechanics, so I apologize if any of this comes off to harsh or in a negative light. ALSO one more thing guys. The 2 min ban being the most minimal to disconnects wouldn't disway a crack her at a crack house, can we change that please? 1 hour would make people less likely to disconnect because they think they are to good to recieve their first hook after a 15 min loop (I pulled 15 mins out of thin air, its a really big stretch but its making my point XD) work smart guys not hard, use common sense please XD
Thank you all for reading and listening to my rant, you are all amazing and have a great day ♥

But it sounds more like they are just an ignorant narcissist. (Not that there's a shortage of those around these parts, to be fair.)

They very well could play in comp leagues... you just have to put a team together around you and anyone can be a comp player!
But if they honestly think that double recharge "makes no difference" then they are either trolling you or don't understand the killer they supposedly main.

I actually can't really play Nurse (haven't tried with add-ons yet) but they insist that Double Recharge makes no difference.
Can anyone confirm that?
Also she said that the Nea shouldn't have been playing Survivor if they got tunneled by a Nurse at 3 gens. It was 5 gens left when the Nea died but it's whatever.
I'm a Nurse main with over 1k hours in the game (probably over 3/4 of that on Nurse) and they are full of crap.
Double recharge feels so good to play. Waiting for blinks to recharge sucks more than waiting for your power on another killer, because you literally cannot catch survivors at base movement speed (in the absence of really dumb survivor plays, anyway). Since she is completely reliant on her power to land hits, waiting for it to recharge is painful, and shortening the recharge duration so much makes her way more engaging and fun.
But it's horribly oppressive to the survivors and probably needs to be nerfed. 😢
-
I don't have a problem with these changes but they also aren't going to significantly fix solo q. You can't information-buff bad survivors into good survivors.
-
Basekit unbreakable would be a horrible change and punishes the killer for punishing survivors being close together. If the killer can chain 3 downs one after the other, this shouldn't allow the first two people a free pass to get themselves up.
-
All they need to do is change it so that it can only be activated on each survivor once per hook state. An extra 60 seconds of hook time per survivor is plenty; if you need more than that, it's time to trade hooks.
-
At this point I wish they'd just bring back rank-based matchmaking. It wasn't fantastic, but it made more fun matchups than whatever this mess is.

Technically you can use it, but it doesn't get you anything and locks you in animation. Endurance does not prevent a down when you are in deep wounds; DH still gives you Endurance if you are in deep wounds but it won't actually tank a hit.

I think the action icons alone would make a big difference. The biggest negative (and perhaps defining) aspect of solo is lack of information (relative to SWF). So much time is lost due to teammates doing redundant things, or no one doing what is needed because no one knows what anyone else is doing.
Knowing what your team is bringing and basekit kindred would really round it out.
I'm not so sure.
In my solo q games the defining aspect is two players having no idea what they are doing. No info buffs are going to fix the Claudette self-healing in the corner or the Dwight scared to touch a gen.
That's why I said "significantly better experience." I think it might be marginally better, but solo q is always going to be roughly 3 killers vs 2 survivors in the average game.
-
Most of these changes would be fine, but I wouldn't bet on them actually making solo q a significantly better experience.

its a whole another playstyle now. so you are trying to adapt to it, playing new dh, but ned dh is NOT working as intended. what is so hard about that? when you decide to change a meta perk and you are not able to make it work, then you shouldnt wonder ppl being frustrated...
this is a whole new playstyle this game is favoring
Yes, like I said, the devs favor the playstyle where survivors actually have to be efficient with their time. If survivors can screw around the whole game trying to annoy the killer for YouTube content and still win then wins are free for a group that's actually trying to escape, meaning the game is imbalanced in favor of survivors.
-
@Rastabooze said:

I use dh since 1 week constantly. I get exhausted on the ground in 4 outa 5 cases. maybe I have a bad connection, dunno man. But THIS is frustrating af. You try to adapt, but the only thing you got is depression.
when you DS a killer its even worse. Nurse gets you within 4sec and tunnels you to death... unplayable...
So find a perk that works better for you. DH was incredibly busted and had no business lasting since version 2.0.0 basically untouched (sans the addition of hit validation, which was a buff).
There's plenty of viable perk combinations, and it is possible to use new DH successfully. All I'm getting from your posts in this thread is "I'm bad at the game now that my crutch perk isn't free anymore and I refuse to adapt, so I'm going to complain about it instead."
Survivors cannot afford to be inefficient anymore, which is how it always should have been. If you're complaining that you should be able to goof around the whole match and still win... I don't even know how to argue against that kind of twisted logic.
-
Endurance is not invulnerability. Grabs are one way killers can play around it.
Other such effects can be countered as well -- for example, DS can be countered by mori.
-
I'd have made the other change -- don't explode but restore the notification. The interaction with Merciless Storm was annoying but could've been addressed a different way, and giving the killer the notification provided a reason to leave the hook. As a survivor would you rather have:
- 90 merciless storm skill checks on the rare occasion there's a PR hook while it's active?
- Or more camping?
The first is annoying, the second is actually bad for game health.
-
@CakeDuty said:
I don't think they solved the problem with Thana. It wasn't really that big of an issue on most killers. It was an issue on Legion and Plague (they even mentioned it in their dev post), but now the perk is only reliable on them, since they are the only ones that can reliably keep all survivors injured.
So they nerfed the perk for other killers without solving why people wanted it changed in the first place. So I'm not fully sure what the devs thought process were on this change.
I'm not so sure. You only have to heal one survivor to remove the vast majority of its impact.
One cleanse on Plague is good enough, and that survivor will be harder to find than the others since they won't be making noise. Good teams will have one player cleanse and keep away from the gens others are working on to avoid spreading sickness to them again.
Legion is a bit trickier since survivors aren't guaranteed to be able to heal themselves like they can with plague, but medkits, CoH, and self care are still pretty common.
IMO they did weaken thana enough for it to not be as oppressive on these two killers. Unfortunately, they also made it completely unviable on all other killers, so now you're only going to see it consistently on Plague and Legion.

MoM is a nerf. Sure it takes only 2 protection hits now, but you can't work on a gen, rescue a survivor, heal a survivor, etc. It also can't combo with other endurance effects either. On top of that, the killer now sees your aura when you have MoM endurance meaning they know to ignore you since you can't do anything useful while your aura is being revealed.
For the 3 players who used it:
But seriously, I think in the over 1k hours I've played I've seen MoM on a survivor build a maximum of 5 times and I don't recall it ever giving them any value. I haven't seen it at all since 6.1.0. I'm kind of surprised they're even tweaking it... there can't be that many people using it.

Also do an experiment with only 3 slots. That could be just as interesting.
