I do enjoy the FNAF killer, and i dont agree with your tier list. I didnt read that wall of text you posted, so im sorry if i missed something.

no it’s fine, I have trouble reading as well

  • even now it’s still not that strong if you run a perk like windows. But my hearing sucks so even I still have problems with nightfall 😂

  • @squbax said:

I am a massive fnaf fan, and also been playing dbd since 2016, as such I will say I LOVE springtrap, because for the biggest license ever they actually did something amazing and made his gameplay good.

Like sadako, ghostface and so on are faithfull to the source material yes but their gameplay is just bad, they are a joke and the skill ceiling is boring with no flashy plays to be done.

Bhvr did an amazing model and pair that up with a power that has consistency (the doors) and also gave him a tool for cool plays and for players to invest 100s of hours in learning and mastering.

I am genuinly so happy he is not an m1 pushover but actually a killer that you have to master, it makes playing him and learning axe throws so fun.

and I’m happy you like him, he just isn’t for me. Probably because I play on console, but who’s really to say.

  • @tes said:

I feel BHVR can’t allow really original mechanic on killers anymore, until they add vertical gameplay and completely rework stealth for killers. We just stuck here with same recycled powers.

yeah I’m being honest the most original power that we’ve had recently is either something like Kaneki or singularity.

  • @miniboss said:

My opinion is the doors should have been more interactable and act like the doors in the FNAF series. In FNAF, they're always open unless you waste power closing them. It would have been more faithful if that's how they worked in DBD. Always open, available for Springtrap to use. Survivors can then choose to go up and interact with the door, either in the same style as Pinhead's box or Skull Merchant's drones, which alerts Springtrap with killer instinct. If the survivor is successful, the door closes for x amount of time until it's power is fully drained and cannot be closed for the remainder of the trial or after some sort of cooldown period where the power builds back up or something. Alternatively, if Springtrap isn't doing anything or chooses to drop chase or whatever when alerted by killer instinct, he could travel through to the door being interacted and jumpscare grab the survivor if he's quick enough.

yeah I’m honestly surprised that the doors aren’t used to delay him in the slightest. An idea I thought of is for the doors to act like the locks for dredge. Pretty much one spring trap is traveling through a security door instead of the panel flickering Two white dots being his eyes will approach with footsteps that grow louder closer he gets. If the door is closed in time good for them but the door loses power. if they don’t, you can guess what happens.

  • @BbQz said:

Idk I feel like the really missed an opportunity with the cameras and the room like the room should be able to be used by the survivor just one at a time to view camera give the survivor in the room a way to signal to other survivors who are near the doors which are near the generators that the Killers nearby. Maybe it's a simple as seeing spring trap on the camera gives him a terror radius but not having a spotter leaves him undetectable the whole game. While you are in the room and power a battery with skill checks that powers locks to the doors but they rapidly drain if spring trap comes to the door and trys to get in.. maybe if you see him coming it gives you just enough time to escape

I'm on my phone right now so hopefully my explanation is understandable

I do agree with survivors being able to use the security office It feels like a wasted opportunity. I just don’t agree with springtrap having no terror radius the entire game.

I dunno man, I’m no balance expert. If it’s meant to be like the FNAF games then the counterplay would basically involve warding ST off and essentially preventing him from downing / killing a survivor. I think if the game forced the obsession to only be in the security room trying to find him on the camera to expose him but then he can jump scare them in the room unless they do a thing to block the door (like disabling SM drones but more complex) and then another survivor becoming the obsession once hooked would feel thematic but idk if that’s balanced

no worries, it’s always nice to try

it seems like the lights out which I loved but was deeply unpopular with survivors. We can’t even get the Dredge Nightfall solid black like when it first released on PTB. I don’t think any mode or ability that puts the survivors in total darkness with 0 counterplay is gonna work.

yeah that was kind of the same thing I was thinking, any ideas on how to balance it?

OK just got back from reading it and I’m not gonna lie. I love the blackout mode that you suggested because it really adds to that feeling of Fnaf one. It would also be pretty cool if during that mode springtrap instead of a terror radius gains a lullaby kinda like sadako when when she is demanifested

yeah their dedication to the franchise is always impressed me

    I'd say Chucky is perfect

He doesn't really have any special power in the movies other than possessing people and being a doll. Just the fact BHVR found a way to make him work at all still impresses me to this day

Yeah, considering how little Chucky has in terms of an actual power in his movies they made it work really damn well

  • I’m not too familiar with Silent Hill since I’ve only played the remake of the second game, so I’ll take your word for it, but there is actually one killer on this list who I was considering putting in the depths and that is Springtrap

  • @OnryosTapeRentals said:

Very much agree with Onryō’s placement. Aesthetically, they truly did an incredible job adapting her over from the movie. Thematically, the chapter was just on point. The sounds, visuals, animations — perfect.

In terms of power, they did an admirable job too. Adapting a 7-day curse to a video game that lasts only ~10 minutes per match and whose gameplay is more slasher-focused (which Ring is not) was no easy feat. The balance has been off over the years (too weak then too strong then too weak) but the core concepts are all great.

yeah I know I was really surprised with how well they did with a killer that doesn’t even make contact with anyone and only appeared in the ending of one movie

  • @Marc_go_solo said:

It's a good list, and it may just be my interpretation of "faithful", but I'd pull the Executioner further down.

My thinking is its power was never in the Silent Hill games, nor its Mori. This Executioner I don't think was James' tormenter neither, but one of perhaps several Executioners broughout about by another's guilt. James' Executioner ceased to be once it fulfilled its purpose. It's also too fast.

However, if you mean its look, then it's spot on.

yeah I’m not even gonna lie. It’s always me how pyramid head came with Cheryl Mason, instead of James.

I'd disagree with Nemesis, he should probably be up in "So Close" just for the few concessions made to make him fit in this game.

He's otherwise extremely faithful to the video game he was adapted from. The absence of certain things doesn't mean the things we do have aren't faithful.

I also think Bubba's pretty damn close, I'm actually curious why you put him so low. Is there something you'd expect him to be doing that he isn't?

and as for leather face that’s definitely my fault. I should’ve definitely put him higher.

I've only ever seen the first season of Tokyo Ghoul several years ago, but from what I remember Kaneki never did hunt innocent people down. He was just trying to make his way in the world. How is his portrayal in Dead by Daylight accurate, unless he changes completely in later seasons? Not calling out the tier, legitimately curious.

pretty much what behavior did is that for DBD they rewrote his lore to pretty much be a what if he was evil and by that I mean, it’s literally just a recap of the entirety of season one just with the entity, slapped at the end to convince him to be no no good person pretty much

Constantine would be great, but you'd have to be careful what version. Modern DC Constantine is probably a bit too high-powered, but the older Vertigo Constantine would be just the right level of savvy and prepared to have an edge without being too strong.
He'd probably have an Invocation, which is unfortunate for strength but great for theming, lol.

Best bet is gonna be horror comics over the usual cape fare I feel - hell, TWD started as a comic - but some stuff from more mainstream areas could work. I've often considered Scarecrow an interesting pick for a killer, I feel he'd fit well enough.
Plus, it'd never happen, but man, Harper Row as a survivor would be so cool.

I partially agree because on one hand yes Constantine is very powerful, but on the other hand, the mark of nullification being introduced in the D&D chapter probably makes it possible to have the current version. but in all honesty, I can go with either one.

literally 2 gens will pop in the first chase instead of the usual one

game is overtuned yet i still have surivors insta rage cuz im playing a certain killer which just kills my mood to play this game even more, e

sound is also beyond buggy tbh, survivors just randomly go quiet i thought i was losing my mind until i realized i also lose bots

even youtubers don't wanna touch this mess right now tbh

just take a break for now and i hope to see your around in the fog again <3

  • My poor hearing is definitely my fault if that’s what you’re referring to.

  • @cogsturning said:

I'm currently playing an even mixture of both. If the official stats are too trusted, I'm at 45% escape and 67% kill for the last 30 days, so doing okay at both. I think killer is more frustrating and I enjoy it less, yeah, and survivor is more relaxed, but I don't think that makes it easier. I go in expecting death. That's what makes it chiller. As killer, the match revolves around you and I feel like I have to perform. Miss a beat and the game is lost. But as survivor someone can do nothing for a whole minute and it doesn't necessarily destroy the match.

I have a similar experience in killer matches. I don't know how I get into one brief chase and 3 gens are done. In soloq, I work on a gen while watching the HUD and my teammates aren't doing a single thing. Where is all that efficiency I see on the killer side? I have to assume I'm going against parties who actually know how to play, whereas on solo I'm getting lord knows who. And yeah, then there's the opposite, where the match is an immediate disaster for survivors I face and it's boring. The midrange killer matches are getting rarer.

Honestly, they’re like a few possible answers on why three generators are getting done in one Chase like I feel like there are a few possible answers

    1. since Survivor spawn logic changed people are more inclined to run the perk prove thy self
    2. Survivors are splitting is just a much more common strategy now
    3. the power of sheer will

But that’s just what I think

I’m sorry behavior but this makes me very sad as a skull merchant main. All these chapters all this new content and poor skull merchant is still in her current state :( at this point forget the new rework I’ll be happy if she’s just reverted back to her original design with a few changes/upgrades/quality of life. Half of my session begin with killer match, after which I ask myself "And why should I play this?", then back to getting fun on survivors. If you will find good swf, I don't think you will remember about killer role at all.

because devs band aided killers' intended optimal play in anti-perk/mechanic meta into killer having to bring particular perks.

if you, a survivor, dont bring perks that punish killer for tunnelling/slugging/etc you still have a chance to have a good game if the killer doesnt do any of these things because they play around a threat of these perks / have enough skill difference to not care about playing like that.

if you, a killer, dont bring perks that reward you for not doing any of these things, then you have to go out of your way to play in a particular way while still dealing with a potential threat of the anti perks.

you surely can win with whatever if you get against people you'd curbstomp on sheer massive skill&experience difference, but this is a really shallow victory imo

That and you can kinda just run whatever you want as a survivor and still have a good chance at winning whilst listening to music… no seriously I’ve just been running the combo of diversion and deception while listening to King gizzard and the lizard wizard and I’m still winning 😂

sorry to hear you’re struggling. What do you think is causing it? The new item? For me, killer-wise, not much changed. Um.. I’m kinda glad survivors got some new toys — means less of those bodyblock-mid-chase into Red Syringe BS and less background player into flashy sabo spam. Makes chases cleaner and more manageable.

but yip, those rounds are just insane and super fast. Like always

it’s for the most part just been a combination of things that have been deterring me from the role more and more recently. Part of it being that my two favorite killers to play being Skull Merchant and Springtrap we’ll just say aren’t really the strongest killers in the game and have been just ignored recently, the fog vile making my hearing problems worse, whenever you try to run a unique build you just end up losing because you’re not running pain res and pop or something, if you’re in Chase for 30 seconds 3 gens get popped at once, the weakest killers will get the harshest nerf for literally zero reason leaving others completely ignored, conviction completely removing slugging from the game, survivors complaining for the silliest of reasons, Skull Merchant getting gutted and her rework getting delayed, Springtrap getting almost nothing since he released, they still haven’t even bothered fixing the Houndmaster and Knight bugs, and worst of all Trickster is still in this game!!!

I literally get less and less of a reason to play killer because the devs are giving me less of a reason to play the killer with almost every update.

  • @BrightWolf said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3973416#Comment_3973416

Nah, 110% Trickster was torture on the larger maps because you couldn't pressure gens adequately against survivors who knew what they were doing. Plus it just make him a massive struggle against extremely strong loops, even if you had his Trick Knives add-on.

yeah I’m not even gonna lie. I may hate trickster, but 110% movement speed made trying to hit 6 Knives way harder than it to be

  • @Brokenbones said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3973089#Comment_3973089

This might be personal preference but Trickster felt better at 110% but with less knives to injure a survivor.

He got screwed a lot more at strong tiles sure, but other than that his power was crazy lethal if you could land your hits.

  • @thrawn3054 said:

It's not necessarily a matter of priorities. They may have found it easier to make changes to Trickster they were happy with. While Skull Merchant is a harder nut to crack. I would assume they're trying to make her stronger and more appealing while not losing the elements her devoted fanbase like about her. Which is mo easy task.

I definitely understand that but it still sucks like I don’t even have fun playing as her anymore and the fact that this is the version I have to deal with another year hurts even more

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/452139/if-skull-merchant-was-so-problematic-why-have-no-attempts-been-made-to-balance-her

Problem with SM rework was how passive, boring and uninteractive she was. Whole game against Merchant was:

Go into loop, she deploys drone. If you get scanned she get's haste and keep bloodlusting untill you get injured by drone, hit or leave loop. Once you leave loop, if you made it to other one whole scenario repeated if not, you get hit. It was same like old instadrop guard Knight.

    History:

    1. Chess Merchant
    2. Clown Merchant
    3. Sad Merchant

I already mentioned the problem with the stacking haste, with the fact that it was a remnant from her old version and shouldn’t have made it into the rework to begin with

  • @GeneralV said:

Yes, it is a terrible situation and I'm really glad this topic is getting a lot of attention in the last few days.

I strongly support a return to Skull Merchant 2.0 because I believe it was a flawless kit. The only reason people disconnected against her was because of the problematic release, it had nothing to do with her power. As long as people stayed in the game:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/3DTTAUUZKE6Z/image.png

The match had absolutely zero problems.

She should have stayed that way. The nerf was unnecessary, and the rework is even more so.

Because the design previews, the two we had so far, were so terrible that it is hard to find words to describe it. They don't just look extremely unfun to play as and against, but also they completely erase her identity, which is unacceptable. Skull Merchant shouldn't become another "dashslop" killer, she shouldn't get a ranged M2, she shouldn't get a projectile attack.

The rework goes against the very reasons why people play SM in the first place. If they wanted a projectile killer, or dash, or ranged M2, they wouldn't have picked Skull Merchant in the first place.

I would prefer if she was reverted to 2.0 and adjusted from there, if needed. Best of both worlds, really: SM gets to be who she is, and returns to a state that was never problematic in the first place.

And the funniest part is that I would’ve been fine with the rework if it kept any of her identity intact, but it just doesn’t

  • oh and in case this wasn’t bad enough, they said this rework was going to come out in 2025 and they moved it to 2026 after trickster’s rework, yeah there really is no hope for my favorite killer.

  • ######### it,

    Least fun playing as: Springtrap

    Least fun playing against: Legion/Trickster

Sometimes you have to commit chase. If it's good looper then drop the chase but if you think you can win it in reasonable time commit. Practise mindgames. Dms and pain res should help even if you chase bit too long. You could try lethal pursuer if you're taking too long at the beginning to find survivors. But you might be just unlucky too getting strong teams.

thanks for the advice, but I think I’m just gonna stick to playing survivor for now.

  • @Deathstroke said:

What killer you play? I would need to see gameplay to be any help. Do you use strats like tunneling/camping?

I played springtrap and skull merchant. On Springtrap my regular build consists of DMS, Pain res, bamboozle, and mind breaker. For skull merchant its corrupt, surge, blood favor, and bamboozle. I only tunnel if there is 2 to 1 gen remaining. I try to minimize my Chase 20 seconds at the most. And I only slug if I seen an opportunity to like if someone is nearby or it’s the endgame. Unfortunately I can’t show gameplay because I play on ps5 and do not have a capture card.

Sadly, BHVR gives every killer some sort of teleport or movement speed which by itself gives insane inbalance between new and old killers. Tell me why Springtrap has really strong antiloop, cross map teleport without any restrictions, pretty busted add ons and then we have killers like Trapper, Skull Merchant, Pig or Myers? Even Pyramid Head sucks at this point, his antiloop is not bad, but eh has no map mobility no map pressure, absolutely nothing. How you can compete between killers when one has to spend 40s running cross map, while other can be there within 3s? I just don't get it.

behavior killer design I guess lol

  • I still don’t understand why they are turning her into a mix between a trap and a range killer, isn’t the whole point that she wants to make her kills close and personal? turning her into a ranged killer doesn’t really emphasize that.

  • @Elan said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/451998/qol-improvements-i-would-like-for-springtrap

Springtrap is already very good killer and you want to buff 85 % of his kit? Dude stop. Let balanced killer be as they are, we need bad killers to be better.

yeah I regretted a lot of these changes. really the only changes that I would actually want are for the axe hit box to lineup more with huntress’s, the increased grab range, and a Nerf to his undetectable because tell me how this MF gets 20 seconds of more undetectable for traveling through a security door that’s pre-placed right in front of a generator, but Demogorgon has to manually place his portals and only gets five seconds?

  • I used to genuinely hard main Skully but after she got gutted I had literally zero reason to play her again and still don’t. maybe her rework will change that either way I just need something to save this killer
